Power Metal reddit currently has a discussion about Nuclear Blast, about what has changed with them and why, and man I have learned a lot of disturbing facts about what has happened there in the past 5 years. Someone posted an in-depth investigative article about it (from November 2021), which you should read if you speak German and are interested, otherwise or if it's too long here are the main points...
If you're into Nightwish, Sabaton, Blind Guardian etc., this is relevant information.
In 2018, the French Believe Music, which is a large corporation that mainly specializes in digital distribution, became majority owner of NB
Believe is not really interested in physical media like CDs and vinyls even though the people who worked at NB told their new corporate overlords that metal fans like physical media, both because many fans of especially the oldest and most successful bands are 50+ and because it's more ingrained in the subculture. Believe doesn't care and doesn't listen. They have their experiences from pop and hip-hop, where phone-based streaming subscriptions are the norm, and that's all they want to know. They are also ignoring printed magazines and don't advertise there much anymore.
Less focus on physical media means that bands now earn less, that they rank less highly in album charts, which in turn means that they lose negotiation power when they try to plan tours and negotiate with venues etc., because they "look" less successful
Believe has been dealing with this by signing mainly bands that are easy to market digitally and ending co-operations with bands that aren't, even ones that had been with NB for decades (like Rage and Nile, who went to Napalm)
The personal cooperation between bands and NB has really suffered, everything is more profit-oriented and impersonal, a lot of budgets have been decreased and the real decisions are made by Believe in Paris, not by any specific NB team
Believe has been stock market traded since 2021. Their stock value went down at first, was at about the price it had started out at when the article was written - I looked it up and in March 23 it's down 40% from its original value. Ouch.
The original founder of NB started a new label, Atomic Fire, and took "Amorphis, Helloween, Opeth, Sonata Arctica, Meshuggah, Primal Fear, Agnostic Front, Rise Of The Northstar, Silver Lake, White Stones and Michael Schenker Group" with him, also because Believe didn't really do much to keep many of these bands
It's certainly interesting to learn about, also because I had already wondered if NB, and some of their bands, had intentionally taken a more "commercial" approach in recent years, but I didn't know about the Believe thing. I thought it maybe had something to do with losses from the pandemic or something. Turns out they have a new owner.

Misconceptions About No Phun Intended
No Phun Intended refers to the 6-track EP released by Tyler Joseph in 2008, and it is also used by fans to refer to any music made by Tyler in this 2007-2008 period regardless of its actual appearance on the EP. There is a lot of misinformation and confusion surrounding NPI. Underlined words are hyperlinks.
Misconception 1: "NPI is a 20*-track album released by Tyler Joseph"
Firstly, NPI is not really an album. It was a 6-track EP released by Tyler Joseph onto his PureVolume account on November 30 2008. The songs on this original release include Taken By Sleep, Drown, Tonight, Save, Hole In The Ground, and Blasphemy. The most commonly known version of NPI is the 19*-track bootleg (the heading is not a typo, the 20th track would be Chords/Words discussed below).
The aforementioned 6 songs were the only songs released by Tyler. Most of the songs on the bootleg were leaked by allphunintended, aka Joe, on Periscope around 2015. The songs Going Down and Track 07 were discovered in 2018 by ultrawafflehous.
*Edit: Originally said 19 and 18-track. My mistake.
Misconception 2: Minister's CD
For anyone interested in NPI, the first post I would recommend reading is u/AlexanderPANASONIC's "No Phun Intended - Everything We Know: History, Trivia, and Mysteries (Solved?)" post. It is a very well put together deep dive into NPI that is an amazing resource overall. There is, however, one big issue with the post: the theories hinge on the existence of the Minister's CD.
In 2018, shortly after Going Down and Track 07 surfaced, this Google Drive was created by Avizemo. It was claimed that the NPI tracks in the drive were ripped from a CD given to someone by a minister at Tyler Joseph's old church. What was especially notable about it were the alternative names to songs ("Wash Me, Drown Me" rather than "Drown," for instance) along with the presence of "7 Chords and Words," "The One Gone," and "The Trees" (see later sections).
On March 10 2024, Avizemo admitted that the Minister's CD was a hoax. The person who sent Avizemo the CD lied about receiving it from a minister at Tyler's church, and they also created the fake song titles.
Misconception 3: Chords/Words
"Chords/Words" is a alleged NPI-era track. As I have already made an in-depth post about this, I will keep it brief here.
"Words," which you can see here, is most likely an alternative title for Hear Me Now, as they have the same length and Hear Me Now begins with the lyrics "Words of mine/Words of yours."
"Chords" and "Chords/Words" do not seem to exist. Remember to check my other post for more information if you are interested.
Misconception 4: "Goner is on NPI"
Like Chords/Words, I have already made an in-depth post about whether or not Goner was an NPI-era song.
The version of Goner included in most NPI track listings is the 2012 accordion version. Also, this version created by Who Isn't Blurryface is a hoax. Remember to check my other post for more information if you are interested.
Misconception 5: "Trees is on NPI"
Trees is certainly an old song, but at this time we do not have proof that it was a fully recorded NPI-era song. The version commonly featured on NPI track listings is the Regional at Best version.
NPI-era songs were made in Garageband. Songs made by Tyler Joseph in Logic Pro certainly come after this era.

Full article from Metal Hammer 12/2022 that I posted an excerpt from in the previous post. BTW, Impera landed #1 on Metal Hammer’s list of best albums of 2022!
--
It was January 2022, and we found ourselves sitting in the empty lobby of a snug Seattle hotel, overlooking the sunset over Puget Sound while soft rock wafted through the PA system. Across from us was Ghost frontman and mastermind Tobias Forge, and we spent nearly two hours talking about music, family, dogs and the steady ascension of Ghost from spooky Swedish underground band to arena filling titans. But mostly we were there to talk about Impera – their fifth album, then still two months away from release.
In the run-up to an album coming out – particularly one with a highly acclaimed predecessor, like 2018’s Prequelle – artists tend to convey palpable anxiety as they prepare to relinquish control of their work to the world. Not so with Tobias, who radiated ease and comfort. Impera had not yet seen the light of day, but he had already moved on. Looking back at that period today, he explains, “As soon as I am done making a record, I’m pretty much fed up with it. I don’t want to hear it, I don’t want to know about it, I just want to forget about it. Once it hits the ears of people, depending on how it’s being received, that’s where you start from scratch again.”
Following Ghost’s North American tour with Volbeat and Twin Temple, Impera was released on March 11. It seamlessly blended pop-savvy songwriting with elaborate arrangements and steady torrents of anthemic pop metal riffage that created a wormhole back to the lighter-raising, arena-rock majesty of the 80s. From the glass-shattering scream that opened Kaisarion to the synth-rock squall of Watcher In The Sky, it delivered one guitar-powered banger after another.
It was enough to land Ghost their first No.1 position on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart – their fourth Top 10 overall. Even bigger, in terms of vinyl and CD sales, Impera scored 2022’s biggest first-week sales for any album, of any genre. With more than 62,000 copies sold in the US alone, it easily bested The Weeknd’s February CD release of Dawn FM. In fact, Impera claimed the biggest first sales week for hard rock vinyl since Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy in 1994.
Critics united in swift and lusty praise. It might have felt heretical at the time, but many early reviews rated Impera as besting Prequelle on all fronts. Our very own Dave Everley wrote: ‘Impera wins on bolshiness, bravado and skyscraping songs alone. Ghost have turned in a modern metal classic with an arena rock heart. It turns out the Devil doesn’t have all the best tunes. Tobias Forge does.’ It’s safe to say any plans of “starting from scratch” were shoved to the back burner.
Ghost’s official Imperatour headlining run took them back across North America and then to Europe. Despite the lingering ravages of Covid across the live music industry, they thrived. “I am very happy that we managed to orchestrate a somewhat functioning but very successful album launch”, says Tobias. “We managed to nail 70 shows with just one cancellation. I think in this day and age in this year, that’s fucking great!”
Across the globe, stages were filling up with shows that had been booked many years prior. “We had to cut and paste a little with our touring schedule, because this past summer was basically filled with 2020’s line-ups,” says Tobias. “That made our scheduling a little… I wouldn’t say sparse, but we had breaks that were longer than normal. There are so many bands that are doing these weird dances. The last year of releasing an album into the void, with no touring and cancelling here and there and everywhere, and people having to rethink their lives, basically… We’ve been blessed not to have done too much of that.”
Logistics aside, somewhere along the line, that cultish little band from Sweden – the one with the creepy frontman singing about Satan and plagues and empires – went mainstream. Propelled by Impera’s momentum, the band tapped into new levels of cultural saturation thanks to appearances on mainstays such as Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“TV always brings you in front of new people”, says Tobias. “We did [The Late Show With Stephen] Colbert a few years ago, and every time you do something like that, you obviously expose yourself to a new scene of viewers. And that’s always great, unless you completely shit the bed on the air. Ha ha ha! I think we did do a few things this year that brought in a whole slew of new people into our fanbase.”
But ever the realist, he adds, “You might have a spike of people checking you out… but you don’t really notice if things like that had any effect. It’s not like the day after, all of your shows are now sold out and there’s a double night booked into every show you’re doing. It’s such a slow process that you don’t notice until a half year later when new fans come in and say, ‘I saw you on Kimmel’ or ‘I saw you with my dad.’ I wouldn’t say that being on Kimmel changed everything. It’s been slow, step-by-step, but it builds new branches onto the same tree and you keep growing higher.”
And higher they grew. In July, Mary On A Cross – originally released on the 2019 EP, Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic – was used in a Tiktok tribute to the show Stranger Things. The ripple effect was staggering. The song landed in the Top 10 of Spotify’s Viral 50 Global chart. As of this issue, the hashtag #Maryonacross has notched up well over one billion views. Ghost eventually released an official, slowed-down version of the song and the two versions combined now claim more than 180 million Spotify streams and counting. “For us, the Tiktok thing was or is just a giant bonus”, he explains. “That was never something that we planned.”
Surely the unplanned waves of publicity will ferry over legions of new fans, for whom an embarrassment of riches awaits. “One thing that I felt proud over, was the fact that we’ve been around for 12 years,” says Tobias. “We’ve made five records, a bunch of EPS, and I am glad that there seems to be a song that has a way to suck people in. And if they go into our world and like it, there is plenty to find. If you like Mary On A Cross, you can just jump on the train and go where we already are heading.”
It’s been an uncommonly good year for heavy music, but for Ghost it’s been more than a success – it’s been a coronation. Despite their demoniacal appearance and transgressive lyrical themes, they have negotiated the near-impossible task of attracting mainstream audiences while holding fast to the diehards in metal who have been there from the start. It creates the enviable problem of facing a new year with new pressures and heightened expectations. But Tobias has a plan.
“We’re doing a lot of touring again”, he explains. “On previous album cycles we’ve done four legs in America and two or three in Europe and repeated. We’re going to go into every territory next year, but there’s going to be one European tour, one American tour. We are going to do a little bit of everywhere. There’ll be a little bit of something up in upper Asia, on the far end there – a very well-established country with a lot of pop cultural fascination, and the home of videogames. And there’s going to be something in the Oceania world, and there might be something south of Panama, and there might be something slightly north of Panama. It feels pretty solid.”
He cryptically adds, “We’re going to come out with a little bit of change before that – good change. We’re not going to go silent. Some things are public, other things not in public view, but there are a lot of things brewing.”
We are journalistically bound to inquire about the next album and, unsurprisingly, Tobias remains mum. In January, he told us, “Everything I’m doing now is for the next record. I have a vague idea what that will be like and a vague idea of the title and the colour scheme.”
For now, that will have to do, but rest assured that as we all continue to enjoy the masterpiece that is Impera, Tobias is already hard at work, figuring out dramatic new ways to blow our minds. But he still allows himself the odd moment to stop and take it all in.
“To be able to make all of the shows that we’ve done, and to have a record that did fairly well, I think the sum of it is pretty fucking awesome,” he smiles. “I’m very thankful. It was a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck.”

Elvis Presley, "Let Me Be There" (LIVE, 1976)
Source (FULL ALBUM): Elvis Presley Concert CD (Youtube channel)
Audio from Bootleg album "A New Kind Of Rhythm!", released in 2007 by Madison label. This CD contains full soundboard recording from an Elvis concert recorded live at the Riverfront Coliseum on March 21, 1976 (evening concert at 8:30 pm), Cincinnati, Ohio.
PICTURES: Elvis concert Riverfront Coliseum on March 21, 1976 (evening concert, 8:30pm).
FUN FACT: Elvis performed twice that day at the Riverfront Coliseum. For the afternoon concert (2:30pm), EP was wearing the "Blue Egyptian Bird" suit, but at given moment the rear end of that suit teared up due to his movement onstage (no surprise it happened right after Elvis performed "Polk Salad Annie"). He briefly went offstage and changed into the "Rainfall" suit, in which the show moved along. There's another bootleg CD from this concert, with the title "Rippin' It In Cincinnati" (released in 2018 by Straight Arrow label), a clear reference to that one incident onstage. For the evening concert (8:30pm) Elvis wore the "Rainfall" suit again.
After changing his outfit (afternoon concert), picture above shows Elvis showing the rip to his audience. Riverfront Coliseum on March 21, 1976. There's footage of that moment too. You can watch it, here [Dailymotion]. In spite what happened, the Blue Egyptian Bird suit was fixed and Elvis wore it again in many occasions after that one incident.

FULL CONCERT [Riverfront Coliseum on March 21, 1976 — Evening concert at 8:30 pm]. If you'd like to know what EP said about the ripping suit incident (yes, he mentioned it on the evening concert), you can listen to it on this soundboard recording (begins at 29:06). EP mentioned it briefly. Take your time to appreciate the full concert, seriously. This concert is AMAZING! "Steamroller Blues" (at 15:53)? Uhh! ❤️🔥

It's great that after more than 10 years, "Two Shots" and "All or nothing" were finally made into OVAs in 2018.
There's also an original mini drama story written and directed by Shigeru Chiba (Kazuma Kuwabara VA). Part 1 was released in the Music Battle Edition 2 (1994), and Part 2 in the Yu Yu Hakusho Memorial CD BOX (1995). The cast is Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, Kurama and Botan.
"Yu Yu Hakusho Special Mini Drama ~ The Hungry Warriors" (Part 1 & 2)
youtube
This is a drama that makes fun of the lack of eating scenes in anime, where Yusuke and his friends argue over what to eat. Among them, Hiei wants to eat monjayaki. In the manga, when Hiei melted Bui's axe, Kuwabara says "It melted like chocolate''. In the anime, his line was changed to "It melted like monjayaki''. So, it was probably an in-joke between the voice actors, using the mini drama as reference.
I don't know if there's any translations. I remember someone told me they were translating the mini drama, but I haven't heard anything since then. Does anyone know if there's any translations?

Another round of the great CD roadtrip! The one where I try to play every CD in my car by changing them out at each gas fill up.
This was the CD that originally inspired this project, because I realized I’d just kept it playing from March through August. Its perennial listenability is proven. It’s one of two mixes I put together in 2018, this being the classic rock edition. I did it concert style, so it starts with high-energy jams, takes a slower pace in the middle, and then amps up to a big finale. My one critique for this CD is that it’s Nothing But Hits, and so perhaps misses out on additional aural interest that might be captured by some B-side songs. The least “known” song on this is probably “Prison Grove” by Warren Zevon. But clearly that hasn’t stopped me from playing forever and then some more.
This run lasted 380.0 miles from Costco to and around Toronto, and then back to Costco, which I am now parked outside of waiting for it to open, ahaha. Save me Costco

You've talked a bit about your favorite centipedes and arachnids, do you have a favorite millipede? I get super tiny ones in my apartment in the PNW and they're always my favorite bugs to see.
I don't pick favorites, so here are some pretty millipedes from Earth

The Bolshoi - "Away"
The Bolshoi were an English London-based music group prominent mostly in the mid to late 1980s. They are best known for the hits "Sunday Morning" and "A way" or "Away" (the name is interchangeable and has been noted as both on different albums/singles).
The band formed in 1984 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. The original lineup consisted of singer/guitarist Trevor Tanner, drummer Jan Kalicki, and bassist Graham Cox. Tanner and Kalicki had previously played together in the short-lived punk band Moskow, where Trevor performed as Trevor Flynn (his mother's maiden name). Early gigs supported the likes of the Cult, the March Violets and the Lords of the New Church. After eight gigs bass player Graham Cox was replaced by Nick Chown. In 1985, the band released their debut single, "Sob Story", followed by the mini-album, Giants, and their hit song "Happy Boy". Word of mouth was such that the Bolshoi were able to sell out many of their early headlining performances.
The band moved to London in 1985, and their line-up expanded to include Paul Clark on keyboards (born 12 June 1962, Leeds, Yorkshire). In 1986, they released their first full-length album, Friends, and expanded their touring schedule to the U.S., South America and Poland. It was followed in 1987 by the album Lindy's Party, on which the sound was more pop-oriented. TC Wall, reviewing the album in Underground magazine, described Lindy's Party as "completely confident, commercial, professional, and dangerously catchy" and "a fine album that'll be caressed for generations."
Stylistically, the Bolshoi were difficult to categorize. The band has been described as a proto-goth band, similar in their live act to fellow Beggars Banquet signees, Bauhaus. Tanner was recognized for his dark, pensive lyrics that belied a social responsibility and awareness.
After the release of Lindy's Party, the band recorded a fourth album, but problems with their record label management impeded its release, and they disbanded as the 1980s drew to a close. The previously unreleased fourth album, titled Country Life, had been lost for years, but has now been resurrected by Beggars Banquet with extensive help from Tanner's current record label-head and Creative Director, David Paul Wyatt Perko. This new release is now available as one of five CDs in Beggar's 5-CD box set, put out via Beggar's imprint, Arkive.
In December 2018, the Bolshoi's official Facebook page announced that Bolshoi frontman, Trevor Tanner, and Bolshoi keyboardist, Paul Clark, were developing a new project, tentatively titled, The Bolshoi Brothers.

Alton Sterling (June 14, 1979 - July 5, 2016) a victim of a police killing, was born in Baton Rouge. He worked as a CD vendor and had five children. He was known by residents as someone who loved to cook for everyone at the shelter.
Police received an anonymous tip that a man in a red shirt was selling CDs outside a grocery store and threatening another individual with a gun. They confronted him, forcing him to the ground and pinning him down by kneeling on his chest and thigh. Officer Blane Salamoni claimed Sterling was reaching in his pocket for a gun, and fired six shots at close range. He was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back by EMS staff who arrived on the scene.
According to the witness videos, he did not pull a gun or threaten the officers. The bodycam footage of the officer who shot him shows that seconds after Salamoni came to the aid of another officer, Howie Lake, who was in the process of trying to restrain him, Salamoni drew his gun and threatened to shoot him if he moved. The store’s owner, Abdullah Muflahi, confirmed that he, known in Baton Rouge as “CD Man,” had begun carrying a gun only a few days before the incident, citing recent robberies of other CD vendors.
The Department of Justice opened a civil rights investigation on July 7, 2016, and announced on May 2, 2017, that it would not file charges against officers Lake and Salamoni, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced in March 2018, after reviewing the evidence, that no charges would be filed against the officers because they had acted “reasonably and justifiably.” On March 30, 2018, Officer Salamoni was fired for violating the use of force policy, and Officer Lake was suspended for three days for losing his temper.
In 2021, his family accepted a $4.5 million settlement with the City of Baton Rouge. He is survived by his five children, his aunt, Sandra Sterling, the mother of three of his children; Andricka Williams; and other family members. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence #blm

MARSCON 2024 March 8th, 9th, & 10th, 2024 Hilton Minneapolis/St Paul Mall of America – Bloomington, MN Comedy Music Track website: http://marsconcomedy.com Main Convention website: https://marscon.org/2024/index.php
Andy Merrill is a comedian, voice actor, writer, and multi-talented creative known for his significant contributions to the early years of Cartoon Network, Williams Street, and Adult Swim. Merrill's breakthrough role was as the voice of the lovable and eccentric character "Brak" on the groundbreaking animated talk show "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast." Premiering in 1994, this show was a pioneer in adult-oriented animation and played a crucial role in the establishment of Cartoon Network's late-night programming block, Adult Swim.
Merrill continued his work with the character Brak in "Cartoon Planet," a show which started out as a showcase of classic cartoons from the Turner library with interstitial segments featuring Space Ghost (George Lowe), Zorak (C. Martin Croker), and Brak. With the popularity of the interstitial comedy sketch segments and funny songs surpassing the classic cartoons being shown, the show switched to being composed entirely of their sketches and songs, some of which were improvised. On both "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" and "Cartoon Planet", Andy's comedic timing and distinctive voice brought Brak to life in a way that resonated with audiences and contributed to the show's success. Cartoon Network released three albums featuring music from both "Cartoon Planet" and the two-part variety show special "Brak Presents The Brak Show Starring Brak", which are prized CDs of any comedy music fan. Dr. Demento has played many tracks from them on his radio / internet show since the mid 90's.
In 2000, Merrill went on to create and star in the Adult Swim series "The Brak Show," a spin-off from "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" that focused on Brak, his best friend Zorak, Brak's Mom and Dad, and their daily sitcom adventures. The show continued the tradition of having excellent funny songs and musical episodes, and ran for 3 seasons. Merrill expanded his involvement with Adult Swim, lending his voice to various characters in popular shows like "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" where he played the recurring role of Oglethorpe the inept alien invader. As the years progress, his voice work continues to extend to notable shows like "Adventure Time," where he brought his unique style to James the Ice Cream Bar.
Merrill showcased his musical versatility by covering the Suicidal Tendencies song "Institutionalized" in character as Brak on the 2018 album "Dr. Demento Covered in Punk". Some people (or at least some people named Luke Ski anyway) say it is the best track on the amazing collection.
Andy makes regular appearances at conventions in the midwest, as well as performances in stand-up clubs where he brings his ukulele and cracks up the crowds with his hilarious jokes and catchy songs. We at the MarsCon Comedy Music Track have been wanting to have him as our guest for many years, and we are very honored to have him join us as our 2024 Comedy Music Guest Of Honor. All hail Brak.
