IT'S NOT THRILLING LET ME OUT (<- thrilled)#having One Main Character diminishes some of the stress of a death game but also allows for greater endearment (avoiding what im gonna call#the saw problem) but it's so emotionally intense for him and us that what happens to the others IS of great importance to us#what he experieneces deeply affects him going forward and sticks with him so it doesn't feel like useless tragedy#and his kindness and desperation making him get Right Up To The Line Of Killing but never quite crossing it (thus far) feels so much more#real than other characters' to me. and there's more initial understanding/endearment for the side characters bc we understand thru kaiji an#real life how these ppl have been manipulated and exploited. we know their fear and desperation intimately#which makes it hard to hate anyone even when they do cross lines kaiji wouldn't. desperation is dehumanizing!!!#they do not have the luxury of being morally clean and that's real as fuck!!!!#there's a lot more going on here but it's so sick i can't believe it's taken me years to watch it gAUGHHHHH#it's so deeply human to me and i've been Actually Yelling In My Home about it all day#fkmt#(<- this appears to be the tag of choice o7)

Just watched Last Night in Soho and I adored it and do recommend watching it but the main character was so lesbian coded that to me the biggest plot twist in that movie was that none of those sapphic Chekhov's guns (Sappho's buns, if you will) paid off?
Was I really supposed to read a country girl that just moved to a big city and on her first night out stops to stare in awe at the door of a striptease with GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS written in neon pink letters as straight? A girl that dreams of becoming a fashion designer but when she goes to sleep gets to witness the life of another girl in the 60s, and becomes so enchanted with her beauty and charisma she not only makes her her muse (it was Anya Taylor-Joy so who can blame her) but also dyes her hair and starts dressing like her as straight?? A girl who flees a party in the verge of a nervous breakdown, looks in distress at the several straight couples making out near her and then proceeds to scream at the friendly boy that's been coded throughout the movie as her potential love interest how she wishes she could be like everyone else, just before she kisses him in what reads as a desperate hail mary, as fucking straight???
