You guys started fake dating... That's how it all started. He wanted to make Addison Jelouse and you just want to get back at her for hurting your brother Derek.
You had 10 rules to this plan:
NO Sex - you
Never break rule #1 - you
Be on Mark's services/work in plastics if needed -Mark
Go on dates at least twice a month to make the act look real - Mark
No kissing or touching - if you have to just kiss forehead/cheek and don't touch anything below the waist - you
No sex with nurses, Mark - it'll blow the cover - you
Be nice to my friends(I don't care if you hate interns) - you
Trust each other - mark
Don't play favorites in the hospital - includes not helping with most surgeries/patients - you
Don't fall in love with each other - you
Derek hates it at first, even during the time you guys were faking it all. “stay away from my sister” Derek snapped at mark.
“too late... We're already together”
Derek and Mark got into a fight... That ended with black eyes, bruises, and Mark needing stitches on his face.
“I'm sorry this happened” you mumbled softly as you stitched his jaw for him. He stared at you with those blue eyes you love so much. “don't worry about it”
“maybe we should stop this whole thing” you suggested, Mark shook his head. “no, we got this. Rule #8, remember?” but really he was already falling so hard for you and he wanted to keep you close as long as possible.
Spoil alert you guys broke rule #10 and fell hard for each other. Well he fell first, but you fell harder. “I want this for real... No more fake shit, I love you”
After that ordeal you figured you owed Derek an explanation. Derek never found out about the fake dating, but you need to tell him where your feeling stand. “you love him, don't you?” Derek asks.
“I do... And I trust him” you say.
“if he hurts you... Cheats on you, I'll kill him” simply Derek said and you guys moved on with your lives.
Once you guys start dating for real he faithful and his heart now belongs to you.
Even Derek gave him credit for that. During the few months of you guys actually dating, deek would keep an eye on him. A hot nurse would walk by and Mark wouldn't even look at her.
You see a different side to Mark. He stops looking at any other woman. He just looks at you.
His sweeter, gentler side is only reserved for you.
Callie is your biggest supporter. Always hyping your relationship up. Mark might go to her for relationship advice. Callie might even be a referee during arguments.
Callie is definitely your best friend. You, Mark, and her the hospital's main trio.
Double dates with Callie and Arizona or Derek and Meredith.
He needs physical contact all the time. Rather it be cuddling on bed or on the couch or holding hands in the hospital.
He's a big cuddler. Sometimes he'll just wrap his arms around you and pull you to his chest without saying anything.
He's so flirty with you. No matter how many years you've been together, he still thinks you're the sexiest, most beautiful thing he's ever seen.
Like I said, he flirts with you so much. Some times he'll come up behind you while your working and whispere suggestive comment in your ear or grab your ass.
“stop it! We're at work” you quietly scolded him after his gabered your ass. “I can't help it... You have a nice ass”
You steal his leather jacket all the time, even though it looks big on you he thinks it's hot as hell on you. Now and days the only time he sees that jacket is if your wearing it.
Dirty jokes all the time. If you hear something remotely dirty you'll whisper, “that's what she said”
If he's had a hard day, he either needs one of two things. A rough fuck or he needs to curl up beside you and cuddle.
The way he kisses you makes your heart race. He holds your face in his hands and you honestly feel like you and him are the only things that matter in the world.
But he is a rough kisser, but mostly he's a passionate kisser. He pours all his love and emotions into it, he makes sure your the only one on this earth he wants to love.
He's soft with you when it comes to holding you and give affection. He's so gentle and delicate and you can tell through the way he brushes your hair from your face or the way he nuzzles his face into your neck that he just absolutely adores you.
Your is Angel and he feels so unworthy of you. He's so lucky to have you in his life and he doesn't want to screw it up.
Mark's not the jelouse type and neither are you. Dispite his man-whore past you both have a lot of trust in your relationship, but if you be-friend Jackson I think Mark would get jelouse.
Mark hates the way Jackson looks at you, Mark knows he likes you. But your completely oblivious to it because all you see is Mark.
Doggie parents at the beginning of your relationship. You brought home a rotwiler puppy home without him knowing one time.
That dog is your protector rather or not Mark is there or not. He also gets jealous of Mark and will nuzzle his way between you too if your hugging or kissing.
Sometimes you guys will get home so late from the hospital you'll just want to set on the couch and watch TV because your both sleep deprived.
You guys really don't know why or how you got into it, but you found a Chanel that shows re-runs of American Ninja Warrior and old WWE matches. You guys just stated watching them all the time.
He calls you Angel
You guys play wrestle all the time. Sometimes he'll just let you win because he loves seeing you being so happy about.
He steals the covers all the time and if you get cold you'll cuddle closer to him to get warm. He's relized this, so he'll intentionally steal the covers just to have extra cuddle time.
You get upset if he makes the interns that are on his service get him coffee or get his dry cleaning. “they aren't your servants, Mark” you say, taking the money back from the intern.
If you want Mark to do that stuff himself, you have to threaten to do it yourself. “I'll get it, I'm going that way anyway” you say and mark will quickly stop you. “no, no, I'll do it... You don't have to do that crap for me”
You guys don't fight often, but if you do it's usually a couple of days of the silent treatment. Both of you are too stubborn to say sorry or admit your wrong too.
Watching old Universal monster movies, your favorite is The Bride of Frankenstein. You even got him to dress up at the two monsters with you on Halloween one time.
If your sick he'll drop everything and take care of you, he doesn't care if he catches whatever you have he wants you comfortable and cared for.
His apartment getting the 'girlfriend touch', everything is just cleaner and more organized when you start living with him. “where's my belt?” Mark asked looking all over the bedroom floor where it used to be.
“in your dresser where it's supposed to be... And if I step on it one more time it's going in the trash”
✨Passenger princess✨
If you have a Stanley or a water bottle, whatever you drink out of, Mark will probably be drinking out of it too. You guys kiss and have sex all the time, so he doesn't care if he drinks after you.
NSFW headcanons:
He’s an expert at foreplay. He’ll spend as much time as he can trying to get you hot and bothered or worked up.
He has a tendency to grip the headboard when he's close to cumming.
He has this mischievous kind of charm to him and he uses it to his advantage when it comes to getting your attention. He knows all your ticks and can easily get your riled up.
Mark loves bitting your neck just to hear you moan. When you finally give in to him, he'll lay you down on the couch or bed and start pealing your clothes off to reveal your chest.
He's definitely the dominant person in bed and your not complaining, he'll get rough and pound hard enough were the bed starts rocking.
The sex maybe rough, but Mark isn't not big on insults. He refuses to degrade you and will only use sweet words.
If you’re struggling to take him in or taking long to adjust, he’ll whisper reassurances that you’re doing a good job while rubbing his hands on your back and thighs.
He prefers missionary, growling in your ear while his hands grip yours above your head.
Mark also loves watching your face while you bounce up and down his dick. He loves the expressions you make when he thrusts up into you when you least expect it.
Mark just likes to lay back and just watch you ride him, he loves the feeling of your thighs and ass in his hands.
He's a soft/mean Dom, it just depends on his mood. But no matter what he always makes sure your comfortable. He loves to take control in the bed but would never push you.
He loves the sounds you make. The moaning, the begging, everything.
Loves eating you out,your legs around his head. He loves your legs in general and loves leaving kisses on the insides of your thighs. He'd rather pleasure you for hours than receive.
He has big chocking kink, he won't be too rough about but he loves wrapping his fingers around your neck and feeling your pulse when he's ramming into you.
He love getting head. I feel like he’d like having you on your knees. Plus, feeling your lips around him pushes him closer to cumming in your mouth.
Bondeg kink, handcuffs, his ties, belts, he'll tie you up with anything if your comfortable with it.
There's also a tone of jealous sex. If he sees Alex shamelessly flirting with you expected to be tied to bed as fucks your brains out. If he sees Jackson touch you in a way thats reserved only for him you’re pinned against the wall.
There has been a couple of times Derek has walked in on you while you both are getting it on in one of the on-call rooms, it's safe to day Derek has lernd to knock.
“Mark, he literally saw it” you gasped from under mark.
He kissed your neck. “I was too busy to notice”
This man is amazing when it comes to aftercare. He knows exactly what you need. After your both cleaned up, he'll pull you to his chest to cuddle.

Mm top 5 comfort/vacation reads?
Top five tropes (to write or to read or both!)
comfort reads:
the brothers sinister series by courtney milan! great little romance series, solid sex scenes (the one in the governess affair novella is actually literally to die for), a delightful cast of characters. courtney's books are always solidly rooted in a mix of period detail and thoughtful politics, and i like how everyone likes each other!
kj charles generally but probably specifically think of england and proper english. i love very few things more in life than murder mysteries. i especially love when people initially at odds fall in love during mystery solving. it warms the cockles of my heart.
protector of the small quartet by tamora pierce - all the tortall books are comfort reads to me but this is THEE comfort read for me. i love kel with my entire body! she is precious to me! tall and buff and even-tempered but as stubborn as a mule. she and dom should have kissed!!!
agatha christie - i powered through every single one of her books available at the start of the plague times. i love the poirot books but i think for general consistency miss marple ones are almost always more solid. miss marple herself is a great outsider detective and i think there's few enough books that agatha couldn't grow to be tired of her lmao
i just powered through the goblin emperor books by katherine addison (had read the first but not the next two) and those are great fantasy books! the lingo is admittedly a bit opaque and hard to parse at first, but once you're in you're in, and the stories are really about human decency and kindness (while also providing political machinations (book 1) and murder (2 and 3), which as we all know are very comforting to me lmao)
tropes (this was really hard lmao and is for sure not definitive):
soulbond/mark/etc aus - a well done soulbond au is my jam. my artisanal preserves. the questions it raises about free will and fate? about someone being meant for you? i think there's really fun angles about like, how even relationships with this extra something still aren't going to be easy and smooth. there's also the aspect of like, strong or weak bonds? romantic or platonic (lol)? can you hear inside someone's head? or do you just feel better around them? or do you just have their name or first words to you sitting on your skin? what happens if it's one sided? what happens if it's unrequited? what happens if you're not ready? what happens if one of you wants it more than the other? what if you fall for someone you're not meant to fall for? these themes are SO fun and i love to explore them.
historical or period aus - i love aus, so jot that down, but when an author clearly loves the historical period and has taken time and care? i am there with my spoon. ALSO codes of conduct and manners just create such fun restraints to force characters who would just fuck it out to do other things because they CAN'T just fuck it out due to SCANDAL
slow burn - none of that 7k shit. but like a proper slow burn? a "takes 10k before they physically touch" slow burn? a "we're 50k in and they might actually kiss oh god please let them kiss" slow burn? mmm!!!! mmmMMMMMMMMMM
break up/make up - the thing is. the thing is!!!!! i like when characters have a history. a past. when they were something really important to each other and then that was ruined and now due to fate and or author contrivance they have been tossed together once more. like a salad. and then! the airing of grievances! the bad decision sex! (oh, the bad decision sex). the realization that there are things you know about them that they haven't told anyone else. you were the one who was there. you're the one who knows!!! in some ways you still might know them best! but right now you are worse than strangers because you may never become acquainted! until suddenly perhaps??? unless??????
arranged marriage / woke up married / marriage of convenience - i am combining all of these because the fact is i love when people get married for stupid reasons (or reasons that are not because of their ~heartfelt feelings~) and then they fall in love with the person they married and have big ol' feelings about it. i'm sure this comes as a shock.

Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy: 17X13
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Oh my gosh! Wow! There’s so much to say about this episode. I'm so glad that Meredith woke up and appears to be on the mend. As much as I loved the beach, I am ready for Meredith to rejoin society and the land of the living and get back to doing what she does best! I'm glad that Meredith got closure and that we as fans got closure too not just with Derek but with George as well. The beach wedding scene was perfect and the dialogue throughout was great.
I laughed out loud multiple times and Meredith and Derek’s scenes were both funny and bittersweet. I particularly liked Meredith and Derek's lines about how Meredith hates weddings, but Ellis hates the Post It Note story and wishes they had a big wedding. That she would give her that big wedding if she could. I felt like she was also saying she would give Derek that big wedding if she could. I also loved their conversation about Amelia. Derek told her what she needed to hear. Sometimes losing someone close to you at a young age makes you stronger and sometimes it turns you into Amelia.
Amelia has grown so much, but she spent most of her life a mentally unstable drug and alcohol addicted mess spiralling out of control in large part because she witnessed the brutal murder of her father at the age of five. And that’s not to say that Derek wasn’t just as screwed up by what happened to their Dad. He like Amelia became a neurosurgeon always chasing the high. He stayed in a loveless marriage he hated and when Addison cheated on him with Mark he moved to Seattle where he pretended to be single and pursued a relationship with Meredith.
Even after he and Meredith got together, he lied and cheated and repeated that pattern over and over again. First with Nurse Rose and then with Renee his research fellow in D.C. Derek could be selfish, cruel, hypocritical, and jealous. While Amelia’s scars and trauma were more obvious and blatant Derek was just as affected as she was it just showed up differently. Derek makes it clear he does not want that for Zola, Bailey, and Ellis and after talking to him Meredith realizes that she doesn’t either.
I loved seeing Meredith talk about how well Amelia is doing and Derek saying, “I know!” From the moment Derek on the beach I had a feeling they were going to talk about Amelia and the kids and all of that and I’m glad they did. One of my favourite moments of the episode was when Meredith told Derek that Ellis hates the Post It Note story and wishes they had a big wedding and Derek said, "She gets that from my mother!" I loved that they showed Ellis’ drawing on the fridge when Maggie is talking to Winston on the phone.
I love that Meredith and Derek got their beach wedding like Derek talked about in Season 5 when he made Meredith a bed in front of the fireplace. She went from never wanting to get married to marrying Derek on a Post It Note, getting legally married at the court house so that they could adopt Zola, and then marrying him on the beach in her COVID dream and giving Derek and Ellis the big wedding he always wanted and the one Ellis dreams of. So beautiful. I’m glad that they got closure and that Meredith decided to go back and that she knows Derek will be waiting for her when she’s ready, when it’s her time. When she’s old and senile and smelly just like they promised.
But now is not that time. She has kids to raise. Patients to treat. Sisters, friends, and family that need her. And a certain Irish doctor who would very much like to take her for a drink once she’s feeling better. I loved that Meredith realized through talking to Derek that even though her body was tired her soul was still fighting and that she needed to go back to her life. I loved her scene with Zola when she woke up and said, "We love you so much," meaning both her and Derek. That Mommy and Daddy love her so much and that’s why Meredith came back. She gave up on an afterlife with Derek to be with her children, friends, and family in the real world. That was so beautiful.
I loved Maggie's talk with Zola. I love that she took what Catherine gave her about screaming out your feelings and used it to help Zola who has been through so much express her emotions in a healthy way. I really felt Zola's heartbreak and how much she missed her Mom and Dad. I'm glad that Maggie decided to take Zola to visit Meredith. It was risky, but it paid off. The set department did a great job with Zola’s room. When she’s sitting on her bed crying you can see the photo of Meredith and Derek holding her at her first birthday party. You can also see a sock monkey that she had at the dream house.
The slop of the roof indicates that her room is in the attic. At last we saw it Lexie was living in there and Mark was visiting her while they were sneaking around, and it was an unfinished space with wood panelling. It appears that since that time as her family expanded Meredith had the attic finished and turned into a proper bedroom for Zola. We don’t know how big the attic is so it’s possible that there are more rooms up there or that there are more rooms upstairs than what we’ve seen.
I'm glad that Derek was there for Meredith in her time of need and helped her find the will to fight even though she was exhausted. I'm interested to see what's next for Meredith. If we'll see her being discharged in the coming weeks or if they will do a time jump. Will we see her at home with the kids first or back at work? Will her and Hayes finally have that drink? If so, how soon? I want to know more! I’m excited to see Maggie tell her about her engagement to Winston and see her meet Winston properly and get to know him. I’m also excited for what I’m sure will be an emotional scene when she thanks Amelia and Link for taking care of her kids while she’s been sick.
I’m also expecting some very emotional scenes with Richard and Bailey. I’m interested to see how they will address DeLuca’s death. I’d also like to see Jackson’s reaction when he returns from his most recent quest and finds out that Meredith has woken up and is doing better. I’d also like to see someone notify Cristina, Alex, Arizona, Callie, and April that Meredith is doing better. I can’t wait to see Hayes’ reaction to finding out that Meredith is on the mend! My heart!
Now let us turn our attention to the other shenanigans that were going on at Grey Sloan Memorial this week while Meredith was busying getting closure with Derek and waking up. We saw Teddy back at work trying her best to move forward. I was glad to see that she found a therapist that works for her even though it has to be virtual due to the pandemic. I'm glad that Owen was there for her. She really needs a friend right now and as Owen said previously, he's well placed to be that person. I like that he backed her up, but also pointed out that she would be destroyed if something went wrong with Meredith. That lead to her paging Winston to scrub in with her which I think was the right call.
I think Owen did the right thing by rejecting her kiss but choosing to stay with her and let her cry and breakdown. She needs the support right now and while I’m not usually an Owen fan I think he did a good job supporting her this episode. I also really felt for him when he lost a patient he thought they were going to be able to discharge and struggled to tell the family. As he says to Teddy, they did this all the time during the way, but this is different. They are losing patients on a level that they’ve never experienced before, and they can’t even take a moment to catch their breath because they have more patients to treat and pronounce.
My heart breaks for the real life doctors and nurses who are dealing with stuff on a daily basis. It’s so hard. On a lighter note, I really loved Amelia and Link's patient storyline this week. It was funny and interesting, and it was great to see Amelia back in the OR. While it was wrong of Amelia to steal Link’s patient and I think she did overstep I understand why she was so eager to get back into the OR and she was right about what was wrong with the guy.
I understood Link’s anger and frustration, but I also appreciated that he understood Amelia and was there to support her and build her up. I like that he brought in Tom and had him on standby, but also showed complete confidence in Amelia. His line about how Amelia always likes to raise the stakes was hilarious and accurate. Another scene I loved was when Amelia and Link were leaving the hospital and Link thought she was using sexual innuendo and then she clarified that she needed to get home because her boobs felt like they were going to burst, and she needed to either pump or breastfeed. That one cracked me up!
We also saw some amazing acting by Caterina Scorsone when upon arriving home and finding Link’s parents looking after Bailey and Ellis, they rushed to the hospital thinking something was wrong with Meredith. Amelia was riding high from the surgery that day and when she thought Meredith had gotten worse, she panicked only to realize that Meredith’s condition hadn’t changed. Her sobbing and desperation as she said over and over again that she really needed Meredith to live were gut wrenching. Caterina did an amazing job.
I also really liked Bailey and Levi’s patient storyline. The peanut butter brittle woman who took up roller skating was the best! She was funny and helped Bailey see that you need to rest and also follow your joy. The scenes where the woman gave Levi the brittle and then he was smelling it made me laugh! As a result of treating that patient Bailey decided to reverse her earlier decision and let Jo switch specialities. While I’m not on board with that storyline I'm glad that Bailey decided to support Jo in following her joy. Making someone stay in a role they don't like will only make them resent you and make everyone involved unhappy.
That being said, I hate this career switching storyline. It’s so dumb. I've realized with this episode that my opinion on this storyline isn't ever going to change. If they use it as a segue for Jo adopting Luna that could be interesting, but watching Jo leave general surgery behind and re-specialize in OBGYN so she can stand on the sidelines while all the other characters do ground breaking work and cool procedures just seems dumb to me. I am not invested in this storyline at all.
Levi and Jo have great comedic timing which was on full display in this episode. Jackson was MIA this episode because he went roaring off on another one of his quests leaving the person he’s dating in the lurch and telling them about it after the fact. He took a leave of absence from work and then left Maggie a voicemail back in Season 15 telling her he needed some time to think and then went camping in the woods to look at trees which lead to him talking to April and texting a woman he met on this trip behind Maggie’s back. He then left her in the fog on a dark road in an area with bears at the end of Season 15.
Now he’s left Jo to go on an unknown quest that’s 11 hours away. When did Jackson become the guy that just vanishes at random to go do whatever the heck he wants? I was surprised that Nico asked Levi to move in with him at the end of the episode. That was not at all the answer that Levi was expecting so I understand why he ran off and said he promised Jo he'd do a movie night with her. Levi wanted to move in with Nico last season and Nico didn't want that, but instead of just saying that outright he dodged the topic and was a real jerk about it. That resulted in them breaking up and Levi moving in with Jo.
They only got back together because of the pandemic and in the intervening time Levi has grown as a person and no longer wants that kind of a relationship with Nico. When he told him that him leaving his bathroom bag at his place didn't mean he was going to move in with him he was being sincere. He just didn't want to have to keep carting his toothbrush back and forth all the time. In response Nico realized he's always running away from what scares him and pushing people away when they get too close and he wants to fix that, so he asked Levi to move in with him.
Therein lies their problem. They're never on the same page. When Levi wanted to move forward and take that next step Nico didn't want to. Now that Nico wants to move forward and take the next step Levi is no longer interested. What a dilemma. I also noticed that Jo and Levi had very similar outfits at the beginning of this episode. You know you’re becoming good friends with someone when you start unconsciously matching outfits.
Onto the next episode’s promo! We see Jackson driving in the rain, showing up on someone’s doorstep talking to himself about how his appearance might seem impulsive, but he has thought it through. The door opens to reveal April who is holding Harriet in between clips of his and April’s relationship. I have a few theories about this. First off, I think they are faking us out. If there was trouble in paradise and things weren’t going well with April and Matthew, they wouldn’t have had Jackson make a comment in the first half of the season about how Matthew is spending more time with Harriet then he and April are because they are taking more COVID shifts.
April is a deeply religious Christian woman whose faith is really important to her. She was vehemently opposed to getting a divorce even though her relationship with Jackson was clearly over because of her faith. Marriage is not something she takes lightly so I have a hard time seeing her divorce Matthew out of the blue because Jackson shows back up and is in crisis when her and Matthew have been together for the past three seasons and have been married for two.
Also, they are raising two children together and co-parenting one of those kids with Jackson. A lot of court services were shut down in the first few months of the pandemic for safety reasons which made it difficult to get a divorce and this episode takes place in June of 2020. So even if April and Matthew split up they couldn’t legally get a divorce very easily at this time and if April and Jackson got back together they would still have to interact with Matthew on a regular basis because they are co-parenting kids together and there’s no way that April would walk away from Ruby.
The only way I could see April and Jackson getting back together is if Matthew has died or fallen ill somehow. Otherwise I just don’t see it. I think they’re faking us out. I think the clips in the promo are there to entice japril fans and play into that because logistically I don’t see how a storyline in which April and Matthew suddenly divorce and April and Jackson get back together in one episode is possible.
Until next time!

Grey’s Anatomy Prompts
I’m going a tad stir crazy, so I decided to make a prompt list of 80 Grey’s quotes I love. This may have been done before but I don’t care. It’s mostly angsty prompts and it’s long as hell. (Break at 15)
Tumblr media
1 “When I met you, I thought I had found the person that I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I was done. So all the boys, and all the bars, and all the obvious daddy issues, who cared? Because I was done. You left me. You chose Addison. I’m all glued back together now. I make no apologies for how I chose to repair what you broke.” —Meredith Grey
2 “Don’t let what he wants eclipse what you need. He’s very dreamy, but he is not the sun—you are.” —Cristina Yang
3 “Your choice, it’s simple: her or me? And I’m sure she’s really great. But I love you. In a really, really big pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window, unfortunate way that makes me hate you, love you. So pick me, choose me, love me.” —Meredith Grey
4 “If you love someone, you tell them. Even if you’re scared that it’s not the right thing. Even if you’re scared that it’ll cause problems. Even if you’re scared that it will burn your life to the ground, you say it, and you say it loud and you go from there.” —Mark Sloan
5 “It always feels like there is just one person in this world to love. And then you find somebody else, and it just seems crazy that you were ever worried in the first place.” —Lexie Grey
6 “Don’t let fear keep you quiet. You have a voice, so use it. Speak up. Raise your hands. Shout your answers. Make yourself heard. Whatever it takes, just find your voice, and when you do, fill the damn silence.” —Meredith Grey

8 “Breakthroughs don’t happen because of the medicine. Real breakthroughs happen because someone is scared to death to stop trying.” —Derek Shepherd

10 “And if you can't do it, if you aren't willing to keep looking for light in the darkest of places without stopping, even when it seems impossible, you will never succeed.” —Amelia Shepard

14 “It's good to be scared. It means you still have something to lose.” — Richard Webber
15 “You are my person. You will always be my person.” — Christina Yang
16 “It doesn't matter how tough we are. Trauma always leaves a scar. It follows us home, it changes our lives. Trauma messes everybody up. But maybe that's the point. All the pain and the fear and the crap. Maybe going through all that is what keeps us moving forward. It's what pushes us. Maybe we have to get a little messed up, before we can step up.” — Alex Karev
17 “Please, don't chase me anymore, unless you're ready to catch me.” — Callie Torres
18 “Change … we don’t like it, we fear it. But we can’t stop it from coming. We either adapt to change, or we get left behind. It hurts to grow. Anybody who tells you it doesn’t, is lying. But here’s the truth: Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh, sometimes, change is good. Sometimes, change is … everything.” — Meredith Grey

Love and Academia Ch. 4 - First Impressions and Freak Outs
Tumblr media
Pairing: AU Professor!Bucky x OFC
Warnings: Swearing, smut, NSFW/18+ only, mentions of death/violence/suicide
Author’s note: We finally get to see how Emily reacts to seeing Bucky again! Scandalous!
And as always, I do not currently have a beta reader so please excuse any larger issues. it’s just little ol’ me!
***
“Hey Doc, did you want your books packed alphabetically by author or by subject?” Emily yelled, looking at the numerous shelves of books. Leave it to Dr. Erskine to wait until the last minute to pack thirty years’ worth of stuff.
When Emily didn’t hear a response, she huffed and began to take books down from the shelves. “Subject it is,” she said to herself, separate the books. She was in the process of deciding whether The Psychology of Scientific Research would go under self-help or hard science when her phone chimed. Shrugging, she threw the book in the self-help pile and grabbed her phone from Dr. Erskine’s messy desk.
Natasha:
Ready to talk about what happened?
Every day for the past week Natasha had sent her the same text and every day she had ignored it. She had shown up to Emily’s apartment the morning after their night out with a giant iced mocha and blueberry muffins insisting that she talk about it. Emily couldn’t blame Natasha for being so concerned. Even though she kept trying to forget what had happened, the night continued to play over and over in her head.
Emily had stayed in the dark alley for probably longer than she should have. The pulsing music from inside of the bar like a faint and distant heartbeat as she leaned against the cold brick and tried not to cry. She took deep breaths, but it was no use. The more she tried to calm herself down, the more her eyes began to sting, and her breathing picked up speed. Finally, she pushed herself off of the wall and reentered the bar. Emily pushed through the crowd until she spotted a flaming head of red hair in a distant corner. Natasha sat atop Steve’s lap, whispering something into his ear that made him look excited and horrified all at the same time. Emily all but ran to her, feeling herself quickly losing her cool. When Natasha noticed her friend approaching, she looked at her with a mask of confusion.
“Babe, what are you still doing here? I thought you left with—”
“I need my stuff,” Emily said, looking anywhere but at the happy couple in front of her. Natasha stood from Steve’s lap and pulled Emily’s things from her back pocket. Steve stood too, looking at her with the same concerned face as Natasha.
“Is everything alright?” she asked, handing Emily her things. Emily quickly pulled up the Uber app and busied herself with it.
“Yea…well no. I’m going home,” she admitted, feeling tears begin to well.
“What happened honey?” Nat placed a hand on Emily’s shoulder, but she shrugged her off, knowing that any kind of comfort would cause her to break down. She was not going to sob in the middle of a bar. She absolutely refused.
“Nothing. I’m just going home.”
“Do you want me to go with you?”
Emily’s head shot up, looking at her best friend fully for the first time. She looked worried and scared and Emily realized that she was making things seem much worse than they actually were, “No, no, you stay here—" she forced a smile on her face, “—It’s just been a lot today. I need to go home. But you stay, let the hunky farm boy take you home.” She shot Natasha a teasing wink but could see from the look on her face that she didn’t really believe her. Yet, Natasha didn’t press anymore. She merely nodded and told Emily to let her know when she got home safely. Emily agreed and waved Natasha and Steve a goodbye before exiting the bar and standing on the street corner as she waited for Mark, her driver, to get there.
It wasn’t until she locked the door to her apartment behind her and saw the empty spaces where Clint’s stuff used to be and the key left on the kitchen counter, that Emily sunk to the floor and cried.
So, instead of fessing up to what was probably the most embarrassing moment of her life, Emily said that she didn’t want to talk about it and eventually was able to change the subject to how things had gone with Steve. Apparently, Steve was from Minnesota, but most of his family now lived in and around Pocatello. He did not call his mom or grandma every Sunday, but that was because he went with them to Church. Truthfully, she had never seen Natasha so excited over a guy before. It surprised her to find out that they hadn’t slept together that night. It surprised her even more when Natasha confessed that she didn’t mind – no one, man or woman, had ever bothered to get to know her outside of a sexual manner.
Shaking her head, Emily closed the text message and opened up her music. If she was going to do this job by herself then she was going to do it with a bit of music. Finding something punky and upbeat, she pressed play and turned up the volume. She bobbed her head to the heavy drum beat and bounced slightly from foot to foot as she continued to pull books from the shelves. She let the music take up space in her mind as she worked, hoping it would keep her from thinking. Unfortunately, just like every other moment for the past week, Emily couldn’t stop thinking about that last Friday. God, she was such an idiot. She hadn’t been good enough for Clint to not cheat on and apparently, she hadn’t even been good enough for a complete stranger to have sex with, in an alley. What was wrong with her? Why was she not good enough? What happened with Bucky was so completely out of character for her. Never in her life, through everything, had she ever wanted to be anyone but herself. Then, she has one failed relationship and all of a sudden, she felt the need to try and be someone else? Maybe she was just desperate to connect with someone after finding out about Clint and Sharon. They dated for two years, they lived together, and then he just cheats in their bed? She should be upset about that. She should want to fly off the handle and have sex that means nothing with a stranger in an alley to feel wanted, right?
Taking a deep breath, she willed herself to think of happy things. Like the fact that dinner at the Erskine’s that past Sunday had been nice. How they had told her all about their plans to travel the Pacific North West and see some of their extended family. She also had working with her idol to look forward to. Dr. Erskine hadn’t mentioned what day Dr. Barnes was due to show up, but as classes started Monday and it was Thursday, she imagined he’d be there to set up his office soon. She had taken the time this past week, while trying to distract herself, to compose a list of all the questions she wanted to ask him. The questions ranged from life/career questions to specific research methods from a few of his papers and she was stoked to get the chance to ask them. A particularly favorite song of Emily’s started to play from her phone, and she smiled, tossing a book in the history pile as she got into it.
“So, you were born in an electrical storm. Took a bite out the sun and saw your future in a machine built for two!” she sang loudly, shaking her hips and whipping her hair back and forth.
“Um, excuse me. I think this is my office,” a voice called over the music, startling Emily in the middle of what she thought to be a private moment. She scrambled for her phone and turned the music off before looking to the doorway and feeling her stomach drop all the way through her lower abdomen and out of her body. In the doorway looking, if at all possible, even more handsome than she remembered, stood Bucky. What the hell was he doing here?
“What the hell are you doing here?” Bucky asked. Apparently, he and Emily had the same thought process. Except, he was asking the right questions while she was busy doing her best impression of a fish out of water.
“Seriously, what are you doing here?” Bucky stalked towards her; his height even more apparent now that she was in her usual pair of sneakers instead of sky-high heels. Emily tipped her head back to look at him as he continued to talk, eyes frantic and wild, “Look, I don’t know how you found out where I work, but you need to leave.” He grasped her upper arm and attempted to lead her towards the door.
“Back off man—" Emily pulled her arm from his grasp and walked back to the desk to grab her phone, “—I work here you crazy.”
“What? That can’t be right!”
Emily picked up her phone, opening the keypad, “Listen man, I’ve been here for three years and there are plenty of professors that would vouch for that. I doubt they could say the same for you, so give me one good reason why I shouldn’t call campus security on you.”
They stared at each other, Emily’s heart beating out of her chest. Pride filled her at her ability to think so quickly on her feet in a tense situation. When Bucky didn’t answer, she began to type in the number.
“Ah, Emily, Dr. Barnes, I see you’ve already started introductions without me,” Dr. Erskine announced as he entered the office. Oh no. No. This could not be happening. “Sorry, I wasn’t here to introduce you two, but you know how Dr. Addison gets. She wanted to give me all types of travel advice. Took forever to get away. Now, Emily this is Dr. James Barnes and James this is Emily—”
“Colvert. Emily Colvert, my graduate student,” Bucky, or Dr. Barnes now, finished for him, his eyes boring into Emily as he finally put all the pieces together. While Dr. Barnes appeared to be fitting the last pieces into place, Emily was dying on the inside.
“Yes, and your teaching assistant for the year as well. You’re very lucky, she’s one of the best in the department,” Dr. Erskine stated matter of factly. Emily smiled tensely at his compliment and ran her fingers through her hair. Dr. Barnes hadn’t stopped staring at her since he’d entered the office and it was beginning to freak her out.
“Well, Dr. Barnes, I apologize for the office not being ready yet. Turns out a lifetime career of things is a lot harder to move than I originally thought,” Dr. Erskine laughed, “Had to call in reinforcements to help.” He motioned to Emily and she forced a laugh at his attempt at a joke.
“Oh, don’t worry about it, Dr. Erskine. I just came by to finish up some paperwork at Human Resources and I thought I’d check out the workspace first. And please, call me Bucky,” Dr. Barnes said, finally looking away from Emily. She let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.
“Of course, Bucky. Feel free to call me Abraham. You know, since you’re here, why don’t we all grab some lunch?” the older man suggested. “It’ll be a great opportunity for us to discuss the position and Emily’s research.” Dr. Erskine gave her a wink, clearly under the impression that he was doing her a favor. If only he knew how wrong, he was.
“Oh, I couldn’t intrude. I don’t want to interrupt the work you’re doin—”
“No, no intrusion at all, it’ll be fun. I know a great Mexican place just five minutes away.”
“Well, alright, it would be nice to ask you some questions about the university,” said Dr. Barnes.
“Perfect! El Herradero it is!” Dr. Erskine slapped a hand on Dr. Barnes’ back and started to exit the office before he turned back around to face Emily, “Coming Marty?”
“Yea, Doc. Right behind you.”
It was a long and awkward five minutes to El Herradero. Dr. Erskine continued to chit chat away, completely oblivious to the thick haze of tension present. His constant talking was only interrupted by the occasional response from Dr. Barnes. Doctor James Freaking Barnes. You’ve got to be freaking kidding me! Emily wanted to scream. She wanted to run. She wanted the ground to open up and swallow her whole! But instead she sat quietly in the back seat, freaking out internally. This could not be happening. She had almost slept with not only her new advisor, but her academic idol. She had no idea what this was going to mean for her future. Would he still agree to take her on as a graduate student? Or would she be left to fend for herself among the other professors? What if word got out and she was socially shunned from every ecological convention in the country? She’d never get her PhD. She’d never get a collegiate teaching position. She’d end up teaching science to a bunch of middle schoolers that just wanted to know where farts came from. Worst of all, she wouldn’t be able to answer that. She wasn’t that kind of scientist!
“Marty.” Dr. Erskine waved a hand in front of Emily’s face, bringing her from her spiraling thoughts.
“Sorry, I was just thinking. What did you say?”
“I was just telling Dr. Barnes here how you based your thesis on his work. Are you alright? You’re usually very present.” Dr. Erskine assessed her with a shrewd expression. Why on earth would he say that? The day just kept getting worse and worse.
“I’m fine, it’s just been a crazy week. You know, classes are starting soon, and I’ve got to format the last of my data and start drafting an outline for my thesis,” she lied and looked down at her menu even though she knew she’d get the same thing she always got – chicken enchiladas.
“Ahhh of course. Emily here is one of our hardest workers in the department. I’d say you’ll find her in the building more often than not,” Dr. Erskine bragged, and Emily couldn’t help but feel a tad embarrassed. The whole thing felt similar to when a parent won’t stop bragging about you to a stranger that’s clearly uninterested. Emily could feel her face begin to heat up and bit the inside of her lower lip.
“Really?” said Dr. Barnes a heavy layer of surprise in his voice. While it might have seemed innocent enough to anyone else, Emily couldn’t help but feel insulted that he would be surprised at her abilities. Was it because she was a woman? Or was it because he had his mouth wrapped around her nipple less than a week ago? Her face turned pink at the thought. Her mind began to spiral again. Was he surprised because he thought she had known who he was that night? Did he think that she had purposefully tried to sleep with him to gain some upper hand? The thought made her skin crawl. Emily Colvert was a lot of things, but she most certainly was not a woman who slept her way to the top.
“Well, while she’s incredibly bright, it takes much more than brain power to accomplish what she has. Why don’t you tell Dr. Barnes, sorry, Bucky, a bit about your research? I’m sure he’d be very interested to know more,” Dr. Erskine raised his eyebrows at her, his way of communicating that now was her chance to impress the man she hadn’t shut up about for three years.
Emily cleared her throat and sat up straighter. If Dr. Barnes did think that she was incompetent, then she needed to prove him wrong. “Well, the origin of my studies is quite simple actually. Large populations of whitebark pine, pinus albicaulis, are dying in Northern Idaho and no one knows why. Certainly, the common threats to the species are present: wildfires, pathogens such as Cronartium ribicola, you might know it as white pine blister rust, and the mountain pine beetle Dendroctonus ponderosae. Wildfires tend to really only affect the southern regions; my focus is on the northern regions where the death rate is significantly higher than in past years. It appears that the number of trees infected with blister rust has nearly tripled in the last five years. The same can be said about the pine beetle. No one has looked into what has caused these two threats to increase in the location. My hypothesis is that it’s due to climate change. Longer, warmer summers and shorter, wetter winters has made it possible for each to thrive in the areas where whitebark pine are most prevalent.” During her whole explanation, she felt the nerves leave her body and her confidence return. By the end, Emily was looking Dr. Barnes in the eyes.
“That’s where you research comes in of course,” Dr. Erskine added. “Your work on the linkages between climate change and the dynamic aspects of large-scale forest extinctions in North American climates, was very enlightening for Miss Colvert.”
Dr. Barnes brought a hand up to his chin and rubbed at the stubble there as he stared at her. The expression on his face made her feel a bit smug. He was clearly impressed. However, her smugness was short lived when a few seconds later a flash of light caught her eye and drew her attention to his hand. His left hand to be exact. There, where it most definitely had not been before, was a wedding ring.
“Are you going to tell me why I had to fake an emergency call this afternoon or are you going to just continue to pace back and forth?” Natasha asked from her place on the couch.
When Emily had seen the ring on Dr. Barnes’ hand, she immediately texted Natasha from under the table to call pretending to have some kind of emergency. Lucky for her, Natasha had gotten the message right away and a few seconds later she was out the door of the restaurant with a few apologies before someone even came to take their order. Emily stopped her pacing and picked up the bottle of wine from the coffee table. She took a second to ponder the thought of pouring it into one of the glasses in front of her, before chugging straight from the bottle.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Nat said, getting up from the couch and tearing the bottle out of Emily’s hand, “I’m just going to keep this.”
“I almost slept with my advisor!” Emily blurted the words out, unable to keep them in anymore.
“Gross, isn’t he like a billion years old? I mean, we’ve all got daddy issues to a certain extent but that’s…”
“No, not Dr. Erskine! Dr. Barnes!”
“Who’s Dr. Barnes?” asked Natasha.
Then it dawned on her. In the crazy whirlwind of her Clint dilemma, Emily never told Natasha about Dr. Erskine retiring. Taking a deep breath, Emily ran her fingers through her hair and decided to start from the beginning. By the time she had finished, Emily plopped herself down onto the couch beside Natasha.
“So, let me just make sure I’ve got this right. Your current advisor is retiring and being replaced by the Justin Timberlake of ecology who also happens to be the incredibly hot guy you hooked up with the other night at the bar and to top it all off he’s also married?”
“Yup.”
“Fuck—" Natasha took a deep swig of wine from the bottle and handed it over to Emily “—I think you need this more than I do.”
Emily took a sip as she nodded, staring in the deep abyss where Clint’s TV used to be. Now it was just an empty entertainment center. The longer she sat there, the more anger began to bubble up inside her. Who did this guy think he was? He was a married man and he’d made her the other woman!
“What are you going to do?” asked Natasha, voice cutting through the muffled haze the wine created.
“I have no clue.”

Haunted Past 06 | Thomas Hunt x Kate Anderson
Tumblr media
Pairings: Thomas Hunt x MC(Kate Anderson) , Ethan Blake x Addison Sinclair
Word count: 900+
Summary: Something has Kate on edge, and Thomas finds out after class.
A/N: Happy New Year!!!!! and I have school today TT Let the angst commence! hahaha I’m feeling evil and productive lol. Hope y’all can handle the angst that’s boutta come and don’t worry because it’s gonna be short! Alas enjoy luvs ^^
-
School break was up and they had to wake up earlier than usual. Kate as usual had her grumpy fit when Thomas had tried to wake her up. Why was it so awfully hard to wake this little brat? he thought to himself, maybe that’s why she’s so peppy for the rest of the day he concluded.
“Five more minutes~” she pleaded with him.
“That’s what you said ten minutes ago.” He spanked her and she yelped “Eek!” and buried her head deeper in her pillow.
“Wake up before I deduct your marks when you eventually arrive late in class.” She was squirming even more before stopping to finally sit up and look at him.
“Fine~ Daddd~” she made a whiny sound and rubbed her eyes, he patted her hair and kissed her forehead
“Good girl. Now join me for a bath.” she smirked
“Okayy Daddy~~” she wiggled her eyebrows and got up before something strong pulled her back to bed with him
“Keep that up and we’ll both miss school.” he scolded her
“But you’d like that wouldn’t you.” She teased further and bit her lip provocatively
“That’s it, get in the shower now!” he growled and practically dragged a squealing but very wet Kate into the bathroom.
-
Addison, Kate and Ethan went to the café to get their usual coffee and breakfast.
“Oh my gosh, you will not believe what I saw the other day!” Addi started her morning rambles as we went in the café.
As soon as they stepped in, everyone was whispering under their breaths, “Oh-em-gee isn’t that Kate?” “I heard she’s dating Professor Hunt.”  “Oh my god, did you know that she slept with the Professor to get privileges?” “Really??? wow what a slut.”
Blushing under everyone’s gaze and biting back tears, Kate hurried to the counter to make her order.
“Kate, are you okay?” Ethan looked concerned as everyone was still speaking in hushed whispers about her.
“I’m fine, this will go away soon enough.” Her voice cracked slightly, Ethan nodded and Addi smiled sadly at her.
-
Kate arrived late to Thomas’s class like he had predicted.
“Miss Anderson, so nice of you to finally join us.” he made a remark as she went to her seat.
But she didn’t talk back this time, nor did she even flash him her usual glare. She just nodded sullenly and sat down quietly.
He, of course immediately knew something was wrong, and he made a mental note to make sure she was okay after class.
After the class, Thomas had asked to see her.
“Won’t people get suspicious and stuff?” Kate stated worriedly, she wasn’t going to let herself be bothered with people’s gossip, but she didn’t want to give people a reason to have something to gossip about them anyways.
“They already know about our relationship and besides, I don’t care about what they say.” He lifted his hand to stroke her cheek. She bit her lip and nodded.
“But you look bothered, come to my office, let me help.” He offered as he put the last of his things into his briefcase.
“It’s fine, I don’t want to worry you or anything.” She tried to not make a big deal about it. Although, she found it really sweet that he cared.
“Nonsense. You are clearly on edge about something and I want to help.” he held her hand in his.
“Come.” they both walked to their office which was not that far from class.
-
“Have a seat.” He offered a chair for her and sat on his own large plush office chair.
“Thank you Thomas.”
“What wrong Kate? You’ve been distracted throughout my class and I want to help.” He asked, voice soft and with genuine concern.
“I just… worry about what other people keep saying you know, that I-“ she shuddered before continuing, “-slept with you to get my grades bumped.”
She was shocked as he suddenly slammed his fists on the table.
“Who said that.” His face was turning red, how fucking dare they he thought.
“I mean… kids on campus have been throwing it around an-and-.” Her voice suddenly cracking, lower and more timid than before.
“Kate, do not listen to them. We both know that it isn’t true and the people who spout this nonsense are ignorant fools that have nothing to do with their lives.”
She couldn’t control herself now, tears were spilling before she had a chance to wipe them away.
“No no no I’m sorry… don’t cry…” Thomas made his way over to her and pulled her into his embrace.
“No…*sniff* I’m sorry… I’m just so…insecure...” His heart broke as he held her in his arms and brought his hands up to cup her face.
“You shouldn’t be my dear.” He kissed her softly, good god, he would steal a million stars for her if it were to make her happy.
“But I am… I shouldn’t let these things get to me but they always do.” She was now crying louder and hugging him tightly as if her life had depended on it.
“It’s not your fault love.” He wiped a tear from her cheek and kissed her tenderly again.
“Tell me, what can I do to make you feel better?” His eyes were searching hers.
“Show me you love me Thomas.” Her eyes met his, his name falling out of her lips like a desperate plea and they both knew what was to come as their lips came crashing to each other.

☕️ love triangles
Back in high school, I read a book at the recommendation of a close friend that I thought handled a situation like this well. All the characters are adults, and I never felt like it was leaning into any of the stupid tropes I hated on TV.
Shortly after this I gave that friend a chapter of something I was working on--a piece that did involve a love triangle--and she told me I’d get the reference now, the third point of the triangle (a “new” character as opposed to my female character’s ex/high school sweetheart) reminded her of, likewise, the third point of the triangle in the book (the character the lead does not end up with). And in writing that triangle and a later one I worked on, I realized the problem I was having every time I tried to write a triangle: my absolute BIGGEST problem with triangles (other than that they exist at all...) is that, pretty much ALWAYS, the third point of the triangle is written as (a) shitty all along to the point we as an audience are like omg why is he/she with him/her--he’s an abusive asshole/she’s a manipulative shrew! or (b) a good and decent man / an understanding and patient woman who suddenly has to go massively OOC for the triangle to resolve in such a way that we’re rooting for our main couple; the third point can’t be a sympathetic character because otherwise we’ll feel bad for them and feel like our leads are terrible people. (There’s also option c like OTH went with, the third point just backing down because they realize A and B will always be in love, but I feel like I don’t see that as much.)
So basically every time I was writing a triangle I was making the third point a great guy... to the point that I literally didn’t want to write the rest of the story. (Neither of those went anywhere, for the record, but keep in mind I was also a busy high school student.) I didn’t want to suddenly make these guys assholes, but nor did I want to write a story that would involve breaking their heart because my main couple had to get together for, idk, reasons?
And that’s really where triangles lose me. They’re barely ever compelling. They  break down in one of those two ways. Or when you have a half-decent one (like Meredith/Derek/Addison), there will be great points and then there will be points where they make Addison really nasty and petty, and sure, maybe that’s real life, but it makes it hard to like Addison. And as I’ve gotten older and have started to face writing characters who are moving into new relationships, I’ve tried to keep the things I hate in mind. Characters like Kelsey are mean and spiteful because Kelsey was always mean and spiteful, not because I suddenly need her to be terrible so you and I feel better with Mark and Eva getting together. Characters like Max and Amy have found the balance of loving each other as friends and supporting each other’s new relationships because that is what adults can and should do. While Michael Sheen is no longer with Sarah Silverman, the example I always point to is that Kate Beckinsale (Michael’s ex) always interacted positively with them and Kate talked about the love between all of them as hey, Sarah is in my daughter’s life and we want to model a positive relationship for her. Not everything has to be acrimony even if pop culture teaches us it does.
I’m even starting to get tired of ~triangles where it’s clear one part of the triangle probably isn’t going to happen again (Stumptown is currently doing this; Grey and Dex have been romantic in the past but decided long ago they work better as friends) but where instead the newest player in the triangle (Miles, in Stumptown’s case) resents the closeness the other two have as friends. Again, is it a human dynamic, sure, but I just wish media would recognize that adults can have healthy relationships with good communication and it doesn’t have to be boring. There doesn’t have to be resentment over stupid stuff. There can just be love. That’s what I’m trying to bear in mind as I go forward as a writer.

Smaller
(Universe by @linkeduniverse)
A/N Apologies for the delay, I didn't want to take this long, but I couldn't manage to write it until today.
Sequel to Small
Summary: Addison shows them around the small village of the Picori. Looking up towards the tree high above them, they all feel smaller than they've ever done before.
Also, the Picori's marketplace is simply irresistible.
______<<______
After a short pause where everyone just enjoys the drinks and the food, the small Picori stands up and smiles at them. They open the door of their home. “Done with your snack? Then let's go exploring.”
_______>_______
They've been walking around the village for quite some time now, meeting and visiting other Picori who are just as friendly as Addison is.
As they stroll around a rather open and deserted place next, the Links can't help but notice; while this piece of land was actually quite small when they themselves were big, it now expands beyond their field of vision. It almost feels like they've entered a new Hyrule. The occasional ladybug that passes by and the size of a tree leave in comparison to their body. It makes them realize just how tiny they are and how short their legs are at their current height.
Legend swivels his head away from a giant tulip he was looking at and towards Addison who is almost running just a bit ahead of them. Their feather swishes back and forth with the tapping of their feet.
“Not to be rude or anything, but who exactly are the Picori? Because Four kind of just dragged us here without any explanation whatsoever and then just dumped us in front of your door. Also, slow down a bit, will you?” Legend takes a few quick steps forward to where Addison is walking at still quite a quick pace.
“Ah, apologies, sorry. I'm just really excited about all this! Travellers in our town! I know that Four was here a few years back and we also caught glimpses of you and Hyrule centuries back, but having travellers arrive here just for the sake of visiting? That's something new,” the mouse-like Minish smiles at him.
"Now, to answer your question; back, way back in ancient times when one of the first heroes began their journey, one of our elders decided that it was time to help him. We've seen it time and time again how the first heroes were so incredibly close to failing," Addison gestures with their small hands, as they talk and tell their story, "because they weren't powerful enough on their own. How could they be? All they had was a normal shield, a normal sword and a piece of the triforce that hadn't even reached its full potential then. And they went to battle like that. Against an enemy that had more experience, more raw force and power. It was a truly impossible feat."
Four thinks back to the power he felt surge through him when he pulled the Four Sword. The Picori did indeed help him out, not only in the power department, no. Nights spend at a Picori's house come to mind. Memories of kind Minish like Addison, and Jin from the castle plaza, and the unknown Picori from the pond village drift through his brain. Days spent being nursed back to health. Nurtured wounds, bandaged cuts are remembered. He's truly grateful for what they've done for him. He shakes his head, gently pushing all those thoughts and memories away for now.
They stop at a market place, not far from their house. Stalls and pieces of ripped cloth are spread along and across the middle of the plaza, each offering various trinkets and treasures.
Wild and Hyrule interrupt Addison's monologue, as they suddenly split from the group. Four gives them an apologetic smile, but the Minish just waves their hand and shakes their head.
"It's okay. It's hard to resist our marketplace, they have a lot to over. While those two go over travelling equipment, I would like to show Legend something that might interest him. Come tag along," Addison says, glancing towards Legend's faded streaks of pink hair.
____
Meanwhile, Wild and Hyrule run over to a stand that presents oil lamps in seemingly infinite forms and sizes. There are round plumb ones with intricate designs cut into the metal that are impractical to hold or attach to their belts, probably meant for house decoration instead. Impossibly tall and slim ones make them wonder if a flame has even enough space inside there to live and grow strong. They look over the collection of lamps, eyes sparkling with wonder and excitement. It makes their traveller hearts sing.
Then, both of their gazes are pulled towards a model that's painted red with a simple rounded handle. It's love at first sight. For both of them, Wild and Hyrule. They exchange a few looks, silently arguing who of them should take it. Each of them insists that the other’s old lamp is about to break down and they desperately need a new one and should just take it. But no, yours is just as bad. Don't worry about it, you take it. No, no, you take it.
They peer at the lamp with sad and conflicted eyes. They really want their best friend to have it, they can make do with their old one. It's fine.
“Ugh, enough. You're taking way too long.” Legend rolls his eyes at their good-hearted souls. He and Addison just came back from a stall two places over that was selling bloo berry pastries which they got five of. Oh, how Four has missed those local specialties. One place further, there had been a Picori with a sack full of rare stones with magical properties. As Addison had predicted, Legend did indeed get very interested in those and even bought some. A few of them can dye hair permanently. Very practical. Addison and Four hide a smile.
“I'm done with your looks and nods at each other. You two look like kicked puppies whose favourite toy got ripped apart." Those said puppies turn their heads towards Legend, who now has to endure the devastation shimmering behind their eyes. Ugh, it's just a lamp. Four can't help but grin.
Legend's gaze drifts over to the table in the search of something that could solve this problem. Maybe a lamp that was similar in size and shape. The colour seems to be the most important. Theirs is one of the few that are a true vibrant red. It does have some scratch and aging marks, though. Knowing them they probably love it for exactly those imperfections. Legend sighs. At what point did he turn into their babysitter?
Not seeing anything, he lets his eyes wander some more until they stop at a particularly ugly lamp. With a twisted and bent arm, a body full of big dents and deep scratches all over, it is one of the more unappealing ones. The chipped rust red colour of it doesn't help at all. Ignoring all the cosmetic aspects of it, it seems to be functional with quite a large tank for fuel and a large glass window, protecting the flame that's going to burn inside. Legend bets his whole rupee sack that Hyrule's gonna love it.
Hyrule's and Wild's silent conversation has eventually evolved into a persistent mutter that slowly infiltrates Legend's ear drums until it reaches his brain, making it vibrate with the whispered rumbling of their voices.
"For sanity's sake, shut up!", Legend cries out, thrusting out his left hand. "There. Just take it. Problem solved. Let's get a fucking move on."
The pair stares at the ugly looking lamp, before they simultaneously break out into happy grins, more on the manic side if looked at too closely, to be honest.
"Thanks, Legend, it's perfect!", Hyrule shouts with glee, taking the sad lamp from his hands and skipping over to the Minish selling them all. Wild shoots him a grateful smile, then joins his friend to pay for their goods.
_____
"Now, as I was saying," Addison begins, reconnecting to the previous part of their exposition, "the Eldest at that time decided that the time had come for us to help and so we got together and formed what most… yum...would simply call the 'Picori Blade'...yum…"
Confused by the added sound effects, the Links look over to where Addison is walking and talking and apparently eating the remaining bloo berry pastries.
"Anyway, over the course of history we would watch over all of you and help you in small ways, like fixing your tools and clothing or making sure that you don't starve when you can't find any food on your travels." At those words Addison glances at Hyrule and Wild, who both give them a grateful yet sheepish smile.
The other two give them aghast looks, both have never run into those kinds of situations, always lucky enough to live and travel very close to villages of various sizes.
"You guys, living in the wild is really hard sometimes. Food doesn't always come flying into our open arms, only sometimes," Wild jokes, thinking back to the time a bokoblin threw a drumstick at his face. It's actually happened more than once. One time it was a pretty nice piece of steak. Hyrule nods along for the first part, but looks at him with a dumbfounded look at the second.
"Now," Addison breaks apart the confused but also tense silence that followed afterwards.
"There's one more place that I would like to show you. Follow me." The feather draws a half circle, as they turn around.
"It's my pride and joy."

Greetings! So I just read the recent story thing you just posted and got a song idea of NY own. How about sal x reader "let it burn" by RED?
(Sorry about the delay! thanks for being patient!)
Smoldering // Sal x Reader
Warnings: none!!
It started innocently, as most things like this do.
Standing just a little too close in the elevator, accidentally brushing hands as the two of you got your mail in the morning. He was a curious boy, with his plastic face and bright eyes that always looked a little like he was holding back laughter at a joke only he knew. Neither of you spoke to each other, other than the polite greeting, but it was clear something was blooming between you both, a little spring flower growing in the cracks of the worn concrete that was Nockfell.
Three months passed this way before either one of you ventured to have any kind of conversation, and even then it was just small talk, barely brushing the surface. You never asked about the prosthetic, and he never offered any information, but you were surprised how easy it was too look past. When he laughed, it was worth all the joy of spring rain falling, and when he talked you could hear the smile in his voice. You could almost imagine what it was hiding, the face of someone sweet and strong chinned. Maybe he had freckles. Sometimes in your dreams, he had a beauty mark near his left eye.
One evening, early fall, when the rain poured and the wind whipped itself into a fury, the power in Addison Apartments went out. Lisa, the matinence woman, went door to door knocking to let everyone know if we out for a good square mile, and not to worry. You had expected her, as she had a habit of doing this in Mr. Addison’s absence, but soon after there was another knock, one you hadn’t seen coming. It was Sal, hair pulled into a ponytail and in sweats, silhoutted by the yellow light of an old fashioned candle on a brass holder. Lit up this way, it was impossible to see his eyes, and you were momentarily startled by the image of his mask lit from below, with nothing but darkness behind it. The feeling just have been apparent, because he laughed and lifted the candle closer to his face.
“Boo.”
“Sal,” you moved out of the doorway and he followed you inside. “Come in.” You were grateful to shut the door into the void of the hallway. Your own apartment was lit up with candles as well, much brighter than the hallway, and instead of threatening, he became soft edged and golden. “Can I get you a drink? I’m trying to get rid of everything in the fridge before it spoils.”
“I’m okay. I only like milk after it’s curdled.” Warmth in his voice, smiling. “Anyway I didn’t mean to intrude, I just wanted to make sure you were alright.” He set the candle on the dining table, with a wary glance around the room. “So are you? Alright, I mean.”
“I’m a big kid, Sal. I’m not afraid of the dark.” You moved to the couch and pulled yourself into the corner of it, hugging knees to your chest.
“Not the dark I was worried about,” came the soft reply, and he followed into the living room, but didn’t sit down. Something about his tone made you think twice about asking a follow up question. He stood near the edge of the couch, hands in his pockets. It was the first time you’d truly been in private together. You wondered if he was thinking about that too.
“In any case, I’m glad you came. It’s nice to have the company.” You pat the couch next to you, and he finally settled into the cushions, with all the grace of a foal learning to walk. “And if I was in any danger, you’d be the first person I’d call.” The romantic light from the candles afforded you the luxury of being bold, and you turned so you could drape yourself dramatically across the couch and rest your head on his shoulder, with the back of your hand pressed against your forehead. “Oh, Sal. Thank you for rescuing little ol’ me. My hero.” He’s possessed by boldness too, and he shifted, so that your head fell on his chest instead of his shoulder, and his hands could snake around your waist.
Even with all the elevator flirting and dancing around each other in the halls, you’d never been this close to him. He smelled sweet and clean, like a fresh baked cake. Your breath hitched, just a little, but you could both feel it. The smile that had been on your face in your moment of playfulness faded, and although it was hard to see him because of the light, his eyes were so steadfast on yours that for a moment you forgot you had to breathe to stay alive. He leaned forward so that his face was just a bit over yours, an advantageous but plausible angle for him to kiss you. And he could, if he wanted, you decided. Only… There was something in the way.
Your hands seemed to move without your knowledge, reaching up to undo the buckle on the back of the prosthetic. It looked as if he might let you take it off, because your hands were already in his hair by the time he pulled back. Not unkind, just enough to ward you off, so you did, retracting your hands and sitting up to look at him.
“I’m sorry. I just… I really like you, a lot, but I’m not… I’m not ready… For that. For you to see.” He wouldn’t look at you, and the sudden absence of his gaze after so long was alarmingly stark.
“No, I’m sorry.” Funny how shame can swallow you whole like that, the way it did then, like you had broken something valuable that could never be replaced. “I thought you wanted to-”
“I do. I really do. It’s just… Complicated. It’s a lot to take in. And the longer I can keep from scaring you off.” There was silence, Sal looking at the floor, and you studying the flame of the candle on the coffee table. A phantom breeze disturbed it, and then he stood, decidedly. “I should go.” He was so fast, so unexpectedly across the room, that he was almost to the door before you could find your voice.
“Wait! Sal, just. Wait a minute, okay?” He paused, turned back to you, but still seemed hesitant. Before, it had seemed like such a good idea to light so many candles, but as you crossed the tiny apartment to blow them out, they seemed frivolous and annoying.
Finally, there was only one left. Sal’s candle, on its outdated stand, one line lighthouse in the sea of black that had descended on the rest of the apartment. You used it to find your way back to him, and then extinguished that one too. In the total dark now, he reached out to pull you closer by the elbow. When you could feel his chest in front of you, your palms flat against it, you struggled hard to stay cool when you spoke.
“Okay. Now I don’t have to see.” He made a small sound, and you imagined him opening and closing his mouth, to protest, and then deciding not to. You could feel the movement of his muscles then, and then the sound of a buckle coming undone. And then one more. And then the hollow sound of plastic on the wood of the kitchen table.
“Okay.” His voice was clearer than you had ever heard it, without the mask. Clumsily, he reached out to touch your arms, following them up to your shoulders, and then carefully placing them on either side of your face. Though you couldn’t see it, you could feel his face getting closer to yours, feel his breath brush across your face. You leaned forward too, to meet him, and when your lips met his, there was so munch electricity behind them, the lights would have stayed on the apartment building forever.
Both of you were breathless when you broke apart, though it was unclear who it was to pull back first. His hands were still framing your face, and though you wanted to return the gesture, you kept your palms steady against his chest. For now, the fluttering of his heart beneath your fingertips was enough.
“You know,” he said softly, breaking the heady quiet. “In the dark, I feel like I’m almost beautiful enough for you to love me.”

And was that a little hint at the next main character to show up at the end of the chapter??
Feedback is what motivates me to work so please let me know what you think! Reblogs are also greatly appreciated.

If she was being honest things with Addison's marriage hadn't been easy for months before Derek left New York. Even in the chaos of med school and residency her and Derek used to be able to find time for their marriage, they could put time aside to have dinner together every weekend and she used to be able to count on seeing her husband at least once during the day but over time things had gotten worse. Dinners were cancelled in favour of surgeries and Addison found herself falling asleep next to Derek's empty side of the bed almost every single night with him at the hospital. They had let things slip past the point where they could save it.
This had taken a toll on Addison emotionally. It left her feeling unwanted and alone in a house that once felt like a home to her. Derek barely gave her more than a quick brush of lips against her cheek and it had started to make her feel undesired. It's what she would blame when she slept with Mark Sloan, her husband's best friend. Mark had been there for her, had seen her, brought her dinner on nights when Derek wouldn't come home and he had told her she was beautiful when she was starting to doubt it. It was also what lead to the end of her marriage when Derek caught her in bed with Mark.
Derek hadn't flown into a fit of rage like Addison had imagined he would, and perhaps even hoped he would if it meant he still cared enough about their marriage to be angry. Sure he yelled, but it was more just at Addison to get out than anything else. After that, he had taken his things and left for Seattle.
Part of her had hoped that despite Derek's reaction he still cared, that he still wanted her and so she gave him some space before trying to fix her marriage. Before leaving New York Addison had a plan for arriving in Seattle. Her plan had been to work the case Richard had called her in for and finally talk to Derek, finally get him to listen to her about what happened that night and the problems their marriage had before heading back home to New York. Of course, that plan became a thing of the past rather quickly after landing in Seattle.
Addison still had some friends in Seattle - and by friends, she meant Richard of course - who had warned her about the young, doe-eyed, blonde intern her husband was now seeing. The first time she met her was in the lobby of Seattle Grace Hospital her first day in town. She had made a scene, and she knew that. Part of her had immediately felt guilty about the biting comment she had made to the intern. "And you must be the woman who's been screwing my husband."  As soon as she had seen the look on Meredith's face it was clear she hadn't known Derek was married. It wasn't Meredith's fault. If anyone was to blame it was Derek and admittedly herself.
She had quickly realised she didn't blame Meredith at all and in fact, felt sorry for her. After only a few days of working in the hospital, she had quickly learned that gossip spread fast and she had unintentionally placed Meredith right in the middle of it all. It all seemed to be for nothing as well. Derek was back to acting the same way he had in New  York, and possibly even worse with the new title of Adulterous Bitch that he had taken to calling her.
She was starting to slip back into that same mindset she had been in back in New York but this time the person who pulled her out of it was someone she least expected.
Meredith had been on her service for almost a week straight and she was starting to enjoy her company. She was a quick learner and always seemed curious about Addison's work, always watching everything she did closely. Meredith listened carefully when she spoke and it made her feel like the work she was doing actually meant something when it came to teaching the interns.
She had found herself starting to care more and more for the young intern. She felt seen by Meredith and she had to admit she could see why her husband had fallen for her. Not only was she sweet but her beauty hadn't gone unnoticed by Addison. She often found herself staring at Meredith when she was leaning against the nurse's station filling out charts or in the cafeteria when she was sitting around laughing with her friends. Normally Meredith's eyes were almost the colour of steel - her intense concentration reflected in her eyes - but in those moments they would soften and the pale grey was stunning.
Meredith was a young surgeon and she still had a strong urge to learn, no matter the speciality. Addison had no doubt that she would make a fine surgeon someday and she hoped she could at least have an impact on that part of her life. They had learned to work well together and Meredith was now her favourite intern to have in the O.R. with her. She had learned Addison's routine in surgery and would sometimes know what she was about to ask before she even had the chance to say it.
She found herself with a growing urge to get to know the intern outside of the hospital, to maybe even call her a friend. She told herself the urge was just from needing more friends in Seattle but there was something else, some other reason lying just below the surface that she couldn't place her finger on. She hadn't felt this drawn to someone since she first met Derek back in med school and whatever that feeling was, it was out of her control now. With her divorce finally squared away she hoped her and Meredith could spend more time together without Derek's interference.
When Doc was still at the trailer - oh how Addison missed that old dog, it surprised her how attached to him she had become - Meredith would sometimes make the trek out to the woods to visit him and on a rare occasion Derek wouldn't be home. Addison found these times oddly comforting. Meredith wasn't as open with her then and they would spend most of the time simply talking about Doc or about their surgeries that day but she enjoyed the company.
It was during one of these visits that Addison first noticed the urge to be closer to her. Doc hadn't been on his morning walk yet when Meredith arrived and she offered to take him. Addison insisted that Meredith didn't need to, if she was being honest the walks gave her the chance to clear her mind of the stress at the time but Meredith admitted she had missed taking him out on walks herself. As a compromise Addison suggested they both go. While they were walking down the forest trail Meredith had told her about one, particularly drunken night in Europe where she and her friends had found themselves lost in a forest and she had laughed as she recounted the details. It was the first time Addison had heard her talk about her past and hearing her laugh so genuinely had made her heart flutter.
~~~
It had already been an insanely busy day and it was barely lunchtime. Addison had just gotten out of a four-hour surgery with Meredith Grey and it had ended in a close call. They had almost lost the patient and it took everything Addison had to save her. She was already exhausted and in desperate need of coffee and a conversation with Callie.
The cafeteria was busy when Addison arrived but luckily she had gotten her coffee in the lobby and was able to bypass the queues that snaked around the room. She had to push her way through the crowds to reach the corner of the outdoor seating area that Callie had claimed a table in.  Once she reached the table she pulled out the chair opposite Callie and slumped down into it, placing her coffee cup down on the table.
"So you've been with both men and women right?" Addison asked casually as she leaned forward to take a sip out of her coffee. Thank God for caffeine, she didn't know if she could make it through her shift without it.
"I- Well, good morning to you too Addison." Callie laughed at the forwardness of her question.
Callie and Addison had quickly become close friends after their first case together and they were open with each other about everything. When Callie had first come out as bisexual Addison was one of the first people she told. Which is why she was now going to Callie with this issue.
"Callie, I have two labouring moms, surgery at four, a sexuality crisis and only a fifteen-minute lunch break," Addison explained with a frustrated groan. Busy surgical schedules didn't leave much time for personal issues which Addison guessed was why is had taken so long for all of this to catch up with her.
"Right." Callie nodded resting her elbows against the table and leaning in closer to her. "Yeah, I have, what's on your mind, Addison?"
"Does having feelings for a girl feel," Addison hesitated for a moment unsure of what she was even trying to ask Callie. "Different?"
"You mean different than being attracted to men? It can. It really all depends on what you identify as and I don't want to assume anything here Addison. I will say, if there's someone you think you might be attracted to at the moment and you're comparing it to Derek or Mark, then yes, it will feel different." Callie explained. "Derek was your first love, you fell in love young and that was always going to be different anyway because attraction like that was new and fun. Mark was different because you were hurting because you were confused and it was during a dark time in your life. But this whoever it is, it's going to be different because you're an adult now Addison. You know who you are and what you want. The main thing you need to ask yourself is, do they make you happy and go from there. It's a learning process and it might take you some time."
"She does." Addison smiled then, it was bright and genuine. "She makes me happy. Thank you so much, Callie, you really are an incredible friend. I don't know what I'd do without you."
"Of course Addie." Callie reached across the table and gave Addison's arm a squeeze. "And you absolutely do not have to tell me who this mystery potential crush is but if you did want to your secret would be safe with me."
"I think it's best if I don't say anything right now, it's a bit - messy." Addison laughed. She wasn't even entirely sure where to start when it came to explaining this. How do you explain to your best friend that you've fallen for your ex-husbands ex-mistress?
"Right got it." Callie laughed with her. "But Addison, I'm glad you found someone who makes you happy. I really mean it."
"Thank you, Callie." She nodded. "Oh and for the love god please don't mention this to Mark, I'll never hear the end of it."
FIND ALL OTHER PARTS HERE -----> MASTERLIST
Seeing Y/N again was like a punch to the damn stomach, especially after seeing her at the store with her family. I couldn’t even interview people without freaking seeing her. To make things worse, my brain couldn’t even figure out one goddamn thing to say to her. I just stared at her like an idiot. Way to go, moron.
It wasn’t until she left the room that I was able to snap out of whatever trance she put me in. I shook my head and stepped closer to the hospital bed. Claire was staring at me with one of her eyebrows arched. “What?”
“Have you like… never seen a nurse before?” She chuckled and glanced between my brother and I. “I thought your partner was going to have to pick your jaw off the floor.”
Sam stifled a snicker but quickly regained his composure. Thankfully he took care of most of the questions, I couldn’t think straight anyways. And just like that she was coming back in the room. I swore my heart skipped a beat just like the first time I ever saw her.
She’s so goddamn beautiful. But she couldn’t even spare me a glance. I did not like the ache that started forming in my chest. Why the hell won’t she freakin’ look at me? I was too caught up in my own head to realize she was leaving again. “Excuse me.”
I hightailed it after her out of the room. “Y/N.” If she heard me, she didn’t act like it. “Y/N!” Her feet finally came to a halt but she didn’t turn around. Shit, I didn’t think this far ahead. My mouth opened and closed a few times like a fish out of water. Literally words were an impossible task at this point.
“Why are you here?” I had to strain to hear her, but she was talking to me.
Releasing a sigh, I shifted a little closer to her and watched as her shoulders straightened. “You know why I’m here. You saw those bite marks just like I did…” Her head nodded but she was focused on fumbling with the small bag in her hands. “Will you at least look at me?”
Those two seconds that passed by might as well have been two hours. Watching her slowly turn on her heels to face me caused that ache in my chest to grow. I knew my being here completely threw her for a loop. Hell it threw me for one. She always wore her emotions on her face, and those pretty eyes were starting to fill with tears. “I… I don’t know what to say to you. I’m not even sure if I want to say something to you. I just, I can’t do this right now.”
Y/N whipped around to head back down the hall, but I was quicker. My hand darted out and gripped at her wrist. She stopped, but yanked her hand from mine. Letting out another sigh, I allowed my eyes to search her face. Look for anything that said she still had some feelings for me.
Grabbing my wallet, I pulled out one of the business cards that I handed to victims. “This uh, has my number on it. My cell phone number… in case you do find something you want to say to me.”
Her brows furrowed at the little white card but in the end she took it. She glanced over the card and the corner of her mouth twitched. “Have a good day, Detective Wayne.” Without another word, Y/N headed down the hall and this time I let her go. I saw that look on her face when she recognized the alias name, Y/N always used to make jokes that I was like Batman. My girl is still in there somewhere.
Reader’s POV
It wasn’t until you stepped foot into the break room that the gravity of the situation fully set in. The ridiculousness of it had you cackling. Dean freaking Winchester was back, after ten goddamn years, he was back. Your shaky hands covered your face before releasing a groan. Keeping your one hand over your eyes, you blindly searched for your cell phone.
Jason answered on the third ring. “Hey baby. I thought you didn’t get off for another three hours?”
“He’s back!” You exclaimed into the phone, flinging your free arm up and your eyebrows stretching up to touch your hairline. “Like in the fucking flesh!”
You can hear Jas make a confused sound on the other end of the line. “Who?”
“Dean, Jason! Dean Winchester is at the hospital right now and just gave me his number like we’re back in fucking high school!” At this point you were pacing around the room, pinching the bridge of your nose. “What do I even do with that? Ask to meet for coffee? Say hey, you ditched me and said some shit ten years ago but that’s in the past let's make up? Oh God, I think I’m gonna throw up.”
Jason cleared his throat and the TV in the background was turned down. “I’m sorry, you did say Dean right?”
“Yes! Oh my God, Jason, keep up!”
“I - uh, what is he uh - what’s he doing there?” All of these years, you’ve never told anyone about the secret lives of the Winchesters. It was never your business to tell.
Your brain scrambled to try and think of an excuse. “He uh, he’s with federal law enforcement and is here about a patient.” Yeah, that worked. “I just… Jas, he’s here. I’ve dreamed of this day for years. Even after everything he said to me, I couldn’t wait to see him again. But now, I don’t know what I feel.”
“Of course you don’t know what to feel, baby. Dean used to be what made you happy but he broke your heart, it’s been ten years. Of course you moved on, you’re happy now and living your best life. Him coming back doesn’t have to change any of that.” Jason had always been your voice of reason. Without him you were sure you would’ve ended up in a loony bin. “Are you okay to stay at work or do you want me to come get you?”
A heavy sigh left your chest as you sat down in one of the chairs. As much as your head was currently pounding, you knew you couldn’t leave work. “I’m fine, it’s only a few more hours. Do you mind if I come over though? I don’t really feel like being alone.”
“Sure thing. Door will be unlocked, okay?”
Thankfully, there were no sightings of Dean for the rest of your shift. You were sitting at the table eating dinner with Jason and Addison when you finally made up your mind. “You know what? I’m gonna do it.”
Both of their heads turned to look at you. “Do what?” Jason asked.
“Call him.” You emphasized your point with a nod of your head before popping a piece of broccoli into your mouth.
Jason choked on his water and Addi’s head tilted. “Who are you going to call?”
“An old friend, pumpkin.”
“Oh, is that what we’re calling him now?” He crossed his arms over chest, leaning back in his seat.
Your shoulders shrugged, “Not the point, just be my best friend and support me.”
He sighed and ran his hand across his jaw. “It’s not that I don’t support you. At the end of all this, I just want you to be happy. And when he left you were a wreck for months. Don’t give me that look, you know it’s true…” Jason gave you a small smile and reached across the table to hold your hand. ‘I love you and if you want to do this, I’ll even sit with you.”
“I uh, I think I need to do this by myself.” Glancing between Addi and Jase, you smiled at both of them and slid your chair back. “I’ll come get my plate in a minute.”
Before anything else could be said, you jumped from your chair and headed up the stairs. You didn’t feel like having Jason eavesdropping and you could hear if he came up the stairs. Sitting down in the middle of Jason’s bed, you pulled the little white card and phone from your pocket. You quickly dialed the number before you found a reason not to.
Each ring seemed to make your heart beat faster. The last time you were on the phone with Dean it ended horribly. Just when you were about to forget it and hang up, the other end picked up. “Detective Wayne.”
“Hi, Dean. This is - uh”
“Y/N?”
You nodded your head until you remembered he couldn’t see you. “Yeah, it’s me.”
Dean cleared his throat on the other end of the line. “I wasn’t expecting to hear from you uh, so soon.” His voice was wavered slightly, it always sound like that when he got nervous. Guess some things never change.
“Do you think we could meet up sometime? Tomorrow, would be great actually. I get off at 3.” You got the words out as fast as your could, not giving your nerves a chance to take over.
You played with a string that frayed off the blanket laying on the bed, hoping he couldn’t hear how your heart was pounding in your chest. “Tomorrow? Yeah, that sounds good. I can pick you up from wo-”
“Oh no, that’s okay. I’ll just meet you at Mickey’s, you remember that place?” There was no way you could keep your guard up if you were alone in the car with him. That was too enclosed, no way for you to easily escape.
“Yeah, I remember. See you at 3:30?” Chewing on your bottom lip, you nodded your head. “Y/N, I can’t hear you shaking your head.”
You scoffed and pinched the bridge of your nose. “That sounds good.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow then.” It was impossible not to hear the smile in his voice, and damn it was infectious. In a second you found yourself smiling at the sound of his voice.
“Bye, Dean.”
amelia shepherd is dead. FOR ADDISON HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEEHEHEHEE I HATE MYSELF
send “____ is dead” for my muse’s reaction to that character dying // accepting.
if anything ever happen to me would you take henry?
first, it was mark. when she heard the news about his death, she wanted to scream – she wanted to shout. she HATED it. she hated everything about it. there was nothing she could do… not when pete just died, not when the two men she loved so much were both proclaimed dead. yet, violet wouldn’t let her CRY, because it was true: pete wanted his funeral to be a celebration of his life… not a typical, mourning of the loss of him.
then, it was derek – the man that she gave one third of her life to. she loved him, she loved him more than she knew how to love any other person. maybe it was because of the fact that she was so young, so reckless, and didn’t have her heart broken by any other person. when amelia cried, she did too… even if she DIDN’T want to.
knowing that she could never see derek again sent shivers up her spine.
yet, all of those words… despite how fake and fraudulent they appeared to be – it was something she grew to accept. she HAD to because she sure as hell wasn’t going to break down when amelia needed her to be strong. so she did. she grit her teeth, she moved through the aching pain even though it would’ve been so much simpler for her to cry in her shower, use up all the hot water, and left her son with amelia until she felt that she was stable again.
but – when that news travelled her ears: she simply froze.
none of those syllables seemed to string together to mean anything that has any semblance of being coherent. amelia shepherd can’t be dead – she was a SELF-PROCLAIMED superhero && superheroes don’t go around dying left and right.
after all, if amelia DIED then who did she have to look after henry? who did she have when she needed someone to talk to on those lonely nights? it was always amelia. amelia was family. amelia was important… she LOVED amelia.
Tumblr media
“ uhm… are you sure she isn’t just – ” she couldn’t bring herself to think of the possible thoughts…. the thought of her falling off the wagon, the thought of her relapsing – it terrified her. she was fine this morning, they had a skype session actually and had an AMAZING conversation.
car crash. that was how — HOW CRUEL WAS THAT? the grotesque irony at the fact that she and her brother shared the same fate ! brain dead? really? if god was real then – what the hell was his obsession with declaring neurosurgeons braindead.
addison could only lean back against the wall behind her, her face buried in her knees. this intense grief – it could only be processed through numbness, through denial, through disbelief. she didn’t understand. she couldn’t understand. amelia was always a constant in her life… when her marriage fell apart, she was the only one there to accept her once again.
she loved her. she loved her so much. she loved her through the moments that drove her insane. she loved her when she SAW how much pain && suffering she underwent when she gave birth to her baby… and she loved her when she saw how she held henry in her arms.
she loved amelia shepherd… every last bit of her.
Tumblr media
but the longer she questioned herself, the more she trembled. the more she trembled, the more she felt her breath shudder, hitch, and panic. tears that threatened to escape the brim of her eyes, did – the TEARS she tried so hard to keep at bay because if she allowed them to roll down her face, it meant that she was starting to accept the reality of those words.
and addison didn’t want to.
as grief poured down her cheeks, she took her phone and bought the soonest flight to seattle that she could.
the very least she could do, was to see her one last time. even if it meant that they couldn’t say good bye.
at least, amelia knew that addison loved her && was so, incredibly proud of her.
my muse is dead. tell me how yours is dealing with it.
„Someone should page Addison.“
„She´s not on call.“
„Then somenone should CALL Addison.“
„Yes. Of course. I´m…on it.“
-
You do not get to break down. You do not get to fall apart. Not when there´s still a chance that there´s still a chance.
Her own voice rang inside her head the whole way from their apartment to the hospital. If she was being honest then Addison wasn´t even sure how she´d gotten to the hospital. Her mind had gone blank except for that mantra she´d given to Derek back then.
It seemed like ages ago now.
She´d kissed Alex goodbye this morning. Had told him that she had taken the day off for a surprise. And he´d joked that it better be something that had to do with sex. Epic sex. And she had laughed. Like she always did.
And she should have said I love you.
Those were the thoughts swirling around in her head as she stepped into the ER, not even taking notice of the people bustling about. It was like nothing else mattered since she´d been called. An emergency at the hospital, she had thought, one of her patient needing urgent surgery. But there had been no surgery, just Christina´s voice on the other end of the line, telling her to come to the hospital. That Alex had been driven off the road on his way to work and that things were not looking good.
For a minute Addison had just sat there, the phone still in hand.
It had felt like the information hadn´t quite reached her brain yet. Or that someone was playing a prank on her. That Alex would open the door any minute and walk back into their apartment. But nothing had happened. Not until Christina had repeated her name on the other end of the line and Addison had come back to herself, taken her keys and gotten into her car.
Statistically speaking car crashes didn´t always end fatally.
But statistically speaking car accidents were also the leading cause of death among people aged 15-29.
“He can´t be dead…” Addison whispered to herself as she put one foot in front of the other almost automatically, navigating around the ER in which she had already saved countless of lives. And lost about just as many.
She´d been walking around for what felt like forever when she finally found a recognizable face. The thing was: Addison wished that she hadn´t. She could have spent the entire day wandering around the hospital, repeating the fact that there was still hope in her head.
But her eyes had met with Meredith´s, the only one who had managed to look at her.
And Addison knew.
For a moment it felt like her world had stopped.
And then something inside her broke. Like her heart had stumbled and frozen. And one look from Meredith felt as if someone had taken a hammer and shattered her heart, the shards cutting her open from the inside.
Arms wrapped around her and Addison knew who it was before turning her head. Mark´s smell is unmistakable, that same cologne he´d been wearing for years.
“I´m sorry Addie. We tried…” She lifted a hand to stop him from talking. She had to see. Seeit for herself. So she wound herself out of his arms and walked on, banning everything, and everyone, from her thoughts.
She didn´t take notice of a crying Izzie. Or a distraught George trying to comfort her, but managing to do nothing more than holding her hand.
She didn´t even pay attention to Richard, whose white coat was stained red with blood, blood Addison knew belonged to Alex.
And then there was Alex himself. They had taken out any tubes and turned off any monitors, and if she just looked at his face Addison could almost convince herself that he was just sleeping. His face was almost unscathed, safe for a cut on his forehead. They had covered him up with a blanket and she didn´t dare to see what was underneath it.
She simply stood for a while, the mantra she´d been repeating in her head ever since leaving the house slowly fading away.
There was no chance. Not anymore.
Addison could feel the tears burning in her eyes as she reached out for his hand. It was still warm. Like he could still hold on to hers. Like the ghost of him was still around.
-
She wasn´t sure how long she´d been standing there, tears streaming down her face and holding onto his hand like it was a lifeline.
“Addie.” It was Mark´s voice that pulled her from her state of trance and she barely glanced up. “I´m going to take you home, alright?” He whispered and Addison wanted to scream. Scream and yell at him that she couldn´t go home. That it wasn´t going to be a home without HIM.
But she didn´t. Instead she let him take her away, Alex´ hand slipping from her own.
She saw Izzie, who seemed to have stopped crying, now with George´s arm wrapped around her, simply staring into the distance. Richard, who still hadn´t changed out of the bloody coat, face buried in his hands. Christina, who sat next to Meredith, simply holding her hand. Miranda, who just stood in the corridor, looking lost.
Addison didn´t remember much of the way home. Just Mark putting her into his car and strapping her in. Mark leading her to the elevator and them standing in front of the apartment door. And the way her chest tightened at the simple thought of going back in there.
“Give me the keys Addie, please.” Mark´s voice barely made it through to her and she simply pointed at her coat pocket. Keys were taken out and pushed into the lock and the door was opened.
But Addison didn´t step into the apartment. It was like her body had relinquished control.
Mark, however, stepped inside and was greeted by an unusual sight.
There were balloons everywhere, an entire plate of cupcakes with different coloured frostings, and a bottle of champagne on the dining room table.
Mark frowned, stepping closer and picking up the card that was propped up in the middle of it all. There was just one sentence, written in Addison´s handwriting, along with something taped to the empty side of the card.
“Oh Addie…” Mark whispered, turning to look at her over his shoulder. Addison just stood where he´d left her, shrugging her shoulders helplessly.
                       Hello Daddy,
                 See you in 8 months.
