@the-mines-are-singing an' I met at a coffee place when we were both settlin' in to Witwicky. He was on his way home from a book store celebratin' that they'd released some fancy special edition o' his son's poetry, and I was on my way to therapy. Yeh don't get stories like I got without needin' it.

Well, one o' the poems he was readin', I happened to know it cause it was written fer energon minin' slaves. I wasn't an energon miner, mind yeh, but I wasn't exactly free there fer a time in my youth- so it resonated wit' me too.

Well, he already had memorized some o' the best places to sit an' read, and I'd already figured out where all the hardware stores 'n such were, so we ended up exploring the town together. Got married a year later.

Nonetheless Kup will fully expect his date or significant other to be okay with kissing, holding hands, going on these mythical dates, accepting gifts from him and expecting to hear him say 'I love you' at least 10 times a day. He's not usually all goo goo ga ga but when he is.....he takes it seriously.

You'll be stuck with him forever and I mean till death do you part! And even then you won't be completely rid of him because he'll go visit your grave....because for some reason he thinks you'll get lonely all on your own. Oh and he's a package deal, you wanna be with him you gotta be with Cyclonus! Tailgate is known for invading your personal space and he will not be shy to tell you just how much he loves you, if you're tall he will climb you JUST to get to your face/helm and hug you/kiss your cheek. He's also known for spoiling his lovers by bringing them gifts from other planets or whatever was recommended to him by Google or Amazon! Human tech is great!

So another EarthSpark thing that came to my attention was Ratchet and Drift were pitched into being in EarthSpark.

Neat.

They were pitched as having trying to look at the Cyber Sleeves the kids had, with Ratchet and Drift having scientific and philosophical thoughts on what they are despite not having a solid answer.

Also neat.

They were also pitched as being married.

Not neat.

This stranglehold IDW has over Transformers needs to end yesterday. I liked IDW, but it’s clear Hasbro wasn’t feeling it anymore, and the attempt at a reboot didn’t help. Not to mention, toys made with the IDW cast in mind don’t appear to sell well. Tarn appears to be the exception, because it’s Tarn, and he’s awesome, but I’ve also never personally seen him in person in stores. Fellow comics original Jhiaxus yes however, so take that as you will. It’s also why so many people were surprised two nobody IDW2 robots, an Autobot and an Acenticon, were getting toys. Even hard core fans have no idea who they are or much desire for these two, and I say that with my open fondness for Autobot Scrounge.

The couplings in IDW always felt kinda forced… I’ve often viewed them as crack ships, some working slightly better than others. I thought Chromedome and Rewind was handled the best, and I’d be very open to seeing them in EarthSpark as (one of) the gay couple(s) in the show.

Drift and Ratchet being a couple comes kind of out of nowhere. I get there was this opposites attract thing going on with an atheist and religious guy, but the joke got old quickly. Besides some implications Drift and Rodimus were more of a thing, age differences are a sticky point for me. A lot of the main couples amounted to twenty something kid hooking up with grandpa or grandma. I know age is more of a suggestion in TFs, but it always bothered me. Tailgate Cyclonus also fall into this for me, but I also preferred their dynamic being a plucky son and stand offish father learning to care for each other. The moment it became romantic I lost interest and felt kinda creeped out T’be honest. Same with Drift and Ratchet. Ratchet’s said to be super old, not quite Kup or Alpha Trion old, but he’s up there. Drift in comparison is about Hot Rod’s age, and met Ratchet at a clinic on Cybertron when Ratchet was already older than dirt… The two being a crusty grandpa who loved his grandson but doesn’t quite get his interests was a dynamic I liked.

I just think there’s better options romantically for Drift and Ratchet. Closer in age too. I imagine in the interest of fairness the EarthSpark versions would be closer in age. RiD15 Drift, to me at least, seemed a bit older than Bumblebee and was more of a stern but well meaning uncle/father to Sideswipe, Jetstorm and Slipstream. Prime Ratchet felt married to his job meanwhile…

Admittedly I’m surprised Drift was entertained at all. A lot of the IDW original characters seem to have been benched in media for the time being, and Drift’s role in Cyberverse was lauded as the most idiotic thing the show did for both supporters and detractors that even the writers regret using him that way. It kinda feels like that particular instant sorta sullied the character for some frankly…

If we do get Ratchet back in particular, since we have Steve Blum reprising Starscream, I say let’s get Jeffery Combs to reprise Ratchet. Drift I’m not sure. It’s easy for me to say Eric Bauza should return, but maybe there’s a better alternative for a potential EarthSpark Drift.

I don’t think you can really do the proposed plot anymore since that ship has sailed, but there’s a role for Ratchet and Drift, just not as a couple. Ideally, just make a new couple. Gears having a boyfriend would be funny, someone who can see through his sourball antics, or give Pipes an aquatic mode boyfriend he was wanting. -checks- Hmm I dunno have it be Pipes and Waverider, that could be fun.

So do the Autobots or Decpticon have like small teams reunions or do certain people just stay in contact with each

The Autobots do have a three-day team reunion once a year at Alpha Trion’s restored estate! It’s just fun times all around and reminiscing about the time they spent together because for a decade, they were all brother and sisters-in-arms and shared their fears and despair and joy and hope with each other in these walls. Hell, they even kip in the same rooms they used to for sake of old days and friendships forged in fire. They all pitch in for dinner, talk about how they’re all doing (with offers to help for those finding it harder to adjust to post-war life than others), play team games and relax.

Outside of that, there’s splinter groups of (non-married/related) people close to each other who remain in more constant contact with each other including:

- Jazz, Prowl and Springer (Prowl and Springer visit Kup’s grave once a year with the remaining Wreckers)

- Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Hotrod and Ratchet.

- Chromia and Ironhide

- Alpha Trion, Rung and Optimus Prime

☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?

man.... many such cases. Diving into the depths of my google drive and fishing out the pacific rim au. I'd be remiss not to summon @suborbitalrailgun to the scene bc I talked about so much of it with him.

If you haven't watched pacific rim, first of all, you should. Second, all you need to know is they're giant robots powered by friendship and teamwork.

This au was at one point so convoluted that I had drawn multiple timelines for it. Those notebooks are now lost to time (somewhere in this apartment but I will not go looking rn). Basically, the Cons and Bots are two of the only remaining large governments on post-apocalyptic (not me) earth. They aren't enemies, per se, but they don't always see eye to eye when it comes to dealing with the kaiju.

There are all kinds of sub-stories, but I'll just pick out my favorite characters and give you a rundown of what they're doing. Also, it's mostly gender-bent bc I am a lesbian.

Red Alert (she/her): LOCCENT communications technician, partnered to Fort Max (jaeger pilot) and Cerebros (medic), ex-wife of Inferno (firefighter/emergency response)

Soundwave (they/them): LOCCENT communications technician, notoriously neutral after the Epic Decepticon Falling Out (long story). Ex-partner of Megatron, has two kids from that relationship (Rumble and Frenzy).

Prowl (she/her): Jaeger pilot and tactical genius. Married to Jazz (both of them are trying to draw Soundwave in after their defection, but they're oblivious), de facto parent of Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, actual absent mother to Springer (Taraprowl child, raised largely by Kup)

Summer solstice - celebration of the sun god Kupala

The night of June 21-22 is the most mystical time of the year, steeped in mystery and legend. On the shortest night of the year, light conquers darkness, a fern flower blooms in a dense forest and plants gain magical power.

The name Kupala has other meanings as well: In Sanskrit, kup means "to shine, to shine." Besides, in Old Slavic "kup" has a meaning - "white, bright". There is another version that the name of the god of the summer sun consists of two words, which in Sanskrit mean as follows: "ku" - "earth", "pala" - "protector", "preserving". Hence the assumption that the name Kupala means the one who protects the earth with his glowing power.

The peak of the summer solstice is June 21.

From this moment the gates of abundance open, the portal between all three worlds, a time of magic begins and new knowledge and insights can come to us, wishes are fulfilled. The energy of the sun allows us to be filled with power throughout the year.

In the morning at dawn dew and medicinal herbs are collected. During these days we can perform rituals with fire and water. Ideally, we can make a fire on the shore, then jump over it and go swimming right after.

WATER AND FIRE play an important role in the Kupala night. They symbolize the merging of feminine and masculine energies.

Water is a symbol of femininity and health, wisdom and love. Fire is a masculine principle, it offers the possibility of social realization and success.

According to tradition, however, a woman should light the fire, as she possesses the power of fertility. Games with singing, round dance and dances were held around the fire.

People jumped over the fire to purify themselves and get rid of diseases and negativity. Lovers held hands and tested their love by jumping over the fire: If they did not separate their hands, love would be long and strong.

HERBS are saturated with magical power. And collected on this day, they can work wonders - they heal, give strength, beauty and youth. It is especially worth collecting nettles and gentian. The first protects the whole year from problems and the second helps the single women to get married.

On the day of Kupala such strong energy streams go from the sun to the earth that it is impossible not to feel them at dawn with the first rays of the strongest days of the year, when there is a union with the universal rhythms.

May our intentions be pure and sublime, then they will surely receive the support of the summer sun god Kupala. On this day we meet the bright light of the Sun and are filled with its powerful force throughout the year to share with our fellow man and do good for the benefit of our family and for the benefit of all living beings!

Humanformers! Taraprowl goes to divorce court au, where Tarantulas is fighting to keep custody of Ostaros, while Prowl is fighting to keep custody of Ostaros away from both Tarantulas AND himself. He claims that custody should instead go to Kup. Which astounds everyone in attendance, especially Kup who was not told any of this in advance. Prowl had only said that he was just meant to stand in as a character witness.

Ultra Magnus, pinching his nose and taking deep breaths after the judge called a break: that is not how custody works.

“Royal Family of the Primes!”

So here’s what I have so far!(WARNING IT'S LONG)

Elita and Optimus:

Optimus and Elita are married, the are Kings and Queens of Cybertron. Also cybertron is like this weird mix of both metal and plant life. Primes/Magnus are considered royalty in this au and have great power.

Before Optimus was a prime (aka Orion) he met Arial and instantly fell in love almost instantly, but didn’t know what kind of dark curse she had. Ariel at night would turn into Black arachnid (in this au most insect/insecticons are fairies) , she tried hiding this from Orion, But eventually he found out.

Orion however didn’t care and loved Ariel anyway which broke the curse that was placed on her. Late Orion is chosen and becomes prime, and also marries Ariel immediately afterwards.

Nautica x Rodimus:

Skip to a few years later.

The war between decepticons and autobots start. Decepticons are shape shifters, most of them shapeshift into dragons though. Ariel chooses to fight with Optimus and Magnus as a commander as well, this is how she gains the title of Elita one respectfully.

During this time Hot Rod is a knight under Optimus command as well. He is the adoptive son of Kup, and doesn’t know much of his past. During the war Hot Rod meet Nautica who is an engineer and overtime they both fall for each other.

Hot Rod however has to leave for war and promises Nautica he’d come back for her. On the Battlefield it is revealed that Hot Rod is chosen as a Prime and was related to Optimus. He accepts Hot Rod back as Rodimus prime and even kup as well.

Once Rodimus is coronated he immediately goes to find Nautica and marries her. They later have Undex(on accident of course).

Magnus and Rung:

Magnus and Rung where married before Optimus, but because he wasn’t chosen as a prime he couldn’t become king. No one thought he would ever marry considering his very serious demeanor, but Rung somehow got through it.

Magnus is usually always busy and so is Rung, so they didn’t have time to have children. Once they tried it’s revealed Rung can’t because of he’s sadly to old. Maybe one day they will get a Sparkling of their own…

Bumblebee :D

Bumblebee is a Halfling fairy born from both Elita and Optimus. After the war Elita wanted to have a child but feared it may not be possible. But primus blessed them with a Sparkling to there excitement(mostly Optimus).

Once bumblebee was born most bots were confused. Not only was he tiny,but he also had huge fairy wings. Elita came to the conclusion that because she was cursed, bumblebee somehow became a halfling and worried for her Sparklings safety.

But as Bumblebee grew so did his curiosity and magic. Bumblebee is very kind and Naive but he is by no means weak whatsoever(not magically at least). He has the strongest magic in cybertron, but would rather make friends than fight.

I was in college when this came out, but I was driving a VW Beetle at the time so, yeah. Didn't devastate me (pun intended) , but it was a bummer. I was vastly amused that they got famous and semi-famous actors to voice roles in the film.

Kup was the very recognizable voice of Lionel Stander, who played both gangsters and comic relief sidekicks in 40's movies, but was blacklisted in the 50s. When this movie came out, he was playing the chauffeur to the rich, married detective couple in Hart to Hart.
