What Makes You Beautiful

When We Were Young Masterlist Summary: The band are shooting their music video for WMYB and Louis gets jealous when Harry sings to YN.

Today the band were shooting the music video for their first single, 'What Makes You Beautiful', in Malibu. YN and the five boys sat in the orange camper van, talking to the camera that was filming the behind-the-scenes. YN sat beside Zayn, in front of Louis, as Harry began to explain that the band were on set to shoot their first music video, Louis begins to poke at YN's cheek from behind her. She turns around to face the older boy and sends him a playful glare causing Niall and Liam to share a knowing look at Louis' attempt to get YN's attention.

"I'm about to attempt to drive..this lovely vehicle" Louis explains to the camera as he stands looking at the van. The clip shows YN sitting in the front passenger seat next to Louis, with a nervous look painted on her face. At one point YN is pretending to sing to the camera and Louis grabs her chin with his hand and pretends to sing to her, making the pair laugh. The six of them are running around the beach, messing around, laughing and joking with eachother.

Louis' whole demeanour changes, when John the director suggests instead of Harry singing his part to the camera, he sings it to YN. The four other boys look at each other nervously, waiting for Louis's reaction, knowing he had a bit of a crush on the Brighton girl.

"But..I..I think the fans would prefer it..if Harry was singing into the camera..you know like he was singing to them" Louis tried to argue.

"Yeh I agree with Louis" Harry argued.

"No we've already decided" the director stated, before giving Harry and YN instructions to stand facing each other. Harry sent Louis an apologetic look, to which the Yorkshire boy gently smiled at him to let him know he didn't blame him.

"Okay..YN you're going to act a little shy..and Harry you're going to sing your part and lean closer to YN..to make it look a bit more intimate"

Despite feeling his stomach drop at the scene in front of him as Harry brought his face closer to YN's as he sang, Louis couldn't help but stare and wish that it was him instead.

"That's a wrap for today...thank you everyone"

As the band sat in the black van, travelling back to their hotel from the set. Louis and YN were sat in the back of the van, whilst the four others were spread out in front of them.

Startling him from his stare out of the window, YN turned to him "Hey..you okay?"

"Yeh..m'fine" Louis mumbled.

"Sure..you seem upset" YN asked with a worried look on her face.

Louis smiled, that's one thing he loved about YN, she always knew when he wasn't himself "Yeh m'okay love"

He noticed YN seemed nervous, hesitation in her voice "Do..would...do you wanna have another film night tonight?"

Louis tried to hide his smile, so in true Louis style he teased her instead "Is this your way of trying to cuddle me again?"

"Uh..um..uh"

"I'm jokin' love...I'd love to have another film night.." Louis smiled at YN, before adding "..and I wouldn't mind a cuddle"

Shocking Louis, she lifted his hand and wrapped it around her frame before laying her head just below his shoulder. Louis didn't realise he was smiling to himself until he glanced up and caught Harry's gaze and a smirk on his face. As Harry teased his best mate by making a heart shape with his fingers, Louis stuck up his middle finger mouthing 'piss off', before he rested his head on top of YN's.

Favorite thing about them All of him. Every last bit. I left this question for last because I had no idea what to say. He's my favorite character of anything ever. Picking just one favorite is impossible.

Least favorite thing about them Hmmmmm, maybe how smart he is? But mostly just because it's so difficult to write. Oh, I know! The fact that Marvel, in an effort to keep up with the economy, has made him a billionaire because I'm so tired of seeing the coldest takes on how being a fictional billionaire makes him the literal devil.

Favorite line MCU: "I am Iron Man" (the first time) I'll admit I wasn't sold on the idea of Iron Man when I originally saw it. I grew up on the Tim Burton Batman films and only watched the X-Men movies for the scenes with Rogue in them (baby Alle had a crush), so I thought I knew what superheroes were and I wasn't overly impressed with them. And then Tony stood there and took accountability for his actions and at the very young age of 12, I sat up and took notice. Comics: "Good morning, beloved" because he's just so blasé about the whole thing. Why are you calling him beloved, Tony, hmm? Answer me, Marvel. I demand answers.

brOTP Rhodey & Tony. Hands down. Best brOTP in the entire world. My favorite chaos duo. Super smart when they're apart, the biggest idiots in the entire world when they're together.

nOTP Any of the pairings that came out of CACW. Are there good ones out there? Yeah, absolutely. Are they overshadowed by the absurd amounts of bashing fics that were written just to dump on Steve whether or not he'd been romantically involved with Tony in that verse? Yeah, and I don't feel like scrolling through all of them just to locate the gems.

Random headcanon Tony learned how to play the piano from his mom. She had a grand that was kept at the mansion that moved with him to Malibu and then to the tower (he's beyond thankful at his past self for insisting on having it moved instead of leaving it in the Malibu house to sink into the ocean when it was destroyed).

Unpopular opinion My unpopular opinion about Tony for the greater MCU fandom (and non-fans) is that he's a good character who doesn't deserve all the hate he gets. For actual Tony fans? My unpopular opinion is that he has the same mentor/mentee relationship with Peter that he has with Harley and the only reason Peter's gets so much more emphasis in the fandom is because Peter had his own movie with Tony in it.

Watched the Barbie film. Then I watched that Lisa vs Malibu Stacy, as some online had said that it does the same job but better.

At their heart, these are two very different stories. Lisa vs Malibu Stacy is a deliberate and conscious story of feminism. Barbie is not.

Barbie is a story about self and reflection through media. Namely, the way that little girls see themselves and see others around them, such as boys or their mothers, eventually becoming mothers and how they see their daughters.

Not 'Barbie is a girl and I am a girl so I am Barbie', but rather Barbie as a space in which multiple conflicting ideas can coexist and be worked through and processed in a way they might never be outside of Barbie.

It's crucial that at the center of the film is a mother and daughter who cannot communicate with each other and only begin to communicate with each other once they start playing with dolls together. The doll is not simply the image of the self mirrored back to you, the doll is the self changed and distorted and amplified such that you yourself can change.

Lisa vs Malibu Stacy has nothing on this. We have some interesting mother daughter interactions but it's mostly focusing on Lisa's alienation. They never reconcile their difference and Lisa's feminism is never understood by her friends or family.

The one point though where these two works do come together, and where Lisa vs Malibu Stacy is the clear and undeniable winner, I think it has to be the use of mattel.

Both of them have the legacy of Barbie taking on new meaning in the lives of girls and so spinning out of the corporate control. Both of them have the corporate executives becoming aware of this and conspiring to crush the spirit of girls and sieze control of dolls and maintain their profit margins. Both of them are shown to be ineffectual for the sake of comedy, but then you have that crucial difference.

Barbie's mattel ultimately don't actually care about the corporation or the conspiracy. There's literally a line where the CEO says he 'didn't get into this business for the bottom line,' he 'did it for the little girls'. In the climax of the film, the corporate characters aren't even written to be consistent from this defanged narrow perspective. They just let Barbie do whatever she wants.

Whereas Malibu Stacy's mattel have a bit of floundering at first for the sake of comedy, but ultimately they are the bad guys of the story and can't just be handwaved away. Especially crucial that they win out in the end with a still ineffectual and daft strategy, but a strategy that works nonetheless precisely because of its use of consumerism. That the hype machine and advertising of any widely known brand or franchise is always going to stamp out any valid or good criticism in the end.

Truthfully I cried at both of these works. I cried a lot. But Lisa vs Malibu Stacy wins out in the end for me. Partly because of a more coherent feminist message but also partly just my own preferences.

Barbie ends on the big happy ending. Everyone gets what they want. And bizarrely mattel want Barbie to have what Barbie wants.

Lisa vs Malibu Stacy has the more human and flawed ending, which I am always going to prefer to a happy ending. Just my preference! That mattel are able to crush her feminist criticism of Malibu Stacy. But at the end of the episode we see that one solitary little girl buying the alternative doll. And Lisa saying maybe it was all worth it if we got through to her.

You know, Barbie almost has that! There's one bit where Barbie has a meltdown and the mother character, hold on, what are their names? I think Sasha is the daughter. Let me look this up.

Okay. Gloria and Sasha. Right, so Barbie is having a meltdown, and Gloria has decided to give up on her and just head back to the real world and let Barbieland be as it may. But her daughter Sasha then tells her no. You have to fight for girls. You have to at least try.

But then we get the happy ending, don't we? She tries to fight for girls, and it works! And everyone gets what they want. Contrast with Lisa vs Malibu Stacy where Lisa tries to fight for girls and is defeated. But there's those little victories along the way. That it's still worthwhile even if it doesn't work out. That girls and women are still worth fighting for even if you don't win.

I don't know. I always prefer those endings! I don't want to hear about people who got everything. That annoys me. LOL I want to hear about people who were left behind, people who didn't make it, but still kept on living anyway. That's what matters to me.

Quick comments on other obvious comparisons. Bart and Ken. Both can be said to represent insecure boys who cannot stand girls having just one little thing for themselves. Ken eventually works through his insecurities and overcomes adversity. Bart shrinks and transforms into a corncob.

I think the Bart storyline is a suitable blunt dismissal of a misogynistic thinking that a story about feminism/women and girls shouldn't need to address anyway.

But I also feel that the Ken storyline in Barbie works really well with the core concept of dolls as reflection of the self. Ken having the crisis of identity needs to be there as this is the girl working through her understanding of boys around her, perhaps even working through her own male self. I don't think the Ken storyline was as good as it could have been, but narratively I think it is important and that's what really matters here.

And then there's Ruth Handler and Stacy Lovell. I much much prefer Lisa vs Malibu Stacy actually involving Stacy Lovell in the feminist discourses and labours. Ruth Handler being a deus ex machina is just daft I feel. Having her be an actual woman who lives with misogyny in her life but still cares about inspiring little girls is I think much more interesting than having her be an immortal ghost haunting a corporation who in real life were horribly abusive towards her.

The comment about 'her story would have to be its own film', when the Simpsons just casually mixed that story in to a 20 minute tv episode.

But The Simpsons did have me researching Ruth Handler to find out if she was actually a treasonous communist if that was just a wild exaggeration.

As far as I can tell, Ruth Handler was not a communist, or at least not specifically collaborating with the Viet Cong. As far as I can tell, she was either innocent of tax evasion, or embroiled in tax evasion with others at mattel, and they turned her in to both protect themselves and also keep her feminist politics out of the company.

Again, the Barbie film goes some way to discussing that tension of feminist politics inside the company of mattel and the ways that capitalism will work to control and repress and assimilate that. But mostly it's subtext or just handwaved away with comedy. Whereas in The Simpsons it is very much front and center.

So that's my conclusion I think. Barbie has a lot more to say about girls and identity and relationships, but Lisa vs Malibu Stacy is the more coherent and honest feminist thesis.

So apparently the final shooting of NHIE s3 was in Malibu. To be more specifical, it seems that the last scene of season 3 was filmed in Malibu, which is a very special place to Devi since she spread her dad's ashes and then she kissed Ben at the end of season 1.

I've already read a lot of posts about the fact that this could possibly mean a scene where Ben and Devi could be finally endgame.

I just want to say something, as a huge fan of NHIE and as a Benvi shipper:

Of course, as a hopeless romantic I really wish this means something related to Ben and Devi and the possibility of them being finally endgame.

But after watching season 2 ...

I feel the need of getting my feet back on the ground, because Mindy Kaling and her writers' team are unpredictable.

So I think that it's better for our shipper's hearts not getting too excited at the possibility of Benvi being endgame simply because Mindy and her team likes a LOT turning tables.

At least this is what I'll do.

My relationship with this fandom changed a lot in the past months.

And mostly because my perception of the fandom itself and the series changed too.

I still love this show because it had such a strong impact to me: I loved the portraying of all these characters and the various relationships between them, they felt deeply real to me.

Obviously I'm not immune at the Ship Topic because I have my favourite one. But even though I am a Benvi Shipper I don't hate Daxton and the reasons are very simple.

I accept Paxton as Devi's teenage crush, especially because of the hotness topic: after all Devi's still a teenager so it's quite normal for a girl like her wanting to live the classic high school "Teenage Dream" with a hot and sweet boyfriend like Paxton.

I've always preferred Devi's relationship with Ben because to me it was more deep and meaningful. But I have to say... in the past months even my perception of them as a couple changed a lot.

They are a perfect match on paper but this isn't enough to make them the right person for each other, it doesn't mean they're made to be endgame.

Personally I think that they still need time to grow up individually, first of all things.

There are traits of Ben that I don't like for sure, and this made me think that maybe after all he's not the Right Guy for Devi at this very moment of her life.

Same thing for Ben, because there are traits of Devi which cannot make her the right person for him right now.

Devi needs to understand her value as an individual and especially she must figure out that she doesn't need to be involved in a romantic relationship in order to be okay with herself. But she needs a lot of time.

Even Ben needs to find his own dimension to grow individually and he also needs a lot of time.

But the thing is... if Ben really had deep romantic feelings for Devi, I hope these make him realize that he needs to come out from his dark corner and put his pride aside. During the final scene when he's watching Devi and Paxton dancing at the prom, his expression his deeply shocked and devastated. I hope he would finally get some courage from that moment to stand up for Devi. Only if she's really what he want, of course.

I also don't think that the final route for them is to be endgame at the end of the show.

Honestly, after all this time rewatching the episodes (and after seeing the poor treatment that Devi had from the fandom) what I really hope for the very final moment of the series is for Devi graduating and going to college ready to build her future.

We must simply accept the fact that maybe romantic endgame is not in the plan of Mindy Kaling or the other writers.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't be happy if Ben and Devi were endgame at the end of season 3: I would be very happy. But I wouldn't be upset if they weren't because they are not so right for each other.

“y/n...guess what?” your assistant asked on the other end of your phone

“What?” you were oblivious as to what she wants you to guess

“You’re going to be in another film with Sebastian and I have-”

“It’s ok Maggie, I know I was going to film with him sooner or later, I mean c’mon I’m a marvel character and he is too” you cut your assistant off.

“Ok, well I have to go” and you checked your watch to see you have been on this call for nearly an hour and said your goodbyes.

You decided you should go do your errands since it was nice weather in California and will most likely become hot sooner or later. You decided to go in a comfortable outfit, a big letterman jacket and some jeans paired with a simple white baby tee, as well as a big tote bag. You decided on getting a beverage to energize yourself and stopped at a small business-owned coffee shop, not expecting to meet a 6"0 man with blue eyes and dark hair.

“Hey, fancy meeting you here,” Sebastian says

“Yeah, indeed” you laugh awkwardly

“What are you doing?” he asks trying to start up a conversation

“I am running errands, but decided to get a drink first,” you told him your plan hoping he won’t want to join

“Need a partner?” he asks, he knows you don’t like saying no. Friends and family even call you a people pleaser for this very reason

“The more the merrier,” when you finished getting your drink you walked out with Sebastian close behind

“I forgot how fast you walked,” he said with a chuckle

“Well I hate slow walkers and I feel like if I, myself am a slow walker that would be hypocritical, don’t you think?” you rambled on

“I agree, so… what’s the deal? Are you going in a car?” he asks

“No, everything is close to each other, plus the weather is nice to just go on a walk, is that ok?” you silently hoped he wasn’t ok with it, but everything was crushed with three simple words

“No, I’m good,” he says with a small grin knowing you didn’t want him there

“Great, we shall move on,” you say gesturing for him to start walking and he started walking fast making you laugh at him and started to catch up.

“I heard your girlfriend's birthday was last week,” you tell him

“That’s true,”

“What did you guys do?” you ask not wanting to know if he did, the deed

“Well, we didn’t see each other since I had a busy day filming,” he says looking at you while he walks, it made you wonder why he celebrated your birthday when he had a busier schedule than he does now, but you just brushed it off.

“So what’s up with you, what's going on in your life,” he asks you

“Nothing much, got a call from my assistant saying I have to film a Marvel movie soon,” you say looking at the ground and how your shoes look when you take each step

“Oh, yeah if you-”

“Don’t you dare say you will back out” you cut him off with a stern look on your face while facing him and he chuckled at the sight

“What do you do on your days off,” he asks seeing if you’re living a better life than him

“I usually just drive around malibu with ice cream,” you say, you liked the breeze that the beach had.

“Whos sweater is that?” he completely discards your statement to see your oversized letterman jacket

“Mine,” you say in an obvious tone as if he should know

“I thought it was mine,” he says looking at you through your sunglasses

“Yeah because I totally still have your clothes, it’s a girls sweater Sebastian it will fit you awkwardly” you state but take it off handing it to him to see if it would truly, in fact, fit him when he puts it on, everything looks fine until you see the sleeves and how awkward they lay on his wrists, when he sees this he laughs at how you were right and he takes it off and hands it to you while you put it back on

“Do you still watch glee?” he asks you with a concerned face

“Sometimes, rarely, just when I’m in the mood,” you say, watching glee was your thing with him, but now since you both broke up, it was ruined

“I remember when you sang along in harmony, it was so annoying,” he says laughing loud which made you laugh and slap his arm playfully, which might have been a mistake feeling as though he might think you want something from him.

“Do you still watch it?” you ask completely changing the mood

“Yeah, sometimes,” he says with a weak smile

“With her” you interrogate

“Yeah, in fact, she bragged to her friends about how ‘unique’ I am,” he says in air quotes

“Well everyone is unique, just some are more fascinating than others” which made you think about how his girlfriend truly has bland taste if Sebastian was the first ‘unique’ person she dated.

“Did you tell her that we used to watch glee, or is that our little secret?” you say looking at his deep ocean eyes innocently

“She thinks it’s special and I would like to keep it that way,” he says

“But its all reused,” you say, finally arriving at a bookstore, you needed more books since you have finished reading all of yours

“I- why are we here” Sebastian is astonished

“I need more books...duh,” you say shaking your head

“But you have a whole room full in your house,” he says, you do have a library in your house

“I know, your point is?”

“You’re done reading them?” he is shocked

“Yeah…” you say furrowing your eyebrows

“I took her to that place, the one near the cliff,” Sebastian says leaning on a shelf trying to see what you would say.

“That was our place, I found it first,” you say knitting your eyebrows together as to why he would take her there, and especially why he was bringing it up now.

“Yeah, but I thought it would be fun,” he says trying to see what’s going on in your mind

“Did you get deja vu?” you ask

“Excuse me?”

“I mean if you took her there, do you get deja vu? hmm” that’s when Sebastian’s phone started to ring and he answered the call

“Hey y/n- I mean, oh umm, I had the day off and I couldn’t just get to you and then back over here, yeah I know I said I would make it up to you when I could wait, let me-” his girlfriend hung up on him

“You called her my name, big mistake, how could I blame you ’cause let's be honest, we kinda do sound the same,” you say innocently looking at the summary of the book you were now holding.

“What does she do for a living?” you asked since you have never heard her name before

“She is an actress” he states wanting to know why you asked

“Another actress, I hate to think I was just your type,” you say meeting his eyes and taking a sip from your beverage while Sebastian sucks the insides of his cheeks while nodding

“Have you sung her billy Joel yet?” you ask seeing if their relationship is all reused

“Um… yeah, she likes ‘Uptown Girl’ we sing it together“ following you around to the register so you can purchase the three books that are in your hand.

“Thank you,” you say the cashier, getting your books, putting them in your tote bag, and getting your receipt and change back.

“Now I bet you even tell her how you love her, In between the chorus and the verse,” you say walking out the store down to a crystal shop wanting some new crystals.

“How are your piano skills going?” you ask looking at some amethyst

“Going pretty good, I- I played her Billy Joel,” he says while picking up some rose quartz

“That’s good seems fun,” you say

“A different girl now, but there's nothing new,” he says while placing the pink crystal back down, meeting your confused eyes

“Not in front of the crystals,” you say grabbing his wrists and taking him outside

“Are you dating anyone?” he asks while searching for anything in your beautiful y/e/c eyes

“No, you cant do that Sebastian,” you say frustrated, his eyes were burning holes in your face and you started to walk away from the man who has broken your heart more than one too many times.

“Please, look I am sorry,” he says apologetically, he’s an amazing actor, he must be acting.

“I am not acting y/n," he says as if he read your mind "Please look at me,” he says grabbing your jaw so you can face him and you looked at the man dazed

“Look I’m really busy I have to go” you were ready to book it out of there, and that’s what you did down a nice neighborhood, it looked like the houses Disney channel would use for their shows. It was a game to you and you started to laugh and could hear Sebastian close behind laughing as well, he was faster than you maybe because he had longer legs than you or he was fit, but either way, he caught up to you and grabbed you by the waist carrying you in the air.

“Wow, it’s beautiful here,” you say taking in the scene in front of you when you were put back down, the last thing you remembered was the neighborhood, but this, this is completely different.

“It truly is,” he says looking down at you. The scene you were looking at had beautiful flowers all around with the trees surrounding and a beam of light coming down upon one golden flower statue.

“Why are you dating her?” you say looking at Sebastian after you somewhat finished admiring the seen

“I thought I liked her until I realized she’s just another you, the original is always better than the knock-off,” he says grabbing your hands and seeing all of your rings, one capturing his eye specifically, the promise ring he gave you on your anniversary. And when you realized what he was staring at, you let out a sigh and made your hands fall to your sides

“Why do you still wear it” he questions

“It’s a pretty ring,” you say bluntly

“I don’t think that’s the reason”

“Well believe it, Stan,”

“It can be a reason, but most people pawn it or give it back, I think you still like me” gently grabbing your face and making you face him

“Yeah right-” he cut you off with a passionate kiss wrapping his hands around your waist and your arms automatically meeting his neck to bring him down, meeting your height, it was a sensation you never knew you would feel again, but here you were, looking like a fool and having to put your errands off for another day.

"I love it when you act like you hate me," Sebastian says when he pulled away from the kiss to catch his breaths and going to meet your lips all over again for an even more passionate kiss.
