5 Reasons Fans Should Watch ‘ONE on TNT IV’
Tumblr media
ONE Championship’s “ONE on TNT” event series on American prime time has been entertaining to watch. And with three exciting shows in the rear-view mirror, it’s clear the promotion is intent on offering a unique experience to martial arts fans in the United States.
Next, “ONE on TNT IV” is set to deliver another incredible night of action. The series finale, which will broadcast live this Wednesday, April 28, is stacked from top to bottom with compelling matchups.
If you call yourself a true martial arts fan, you won’t want to miss the action. Here are five reasons why you should definitely check out “ONE on TNT IV.”
1) ONE’s Underrated Roster
It’s become abundantly clear that ONE Championship’s elite roster has been wildly underestimated. The promotion’s list of more than 500 fighters, including World Champions from various disciplines, is truly full of killers.
That fact became even more clear in the main event of “ONE on TNT I,” where Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson – arguably the greatest mixed martial artist in history – got finished for the first time in his career. And a handful of other former UFC fighters have had a tough time in the Singapore-based promotion.
In fact, four of six athletes who’ve joined ONE from the UFC since 2018 have struggled. More than 63 percent of former UFC fighters have lost by stoppage, and 75 percent of them have lost at least once overall.
This includes Timofey Nastyukhin’s first-round destruction of Eddie Alvarez in 2019, Cosmo Alexandre’s one-hitter-quitter against Sage Northcutt in the same year, and setbacks for both Yushin “Thunder” Okami and Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama.
2) Aung La N Sang’s Shot At Redemption
One of the biggest storylines of “ONE on TNT IV” is centered around the main event. Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang will put his ONE Light Heavyweight World Title on the line, but his defense will come against a new opponent after original foe Vitaly Bigdash was forced off the card due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
The new foe is none other than reigning ONE Middleweight World Champion “The Dutch Knight” Reinier De Ridder, who took the belt from Aung La in October. Heading into that fight, De Ridder vowed to choke out “The Burmese Python” – and that’s exactly what he did in the Circle.
Not much is on the line for De Ridder in this one. He’s coming into this fight with nothing to lose and everything to gain, which speaks volumes about Aung La. It’s certainly risky to put your only remaining World Title on the line against a guy who just beat you.
At the same time, the Myanmar icon will be looking to redeem himself, retain his belt, and potentially earn a World Championship rematch at middleweight. Expect high drama and great action when these two throw down.
3) Eddie Alvarez Will Be Unleashed
After a disappointing night in Alvarez’s “ONE on TNT I” appearance, he’s jumping right back into the Circle. This time, the American superstar will take on long and rangy South Korean Ok Rae Yoon, who became the #5-ranked lightweight contender with a victory over former ONE World Champion Marat Gafurov.
In his last fight, Alvarez was disqualified against #2-ranked lightweight contender Iuri Lapicus for landing illegal shots to the back of the head. While that decision was later overturned to a no contest, it still cost the American his chance to earn a World Title shot.
However, a victory over Ok would thrust “The Underground King” back into contention. And if he wins impressively enough, he might just get the title opportunity next.
4) Hydrated Fighters
ONE Championship doesn’t allow their fighters to cut weight by dehydration in order to meet the stipulated limit. Instead, athletes compete closer to their “walk around” weight and eliminate all elements of dehydration for their weigh-ins.
This means the use of nylon suits, saunas, and other methods of cutting water weight are not allowed. Not only do fighters have to weigh in under the limit, but they also have to pass hydration tests to ensure this policy is well-enforced.
This policy has allowed fighters to be at full strength rather than weight-drained by the time they enter the Circle. The result is more exciting fights that often produce more exciting finishes.
It’s a wonder why no other mixed martial arts promotion has adopted this system.
5) Pure Entertainment
Above all, the “ONE on TNT” series has proven that there is more to martial arts than just MMA. Fans have witnessed some incredible Muay Thai and kickboxing bouts unfold in the Circle.
Whether it was Rodtang’s fiery American prime-time debut, striking legends John Wayne Parr and Nieky Holzken trading blows in 4-ounce MMA gloves, or Janet Todd scoring a brilliant body shot knockout in Muay Thai, it’s been amazing to witness the diversity of martial arts disciplines on display in ONE.
And there’s more to come.
At “ONE on TNT IV,” rising star Jackie Buntan will see action against Muay Thai’s “Barbie,” former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang will showcase his wushu skills against arguably the best pure grappler in MMA, Shinya Aoki, and heavyweight sensation Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane will put his Senegalese wrestling power on display.
Needless to say, “ONE on TNT IV” offers an exciting mix of martial arts – and it’s not to be missed.

Ok Rae Yoon takes the UD over Marat Gafurov.
Big big win for Rae Yoon who takes out a former champion and lines himself up a fight with former Bellator/UFC champion Eddie Alvarez. Gafurov was able to get to Ok’s back in the first and rode out the round from there but he struggled to get the fight to the ground. On the feet Ok was eating him up and when he was on his back in the 2nd, he was landing nice elbows and hammerfist while fishing for a triangle.

Martin Nguyen Vs. Narantungalag Jadambaa: Analysis, Keys to Victory And Predictions
Martin Nguyen Vs. Narantungalag Jadambaa: Analysis, Keys to Victory And Predictions - http://mmauk.net/2019/04/10/martin-nguyen-vs-narantungalag-jadambaa-analysis-keys-to-victory-and-predictions/
Martin Nguyen Vs. Narantungalag Jadambaa: Analysis, Keys to Victory And Predictions
One of ONE Championship’s biggest stars makes his long-awaited return to the cage on 12 April at ONE: ROOTS OF HONOR.
ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen will defend his title against Mongolia’s greatest martial artist and former ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag Jadambaa.
ONE: ROOTS OF HONOR will also feature a second world-title bout when ONE Strawweight World Champion Yosuke Saruta who defends his belt against Joshua “The Passion” Pacio in a rematch of a hard-fought battle from earlier in the year at ONE: ETERNAL GLORY. While Saruta-Pacio II should be an epic war, Nguyen and Jadambaa take the top of the bill.
One of the biggest storylines in this bout is Nguyen’s knee injury, recovery and the layoff since his last bout.
Nguyen hasn’t competed since July 2018 when he lost a unanimous decision to the now former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin Belingon. That match was for the interim title in the bantamweight division. Because of the injury Nguyen suffered, he chose to vacate the ONE Lightweight World Title so that others could compete for the belt in his absence. That title was won by Eduard Folayang, the man Nguyen knocked out to win the belt.
Folayang subsequently lost the title when he was submitted at ONE: A NEW ERA in Japan on 31 March. There’s a chance Nguyen could have his sights set on regaining the title, but for now, his focus is on Jadambaa.
Jadambaa has been the ONE Featherweight World Champion, so he knows what it’s like to hold the gold. Twice, he’s had a shot at Marat Gafurov since his initial reign, but the former champion whom Nguyen knocked out with one punch to dethrone has gotten the better of Jadambaa.
To Jadambaa’s credit, he has remained steadfast in his pursuit of the gold. Gafurov is the only man who has defeated him in ONE Championship. Quite honestly, at the age of 43, this could be Jadambaa’s last real shot at winning the title again with the promotion. He must seize the moment.
Let’s look at the different areas of both martial artists’ game to see who has the edge.
  The Striking
.
The champion has shown us time and again, he possesses the kind of electrifying one-punch power that can put his opponents out with one strike. He’s done it on multiple occasions and on the biggest of stages. Jadambaa is a tough guy, but he cannot afford to allow Nguyen to square him up for one of those bombs. Nguyen is a rather unorthodox striker, so it is difficult for opponents to see the punches coming, and that’s part of what makes him so tricky.
That’s not the case with Jadambaa. His hands aren’t as quick as Nguyen’s and he tends to load up his right hand. While he has heavy hands, a slick counter striker like Nguyen may be able to time Jadambaa and land. Jadambaa hasn’t proven to be the most difficult target. His head movement is only decent, and that might be something Nguyen and his team have already honed in on as the match approaches. Because of these points, Nguyen gets the advantage in striking.
  The Grappling
Jadambaa has fallen victim to rear-naked chokes in both of his losses to Gafurov. He can get careless in scrambles and give up his back to an opponent. When he does that, he exposes himself to chokes, and that’s another thing that won’t be lost on Nguyen. Before Nguyen scored memorable KO wins over Gafurov and Folayang, The Situ-Asian was known primarily for his grappling and submissions. He still has that skill set to fall back on in this bout, and while he’d probably love another noteworthy KO, you have to think he’ll take a submission opportunity if it is presented.
  The Experience
On the surface, it may appear as though the experience category is somewhat even. That’s the case as it pertains to mixed martial arts, but the 43-year-old Jadambaa has been competing in combat sports for decades. The match with Nguyen will be his 20th pro-MMA bout and just the 15th for the champion. This is a tough one to call, so let’s call it virtually even, with a slight edge to Jadambaa.
  Keys To Victory
Jadambaa must make this an ugly bout. He has to turn it into a brawl with tons of clinching, and hope that Nguyen’s conditioning isn’t up to par after his layoff. If he can drag the bout into the late rounds, he might have a chance to take advantage of what he hopes will be a compromised champion. Nguyen must be patient and stay ready to pounce on the striking opportunities that seem certain to be presented.
  Prediction
Expect Nguyen to land a heavy counterpunch that wobbles Jadambaa. However, the Mongolian is as tough as they come. Nguyen will have to take the neck and sink in the choke for the submission win.
