my #6 Track of the Year for 2023 is...

"Don't Play Games (Rubayne Remix)" by Martin Jensen, Faulhaber, and CMC$ f/ Selah!

i don't know if you caught this yet, but the reaction i get when i play tracks at gigs is a bit of a driver in this list.

last year, "Not Bees" by Space Laces saw its stock rise from "somewhere in the high teens" to "a podium finish" after it got an amazing reaction live. on the same token, the middling reaction to "Clone" by Celldweller & Teddy Killerz kept it out of the candidate's list. that same fate befell two tracks this year: note the absence of BARONG FAMILY on the list this year, after "Bring It" by Haus of Panda -- much beloved by me -- was reacted to much like a performance of Ross Geller on a Casio Keyboard on two separate occasions.

on the other hand, this track at matsuricon 2023 recieved a far more warm reception, to put it lightly. a red hot speed house track with an immediately familiar melody and a relatable theme. look, sometimes, you just gotta get back to basics to win the crowd over. and with speed house in an AMAZING spot right now, it's hard to leave it off the list completely. this one is worth a spot on your playlist, too.
