Tim Drake didn't particularly like the occult.

But Constantine said the two were their best bet against the demon uprising. The magic-user, howeover, refused to contact them himself, claiming that it was a bad idea to involve them, that they were better off dealing with the problem on their own than . . . outsourcing. Unfortunately, Tim (and the rest of the Batfamily really) was stubborn. If they had potential allies to help them, wouldn't it be worth to take the risk?

This mission to contact those people then dragged him to a downtown bar to talk to famous designer Marinette Dupain-Cheng, who he was ninety-five percent sure was one of the two Constantine was talking about.

Tim told himself that perhaps a little bit of sweet-talking would do. His hand inched closer to hers on the tabletop, but she immediately pulled away. "This night has been fun, Monsieur Drake." She smiled sweetly. "But I don't think my husband will appreciate me staying out late."

She showed him a glowing band on her finger, which Tim completely missed when they met. He, too, pulled away, cheeks turning pink. "Uhh, yeah, sorry 'bout that. Don't let me keep you."

Although Marinette had slipped out, he still had a mission to do.

He decided to follow her.

He knew of her potential danger, signified by the fact that she was walking on a dark, deserted, Gotham street by herself. He held his breath when she stopped right below a flickering lamppost.

She turned around, plump red lips stretching into a sinister smile. "That's quite sneaky of you, Monsieur Drake. Why don't you be direct with what you want, hm?"

And he took a step out of the shadows, dropping his act. "We need your help."

"Who told you about me?"

". . . John Constantine."

Her nose wrinkled. "That soul-whore? Figures."

Tim definitely didn't show it, but the way she stood, her mere presence was unnerving like a beast waiting to pounce. But at the same time, she was so unfairly beautiful even in the darkness.

Marinette smoothed down her hair. "What makes you think we're willing to help?"

Tim's eyebrows raised. "'We'?"

A sudden chill arrived with the wind, summoning goosebumps all over his skin. The lamp switched off in a blink, and when it turned on again, a shadow had appeared beside Marinette, which morphed into a human. Or at least he thought it was a human.

"Yes, 'we'," a new voice said. "She and her husband."

Fuck. The man was dressed in elegant clothes, a perfect match with his wife. His hair was slicked back but with strands softly falling on top of his ethereal eyes. Tim swore those were fangs under his pale lips, sharp like the gaze he was shooting at him. Both his deep blue eyes and Marinette's seemed to shine under the moonlight.

Tim was officially scared. He never did like the occult, but goddamn, the occult was causing his bi-panic.

“Cardinal,” her voice echoed in his mind. “I, Ophelia, wish to grant you the power to help your team in this battle.”

“I don’t need your magic, I need to get to my friends,” Cardinal growled to the Butterfly holder.

“Please, let me help,” she pleaded. “You have to listen to me.”

“Ladybug and I made the perfect plan,” he snapped, his voice low and angry in the telepathic link. “So don’t disrupt it.”

Ophelia flinched from the aggressive strain the man put on her connection to him. The panic seeped into her bones, feeling as though her muscles were trying to break them, her eyes prickling with tears. She couldn’t. She…

She pulled the barrier that masked her when having a telepathic connection. She swallowed, her voice thick, “Tim,” that made his stomach drop. He knew that voice, nausea washed over him, it couldn’t be her. Zoé was normal, she had a regular life, she, she, she couldn’t.

“Please, I- please. I can’t see you die, not again.” Tim’s body felt heavy hearing that, again. When could he have died? He’d know, wouldn’t he? “I’ve seen it too many times. Tim let me help, let me save you just once,” her voice ricocheted in his mind with her sorrow. Tim’s breaths were deep as she spoke, “Please, trust me.”

WIP Wednesday

I actually have a work in progress and am remembering about WIP Wednesday on Wednesday. After reading a fuck ton of Miraculous/DC crossovers, I’m trying my hand at my own Maribat piece. And in a move totally out of character, I’m actually trying to get the bulk of it written before I start posting. Have a taste.

Would You Like to Swing From a Star?

"Hey Damian, Jon," Tim called, waving a bit as they approached. "Didn't expect to see you here tonight."

"Or ever," Jason added with a smirk.

"It's West Coast Swing night," Marinette pointed out, her accent barely noticeable. "The best way to blow off mid-term steam."

Jason's eyes gleamed as he turned toward the French designer. "And are you a swinger, Pixie Pop?"

Marinette side-eyed Jason while considering the translation. "I do swing dance," she finally settled on.  "I don't play on swing sets, and… isn't there a partner swapping swing thing or am I misremembering?"

"You're not misremembering, and I'm once again surprised your vocabulary is so expansive," Jon replied drily.

Marinette nodded and turned back to Jason. "I don't do that kind of swinging. No judgment, but it's not my thing."

"This is Marinette," Damian announced. "She is a veritable angel and you will mind your fucking manners, Todd."

A year after the defeat of Hawkmoth, Marinette is out of school, Guardian of the Miraculous, and unable to move on.

When the Order challenges her titles, Marinette won’t give up without a fight. She arrives at the Order, determined to stay a Guardian and help the Order reclaim their place in the world—all while carrying the weight of her new power and responsibilities.

Fortunately, Marinette has luck on her side.

Damian Wayne is lost.

He is nineteen, out of school, and feels out of place in his life. With no clear path forward, Damian follows his mother back to the League of Assassins to bury his past once and for all. Of course, nothing ever goes to plan. Upon learning that an ancient, magical organization has returned and is demanding his presence as the Demon Head, Damian makes the decision to accept his place in the League—disappointing his father and making an enemy of his mother.

Convinced they can reform their factions with each other’s help, Marinette and Damian must get through new enemies, old oaths, and their own building feelings—all while avoiding their fast-approaching deadline to be Soul Bound. Alone, it would be too much for anyone to handle. Together, they’ll face it all.

Three things.

First, the idea stems from a joke of sorts. Marinette is complaining to miraculous & co. then either Nino, Chloe or Adrien suggest it and then suddenly, the whole Miraculous crew is speculating how they would go about doing this until it becomes a detailed plan. the catch is, they were only planning for his capture.

However, the night the message is sent through to whichever dark web channels was used, Marinette was half asleep. The whole message gets fucked up and it's now a request to kill Hawkmoth instead of detain.

But what are people if not opportunistic? Despite the mild panick, the group decides to go with the flow and adapt the plan.

Second, through whatever channels the new would-be hires hear it, they hear about each other being willing to take on the job considering a) bragging rights to taking down Paris' #1 villain and b) the big payout because everyone's pitchin' in and the reward is sky high.

(I refuse to believe Chloe and Adrien, whom are both filthy rich would not sponsor the idea)

And thirdly, these sly bitches decide to have fun with competing hiree's (?). The group coaxes Marinette, who fronts as a sole employer, into accepting both offers and have fun with the brewing chaos. And now, the whole group spends the week amused as both mercenaries cancel out each other's attacks in order to kill Gabriel who is shitting his pants because holy fuck why are assassins after him.

I don't care who wins (although it would be funny if a third party took him out) but I know a custody battle for Adrien ensues afterwards. We have multiple contenders including and not limited to, the Dupain Chengs, (if it's not an Adrienette story) the Lahiffes, the Bourgeious, Nathalie even, perhaps his aunt Amelie and, AND by some twisted turn of events Bruce mf Wayne.

Maribat but Marinette gets tired of having to look for Hawkmoth and hires a couple different hit-men on him with the promise of whoever can take him out first gets the money (Whether she tells them to kill him or just capture him relies entirely on how tired Marinette is)

Yesterday I RBd a thing where you list your WIPs, then people send you asks about specific ones, and you share a little. @bohemianrhapsody711 asked about these:

Into the Bugverse

I am SUPER excited about this idea, but it's in very early stages (no actual snippets to share, just some disjointed points I'll fill in right now). It is, as you might guess, a riff on Into the Spiderverse. A bit of crack taken seriously where the multiverse is all the fics on Ao3.

We begin with a universe in which Marinette is navigating not to disappointing her parents, who want her to learn the family trade.

Chat Noir, who fought alone most of his life before Marinette was recruited (think of this as kind of a plot divergent Hey, Ribbons by childoflightningg aka @peggiecarter aka @annaethchase), has died (he was Felix Agreste). She's all alone as LB now. The whole of Paris mourns him.

She also meets the new kid, Adrien, and a new Chat Noir shows up. Suddenly, pulled through the "bugverse" into her own world is an older Marinette from another fanwork, possibly Semantitheft's L'Oublie Marinette. They bond while fighting the big bad (imagine a vibe kind of like @leviaana's wonderful comic about Minibug, the jaded older LB who still loves her younger self).

At a low moment for them, other Marinettes get pulled into her world, all from other fanfics. Maybe

a paranoid @buggachat BEAU Marinette or mistrustful one from @wackus-bonkus-maximus One Does Not Love Breathing

Maybe a Marinette from a Coffee Shop AU like Allez savoir pourqois by Yilena who has no powers but is still smart

Or possibly a blog AU like Chat Noir's Miraculous Award for Truly Magical Food by @mommadon. Non-magic Marinette will receive a miraculous as a temp hero!

Marinette from a fic where she's pregnant as fuck but still fighting (the one I'm thinking of it's kind of a twist she gets pregnant later on, so I won't mention it).

Definitely Marinette from Ghost in the Machine by @jheqiawrites alongside her AI companion Adrien.

At some point in the fighting, we find out that Adrien died young in this universe and Papillon and Peahen are the enemies, and they're trying to get the miraculous to wish him back to life.

The Adrien in this universe is actually from a universe where Marinette/Ladybug is dead, and OMG, Marinette, he's Chat Noir!!!! Possibly from Hamburger Ladybug by @raspberrycatapult or from Last Wishes by @kasienda

Blah blah save the world, everyone returns to their universes. Hint at sequel that brings in other fanfics' Ladybug versions! Do we get a transdimentional love story?? Who knows? I DO!! (I don't.)

I think there's something of an ethical issue for me about using other people's Marinettes for my story, but I think if it's crack it's more OK (it's somewhat like parody) than if I were creating spinoffs with the same tone. BC to be honest, I suspect none of the BNFs would ever see a message from me asking permission. Better to beg forgiveness, right?

Miraculous: Bachelorette Edition

Alya, sick of watching Marinette flounder into her 20s, unable to confess to Adrien, submits her friend in secret as a potential Bachelorette for a reality TV show where many men vie for her hand. Through the magic of crack, a bunch of guys from the show end up contestants: Adrien (his father made him), Luka (he's pan so why not?), Nathaniel (STILL IN DENIAL about his feelings for Marc), Theo the sculptor with the bad soul patch, etc. Oh, and much to Ladybug's annoyance, Chat Noir is also a contestant?!

All of Paris is begging for Pajamagirl x Adrien Agreste

This is going through revisions in my head, but the initial kernel that is actually written down in my WIPs is

Ladybug falls in a crowded area and unconscious, de-transforms. Someone takes their camera out. "Don't you fucking take that picture. Hawkmoth can't know who she is!" Some teen girl "Is that Pajama Girl? Annette, I think that's Pajama Girl!" "OMG Charlotte, you're right! "Wait, didn't Adrien say in an interview that his celebrity crush is Ladybug?" "Dude didn't I see that Chat Noir took her on a date to Andre's?" Marinette wakes up surrounded by people, freaks out. "Don't worry girl, we're not gonna tell anyone, and no one took any pictures. Your secret's safe. Later that day, Annette and Charlotte get #adrienshoulddatepajamagirl trending on social media. Gabriel, who turns out to have been full of SHIT when he told Marinette that he determines what the public wants, pressures Adrien to date his Very Good Friend for the brand.

Are you ever going to write more on AO3? Do you have plans for new stuff or updates for WIP fics?

I'm currently hyperfixated on the Percy Jackson fandom and writing for them on my non maribat account- as well as working my way through college while being chronically ill/disabled. I'm not sure when I'll be back to writing maribat stuff. Probably when this hyperfuxation dies down. I haven't even writing for my MHA fics that need updates :(

Tag Team Tournament 2024 - Special Acknowledgements

This year saw a lot of great submissions and great players, and as we love to honor creativity here we have a few special awards to share!

First, we'd like to take a moment to honor our artists, few and far between as they often are:

Both @velveteenshadow and @tree-reads created art for this year's Tournament, and we hope that you'll take the time to check it out.

As usually happens over the course of our Tournament, your creativity takes you in exciting new directions, and we love to see it.

We added a special new bonus for collaborative works to encourage people to work together this year, and @velveteenshadow and nory_gail took us up on that by co-writing multiple bullet fics for the Tournament. Hopefully next year we'll see more creators working together and inspiring each other, because it sounds like they had fun with this.

This year was also the first year that we decided to start accepting chapter updates to existing works, since those are just as exciting to see as new fics.

Many thanks to @olivia-anderson-fanfic for clawing his way out of fandom retirement to update some of his Maribat WIPs in the name of participating in our tournament again. We were delighted to see you back!

Another new facet to this year's tournament came in the form of our Team Playlists, which @newdog14 created to try and inspire you all. To her glee, she succeeded with at least one player.

Thank you @tree-reads for using the Art Couple playlist as inspiration for fics, you made Newsie squeal smugly (which we didn't know you could do) and she is never going to shut up about this.

It wouldn't be the Tag Team Tournament without prompt stacks, though this year only one work took on the challenge of using them all.

A round of applause for @velveteenshadow and Nory_Gail for using all of our prompts in one submission. Bravo!

Last but not least, a thank you to the unsung heroes of several teams, whose dedication ensured their team wouldn't end up in last place.

With the Tag Team Tournament over, our Team Playlists will remain public for all those who enjoyed them. Saw this and decided to do it myself... Obviously no one tagged me. As I carry on procrastinating the final chapter of HYGTG, lemme do this 😂 Also gonna change from AO3 to Tumblr 😊.

1. How many works do you have on Tumblr?

I've got 21 works, majority of them are Enhypen smaus and then there's the few one shots/Imagines. And my longest fanfic which is Invisible a Han Seojun fanfic.

2. What's your total Tumblr word count?

So this is just counting Invisible and the one shots Ive written, 41k... Majority of that is Invisible

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Kpop, specifically the group Enhypen. I add Harry Potter into that.

4. Top five fics by Notes?

Invisible at the top with the masterlist having 649 notes... Ngl seeing this makes me want to rewrite Invisible...

Unexpected Partners has 468 notes. Which makes sense, my Jungwon fics tend to be quite popular.

Peace has 365 notes. This was my first Enha & Harry Potter fic. I do love this one.

You Belong With Me has 337 notes. Another Harry Potter AU with a Jungwon redemption arc...

The Second Choice has 307 notes. Another Jay smau but this one is a Office Au with a toxic bestie.

Honestly apart from Invisible and Unexpected Partners being top 1 and 2, I wasn't expecting any of the other ones on this list.

Yep, I wish I got more comments but I always reply to the comments I do get.

I am very much against angsty endings. Happy endings all the way.

Nope and I never will.

I guess constantly mixing Harry Potter with kpop is as crazy as my crossovers get.

Thankfully no but I'd like for it to not happen.

Harmione {Harry Potter and Hermione Granger}. I am a diehard Harry and Hermione shipper. I just love them so much.

Olicity {Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak}. I was shipping them from the moment Felicity was introduced on the show.

Damianette {Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Damian Wayne}. All my knowledge of DC has come from reading Maribat fics and I do not regret that in the slightest.

Rogan {Rory Gilmore and Logan Huntzberger}. They will forever be my ultimate ship. In my headcanon they ended up together happily ever after.

15. What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Its more like whats an idea that I actually want to write... Its a hard one cause I have so many ideas running about in my head that very few of them actually make it to being published...

16. What are your writing strengths?

I guess coming up with backstories for my characters? Making people care even though you are only seeing the story through texts and tweets? Character development and growth?

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Haha... Everything?

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I think its quite interesting but I would like a translation somewhere so that I at least know whats been said. Unless its important to the plot then its fine.

19. First fandom you wrote in?

Technically it was Pixelberry Choices Mobile Games stories(? dunno what else to call them) specifically I wrote for High School Story and High School Story Class Act. I have since deleted those fics from my tumblr and Wattpad, they are still on AO3 but I've orphaned them.

Invisible my True Beauty fic is the one that I count as the first fandom I wrote in.

20. Favorite fic you've written?
