Phantom Friday...
Pardo's push.
Tumblr media
An epic story of guts and ingenuity. Captain Bob Pardo used his own damaged Phantom to push his wingman's crippled aircraft to an area safe for ejection. From Wikipedia: (they write it better than I could...)
Tumblr media
Captain Bob Pardo (with Weapon Systems Officer 1st Lt Steve Wayne) and wingman Captain Earl Aman (with Weapon Systems Officer 1st Lt Robert Houghton) were assigned to the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand. In March 1967, they were trying to attack a steel mill in North Vietnam just north of Hanoi. On March 10, 1967, the sky was clear for a bombing run, but both F-4 Phantom IIs were hit by anti-aircraft fire. Aman's plane took the worst damage; his fuel tank had been hit, and he quickly lost most of his fuel. Aman and Houghton then determined that they did not have enough fuel to make it to a KC-135 tanker aircraft over Laos. To avoid having Aman and Houghton bail out over hostile territory, Pardo decided to try pushing the airplane. Pardo first tried pushing the plane using Aman's drag chute compartment but turbulence interfered. Pardo then tried to use Aman's tailhook to push the plane. The Phantom, having been originally designed as a naval aircraft for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps, was equipped with a heavy duty tailhook for landings aboard aircraft carriers and for emergency arrestments ashore. Aman lowered his tailhook and Pardo moved behind Aman until the tailhook was against Pardo's windscreen. Aman then shut down both of his J79 jet engines. The push worked, reducing the rate of descent considerably, but the tailhook slipped off the windscreen every 15 to 30 seconds, and each time Pardo had to reposition his plane to do it again. Pardo also struggled with a fire in one of his own engines and eventually had to shut it down. In the remaining 10 minutes of flight time, Pardo used the one last engine to slow the descent of both planes. With Pardo's plane running out of fuel after pushing Aman's plane almost 88 miles (142 km), the planes reached Laotian airspace at an altitude of 6,000 feet (1,800 m). This left them about two minutes of flying time. Both crews ejected, evaded capture, and were picked up by rescue helicopters.
Initially Pardo was reprimanded for not saving his own aircraft but the case was re-evaluated in 1989 and all four crewmembers were awarded the Silver Star.
Epic!

Medal of Honor Monday: Jack Koelsch
At about this time in 1951, a Navy pilot works to save a downed Marine. John “Jack” Koelsch would later receive the Medal of Honor for his action: He was the first helicopter pilot to be so honored.
Lieutenant (j.g.) Koelsch was then serving with a Helicopter Squadron aboard USS Princeton. He’d already served one tour of duty in Korea and was due to rotate home. He didn’t want to go, though. He specialized in pilot rescues and was good at it.
He knew he was needed. He chose to stay.

Historical F-15 'MiG Killer' makes final flight to U.S. Air Force museum
The F-15C that arrived Tuesday at the National Air Force Museum of the United States is the only jet of its kind to shoot down two enemy MiG-29s.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 04/26/2023 - 08:25 in Military, Museums
A historic F-15 jet fighter made its last flight on Tuesday to the United States National Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.
Tumblr media
Lieutenant Colonel Matthew “Beast” Tanis flew the F-15C from the Barnes National Air Guard Base in Massachusetts to Dayton and after several overflights to burn fuel, he talked a little about what that particular plane means to him.
youtube
The F-15C, with tail number 86156, is the only F-15 with double slaughter of MiG-29, which was recorded in 1999 over Yugoslavia. Tanis spoke with reverence about the feat performed by Colonel Jeff "Claw" Hwang when he shot down the two enemy MiG-29s.
Tanis said it was an honor to be able to fly the historic jet fighter for what he described as a "hall of fame" for USAF.
Tumblr media
Colonel Jeff Hwang, deputy commander of the 142nd Fighter Squadron, pauses on the ladder of his F-15C Eagle after his 'Final Flight' with the Oregon National Air Guard, September 19, 2014, at Portland, Oregon National Air Guard Base. Painted on the Eagle are two green stars, which were added to Hwang's aircraft for his last flight in the Air Force, and refer to the two Mikoyan MiG-29 he shot down over Kosovo on March 26, 1999.
When asked if flying in this jet to the museum is exciting, he said yes.
"This is like one of those sad things with your favorite car, you're basically driving to the garage to never drive it again," Tanis said.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
With regard to driving the F-15 in general, Tanis said it is rewarding, but challenging.
"There are not many limits to this, there are not many things you can't do and it makes you very, very fun," Tanis said. "The F-15C is the last jet created not fly-by-wire, so they are cranks and belt pulleys, so you are connected to the joystick. Obviously, it's hydraulically triggered to move it, but you feel it, and all jets since then don't have that."
Tumblr media
Meghan Anderson, curator of the museum's Research Division, said this F-15C will likely replace an F-15A that is currently on display.
She said there is no schedule for when the "MiG Killer" will be on display. It first needs to be cleaned and prepared for display.

Description: "This is the remarkable story of one man’s service in the Royal Navy, RAF and the Royal Naval Reserve Air Branch of the Fleet Air Arm. It is a flying career which lasted for an impressive 51 years and in which Warrant Officer Class 1 John Sheldon amassed over 8,000 hours in the air. Having joined the Royal Navy in 1968, as a fifteen-year-old boy entrant not long out of school, John was recruited into the Fleet Air Arm as a junior electrician. He went on to become a Commando Aircrewman and flew in all types of service helicopters and in all of their roles, from Arctic training in Norway to the balmy Mediterranean and the wilds of Canada.
Having initially been involved in the evacuation of Cyprus and the Turkish invasion in 1974, in which his helicopter had to recover bodies from the water with a sprawl net, John went on to serve in Northern Ireland, was deployed to the South Atlantic in the Falklands War, where he operated from HMS Fearless and helped lift survivors from the RFA Sir Galahad tragedy, undertook a tour in Lebanon, and then saw action during the First Gulf War, in Bosnia, Sierra Leone and then in Afghanistan. In his extraordinary career, John was tasked with going around the UK undertaking aerial displays to support recruitment campaigns for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, as well as completing several tours as a Search and Rescue Aircrewman, Anti-Submarine Operator and also as an RN/RAF Test Aircrewman at the Rotary Wing Test Squadron at Boscombe Down.
This unique memoir covers the military action that John encountered, the many incidents and close shaves he was involved in and the friends he lost during his long and illustrious career."

Crisis in the White House.
Two hours ago, The White House, Washington DC, August 2012 4:30 pm Eastern time.
*A Sh 1 Sea King helicopter flies by as it heads straight for the executive wing of the White House. This helicopter is called Marine Two and is used as a call sign for the Vice President of the United States, Barack Hussien Obama. The chopper is escorted by the Marine Corps squadron HMX-1, responsible for the transportation of the President, the Vice president, as well as other important VIPs*.
*Eventually, Marine Two lands on the southern lawn of the White House. The Vice president steps out, accompanied by the US Secretary of Defense, Joseph Biden of Delaware*
Barack Obama: You know something, Joe? Every time I see the White House, I never get tired of it. Maybe it's just the prestige beauty of it being a symbol of freedom and democracy that gets me.
Joe Biden: Yeah, I hear you. Honestly, Obama, you're too calm about stuff like this.
Barack Obama: Yeah, but I like to view this as a positive. People need a cool head in these desperate times. Being irrational gets you nowhere and will only cause instability and chaos in any nation.
Joe Biden: Yeah, I guess you have a point there my friend.
???: Excuse us gentlemen.
*Obama and Biden turn around to see two Secret Service men coming to their area, one of them both wearing black suits, one of them with a bald head and the other one with a buzz *.
Barack Obama: Mack, Paul, how can I help you?
Mack: Well, the President requests you and the Secretary of Defense at the Situation room. It's a matter that needs both of your attention.
Joe Biden: That urgent?
Mack: Yes sir, it is.
Barack Obama: Well, we can't keep the president waiting, can we now? Very well then, we'll come.
Joe Biden: Yeah, I guess I can come to.
Mack: Excellent, Paul, escort them to the situation room, please. I'll catch up with you soon.
Paul: Understood, "turns to Obama and Biden" Follow me, please.
*The group proceeds to enter the door of the West Wing of the White House. As they walk, they move past places such as the Oval Office, where the president works officially, and the Cabinet Room, where the president meets with top advisors, as well as the press briefing room, the room where the president briefs the press on current events*
*Eventually, they are led into an elevator that takes them to the ground floor. Paul presses a button, getting the elevator moving. After 5 minutes, the Elevator stops and the doors open*
*They reach the Situation room entrance, before being stopped by a Secret Service agent with straight hair and glasses, Murray. Murray looks at Obama and Biden for a minute, then at Paul who nods his head. Murray then proceeds to let them get inside, just in time for the meeting*.
*Standing in the room are 130 people, ranging from communication technicians, duty officers, watch teams, and the like. Situated at the desk is the President and the staff. Notable people include Thomas E. Donlion, National Security Advisor. Naval Admiral Ron Desantis Deputy National Security Advisor Denis McDonough, Secretary of Defense Leon Paletta, Chairman of the Joint Cheifs of Staff Mike Mullen, Cia Director David Petraeus, Secretary of State William J Burns, and the 44th President of the United States, John Mckain*.
Mckain: Glad you two could come at this hour. Take a seat, we have a lot to discuss.
Obama and Biden proceed to take a seat. Obama sits next to Burns on the right while Biden sits next to Petraeus on the left.

Notice who’s doing the talking 👉🏻Delaware Adjutant General Major General Michael Berry.
In every single article where the National Guard are deploying 👉🏻 zero Commander-in-Chief or President or “Biden” mentioned.
Well, that’s what they do in a Military Operation and Continuation of Government ✅
Who gave the Orders to the General?
Well, who’s above the General?
👉🏻 Commander-in-Chief ✅
“Biden’s” NEVER mentioned the words Space Force.
His new Press Secretary recently on video said, “if the Space Force personnel would like to come get to know us, we would welcome that.”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For those who have no clue what’s going on…THAT is how sleepy Americans are to hear such a thing and that not make ‘em go 🧐🤔
Space Force is a Department of the Air Force. The Air Force did not give the Air Force One Presidential ride for “Biden” on January 20, 2021.
The Coast Guard is a Department of Homeland Security during Peacetime, they operate UNDER the NAVY during TIMES of WAR.
There’s 2 Helicopter Strike Maritime Squadrons from the United States Navy out of San Diego, California, stationed at Coast Guard Bases in Mobile, Alabama, (major Port) and Miami, Florida, and have been for over two years.
The Marines are a Department of the Navy… the “Men’s Department” as they joke 🤭
The Army and the Navy transferred ALL Communications to the Space Force in August and December 2022 to be under ONE Command.
Who created the Space Force, December 20, 2019?
👉🏻 Donald John Trump.
Who’s the ONLY person who can Federalize the National Guard to Active Duty?
👉🏻 The President.
10 US Code 12406
Who Federalized the National Guard?
👉🏻 Donald John Trump.
In Executive Order 13912 and 10 US Code 1209, in March 2020.
“Biden” extended that EO twice putting the NG Federalized aka Activated until 2024…
👉🏻 Continuity of Government.
They were Federalized because Congress did not have a Resolution for all 9 National Emergencies declared by DJT.
👉🏻 Military Operation to expose RINOS
The ONLY person who can terminate a National Emergency…
👉🏻 President.
All in 50 US Code 34.
Who declared the National Emergencies?
👉🏻 Donald John Trump.
Who gets to terminate those and address the Nation?
👉🏻 Donald John Trump.
That’s ALL Branches not recognizing “Biden” as CIC or President.
Well, that’s because my simple Blueprint formula shows the Laws and Orders that outline the Military Operation and Continuity of Government. 🤓
Too many are still making this way too complicated when our Founders created a Military first…
Might want to listen to the Veterans who know our History plus Military Laws, Orders, Regulations, Codes, and how they pair with Federal Laws, Orders, and Codes.
It’s very FEW of us, but History proves only 8.3% of Population during the whole 9 year Revolutionary War fought… 1.7% a year… that means the other 91.7% were whining, complaining, griping, fussing, arguing, debating, and hiding while a small minority were doing something about it.
As one of the pieces of the Blueprint explains… the Military Justice Act of 2016… Military Laws and Orders and Personnel supersedes ALL things Civil, Laws and Courts.
All it takes is a little reading. It’s very unfortunate certain people still choose Politics over Military Personnel explaining Laws, Orders, Regulations.
But that’s what I’m here for. An appointed time such as this. 🇺🇸

Ok, story time.
I (cis/het F) am a US Marine Corps veteran. These days I am approaching old, so I have seen some messaging about theft and shoplifting over the years.
Back in my early 20s when I was on active duty, I was deployed on “the boat.” Typically when my Marine Corps deploys, we’re on a boat, as in a US Naval vessel, and back in my day, this “boat” deployment was 6 months of smaller “work up” exercises before a full 6 month deployment on board ship. Both services have endless things to say about this. Anyway, for my job in aviation maintenance, working in the rotary wing, “the boat” was an amphibious carrier. It has the population of a floating city. I was one of 30 women total on board, and I later learned we were the very first deployment that particular ship had ever had women on board for.
Firsts like that mean we are experiencing change in its first draft. It was something.
So, naturally, I do my job in aviation maintenance when on board, right? Well, not exactly. Some number of bodies get agreed upon between the Marine units and the Naval ship unit for work crew. That is to say, some number of junior Marines get assigned around the ship for a month at a time to ‘help with the operation’ of the ship.
Right. Must be pretty important work, huh? They sent me to work in the Ship’s Store. Functionally about the size of a small gas station’s convenience store, and roughly as well stocked (as in, you would be lucky if there was anything you actually want or need there; it was mostly snacks. It was also the only place for women to purchase hygiene products if they didn’t already have them packed along, or have someone at home to send them).
Why did this tiny little Ship’s Store need a Marine assigned to help them out? Somehow they argued for it. They had at least 6 regular sailors assigned to the store, but they argued, they needed a Marine to do security {completely unarmed}, to stop shoplifting. Apparently the Ship’s Store was experiencing financially significant losses.
Now for one thing, my own shop in aviation maintenance (Aviation Life Support Systems which means safety, survival, and a whole lot of other gear which was treated as an annoying afterthought) had 6 specially trained Marines at a maximum for a whole squadron of several dozens of helicopters and several dozens more aviators. As designed, we were always understaffed and stretched thin, so my being assigned to the Ship’s Store was not easy to stomach.
So I was assigned to stand at the door of the store during open hours. On my feet, not moving, and limiting the number of shoppers in the store at any one time to four people, and trying to watch them for anything suspicious. After the store closed for the day, they might have me restock shelves, with very little instruction, and the sailors who were assigned to the store had me do this, while they stood around, or did “inventory” in the larger storage room.
After a week of this, the petty officer in charge of the store thought it was so great that he argued for more Marines to get assigned to help the store. I think he managed to get two more. I liked that the other Marines and I could rotate out with each other where we were in the store, meaning we could also occasionally sit during the long days. Once the other Marines were added, the sailors assigned to the store did even less during restocking. We rarely saw them.
After about three and a half weeks of my being there, the petty officer was concerned. He saw the numbers, and not only had they not stopped their losses, they had actually lost even more product in the time we had been standing there, watching everything carefully. Huh.🤔
The next night during restock, when we finished, the other Marines and I wanted to leave but couldn’t find the sailors. I walked over to the storage room — a place I had not really been allowed to see beyond the door — and found all the Ship’s Store sailors sitting in it, relaxing, talking and having a good time, each with at least one soda and at least one snack.
Things started clicking. I spoke to the petty officer in charge.
There had been no shoplifting in the classic sense. My presence was unnecessary. All the losses the store had incurred were through their own staff treating themselves to snacks or whatever.
Their losses were real. Their attempts to counter them were tedious. But they weren’t looking at the whole picture.
Don’t get me wrong. I am resentful. Because I wanted to be in my shop doing my important job that I trained for, despite how many others in my squadron failed to understand that it was a real job that mattered, and despite how much ‘fun’ it was to be among the first wave of women in those jobs in the hangar. Seeing & experiencing that change in its first draft.
Instead for that month, I was diligently assigned long hours to watch carefully for shoplifting that wasn’t happening to begin with. It’s time I don’t get back, and I don’t know what came of what I found.
Did the Ship’s Store sailors change their ways? They could have ignored me easily, since I was sent back to my regular shop just a few days after finding out where their losses were being incurred. I rarely set foot in the Ship’s Store afterwards, as I had friends at home to send me supplies I had purchased ahead of my deployment (well, ‘friends’). When I did, they still had at least one Marine watching the door and limiting the number of shoppers.
But the overall message to me is that “shoplifting” as we discuss it, is almost never what we think it is.
Wear your seatbelts, and be safe, y’all.
"if you see someone shoplifting, no you didn't" no but like. i really didn't. i have never in my life seen someone shoplifting because i'm not watching anyone else in the grocery store..? how are y'all noticing things like that. my only goals are enter the store, survive, exit the store

From the archive: Search & Rescue. Photographing a Marine Corps SAR helicopter doing its thing.
The helicopter slowed to 10knots, skimming just 10ft above the water, and on a signal from the pilot the crew chief began pushing people out of the door, watching them drop into the bay. Not that they minded. Every one of them had volunteered for this. The HH-46E Sea Knight helicopter was one of two that formed the Search and Rescue/Station Operations and Maintenance Squadron (SAR/SOMS) at Marine…

Made a mistake and read the notes so, as one of the many military brats here, let me explain why the Wonderbolts are very clearly a military unit (just for the shits and giggles)
The Blue Angels are a stunt team that is funded/operated by the US American military. They are the jets you tend to see flyover major sports events (or if you have the brass/connections, you get them for your podunk county airshow [my dad was a Presidential Helicopter Squadron Crew chief] much to the delight of everyone wearing earplugs)
The US American Military runs not just The Blue Angels tho, they have a basketball team, football team and a full marching band for every branch in addition to several other performance teams (the most famous internationally is still the USMC Drill line, I have too many Marines in my family if I don't say this they'll accuse me of looking bad in front of the Army)
All of these front facing propaganda teams are in addition to the US American Military's MASSIVE spending on sports sponsorships, movie production and Weird Recruiters Embedding in YOUR local high school. They attempt to make the military Look Cool and they work VERY hard at it. The NCOs who play military band are often directly recruited solely to serve in the band.
The Wonderbolts of course, do stunt flying. And at least in the USA, stunt flying is almost entirely performed by: white millionaires with more money than sense and The US Military. That's it. So, for the Wonderbolts it's quite clear that they are a reference for The Blue Angels and thus unfortunately, have probably dropped a bomb on an Equestria Territory at some point or another
In any case, *I* personally want to see Shining Armor attempt to do Cool Pony Drill Tricks
All your asks are too NICE. Time for violence!! You are forced to remove one pony from the series, who do you pick? Only ponies. Background ponies count but only if officially named.

President Biden Visits Larkspur
The President of the United States flew into Larkspur yesterday, and Marine Helicopter Squadron One landed right across the street from my apartment! It was my understanding that Joe Biden was on his way to Ross or Kentfield for a fundraising event. When he landed, I was in my usual painting spot next to the salt marsh with a brush in hand, trying to capture the scene. Watching the Marines fly…

US Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 26 HSC 26 Chargers Hawaiian Shirt
The US Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 26 (HSC-26) is based out of Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, California. The squadron is composed of twelve MH-60S and two MH-65S helicopters. The squadron's primary mission is to provide combat search and rescue (CSAR) services for the US Navy and Marine Corps. The squadron also provides anti-submarine warfare (ASW) support for naval ships and aircraft. In addition, the squadron conducts humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HA/DR) missions throughout the world. One of the squadron's helicopters, the MH-60S Seahawk, is known for its capability to perform vertical take off and landing (VTOL). This allows the helicopter to be deployed quickly and easily from ships and shore bases. The Seahawk is also equipped with a variety of sensors and weapons that allow it to perform its various missions. The HSC-26 Chargers Hawaiian Shirt is designed to commemorate the capabilities of the squadron's helicopters. The shirt features a green, yellow, and red striped pattern on a white background. The stripes are inspired by the flight deck markings on a Seahawk helicopter. The shirt also features an image of a Charger helicopter on the front chest area. TheCharger is one of the two types of helicopters that make up the HSC-26 squadron.

IMAGES: B-1 bombers make a historic visit to Turkey
Turkish Air Force integrates with U.S. bombers on a long-planned mission.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/02/2023 - 12:56in Military
Two U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancers bombers assigned to the 9º Expeditionary Bomber Squadron arrived on Tuesday (10/31) at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, for a historic hot-pit refueling as part of the long-planned bomber task force training mission.
Tumblr media
A hot-pit refueling refers to the tactic of refueling aircraft while the engines are still running. This marks the first time that U.S. Air Force B-1 has been replenished in this way at Incirlik Air Base. The aircraft stayed at the base for less than two hours before leaving for a training mission with the Turkish Air Force.

The Deputy Commander of the Wing of the 39ª Air Base, Colonel Robert Schoeneberg of the U.S. Air Force, and the Chief Command of the Wing of the 39ª Air Base, Chief Sergeant. Kevin Helms greeted the Commander of the 9º EBS, U.S. Air Force Colonel Lieutenant Ryan Stillwell, and the Sub-Commander of the 489º Bombing Group Command, U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Marshall on the flight line.
Tumblr media
The B-1s integrated with the Turkish military, including the KC-135R Asena refuelers and the F-16 Fighting Falcons, for training missions planned well in advance to practice Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) procedures and close air support training missions.
Tumblr media
“Teamwork with our Turkish air force partners has demonstrated the interoperability and professionalism of NATO aviators,” Stillwell said. “Thank you to the 10ª Tank Base and 39ª Wing Team Titan Air Base for their specialized support and hospitality.”
Tumblr media
Incirlik Air Base is one of the largest military facilities in Turkey and its strategic location makes it a center for NATO integration and the defense of NATO's southern flank.
Tumblr media
“We are excited to support and celebrate this historic refueling operation in Incirlik,” Schoeneberg said. "This demonstrates the unique capabilities and strategic positioning of this base. In addition, it highlights for everyone that Turkey is a critical member of the NATO alliance and that Team Titan is open to business."

Sikorsky CH-37 Mojave
Tumblr media
The S-56 came into being as an assault transport for the United States Marine Corps, with a capacity of 26 fully equipped Marines. An order for the aircraft was placed in 1951 using the U.S. Navy/U.S. Marine Corps designation of the time of HR2S. The first prototype, the XHR2S-1 flew in 1953 and production deliveries of the HR2S-1 began in July 1956 to Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), with a total of sixty aircraft being produced.
At the time of delivery, the CH-37 was the largest helicopter in the Western world and it was Sikorsky's first twin-engine helicopter. Two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engines were mounted in outboard pods that also contained the retractable landing gear. This left the fuselage free for cargo, which could be loaded and unloaded through large clamshell doors in the nose. The early models could carry a payload of either three M422 Mighty Mites (a lightweight jeep-like vehicle) or 26 troops. For storage, the main rotor blades folded back on the fuselage and the tail rotor mast folded forward on the fuselage.
