Léonie Belanger-Leblanc is a dear little friend and a girl after my own heart. She understands the spirit of adventure. She's always ready to explore the unknown; to see what's around the riverbend, what's behind the mountaintop, and what's over the horizon. Her curiosity about the natural world is never fully satisfied, because there's always more to discover.... just beyond.

Léonie observes the world around her and listens to the stories it tells her. She's ever willing and excited to learn more.

I don't live in Canada like Léonie, but I appreciate the love she has for Canadian culture and geography, just like all Maplelea girls do. And I'm glad Maplelea exists as a counterpart to American Girl. Often it seems that American culture dominates every aspect of life even outside of the United States, so it's good to know that Canadian kids have dolls and toys to reflect their own lives and cultural experiences.

I've explored this particular canyon many times before, but it changes so much through the seasons that there's always something new and unexpected to see. In winter it's often snowy and the creek is icy. In spring it's muddy and the trees are turning green. In early summer it's shady and lush, and in late summer the creek is full of monsoon rain. In autumn the oaks and willows show beautiful colors.

It was especially fun to see it through Léonie's eyes. For children, ordinary things are new and exciting.

When Léonie gets bundled up into her warmest clothes, nothing can stop her from an adventure. The snow is perfect for snowshoeing, and she has me check the ice to make sure it was safe to be on it. She usually prefers to play hockey when the creek freezes, but today she's just happy to skate.

Léonie's outfit, like Léonie herself, is Maplelea brand. Her ice skates are American Girl and her snowshoes are Our Generation.

Randomly came across your post for the Maplelea Percy Jackson AU about travel times, and wow Camp Half Blood needs a Canadian branch with times like that. Very impressive for them to make it. Did you ever share your ideas for the Maplelea girl’s godly parents? Couldn’t find the post if you did

I'm still working on it but here's my concepts so far:

TW: Food Hi everybody today’s photo for Day 22 of A Very Dolly Christmas Countdown 2023 is inspired by seeing Wonka yesterday with my dad. I had a fantastic time. My Maplelea Girls doll Léonie is enjoying a chocolate lollipop that my dad surprised me with this morning. When Léonie is in the mood for coffee, she always chooses a classic Canadian favorite, Tim Horton’s! She and her friend visiting American friend, Geraldine, are also splitting a plate of Timbits, which are little donut holes. 

I made the red coffee cup by printing a logo onto construction paper. The Timbits are balls of clay glazed with white glue and cornstarch. Geraldine’s blended coffee is paint and silicone caulk. I also made the backdrop, table, and both chairs. The cute cermaic plate is a flea market find.

Fabulous

Cross-country skiing with Léonie, who loves any and all winter sports! She moves at a leisurely pace to take in the quiet woods and the gently falling snow. 

Did you know…. if Corinne’s downhill skiing doesn’t sound appealing to you or your doll, then you might like cross-country skiing instead. It’s loads cheaper both for the gear and the access to trails, much safer with less risk of injury, easier to learn with no lessons required, and you can set your own pace and speed. If you don’t want to go fast, you don’t have to. If you want to stick to flat terrain, you can. You’re free to take your time and enjoy the scenery. It’s also good cardio exercise, since you are using your arms and legs to propel yourself forward. I’ve done it myself, several times, and really liked it. If you live somewhere that gets snow, check out ski resorts or Nordic centers to see if they offer cross country.

Sierra (in the middle) is an outgoing kid with lots of friends. All of my non-AG 18 inch modern dolls are part of her friend group! It’s neat to see this diverse group of girls all together.

This is excluding my two Magic Attic Club dolls since they’re 1990′s historical characters. And Léonie is a Sierra’s Canadian pen pal who doesn’t live locally, but does visit sometimes.
