not to forget, I also had a video call with my another bestfriend, qira ♥ so thankful for these people, thank you for being the people who brings out the best in me, great great listener, awesome adviser, partner in crime - the best kind of people anyone would’ve asked for. always grateful for you three.
it was 19:10 when we landed in montreal, canada. we had to go through canada immigration check, and the overall process was really nerve-wracking. my parents were asked about how many cash they bought (bear in mind that we need to inform the officer if we bring 10,000 CAD to enter canada), how long they were going to stay, hotel booking confirmation, security check of drug-free, animal entrance-free, plants, guns, and everything that’s against the rules. meanwhile, i was also asked about the purpose of my study, length of study, program that i took, course, expectation of finishing studies.
soon after that, i had to go through waiting in Immigration Check 2 room which are designed for people who is staying in Canada for more than 6 months, that has been divided into 2: study permit and permanent residence. for my turn, i waited for 2 hours for my turn number to be called. the officer again, asked for an official letter from Canada Immigration Office that has been issued to me in Malaysia to be present upon arrival along with other supporting documents and also my university offer letter. however, i do bring additional supporting documents such as tuition fees payment receipts, a stack of paper stating proof of financial support, birth certificate with translation, my parents’ marriage certificate, proof of my rental house - deposit transfer, landlord’s information and the current tenant. but, the officer just asked for an additional proof of tuition fees payment! thank god, it took me only 5 mins to get that done and i can leave the airport already with a valid study permit!
we bought a three-day-pass for all public transport available in montreal. we stayed in Berri Uqam, visited Notre Dame, Old Port, Places De Arts, University of McGill, Islamic Center of Quebec - El Markaz Islami, and to grocery shopping underground, and a shopping mall near Berri Uqam (the center of all connection train, bus station to places outside montreal, and bus stop route to the airport)
we were lucky. the next morning, in 30Dec is montreal’s first snow fall. we experienced our first, yet montreal’s first snowfall, winter storm, snow shower, all snowing conditions that are ever there - for 2 days straight before we took off to our last destination. we didn’t visit much place as the snow is getting worse so we normally went out at 9am and went back at 3p.m. subuh here is at 6am, zohor at 12 p.m, asar at 2 p.m, maghrib 4p.m and isyak 6p.m.
the jetlag was real, seriously. we went back and forth forwarding and reversing times compared to Malaysia, London, Montreal and even PEI. all of these places differs in time as well as weather! it took me almost one week to get use to the proper time zone here in PEI.
