A lot of women’s hockey news and I wouldn’t be able to fit everything into screenshots so here is a summary
Most of these from Angélica Rodriguez, Erica Ayala, and Anne Tokarski’s twitter threads
-league looking to start in January, can go as late as may/June
-this year will be shorter and 24 games but should be 32 going forward. In future years season will start in November
-no team names or logos yet
-15 round draft, with a draft lottery, to determine who picks when, and then will be snake format.
-each team can sign 3 players before the draft, and then can fill out the rest in free agency after the draft
-players have until Sept 3 to declare for the draft on Sept 18 in Toronto
-rights of players are held on to for two years after draft, then they can re-enter the draft but the maximum amount of times they can be drafted is twice
-players can be traded this season, draft picks cannot be but will be starting next year
-players pool is 300~ players right now for who’s being contacted but players outside that pool can still declare for draft and aren’t necessarily uneligible
-the league has no plans to do a franchise model and right now mark and Kimbra Walter are the sole investors
-no rinks decided yet for games or practices it seems and multiple rinks may be in play in markets at least for this season. Says it’s possible New York team will actually play in jersey or Connecticut for some games. Nhl collaboration expected and wild writer Michael Russo says xcel energy center expected to be used. AHL and OHL rinks also considered
-no news on streaming but goal is to have all teams streamed
-transgender inclusion policy is being worked on but no collaboration plans with other orgs who specialize in trans rights were stated
-players may submit a Compassionate Circumstance Waiver Request that if the league approves allows them to be considered to only play in one specific market. The team(s) in that market would be the only ones allowed to negotiate a deal but wouldn’t be obligated to sign that player. (Not clear what would be required for that waiver to be approved but I imagine it may be in the CBA)
-CBA is here https://global-uploads.webflow.com/64d22f9c3617ad42d10d32f1/64ed721629f3b2cfe84c7a54_PWHL-CBA-thpwhlcom.pdf (I would like to summarize this as well when I am off work)
-11-13 full time staff for teams not including front office members

The suspect accused of stabbing four young women at an AMC movie theater in Braintree, Massachusetts and then two McDonald's employees at a rest stop in Plymouth over the weekend has pleaded not guilty to charges relating to the second incident, his attorney told Fox News Digital.
Jared Ravizza, 26, of Chilmark – a town on the island of Martha's Vineyard – was arraigned in Plymouth District Court Tuesday on charges including assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection to the alleged rest stop attack.
His attorney told Fox News Digital "no comment" when asked if he had a statement on behalf of Ravizza.
The Braintree Police Department says the movie theater stabbing happened around 6 p.m. on Saturday, leaving four young females between the ages of 9 and 17 with "non-life-threatening injuries," before Ravizza allegedly carried out a second attack targeting McDonald’s employees at a rest stop along Route 3 in Plymouth about an hour later.
MASSACHUSETTS STABBING SPREE SUSPECT JARED RAVIZZA WAS ‘LAUGHING’ DURING MOVIE THEATER ATTACK, MOTHER SAYS
That attack, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office says, left a 21-year-old female and 28-year-old male injured.
"Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the McDonald’s restaurant that appears to show Ravizza allegedly reach through the drive-thru window and stab the male victim with a large knife," the office said. "Video then shows Ravizza leave the drive-thru in a black Porsche, park the car, go inside the McDonald’s, and stab the second female victim."
Ravizza then allegedly fled the scene before being taken into custody around 7:15 p.m. in Sandwich, a town on Cape Cod.
Prosecutors in Braintree intend to charge Ravizza with four counts each of assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Fox News Digital.
Ravizza is also reportedly a suspect in a homicide investigation.
The Boston Globe reports that investigators are determining whether Ravizza was involved in a murder in Deep River, Connecticut.
When Fox News Digital reached out to the Connecticut State Police about Ravizza, the agency sent over information about a homicide that took place on May 25 – the same date as the Braintree and Plymouth stabbings.
"A deceased individual was found at this location," the report stated. "The identity of the decedent has not been confirmed and the investigation remains active and ongoing."
"A suspect in this investigation has been taken into custody in the State of Massachusetts and there is no active threat to the public," police said.
A website for Ravizza describes him as "an American serial entrepreneur and CEO of Ravizza Jones, an internationally renowned full-service digital marketing agency based between New York and Beverly Hills.
"He is also an American artist and skier," it adds. "Ravizza resides between Beverly Hills and Martha’s Vineyard."

30 Covers, 30 Days 2022: Day 5
Tumblr media
It’s day five of 30 Covers, 30 Days! It’s almost the end of the week, why not take a break and go by the beach? Children’s Fiction novel Shark Skin and Swedish Fish by Tori-Lynn Bell is here to take you on a fun summer adventure! This cover was designed by returning designer, Holly Aguilar.
Shark Skin and Swedish Fish
Sometimes life is a series of learning how to make the best of things... but how are you supposed to do that when everything is going wrong? It's the summer before seventh grade, and twelve-year-old Mack is still learning what life is like without one of her dads. Things have been hard ever since he passed away, and then she's told she has to spend the entire summer with grandparents she's never met before. She should be excited to spend a summer in a house on the beach, but she doesn't know anyone in Bellevue, and her stomach twists just thinking about all the unknowns living in a new place will mean. Turns out, there are plenty of kids in Bellevue just like her. And when sharks start disappearing from the coast, Mack and her new friends have a pretty good idea who’s behind it…
About the Author
Tori-Lynn Bell is a queer, neurodivergent middle grade writer who writes about the hard parts of being a kid, like losing someone you love, or feeling like an alien. They have an MFA from Southern New Hampshire University and work as an inventory coordinator and children’s book buyer at House of Books in Kent, Connecticut. Visit them on their website to see what they’re writing next!
Tumblr media
About the Designer
Holly Aguilar is an award-winning designer and illustrator, so if anyone does judge your book by its cover, she’s got you…covered. By day, Holly is a Design Director at Balcom Agency, the largest marketing firm in Fort Worth, Texas. Learn more about her at her company’s website!

Activation Agencies in Connecticut: A Dynamic Approach to Marketing
Connecticut, known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and economic vitality, is also a hub for innovative marketing strategies. In recent years, the concept of activation marketing has gained significant traction, helping brands connect with consumers in unique and engaging ways. In this article, we will explore what activation agencies do, why they are important, and highlight some of the top activation agencies in Connecticut.
What Are Activation Agencies?

Why Are Activation Agencies Important?
Direct Consumer Engagement: Activation agencies provide opportunities for brands to engage directly with consumers. This direct engagement allows for real-time feedback and fosters a personal connection with the audience.
Memorable Brand Experiences: By creating unique and immersive experiences, activation agencies help brands stand out in a crowded marketplace. These memorable moments can leave a lasting impression on consumers, making them more likely to remember and choose the brand in the future.
Measurable Impact: Activation campaigns often include measurable objectives, such as product trials, social media engagement, and lead generation. This data-driven approach allows brands to assess the effectiveness of their campaigns and optimize future efforts.
Innovative Approaches: Activation agencies are known for their creativity and innovation. They bring fresh ideas to the table, helping brands break away from conventional marketing methods and explore new avenues for reaching their target audience.

Podcasting Tech: Keeping Podcasts In High Gear
Tumblr media
You might send out a nerd alert when you think about the host of a technology podcast. In the case of the Podcasting Tech Podcast and creator / host Mathew Passy you'd be totally wrong. First, Passy is just as comfortable in front of the mic as he is behind the scenes with the equipment. He is articulate, funny, engaging, and incisive.
Second, Mathew Passy is also a gearhead, and is Stephen Hawking level-knowledgeable about podcasting, and audio  / video technology.
Podcasting Tech may be one of the best shows about podcasting technology, trends, and optimizing your podcast.
For example, a recent show with guest Pat Cheung, the founder of Fanlist, formerly known as PodInbox, explored the evolution of his company and its potential to transform a podcast.Fanlist simplifies the process for podcasters to effortlessly receive audio messages from their fans -- an excellent monetizing tool.
In this episode, Passy says: "We explore the inspiration behind Fanlist's creation, its evolution over time, and the game-changing features it offers podcasters looking for stronger connections with their audiences. Podcasters seeking to enhance fan engagement and discover fresh avenues for community interaction should tune in to this captivating episode."
In another recent episode, Robert Tuchman, co-founder of Amaze Media Labs, has developed an incredibly innovative way to connect with global audiences and unlock the potential of your podcast, Trailergram. In the episode, guest and host agree that discoverability and building an audience are the universal problems every podcaster faces. Traditional ads just fall short in podcast promotion because they miss the most important component - the ability to listen.
They discuss the Trailergram platform, how it works, and why it’s a unique and potentially most effective way to get a podcaster's show in front of your target audience at a large scale.
Mathew Passy has many years of experience in radio and podcasting. A native of East Brunswick, New Jersey, Mathew graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. degree in Media Management and Sociology. He has a Media Arts Center Degree in TV and Radio Broadcasting from the prestigious Connecticut School Of Broadcasting.
Tumblr media
In his career, Mathew has worked at the Wall Street Journal and in radio, in both cases spearheading early podcasting initiatives. For eight years, Mathew started and ran The Podcast Consultant, where he charted a successful course for the creation, launch, and expansion of a thriving podcast production company, culminating in a strategic acquisition; the business was sold to a marketing agency.
Tumblr media
Passy is also the founder and ex-owner of Suite Recording, a state-of-the-art audio and video recording suite in South Jersey. Suite Recording serves an impressive client portfolio in South Jersey, which has a vibrant podcasting community.
Mathew Passy reached out to me after the announcement of the Ear Worthy Independent Podcast Awards early in July to discuss the awards on his show, Podcasting Tech. I showed up on the morning of July 22 at Suite Recording in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, about 10 miles east of Philadelphia.
First, Suite Recording is a gorgeous recording suite, elegantly designed and carefully curated for the podcasting experience -- audio and video. Joe Gangemi, co-owner of Suite Recording, was welcoming and pleased to share the tech and the architectural features in the studio.
Passy was a gracious podcast host, making me feel welcome and putting me at ease. We chatted for a few minutes before the podcast interview and after the show was over. Mathew Passy is pushing the bounds of podcasting -- audio and video -- with mobile recording equipment, a podcast beacon, and new tech to make podcasting more accessible. I learned from Mathew and Joe that South Jersey has a vibrant podcasting community scene.
Passy's incisive comments throughout the interview injected a welcome vibrancy into our discussion. It was a positive and pleasurable experience, thanks to Mathew and Joe. As a host, Passy is in total command of the conversations he has with guests. As an interviewer, he probes for the information that he believes listeners want and expect.
When discussing podcast technology, Passy offers listeners solutions that are cost-effective and swap complexity for intuitive design.
At the end of every interview, Passy always asks his guest: "If you could, what would you improve about podcasting?"
Check out Podcasting Tech. It's a valuable tool for aspirational and experienced podcasters, who want to upgrade their shows. If you're a podcast listener, the show has value because of Passy's intuitive sense of podcast content and podcasting tech trends.

Privacy Law Developments Thus Far In 2024
Tumblr media
2024 marks a significant year for consumer privacy legislation in the United States, with new laws set to take effect in Florida, Oregon, Montana, and Texas, alongside stringent measures in New York, Massachusetts, and California. Notably, California's Age-Appropriate Design Code Act expands online privacy protections for minors, Massachusetts is considering comprehensive privacy bills, and New York is advancing significant data privacy legislation, highlighting a growing trend towards stronger consumer privacy protections in the absence of comprehensive federal privacy legislation. California Age Appropriate Design Code Act The California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act (CAADCA), signed into law on September 15, 2022, represents a significant shift in online privacy protections for minors under 18 in California. Set to take effect on July 1, 2024, the CAADCA extends beyond the scope of the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which only covers children under 13.The CAADCA applies to businesses that meet the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) definition and provide online services, products, or features likely to be accessed by children. This broad applicability is determined by factors such as: - Being directed to children as defined by COPPA - Routinely accessed by a significant number of children, based on audience composition evidence - Marketing advertisements to children - Utilizing design elements appealing to children (e.g., games, cartoons, celebrities) - Internal company research indicating a significant child audience Key requirements of the CAADCA include: - Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs): Businesses must conduct DPIAs before offering services likely to be accessed by children and review them biennially. - Privacy by Default: Automatically configure the highest level of privacy settings for children users. - Age Estimation: Implement methods to estimate user age with reasonable certainty. - Transparent Communication: Provide privacy information, terms of service, and policies in clear, concise language suitable for the identified age groups. - Monitoring Signals: Give children obvious signals when they are being monitored or tracked. - Accessibility: Provide easily accessible tools for children to exercise privacy rights and report concerns. - Data Minimization: Prohibit collection and use of personal information not necessary for the service. - Geolocation and Profiling Restrictions: Ban collection of precise geolocation and profiling unless there is a compelling reason. Enforcement of the CAADCA will be overseen by the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA), which must publish regulations and guidelines by April 1, 2024. Violations can result in civil penalties of up to $2,500 per affected child for negligent violations and $7,500 for intentional violations. It's worth noting that on September 18, 2023, a preliminary injunction was issued by the District Court for the Northern District of California, preventing the enforcement of the CAADCA due to potential First Amendment violations. This legal challenge highlights the complex balance between child protection and constitutional rights in the digital age. Despite this setback, the CAADCA has already inspired similar legislation in other states, including Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, New Jersey, New Mexico, and Nevada. This trend suggests a growing recognition of the need for enhanced online protections for minors across the United States. Massachusetts Privacy Act Overview Massachusetts is actively working towards establishing comprehensive data privacy legislation, with two key bills currently under consideration: the Massachusetts Information Privacy and Security Act (H. 60) and the Massachusetts Data Privacy Protection Act (S. 25). These proposed laws aim to position Massachusetts at the forefront of U.S. state privacy regulations. Both bills would apply broadly to organizations in Massachusetts, from small nonprofits to large multinational corporations, with varying compliance requirements based on the size and activities of the organization. Key features of these proposed laws include: - Data Minimization: The Massachusetts Data Privacy Protection Act would impose a data minimization principle, limiting data collection, use, and disclosure to what is "necessary and proportionate" for specific enumerated purposes. - Private Right of Action: Unlike most other state privacy laws, the Massachusetts Data Privacy Protection Act would create a private right of action for violations of any provision, potentially changing the landscape of privacy law enforcement in the U.S. - Workplace Monitoring Restrictions: The Massachusetts Data Privacy Protection Act would impose restrictions on workplace monitoring and electronic surveillance, limiting such activities to specific enumerated purposes and requiring the least invasive methods. - Data Broker Registry: Both bills propose establishing a data broker registry, similar to those already implemented in California and Vermont. - Broad Applicability: The laws would apply to all organizations dealing with personal information of Massachusetts residents, not just those located in or conducting business in the state. - Comprehensive Personal Information Definition: The laws define personal information to include first and last names, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state-issued identification numbers, and financial account numbers. - Written Information Security Program (WISP): Organizations would be required to implement a WISP, considering factors such as the scale, scope, nature, and quantity of data collected or stored. - Specific Security Standards: The laws would establish minimum security standards for computer systems, including secure user authentication, data encryption, and firewall defenses. - Third-Party Service Provider Requirements: The laws would require third-party service providers to maintain adequate security measures to protect personal information. Enforcement of these proposed laws would likely be the responsibility of the Massachusetts Attorney General, with potential civil penalties of up to $5,000 per violation. It's important to note that these bills are still pending before the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Advanced Information Technology, the Internet and Cybersecurity, which must finalize the proposed legislation before consideration by the General Court. The committee has indicated that it will mark up a bill based on testimony from a hearing held in October 2023, suggesting that the final legislation may incorporate elements from both proposed bills. As these bills progress through the legislative process, organizations operating in Massachusetts should closely monitor developments and begin preparing for potential compliance requirements. The proposed legislation represents a significant step towards comprehensive privacy protection in the state, potentially surpassing the strictness of existing laws in other jurisdictions. New York Data Privacy Legislation Developments New York is making significant strides in data privacy legislation with two key bills currently under consideration: the New York Privacy Act (S365B) and the New York Data Protection Act (S4201). These proposed laws aim to strengthen consumer privacy rights and impose new obligations on businesses handling personal data. The New York Privacy Act (S365B) is the more comprehensive of the two bills, having passed the Senate on June 3, 2024, with a vote of 41-19. Key features of S365B include: - Applicability: The act applies to businesses that conduct operations in New York or produce products/services targeted at New York residents, and meet one of the following criteria: - Annual gross revenue of $25 million or more - Control or process personal data of 50,000 or more consumers - Derive over 50% of gross revenue from the sale of personal data - Data Controller Categories: The act defines three distinct categories of entities handling consumer data: - Controllers: Entities determining the purpose and means of processing personal data - Processors: Entities processing data on behalf of controllers - Third parties: Other entities involved in data handling - Consumer Rights: The act grants New York consumers several rights regarding their personal data, including: - Right to request disclosure of personal information - Right to request deletion of personal information - Protection against discrimination for exercising these rights - Sensitive Data: The act establishes a category of "sensitive data" requiring higher protections, including health information, racial/ethnic origin, precise geolocation, and government-issued identifiers. - Transparency Obligations: Businesses must provide clear disclosures about their data collection and processing practices. The New York Data Protection Act (S4201), while less comprehensive, focuses on government entities and contractors. Key provisions include: - Disclosure Requirements: Government entities and contractors must disclose certain personal information collected about individuals. - Individual Rights: The act grants individuals the right to request disclosure and deletion of their personal information held by government entities and contractors. - Shared Information Regulations: The act outlines rules for sharing personal information between government entities or contractors. - Non-shareable Information: Certain types of personal information are designated as non-shareable. Both bills are still in the legislative process. S365B has passed the Senate and is currently in the Assembly Consumer Affairs and Protection Committee. S4201 is in the Senate Investigations and Government Operations Committee. These proposed laws represent a significant shift in New York's approach to data privacy, aligning the state more closely with other jurisdictions that have enacted comprehensive privacy legislation. If passed, these laws would require businesses and government entities operating in New York to substantially revise their data handling practices and privacy policies. It's worth noting that the potential enactment of federal privacy legislation, such as the proposed American Privacy Rights Act (APRA), could preempt these state laws. However, until such federal legislation is passed, New York's efforts to strengthen data privacy protections continue to progress through the state legislature.
