Sparks are set to fly when Batman and Superman debate Supergirl's fate in upcoming DC Universe Movie Legion of Super-Heroes.

CBR has an exclusive clip from the full-length animated feature that spotlights a tense conversation between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel regarding the latter's cousin. In the clip, Batman (Jensen Ackles) describes Supergirl (Meg Donnelly) as "a problem" and warns that her out-of-control powers and reckless attitude are shaping her into a potential menace. Superman (Darren Criss) defends Supergirl, noting her relative inexperience and taking exception to Batman's veiled threat. The clip ends Supergirl flying away upset, having overheard the latter half of the pair's conversation.

Have you ever done an analysis of which fandoms are most dominated by a single ship?

I hadn't done so before. I just took a quick pass at doing so, but only among the biggest fandoms on AO3 as of Jan 2024 (ones with over 10K public works at that time). I sorted them by the size of their biggest ship relative to the size of the fandom. This gives us a bunch of very big fandoms with a high % of works tagged with a particular ship:

The raw data used to make this graph, including the corresponding biggest ships, is available in a spreadsheet here, or at the end of this post.

A few notes:

This is based on January 2024 data. Some things may have changed!

Not all these works are necessarily about these ships. Especially in the cases where the ships are canon, they may often be tagged as background ships.

There are undoubtedly many smaller AO3 fandoms that have higher percentages devoted to the top ship.

I removed some highly overlapping fandoms (e.g., Good Omens book fandom).

This is AO3 data only, and (as always!) AO3 does not represent fandom overall. In particular, ship popularity tends to vary A LOT by archive/platform. Anti bi-Dean stans will pull out an ancient con video that’s already been debunked about a thousand times, including by the fan who asked the question, to claim Jensen hates bi Dean, when it’s clear Jensen didn’t even hear the question from a bi fan who said she related to Dean’s journey because the crowd was being so loud and so rude the second they heard the word “bi” everything devolved into chaos and the bodyguard had to escort the fan out while Jensen continued to be utterly confused about what had just happened and why the audience was yelling.

Also, do hellers not realize that if "market research" actually happened, and destiel didn’t, that means most people actually didn’t want to see it on screen. This is not winning, no matter what way you look at it.

That's a lot of words to say nothing. It was not a "Destiel Market Research", it was a heller trying to influence the direction of the focus group. The "crypt scene"? Was she talking about "Goodbye Strangers"? That was 2013. She said the market research took place in December 2016, during season 12 when Misha's contract was going to expire after the season wrap up and he took a demotion in season 13 when Alexander Calvert was hired as a regular.

You're correct, the OP was promoting hard the biDean/Destiel fanfiction and none of it took. If anything, it would further convince WB not to renew Misha's regular status and demote him to guest/recurring status while focusing on launching Kathryn Newton's Wayward Sisters spinoff in season 13.

CW knew a Castiel-led spinoff would not work and the real Market Research proved that. During the 2013 TCA event, when asked about making a spinoff centered on Castiel, Pedowitz turned down the idea and indirectly said that Cas was not a rich enough character, unlike the Vampire Diaries characters that could carry spinoffs. Reminder, the "crypt scene" in season 8 took place in 2013 and Marketing Enterprise stopped surveying Misha's popularity status after 2013 because it was too far below the threshold. Pedowitz and WB knew the results from Marketing Enterprise and why they were okay with decreasing scenes between Dean and Cas by 50% every season from 9 to 12 via Jensen's request.
