Mini rant but please tell me why I have just seen someone legitimately say it doesn’t matter if university students use ai to write their essays
#like….#yes academia is a shit show but come ON#when arts and humanities departments are being closed at institutions all over the country perhaps lets not encourage people to view these#courses as any more expendable and disposable than they already are#and what does ai-generated essays do but undermine the whole fucking point of it all?#like there is a reason i am staying well clear of higher education academia now i have my doctorate#and a reason why so many lecturers are abandoning it altogether#it is a hellscape atm and saying its alright for students to use ai on their assignments??? not helping#you might think you're sticking it to the big guys that run universities these days when you use chatgpt for an essay#but when youre found out - and you will be - thats taken as a strike against the department and since funding is dependent on student grade#all you're really doing is directly contributing to the funding cuts that are making uk higher education a fucking dismal place#soon enough a university education will once again be the reserve of the wealthy and it is this exact attitude that will make it possible#and as a first-gen working class student that managed to make it all the way to phd level through sheer fucking hard work...#this is the most depressing and infuriating take ive seen for a long time

THURSDAY HERO: Nicholas Winton
The British Schindler: Nicholas Winton
He saved 669 children.
Nicholas Winton was a young British stockbroker who rescued 669 Czech Jewish children from being sent to Nazi death camps. He never told anybody of his heroism, and the story only came out 50 years later after his wife found an old briefcase in the attic containing lists of children he’d saved.
Nicholas was a 29 year old clerk at the London stock exchange getting ready for a ski trip to Switzerland when he received an urgent call from his friend Martin Blake. Known to be passionately opposed to Nazism, Martin urged Nicholas to cancel his vacation and come to Prague immediately. He told Nicolas, “I have a most interesting assignment and I need your help. Don’t bother bringing your skis.”
It is a testament to Nicolas’ sterling character and strong moral compass that he didn’t waver for a moment. It was an easy decision to sacrifice his fun and relaxing ski trip and instead travel to a dangerous place on a mysterious mission.
Two months earlier, in October 1938, Nazi Germany had annexed the Sudetenland It was clear that the Nazis would soon occupy all of Czechoslovakia. When he reached Prague, Nicholas was shocked by the huge influx of refugees fleeing from the Nazis. In early November, the Kristallnacht pogrom occurred in Germany and Austria. Jews were killed in the street and hundreds of synagogues burned down, as well as Jewish-owned businesses. This horrifying event shocked the Jewish community in eastern Europe, and thousands were now desperate to flee.
Born to Jewish parents, Nicholas was actually Jewish himself. However, his parents changed their name from Wertheim and converted to Christianity before he was born. Nicholas was baptized and raised as a Christian, and he didn’t consider himself Jewish (although was doubtless aware that Hitler would.)
In Prague, organizations were springing up to help sick and elderly refugees, but Nicholas noticed that nobody was trying to help the children. In his words, “I found out that the children of refugees and other groups of people who were enemies of Hitler weren’t being looked after. I decided to try to get permits to Britain for them. I found out that the conditions which were laid down for bringing in a child were chiefly that you had a family that was willing and able to look after the child, and fifty pounds, which was quite a large sum of money in those days, that was to be deposited at the Home Office. The situation was heartbreaking. Many of the refugees hadn’t the price of a meal. Some of the mothers tried desperately to get money to buy food for themselves and their children. The parents desperately wanted at least to get their children to safety when they couldn’t manage to get visas for the whole family. I began to realize what suffering there is when armies start to march.”
Nicholas knew something had to be done, and he decided to be the one to do it. He later remembered, “Everybody in Prague said, ‘Look, there is no organization in Prague to deal with refugee children, nobody will let the children go on their own, but if you want to have a go, have a go.’ And I think there is nothing that can’t be done if it is fundamentally reasonable.”
Nicholas decided to find homes for the children in the UK, where they would be safe. He set up a command center in his hotel room in Wenceslas Square and his first step was to contact the refugee offices of different national governments and see how many children they could accept. Only two countries agreed to take any Jewish children: Sweden and Great Britain, which pledged to accept all children under age 18 as long as they had homes and fifty pounds to pay for their trip home.
With this green light from Great Britain, Nicholas did everything possible to find homes for the children. He returned to London and did much of the planning from there, which enabled him to continue working at the Stock Exchange and soliciting funds from other bankers to pay for his work with the refugees. Winton needed a large amount of money to pay for transportation costs, foster homes, and many other necessities such as food and medicine.
Nicholas placed ads in newspapers large and small all over Great Britain, as well as in hundreds of church and synagogue newsletters. Knowing he had to play on people’s emotions to convince them to open their home to young strangers who didn’t even speak English, Nicholas printed flyers with pictures of children seeking refuge. He was tireless in his efforts and persuaded an incredible number of heroic Brits to welcome the traumatized young refugees into their homes and hearts.
The office in Wenceslas Square was manned by fellow Brit Trevor Chadwick. Every day terrified parents came in and begged him to find temporary homes for their children. Despite Nicholas’ success in finding places for the kids to stay, British and German government bureaucrats made things difficult, demanding multiple forms and documents. Nicholas said, “Officials at the Home Office worked very slowly with the entry visas. We went to them urgently asking for permits, only to be told languidly, ‘Why rush, old boy? Nothing will happen in Europe.’ This was a few months before the war broke out. So we forged the Home Office entry permits.”
The first transport of children boarded airplanes in Prague which took them to Britain. Nicholas organized an amazing seven more transports, all of them by train, and then boat across the English Channel. The children met their foster families at the train station and Winton took great care in making the matches between children and foster parents.
The children’s transport organized by Nicholas Winton was similar to the later, larger Kindertransport operation, but specifically for Czech Jewish children. Nicholas saved an astounding 669 children on eight transports. Tragically, the largest transport of all was scheduled for September 1, 1939 – but on that day, Hitler invaded Poland and all borders were closed by Germany. Winton was haunted for decades by the remembrance of the 250 children he last saw boarding the train. “Within hours of the announcement, the train disappeared. None of the 250 children aboard was seen again. We had 250 families waiting at Liverpool Street that day in vain. If the train had been a day earlier, it would have come through. Not a single one of those children was heard of again, which is an awful feeling.”
Nicholas joined the British military and spent the rest of the war serving as a pilot in the Royal Air Force, attaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant. After the war, Nicholas worked for the International Refugee Organization in Paris, where he met and married Grete Gjelstrup, a Danish secretary. They moved to Maidenhead, in Great Britain, and had three children. Their youngest child, Robin, had Down Syndrome, and at that time children with the condition were usually sent to institutions. However Nicholas and Grete wouldn’t consider it and instead kept their son at home with the family. Tragically, Robin died of meningitis the day before his sixth birthday. Nicholas was devastated by the loss, and became an active volunteer with Mencap, a charity to help people with Down Syndrome and other developmental delays. He remained involved in Mencap for over fifty years.
Humble – and perhaps traumatized by the children on the train he wasn’t able to save – Nicholas rarely talked about his wartime heroism and his own family didn’t know the details. It was only in 1988 that Nicholas Winton became widely known. His wife found an old notebook of his containing lists of the children he saved. Working with a Holocaust researcher, she tracked down some of the children and located eighty of them still living in Britain. These grown children, some with grandchildren, found out for the first time who had saved them.
The BBC television show called That’s Life! invited Nicholas to the filming an episode that became one of the most emotional clips in TV history. With Nicholas in the audience, the host told his story, including photos and details about some of the children he’d saved. Then she the told Nicholas that one of those children was the woman in the seat next to him! They embraced, teary eyed, and the host announced there were more grown children in the audience as well. She asked everybody who owed their life to Nicholas Winton to stand up. The entire audience stood up, as Nicholas sat stunned, wiping away the tears.
After that, Nicholas was showered with honors, including a knighthood for services to humanity. Known as the British Schindler, he met the Queen multiple times and received the Pride of Britain Award for Lifetime Achievement, both for saving refugee children and working with Mencap to improve the lives of people with cognitive differences. There are multiple statues of him in Prague and the UK, and his story was the subject of three films.
Nicholas Winton died in Britain in July 2015, at age 106. Today there are tens of thousands of people who owe their lives to Nicholas Winton.
For saving hundreds of Jewish children, we honor Nicholas Winton as this week’s Thursday Hero.

Good morning Mr.Haitch (I’m assuming it’s morning)
How was your weekend? Mine flew by, and I’m still feeling burnt out from the all-nighters I pulled to finish all my assignments.
Onwards to the questions
1) would you rather eat the same thing for the rest of your life (but it’s something you hate) or dress up in the same outfit for the rest of your life (but it’s a fashion atrocity that you committed during your teens)
2) what is your least favorite thing about being an academic?
3) can you draw/ sketch?
4) I don’t know how I never asked this before but do you also have tattoos? And if you don’t, do you see yourself getting one in the future?
5) Have your kids ever said/ done something, that amazed you to some degree?
6) what’s the worst shenanigans your kids have gotten up to?
Sorry for bombarding you with questions so early in the day.
(Also if that academic-anon is reading this, I wanted to say I see you and I feel you. Believe me, performing exceptionally in your exams doesn’t equate to happiness, and this is coming from someone who has gotten straight As all her life. Burn out, depression, constant sense of anxiety doesn’t simply go away if you scored better. Agreed, that you would feel a momentary sense of accomplishment, but like I said, it would be temporary.
I understand your need to perform better than your siblings, to be recognized as someone who has achieved something. Those are things that would help you respect yourself. Do you respect yourself? Because other’s opinion doesn’t matter until you respect the efforts you put into your work. So what if you’re not performing how you want right now, atleast acknowledge the hard work that went into it. Pat yourself on the back for these little victories. You woke up, you faced another day, and one day when you look back, you would surely be proud that you persisted.
You did good. You tried. And that’s what matters 🫂)
It is morning. The weekend was busy as usual, but we spent some time with Haitch's family which was nice.
1) Well my most embarrassing teenage outfit was oversized t-shirts, combat camo cargo trousers, and trainers that were falling apart - which was awful, but very comfortable. It'd have to be that one.
2) It would have to be the insane workload and level of expectation from managers. Teaching, research, pastoral care, administration, supporting with open days, applicant days, working shifts on the clearing phone lines, graduation, exam invigilating, assessing, public appearances, conferences, social media, dealing with the press. It's an endless horror show where, in the UK, you could STILL do all that and still be made redundant so the university can renovate their sports hall.
3) Hah. No.
4) I do not. I've got some ideas, which Haitch and I have talked over. I'd like to memorialise my PhD with a plague doctor tattoo somewhere (PhD during COVID = plague doctor, no one can take that title away from me).
5) I remember our oldest saying sarcophagus without any hesitation or errors once. To be honest, though, when your kids learn to speak it's an endless series of amazing and surprising moments - especially when their personality begins to coalesce.
6) A couple of years ago we went to Disneyland Paris for my 30th birthday. Big family thing - my parents and youngest brother came along. We'd gone somewhere for lunch and our eldest was kicking off, just bored and overstimulated, so I took him for a walk around the corner. We passed a staff member who smiled and waved, I smiled and waved back, but then I saw her face pivot to shock, and then she covered her mouth to suppress a laugh. When I looked around at my son, I discovered he was flipping her off from behind my back. I picked him up under my arm, mumbled a barely comprehensible apology in french, and took him away for a bollocking.
I'd also like to add that I agree with everything you've said for academic-anon, couldn't have said it better myself. I'm not very emotionally articulate first thing in the morning.

Merlin BBC UK TV Show - A Psychological Analysis Series Part 11
Season 2 Episode 9 - “ The Lady of the Lake”
Writing this post proved to be a challenge as I had to condense all my thoughts and ideas in a coherent manner without it being all over the place.
While providing a synopsis of the episode, I will be highlighting the subliminal themes portrayed here in CAPITAL LETTERS AS WELL AS MY ANALYSIS to cover every aspect of the episode.
____________________________________________________________
Merlin is introduced to the character of Freya, a Druid girl trapped in a bounty hunter's cage (RESTRICTION) belonging to a man named Halig.
Despite Gaius's warnings not to interfere and against a background of a stormy night (INTERNAL CONFLICT) Merlin openly uses magic (QUEERNESS) in-front of Freya to reassure her that he is there to help and frees her, before narrowly escaping Halig.
Merlin hides the girl in the catacombs (THE PLACE THE OVERWROUGHT SUBCONSCIOUS MIND BURIES ALL OF THE PROBLEMS AND SECRETS ) beneath Camelot (SOCIETY) and promises to look after her.
She asks Merlin why he saved her and he says it could have easily been him in the cage (BOTH MERLIN AND FREYA ARE MAGICAL CREATURES LIVING IN A SOCIETY THAT CONDEMNS THEM FOR WHO THEY ARE)
Halig goes to Uther and notifies him of Freya's escape with the help of an accomplice. Uther assigns a detachment of guards to capture them.
The next 30 minutes of the episode becomes the main core of my analysis.
_____________________________________________________________
Merlin performing domestic duties for Arthur:
IN THE PATRIARCHIAL WORLD OF UTHER'S CAMELOT, MERLIN PERFORMS TASKS WHICH ARE CONSIDERED FEMININE.
MERLIN PREPARES AND SERVES ARTHUR FOOD.
MERLIN PREPARES ARTHUR'S BATH.
MERLIN CLEANS ARTHUR'S CLOTHES AND SHOES.
MERLIN FUSSES OVER ARTHURS WEIGHT AND APPEARANCE.
ALL WHICH HE DOES EVERYDAY FOR WHICH HE IS NEVER APPRECIATED OR THANKED.
SOUNDS LIKE A COMPLAINT A LOT OF WIVES HAVE.
_____________________________________________________________
Arthur views Merlin as feminine and lacking masculine traits:
ARTHUR SEES MERLIN CARRYING A BLACK DRESS AND ASSUMES IT IS FOR MERLIN HIMSELF
youtube
_____________________________________________________________
Merlin steals food from Arthur to give it to Freya:
youtube
FOOD AND SEX HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED FROM ANTIQUITY.
EVEN MODERN STUDIES HAVE CONFIRMED THE STRONG CONNECTION BETWEEN SEX AND FOOD.
SOURCE: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Correlations-between-sex-and-eating-variables_tbl1_290219210
JUDEO-CHRISTIANITY SEES GLUTTONY AND LUST AS INTERCHANGEABLE, BOTH SINS OF THE FLESH.
IN MEDIEVAL TIMES, AN UNFAITHFUL WIFE WAS OFTEN ACCUSED OF HIDING FOOD FROM HER HUSBAND ONLY TO GIVE IT TO HER LOVER (MAKING HER ADULTERY AN ECONOMIC PROBLEM AS WELL).
USING THE CONTEXT ABOVE, IT IS QUITE FUNNY TO SEE HOW MERLIN STEALS FLESH (MEAT) FROM ARTHUR TO GIVE IT TO FREYA.
_____________________________________________________________
Freya reveals to Merlin that she is cursed:
HERE THE CURSE THAT FREYA IS TALKING ABOUT IS HER BEING A TRANSGENDER PERSON.
THERE ARE FEW BETTER SYMBOLS FOR SOMEONE GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS OF FEMALE-TO-MALE TRANSITION THAN THE HUMAN TO CREATURE TRANSFORMATION TROPE.
WHEN YOU ARE ON HRT TESTOSTERONE THERAPY, MOST PEOPLE BECOME HAIRIER AND STRONGER AND GAIN MUSCLE, WHICH IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE BASTET CREATURE TRANSFORMATION BY FREYA.
PLEASE NOTE, I AM NOT SAYING THAT TRANSGENDER PEOPLE ARE CURSED. I AM SIMPLY SAYING IT CAN FEEL LIKE A CURSE CONSIDERING THE BIGOTRY AND HATE TRANSGENDER PEOPLE FACE.
______________________________________________________________
Freya and Merlin profess their love for each other and kiss.
Against this background, Halig is narrowing in on Freya's hideout.
Freya decides to escape Camelot, believing that Merlin is better off without her. She is then confronted by Arthur, Halig and a group of knights.
Arthur manages to badly wound Freya in her Bastet form before being distracted by a gargoyle which was toppled by Merlin.( IT IS A REAL COINCIDENCE THAT ARTHUR ATTACKS FREYA WHO HAD KISSED MERLIN A FEW MOMENTS AGO, SIMILARLY TO HOW ARTHUR WOULD ATTACK LANCELOT FOR KISSING GWEN IN SEASON 4 EPISODE 9)
Merlin runs after Freya to find her mortally wounded. (IT IS THE OBJECT OF MERLIN’S HOMOSEXUAL DESIRES (ARTHUR) WHO KILLS THE OBJECT OF HIS HETEROSEXUAL DESIRE (FREYA) )
A heartbroken Merlin places her body on a boat and uses his magic to give her a traditional funeral by the lake. (I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY POIGNANT IN HINDSIGHT BECAUSE ONCE FREYA DIES AND BECOMES LADY OF THE LAKE THESE TWO NEVER SHARE A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP AGAIN. SHE IS LITERALLY SUBMERGED INTO THE LAKE WHICH IS A METPHAPHOR FOR MERLIN’S CONCIOUSNESS. LOCKED AWAY FOREVER)
Back at Camelot, Arthur aware that Merlin is upset helps cheer him up before delegating him more tasks. (MERLIN'S HOMOSEXUALITY HAS FINALLY WON OUT AND HE HAS ACCEPTED HIS DESTINY I.E ARTHUR ROFLMAO. PRIOR TO THIS EPISODE MERLIN DID SHOW HINTS OF ATTRACTION TOWARDS THE OPPOSITE SEX. THIS IS EVIDENCED BY HIM ADMIRING MORGANA IN SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 AND NIMUEH IN SEASON 1 EPISODE 4. HOWEVER FROM THIS EPISODE ON, MERLIN SHOWS NO ATTRACTION TO ANY FEMALE CHARACTER WHAT SO EVER. THIS IS EXPRESSED EXPLICITLY IN SEASON 4 EPISODE 8 WHERE THE LAMIA SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO ENCHANT ALL THE MEN EXCEPT MERLIN. GWEN EVEN ASKS WHY EVERY MAN EXCEPT MERLIN HAS BEEN ENCHANTED.)
I TRULY ENJOYED THIS EPISODE AS IT IS RIFE WITH SYMBOLISM FOR ME TO PICK APART AND ANALYZE !

There were only two things in your life that remained consistent, flowers and Kyle Garrick. Well, maybe only one thing. Flowers could always be plucked from your garden during the warmer months or from your local grocer's when the weather turned cool and the leaves began to fall. Even in the dead of winter, you were able to have the most colorful and pristine petals gently wrapped and shipped to your doorstep from a warmer continent. Kyle, on the other hand, was not as easy to access. As you sat trimming your newest floral harvest, you reminisced about the days spent in the garden and with your old friend.
Periwinkle - Tender recollections
Growing up in the countryside of Worcestershire allowed you and your mum to care for a front lawn of wildflowers and a garden filled with rows of cultivated flowers. She was the town's florist, widowed too early due to a reckless driver. You had no memories of your father but your mother made sure to be the support system you needed from two parents. From a young age, she painstakingly taught you all you needed to know about life. She began with basic life skills such as cooking as well as encouraging you to read and write from an early age. Your bookshelf was never empty as she kept it stocked with classics, books about famous scientists, and numerous language workbooks. However, she was most proud when showing you how to maintain a garden filled with fickle flowers. She would tell you when to water a drooping English rose bush and how to test the soil's acidity to know what color the blooming hydrangeas would eventually show. In Year 1 for an assignment, you proudly depicted your mother in her faded overalls and bandana, surrounded by flowers with smiley faces and their floral names written as name tags.
"Mum what does this one mean?" you questioned as you plucked a delicate navy blue flower from its stem. In your small hands, you held it at its truncated base and pinched the funnel-shaped petals gently. As you examined it further, you could see the petals were separated by a deep maroon and you admired the richness that painted the singular flower. "Those are morning glories, my love. They mean 'affection'," your mum answered, balancing a basket filled with bunches of dahlias, striped tulips, chrysanthemums, and peonies. "You should write that down in your notebook, the one the neighbour boy gave you."
Daffodils - new beginnings
Following the end of Year 1, a small boy began living next door to you with his grandparents. They introduced him as Kyle, their grandson from Manchester, who would be staying with them for the entirety of the warmer months. Your mum had known this as his grandmother frequently exchanged baked goods for a beautifully arranged bouquet and some English lavender to cook with. The elderly Garricks were there for your mum following the loss of her husband and helped her out when she had to manage the florist shop. They were the family you needed and you were excited to meet their actual grandson.
When he first moved in, your mother held your hand and walked you to their house. You were dressed in your typical summer gardening clothes, khaki shorts, and a light airy shirt that was a few sizes too big for you. She allowed you to hold her newest bouquet along with your hand-written Welcome card made with crayons and dried flowers. As you exited the rows of wildflowers and walked up his sidewalk, you could see a small boy your age laughing with his grandma on the porch.
"Good afternoon, you must be Kyle," your mum said as the little boy ran to hide behind his grandma's rustic rocking chair.
"Now, Kyle, don't be shy. Look Y/N has something to give to you!" his grandma replied slowly pushing Kyle in your direction.
"These are my mummy's flowers," you said sweetly. "She also told me to say that each of these has a meaning."
"Go on, Y/N," your mother said as she went to sit opposite Kyle's grandmother. You took a seat on the porch and put the bouquet into Kyle's small hands.
"You can take the string to make it easier," you said. You then began pointing to each flower, "These purple and lilac ones are wisterias and they mean 'welcome', these other purple ones are periwinkles, I picked them out myself! These mean 'early friendship'," you continued.
"Wait I know what this is! My city mum has it dried in our kitchen" he excitedly said and went to pick up the various musky, floral-scented valerian flowers. As he picked at the small delicate, pink blossoms he asked, "Do they have a meaning too?"
"It's two big words, but I think my mum knows!" you responded, just as you spoke your mum heard your struggle and elaborated, "It means an 'accommodating disposition'. It's to describe someone easy to get along with and always willing to be there for you.
"That's so cool!" Kyle said, "I have a notebook with all these big words to show to my Manchester friends. In Year 2, I'm going to be the smartest one," he beamed.
He quickly ran inside and retrieved two journals. Both were made of leather and were no bigger than a regular soft-cover book. One was worn with the spine showing where Kyle had opened the book and placed it flat to write. The other looked new, showing no signs of wear.
"My grandad made this for me, he also made one for you," he said and handed you the journal. "He said to give it to you so we can write in it together, you with flowers and mine with big, adult words."
You could hear the women chuckle, the shy Kyle was quick to come around to you and was talking as if you had been best friends since elementary.
"Wait, we should get cool flower names together and write them inside," he shouted, clearly showing his enthusiasm.
"My teacher says my handwriting is bad so I'll ask my mum. Plus she knows like a whole book on flower meanings," you said and got up with Kyle walking towards your mother.
She took out a pen from her pocket and held your journals in her hand. As she thought for a moment, she suddenly gasped jokingly as if a lightbulb went off and scribbled in both of your books.
Neatly written in your mother's handwriting were both of your names. Under Kyle's was 'Sycamore - Curiosity' and under yours was 'Clematis - Mental beauty'
For the rest of the summer, you and Kyle were inseparable. Being one of the only children in your village, you found comfort in each other. Some days, he would come over to your home, helping your mum with weeding and watering. She gave you both small satchels that you could hold your notebooks and pencils in. As you followed her around, you would try your best to legibly write the flower, what it looked like, and its meaning. Kyle, on the other hand, would be asking your mum for definitions whenever she used words like perennials, idyllic, or serendipity.
When your mum had to manage her shop, you went to his house. You would always walk back to your house full and covered in flour. His grandma, affectionately called Nana, put you both to work. In the morning, she would show you both how to make a variety of bread from scratch and taught you both patience as you had to wait for the bread to rise. In the afternoon, she would be pulling cookbooks off the shelf to cook a new dish from a different country. She used to work as a flight attendant and always made sure to eat at least one new thing while on a layover. Her laughs would fill the room as both you and Kyle leaned over the sink to drink some water after she fed you some spicy peppers. As a reward for building your spice tolerance, she would gift you with Grandad's award-winning lemonade. He would usually be in his workshop, working on leather goods and other items to sell at the local market but always would come out to make some lemonade.
One time, your mother sent you a cheesecloth filled with mint, marigolds, and honeysuckles to add to the lemonade. Ever the child, you dug your hand into the finished lemonade and tried to put a marigold behind Kyle's ear. You chased him around the kitchen island with your sticky, sugary fingers until you finally were able to tuck it behind his left ear. Little did you know, during your little Ring Around the Rosie, he was able to grab some loose flour and threw it at you. Needless to say, Nana and Grandad made you both sit in the tub while they attempted to clean the sticky lemonade and flour off both of your clothes.
At the end of summer, you tearfully gripped a flower bouquet in your hand. Kyle's mum was coming to get him today and bring him back to Manchester for the new school year. You had numerous conversations with your mother and she explained, "This isn't a goodbye, more of an 'I'll see you again soon!'" Her decision to send you with freesias (lasting friendship), pansy (think of me), rosemary (remembrance), and forget-me-nots (one of your favorites as it had a literal meaning), seemed fit.
As you walked to his room, you could hear your mum chatting with his describing the amazing summer you both had. You nudged his door open, you could also see his eyes puffy from crying all morning. His room was missing his books, including a dictionary you gifted him with from the local bookshop. As you went to sit next to him, you could see he held the familiar leather journal. He had added 3 more pages and you were jealous of his neat handwriting.
"I have some flowers for you," you said and laid them in his hand. "I also wrote you a note so you wouldn't forget what they mean." With that, you pulled out a piece of floral stationery from your pocket and handed it to him. As he looked at it, a small tear fell on the paper and soon you both were in a puddle of tears. Once you both cried all your emotions out, he tucked the tear-stained paper in his journal and pulled you into a hug.
"Please come back next summer, I'll have a new collection of flowers to show you and my mum will have more words for you to learn," you said, voice breaking.
"Until next summer," Kyle said and you both walked down to his mum's car. Your mum held you tight to her side as you both waved him goodbye in front of your signature wildflower lawn. ┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊┊

I wonder if the dnpg havent an agent confirms that they want to properly turn the 'dan and phil' brand back into a Thing, like properly. Which is a lot if they are also focusing on solo stuff, but idk, its all very exciting, ig we'll see how it works out
i'm overwhelmed by thoughts right now. it doesn't make sense even in my head.
like,,, let's see. dnpg returned because wad almost flopped and Dan realised that he needs the audience back. great, better late than never. a complete change of management. aiming for UK and USA agencies, and getting them! IT pitching wad to companies to make/sell wad dvd. amazing stuff. at the same fucking time dnpg's return was in the works. not only dnpg but the whole dnp brand. the only difference is dnp™ doesn't intervene with AP and Dan's solo image/projects. they are investing so much time and money into dnpg. 3 different managers in IT!! that's a lot of help. Dan has at least 1 manager in UTA. and all of them are assigned to different projects related to dnp. soft and neat, mfs.
at the same fucking time, pardon my french, if dnpg was brought back to life to bring the audience back, it should be used to promote their solo stuff. how? i don't know! if the main goal was to separate AP / Dan / dnpg, then throwing wad promo on dnpg would be strange, unless it's done in relation to Phil/ with Phil (mukbang, because in 2018 they said they could do it again. or something similar). i can't even say anything about dan is not okay, i'm so scarred. like, i WANT him to use their platforms wisely, i want him to promote his solo stuff so it reaches the majority of us. i want him to succeed. the separation between brands just confuses me a bit. unless they don't take it seriously, and the lines can be blured when it comes to promo. which is yeah, go for it!
if we have something other than wad and dan is not okay – 🤯. touring. oh boy. ladydoor tour 2.0? Dan's real stand-up comedy attempt in smaller venues? if he is actully aiming for 2025/2026, i'm gonna die.
#gamingmas is coming. oh my fucking god#did anyone ask dan about wad dvd on twitter?.#by wad dvd i mean it can be transformed into something else. but it's still wad come on#and look. after 2026 dnpg is dead for real. i'm telling you 2027 MAX#answered#uta#inter talent#dan and phil

Good day, Sabrina.
May I ask, what are the Magnus Institute and the Usher Foundation? I've tried looking at the internet and my own records, but I can't seem to find anything on it. It seems interesting, and I'd love to learn what I can.
— The Manager (Not your manager. Don't worry.)
The Magnus institute and Usher foundation both work with the paranormal, more referred to as entities/powers/dread powers/fears.
We have an archive with (mostly) written encounters. We have a research department which looks more into these statements/testimonies (and other things they have been assigned to). We have a library with books regarding the paranormal. We also have an artifact storage where we look into and store items containing entities (nearly all of these are given to us in some way.)
The Magnus institute is the only one in UK and located in London. The Usher foundation is in USA with several locations around the country. There are more like us in other countries but I don’t know the names for each and there’s a lot of countries…
I have the usernames to a few working in archives (only Magnus institute), library (both) and research (both) if you’re interested in knowing more about those! I do also have the username for two working in artifact storage Magnus institute if you prefer that.
Hope this helped!
#if anything was unclear you can always ask for clarification#and if you don’t know about the entites… that requires another post#oc rp#tma rp#usher foundation#the magnus institute#ask

𝙟𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙩 + kit numbers
51 ( 𝕞𝕒𝕟𝕔𝕙𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝕔𝕚𝕥, 2015-2020 )
tartt was raised by city's academy, the elite development squad. on the elite squad, tartt wore number 51, a number he brought with him to the premier league in his debut in 2015. tartt averaged 8.9 minutes per match with city, with 7 goals to his name in the five years he played for city, under manager 𝐩𝐞𝐩 𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐚. tartt's highlights under man city include a free kick to finalise a 4-0 score against 𝚠𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝚑𝚊𝚖 𝚞𝚗𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚍 in 2020, as well as an assist to relegate 𝚊𝚏𝚌 𝚛𝚒𝚌𝚑𝚖𝚘𝚗𝚍 to the championship league, also in 2020.
9 ( 𝕒𝕗𝕔 𝕣𝕚𝕔𝕙𝕞𝕠𝕟𝕕, 2019- )
-- tartt enjoyed a successful loan period at richmond during the 2019-2020 season. strange, isn't it, for a loanee to be assigned the 9 kit, one of the highest honours a manager can give a striker?
-- i'd say so. but let's see what tartt can do with this free kick opportunity - he hasn't missed one all season.
tartt's time at richmond began under owner 𝘳𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 and manager 𝐠𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤, and his loan was terminated under ownership of 𝘳𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘤𝘢 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘵𝘰𝘯 and manager 𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐨. tartt made his return to lasso's richmond in 2021, fresh off of the uk's number one show, lust conquers all. he kept the 9 kit - some may say an insult to 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗮𝘀 of mexico, a brilliant striker of his own right, though perhaps he wears 14 by choice. others may say lasso simply doesn't know the meaning of the kit numbers, despite his half season managing richmond in 2020, leading to their relegation from the premier league to the championship. tartt in 9 for richmond is a brilliant player, who only seems to be growing into his boots. he's a leader on the pitch, and you can tell just by watching that his relationship with his teammates is a strong one. a big change for tartt, as, during his loan period, it was rare to see tartt pass the ball. highlights under lasso's richmond include a masterful orchestration of a goal against 𝚊𝚛𝚜𝚎𝚗𝚊𝚕 in 2022, where all eleven of richmond's players touched the ball on the way to the goal, finalized by 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗿 ( france, 8 ), and a brace against 𝚝𝚘𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚗𝚑𝚊𝚖 𝚑𝚘𝚝𝚜𝚙𝚞𝚛 during the fa cup quarterfinal match - including a free kick from deep on the pitch - in 2021, leading to championship league richmond making their wembley debut against city in the semifinals that year. tartt has made a name for himself at richmond, and we're excited to see where his career goes from here.
24 ( 𝕖𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕒𝕟𝕕, 2022- )
tartt won his first well-earned cap for england earlier this season, surely making his loved ones proud. when given his choice of kit numbers for the three lions, tartt chose 24, a nod to his richmond teammate, 𝘀𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗯𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗮, a player we expect to see making his national debut sooner rather than later. when asked for comment on his kit choice, tartt replied,
"yeah, it [was] simple. sam's one of the greatest players i've seen set foot on a pitch before, and i've seen a lot. he's [redacted] brilliant, he is. lad's gonna go big places, bright places. it's an honour to wear his number on this stage."
tartt was substituted in during the 65th minute of england's most recent international match, and he already boasts sixteen touches, ten completed dribbles, one assist, and a free kick in the 84th minute for a goal for the three lions, helping them secure the 8-0 win. surely, this won't be the last we see of tartt in 24 for england.
#headcanons !#mirror !#i just spent way too long typing all this up but :))))) my baby :))))#if you are not one of my mutuals pls don't reblog this thank you#tl spoilers#edits !
