The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has today confirmed that all primary school children in state-funded schools in the capital will continue to get free school meals for the next academic year, providing £140million extra funding as the cost-of-living crisis continues to hit families. Mayor Khan said that he recognises that families are in urgent need of support. The meals will help with the…

Born around 1953/1954, Al Seif came from the Subai tribe, which has been the rulers of the town of Attar in Sudair, Najd since the beginning of the reign of King Abdulaziz al Al Saudi. He held a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the American University of Beirut.

Anisha 101: Family
Anisha is very close with her mother and siblings and that doesn't appear to have changed since the wedding because she's been photographed with them multiple times.
Siti Mariam binti Isa
Anisha's mother, Mariam, comes from a prominent Bruneian political family with close ties to the royals. Her father, Isa bin Ibrahim, is the former Deputy Attorney General, Minister of Home Affairs, and current Special Advisor to the Sultan. Also, her brother, Ahmad bin Isa, is the current Attorney General and her grandfather, Ibrahim bin Mohammad Jaafar, was the first Chief Minister of Brunei and later Speaker of the Legislative Council.
Danial Deen Isa Kalebic
Danial is Anisha's older brother and a very close friend of Prince Mateen. He earned a master's degree in international marketing from King's College London and now owns a restaurant chain called The Potato Habit that sells fancy french fries.
Janetira Attaskulchai
Janetira is Anisha's sister-in-law and good friend. She married Danial in 2022 but even before that her and Anisha started a clothing company together called Silk Collective. She's from Thailand and her family owns a beverage company called Betagen. Like her in-laws she completed her higher education in the UK where she graduated from Regent's University London's Business School.
Marina Isa Kalebic
Marina is Anisha's younger sister. She graduated from the University of Bath and now works at AlphaSights.
Idris Isa Kalebic
Idris is Anisha's younger brother. He is currently student at the University of Oxford pursuing a master's of philosophy in comparative government.
Adam Kalebic
Anisha's father also goes by the names Ivica Kalebic and Adam bin Abdullah. He is originally from Croatia and founded Fratini's Restaurant in Brunei. Adam and Mariam had a pretty nasty divorce in 2009 and Anisha is rarely seen with him. She has four half-siblings from her father's previous relationships that she seems friendly if not particularly close with. He has since remarried to Dea Roxas.

Sadly your pure love | Ahmad Zahir
Sadly your pure love
Song by Ahmad Zahir (1946-79)
Sadly your pure love took the color of desire
The flame hasty reached the soul of this fruit
You know the hope of my life was your love
You left and took back the love you had given me
Translated from the Farsi by Farhad Azad, with edits by Parween Pazhwak. = = =
Over twenty years ago, I met an acquaintance of Ahmad Zahir, who owned a charming restaurant in Alameda Marina in Northern California. He told me that he had known Ahmad Zahir for the last two years of the singer's life.
He spoke about the curfew imposed on Kabul during the monstrous Khalq regime, how Ahmad Zahir packed his friends in the car and attempted to purchase the last racks of kabobs, tipping the kabob seller's apprentice wads of cash—his friends would heavily protest. Ahmad Zahir would say we should help others in need.
"When you hear his private recordings," he said, "you think there are many people with him, but there were just four or five of us. We would eat and drink, and he would sing with his powerful voice. So powerful, without a microphone, the windows would rattle! He would continue into the night until dawn."
These stories provide a glimpse of a man whose voice is heard worldwide, every hour, day and night. Yet so little of his story is written. What we have are petite fragments of oral history from those few who remain with us today.
For me, this song افسوس کـه عشق پاک ("regretfully your pure love") has a unique place for all those who have lost a love— and we are left with is a bitter emptiness.
The contemporary poet Liala Zaray wrote, "I truly believe there's an Ahmad Zahir song for every feeling."
I wholeheartedly believe she is right because his songs are genuine art that mirror reality.
He never recorded this particular song on the radio Kabul or private labels, and the composition and poet are still unknown to me.
One can possibly hear Nainawaz's roaring voice in the background on the track. Was he the composer?
When I listen to this song, I imagine traveling through time to one of these cloistered evenings. Ahmad Zahir, Kabul's evening nightingale, sings until the first light, and then the winged nightingales carry his place in the garden to rouse the flowers from their slumber. The dew, the tears of the night from his sorrowful lyrics, gingerly fall from the soft petals.

The Last 98 Days
It was still drizzling outside. I put on the rain jacket, got out of the house, and pedaled my way out of the quiet street of Kanayakan and into Dago. It was 9:41 PM, the roads were wet. Glad I wore sandals.
I picked up the Aspero from Bikesystem earlier this morning but I didn't want it to get dirty for tomorrow's morning ride with the homies so I went with Marina again tonight, this time going to the part of the city in the east, down Dipati Ukur, into Supratman, Ahmad Yani and Kiaracondong.
Here it is, the wet season begins now. The day of the equinox might turn out to be the last day without rain. We were blessed to have such nice mellow weather during our ride on Sunday, the whole way from Bandung to Batukaras. Not too hot, didn't rain either.
For few years now, ever since I took up cycling, I get more attuned to the change of weather. I recognize that my outing depends on this natural rhythm. I think being able to engage with this is not a small thing. Nature is a text for those who are literate and I'm just beginning to learn. Now I can tell the monsoon season is near because the Tabebuia tree next door has shed all the yellow flowers, so bright in the summer, and is now sprouting its slender leaves against the overcast sky. The mahoganies, after shedding their leaves in the heat of the dry season, are growing lush once again. Thus, the cycle of life on the equator.
As monsoon is approaching fast, let me lament on something about the dry season that always takes me captive: those moments when you ride through some streets lined with trees, the wind sweeps in, sending flurries of leaves falling like confetti. Suddenly, for just a brief instant, you're filled with so much joy, the kind that brings with it a hint of sadness, adding depth in a swirl of emotions inside your chest, much like the leaves caught in the wind, some of them touching your cheeks. And then, just as quickly, everything passes. You get on to the next moments.
Don’t get me wrong, I love wet season. It’s V’s favorite time of year. I love how the morning air feels so pure, so fresh, especially after a night of rain. Malabar looks even bluer in the south, with streaks of clouds wrapping around its slopes.
I realized I went too far south when I found myself reaching Soekarno-Hatta highway. I set the route on my Wahoo to take me home. It eventually took me through Buah Batu, Karapitan, Sunda, and then the main road of Ir. H. Djuanda.
I know that this is only the second day but I have doubts about keeping the streak, with the change of weather, the full time job, the side gigs, and everything in between. Riding the bike is one thing. Writing something about it is another. But I keep holding on to what Rilke said in his letters to Mr. Kappus, it goes something like: don't blame the world if you find it boring. Blame yourself because you lack imagination.
There must be something to wonder and write about, if you're careful and pay attention.

Africa-Israel: in Cameroon, Eran Moas, a very special “consultant”
“Israel Connection” (2/4). He does not appear on any official organization chart, but in Cameroon, everyone knows that he is the cornerstone of an Israeli system that he helped to establish, from Etoudi hill to the Kribi marina. Portrait of a man with sprawling networks. The alcohol is flowing freely. Behind the bar which runs alongside the restaurant, a cocktail professional handles his shakers with virtuosity, attracting attention. A few bottles of stronger alcohol await their new owner in a bucket filled with ice cubes which will soon melt. This evening, for the privileged (and wealthy) customers of Famous, the trendiest restaurant-cabaret in Yaoundé, the Cameroonian night keeps its promises. It has the amber color of whiskey and the sparkling flavor of champagne. In the heart of the Bastos district, the address has become essential. Samuel Eto'o recently spent the evening there with Fifa boss Gianni Infantino. The artists Charlotte Dipanda and Lady Ponce performed there, like Maître Gims and Wes Madiko.
Among the African and international stars, one man also has his habits: Eran Moas. The face of the advisor of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR, Cameroonian special forces) is well known to the most diligent. On November 3 this year, it is even very possible that the Israeli will come to celebrate his 45th birthday there, surrounded by his closest friends. His 23rd celebrated on Cameroonian lands. In the festive atmosphere, the shadow man of Paul Biya's elite troops does not seem to cultivate secrecy. He feels at home. And for good reason: it is. Described as “the club of Israelis” in the upper echelons of Yaoundé, Famous is managed by the company Danaet. Its owner is not listed in the commercial register, but Moas is one of the main financiers.
From Kinshasa to Yaoundé
According to several of his contacts, the BIR advisor manages (or has managed) the participation of the Israeli community in Cameroon in numerous other companies, such as MegaHertz and Ringo (two communications companies), the Espresso House café-restaurant, or the Safari Club, which became the Trust Club less than a year ago.How did he acquire this central role? Flashback. Freshly released from compulsory military service in Israel, Eran Moas arrived in Cameroon in 1998. He was barely 22 years old. A communications technician, he was then employed by the Tadiran company, one of the Israeli flagships of surveillance and radar technologies. At the time, relations between Yaoundé and Tel Aviv were already in good shape. Since 1984 and the coup d'état that almost overthrew him, Paul Biya has trusted the Israelis to reform his security system. He wants to free himself from the French, who, according to him, are too close to his predecessor, Ahmadou Ahidjo. His Congolese neighbor, Mobutu Sese Seko, introduced him to a man, Meir Meyuhas. This Egyptian Jew knows Central Africa perfectly. A former spy in the service of the Israeli army (infiltrated into Egypt in the 1950s, he was arrested and imprisoned there), he already frequented Mobutist power circles in Kinshasa in the early 1970s. When Zaire broke off its relations with Israel following the Yom Kippur War in 1973, it was he who first informed the ambassador of the Hebrew State in Egypt, one of his close friends. And, in 1982, while he contributed to the training of the Zairian leader's bodyguard, it was still he who was in charge of promoting the reestablishment of relations between the two countries, serving as an intermediary between Mobutu, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Defense Minister Shimon Peres.

Life of a Primadonna isn't what it said to be, learn more in Ain Ahmad's new music album 'Primadonna' and get your heart broken.
This is so dumb, regretting this already...
Her album would be comprised with electropop, disco-pop, and some experimental pop, very Marina and the Diamonds-est obviously.

Race to replace Harriet hots up
The competition to succeed Harriet Harman as the Labour party’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency of Camberwell and Peckham is hotting up with a host of contenders jostling for prime position.
Harman has represented Camberwell and Peckham since 1997, having also represented the previous constituency of Peckham since 1982. Last September she announced that she would be standing down at the next general election, precipitating something of a rush among local politicians keen to represent what was – at the last election – the 19th safest parliamentary seat in the UK.
Two contenders – Sunny Lambe and Maurice Mcleod – are now out of the race. Mcleod, a leading anti-racism campaigner who currently represents the Battersea Park ward in Wandsworth, was controversially prevented from standing as this paper was about to go to press.
Mcleod said he was “blocked by the Labour party machine”, adding: “I am deeply disappointed by this unfair decision taken behind closed doors, which denies local members the opportunity to vote for me.”
He added: “The reasons given are as frivolous as once liking a tweet by Caroline Lucas. This was plainly a factional intervention.” He ended his statement by wishing those who have made the longlist the very best.
Here is The Camberwell Clarion’s guide to the candidates still in the running.
Johnson Situ
Situ – who was interviewed in the last issue – is a senior adviser to London mayor Sadiq Khan. Before working at City Hall he served as a councillor for the Peckham ward from 2014 to 2021 and was also a cabinet member of Southwark Council for five years, helping to create 2,000 local apprenticeships as well as being a key player in Southwark’s council house-building programme. His backers include Rio Ferdinand who said:
"When Dulwich Hamlet FC were forced out of their ground, Johnson fought alongside me to bring them back to their rightful home at Champion Hill. As a councillor he stood by the club during tough times and I know that as an MP he will always stand up for his local community. I'm proud to have grown up in Peckham, and I know that Johnson, like me, is proud of Peckham, and ambitious for its future. That's why I'm backing Johnson Situ as the next MP for Camberwell and Peckham."
Marina Ahmad
Born in Bangladesh, Ahmad was raised on a south London council estate. A trained barrister who has formerly worked for the Crown Prosecution Service among other roles in the public sector, she has been the London Assembly member for Lambeth and Southwark since May 2021. She has previously stood three times unsuccessfully in the general election in the constituency of Beckenham and is currently chair of the GMB southern region race network, as well as the founder of social policy think-tank Race on the Agenda.
Evelyn Akoto
Akoto grew up on the Aylesbury Estate and is currently a councillor representing the Old Kent Road ward, as well as Southwark Council cabinet member for health and wellbeing. Akoto officially launched her campaign to succeed Harman in October and has previously stood unsuccessfully for the position of Labour candidate for Lambeth and Southwark in the London Assembly elections. The mother of three founded the Southwark Safe Spaces initiative, which provides support to domestic abuse survivors.
Peter Babudu
Babudu attended St Thomas the Apostle secondary school in Peckham before studying PPE at the University of Oxford. He represented the Rye Lane ward on Southwark Council from 2018 until 2022, working to reduce and eliminate exclusions within local schools. He is now the assistant director of research and youth understanding for the Youth Endowment Fund, an early intervention organisation that tackles youth violence and crime.
Miatta Fahnbulleh
Fahnbulleh has been the chief executive of the New Economics Foundation think-tank since 2017. She also previously served as the director of policy and research at the Institute for Public Policy Research and was an adviser to the former Labour party leader Ed Miliband from 2013 to 2015. She also worked in the strategy unit for then prime minister Gordon Brown during the global financial crisis of 2008. Born in Liberia, Fahnbulleh arrived in the UK with her family as refugees in 1986.
Neeraj Patil
A doctor and A&E consultant for the NHS, Patil was previously a councillor in Lambeth and was mayor of the borough from 2010-11. He has been a governor at King’s College and St Thomas’ hospitals and plays an active part in promoting community cohesion between Indian and Pakistani communities in the UK. In the 2017 general election he stood in Putney, where he lost to then education secretary Justine Greening by 1,554 votes, achieving a 10.8% swing for Labour.
