It had to be the Academy Awards that got burned in tonight’s SNL cold open, didn’t it? But did it have to be this gammy cold opening to the year’s Oscars having the slap, which was awesome, I mean bad, so bad?" said Heidi Gardner as "either Maria Menounos or Kit Hoover--they haven’t told me which yet" in the NBC late-night show’s first few minutes. "So, this year to make sure nothing crazy happens, the Academy hired a new head of security: a notoriously calm and sane person, Mike Tyson," she says as Kenan Thompson strolled on screen as the former heavyweight champion.
At that point, Saturday Night Live should have realized that it had a case of less is more. But the show wanted more, so I should warn you: the following things will set me off," Thompson’s Tyson told Gardner’s Access Hollywood host and her Mario Lopez sidekick (played by Marcello Hernandez). "Clapping, statues of gold people, and shows that last more than three hours, and also hearing the phrase ‘the magic of movies,’ " the fictional Tyson went on to say, with references to Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel being equipped with a "flamethrower" as a new security measure.
“Seriously, how great is this?” exclaimed cast member Chloe Fineman as Jamie Lee Curtis next up in the longer-than-usual skit. Were the fictional version of the "Everywhere, All at Once star and Best Supporting Actress nominee entirely rhetorical? Maddeningly, an on-screen sidebar mid-cold open of Draft Kings taking bets on “George Santos pretending to be Tom Cruise,” “Chris Rock” showing up, and the billion-to-one of “Harvey Weinstein Introduces Kanye West” teased how good this Oscar-centric skit could have been.
Even the great Bowen Yang showing up the truth-challenged freshman congressman claiming to be the Top Gun: Maverick star "Thomas Q. Cruise" was not the redeemer it needed to be. "Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to be everyone everywhere all at once," was an understatement into Sunday’s Oscars, plus further fallout from Dominion Voting System’s defamation suit against Fox News and the self-cannibalism that the race for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination is already gearing up to be, the topical SNL had no shortage of satire at its disposal for this week. A new document and deposition dump in the Dominion vs. FNC legal war the past few days could have easily and shamelessly provided Saturday Night Live with another cold open mocking Fox News, as it did the week before.
But after the slap heard around the world when Will Smith took a whack live onstage at Rock for mocking his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, this week’s cold open had to be a hot take on the 95th Academy Awards, and the banality of pre-ceremony red carpet shows pummeled later in the cold open with comparisons between the 95th Academy Awards and "how racist and sexist your Grampa was at 95," we should have seen where this was going from the start--and it wasn’t good.
"I guess everyone in Hollywood has diabetes," Gardner quipped right at the start of the cold open with a lame swipe at Tinsley Town’s new weight-shedding love affair with the drug Ozempic. "We are so excited to have been standing outside the Dolby Theatre for almost 153 hours," added Hernandez’s Lopez. "But it’s all worth asking Angela Bassett if she really did the thing.
With Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as host and The 1975 as musical guest, tonight’s 15th episode of the 48th season finds SNL in the final stretch for this year. In what could be EP Lorne Michaels’ last stint at the helm, the NBC late-nighter is also facing a very unfunny labor disruption as the show’s post-production editors could strike on April 1. As the rest of Hollywood gears up for the WGA sitting down with the studios on March 20 for likely contentious negotiations on a new three-year contract, the Editors Guild has another virtual chat set with NBCUniversal reps on March 13 for the 95th Academy Awards, starting at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on Sunday on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel back as the host for a third time. And they have basically promised there will be no fisticuffs this year, at least not literally.

Access Hollywood‘s Mario Lopez, together with his wife/Broadway star Courtney Lopez (A Chorus Line) are the latest actors to join Great American Family‘s lineup of holiday movies.
The duo will headline My Grown-Up Christmas Wish, which follows Mario Lopez as the mayor of an idyllic community of Long Grove. While decorating for Christmas with the residents, Brian discovers his childhood Christmas wish list which magically begins to come true, reminding Brian about the spirit and joy of the holiday. Returning to town for Christmas is Brian’s childhood friend Nina Meyers (Courtney Lopez), and soon a connection becomes undeniable as she helps Brian face a new challenge for the town. As Brian’s wishes come true, he inspires the town to showcase its warm culture and values in order to stop the modern world from stifling the charm and heart of Long Grove.
Joining his famous parents in the film is Dominic Lopez, who will play Brian — his dad’s character — as a young boy.
“We could not imagine better creative partners to join our Great American team than Mario and Courtney Lopez,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media. “Mario and Courtney and the team around them are creative collaborators and absolutely devoted to telling stories that bring families together. The partnership is a Christmas wish come true for our company.”
The Lopez family joins an all-star Great American Christmas lineup for 2024 that includes Candace Cameron Bure, Danica McKellar, Cameron Mathison, Jill Wagner, Lauren Holly, and Bruce Boxleitner, with more stars and Christmas movies to be announced.
My Grown Up Christmas Wish is executive produced by Mark Roberts, Jeff Stearns, and Jemma Jones and is directed by Brian Herzlinger. It is based on an original screenplay by Brian and Megan Herzlinger.

5 Christmas Movies To Watch With Your BFF
The holidays can be a time of high stress for many which is why it's great to schedule in time to rest, relax, and enjoy all the holiday season has to offer. What better way to rest and celebrate than binging Christmas movies surrounded by one chosen family: friends! While most holiday movies are either geared towards kids or families at large, there is a handful that are great to watch with friends.
Finding the perfect Christmas movie to watch with your best friend can be a difficult task. There are so many classic Christmas movies that have stood the test of time, and if you and your best friend love watching classic films, then you're going to love this list.
Home Alone (1990)
There are many Christmas movies that have been released over the years. But if you're looking for a special Christmas movie, you should watch Home Alone. This is one of my favorite Christmas movies and it's easy to see why. It features some of the most memorable child actors in Hollywood history. Christmas can be hard on families who have large amounts of holiday stress and at times it can be hard to find positive things to do with your kids so I love watching movies like this during the holidays.
The plot of the movie centers around Kevin, who decides to take his little brother, Buzz, on a Christmas vacation by himself because his parents are too busy with work and other things to care about them. However, things don't go as planned when Kevin is left home alone for Christmas Eve and the bad guy wins by locking him inside a dangerous house.
Holiday In Handcuffs (2007)
Holiday in Handcuffs is a Christmas movie that is both enjoyable and entertaining. It's Christmas, so why not have fun at this time of year? This is one of those movies that has a lot more fun and laughs to it than most other Christmas movies out there. If you're looking for a fun, holiday-themed movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, then I would definitely recommend Holiday in Handcuffs.
The movie became the highest viewed broadcast in the history of ABC Family with 6.7 million viewers and adults 18 to 49. The movie is set in a wintry climate, but the store where they stop to buy gas only has a screen door on the front.
Melissa Joan Hart and Mario Lopez will transport you back to Nostalgia-ville, USA by simply existing in a movie together, if the absurd premise isn't enough to interest you. Hart's character legitimately kidnaps a man to bring home for the holidays. It's insane. That's really all you need to know. The rest is simply magic.
The Grinch (2018)
While it's not the Christmas tradition in North America, the Grinch is one of those classic Christmas movies that everyone needs to watch at least once. On Christmas Eve, Max and Cindy are playing cards and their mother gives the kids a last-minute gift. It's the Grinch who shows up. The rest of this film follows the Grinch's attempts to steal Christmas from Max and Cindy. This was hilarious but heartwarming at the same time despite how dark it got towards the end where there was hardly any singing!
No list of Christmas movies is truly complete without an appearance from the Grinch, and this animated version deserves a place in the holiday movie canon, thanks to Benedict Cumberbatch's memorable take on everyone's favorite green holiday grump. If you ever feel overloaded by too much Christmas cheer, sickly sweet-chocolates and can’t get the echo of ‘Falalalalalala’ out of your head, then you’ll find an affinity with our favourite lawn-coloured, hairy friend The Grinch.
The Santa Clause (1994)
If you are a big fan of Santa Clause then try watching The Santa Clause (1994). This movie was released on December 6th, 1994. It is a family friendly film directed by John Pasquin and stars Tim Allen as the protagonist who comes to live with his three sons and their mother when his wife dies. He is given the job of being the head of household at their house while they look for a new housekeeper of the same gender. The old housekeeper gives him a special gift which enables him to be able to experience Santa Claus' body. This gift also allows him to become Santa Claus whenever he wants and for instance, he can give gifts to kids around the world!
You and your BFF can discuss how disturbing the thought of Santa perishing after falling off the roof is while simultaneously swooning over David Krumholtz dressed as an elf.
Elf (2003)
When it comes to classic Christmas movies, Elf makes the cut without any objections. The movie follows Buddy, a human who was raised by elves after stowing away in Santa's bag when he visited his orphanage. Now an adult, Buddy leaves the North Pole to New York City to track down his birth father after finding out he's adopted.
While Elf is more of a family-friendly Christmas movie, it's also great for friends to watch together. From hilarious scenes of Buddy prancing around in an elf costume to a cute romantic comedy and the uniting of family, there's something for everyone.
Elf is a 2003 American fantasy comedy film directed by Jon Favreau and written by David Berenbaum and Jeff Vintar. The story follows an "inter-dimensional elf" named Buddy (Will Ferrell) who travels to New York City during the Christmas season when he stumbles onto his human father who has yet to tell his wife of 25 years that he's actually Elf.
There are plenty of perfect Christmas movies for you and your BFF. We hope this list will help you.

Oh hey, you were the focus of a dream I had. You were having a HUGE birthday bash, your dad was Mario Lopez and I was NOT there because Ohio existed in some kind of dimension that was always hours of travel away regardless of where you started. It was shot in cinematic angles and the character arcs were pretty good, anyways, eventually we hung out, I gave you your present, a hand crafted harp song that was connected to your backstory somehow and made by an old lady who was also there in the story. Was fun.

this sounds very magical im so glad and honored
