My first thought was Emerald because emeralds are my birthstone and I had a gem oc one before show emerald was revealed but Nephrite suits Maidel so much better. Three cheers for Rory.

Oh shoot. Considering how Callan complained about being disoriented, you should’ve warned Gerrel better. You dummy!

You quickly walk over to him, concerned as he bumps into a tree. At least he doesn’t hit a branch or anything, though a few birds do fly off the tree’s limbs in alarm.

“Are you okay, Gerrel?” You say, looking the maroon up and down with concern. “Sorry. I’ve been doing this so long I forget what it’s like for other people sometimes. But we’re here!”

You beam and gesture around at the trail, thick with vibrant greenery and underbrush, and now that the birds have gotten used to your arrival their calls are starting up again.

“There’s a lot of unusual species in this area - some are bioluminescent, others have antennae or multiple eyes, stuff like that! We have to walk to get deeper into their area if we want to see them but I also brought feed and camouflage for us to wear! Oh, and food for us for later too!”

Everything you prepared is healthy. Well. You did bring dessert, but Gerrel of course doesn’t have to take any if he doesn’t want to, and it’s fruit-based anyway.

Maidel loves her lusus! Just…don’t ask her why her mom failed to protect her from her possessed ex best friend, the clowns in the circus, her shitty ancestor…you get the picture.

Pangolin-sheep mom loves her kid, and Maidel genuinely does adore her back, but he does somewhat resent her for the fact that nothing ever seems to break through her placid, non-confrontational nature, even when he’s in trouble.

He acknowledges there’s only so much a fluffy, slow-moving tank can do, even if she does have big claws, but he still wishes she’d tried a little harder.

Luckily, his boss Faerin is also something of a parental figure to him, though he has confused feelings about that and wouldn’t admit it out loud since it’s weird to him that he feels that way.

Thinkin abt nicknames

Lusien is almost exclusively known as Lucy OOC but no one has ever called him that IC. The only way I could see that nickname becoming canon is if Ani’s crew started calling him that while he was sailing with them (which I’ll probs write a lil something abt him coming back to Vernrot at some point)

Similarly no one calls Mikiel Miki in canon because he hates nicknames and will correct/fight you on it. Glas calls him The Shorter And Angrier Mikail when he’s not in earshot tho LMAO they probs said it around him once but learned very quickly that Miki isn’t fun to antagonise, which is why they don’t tend to hang around him

Other nicknames that I use for my characters that don’t get used in canon: Nan (Nancor), Ei (Eichio), Zot (Zotick, Mauban calls him Zotti), Ana (Ananta), Ari (Ariete), Vil (Viltau, Kitaer and only Kitaer can call him Vivi), Val (Vallis), Bel (Belamy)

Callan doesn’t get shortened to Cal because I already nickname Kalpan Kal, and my nicknames are a first come first served basis. Amarys called him Green Bean when they were younger because she forgot his name lmao

Dismas calls everyone by their last name, with Maidel being the sole exception. She probably did get called Juzuxt a couple times after they first met as Dismas’ I Know More Than You Think Power Move, but at some point he went back to her first name probs without noticing. It’s easier to say and also lowkey a sign of Actual Affection, not even Aislin, Daimon or Fukkau get first name privilege and they’ve known him much longer

This isn't the address you were looking for. Or if it is, it's uh, slightly abandoned. The hive looks like it's been decaying in the forest for sweeps given the plants sprouting in the half-caved in rubble, and you highly doubt anyone is there.

If they were, you'd honestly be kind of concerned.

Given this is a forest, and given that things that eat trolls often live in forests, you should probably just teleport away again, but on the other hand...

On the other hand, Faerin did tell you there was supposed to be a rare book seller around here, and you don't want to tell her you didn't do your best. Your boss - and psiionic mentor - is really nice, and you hate to let her down.

So, eyes and floppy ears alert for danger, you start searching near the hive for any traces of troll life, trying not to jump when you hear any weird noises. Sure, you've been in forests before, but it's been a while, and that doesn't make you any less wary.

"Well, no, but I'll admit I didn't investigate that hard...it's not like I want to see them again. And they're dead, and forced to wander the planet, so...how much trouble can they really cause? I haven't felt any other disturbances since. Maybe it was my imagination."
