notes: bro, this guy's underrated as hell. :( time to write some hcs for them! :D

— a really good dancer

— does very good voice impressions (canon)

— very close with their little sister shannon (she's 8 in my au)

   ↑ their mom works a lot and shannon usually hangs out at her friends' house, but sometimes if they aren't available, two babysits her. he lets her paint their nails, do their hair, etc etc. he does all sorts of girly things but he don't give a shi bc they love her sm

— never really made a connection with girls until he met marcia

   ↑ from the very moment he saw her, it was just like an instant click. he couldn't stop thinking about her after they parted and feels terrible for ripping up her number. he sees her again post-canon and apologizes for never calling and to make up for it, he takes her on a date and long story short, they start dating (WHERE MY MAR-BIT SHIPPERS AT??)

— actually kinda misses their dad

   ↑ mr. mathews wasn't abusive, but he wasn't the greatest dad to have. he did actually try to support his family and be there for them, but he and his wife (her name is martha in my au) always got into arguments and it really had a bad affect on two. i mean, he and his dad did argue from time to time, but they were quite close. mr. mathews left a month before shannon was born. (two-bit was eleven at the time.) usually two-bit doesn't talk/think about their dad but when they do it's kinda hard for them 'cause they actually did have a good relationship and had a strong bond that collapsed the moment two realized his father wasn't coming back.

   ↑ he once threw hands with a soc for calling out darry (it was a miracle they weren't arrested)

— dallas is his buddy

   ↑ these two are WILD when they're together. keep away from them at all costs.

— made a bet that soda and steve were dating with dally and when stevepop came out, two marched right up to dally, held out his hand and said "they're datin', five bucks, pay up"

   ↑ dallas was PISSED

— they're one of the only ones who can get darry to act his age (dallas is the only other person)

   ↑ the two of them are childhood besties and sometimes two'll drag darry out to hang out and reminise of the good ol' days (nostalgia)

— had a pet goldfish. keyword "had"

   ↑ fishy had to go bye-bye via the toilet :(

— math wizz. it's their favorite class at school.

— did gymnastics for like, three years and is insanely flexible

Marbit 'meet the family' Thoughts Pt 1

Thinking about Mrs. Matthews whose son has had many exploits, dated around with many girls- dozens even- since the time he was fourteen, but has never once brought one home; coming to her one night, fidgety like he hasn't been since he was just a little lad, wringing his hands and telling her with a grin that he's been going with someone real special and he wants to bring her over for dinner. Marly, he tells her once she's recovered from her shock enough to ask, his girl's name is Marly, and she's got the sharpest mind of anyone he's ever known and shampoo that smells like strawberries, and if inviting her for dinner didn't already make it obvious that he was in love Mrs.Matthews thinks this would have been what gave it away- the fact that he sits with her on the couch for a full hour, beaming and telling her all about this girl she's never even heard of before now, instead of going out causing trouble with his buddies.

Thinking of Susie Matthews, whose watched her older brother pull bottles from the fridge since she was eight years old, who has nursed his hangovers, helpless as he slowly destroyed himself trying to fill the hole their father took with him with booze and blondes and false affection. Thinking of her noticing a change in her brother, slow at first- a night or two when he wouldn't go to the fridge before noon, dressing better, coming home to sleep at a decent hour, then bigger- never going to the fridge at all (not the one full of bottles anyway), then actually getting his diploma. One day she swears she sees a job application on his desk and she doesn't know what to make of it all, doesn't know what could have saved him when she and mom have never been enough. It doesn't make sense- until he sits her down one day, his grey eyes shining bright, and tells her he's bringing his girl over for dinner sometime this week, and what nights is she free. Anytime, she tells him (he'd know that if he ever bothered to pay attention to her for more than five seconds), and he practically skips out of the room to go tell mom that he'll invite this 'Marly' around on Wednesday.

Thinking of Mrs. Matthews, who hears Marcia before she sees her, watches through the screen door as her son picks up a girl she can't quite see yet, twirling her around while she squeals with laughter and swats at his chest without stopping their conversation for even a second. Mrs Matthews who knows from the first glance that Marly is not like them, that she comes from higher folk, but that she looks at Keith the same way he looks at her- like it'd kill her to stop, even for a second. Mrs. Matthews who doesn't worry about it, because she herself loved the 'right' kind of man for a woman of her own standing, and look how that turned out, so what right does she have to try and protect Keith's heart when it is already too late and he has already given it away. She welcomes his Marly into her home and into her heart, and after a dinner where the two kids can hardly stop laughing with each other long enough to spoon soup into their mouths, she gives her a hug and sends them on their merry way to whatever date Keith actually bothered to plan.

Thinking of Susie Matthews who knows before her mother that Marcia Valentine is a soc, who decides before she even meets her that she hates Marcia no matter how much Keith might like her, who regards the dinner as a chance to see how some west side princess will sneer at their greasy lifestyle. Susie Matthews whose hatred wavers when she remembers how much healthier Keith has been since he started seeing Marcia, and dissolves completely when Marcia- Marly, she insists- actually talks to her and seems interested. More interested than Keith is half the time.

Mrs Matthews and Susie Matthews who love Marcia from the day the first meet her, who take this girl and make her a part of their family for all her social status and stuffy upbringing make it so that they should shun her. Marcia who loves them back just as easily, because they're important to Keith so they're important to her, but also because they accepted her so easily when they didn't have to- a courtesy not afforded to her by much of the east side.

“She’s so mother” okay but which one

I just want to draw your attention to something very gently and I’m sorry if it hurts your feelings. When Marcia is recalling the events in the throne room and the queens assassination, she gives two very important details. Firstly, she says that she sees the assassin come in, but she doesn’t realise that’s what she is. Secondly, she says she has to finish Alther’s protection spell for him as he can’t manage it.

After the ten year jump, when she’s hiding Jenna in her rooms and the assassin bursts in, Angie makes a note to say Marcia recognises the pistol the assassin is holding. Marcia then goes AWOL as far as the text is concerned. After Marcia recognises the pistol from ten years ago, the assassin tries to arrest Jenna, Boy 412 thinks she’s coming for him and walks to her, is backhanded away, Jenna tells off the assassin, goes to comfort him, is grabbed by the assassin who does a brief quip before raising her pistol, pointing it to Jenna’s head and cocking the trigger (I’m from England idk if that’s the right term we don’t do guns) and Marcia is not mentioned by one single word. I’m willing to argue here, the act of the assassin bursting through a door with a pistol and a bullet for a royal was a huge trigger for Marcia and she just froze.

However, once the gun is cocked, Marcia does three things in quick succession. She thunderflashes the assassin away, she casts Begird and Preserve, which protects them for the time it takes her to open the rubbish chute and get everyone down and out of the tower. In contrast to the original assassination, she’s ready (after a Brief Trauma Moment) with an immediate attack, a THREE WORD protection spell and an exit plan.

Whatever you do, don’t think about how Marcia, in that moment, did something she’d probably spent the last ten years beating herself up for not doing when he best friend and mentor were murdered in front of her. Dont think of Marcia learning that spell specifically for that moment. Don’t think about the full circle moment of it all.

OKAY OKAY HI :DDD for the director's cut ask thingy

The Long Way Home, because it's my longest fic yet, and while I'd already like to edit some of it it has a very special place in my heart <3

I give you: the mess that is Marcia/Cerys/Milo.

Except today, Madam Marcia had shown up, and had argued with Cerys. That part wasn’t unusual, but this time she’d at least half-way won the argument: His mother had stood back with crossed arms while Marcia had explained to Septimus that Cerys wasn’t his mother, and neither was Milo his father. (chapter 2)

When Madam Marcia had arrived to warn them about the Hunter, Cerys had tried to take her into the Sitting Room in which they usually shouted at each other. Marcia had refused, and had also stopped Cerys from sending Septimus out of the room. “No,” she’d said. “This concerns him, too.” “Does it, now,” Cerys had asked, clearly irritated (...) “Was she telling the truth?” he’d asked. “Am I the seventh son of a seventh son?” His mother had pursed her lips and nodded. “If anyone would know, it’s Marcia Overstrand. She brought you to us, fourteen years ago.” “So the man she mentioned…” “Silas Heap.” Cerys had paused briefly at the top of one stairwell and taken a deep breath. “Yes. That would be your father.” (chapter 3)

Behind him, the great double doors opened again. Out stepped Marcia Overstrand, closely followed by Queen Cerys. They were arguing, as usual, but there was no bite behind it. Jenna was starting to suspect that this was what they did for fun. (chapter 7)

and finally:

She’d asked Septimus about it - he had lived with Cerys after all, and hadn’t just watched her from various corners - but he’d nodded. “I don’t know if it’s just because you’re back," he’d said, and smiled apologetically. “I think it helped, but it’s not quite why. Something happened while she and Milo were staying with Marcia.” “Ah.” Jenna had thought for a moment. “You mean that they’re all dating now?”

I really, really want to write tha fic where those three idiots (affectionate) are stuck in the Wizard tower together. They had a lot to talk about.

Cerys may have labored under the assumption that (first) Milo and Marcia cheated on her with each other (which is SO unfair because she wouldn't have minded if they'd just INCLUDED HER) or (once Marcia told them that his name was Septimus, and once it became clear that "Tim" was the whitest boy who'd ever existed) that Marcia had CHEATED ON BOTH OF THEM (<- girl who was not actively dating Marcia) with SILAS HEAP and then left them with the baby.

In her defense: Cerys had a rather bad 14 years, and a really bad day leading into it. She gets better once the three of them manage to talk for more than 10 minutes without one of them storming out.

Ask me anything (preferably in the replies or reblogs of this post) about Patience, Changing - the novel I'm currently outlining and planning to start seriously writing shortly.

The morning was bright and clear and beautiful, and Patience Shepherd was enraged. It was really too much. She was an only child, for goodness' sake, and suddenly she was going to have a sister. She didn't get an option. A baby she could have understood: but no, apparently the girl was only a couple of years younger, probably set in her ways. Patience was also set in her ways. She liked things to be how she liked them to be, and that did not include a child coming into her comfortable, predictable life. She stabbed at her knitting with too much force, having to draw back the needle and make the stitch again. That only increased her irritation. Didn't Mum and Dad know she was particular like this? Why were they doing this? Patience scowled blackly at the pale pink cardigan, became aware of how selfish she was sounding, and seethed.

This is a possible start to the novel, though I'm not 100% happy with it.
