2024 Manga Taisho Award Winners Announced
In somewhat of an uncontested victory, Kimi to Uchuu wo Aruku Tame Ni walked away with nearly a 100 point victory. Following it in second place is Hiromu Arakawa's Daemons of The Shadow Realm. And only 1 point behind it in third place is Tales of Craftsmen From Kanda Gokurachou.
Though three series, it's really 1st and 3rd that are incredibly interesting. Kimi to Uchuu only has one volume out currently, with its second coming in May. Published under Kodansha, given their recent... "aggression" with manga licenses, there's a very strong chance to see an announcement for it sometime this summer.
On the other hand, Tales of Craftsmen is the first ever manga to be nominated, let alone place in the top 3, of the Manga Taisho awards from Leeds Publishing. It's a really incredible feat, and just another feather in its cap considering that it had recently won Freestyle's Read This Manga! award. Add on top that it's been nominated for the Osamu Tezuka Cultural prize, and it's a work that everyone should have their eyes on.
Though, many seem unaware of it, so I have a post in the works for this afternoon to detail its history and journey that led it to such commercial success and critical acclaim on only a single volume. The short of it though is that like with Kimi to Uchuu, manga readers should be making a lot of noise about getting it licensed over here.

i saw some noise being made about this manga so i gave it a shot and it was basically an instant reccomendation. there's a lot i could say about Kimi to Uchuu wo Aruku Tame Ni ("I Want To Walk In Space With You") but all i really want to say to convey my feelings is that i read it this morning and experienced what i can only describe as a Category 5 “He Just Like Me FR” Event (crying within 1 hour of waking) (im ok now)
#warning for harsh language (it's there for a reason)#kimi to uchuu wo aruku tame ni#i want to walk with you in space#i want to walk in space with you#spacewalking with you

Love In the Air is getting a Japanese adaptation.
Things have come a full circle for MeMindY in a way. It was while traveling through Japan in November 2018 that MAME decided to start a production house to film series based on her novel in her own way.
Looks like it is a fan project of sorts based on what creators has to say on the project website, so it makes sense that it is MeMindY’s project that gets Japanese adaptation. (If not, it would have been GMMTV, BOC or some other government-supported production company that engaged in Thai government’s Commerce Ministry department facilitated “BL as soft power” negotiations with their Japanese counterparts.
more on this here)
This adaptation is not surprising considering the crowd that showed up at MAME’s Japanese fan-meet consisted of older folk too. It reminds me of Chen Hao producing Stay with Me. While I would be happy to have more bottom-up, demand-driven productions rather than top-down, supply-driven ones, it makes me worried too. I had previously expressed my wish for popular BL manga and novels to get live action adaptation. Now, we have a handful of live action based on works that have won Chil-chil awards but those adaptations have been disappointing to say the least.
source
I am a little worried about production quality. Hopefully, they’ll manage to balance cost and quality since this project’s return on investment would be a signal to future initiatives. I am excited for Shoma who gave an excellent performance in the unfortunately gelded adaptation of the super-popular manga 25 Ji, Akasaka de. I am eager to know who will play Saifah (hopefully they'll retain that character) and Chai.
My Insane Wishlist: Non-Thai adaptation of MAME’s BL
Breath – Japanese live action adaptation TulHin was one of the side couples in Love by Chance 2 but I want an adaptation that stays true to the spirit of their story. In addition, it will be really nice to see Hin in violet rope shibari in the hotel getaway scene. All the shibari scenes we got so far in live action BL has been fleeting and of very little consequence. Japan should attempt adapting this into period piece set in Taisho or early Showa era. The novel is well suited for an adaptation set in that period with rapidly changing position of the aristocracy in the society, conflict between old and new orders, nouveau riche industrialists, feudal households with retainers performing multiple functions, specific forms of xenophobia, grand balls, arranged marriages, intergenerational power struggle, familism and ample space for intrigue. Also, Japan has a good track record of being sincere in their depiction of complexities of androphilic male x androphilic female interactions – they can make Tul's struggle heart-wrenching to watch.
OatShin from Test Love and OatShin Diary – Tamil-Marathi bilingual movie adaptation with Harshvardhan Rane as Shin, Arjun Das as Oat and Suriya as Akira (Shin's cousin brother). In the novel Love Storm from which Love in the Air is adapted, it is Oat and not Prapai who is the best street racer in their circuit. Saifah, Oat and Saifah's girlfriend are in fact friends and classmates from college - depicted in Test Love. Oat's boyfriend Shinji was his junior in college. Shin is friends with characters from Love By Chance. Their relationship starts at the end of Test Love and in OatShin Diaries we get to see them navigate long distance relationship, familial acceptance and work-life balance as salarymen. OatShin has a very cute dynamic - they are a riba CP (reversible couple) with a lot of push and pull. Shin is super sly and sensitive and I can see Harshvardhan teasing the hell out of whoever he is paired with. Arjun Das probably can't do racer very well - so just get him that ATV from Por for added illegality. He would be perfect as Oat and very adorable too.
Try Me: Chai Win – Japanese manga adaptation with minimal censor bars – Chai’s pearlings needs to exist in 2D version.
Try Me: Chai Win – Turkish live action adaptation – I think Pawit-bey has a nice ring to it and I would pay to listen to it for 40 episodes of 2-hour length each. Maybe some over the top honorifics would be more suitable coming from Chai’s mouth like efendi. Mert Yazicioglu or Ali Yagci as Win and Can Yaman as Chai.
Chai appeared in Love in the Air as a crucial minor character who comes to Phayu's rescue. He has a love story of his own with Pakin's civilian* cousin brother, Pawit aka Win, that is complicated by duty and obligations and extortive meddling by Pakin's dad (the kingpin).

For the final day of Femslash February, the female-centric manga I'm going to talk about isn't exactly super f/f shippy and has some themes that won't be for everyone but it's a really unique work, dabbling into genres for which it can be hard to find stories with a big female cast: I'm talking about a SF military story with horror elements.
And also it has women drawn like this, which is a kind of character design for female characters I would quite like to see in a lot more manga and anime:
The name is Wombs and it's a 5 volumes manga drawn and written by Shirai Yumiko. She has worked on multiple sci-fi manga and this one in particular has won the Nihon SF Taisho Award, a prize for which all types of SF Japanese media can be selected.
It is set on an alien planet where two different groups of colons are at war with each other. The "Firsts" arrived before and have already settled there but the "Seconds" are more technologically advanced and to have a chance against them, the military of the Firsts starts implanting the wombs of female soldiers with a special "organ" from creatures living on this planet. This organ (on which many military secrets are set) gives translocation powers to the special units of women carrying them. Those are the main characters we will follow in this story.
It deals with pretty heavy themes around military and war propaganda as well as the commodification of female bodies. And there's some big horror vibes too, especially body horror as you could expect from the whole "implanting an alien organ", which makes those characters appear pregnant.
Like I said in the beginning, it's not exactly shippy and some of the characters are noted to be in/having had a relationship with a man (though it's mostly in the background).
But since it's one of few war stories focusing on a unit of women, if you're into the tropes that come with that like loyalty kink, hierarchies and mentorship, intimacy from living in shared quarters, dealing with the horrors of war, etc... I think you should definitely give it a go! Same if you simply find it intriguing; maybe you'll come out of it with some shippy feelings, maybe not, but it's a harsh yet fascinating story so it's worth giving it a try.

Best anime show for beginners (In my opinion)
Hi, my name is Quilson Endre V. Tamparia and I am here to tell you the best anime show for beginners in my opinion which is:
Demon slayer
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (鬼滅の刃, Kimetsu no Yaiba, "Blade of Demon Destruction") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. It was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020, with its chapters collected in 23 tankōbon volumes. It has been published in English by Viz Media and simultaneously published by Shueisha on their Manga Plus platform.
It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a Demon Slayer after his family is slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon.
A 26-episode anime television series adaptation produced by Ufotable aired from April to September 2019. A sequel film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, was released in October 2020 and became the highest-grossing anime film and Japanese film of all time. the manga had over 150 million copies in circulation, including digital versions, making it the ninth best-selling manga series of all time. Also, it was the best-selling manga in 2019 and 2020. Both the manga and its anime adaptation have received critical acclaim. The anime series has received numerous awards and is considered one of the best anime of the 2010s. In 2020, the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise generated an estimated annual sales revenue of ¥1 trillion ($8.75 billion), becoming one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.
The advent of a shockingly quality anime surprised experienced fans all over the world in 2019. It is set in the Taisho period (1912-1926) in Japan where demons exist with human beings. This anime includes every important part of an excellent anime from the main character’s purity and growth to friends with the spirit of brotherhood and respect for all characters. The battle scenes between demon slayers with swords and unique demon characters are intense, which is beautifully drawn. Each character’s past and background including even demons is respectfully depicted in this anime.
This is my favorite anime and is great for beginners. So to sum it all this anime show is great for beginners and there are a lot more out there like Pokemon even non-anime fans know but this is what I recommend that you watch before you move to the anime world and become a fan/freak for anime possibly even cosplay the characters if you are a DIE HARD FAN of anime.

Other films to be screened in the section include Harmagedon (1983), Robot Carnival (1987), AKIRA digitally remastered edition(1988), Rouzin-Z (1991), MEMORIES (1995), GUNDAM Mission to the Rise (1998), Metropolis (2001), Steam Boy (2004), and SHOET PEACE (2013). Otomo launched the Domu manga in 1980. Dark Horse manga was published it in English. The manga won the Excellence Award at the Japan Cartoonists Association Awards in 1981 and won the Best Comic award at the 1984 Seiun Awards. It became the first manga to win the Nihon SF Taisho Award in 1983. Touchstone Pictures with Guillermo del Toro previously possessed the rights for a live-action film adaptation of the manga. Beastars is a popular anime series in the drama and fantasy genre that first aired in 2019. Originally based on a manga series, the anime is inspired by Paru Itagaki’s manga series that began airing in 2016. The Beatstars’ popular manga has won the Eleventh Manga Taisho Award, the Twenty-Second Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award, the Twenty-First Japan Media Arts Festival Award, and the Forty-Second Kodansha Manga Award. In short, it is an adaptation of a manga that is as famous as its anime. We had also analyzed the previous season of the anime, which attracted great attention with its second season, the result did not surprise us and the series was renewed for a second season. Now, for the potential third season, we will let you know what we know so far. Beastars, which makes a name all over the world with the platform’s advantage, was created by studio Orange. We also know the studio from Houseki No Kuni, one of the popular anime series of 2017. The second season of the anime originally aired on Fuji TV (+ Ultra), TNC, KTV, THK, UHB, BS Fuji local broadcasters from January to March 2021, and it is broadcast on Netflix in July 2021. So will the anime has a third season? Has Netflix already renewed the series?1 What is the anime Beastars about?2 Will there be a third season of the Beastars?2.1 Manga2.2 When is the release date of the third season?3 What can happen in the third season?3.1 Manga SpoilersWhat is the anime Beastars about?Carnivores and herbivores try to live in peace at the Cherryton Academy. While many animals live a life unique to humans in this world, all students, including carnivores, are prohibited from consuming animal foods. However, despite all the prohibitions, there are also species that find and consume meat on the black market and hunt at night. Legoshi and many other animals’ youthful life is told in this world that belongs entirely to animals. The bullying, joys, and sorrows they suffered, in short, all the emotions and events of people were handled entertainingly and questionably. Beatstars opens the door to a breathtaking story of how Legoshi battles his inner demon in a society that is cruel to her own kind. The Picture: @Netflix Anime / YouTubeWill there be a third season of the Beastars?Expectations were met, and the Beastars anime has been renewed for a third season, according to the announcement on July 20, 2021. Orange studio made the animations of the Netflix licensed anime last season. Orange Studio announced on Twitter that it will take part in the next season as well. The good news is that the same studio would be doing the animations to maintain the quality of the series. The bad news for some of the fans is that the anime studio Orange announced on December 7, 2021, that the new season of Beastars would be the final season.Studio Orange made a reminder about the renewal in June, but as of July 13, 2022, there is still no clear release date. We will be able to see more news and a trailer in the coming days.Oh quick reminder, we’ve already announced BEASTARS. We’re still making it. Update will be released when all the party involved are ready.— Orange ➡️TRIGUN STAMPEDE (@CG_Orange_eng) June 12, 2022MangaThe original series of Beastars was written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki. The series, which started to be published in 2016, ended on 8 October 2020. The manga series published by Japanese publisher Akita Shoten also meets with readers in English by Viz Media. The fact that the manga series is not continuing anymore has already limited the number of seasons we can see. However, 22 volumes have been released for the manga series so far, and enough source material is available for the new seasons. A total of 6 volumes were adapted in the first season, and 6 more volumes were adapted in the following second season. The remaining stock material is 10 volumes of the manga. It is still unclear how much source material will be used in season 3. If the remaining story will not be fully adapted, we may see a fourth season, but it will not be possible to see more except spin-offs.54%Manga adaptation ratePopularityThe Beastars anime is ranked 208th on Myanimelist’s popularity ranking. Given the current popularity, creative studio Orange will not say no to new seasons because this brand is one of the most valuable anime in the studio’s hands. Beatstars is an anime series that attracts attention not only in Japan but all over the world. Especially thanks to an exclusive distributor like Netflix, the anime reaches the whole world. Google searches give us an idea of the current popularity of the series. When we look at it, we see that BEASTARS is searched more than animes like The Dragon Prince and Mob Psycho 100 currently, also broadcast on Netflix. We know that Netflix anime isn’t always popular in Japan, but the official Japanese Twitter account has over 80k followers, which isn’t bad for an anime page. When is the release date of the third season? As of July 13, 2022, although the anime has been renewed for a new season, the official release date has still not been shared yet. Forecasts point to early in 2023. We’ll update this section when the official release date is announced.Japan Release DateNetflix Release DateSeason 1October 10, 2019March 13, 2020Season 2January 7, 2021July 15, 2021Season 3Early in 2022 (Expectation)Early in 2023 (Expectation)What can happen in the third season? We think that after the 100th chapter (vol. 12) of the manga could be adapted for what will be told in the third season. The two prominent characters of the manga, the gazelle-leopard hybrid Melon, and Merino, appeared briefly in the 11th episode of the second season. They may be more involved in the story next season. With Louis’ departure and Ibuki’s death, a power gap formed in Shishigumi. Melon can step in to fill this power gap. There’s a good chance that Legoshi will end up living in the Secret Apartment, where both carnivores and herbivores live. Maybe that’s where he meets Seven and Sagwan, a spotted seal.Manga SpoilersSince Beastars is a manga adaptation, it is possible to learn from the manga what will take place next season. This part of our article contains sharp spoilers about the upcoming season.Previously, Legoshi had dueled Tem’s killer, bear Riz. He fought and won against Riz’s power, thanks to Louis’ sacrificing his leg, and Legoshi was given an advantage by allowing him to eat meat for the first time. The duel ended with Riz’s arrest after admitting his mistake. But the police also arrested Legoshi! Legoshi was forever branded as a predatory criminal for illegally consuming the meat of another living animal. Besides the scar on his face, Legoshi faced multiple problems as he could no longer attend universities, and herbivore-owned companies would not want to hire him. Worse still, it was now legally impossible for him to marry a herbivore like Haru! In short, Legoshi now only has to live to go to a carnivorous college, get a job, marry a grey wolf, and start a family. But that’s not the life he wants. Desperate, Legoshi decides to tell Haru that he’s dropping out of Cherryton Academy. However, the police asked him to keep quiet about the incident. He can’t tell Haru clearly, causing Haru to be confused about their relationship. When the police reveal details of the incident to the public, they alter key details, making it seem as if Louis is the herbivorous hero fighting against the carnivorous criminal Riz. Meanwhile, Louis is visited at the hospital by his father, Ogma, who has ordered him a quality prosthetic leg. Yahya ‘The Black Devil’, their community leader, becomes interested in Legoshi’s cause. Legoshi lives in the Hidden Condo, an old building that allows tenants to have criminal records. One of Legoshi’s new neighbors is a Merino sheep named Seven, who has a hard time working for a carnivorous sportswear company. The audience will also be introduced to Legoshi’s mother, Leano, and grandfather, Gosha, in the following episodes. The reason Gosha’s appearance is shocking is that he is literally a scaly komodo dragon! Yes, that means Legoshi’s mother is a grey wolf-komodo dragon hybrid, while his father, Miyagi, is a true grey wolf. Legoshi inherited his grandfather’s eyes. However, Leano had inherited reptilian traits. It was his personal concern with his appearance that shaped Legoshi’s behavior today. Things change as the monster John tries to capture Melon, a hybrid criminal who is half gazelle and half leopard. In fact, he is someone who makes money by killing elephants and selling their tusks by pretending to be a therapist. The old horse can’t keep up with the more agile Melon, so John hires Legoshi to catch Melon. The monsters think they can remove Legoshi’s criminal past from the official record and pave the way for Legoshi’s reunion to a happy future.

Tales of Craftsmen From Kanda Gokurachou earns Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize
This is... really big news- for me, at least. Tales of Craftsmen from Kanda Gokurachou has netted something massive with their awarding of the New Life/Creative award with this year's Cultural Prize.
Akihito Sakaue has already had an incredible run of popularity and critical acclaim leading up to this, but this award is really the icing on the cake.
It places the manga in elite company, alongside the likes of Frieren, BEASTARS, and Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju- all of which we have in English print. Though, the point that pulls these series together is that they are a supposed "triple threat", having all won the same category of Tezuka Cultural Prize, and ranked within the top 3 for both Kono Manga Ga Sugoi, and the Manga Taisho awards.
That's not a guarantee by any means for Kanda Gokurachou, but damn if it isn't ever inspiring and hopeful. Really great news for both the series and Sakaue though, so I'm sure they'll be taking the time to celebrate the achievement.

Chihayafuru
50 volumes (when completed, 37 volumes in English and digital-only as of 4/21/2023.)
Licensed by Kodansha, also on Azuki and INKR Comics.
Chihaya is a girl in the sixth grade, still not old enough to even know the meaning of the word zeal. But one day, she meets Arata, a transfer student from rural Fukui prefecture. Though docile and quiet, he has an unexpected skill: his ability to play competitive karuta, a traditional Japanese card game. Chihaya is struck by his obsession with the game, along with his ability to pick out the right card and swipe it away before any of his opponents. However, Arata is transfixed by her as well, all because of her unbelievable natural talent for the game. Don't miss the first volume in this story of adolescent lives and emotions playing out in the most dramatic of ways.
Note: Won the 2nd Manga Taisho Award and the 35th annual Kodansha Manga Award for Best Shoujo. Was nominated for the 20th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2016.
