Year-end meme time! I have been answering these questions once a year without fail since 2006. Maybe one of these years Iâll stop, but not for 2017.
Was 2017 a good year for you?
Yes! In February I decided I wanted to quit my job and go to Brazil for 3 months. I quit my job and moved away from NC in July, left for Brazil in August. I had a short-lived but intense romantic relationship from April-July. We drove across the country together. Brazil was really challenging but overall amazing. With the exception of a couple periods when life was too hectic, I kept up with my yoga habit. I think I made it a full 8 months without skipping a whole week actually? Maybe it was 6 months, I forget now, I just know that it was an important milestone for me at the time because I have never managed to keep up an exercise routine that long before. I spent more time at the ocean and by the pool than I have in most other years of my life. I lost some weight. I stayed relatively on top of my shit (bullet journaling really helped, when I was doing that), and stayed sane. I read a fuck ton of Harry/Draco and BTS fic. I took a lot of chances with people I had only just barely met. It has honestly been a pretty stellar year for me personally, the mounting sense of despair over the external world aside.
What was your favorite moment of the year?
Being in the ocean with kids climbing on top of me, demanding to be tossed into the waves.
What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Nothing actually stands out. I had some pretty low moments of crying over certain things in my life, but nothing I can talk about on the online, and besides since none of them were reacting to specific things they all sort of blend together in my memory anyway. I did cry whole buckets while leaving my goodbye party in NC and continued to cry when I got to my ex-BFâs house and then cried myself to sleep, but it feels sort of not right to call that a least favorite moment, just cathartic.
Where were you when 2017 began?
At the same new yearsâ party I was at when 2014, 2015, and 2016 began. That night was kind of a mixed bag for me, although I did get a new yearsâ kiss, which I will probably not be getting this year. Â
Where will you be when 2017 ends?
One of my oldest friends in SLC is hosting a âpolar plungeâ at her house, so Iâm going to do that. I probably will not be taking any kind of plunge myself but I can provide emotional support to those who shall.
Who will you be with when 2017 ends?
My friend Jennica and her husband. I have no idea who else, I donât think I know most of their friends these days. Â
Did you keep your new years resolution of 2017?
Looking at the half-assed resoluations I madeâŠ. Lmao, no I didnât, but then my goals for the year changed rather drastically in February when I decided to upend everything, and I feel pretty good about how I followed through with all that stuff.
Do you have a new years resolution for 2018?
Have another list of resolution-ish intentions I have, I still would not call this list whole-assed but hey:
-complete a 30 day yoga challenge (I am on day 7 already, actually, so if I keep up with it I'll knock this one out before the end of January)
-don't let more than 4 days go by without going to yoga (other than when I'm traveling)
-don't let more than 2 days go by without writing (other than when I'm traveling)
-write original fiction at least three times a week, even if it's just like, scribbling down 100 words of a writing exercise (again, other than when traveling)
-read at least 25 books
-read at least 20 short stories
What was your relationship status? Did you break up with anyone?
I was in a relationship from roughly April-July, we broke it off before I left for Brazil. I dated other people in there, although no one for as long as I dated him.
How many one-night stands?
I think four? Idk depends on what you consider a one-night stand. And I made out with lots of different people, which was fun.
Did you make any new friends in 2017?
I made a lot of new friends in Brazil! Iâve made some new friends and reconnected with old friends through kpop. I seem to have made some new friends in SLC, which has been really nice.
What was your favorite month of 2017?
Probably September. April really ranks up there, too.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 30!!! I think on the day of I went to work, got taken out to lunch by my boyfriend, swam in my apartmentâs pool, and started watching Boku No Hero Academia, also with the boyfriend. I had a small party for myself over the weekend, if memory serves. It was really nice, low key and happy, I really enjoyed turning 30 and have been very much enjoying my thirties since. I remember thinking that I was going to feel angsty and panicked about turning this number but that never really hit. It was mostly just good.
How many different places did you travel to in 2017?
Ashland, OR; Wilmington, NC; Charlotte, NC; from Carrboro, NC to SLC, with stops along the way in Birmingham, New Orleans, a town in Texas that I have forgotten the name of; in Brazil: Fortaleza, Taiba, Manaus, Tefe, Mamiraua Reserve, Monte Alegre do Sul, and Sao Paulo.
Did anybody close to you die in 2017?
No.
Did anybody close to you give birth?
Yes, K and E.
Did you miss anybody in the past year?
I missed my NC friends a lot after I moved away. I missed Brazil and my people there.
Do you hate anyone now that you didnât hate this time last year?
Other than public figures, no, not really.
What were your favorite movies that you saw in 2017?
Loving Vincent, Thor: Ragnarok and The Last Jedi.
What was your favorite song from 2017?
I have not done a great job of keeping track of which songs Iâve listened to the most this year, but: Silver Spoon/Baepsae by BTS; Nights by Frank Ocean; Soldados by Legiao Urbana; Donât Take The Money by Bleachers; The Louvre by Lorde; Ultralight Beam by Kanye West; Young by The Chainsmokers.
Did you have a favorite concert in 2017?
Bleachers and MUNA in Charlotte! Also Chance The Rapper.
Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2017?
I feel like yes but I think I did less getting super drunk than in previous years.
Did you do a lot of drugs in 2017?
Not âa lotâ but I was not expecting this to be the year that recreational drugs came back into my life. So âa lotâ by my usual standards, I guess.
What kept you sane?
Yoga, walking, and journaling. This is a very boring and literal answer, sorry, but itâs true. Iâm sorry to be one of Those People but exercise and mindfulness are the reasons Iâm able to be off anti-depressants.
What did you do in 2017 that youâd never done before?
Traveled to a foreign country by myself. Tried cocaine. Wrote fanfiction commissions. Taught english classes. Learned how to samba. Used a bullet journal. Did goat yoga. Interviewed a creator I admired. Went to a club by myself.
What dates from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
-August 21, the day of the eclipse and the day I flew to Brazil.
-July 28-29, my last days in NC, the night one of my cats spent in the bathtub of a friendâs apartment, and the days I spent frantically moving out of my apartment.
-The Womenâs March. Both because it was one of the very few times this year I felt politically empowered, and because that night I had a really fantastic tinder date with a woman who had also been at the march. This was only a couple days after Iâd been dumped by the girl I was seeing, so I felt very spitefully pleased about the timing of it all.
-April 22. At my old job, we opened up a new public preserve, an event everyone in the org had been working to make happen for years. The event itself went extremely well and was super gratifying, and then that night was one of the early and really great dates with the guy I was dating.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Quitting my job in a way I feel good about. Making Brazil happen. Moving out of my apartment. Sticking with yoga. Finishing my otayuri Spy AU. Writing all the fic that people commissioned me for, even though it took me forever and a day. Paying off my credit card post-brazil.
What was your biggest failure?
I am disappointed in myself for not trying harder to write and publish more nonfiction, even though I felt all this momentum in that direction after the McElroy piece I wrote in May. I am also disappointed in myself for losing steam on the novel I started in 2016. There are some conversations I wish I had had with important people in my life, that I always chickend out on having. There are some feelings I wish I had been able to leave behind, but couldnât.
What was the best thing you bought?
Other than plane tickets, probably my chromebook. It does not feel real at all that I bought that in 2017, though. This year has been five years in one.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? happier
b) thinner or fatter? thinner
c) richer or poorer? poorer
How did you spend Christmas?
With my family in SLC, like I almost always do. We opened presents, my dad and I went to yoga, I read a lot of kpop fic, in the evening we went to a dinner party at my parentsâ friends house and I ate a lot of really good food.
What was the best book you read?
If I manage to finish The Female Man today, I will have read 23 books this year, not counting the 6 Animorphs books I reread and the gazillions of BNHA manga chapters. Thatâs actually more than I thought I had read, and maybe I should make my books goal for 2018 a larger number, hm.
But anyway I think the best book of those was probably The Basic Eight by Daniel Handler or Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. I also loved Swing Time by Zadie Smith but I read that at the beginning of the year so it sort of feels like a lifetime ago.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2017?
Well for half of it Iâve been either living out of a backpack or in my pajamas almost 24/7. Also I got rid of most of my wardrobe. So I guess minimal?
What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017?
A new Carly Rae Jepsen album!!! And greater financial security, a home in a city Iâm happy about living in.
What do you wish youâd done more of?
Writing original fiction and freelance writing. Exercising more discipline in my writing life, in general. Mindfulness exercises when I was upset. Taking photos of people I wanted to remember.
What do you wish youâd done less of?
Sweet jesus do I wish I had spent less time mindlessly refreshing apps on my phone, particularly twitter. Also pointless angsting about personal relationships. Gone on less Tinder dates that I knew werenât going anywhere.
What are your plans for 2018?
Going to Japan in May with @corvidyouths and @globsavethequeen!!! And getting a job in New York or LA or DC or, who knows, somewhere else that I havenât though of yet.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Well, I donât know how much of my year this actually sums up, but these lines have been rattling around my head more than anything else. From Nights by Frank Ocean:
I ain't trying to keep you Can't keep up a conversation Can't nobody reach you Why your eyes well up Did you call me from a seance You are from a past life

Meet Chrissie, the new Education Abroad Assistant
Holler all!Â

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The sky is blue. The rocks are contrasted with a hue of red. Chrissie ie in the middle. She is smiling, and leaning a bit. ]
I am your new Education Abroad Assistant! Letâs get to know me first. I resides in the coastal mountains of Vancouver of Canada. I am a graduate student, pursuing Masterâs Art in International Development. My career goal is to advocate and promote equity of various right issues for people with disabilities at non-profit organizational level. In my free time, I enjoy the appreciation of doing art. Sometimes, I like to do yoga or go hiking if I actually can stop procrastinating.Â
Growing up, I always had incredible curiosity about the world. In my own free time, I would explore every inch of the map, or learn new words from another foreign language. I like to absorb and gain global perspectives whenever I travel to new places. It is a big world out there, go figures.
At the age of 19, as having recently entering the young adult world, I was frightened by the idea of limiting myself in boring life commitments, I just wanted to travel and find my passion somewhere. I decided to take a semester break from Gallaudet. In three months, I have successfully traveled to 12 European countries solo. I still grasp at this fact today. This journey was an unforgettable experience, along with personal growth, lessons and growing appreciation of the world. I could tell you so much stories about my experience traveling solo.Â

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Sky is cloudy. The view is at the top of Budapest with East European old buildings far away. Chrissie is sitting on pieces of bricks. She is smiling directly front of the camera. She is wearing glasses, with short blonde hair. She is wearing a grey shirt and blue jeans with latched leather purse on the right..]
November 2014. My first traveling experience solo in Budapest, Hungary. This photo was also taken a few hours before my passport got stolen. The aftermath was no fun. Do secure your passport at all time, please.Â

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The sky is merely cloudy. The photo appears to be slightly fisheye, shot with a GoPro. View seem to be tiny, from 10,000 feet up in the air. Chrissie appears to smile largely due to the extreme wind lifting up her smile. She is wearing a transparent goggle. A male instructor is latched behind her. ]
January 2016. This was taken in Manaus, Brazil where I had the amazing enchanting experience of skydiving from 10,000 feet above in the air. How scary.Â

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Instagram-filtered of a classroom. There is a black chalk board, with Thai written words above the board in the background. Chrissie, in her black teacher attire, is smiling with tongue slightly sneaking out. Two young female students in white and pink uniform are also smiling with her. They are all signing ILY.]
July 2017. This was taken during my undergraduate internship in Chiang May, Thailand.Â
Education is the centerpiece of any study abroad trip. It is a enchanting experience and it is also all about personal development. You grow fonder of the cultures and knowledge you have. You gain new perspectives. You learn something new about yourself, perhaps, discovering a career interest,Â
From my experience with study abroad and traveling, meeting new people is one of the best part. You will find that you have a better understanding and appreciation for the nationâs people and history. You will have the opportunity to witness a completely new way of life. So, whenever I travel to a new country, I will visit a deaf school, or deaf clubs, or reach out to social medias where I can meet up with others who are deaf like us. I learned International Sign to communicate with deaf people in other countries. IS is universal! Can you believe that? In this new generation of interconnected worlds of deaf communities, we can easily communicate with each other through IS. Definitely a #deafgain thing.Â
Why study abroad? For most students, this time may be the only opportunity they ever get to travel abroad for a long period of time. Eventually you will find a job and career, and the opportunity to study abroad may turn out to be a once in a life time opportunity.Â
You probably have encountered many rants by older adults where they regretted that they did not travel back in their earlier years. So, what is stopping you? It is a lifetime experience. Take this opportunity to travel the world with no commitments but to study and learn about new cultures. Studying abroad is an experience unlike any other.Â
Holler at me if you are curious and interested in knowing more information about study abroad, international internships or travel tips!Â

â They believe this is an illness for rich individuals, that is something from abroad that wonât impact them,â Silva included.

Loud sex, thunderous dancing: how coronavirus strains neighborly ties (The Guardian) Locked-down Americans are learning more than they ever wanted to know about their neighbors. One day a month into quarantine, Christie was leading a Zoom board meeting of the local political club where sheâs president when the floor in the unit directly above started creaking. It was just as she feared: her upstairs neighbor had decided to engage in loud intimate activities. Americans are spending more time than ever at home and that means redefining relationships with neighborsâfor better and, sometimes, for worse. Disturbances like a baby crying or a particularly thunderous living-room dance-off can quickly drive the best-intentioned neighbors to despair. A Maryland police department recently entreated local residents to put on pants before retrieving mail. Coronavirus has also brought neighborly connections to new heights. Italyâs balcony singalongs have been repeated around the globe and across the country, from Boston to Indianapolis to Wichita, Kansas and San Jose, California. Residents of Marin county, California, have organized a nightly howling. Harriet Riley, a writing instructor in New Orleans, was at first distraught about the prospect of having to cancel her annual crawfish boil, a beloved Louisiana tradition. That is, until she realized there was still a way to connect. âWe set up a long table at the end of our driveway with the four ice chests of crawfish,â she said, and each family had just one designated person approach. âEveryone took their crawfish to their front porches and we laughed and yelled around to each other. We also saw some neighbors that we donât see as often. The crawfish really brought everyone out.â
Shift on shopping habits (CNN) With much of the wealthy world stuck at home in front of their screens, curious shopping habits are emerging. According to an analysis of digital retailers by Adobe Analytics, customers seem to be saying no to pants, and embracing the pajama lifestyle. Pajama sales were up 143 percent between March and April, but sales of pants were down 13 percent. Despite the shift in habits, they are unlikely to be enough to offset the overall slump in U.S. consumer spending. âIt will take a long time for sales to get back to normal and for people to feel comfortable heading back to stores,â Sucharita Kodali, a retail analyst, told CNN.
Manhattan Faces a Reckoning if Working From Home Becomes the Norm (NYT) Morgan Stanley. JPMorgan Chase. And Nielsen, the research firm. All of them occupy large amounts of expensive commercial space in Manhattanâand all of them expect to occupy considerably less space once the pandemic passes. âThey were forced by the crisis to figure out how to function productively with workers operating from homeâand realized unexpectedly that it was not all bad,â Matthew Haag reports. âWhen the dust settles, New York City could face a real estate reckoning.â The same could happen in other cities. âTwitter CEO Jack Dorsey emailed employees on Tuesday telling them that theyâd be allowed to work from home permanently, even after the coronavirus pandemic lockdown passes,â BuzzFeed News reported.
Couples turn to âminimoniesâ to salvage wedding plans (AP) Couples trying to salvage weddings put on hold by the coronavirus are feeding a fresh trend in the bridal industry: the âminimony.â Rather than wait, theyâre getting hitched alone or with a few local loved ones looking on at a safe social distance as other guests join virtually. Then they plan to reschedule larger celebrations when allowed. âWe were about to put a $15,000 deposit down on a venue when coronavirus hit,â said Kate Whiting, 35, in Northern Californiaâs tiny Lake Almanor Peninsula. âWhy would I want to wait to marry my best friend?â The 300-guest wedding of her dreams, and those of her 40-year-old fiance, Jake Avery, will happen once a COVID-19 vaccine is in place. For now, a close friend recently ordained will marry them in their yard June 6. Their approach, born of necessity, is a play on micro weddings, the first choice for some couples looking for a more intimate experience or unable to afford splashier affairs. The average cost of weddings pre-pandemic was teetering at just under $34,000, and the average guest count at 131.
Mexico prepares to start getting economy back in gear, looks to U.S. (Reuters) Mexicoâs government said it will on Wednesday set out plans to reboot the economy after weeks of disruption from coronavirus, in a move that is likely to see highly automated industries lead the way in coordination with U.S. business partners.
Latin Americaâs Outbreaks Now Rival Europeâs. But Its Options Are Worse. (NYT) Deaths doubled in Lima, rivaling the worst month of the pandemic in Paris. They tripled in Manaus, a metropolis tucked deep in Brazilâs Amazonâa surge similar to what London and Madrid endured. In Guayaquil, a port city in Ecuador, the sudden spike in fatalities in April was comparable to what New York City experienced during its worst month: more than five times the number of people died than in previous years. As the coronavirusâs toll eased in New York and in European capitals, a devastating wave has struck cities in Latin America, one that rivals the worst outbreaks in the world, an analysis of mortality data by The New York Times has found. Brazilian cities are resorting to mass graves to bury rows of stacked coffins. Hundreds of Ecuadoreans are still searching for the bodies of family members who went to hospitals and never returned. And while the catastrophes in Europe and the United States were closely monitored, playing out under intense international media scrutiny, much of Latin Americaâs pain is unfolding far from global view, under governments that canâtâor wonâtâoffer a full tally of the dead.
Brazil and the military (NYT) As Brazil grapples with its gravest health and economic challenges in a generation, and President Bolsonaro flounders under the pressure, the specter of the armed forces is looming larger over public life than at any time since the fall of the military dictatorship in 1985. As scandals have engulfed his presidency, the right-wing former Army captain has broadened the powers of the generals and former generals in his administration, allowing one to introduce a large economic aid package, undercutting his own finance minister. His most radical supporters are urging a military takeover of the governmentâand Bolsonaro has attended their rallies, amplifying their calls. Most Brazilians view the possibility of a military intervention into domestic affairs as remote. But the threat, no matter how distant, has further unsettled the unpredictable political situation in this nation of 210 million. More than 11,000 people have died of a disease the president has dismissed as a little flu. The economy is collapsing. Many hospitals have reached capacity. The jobless poor are worried about going hungry.
American Travelers to Be Pariahs in Europe? (The Daily Beast) Gone are the days of the American abroad, at least for those hoping to summer in Europe this year. The new models on how to reopen European travel do not have room for the American tourist for the foreseeable future. The European Union is set to release new guidelines called âEurope Needs a Breakâ on Wednesday that will recommend replacing travel bans with what they are calling âtargeted restrictionsâ based on contagion levels and reciprocity among European and neighboring nations, many of which have been under draconian lockdowns. The key to any successful reopening in Europe is based entirely on risk assessment, meaning anyone coming from a nation deemed risky or careless will be the first to be banned. Simply put, anyone who has been under the lax American approach to the pandemic, which has been the laughing stock of Europe, wonât be welcome any time soon. Americans, instead, will have to focus their getaway plans closer to home, like Latin America or Canada.
Coronavirus Renews Pride in U.K.âs Health Service (NYT) With its offer of free health care to all, based on need, the N.H.S. embodies qualities that Britons like to think represent the best of their nation. Now, with the health workers risking, and sometimes losing, their lives while the government is accused of mishandling the coronavirus pandemic, the health serviceâwhich was regarded before the crisis as deeply troubled after 10 years of austerity and neglectâhas become a rallying point for the nation. âIt is hard to explain how deeply embedded in our national psycheâ the health service is, said Sarah Wollaston, a former lawmaker who chaired the House of Commons Health Select Committee. âPoliticians mess with N.H.S. at their peril, because it is a national treasure.â Even before the virus struck, the health service, though struggling, was probably still Britainâs most respected institution. As a source of national pride, it ranked first and significantly above the royal family in one 2016 survey.
Portugal to take 500 refugee children from Greece camps (Reuters) Portugal is to take in 500 children from Greek refugee camps as soon as restrictions on movement imposed to contain the spread of the coronavirus outbreak are lifted, the countryâs Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva said on Tuesday. At least 5,200 unaccompanied minors live in Greece, many of them under harsh conditions in camps on islands in the Aegean, and concerns are mounting over how the disease has affected this vulnerable group.
Germany to start easing border controls from Saturday (Reuters) Germany will start to relax from Saturday some border controls introduced in March to slow the spread of the coronavirus with the aim of having free travel in Europe from mid-June, Interior Minster Horst Seehofer said on Wednesday.
Coronavirus drains Vatican coffers as income falls, deficits loom (Reuters) The pandemic has wreaked havoc with the Vaticanâs finances, forcing it to dip into reserve funds and implement some of the toughest cost control measures ever in the tiny city-state. Against this bleak backdrop, top Vatican administrators held an emergency meeting in late March. They ordered a freeze on promotions and hirings and a ban on overtime, travel and large events. The pandemic has also drastically slowed the flow of funds from the Vatican Museums, which received some 7 million visitors last year and are the cityâs most reliable cash cow. The museums, which generate an estimated $100 million yearly, have been closed since March 8 and are not expected to open until late May at the earliest, resulting in up to three months of lost revenue. Adding to the income shortfall, the two Vatican departments that manage real estate holdings in Italy offered reduced rents for commercial tenants whose businesses have been affected by the pandemic, such as some 600 stores and offices in Rome.
China seals off northeastern cities to contain new coronavirus outbreak (Bloomberg) China is sealing off cities in a northeastern province that borders North Korea as a growing cluster of cases threatens to undermine its hard-won containment of the coronavirus epidemic. Jilin city, the second-largest city in Jilin province, saw bus and rail services halted and residential compounds closed off on Wednesday after the discovery of six new cases of infection. Recently reopened schools were closed again. These six people had contact with another cluster in the adjacent city of Shulan, which was earlier put under lockdown on Sunday, suggesting that some amount of undetected spread has already taken place before authorities ordered renewed restrictions.â
Built for a global economy, Dubai now threatened by virus (AP) Dubai built a city of skyscrapers and artificial archipelagos on the promise of globalization, creating itself as a vital hub for the free movement of trade, people and money worldwideâall things that have been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Now, with events canceled, flights grounded and investment halted, this sheikdom in the United Arab Emirates is threatened both by the virus and a growing economic crisis. Under pressure even before the outbreak, Dubai and its vast web of state-linked industries face billions of dollars in looming debt repayments. And though it was bailed out a decade earlier, Dubai may not be able to count on another cash infusion, given the crash in global oil prices.
Saudi Arabia to enforce nationwide 24-hour curfew for Eid holiday (Reuters) Saudi Arabia will enforce a countrywide 24-hour curfew during the five-day Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday later this month to help stem the spread of the coronavirus, the interior ministry said on Tuesday. The curfew will apply from May 23-May 27 following the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Until then, commercial and business enterprises will remain open as they now are and people can move freely between 9 a.m. local time and 5 p.m., except in Mecca which remains under a full curfew.

Fifa World Cup 2026: Canada, US & Mexico v Morocco
Fifa World Cup 2026: Canada, US & Mexico v Morocco
Fifa World Cup 2026: Canada, US & Mexico v Morocco
One side has David Beckham lobbying and Donald Trump menacing on social media. The other is promising a âEuropeanâ World Cup in Africa.
But who will prevail on Wednesday when a vote is taken to decide on the hosts of the 2026 Fifa World Cup?
Morocco and a combined âUnited Bidâ between the United States, Canada, and Mexico are fighting for the right to stage the biggest World Cup ever held â with 48 teams playing 80 matches over 34 days.
After the controversial award of the 2018 and 2022 tournaments to Russia and Qatar respectively, Fifa has promised a âmore open and transparentâ vote this time.
But what are the two bids offering? How will the vote work? And who is going to host the World Cup in eight yearsâ time?
Long-haul flights & three nations â the United Bid
The 23 potential World Cup 2026 venues in Canada, the United States and Mexico â 10 of the 17 USA cities would eventually be used
Former England captain David Beckham says âgreat countriesâ deserve the World Cup and that he would go as a fan if the United Bid succeeds.
But US president Donald Trump took a slightly different tack, issuing a veiled warning on Twitter to âcountries that we always supportâ in case they think about voting for Morocco on Wednesday.
Both Mexico and the United States have already hosted World Cups on their own, the former in 1970 and 1986, and the latter in 1994. Canada staged the 2015 Womenâs World Cup.
US Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro says the bid would generate $14bn (ÂŁ10.3bn) in revenue and make an $11bn (ÂŁ8.1bn) profit for Fifa
Of the 16 host cities, 10 would be in the United States with the others split evenly between Canada and Mexico.
The final would be at the 84,953-capacity MetLife Stadium, which is home to NFL sides the New York Giants and the New York Jets.
The distance between the most northern venue (Edmonton) and the most southern (Mexico City) is almost 3,000 miles.
That compares to 1,900 miles in Russia (Kaliningrad to Ekaterinburg) this summer and more than 2,800 miles in Brazil in 2014 (Manaus to Porto Alegre).
Fifth time lucky? The Morocco bid
âWe wouldnât bid if we werenât 200% convinced we can deliverâ â Morocco bid chief
Four times they have bid, and four times they have been overlooked. But could it be different on this occasion for Morocco?
A Fifa bid evaluation task force ratified their proposals, but did note concerns over stadiums, the availability of accommodation, and the travel network.
However, bid chief Hicham El Amrani said he was confident the countryâs infrastructure âcould deliverâ and made play of the North African nationâs position, nine miles from the southern tip of Spain.
âA Moroccan World Cup is not just an African World Cup,â he told BBC Sport. âIt would also be almost a European World Cup. Weâre just a few hoursâ flying distance from capital cities across Europe.â
Games would be in 14 stadiums â six of which need to be built â located in 12 cities.
Every host city is located within a 550km radius of Casablanca.
The final would be in the 93,000-capacity Grand Stade de Casablanca.
It would only be the second World Cup on the continent, after South Africa hosted in 2010.
Morocco hosted 16 teams for the 2018 African Nations Championship in January and February, and also staged the Fifa Club World Cup in 2013 and 2014.
The potential venues in Morocco â there would be 14 stadiums across these 12 cities
So what will happen on Wednesday?
The 68th Fifa Congress will be held in Moscow, with proceedings starting at 07:00 BST. The vote itself is the 13th item on the agenda, so bed in for a long day.
Things are going to be simpler than previously, though. After the controversy around the award of the 2018 and 2022 finals to Russia and Qatar respectively, Fifaâs 22-strong executive committee will no longer vote on behalf of the membership.
Instead, the two bids will make a final 15-minute presentation and then the 211 Fifa member nations â minus Canada, Mexico, Morocco and the US â will each cast a vote.
The option of âneither bidâ is also on the ballot. In the unlikely event that gathers 50% or more of the vote, the process will be reopened and European and Asian nations will be permitted to bid, having initially been disbarred under Fifaâs host continent rotation policy.
More likely is that neither the Moroccan or âUnited Bidâ will claim the 104 votes needed for an outright majority, and a second vote will be taken in which delegates much choose one or the other.
And should the âUnited Bidâ win narrowly, that might well lead to the Moroccans reviving their grievance against the fact that US territories Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico get a vote.
So where will the World Cup be in 2026?
BBC sports news correspondent Richard Conway
After years of covering Fifa politics and voting decisions Iâve learnt one thing: follow the money.
This vote for the 2026 World Cup has been taken out of the hands of a small cabal of Fifa executives and entrusted to its 211 member associations.
It is supposed to reduce the risk of corruption â something Fifa desperately needed to do following past controversies.
So where does the money come in this time?
The US, Canada and Mexico joint bid is promising Fifa associations vast profits of $11bn (ÂŁ8.2bn). That compares with around $6bn (ÂŁ4.48bn) from Morocco.
That kind of cash â divested over many years and relied on by many smaller football associations to survive and develop the game â makes a compelling argument.
So too do promises of a risk-free build-up in three countries where infrastructure is strong and the stadiums are already built.
The people connected to the two rival bids have exuded confidence in recent days.
But money talks in Fifa land. I expect it will again on Wednesday.

North America or Morocco - Who will host the 2026 World Cup?

Former England captain David Beckham says[1] âgreat countriesâ deserve the World Cup and that he would go as a fan if the United Bid succeeds.
But US president Donald Trump took a slightly different tack, issuing a veiled warning on Twitter[2] to âcountries that we always supportâ in case they think about voting for Morocco on Wednesday.
