♡ Tights, Tights, Tights!
♡ Mini skirts are essential

♡ Big, Bold earrings
♡ These boots are made for walkin'
♡ Remember - BE BOLD AND NEVER BE AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT!
Hairstyles:
♡ Generally, the hairstyles can either be relaxed or bumped up to create a nice, half-circle round shape on top of your crown
♡ Hair can be either very long and silky to pixie cut like Twiggy's
♡ BANGS! You need them
♡ If you have bob hair, you can brush them inward towards your jawline. If you have a neck/shoulder length hair, you can do a bubble flip
♡ Feel free to use wigs, wiglets, and hair extensions
♡ Bouffants and Beehives for the Gods
♡ If you have a long hair, do a braided ponytail
♡ Pigtails are all the rage!
♡ Again, DON'T BE AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT!
Makeup:
♡ Have fun with it! You can do a flower-patterned face paint or all over your limbs!
♡ Twiggy's eye look

5 Sapphic Films to Watch This Pride Month
Tumblr media
Carol (2015) directed by Todd Haynes
Films and entertainment remain to be one of the most important platforms for the representation of minorities including the LGBTQIA+ community. Although discrimination has more or less ceased as time passed on since the times of the Stonewall riots in 1969, misunderstandings and hate crimes continue in our modern-day society, and films have served as a source of hope and acceptance for many people. Hence, here are five films that you may watch to feel understood, comforted, and accepted:
Tumblr media
Directed by William Wyler
The Children’s Hour (1961)
Starring Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine, ‘The Children’s Hour’ shows how much change could happen in your life due to even the slightest rumor of being gay or lesbian. Considering the time this movie was released which was in 1961 before the community was given rights, I could only imagine the amount of impact it could have given someone out there to hear Audrey Hepburn say:
You’re guilty of nothing!
This film clearly depicts the guilt that one feels for being so-called different or irregular from others for finding themselves capable of loving the same sex just as any other person deserves to be loved. This was one of the most heartbreaking endings I've witnessed in cinema, and I may follow up with a separate review for it.
Tumblr media
Directed by Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
This film has got to be one of my favorite watches of this year. Not only was it able to take my late-night thoughts about the world and visualize them on screen, but it was also able to depict the hard relationships most kids have with their parents whether Asian, gay, or not.
I’m tired. I don’t want to hurt anymore and for some reason when I’m with you it just hurts the both of us.
It’s hard wanting to love someone that doesn’t accept you for who you are or constantly points out your flaws and denies the person you’ve become, and ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ is an action-packed film that makes you ponder more on that thought and how the world cycles around each individual.
Tumblr media
Directed by Sammi Cohen
Crush (2022)
For quite a while now, people have been pleading for a queer film wherein homophobia isn’t the main conflict, and finally, released in the second quarter of this year, ‘Crush’ delivers the people’s desires. Although it is important to spread the realities of queerness and the harassment the community faces, it is sometimes alienating to only witness films that include the same plot of coming out and not being accepted by the people you love most.
'Crush' is set in a world wherein not only are the main characters queer but so are the background or irrelevant characters. It is written just like any other rom-com out there featuring a man and a woman and feeds more into the fact that queerness is normal.
Tumblr media
Directed by Park Chan-wook
The Handmaiden (2016)
‘The Handmaiden’ sits at the top of my favorite films of all time, in general, and is because of the plentiful amount of plot twists that had me gaping my mouth and gasping unlike any other film has caused me to do before. This film made by the acclaimed director Park Chan-wook is less of a comforting but rather suspenseful film, and what I love most about it is that he managed to create a story centered around a same-sex love trope without having it be the only and complete plot.
If I were asked what movie I would choose to watch for the first time ever once again, my choice would be 'The Hanmaiden' with no hesitation.
Tumblr media
Directed by Céline Sciamma
Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’ is an Academy award-winning film wherein we witness the loss two people have at freely expressing their love for each other through a beautifully written and directed cinematic sequence. Set in the 1700s wherein their relationship could never have been successful with the lives they wanted to live, we are left to only imagine what could have been if Héloïse and Marianne lived in a different time or if one of them had been a man.
This film allows you to realize the amount of privilege straight people have to be able to love however and whoever they want to, while the LGBTQ+ community is almost forced to keep half of their lives unlived, especially in the prior years of history.

Diary of a Junebug
Tumblr media
Listening to our favorite albums!
Hallways - Pearl Kariuki and Marianne Kwan I’ve been looking forward to this album since hearing a sneak peak of some of the songs last year. It’s a labor of love for Pearl and Marianne, especially since this is Marianne’s first album in years. Pearl is an extraordinary producer and songwriter while Marianne has such a hauntingly beautiful and melancholic voice and their talents perfectly compliment each other. All I Gave You is Gone, the lead single, showcases the absolute best of the couple. It’s kind of a heavy album, one that requires your attention and it’s best to listen to it as a whole instead of just picking and choosing tracks. Other strong numbers include the title track, Landslides, Rebellious, and Poem of My Heart.
Listening to this album was an experience and every time I replay it, I notice something new. It’s one of my favorite albums ever - and not because it’s new because I’m pretty sure that my opinion will stay the same after a few months or so.
Sandcastles and Starfish - The Fairweathers Another new release I’ve been hyped about since last year. It’s a wonderful album chock full of great songs that show the band’s growth as musicians. From the winning songwriting team of Jimmy and Nico to Dewey’s humorous and anecdotal lyrics to Lenie’s bright and melodic voice - these are the elements of a Fairweathers album. They still retain their trademark vocal harmonies while expanding their musical repertoire. Lenie shines on songs like Bright and Clear Blue, Reunion, and Crescent Gold - some of Jimmy and Nico’s best songs to date.
The Fairweathers have released hit after hit and they’re still going strong. I’ve listened to every album and loved each one. I remember listening to their first two and wondering how they were going to top off the next one. And so far, they have a good track record of exceeding expectations. I can only hope their fourth album will do the same.
Miracle - Paget Saccone After rediscovering the origins of the Paget Hates Cilantro meme and learning that one of my old friends I’ve recently reconnected with is friends with her, I’ve been getting back into her music. Paget was super popular when I was in high school and she was one of the few teen idols who successfully transitioned away from that image. Miracle was the album that marked that change and now it’s a significant piece of pop music history. The album is named for her signature Miracle Romance, a pop power ballad that became a worldwide hit. Just hearing the first few notes instantly takes me back in time.
It’s hard to believe that in a few years this album will be a decade old. I still think it’s her best album to date, though Sunshine is a close contender. Last I heard, she’s taking a break from music so she hasn’t released anything new in two years and currently has no plans to record anytime soon. I’ve been keeping tabs on her occasionally, though not just for music news but also because she’s been going through a rough patch so I hope things will turn out okay for her.
No Harm in Thunder - Luca Alpert This is an artist I grew up listening to because of my parents. Hearing No Harm in Thunder instantly takes me back to childhood where I’m sitting in the backseat during a long car ride while a CD of Luca Alpert’s greatest hits plays on the speakers. When I got older I decided to dig deeper into his discography, becoming intrigued by his life, which was sadly cut short. I think the main reason why I’m so invested in it is because of the tragedy behind it - a gifted musician and singer who suffered through a lot and just when things were starting to improve, fate had other plans. No Harm in Thunder always held a special place in my heart because it’s my mom’s favorite song.
I happened to find a vinyl copy of this album in the flea market while trying to find a greatest hits album. Finding the original album the song came from is like striking gold, especially a used one in great condition with the liner notes and lyrics sheet intact. Hearing the songs on vinyl gives it a different experience - a warmer sound, sort of cozy and well worn.
City at Midnight - Avery Ronnie Another former teen idol turned successful pop star, and one I had the pleasure of meeting many times whenever I visited the island. Avery is one of those artists who keeps evolving and puts in a lot of heart into her work. From bubblegum pop to dance to R&B, she’s taking on the music scene by storm. This album marks her transition into R&B, a genre that is a perfect fit for her in my opinion. This is the album that got me into her music and made me more appreciative of her earlier works.
The title track is an obvious hit, a brilliant single that topped the charts. The music video is also a work of art worth watching. A well crafted album, one that was risky as it was completely different from the usual, and the effort paid off. I’m looking forward to hearing from Avery in this new phase of her career.
