Day two of the Mock Records "blowout" posts. Mock Records (Los Angeles, California) is having the rare 50% salde (code: blowout). I think I spent $40 and got 4 different releases. Outstanding.

Today is a twofer of sorts. 1st we are posting about Kaz Mirblouk's most recent LP "Careless by Contrast". Mirblouk went to UC Davis, worked at KDVS and is a member of Hooveriii. His music tends more and more to psych rock although songs like "Fracture" have a post-punk feel. And while my favorite release of his is still his 7" on Six Tonnes de Chair, there is a lot to like here and it grooves (makes one wonder if he contributed to the excellent Groop LP also on Mock).

2nd, Mirblouk is performing at the Davis Music Fest (June 16-18). He'll be performing at the Oddfellows Hall on Saturday, June 17th at 9:15 p.m. Other bands: French Cassettes, Maita, Bug Bath, and so many more.

“Zorrino! You’re a prince now?”

“Well, I guess I will be once Maita and I are married! What about you, amigo Tintin?”

“I uh, got fired by my newspaper.”

I always wondered what the hell happened to Zorrino, they just let him stay in a hidden community they barely interacted with? Does he have any family outside? Any friends? Colleagues? He sells oranges, he must know some people. Will he ever be allowed to go outside ever again? Not to mention how much he’d have to adjust to. In the 1969 Belevision animated adaptation they gave Zorrino a love interest (Princess Maita) which partially explains his decision to stay in the Inca city.

I can’t help but feel his original community would notice him being missing too, like two white guys with firearms show up and return from the forest without him. yeah prisoners of the sun was pretty whack

Today's character is Rui Maita! Rui is an enthusiastic, quirky, and upbeat former English teacher who hopes to captivate the whole world as an idol. He is passionate about his job and often mixes English words into his speech. He likes to do fun things and get others involved too.

FUN FACT: According to one of his MobaM cards, Rui's hair seems to be dyed blond.

rui! i enjoyed drawing him for sure. maybe i should have included more words, i thought it was cute to have all sem members with something that represented their subjects. i can't believe we have a few units completed now!
