New Gastronomic Thrills at The Shops at the Boulevard in City of Dreams Manila
More dining experiences beckon at City of Dreams Manila as new restaurants open at The Shops at the Boulevard. With the addition of Italian, Thai and Korean outlets and a popular local café, the integrated resort further steps up its evolving dining landscape with diverse gastronomic offers. Adjacent to Jing Ting and Hidemasa, the newly opened Rossi Pizza is a casual trattoria that boasts of Roman-style pizza, bringing in the expertise of Italian pizza masters to Manila. The popular Roman-style pizza known for its scrocchiarella (light, crispy texture) characterizes Rossi’s dough, which consists of a mix of five different flours made with entirely Italian grains, water, olive oil, and salt, is matured in 18 hours of low temperature, following a recipe that is a result of intensive study of pizza in Italy. The highest quality imported ingredients, with sustainable and plant-based options complement the famed scrocchiarella crust. Rossi uses a purpose-built Moretti Forni Oven to consistently deliver authentic Roman-style pizza experience that diners will enjoy in a typical trattoria.
Among the chef’s recommendations are: Capricciosa pizza (with, prosciutto cotto, champignon, artichokes, and olives); the classic Margherita with basil; Quattro Formaggi (with parmesan, gorgonzola and taleggio cheeses). Vegetarians will delight in the Funghi (creamed mushrooms, roasted mushrooms, vegan TVP and arugula); and Vegana (eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, and onion). Rossi’s pasta favorites are also available: Rossi’s Carbonara (spaghetti, egg yolk, pecorino cheese, and guanciale cured pork); Fettucine con Polpette alle Abruzzese (medium ribbon pasta, beef and pork mortadella meatballs, and tomato sauce); and Spaghettone “Mancini” alle Vongole (spaghetti with clams from Bicol in olive oil, garlic, and white wine sauce). Salads, snacks, desserts, and an extensive selection of gelato complete the menu. Rossi seats up to 72 guests and is open daily from 12 noon to 9 p.m.
Explore Thai cuisine served in a contemporary stylish ambiance at Mango Tree. The 148-seater restaurant with private dining rooms that seat 10 to 70 diners is well-loved for its authenticity in offering cuisine from the four regions of Thailand, as offered in the heart of Bangkok where the restaurant chain was founded in 1994. Among the chef’s recommendations are: Pla Neung Ma-naow or Steamed Sea Bass with Lime Sauce (sea bass, chili, lime, lemongrass, basil, tom yum, served with seafood sauce) Phad Phong Ka Ree or Stir-fried Crab in Curry Sauce (signature crab meat with egg and yellow curry sauce); Massaman Kha Gae or Mussaman Australian Lamb Shank (slow cooked lamb shank with mussaman curry, potatoes, peanuts, onion); and Phad Thai Goong (stir-fried rice noodles with shrimp, roasted peanuts, tofu, chili flakes, bean sprouts, lime, and egg net). The eighth Mango Tree outlet in the country is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sundays to Thursdays, and until 12 midnight every Fridays to Saturdays.
Diners on the lookout for the newest authentic Korean barbecue experience at the resort can head out to J. Park Garden and savor popular samgyeopsal with traditional grill-in-table in a modern setting. Premium sampgyeopsal, Korean beef, Wagyu, US beef ribs, and other excellent meat choices are available, along with an extensive selection of ala carte fare including all-time favorite Korean stews and soups such as Bulgogi Jeongol(beef hotpot) and Kimchi Jjigae (kimchi stew); noodle dishes such as Mul Naengmyeon (cold wheat noodles), and Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables); and other well-loved snack items like teokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cake), gimbap (seaweed rice roll), and mandu (dumpling). J.Park Garden can seat 76 guests and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m.
Café Mary Grace is the home of the ensaymadas and cheese rolls that Filipinos love. Apart from the extensive selection of bestselling fresh-from-the-oven pastries and cakes, Café Mary Grace also offers hearty meals including all-day breakfast items, soups, salads, pastas, and sandwiches complemented by signature drinks including their famous hot chocolate. Café Mary Grace is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sundays to Thursdays: 11:00 - 23:00 and from 10 a.m. to 12 midnight every Fridays to Saturdays.
Other outlets at The Shops at the Boulevard are Red Ginger, Hidemasa, Café Society, Jing Ting, Modern Table 082, and Starbucks Café, which complement the luxury integrated resort’s signature restaurants Nobu Manila, Crystal Dragon and Haliya. Besides the vibrant dining landscape at the upper ground level of City of Dreams Manila, the retail strip is also home to some of the world’s most sought-after brands and stores that provide indulgent shopping-therapy for the most discerning of cosmopolitan shoppers. These shops are Mont Blanc, Hugo Boss, Bally, Coach, Furla, Eye Society, Ray-Ban, Estee Lauder, Lacoste, Resveralife, Kultura, G Shock, Seiko, Pandora, Owndays, Apple premium store Beyond the Box, and Tempus, which offers Swiss-made watches including Rado, Tissot, Frederique Constant and Alpina.

No pork...no problem. Here's the best fish ever! Pla Krapong Neung Ma Now. The sea bass is served in a tangy and tasty broth, with seafood chili sauce on the side. The broth bursts with refreshing flavors from lemongrass, lemon, galanggal (ginger family), kaffir lime leaves, and garlic. Smother the fish with the sauce that has a lot of garlic and chili. I highly recommend you try this. I enjoyed it even more with the extra helping of the seafood chili sauce. Mango Tree Celebrates 12th Anniversary by Partnering with Local Farms for Sustainable Agriculture
To celebrate its 12th year in the Philippines, Mango Tree partnered with local farmers as a way to support locally grown produce and promote sustainability. This advocacy was initiated during the height of the pandemic when farmers had difficulty selling and disposing their products due to the strict lockdowns and travel restrictions. Now that operations are getting back to normal, Mango Tree is continuing these sustainable practices and applying them to all their restaurants in the country.
The special 12th Anniversary celebration was held last June 22, 2022 at one of the newest branches of Mango Tree in City of Dreams Manila. The Hungry Kat was invited to join the festivities together with other media friends and industry partners. It was my first time to visit this particular branch which had just opened in April, so it was a great opportunity to get together with a few longtime friends and to be back at one of my favorite hotels in the city.
The City of Dreams Manila branch is quite different from its other locations as it comes with a spacious open dining layout with lofts and high ceilings. The Mango Tree brand entered the Philippine in 2010 with Mango Tree Bistro and Mango Tree restaurant. Just recently, they also opened the new Mango Tree Cafe concept as a more casual dining option. Today, there are 9 restaurants under Mango Tree’s belt in the country.
The first Mango Tree restaurant opened its doors in 1994 in the heart of Bangkok, offering an exciting menu of healthy and authentic Thai cuisine from the 4 regions of Thailand. With a global presence of over 50 restaurants across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, Mango Tree has delighted diners worldwide with its unique take on Thai culinary traditions. The interiors of Mango Tree COD comes with the design of a Thailand-inspired home which also adds to the authenticity of its dishes.
As one of the biggest branches, the City of Dreams Manila location offers 7 VIP Rooms on the second floor which can be combined for groups of 10-50 persons. This is where our anniversary celebration was held that afternoon.
Sharing the table with me was my friend, celebrity Chef Sharwin Tee, and Ms. Gwen Jacinto who handles the public relations for Mango Tree Philippines.
Mango Tree President and CEO Eric Teng welcomed the guests as he briefly discussed the history of Mango Tree in the Philippines and how his new advocacy was born out of the pandemic. With an increasing interest in sustainability and environmentally friendly practices, consumers have shifted their behavior to supporting locally made products. Mango Tree strives to create extraordinary meals from the simplest of ingredients, and in adopting a farm-to-table concept, crops will be directly sourced from local farms as much as possible—making local produce more accessible and enjoyed by their customers.
During the pandemic, The Quezon City government launched the Joy of Urban Farming project which was created to mitigate hunger and encourage livelihood in agriculture. This initiative also aims to further promote the importance of urban farming and empower the livelihood of urban dwellers by producing fresh and healthy vegetable crops. One of the farms under this project is the New Greenland Farm.
Situated in Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City, New Greenland Farm started out as a 2-hectare area and has expanded to over 10-hectares of cultivated land with the support of local communities and the local government which envisions transforming over 30 hectares of unused land into agricultural gardens to address food security for all citizens. These farms are expected to produce over 756 metric tons of vegetables including eggplant, string beans, pechay, mustasa, squash, kamote tops, spinach, okra, and many more seasonal crops every year.
The farmers of New Greenland Farm were also invited to join the celebration that afternoon at Mango Tree COD and it was a fun and joyous occasion for everyone.
Trevor Mackenzie, Mango Tree Global Managing Director, explained how they were challenged to use local ingredients for Mango Tree’s Thai dishes. Being close Southeast Asian neighbors, Thailand and the Philippines share quite a few similarities so it was also easy to adopt local items for their Thai cuisine.
Mango Tree’s Thai executive chefs also flew in from Thailand to visit New Greenland Farm and to curate a special menu for us that afternoon using freshly harvested crops and local produce.
This special menu highlights the versatility and adaptability of local healthy vegetables such as chayote (sayote), Malabar spinach (alugbati), jute leaves (saluyot), and more on Thai cuisine. Some of these dishes will eventually be included in the regular menu at Mango Tree.
We started with the Sweet Potato Crab Cakes as our appetizer. These tasty bite-sized crab cakes are topped with sweet potato crisps and is a great way to begin our farm-to-table adventure.
Thais love eating salads so there were several salad dishes on the menu as well. The Som Yum Chayote Salad is a refreshing salad that uses our own sayote as its main ingredient. The Chayote is actually interchangeable with the green papaya which the Thais mostly use for their salads.
There’s also the very healthy Malabar Spinach Salad which is combined with onions, garlic, nuts and doused with a special dressing.
I love eating tom yup soup so I was excited to try this special version. The Sour and Spicy Southern Shrimp and Farm Fresh Vegetables Soup was one of the highlights on the menu. The broth had that spicy kick you will always find in authentic Thai cuisine so everyone was sweating after this course.
We then had our main courses starting with the Stir-Fried Beef with Curry Paste and Chili Leaves followed by the Wok-Fried Pork Belly and Taro with Garlic Chili. These two dishes really went well with steamed rice.
The Stir-Fried Jute Leaves with Pork and Shrimp was also a good complement to our meaty dishes. The jute leaves or saluyot gives this dish a healthy component.
For our desserts, the Sweet Potato Fritters with Pandan Custard was a great way to compete our meals. The crunchy coating of the sweet potatoes went well with the sweet pandan dip. We also had some Thai Mochi which are glutinous rice balls combined with grated coconut sugar and coconut palm sugar.
To make the celebration more memorable, Mango Tree also raffled off some generous prizes courtesy of City of Dreams Manila. These included buffet vouchers, spa vouchers, and even staycation vouchers for the lucky winners.
Congratulations Mango Tree for your 12th anniversary in the Philippines and for your new branches in City of Dreams Manila as well as your newest branch in SM City North Edsa. Thank you for a lovely afternoon filled with delicious and sustainable Farm-to-Table Thai dishes.

Mango Tree Manila Features New Authentic Thai Dishes
Mango Tree Manila, one of the best Thai restaurants in the city, is introducing several new exciting dishes to add to their extensive lineup of authentic Thai cuisine. Mango Tree is a world-class international franchise dedicated to Thai traditions and hospitality, welcoming its guests with only the freshest of ingredients and incredible flavors.
Mango Tree Manila’s flagship branch is located at Bonifacio High Street Central in Bonifacio Global City. This outlet carries a more sophisticated fine dining ambiance compared to their other locations in Trinoma and Greenbelt. The Hungry Kat was invited to sample some of their new dishes last May 29, 2018 and it was a good opportunity to visit this authentic Thai dining destination.
It was just my first time to dine in this particular branch and I was quite impressed with its bright and spacious interiors. The high ceiling and exquisite designs give the place a charming and casual ambiance. They also have a second level which would be suitable for private events and other small gatherings.
Mango Tree’s menu brings together the best of all four regions of Thailand, which is why this well-loved restaurant has garnered numerous awards throughout the years.
The best seats would probably be the ones by the window which are more suited for couples or those on a date. Those plush leather seats do look comfortable.
Since Bonifacio Global City is home to office employees and executives, the bar area would be an enticing spot for them for those late afternoon drinks best coupled with fiery Thai dishes.
Some of the colorful beverages offered at Mango Tree Manila include the Tropical Cooler (P200) and the Mango Calamansi Cooler (P200) which are both fantastic for these hot days.
The bar also feature a great cocktail menu which includes the Chili Mojito (P250), a spicier version of the popular mojito drink with a huge sliced chili on top.  The Belvedere Mango Tango Spritz (P350) is also very interesting with its Belvedere vodka and generous bits of mangoes. On the other hand, the Mango Tree Bellini (P250) comes with vodka, peach Schnapps, mango, orange juice, and Sangria.
Mango Tree Manila is headed by Thai Executive Chef Prapun Sampungpong  who continues the legacy of using only the best and freshest ingredients with an array of organic Thai herb and spices to produce an authentic taste described as “Thai Cuisine at its Best.” He presented several new dishes for the year and we were delighted to sample each one.
For appetizers, the Thai Crispy Rice Crackers (P280) is a good way to start any meal. These deep-fried crispy rice crackers are served with a creamy and savoury dip made with coconut milk, shrimp, and chicken. It’s perfect to jumpstart our taste buds.
Those who are too hungry to wait for the main courses better order the Tom Yum Chicken Wings (P290) with its deep fried wings doused in a classic tom yum powder. It gives the chicken a truly Thai taste with its bold flavors.
You can’t go to a Thai restaurant without having a Phad Thai, but Mango Tree upgrades this classic noodle dish with their Phad Thai with Soft Shell Crab (P550). This comes with stir-fried glass noodles and huge deep-fried soft shell crabs to make it more special. I love these crunchy crabs and this is one of the best and most authentic Phad Thai dishes I have had.
Mango Tree is also introducing two new meaty and delicious skewers. The Thai Chicken Skewers (P420) has grilled marinated chunks of chicken skewed with cherry tomato, bell peppers, white onions and pineapple served with sweet vinegar sauce.
But I preferred to have the Thai Pork Skewers (P420) with its juicy chunks of grilled marinated pork. The sweet vinegar sauce complements these two dishes very well.
The Prawns in Pandan (P580) comes with these cute marinated prawns wrapped inside aromatic pandan leaves. It’s a different version of the traditional Chicken Pandan but it comes with the same flavorful aroma and taste.
For bolder flavors, go for the Deep Fried Prawns in Tamarind Sauce (P580). These deep fried prawns are topped with garlic, chilies, spring onions, and a sweet and tasty tamarind sauce.
One exciting dish we tried was the Homok Seafood Curry in Coconut (P950) which had mixed seafood items in a creamy red curry sauce served on a coconut shell.
But my favorite dish that afternoon was the Fried Sea Bass in Tamarind Sauce (P1150). This whole fried sea bass is topped with pineapple and cherry tomatoes mixed with a sweet tamarind sauce. The sauce is similar to sweet and sour but with more spices and flavors.
The Massaman Lamb Shank (P850) is becoming one of the more popular dishes at Mango Tree and now I know why. This tender lamb shank is cooked with onions, potatoes and peanuts then served in a rich and special massaman curry. This mild Thai curry is just perfect for my palate since I don’t like it too spicy.
For desserts, guests can have the Sweet Cassava (P220) topped with coconut milk or the Tub Tim Grob (P250) with red ruby chestnuts, langka and coconut ice cream. All of these new items are now available at Mango Tree Manila so head over for a visit and experience a true taste of Thailand.
