Buckingham Palace is pleased to share the invitation for the Coronation, which will be issued in due course to over 2,000 guests who will form the congregation in Westminster Abbey. It is also announced today that eight Pages of Honour have been chosen to attend Their Majesties during the Coronation Service.
The invitation for the Coronation has been designed by Andrew Jamieson, a heraldic artist and manuscript illuminator whose work is inspired by the chivalric themes of Arthurian legend. Mr Jamieson is a Brother of the Art Workers’ Guild, of which The King is an Honorary Member.
The original artwork for the invitation was hand-painted in watercolour and gouache, and the design will be reproduced and printed on recycled card, with gold foil detailing. Central to the design is the motif of the Green Man, an ancient figure from British folklore, symbolic of spring and rebirth, to celebrate the new reign. The shape of the Green Man, crowned in natural foliage, is formed of leaves of oak, ivy and hawthorn, and the emblematic flowers of the United Kingdom.
The British wildflower meadow bordering the invitation features lily of the valley, cornflowers, wild strawberries, dog roses, bluebells, and a sprig of rosemary for remembrance, together with wildlife including a bee, a butterfly, a ladybird, a wren and a robin. Flowers appear in groupings of three, signifying The King becoming the third monarch of his name.
A lion, a unicorn and a boar – taken from the coats of arms of the Monarch and Her Majesty’s father, Major Bruce Shand – can be seen amongst the flowers. Her Majesty’s arms are now enclosed by the Garter, following her installation as a Royal Lady of the Order of the Garter last summer.

Queen Camilla was born Camilla Shand, daughter of army officer turned business man Major Bruce Shand and The Honorable Rosalind Cubitt, daughter of the 3rd Baron Aschombe. While not aristocratic herself, she came from a family with aristocratic links and had an idyllic childhood with her two siblings. She was described as being a boisterous tomboy, but was also a voracious reader who was fond of painting and gardening.
By the time she hit her teens she was well known on the London social circuit. She was confident and charismatic, and known to love a good party. She was even allegedly let go from a secretarial role after coming in late following a dance!

Arms of Queen Camilla
I am putting this up as someone asked in the comments for the symbolism of the shields on the coronation invitation.
from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camilla,_Queen_Consort#/media/File:Coat_of_arms_of_Camilla_Shand,_Queen_consort.svg, image by sodacam
and
https://https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camilla,_Queen_Consort#Titles,_styles,_honours_and_arms
This coat of arms combines the coat of arms of her husband, King Charles III (on the left) and the coat of arms of her father, Major Bruce Shand, on the right. This practise is called impaling and it is a common way of combining two coats of arms.
The Supporters (the animals on either side of the shield) are a gold lion wearing a crown on the left, for England, and a blue boar on the right, taken from the crest of her father's coat of arms. The blue boar has a crown around its neck and a chain, similar to the Unicorn in the same position on the coat of arms of the British monarch.
The Crest (the bit on top) is a Tudor crown, the crown chosen by King Charles III as part of his cypher.
The Garter (the blue band) surrounds the shield as Queen Camilla is a Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. On the blue band is written the motto of the Order of the Garter, Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense, meaning "Shame of him who thinks evil of it".
The Coat of Arms itself has two parts:
Left hand Side: The arms of King Charles III, her husband
Right Hand Side: The arms of her father, Major Bruce Shand (see below, under the cut).
In heraldry terms, the coat of arms is described as below:
Escutcheon Quarterly, I and IV Gules, three lions passant guardant in pale Or langued and armed Azure. II Or a lion rampant Gules armed and langued Azure within a double tressure flory-counter-flory Gules. III Azure a harp Or stringed Argent; impaled with a shield of Azure a Boar's Head erased behind the ears Argent armed and langued Or on a Chief engrailed Argent between two Mullets Gules a Cross crosslet fitchy Sable.
Supporters Dexter: a lion rampant guardant Or langued and armed Gules, royally crowned Proper; sinister: a Boar Azure armed and unguled Or langued Gules and gorged with a Coronet composed of crosses formy and fleurs-de-lys attached thereto a Chain reflexed over the back and ending in a ring all Or.
The Coat of Arms appears on the Coronation Invitation as per below:
Coat of Arms of Major Bruce Shand
This is the coat of arms of Major Bruce Shand, awarded to him by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2005:
The Crest (the bit on top) is a blue boar with red feet, with one foot resting on a red star.
The Shield (the coat of arms itself) appears to be the same as that of the Shand family with the sole exception of a black sword on the top of the shield, between two red stars, whereas the Shand family has three red stars along the top of the shield. The black sword is specific to Major Bruce Shand.

Stunning engagement rings inspired by royalty
It is believed that the first bejewelled engagement ring was presented by Archduke Maximilian of Austria to his future bride in 1477. Engagement rings only truly became popular, however, in the early 1800s, helped along by Prince Albert designing and giving Queen Victoria a gold ring featuring diamonds, rubies and an emerald, styled in the form of a serpent – a symbol of wisdom and commitment. Since then, the design choice of regal engagement rings have reverberated into contemporary pieces available today, with brides adorning their vena amoris with inspiration taken from these original royal influencers. Read on for Tatler’s pick of the most glittering rings fit for a royal.
Queen Elizabeth II – Diamond Solitaire
In July 1947, the late Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark presented the future Queen Elizabeth II with a ring by Philip Antrobus. The Prince helped to design the ring using diamonds that originated in a tiara belonging to his mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. The ring features a three carat central white diamond solitaire with five small diamonds mounted each side set in platinum. The style of a central diamond solitaire still accounts for 85 per cent of engagement ring choices today.
Empress Josephine and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark – Toi et Moi
The romantic setting of the Toi et Moi style of ring features two stones set in opposite directions. In 1796 Napoleon Bonaparte presented his bride-to-be, Josephine, with an engagement ring featuring two pear-shaped stones, a blue sapphire and a white diamond set in gold. In later years, Empress Josephine’s ring was passed through the generations until being sold at auction to a private buyer in 2013 – fetching nearly a million pounds, 50 times the estimated price. In 1966, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, an eighth generation descendent of Empress Josephine and third cousin to Queen Elizabeth II, was presented with a slightly larger version featuring six carat twinned cushion cut diamonds designed by Van Cleef and Arpels.
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands – East/West setting
Despite some controversy surrounding Maxima being the daughter of a senior ranking officer of the Argentinian Videla dictatorship, she and Prince Willem-Alexander became engaged in 2001 with a ring featuring a rare orange diamond – a fitting tribute to the House of Orange-Nassau – the reigning house of the Netherlands. The East/West set diamond is flanked by two white diamonds and two diamond pave bands. Similarly, twice engaged Princess Madeleine of Sweden firstly wore an emerald cut diamond solitaire in an East/West setting with a pavé band.
Princess Alexandra and Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece – Cabochon
Already having a well established association with royalty, the cabochon has seen a recent revival in popularity. The Imperial State Crown itself hosts a red cabochon spinel known as the Black Prince’s Ruby, believed to have been worn in the helmet of King Henry V at the Battle of Agincourt. Royal bridesmaid and first cousin to Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Alexandra was proposed to in 1962 by Sir Angus Ogilvy with a giant cabochon sapphire set in a yellow gold band flanked by a diamond on either side. In 1995 Marie-Chantal Miller became engaged to Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece, son of King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie, with a ring featuring a cabochon cut blue sapphire, a family heirloom, with a heart shaped diamond set to one side.
Wallis Simpson – Emeralds
After a 325-day reign, King Edward VIII abdicated, declaring, ‘I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility and to discharge my duties as King as I would wish to do without the help and support of the woman I love’ – and by so doing became the Duke of Windsor, free to marry Wallis Simpson, a twice-divorced American socialite, which he did six months later in June 1937. Wallis had a whopping 19 carat emerald engagement ring set by Cartier, inscribed with the words, ‘We are ours now 27 x 36,’ widely believed to represent the day and year of his proposal. In 1958, to celebrate their 20th anniversary, the Duchess returned the ring to Cartier, asking for it to be brought up to date with a more elaborate gold setting. To this day it remains one of the more expensive and unusual royal engagement rings with a purchase price equating to £700,000 today.
The Duchess of Cornwall – Art Deco
In 2005 Clarence House announced the engagement of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles, eldest child of Major Bruce Shand and his wife Rosalind Cubitt, the daughter of Roland Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe. As an engagement ring, Charles presented Camilla with a family heirloom, believed to have come from the Queen Mother’s collection, an Art Deco style ring featuring a five carat emerald cut diamond at its centre with additional diamond baguettes on each side. The marriage was to have been on 8 April 2005, but was delayed by one day to allow the Prince of Wales and some of the invited dignitaries to attend the funeral of Pope John Paul II.

Queen Camilla’s Patronages
The Desert Rats Association (Patron from 27.07.2007)
The 7th Armoured Division was a British armoured division which saw service during the Second World War where its exploits made it famous as the Desert Rats.
After the Munich Crisis, the division was formed in Egypt during 1938 as the Mobile Division (Egypt) and its first divisional commander was the acclaimed tank theorist Major-General Sir Percy Hobart. During January 1940, the name of the unit was changed to the 7th Armoured Division. It was during this period that the nickname “Desert Rats” was coined. The division fought in every major battle during the North African Campaign; later it would land and fight in Italy before being withdrawn to the United Kingdom where it prepared to fight in North West Europe. It began landing in Normandy during the afternoon of 6 June and fought its way across Europe ending the war in Kiel and Hamburg, Germany. The 7th Armoured Brigade was detached from the division during early 1942 and fought the Japanese during the fighting in Burma before it returned to the Mediterranean Theatre and fought in Italy.
“As the proud daughter of a 12th Lancer, Major Bruce Shand, who fought with the regiment in France and North Africa alongside the Desert Rats and was awarded the Military Cross in both campaigns, I grew up with the history and traditions of the 12th and subsequently the 9th/12th Lancers and have always felt a deep affinity to the regiment, which is hardly surprising as you are, after all, the ‘Prince of Wales’s own’. I know that wherever my (papa) is tonight he will be drinking a toast to the 9th/12th Royal Lancers, a regiment in which he was so proud to have served. I feel very proud of my connection to this regimental family, and it is with enormous pride that I put on my 9/12th Lancers brooch, which I intend to wear for many years to come.” - Queen Camilla

Born Camilla Shand in 1947 to Major Bruce Shand a retired British Army officer, later a wine merchant and Rosalind Cubitt, daughter of the 3rd Baron of Ashcombe
Alice Keppel, mistress of King Edward VII, the great-great-grandfather of Prince Charles, is the great-grandmother of Camilla.
She originally met Charles in 1970.
Before joining the Royal Family she was a secretary and decorator
She was married to Andrew Parker-Bowles from 1973 – 1995. They had 2 children, Tom, who is a food writer, and a daughter named Laura, an art curator. She also has five grandchildren. One of her grandchildren, Elizabeth Lopes, was a bridesmaid at the wedding of William and Kate.
Andrew Parker Bowles, dated Prince Charles’ sister, Princess Anne, in the early 1970 and has remained one of Anne’s closest friends.
Camilla’s ring is a platinum-set, emerald-cut diamond ring that previously belonged to the Queen Mother.
As Princess Diana is closely associated with ‘The Princess of Wales’ Camilla has chosen not to use that title. However, her full title is as follows: Her Royal Highness The Princess Charles Philip Arthur George, Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Chester, Countess of Carrick, Baroness of Renfrew, Lady of the Isles, Princess of Scotland, Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
An avid hunter and rider. Camilla is an oil painter unlike her husband Charles who prefers watercolour. She also likes watching television, reading, fishing, walking in the countryside and gardening, another trait she shares with her husband.
Her favourite television show is The Killing. When she visited the set during a tour of Scandinavia, she seemed star struck by the actors.
Like her husband, the Duchess is a patron of the arts as well as many other charities.
Camilla is passionate about animal welfare. She has two “rescue dogs”. She adopted Beth, a Jack Russell in 2011, and Bluebell, also a Jack Russell, a year later from South London’s famous Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where she is a frequent visitor.
