₊˚⊹♡ rin itoshi x f!reader " FRAMED RIVALRY " CHAPTER 001
in which your academic rival, aka the captain of the soccer team, sneaks his way into the photography club with you. ꨄ︎ CHAPTER 001
cw: swearing (a lot) , rin definitely needs therapy wc : 3k
Tumblr media
the sun shines down on the soccer field, casting shadows across the grass. you adjust the lens on your camera, the clicking of the shutter becoming a steady rhythm in the background as you move, trying your best to capture the intensity of the game. your fingers are quick and precise as you focus on each shot, freezing the action in time. the soccer players, all in their matching uniforms, run with a kind of urgency, their feet pounding the ground with every stride.
you’ve been a part of the photography club for two years now but no matter how often you’re on the sidelines of these games, there’s always something inspiring about watching the players. you find yourself naturally drawn to the skill, the precision of it all—except for one player.
rin itoshi, the captain of the soccer team, moves differently. the aura he gives off on the field is magnetic, but in a way that makes you feel like you’re standing on the edge of something dangerous. he’s tall, lean, his movements calculated. his sharp, teal eyes never seem to leave the ball, and his hair falls just enough to obscure part of his vision—but somehow, it only enhances his intensity.
you didn't like him. it seemed as if nobody actually liked rin itoshi. people just pretended to like him because he’s “cool”. he’s a rude, egotistical snob who thought he was better than everyone. you didn't pay him any mind in the halls, or when he would roll his eyes when you got a question right, though. there are a lot of rude people in the world, and your motto was “just smile and nod.”
you snap a picture of him, the ball seemingly suspended in midair as he prepares to strike. just as you click the shutter, a player from the opposing team rushes past you, and you stumble, your foot catching on the uneven turf. ouch.
the next thing you know, you’re colliding into someone—a solid body, a slight grunt, and then the unmistakable feeling of being pinned against the grass. your camera, thank goodness, is still in your hands, though you can feel the strap digging into your wrist from the awkward angle.
“sorry! i didn’t mean—”
but the person you’ve collided with doesn’t respond. you glance up quickly, your heart sinking as you realize who it is: rin itoshi. his teal eyes don’t even flicker toward you. instead, he simply pushes past you with a scoff, his sharp features barely shifting as he continues his stride across the field, his focus entirely on the game.
you’re left standing there like an idiot, with nothing but the faint echo of your own voice hanging in the air. you’ve been so used to getting nods, polite acknowledgments even from strangers, yet, for rin, you might as well not have existed at all. and that pissed you off.
you try to shake off the embarrassment, but it sticks with you like a bitter taste in your mouth. maybe it’s because you’ve never been completely ignored before. maybe it’s because you’ve heard the rumors about him—how he’s cold, distant, and borderline unapproachable. and now you understood how those statements came to be. still, it doesn’t help that he’s the kind of person who has no time for anyone unless they’re on his level—or so it seems.
the next morning, you arrive at school, the early bell ringing through the hallways. you’ve almost forgotten about the incident, tucked it away in the back of your mind where it doesn’t sting quite so much. but then the announcements come, calling for all students to gather in the classroom for a project assignment.
you’re a second year now, and the pressure of being in the student government and managing your club is always there, a subtle weight on your shoulders. so when the teacher announces the project topic, your focus sharpens.
debate. the topic? “do leaders need to be emotionally detached to succeed?” it’s a complex one, but it’s right up your alley. you’ve always been interested in leadership, in the psychology behind decision-making. but then the next part hits you: “for this project, you’ll each be paired with someone and will have a debate against another group.”
you glance around the room, already sizing up your potential partners. it’s all in good fun—until the teacher reads the names. and then your heart sinks.
“y/n, you’ll be paired with rin itoshi.”
you swallow thickly, the name ringing in your ears like an unwanted echo. rin itoshi? the same rin who so rudely ignored you yesterday?
your mind starts to race. the two of you could not be more different in your approach to leadership. you’ve always believed in understanding others, being empathetic and connected. rin, on the other hand, leads through sheer control, his focus on the end result rather than the people involved. emotionally detached? he practically embodies it. but could you find common ground on this topic?
the tension between you isn’t just academic—it’s personal. you’ve heard rumors about his cold nature, his obsession with soccer, and his overwhelming pride. he doesn’t care about anyone unless they can help him with his goals. and now, here you are, forced into a partnership with him for the most important debate of the semester.
the teacher hands out the project guidelines, and you find yourself sitting next to rin. his presence next to you feels almost suffocating. he doesn’t look at you as you sit down, his expression unreadable. his posture is straight, his focus already on the project—though whether that focus is on you or the assignment is unclear.
this is going to be a long few weeks.
the days that follow the project announcement feel strangely heavier, as though the universe has decided to test your patience. you and rin Itoshi are thrust into a partnership that feels more like a battlefield than a collaboration.
the first meeting, if it could even be called that, happens during lunch. you find him sitting at one of the tables in the library, already with a notebook open, pen poised in hand. he doesn’t look up when you approach, not even when you slide into the chair across from him.
as the nice person you were, you went out of your way to stop at the nearest cafe outside of the place you had agreed to meet up. you ordered two iced americanos and buttered croissants. it wasnt pleasant working on an empty stomach. you got comfortable in your seat before speaking.
“i brought you some co-”
“i don't drink that.” he interrupted with the roll of his eyes, pushing the coffee away from him and back in your direction. your jaw nearly dropped to the floor. okay, maybe you shouldn't have assumed that he liked americanos, or coffee in general, but he could have definitely been more polite about it.
“okay, im so-”
“let’s get this over with.” he interrupted once more, reaching over to grab a ballpoint pen from his bag. you sighed, your eye twitching as you tried not to go off on this guy. it wasn’t worth it.
“so, how do you want to tackle this? should we split the research, or—”
he interrupts you with a single, clipped sentence, barely a glance in your direction. “i’ll take care of the facts. you handle the emotional arguments.” could he stop cutting you off?
your brow furrows at the dismissal. first he continuously cuts you off, and he isn’t asking for your input, isn’t interested in collaborating in any meaningful way. you can already tell that this will be one of those “i do everything, and you just follow along” situations. but you’ve dealt with arrogant people before. and you’re not the type to back down easily.
“i’m not just here to fill in the emotional side,” you say, trying to keep your voice steady. “we’re supposed to argue the same side, remember? that means we both need to agree on a stance. i don’t know if you’ve noticed, but you and i have very different ideas about what leadership even is.”
rin’s eyes flicker up at last, his teal gaze meeting yours for the first time in days. there’s a sharpness there, a challenge, but it’s not enough to throw you off balance. not yet.
“you’re overcomplicating this,” rin says flatly, his voice cold as ever. “leadership doesn’t need feelings. It needs results. leaders who rely on emotions are weak.” his words cut through the air, the arrogance thick in them. “so shut the hell up. i’ll prove that whats right in the debate. you just need to back me up.”
there it is—the familiar arrogance that laces every word he speaks. you resist the urge to roll your eyes. he’s treating this as if it’s a one-man show, like your opinion doesn’t matter at all.
“i think you’re missing the point,” you reply, trying to keep your composure. “you can’t discount emotions entirely. understanding them is what makes a good leader. you’ll never connect with the people you lead if you don’t even try to understand them.”
rin narrows his eyes at you, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. It’s like he’s testing you, trying to provoke some kind of reaction. “are you trying to tell me that a leader should let their emotions cloud their judgment?”
“are you a fucking idiot? no, i’m saying a leader should be aware of their emotions and how they affect others. you can’t just bulldoze over everyone and expect them to follow you.”
there’s a beat of silence, and for a moment, you think he might actually engage with you—maybe even acknowledge your point. but instead, he leans back in his chair, the smirk still lingering on his face.
“fine,” he says, almost bored. “prove it, then. if you think emotions matter so much, show me how they’ll get the results we need.” his voice is a little quieter now, but the challenge is unmistakable. “but don’t waste my fucking time.”
the air between you two is thick with tension, an unspoken understanding passing between you. this won’t be easy. and it certainly won’t be fun. but for some reason, you can’t bring yourself to back down. something about the way he challenges you—pushes you to be better, even in this strange, antagonistic way—lights a fire inside of you.
“fine,” you say, your voice steady. “i’ll prove it. but don’t think for a second that i’ll just let you steamroll me into agreeing with you.”
rin shrugs, as though he couldn’t care less about your resolve. “we’ll see.”
you both return to your work, each of you diving into your research. but the tension between you doesn’t fade. it simmers, thick and heavy, like something waiting to boil over.
the next few days blur together, the steady rhythm of research and debate preparation keeping you both busy. despite the friction between you, you can’t deny that there’s something undeniably effective about working with rin. his sharp focus on results, his ability to cut through distractions—it’s almost admirable. but it’s also maddening, because you know he’s only interested in his own perspective. and you’re stuck trying to make him see yours.
you’ve made some progress in gathering emotional case studies, examples of leaders who were able to harness their emotions to drive their teams to success. it’s compelling material, but every time you bring it up, rin shoots it down. “that’s all sentimental crap,” he’d say. “it doesn’t matter if they felt something. what matters is what they achieved.”
it’s frustrating. but you can’t give up.
finally, the day of the debate arrives. you walk into the classroom, the desks now arranged to represent a court room, nerves buzzing in your stomach. you’ve never been one to back down from a challenge, but the thought of standing side by side with rin—who is so self-assured, so completely confident in his ability to win—makes the pit in your stomach tighten.
when rin walks in, he’s his usual self—cold, distant, but somehow commanding. his eyes sweep the room briefly, and then he makes his way to his desk, taking his seat without a word. you don’t even exchange pleasantries.
the debate begins, and the first few minutes pass in a blur of facts and figures. rin speaks with the kind of authority that only someone like him could wield. but you’ve prepared just as well. you know your material, and you’re determined to make your points count.
as the debate progresses, the audience grows increasingly engaged. your argument is strong, but rin’s is relentless. his words are sharp, calculated. it’s clear that he’s trying to wear you down, to undermine your confidence as if you’re the one he's debating against. and the tension between you grows thicker with every word spoken.
the days slip by, and you and rin seem to be locked in a battle of wits, neither of you willing to give an inch. despite the constant friction, a strange kind of understanding is starting to form between you. it’s not friendship—not by any stretch—but there’s an undeniable force that pulls you together, even if it’s mostly out of mutual stubbornness.
and then, without warning, something happens that catches you completely off guard.
it’s a wednesday afternoon when you first notice him.
you’re at the photography club meeting, organizing the week’s shoot plans and sorting through the photos from the last session. the room is small and cozy, filled with the soft hum of conversation and the clicking of camera shutters. it’s your safe haven—your space to let your creativity flow without anyone judging you. as well as the place where you and your two best friends crack up a storm almost 24/7. at least it used to be.
you glance up from your camera, surprised to see rin itoshi standing in the doorway, arms crossed, his gaze sharp as always. he surveys the room, a slight frown tugging at the corners of his lips, before his eyes finally settle on you. his usual smirk is nowhere to be found, but there’s something just as dangerous in the way he looks at you.
“what are you doing here?” you ask, your tone a mixture of surprise and suspicion. “this is the photography club, not whatever you're thinking it is."
rin doesn’t respond immediately. instead, he steps into the room, a hand on your shoulder as he moved you to the side with the same quiet confidence he always carries. “i’m here to join,” he says simply, his arm dropping to his side, his voice flat but laced with something you can’t quite place.
your brow furrows in disbelief. “join? why would you want to join the photography club?”
he shrugs nonchalantly, though his eyes never leave yours. “maybe i just like photography.”
“‘maybe i just like photography’ my ass,” you thought. you stare at him, trying to gauge whether he’s serious. the arrogance that typically surrounds rin’s every move is still there, but this time, it’s tempered with something else—a kind of unreadable intent. you want to scoff, to call him out on the fact that you both know he’s only here to stir up trouble, but something about his response keeps you from doing so.
“right,” you mutter, clearly unconvinced. “well, this isn’t a competition. if you’re here to just… mess around, fuck off.”
rin doesn’t even blink at your words. instead, he steps further into the room as if he owns the place and grabs the nearest camera, inspecting it with the kind of precision that makes it clear he knows what he’s doing. there’s no hesitation in his movements, as if he’s done this a hundred times before. his gaze flicks over the camera, his fingers adjusting the lens as if it’s second nature.
the other club members watch with a mix of curiosity and confusion. rin Itoshi, captain of the soccer team and the most notorious loner in school, is standing in your domain, looking every bit the part of someone who belongs.
“i’ll take a few shots,” rin announces, his voice almost bored. “see what i can do with this.”
you stand there, speechless, watching as he lifts the camera and starts taking pictures of the club members. each shot is precise, deliberate. there’s no denying it—he’s good, great, even. he doesn’t just like photography; he’s skilled, his confidence in handling the camera evident.
still, you can’t shake the feeling that this is a game to him. that he’s here to prove something, even if he’s not admitting it. you feel your irritation flare up again, and you can’t help but retort, “you’re not just here because you like photography. you just want to outdo everyone, like you always do.” ‘you stuck up piece of shit,’ you wanted to add, but you didn't.
rin glances over at you, that same unreadable expression on his face. he’s still holding the camera, his eyes flickering with something almost imperceptible. “no need to make everything a competition,” he replies coolly, his voice lacking the usual bite, but the edge is still there. those words sounded funny coming from his mouth. “i told you, i just like photography. where’s the.. leader? or whatever.”
“you’re looking right at her.” you said, placing your hand on your hip. he gave you a scoff and an unconvinced look.
“got a problem?”
“i do not.”
you narrow your eyes at him, but you don’t press further. he’s not giving you anything to work with, and you know he’s not going to back down or admit anything.
“fine,” you say, the frustration bubbling in your chest. “but if you want to join, you better pull your weight. this club isn’t just for show, soccer boy.”
rin simply shrugs. “we’ll see, camera girl.” he says, turning his attention back to the camera. and just like that, it’s as if nothing has changed—except now, rin itoshi, the most competitive person you know, is in your club. and he’s not here for the reasons he claims.

Hi Jelly, can I request a Levi x Physical Therapist reader? Please I've been dying someone to write to this😭 it's always been "other medical worker x levi". I'm a Physical Therapy student, so if u make this it would make my day so much😭🫶.

(It's ok to refuse it^^)
Hello, funny enough I've done this sort of concept before. I did one where the physio was in the ocean with Levi and it was post war! Also, had physio myself, but thank you for explaining for those who don't know what it is.
Tumblr media
First my ankle, then my heart.
Levi x fem reader
Canon world, happens after Levi saves Mikasa from female titan, fluff, romance, falling in love, becoming a couple.
Levi has to get physiotherapy after hurting his foot and ankle when saving Mikasa from the female titan. Reluctant at first, he begins to adore his sessions because of you.
Tumblr media
"Tch, waste of time." Levi stared at the referral in his hand. "Stupid order."
"Captain Levi?"
Levi flicked his gaze up and felt his anger melt away. The beauty you held was mesmerising to him. He felt breathless, and all thoughts evaporated from his mind. A strong blush consumed his cheeks, he wasn't sure what to do or say to you.
You moved closer to him. "Captain Levi?" Your smile was like seeing beyond the walls and the vast blue sky again. "Everything okay?"
Levi flinched a little. "Tch, fine."
"Are you sure?" You crouched before him and looked up with your darling doe eyes through your pretty lashes. "Let me guess, you thought this was all stupid, huh? I get that a lot. Trust me, okay? You're in good hands and we'll take it at your pace."
"Sure." He released a long sigh, you had no idea the things you were doing to him. Your voice was even like a choir of birds singing on a summer's day. "Let's do this."
You rose to your feet and led him to your office with a beautiful fresh perfume following you. "Today we'll go over the basics and things to do at home. I'll have a look at how your ankle is fairing as well." You sat down and picked up Levi's file. "Please, take a seat."
Levi plopped down into his chair as he felt compelled by you, he was sure you could tell him to do anything and he'd do it. "Tch, hope there's no embarrassing shit in that file."
You hummed a laugh. "All good stuff, Captain. Physically, you're incredible and you heal so fast. I'm impressed."
That was a good thing, right? He impressed you. Maybe there was some hope you'd find it attractive. "Thanks. Could you call me Levi?"
You closed his file and smiled at him, it was like looking at a field of flowers swaying in a light breeze. "Of course. So, Levi." His cheeks burned at your words. "We're going to do a few stretches so I can see how your ankle is. Please, don't push yourself."
He nodded. "Got it."
"Shoes off and let's begin!"
Levi followed your instructions like his whole world depended on it. He was happy and in his own world until you started touching his ankle and asking questions. He stuttered as he answered you and felt his whole body flush at your soft touch. His heart sank a little because you had to be like this with other men, but he hoped that maybe this time he was special.
The room began to fill with laughter as Levi cracked a few jokes just so he could see you happy. He chuckled when you fired a few back and the two of you got lost in each other. There was just something so magnetic between the two of you like you were drawn to each other.
Levi came to every appointment and made sure he was on time. He started bringing gifts for you and you gave him a few things back. When you worked together the touches began to linger and when you parted gazes were longing.
One day he was doing his resisted plantar flexion, and you were sat behind him on the floor helping him get the band right in his hands. Your hands ran down his arms and he just shivered under your touch. He knew what he was doing, he'd done this plenty of times but he encouraged the contact.
When you spoke against his ear telling him to point his foot up and down, he just wanted to turn around and kiss you. He felt like his heart must have been beating so loud that you could hear it. He flinched when you moved away and felt your warmth leave him.
His cheeks burned when you were by his feet helping him move the band to do resisted eversion. He liked the way you touched him and he really liked how your top was low-cut, which wasn't normal for you, and he could see your ample chest.
You looked up at Levi through your lashes and smiled as you encouraged him. When Levi paused due to overwhelming thoughts and feelings, you frowned a bit. "Levi? Everything okay?"
He shook his head. "No, it's not okay."
"Has your ankle gone bad?" You gently held his ankles. "We can stop."
"No, it's not that." He gulped hard as your thumbs lightly rubbed his skin.
"Well, what's wrong?" You tilted your head slightly. "I want to help."
He looked away. "Tch, shit. I can't fucking stop thinking about kissing you." He put his head in his hands and groaned. "Shit, I'm sorry. I shouldn't...I'm sorry."
"Why don't you?"
Levi looked up as you nibbled your lip. "What?"
You moved closer to him and ran your hand up his leg. "Well, what if I don't want you to hold back. What if I want a kiss too. So, why don't you?"
Levi eyed your lips. "I ah...never really...umm..."
You sat right up to him and caressed his cheek. "It's okay, just go with how you feel." You leaned closer and tilted your head. "I can help."
Levi's lips tingled as his heart raced. Finally, he was going to kiss you, he'd been dreaming of this moment for so long. When your lips touched his, he felt like he was free like when he saw the blue sky for the first time, or when he saw those birds flying above him as he rode out of the walls. Your lips were so warm and soft, he just wanted more.
Levi wrapped his arms around you and pulled you onto his lap. As your bodies touched he felt his body burn with pleasure, a kind of pleasure he'd never experienced before. When your tongue entered his mouth, it was like a fire surged through him and the world faded out. He forgot all about why he was there and just enjoyed being with you.
You pulled back from his lips as your cheeks burned. "You...wow..." You hummed a laugh. "Ah, you need to stop coming to see me as your physiotherapist."
Levi's eyes widened. "What? Why?"
You hummed a laugh. "Cause I want to pursue a relationship with you and I can't really do that with a patient."
He blushed hard. "Oh, yeah you're right." He cleared his throat. "I would like to be a couple. How about sessions at my home?"
You smirked. "Levi, you naughty man."
He went even redder when he realised what he said. "I! I uh!"
You kissed his cheek. "I know what you meant, but you're fun to tease."
He huffed. "Brat." He hummed a bit. "So, can I take you on a date tonight?"
You kissed him. "Yes."

Hi there, currently simping for our mans, Magneto. So what I've been thinking, I know magnetic therapy is pseudoscience but I would really love it if you wrote a fic where the reader comes back home from work and she gets body pain from the stress (totally not self projecting with psychosomatic pain lol) and Erik overall comforts her and uses his mutation to make the pain subside. Thanks in advance btw.
After dying for months, you're my first ask that I finished! Sorry for the delay, I just got out of writer's block 😭
Erik Lehnsherr/Max Eisenhardt x Reader || Fade Into You
Tumblr media
SUMMARY You've been overworking yourself again, coming home to a worried Erik and welcoming bed. But he isn't willing to watch you suffer like this, and so takes matters into his own hands. For a night, his magnetic fields are used for something other than justice.
TAGS: Fluff, Comfort, Reader's gender left ambiguous, Caring Erik, Magnetic therapy, Cuddles.
CW: None. Just that magnetic therapy is pseudoscience but this is fucking X-Men lmao
WORDCOUNT: 1.2k
A/N: This is left ambiguous (intentionally) so you can headcanon Fassbender, 97, Krakoa, or any version of Magneto that wouldn't butcher you. Enjoy?

Man, today was a stressful work day. You just barely managed to get through it, owing to the fact that you'd come home to Erik at the end of it all. The moment you stepped in through the front door, Erik was already there, seemingly waiting for you. The moment you plopped down on the couch, his eyebrows furrowed with concern.
“Welcome home, my dear. You look– exhausted.”
Well, there's that. He always picked up on the littlest of things, both out of care and because of how meticulous he always was. He kind of had to be, in a way. You groaned, gently massaging your shoulder. “It's just.. Everything hurts, Erik. I feel exhausted.” He listened to you speak attentively, shifting closer to let you rest your head on him.
“I've told you so many times to–” Oh, not this again. He turned into somewhat of a doting mother at times. You cut him off, huffing.
“Not to exert myself, I know. But I have to work, Erik.”
He tsks at that, choosing not to press further. It's clear that you weren't going to listen to his words, and frankly he wouldn't blame you for it.
“May I at least prepare some dinner for you?”
He hoped you wouldn't deny him this simple request, because he hated seeing you tired like this. Whenever you'd come home late and tired, or when you fell ill, he wouldn't take any of your ifs or buts. He would push you back into bed and force you to let him take care of you until you recovered. Ah, he was a character. But he was cute.
“..Sure thing, I'd love that.” You agreed, making him nod. He gave you a blanket before he pressed a kiss to your forehead, swiftly making it to the kitchen. It felt like no time at all when your eyes began to droop, all the sleep deprivation and pain catching up to you at last. Your muscles and bones were aching, prompting you to lay down against the inviting surface of the couch. It was so warm and cozy. Kind of like him. That little nap, if you could call it that, was a temporary reprieve, for your body was still aching all over. When your eyes opened, you could see a very upside down Erik Lehnsherr looming over you. He was more funny than intimidating like this. He frowned when you laughed.
“Well, darling, don't just laugh. Sit up. I'm finished with dinner.”
After a minute of rolling around, unwilling to get up (much to Erik's chagrin), you finally complied. He was sitting beside you, bowl of stew in hand. A spoonful floated to your lips, waiting for you to eat. You opened your mouth to protest, but he used the opportunity to slip some stew into your mouth.
“There. Good, isn't it?”
It really was. He'd used only the vegetables you'd like, cooked soft yet not mushy. For a night like this, it was perfect.
“It's.. edible.”
He smirked. He knew you liked it.
“Good enough for me.”
He didn't move an inch until you were full and satisfied, but he didn't grab a bowl for himself. That made you press, “Aren't you eating?”
“Don't you worry about me. We're getting you to bed first.”
“But–” “No arguing, soneczko. Up.”
He waited a beat, but upon noticing that you weren't making any effort to move, he tsked. Time to take matters into his own hands, then. He stood up, scooping you into his arms.
“Hey! Put me down-”
“You don't mean that, I'm sure. You're going to bed.”
You tried to protest, but he was right. The bed seemed more inviting than ever, especially considering you didn't have to walk there. But you also wanted to spend some time with Erik, so you didn't know which to choose. While you were mulling the pros and cons over in your head, he gently set you down on the bed.
“Wait here.”
He left your bedroom, returning with a bowl of stew for himself before sitting down at your bedside.
“Are you going to just.. eat beside me, Erik?”
He clicked his tongue. “Just wait, liebchen. I'm not going anywhere, if that's what you're wondering.”
He held the spoon in his hands this time, eating nonchalantly. Slowly, you feel a faint hum fill the air, as Erik lifts his hand, fingers curling slightly as if cradling something. You feel it immediately—an almost imperceptible shift, like the space around you has become weightless. The tension locked in your muscles loosens as a gentle force spreads through your limbs, coaxing the pain away.
"Relax," he murmurs, his voice steady, reassuring. Another spoonful of stew. “I've got you. You just have to lay back and let me help.”
Like, damn. Who could refuse something like that? Especially with that look in his eyes. He wasn't even exerting himself, something like this second nature to him. That's what made it even better. He was so talented at this.
The magnetic field he manipulates isn't harsh or violent. It's gentle, like a warm pair of hands on your body. They work their way over every muscle, gently prodding at your back. You couldn't help but let out a relaxed sigh as he took his time with you, eating wordlessly as the sleepiness took over. His eyes stayed fixed on you.
It felt like forever as the process continued, but you weren't complaining. You didn't want this to end. You wanted this fucking– magnetic spa, almost, to continue till the end of time. But then the ache subsided, leaving a warmth in its place. Not from heat, but from peace. He shook his head with a smile.
“See? Sometimes listening to me isn't so bad.”
He spoke, matter-of-factly, but teasing regardless. Then he got up to go put the bowl and spoon away, but you caught his hand. He looked down, confused.
“Don't tell me it didn't work–”
“Stay. I want you.”
He chuckled, wagging his finger.
“Oh my. You have to be patient, Schatzi. I'm going to join you in bed after I put these away. So stay there.”
You groaned, shoving him weakly. He left regardless after pressing a kiss to the back of your hand, returning too late, in your eyes. He didn't let you protest for another moment, getting under the covers beside you. It was his turn to comply. A strong arm snaked around your waist, pulling you close. So protective and warm. It made you feel fuzzy.
“Sleep, dearest. You need it.”
His thumb rubbed comforting circles into your hips, lulling you into sleep. You could tell he was using his magnetic fields again to ease you. You hummed lowly, nuzzling into him.
While you thought you were going to stay awake longer, perhaps talk to him, you'd fallen asleep in minutes. He relaxed, relieved that you were finally asleep. As promised, though, he didn't move a muscle. He laid there, tenderly looking at you until he felt tired enough to sleep.
Oh, and: Tomorrow was a weekend, but you still had the alarm set earlier to spend time with Erik. Tch, you needed your beauty sleep. He turned it off. Such a villain…

In 99% of hypotheticals, human genetic engineering is just eugenics, but I really hope that there is a version of it in the future that isn't genocidal and that allows people to have things like tails and 4-cone vision and other senses from other animals that we don't have (infrared sensing from snakes, magnetic field sensing from some pigeon species, echolocation from bats or some cetaceans, electrosense from sharks, etc)
Most (popular) takes on biotechnology are dystopic or with the undertone (or overtone) that biotechnology is inmoral or gross or contra-nature. I do oppose eugenics because it's... eugenics, not because it's "anti-natural" or the technology itself. Eugenics on itself constitutes a violation of human rights. That's a topic for another discussion.
But regarding voluntary human modification, most current ideas of genetic modification involve editing embryos which is something questionable in a lot of ways. Instead I believe that, much like cloning and manufacturing organs might be reality in a future, you could also design new organs and implant them in adult humans.
This is the path that I take in my own biopunk setting. Melanie, for example, wasn't born as a catgirl, she decided to have those implants herself. In the setting, this is considered as commonplace as getting tattoos or piercings.
What is really interesting in this sense is how humans would adapt to implanted biological parts. Given experiments with bionic prothesis, it is found that many people quickly adapt to it and consider them part of their bodies. Same with organ transplants. But what about what you asked about, completely new senses? Could the human brain adapt to an electric or electromagnetic sense? Some people have already experimented with this:
I would love to do more research into specifics for this ask, as human genetic and body modification can cover anything from gene therapy to these expressions.
But of course they are all shaped by the material reality of society. It is true that only rich or well-off people would be able to afford the technology consciously modify their bodies. Most science fiction that approaches this assumes this will remain the case and will turn out into class dystopia. What much science fiction does not approach is the fact that class struggle exists, and society can be changed. What happens when these technologies are available in a socialist or classless society?
Maybe we won't have to wait too long to find out, either.

hi, i was just wondering if you could make a post on apperceptive visual agnosia? love your posts so so much btw
Writing Notes: Apperceptive Visual Agnosia
Agnosia - A rare disease in which a person can’t recognize objects, shapes, or people. Often due to a brain or neurological condition.
Visual Agnosias - Disorders of visual object recognition following brain damage.
Apperceptive Agnosias - According to Lissauer, are those in which recognition fails because of an impairment in visual perception, which is nonetheless above the level of an elementary sensory deficit such as a visual field defect. Patients do not see objects normally, and hence cannot recognize them.
EXAMPLES. Among patients who have been labeled “apperceptive” are those:
who cannot discriminate a circle from a square,
who can recognize any one object but cannot see other objects presented at the same time, and
whose difficulty with object recognition is manifest only with objects presented at unusual orientations.
Apperceptive Visual Agnosias - also known as visual space agnosias, are characterized by the inability to perceive the structure or shape of an object. Persons with apperceptive agnosias have difficulty matching objects of similar form.
This type of agnosia is also classified as an "Object Agnosia". Specifically, the apperceptive type, i.e., the percept is not fully constructed and, therefore, patients are unable to copy drawings.
DIAGNOSIS
Agnosia is diagnosed through:
physical examination,
neuropsychological testing, and
brain imaging.
Examples of neuropsychological tests include:
visual distinction between real and unreal objects,
facial recognition,
verbal and nonverbal sound recognition,
odor recognition, and
tactile form recognition.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computerized axial tomography (CAT) scanning may be used to identify brain lesions to aid diagnosis.
Tumblr media
The above image shows the shape-matching ability of an apperceptive agnosic patient. On the left is a set of rectangles matched for overall area, which were presented pairwise to "Mr. S" to be judged same or different in shape. He was unable to discriminate all but the most distinctive, and made errors even with these. On the right are a set of rows containing a target shape (right) and a set of 4 choices to be matched with the target shape. Mr. S’s answers are marked.
CAUSES
It is thought to arise from a breakdown at relatively early stages of visual processing, where the elementary features of the stimulus are processed. Object recognition through verbal description by the examiner is preserved, instead.
These patients have relatively good visual fields, visual acuity, brightness discrimination, color vision, depth, and motion perception. Despite this, shape perception is abnormal in such a way that patients cannot recognize or copy pictures, letters, and even simple geometric shapes.
In most cases of apperceptive agnosia, the brain damage is diffuse, often caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.
In the rare cases with circumscribed brain lesions, the damage primarily affected the ventral occipitotemporal cortex bilaterally.
According to a widely accepted interpretation, apperceptive agnosia can be considered a deficit of shape perception resulting from defective perceptual grouping of object local features into a global percept.
TREATMENT
There is no direct treatment for visual agnosias. However, patients can benefit from rehabilitation to teach them alternative strategies that target specific difficulties.
Few agnosic patients regain sensory function, and most gains in recovery occur within the first few months or year of diagnosis.
Speech therapy and occupational therapy can help agnosic individuals cope with their conditions.
