What are your plans for Canada Day?
as usual i make a bunch of dessert and contemplate colonialism and wtf we can do to be worth celebrating this year. sugar helps with this.
i've been disenchanted with the maplewashing for a few years now and while i'm not against the idea of having a holiday i think we really need to rethink what that means and how that image diverges from reality. It should be a time of honest reflection and vision for the future and not a glorification of the values we set in the 60s and failed to reach or whatever.
like yeah being canadian is a large part of my identity and heritage, i don't have much else to fall back on, and i do like using it as an opportunity to try out different regional dishes and to enjoy the summer But i do think the things canadians like to celebrate about how Great we are and how Isnt it Lovely how Understated our Celebrations are Compared to Americans is such surface level bullshit and I'm tired of it and I'd like it to be reoriented towards acknowledging where we aren't and where we'd like to be rather than what we think we are as we bury the realities.
the city hasn't cancelled the fireworks although a few summers ago i remember getting stranded at the LRT station in a huge throng of people and i dont like that normally and i don't like that even more during a pandemic so I'll most likely stay home and listen to music and try to prepare for getting my covid shot the day after.

Easy Steps to Do Hand-Washed Car Wash.
Whether you utilize a drive-through car wash or believe that should do it without anyone else's help, it's vital to comprehend how to appropriately hand wash your car. This can safeguard your paint and increment resale esteem.
Begin by getting two cans, one with cleanser and the other with clean water. Plunge your microfiber glove or wipe it into the sudsy pail every two or three minutes.
Maple Carwash, situated in Kingston, Canada, specializes in meticulous hand-washed car washing services. They offer comprehensive car washing and vacuuming for just $15.
Tumblr media
Start at the Top.
Not at all like at a programmed car wash, where the development of the hose and water can rub coarseness into the paint, hand washing is finished with accuracy and care that outcome in a superior degree of tidiness. Additionally, on the off chance that you utilize the right procedure, it tends to be speedier than going through a programmed wash.
Wash the wheels first with a pail of lathery water to dispose of free soil and begin separating stuck-on grime. Then, at that point, change to one more container with lathery water and plunge your microfiber wash glove into it. Begin cleaning in straight lines and stay away from roundabout movements to forestall dirtying regions you've quite recently cleaned.
The two-can strategy limits the gamble of scratching the car's paint by keeping one container with grimy water and the other for flushing the wash glove. It's likewise an incredible method for monitoring what portion of the car you've proactively washed to try not to miss any spots.
Move Down.
Hand washing permits you to arrive at the little hiding spots of your car that machines can't get to. Nonetheless, a tedious cycle can make harm your car's paintwork when inappropriately finished. Scouring with wipes and clothes can scratch your car's surface, and cleanser buildup can leave marks.
Ensure your wash site is clear of flotsam and jetsam that could scratch your car's completion like branches, twigs, leaves, and bird droppings. The space ought to likewise be situated in a bright area to assist with drying the car quicker and forestall water spots from showing up.
When you have your site, set up two cans; one for cleanser arrangement and the other for washing. Add a Soil Trap wash screen to the lower part of each container to trap any grating soil and garbage before it is flushed away. Then, fill the cleanser can with Synthetic Folks Vehicle Wash Cleanser and plunge your lambswool glove into it.
Tumblr media
Rinse.
PRO: Better Reach. Not at all like programmed car wash gear, hand washing permits you to get to that hard-to-arrive region of your car. You additionally have command over the synthetic substances and cleaning items used to clean your car, which will be a lot more secure for your paintwork. This incorporates ensuring the cleanser is pH-adjusted and that it doesn't contain abrasives, which can harm your car's completion.
As you wash your car, make sure to utilize straight movements and dunk your glove or wipe in the cleanser pail every two or three minutes to eliminate soil particles from the surface. It means quite a bit to track down an obscure spot, as immediate daylight will make the cleanser dry and dissipate all the more rapidly. At the point when you are done, make a point to put your glove or wipe back in the cleanser container and wring it out so you leave no overabundance of cleanser on your car. Then, you're prepared to move on to the following segment of your car.
Dry.
A hand wash might appear to be overwhelming, yet it's an incredible method for scouring a car and arriving at the little hiding spots that machines can't. This technique is additionally generally reasonable contrasted with different kinds of car washing, just requiring cans, top-notch wipes and wipes (like the ones we offer at CleanTools), cleanser, and water.
It's critical to utilize the right method while doing a hand-washed car wash. If not, you could miss a couple of regions and your car won't look as perfect as you'd like it to be. We suggest utilizing a straight ever-changing movement like Mr. Miyagi's lessons in the Karate Youngster to try not to miss any boards.
Another key tip while doing a hand-washed car is to dry the car with a drying towel that is made of microfiber material, so you don't get water spots on your newly washed car. A microfiber drying towel is practically indistinguishable from a normal shower towel, yet retaining more water than conventional towels is bigger and planned.

Why Not to Wash Your Car in the Sun?

Try to do carwash and detailing when it is cloudy or at the coolest time of the day to avoid this. You ought to likewise work in more modest portions as opposed to one full board, washing a smidgen of the car at a time.

Regardless of whether the sun is out, the air is hot and humid, making it hard to wash your car. Because of this humidity, soap suds may dry too quickly, resulting in water spots and streaks on your car's bodywork.
Either at night or early in the morning is the best time to wash your car. Along these lines, you can work quicker and abstain from drying out your cleaning items.
If you have to do car wash on a sunny day, use soap that repels water of high quality and acts quickly. Additionally, you should rinse each area as soon as possible to prevent the soap from drying. Swirl marks and other paint damage will be prevented by this.
4. It's too tiring.
Washing your car on a sunny day can be extremely exhausting. This is particularly evident on the off chance that you utilize a sprayer or wash can and work a huge region at a time. Keep the car as wet as possible and work quickly because of this.
The best chance to wash your car is in the shade early or late in the day when the sun isn't straight above it. A spray wax or drying aid to lubricate the surface while it is drying is also helpful.
As well as car washing, it means a lot to look out for leaves, twigs, and sap as they fall on the newly washed car. These should be removed as soon as possible to prevent damage because they can scratch the paint.

1. Using the Wrong Products.
Detailing is an important part of keeping your car looking its best, whether you want to keep its value up or just keep it in perfect condition. There are numerous items available that can assist you with getting your car clean without harming it.
Dish soaps and detergents are perfect for cutting oil and soil, however, they can likewise strip away car waxes and sealers. That can have a big impact on the paint job on your car.
Another common error is using a drying towel as a cleaning tool improperly. The purpose of drying towels is to provide a gentle, contaminant-free wipe that will not harm your paint.
While you're utilizing a drying towel, it can without much of a stretch get soil that isn't washed off yet, which will make miniature scratches in the paint. Using a drying towel on a car with paint on it is not a good idea because this can cause a lot of damage. For this purpose, a wash mitt made of microfiber is the best choice.
2. Using the Wrong Applicator.
Using the wrong applicator can damage your paint and cause scratches. This is particularly obvious if you're utilizing an old cloth to apply any of the items we've discussed up until this point, for example, a car wash cleanser or itemizing cleaner.
A professional microfiber towel should be used as the appropriate applicator. This is the best sort of towel to use for various reasons, yet principally it assists with getting dry your car appropriately and productively without leaving any water spots behind on your car's paintwork.
One of the most common errors made during the car wash and detailing process is applying the product with the wrong applicator. To avoid this, it is essential to carefully read the directions before beginning any work, and you should only use products that are specifically recommended for the task at hand. Then, at that point, make certain to give the item sufficient opportunity to do its thing for the greatest outcomes. Additionally, it's a good idea to work in a well-lit area, like a garage or covered patio, to protect your paintwork from UV rays.
3. Using Hard Water.
When washing your car, the right water is essential. Even though it might not seem like a big deal, using the wrong kind of water can lead to a wide range of issues.
Minerals in hard water can leave spots and make soap less effective. Your detailing and car washing equipment's performance may also be affected by these minerals.
Using soft water is one of the most common ways to avoid these problems. Soft water is less likely to leave soap scum and water spots because it is easier to rinse.
Additionally, it is less likely to result in scale buildup in plumbing fixtures and appliances.
Additionally, using soft water will keep your car clean for a longer period and prevent rust buildup. Moreover, utilizing delicate water assists you with getting a good deal on items by not expecting to purchase so a lot.
4. Neglecting to Dry.
One of the more serious car wash and detailing slips up is neglecting to dry the surface. This can result in a variety of issues, including uneven drying and water spots.
The best way to make your car look and feel its best is to wipe down the entire car with a towel made of microfiber. You might also want to get a car dryer that only uses air to dry the car.
Using a high-quality product to spray the car's windows is a great idea, but you don't have to go overboard. The equivalent can be said for utilizing a decent vacuum to eliminate residue and garbage from the car's inside surfaces.

So my political/activist reblogging mostly falls into one of two categories: "I'm (almost) an information professional" and "I'm a concerned Canadian" (generally tagged as "my masters in internet meta" and "maplewashing" respectively) We all know by now that I'm regrettably inconsistent with my tagging but please, if you need me to tag something more specific please tell me (and if you need me to work on my consistency, I promise I will be more consistent if its for someone else and not just my own (dis)organization)

Call it Canadian inferiority complex but it hadn't really occurred to me that other countries would notice our news? The outpouring here (and admittedly, here where I am isn't necessarily representative of more rural areas) has been so consistent and sincere and widespread, from individuals and institutions and politicians and media of all stripes, that it hadn't occurred to me that other countries would be spinning this tragedy for themselves. What the fuck.

I've recently learned of the term "maplewashing" and that's exactly what I would describe that last line as. Too often Canadians like to act like we have historically been sooo superior to the US when really, we have a pretty long and dark history too. Don't get me wrong, I love Canada too. It's the only home I've ever known and I am incredibly lucky to have been born here. HOWEVER, that does not mean that I shouldn't also acknowledge and discuss its shortcomings. This is one of them. The last Canadian residential school closed in 1996... that's when my older sister was born. This isn't an atrocity far in the past, this is extremely recent history still. And while the final school may have closed in '96, the government absolutely went on intentionally covering up or glossing over this history in the class room. My older sister never once learned about residential schools. Neither did I. It is only my younger sister who has gotten an education on it and that is only because her specific teacher decided to slip it into a lesson, not because it was originally in her history course. I only learned of residential schools quite recently in 2016 when Gord Downie (Former singer for The Tragically Hip, R.I.P.) made an album, film, and novel about the story of a young native boy who died after escaping a residential school and trying to make it back home. His name was Chanie Wenjack btw, and he was 12. This is only one of the many terrible things Canada has done in its history, many of which we do not acknowledge but instead brush under the rug to maintain our "nice" status and to make ourselves feel like we are so much better than Americans. Guess what Canadians, we aren't as different from them as you would like to think. How's about instead of stroking our own egos for being such a great country, we act like it.
