Goalie Goals: a brief history
Hey y'all. Resident goalie lover coming at you with something that I have been obsessed with since I got into hockey: goalie goals!
There are two kinds of goalie goals: a goal that was awarded to the goalie because they were the last to touch the puck before the opposing team got an own-goal, and an actual SOG.
In total, there have been 18 goalie goals across NHL history, scored by 15 different goalies. 11 of those goals have been SOG, while 7 have been own-goals.
The first goalie to be credited with a goal is Billy Smith of the Islanders, during the 79-80 season. It was an own-goal, with a player on the opposing team (Rockies) accidentally shooting into their own net. As of right now, this is the only goalie goal where the goalies' team still lost the game (the Islanders lost, 4-7)
The next two goals would be scored by Ron Hextall of the Flyers. The first (1) would be in the 87-88 season, against the Bruins. The second (2) would be in the 1989 playoffs (first playoff goalie goal!), against the Capitals. Both goals would be actual SOG's, making Hextall the first goalie to score with an actual SOG.
The fourth goal (SOG) would be scored by Chris Osgood of the Red Wings, during the 95-96 season, against the Whalers.
The fifth goal (SOG) would be scored by Martin Brodeur (1) of the Devils during the 1997 playoffs (second playoff goalie goal), against the Canadiens.
The sixth goal (own goal) would be scored by Damian Rhodes of the Senators, during the 98-99 season, against the Devils. This is the first goalie goal to help with a shutout for the scoring goalie.
The seventh goal (own goal) would be scored by Martin Brodeur (2) of the Devils, during the 99-00 season, against the Flyers. This is the first, and so far, only goal to be considered the GWG.
The eighth goal (SOG) would be scored by Jose Theodore of the Canadiens, during the 00-01 season, against the Islanders. Second goalie goal to help with a shutout.
The ninth goal (SOG) would be scored by Evgeni Nabokov of the Sharks, during the 01-02 season, against the Canucks.
The tenth goal (own goal) would be scored by Mika Noronen of the Sabres, during the 03-04 season, against the Maple Leafs.
The eleventh goal (own goal) would be scored by Chris Mason of the Predators, during the 05-06 season, against the Coyotes.
The twelfth goal (own goal) would be scored by Cam Ward of the Hurricanes, during the 11-12 season, against the Devils.
The thirteenth goal (own goal) would be scored by Martin Brodeur (3) of the Devils, during the 12-13 season, against the Hurricanes.
The fourteenth goal (SOG) would be scored by Mike Smith of the Coyotes, during the 13-14 season, against the Red Wings. This one holds the record of being the closest to the end of the game, being scored with less than a second left on the clock.
The fifteenth goal (SOG) would be scored by Pekka Rinne of the Predators, during the 19-20 season, against the Blackhawks.
The sixteenth goal (SOG) wouild be scored by Linus Ullmark of the Bruins, during the 22-23 season, against the Canucks.
The seventeenth goal (SOG) would be scored by Tristan Jarry of the Penguins, during the 23-24 season, against the Lightning.
The eighteenth goal (SOG) would be scored by Filip Gustavsson of the Wild, during the 24-25 season, against the Blues.
Some fun facts!!:
There hasn't been a goalie goal scored at home since Mike Smith, over 10 years ago
7 goals have been scored at home. 11 have been scored away.
Only one team has had more than one goalie goal scorer: the Predators, with Mason and Rinne
Only two goalies have scored during the playoffs: Hextall and Brodeur
Only one goal was scored with a backhand: Theodore's
Only three goalies that have scored are currently playing: Ullmark, Jarry, and Gustavsson
Two teams are tied with most goalie goals against (2): Devils and Canucks
it's been 45 years since the first goalie goal was scored

And I finally got my thumb out of my ass and put up the political science books I had stored away from university. This is not the complete curriculum I read, but the majority of it. And I figure, hey, why not share what I got?
International Relations - Jakob Gustavsson & Jonas Tallberg The Liberation of Man - Karl Marx Politics as organization - Rothstein A New Handbook of Political Science - Gooding & Klingemann Modern civic theories - Per MÄnsson Dictatorship: About the political systems of oppression - Lauri Karvonen Of Paradise and Power - Robert Kagan New and Old Wars - Mary Kaldor Parties and organizations - Mats BÀck & Tommy Möller The Swedish politics - BÀck & Larsson Reports and essays - Jarl Backman Form of governments and politics - Rod Hague & Martin Harrop & Shaun Breslin From Pax Romana to Pax Americana - Björn Hettne Municipal politics - Olof Petersson Foreign political systems - Lindahl Comparative methodology - Thomas Denk The suicide - Emile Durkheim Scientific writing - Karin Widerberg Cultural-Sociological texts - Pierre Bourdieu Nordic politics - Olof Petersson Eleven texts in political theory - Hallberg & Jansson & Mörkenstam Political theory - Andrew Heywood Democracy and its antagonists - Robert A. Looking back at it, I recall missing my book on feminist theory and Das Kapital, and a book on Hegel. I am pretty sure I sold them off to another student that started a year later than me.

Nestor - Teenage Rebel
Oh well, the schedule isn't waiting for me. Men's final is soon (significantly less fun I'm gonna be honest). But this is who we are rooting for:
Martin Regborn
Alvaro Casado
Jonatan Gustavsson
One thing I love about the knockout, is that men and women have the same maps. I think it really highlights how little total course distance actually matters in the end
Alvaro is last atm, which I honestly would've expected. Just seeing anyone who's not swedish, swiss, norwegian, danish or finnish in the final is always fun
Why the fuck are people standing up, you see just fine when sitting. LET ME SEE I'M SHORT I'M A SHORTY SIT DOWN OH MY GOSH
Moving again. Fucking hell. At least I still have my broken GPS tracker
And now more people are standing up. Nothing interesting is happening and I can't even see it
Jonatan came third again lol. Casado came last, but again, just the fact that he's here exceeded everyone's expectations. Regborn came in 5th. I had hoped for more, but knock out is easier if you're an underdog, but harder if you consistently perform well, which he does.

Lisa Montez // Jonas Brodin
even keel, level-headed brodin: milf. really all I gotta say here, personally. love you, jimmy. sorry your husband (matt dumba) seems to be MIA from the movie, he got sent to arizona.
Ms. Falstaff (The Librarian) // Filip Gustavsson
this man is so lovable and adorable but also....I feel like....closet bitch energy. and since we've already put this man in the acting role of a lifetime as a bus driver who yells at unruly kids, let's keep it rolling!!! gus will shush those kids SO well and throw in a disapproving headshake as a bonus. and we are GRATEFUL.
Audition Girl // Alex Goligoski
look, goose absolutely deserves better than this. but as aforementioned, we are limited by the roles available in HSM, so I am choosing to imagine goose earnestly winking, pointing, and nodding while singing What I've Been Looking For. also he has a flower in his hair.
Alan // Marcus Johansson
this guy.....all I can think during this scene is, "man, that guy's really showing his whole ass on stage", from the written lyrics on his hand to his obvious crush on ms. darbus. and once that phrase was in my mind, well, it was inextricably linked to an image that lives rent free in my mind forever. sorry, mojo, you probably deserve better than this. love you anyway. <3
Cyndra // Marco Rossi
oh, cyndra. you really busted out that operatic solo to audition with for this mid musical and NO ONE appreciated you. and beloved marco rossi....well, he's too talented for this rinkydink show. perhaps the spring musicale????
Ballet Audition Guy // Patrick Maroon
patty's assigned ballet audition guy simply because he dressed as the black swan with his wife for halloween, so he's already got the costume and can really save us some big bucks in wardrobe (and it's all about budget, baby!). but c'mon. if I'm being real. I can't pretend this casting is anything more than a thinly veiled & constructed situation to put That Man back in That Outfit.
Audition Girl // Kirill Kaprizov
this is by far the funniest casting to me. essentially: this character comes on stage to audition. freezes up. and runs away. frankly, kaprizov's disappearing act at the all star game 2023 goes a long way towards scoring him this role because it's highly indicative of how he'd do in a performance/entertainment context: he simply Does Not Want To. anyway, he's our superstar! he's everything! and he's nowhere to be found! (he can be double cast as a wildcat basketball player. for the boys.)
Weird Kid #1 & #2 // Audra Martin & Mark Parrish
THESE MOTHERFUCKERS. these motherfuckers and their weird interpretive dance poetry audition. they are literally billed as weird kid #1 & #2, and who is that if not beloved studio hosts audra martin and mark parrish. their screen time is less than 30 seconds, but audra and mark would commit wholeheartedly and run away with the entire fucking movie.
the minnesota wild as High School Musical characters
did I take this too seriously? yes. have I spent the last week thinking about this? also yes. anyway, the context: we were assigned the wildcats by a swede. @babygirlspurgeon kept tagging things with HSM lyrics. @wildaboutmnhockey created the masterpiece video of the mn wild set to getcha head in the game. so now here I am!!! this has been meticulously constructed with the help of my friend who doesn't know anything about the wild beyond what I tell her (shoutout to zoe for being balls to the wall no matter what I throw at her! who else will discuss the misc. cunt levels of the wild players with me). anyway to make this easier on ourselves we constructed a reality wherein High School Musical is being recreated on ice & instead of basketball in the plot it's hockey, so this is NOT about who's most like a character etc (though that ended up being a large part of it anyway whoops), but who could embody them best in a production of it. since the cast for HSM is not...particularly large, I was really getting down into the weeds with minor parts to fit (almost) the whole roster in here, so most everyone has their moment!!! anyway. and lastly. I am just saying that mounting this show during intermissions could maybe fix the nightmare this season has been & bring the team together. because they are. after all. all in this together.
tldr: this is basically a fancast of HSM using only the minnesota wild. I am not explaining myself any further
***
Troy Bolton // Matt Boldy
look. we really had to waffle between many options for Troy and this is where we ended up. my thoughts on matt boldy have been semi-well documented at this point, so mr. white bread bimbo feels like an organic option for this role. I feel like he can really serve us some mid-range semi-insensitive high school jock realness + angst without trying too hard. plus: I feel like he'll play off Shawzy as Gabriella really well.
Gabriella Montez // Mason Shaw
for as fucking annoying as Gabriella is at points, there's an earnest authenticity there that shawzy so easily embodies. his "let's play hockey" moment from playoffs 2023........he has the emotional RANGE and will murder When There Was Me and You in cold blood. plus, much like gabriella does for troy in HSM, mason will be able to coax that emotional performance from boldy as troy with his whole do-it-for-shawzy energy. what else can be said!!! the boys love him!! so don't worry, shawzy!! you soon will be soaring. flying. and breaking free.
Sharpay Evans // Marcus Foligno
marcus foligno the man that you are. he can and WILL serve the cunt necessary to be Sharpay. he will commit body and soul to bringing this role to life, though we may have to adjust the line "evaporate, tall person" to be more appropriate. anyway. I would give SO much in this life to see moose perform Bop to the Top. who will fund this with me.
Ryan Evans // Mats Zuccarello
known funky little man mats zuccarello does SO WELL as Ryan in my mind. his dancing has been well documented so you KNOW he's gonna absolutely kill the game with those jazz squares (it's a crowd favorite! everybody loves a good jazz square), plus his affable, everyman, team-first energy is exactly what the role of ryan demands. also: the idea of him as ryan and foligno as sharpay....chef's kiss.
Chad Danforth // Ryan Hartman
hartzy...hype man for the boys...put him a series of shirts with chirpy slogans on them for my enjoyment please!!! then make him walk around with sports props for the entire production. anyway, hartzy gives me the requisite jock bro energy necessary to pull off chad's role, as well as the bitchiness needed to essentially sabotage something that is making his best buddy troy happy. plus. I'm just SAYING. given chad and ryan's dynamic in HSM2. I am eyeing him and zuccy with anticipation.
Taylor McKessie // Joel Eriksson Ek
he's going the distance. he's going for speed. he's being cast as the tenacious captain of the scholastic decathlon team. mr. september is nothing but committed to his craft and this seriousness and dedication is EXACTLY what we need for taylor. that being said, our boy jeek is up for some shenanigans given the right situation, so will he manufacture a situation to rudely disrupt the decathlon & basketball finals? but of course!!
Kelsi Nielsen // Connor Dewar
who ELSE is going to bring enough weird girl energy to the table?? I feel like dewey 2 would take this SO seriously and the role of kelsi, while at times beyond fucking annoying, demands nothing but sincerity and dedication. he wouldn't be able to NOT take this seriously. this man has also stated that he would be a writer if not for hockey, so we can really get some method acting up in this bitch. essentially: put a bowler hat on that beast and watch him go.
Ms. Darbus // Marc-Andre Fleury
this role had to be rotated in my mind a lot before settling on a casting choice. I mean, goalies are weird, and I feel like flower would bring jussssst enough bizarro energy that would perfectly drive a middle-aged thespian who, for some reason, allowed a high school student to write and mount a musical that seems to make little to no sense. maybe it's all part of a large prank. who knows.
Coach Bolton // Jake Middleton
I can't pretend this is anything other than typecasting, I'm so sorry. I can't look at middsy without being reminded of the dad from Inside Out, plus "the mustache is saying pushing 50" according to my friend. I can also perfectly envision middsy yelling WHAT ARE THOSE TWO DOING IN A TREE with great dedication, so. assigned dilf at HSM casting
Lucille Bolton // Jared Spurgeon
does spurge deserve a larger role? maybe. possibly. probably. but look: once we cast middsy as troy's dad, spurgeon was quick to follow as troy's mom. who are we to fight the natural sexual chemistry of these two? anyway. assigned milf at HSM casting
Jason Cross // Brandon Duhaime
typecast as dumb jock from a team of jocks. what does that say about you, mr. duhaime??? anyway, dewey 1 is really going to deliver on the clueless but loyal bro vibes here. as a bonus. a very IMPORTANT bonus. I have to note that at the end of All in this Together jason is the one to remove kelsi's bowler hat and help her shoot a basket in a VERY flirtatious manner. and I AM all about putting the deweys in that situation, so help me god.
Zeke Baylor // Frédérick Gaudreau
he IS a sweetheart!!!!! a sweetheart!!!!! someday you WILL make the perfect crÚme brûlée, freddy!!! & your boys will love you for it!!!!
Martha Cox // Brock Faber
the glasses are giving nerd. and then THIS is giving pop and lock and jam and break.
Skater Who Plays the Cello // Jon Merrill
do I need to explain this one????? c'mon. he's so believable as a skater kid and ALSO as someone who plays the cello. the duality of man is contained in jonny "vibes" merrill.
(tbc)
#not explaining myself any further but I am accepting any and all questions. and commentary.#this is insane. I fully recognize that

Production on Dampyr, the first film of a new independent vampire franchise, began last month based on the comic series published in Italy by Sergio Bonelli Editore since 2000, created by Mauro Boselli and Maurizio Colombo. But it isnât the only project based on an Italian comic series in the works â another is a BatmanâDylan Dog crossover.
