Allergies confirmed! We ran Magikarp's histamine test today, since she seems to be recovered from her gastroenteritis. She is allergic to several varieties of evergreen, all of which are native to Hoenn.
Might need to find someone who's both an experienced trainer and not in Hoenn to take her in. At least she's very sweet.

Since we don't have Magikarp's pokeball, the vet had to come make a house call.
It's peculiar. She's got an altaria gastroenteritis bug. I mean, it's not like no one's ever seen this bacteria in gyarados before, but including Magikarp we're talking less than five recorded cases, all in elderly or otherwise immunosuppressed gyarados. We're giving her antibiotics and steroids, and hopefully she'll perk up.
The good news is that this should not be transmissible to the 'karp, although I'll be keeping an eye on them anyways since I don't know how long she was unsupervised in the sanctuary. She's very subdued, probably because she feels so miserable, so she probably stayed right where we found her which at least narrows down which magikarp she would've been in contact with.
She's got a rash around the face and neck this morning. There's a few things that could be, most likely she's allergic to some kind of pollen. If the gastroenteritis doesn't get better in three days, or starts getting worse at any point, we'll run an allergy test along with further testing, but right now the goal is to not stress her and get her feeling better.

Hoenn is full of water and great starter pokemon, but alas Sootopolis is only full of magikarp. Surely the strangers here for their last gym badge would let me keep my lunch money?
Found some time to quickly sketch this out for @modmad ‘s pokemon starter challenge :) mod if you see this I hope you know TPOH and Skip blew my mind when I read them (and still do) thanks for inspiring me to try and make my art more fun!
My dream starter would probably be a vulpix or lampent, but realistically? A pidove or magikarp, both of which are still fantastic pokemon! I went with magikarp because I recently found out the blind ol’ behemoth of a koi fish living in my grandma’s koi pond is still alive. It’s been hiding under some rocks for months.
Every other koi from my childhood has reached the end of their lifespan but not this old thing! That fish is older than me and I’m convinced it will outlive all of us. If it was a magikarp it would definitely be a gyarados by now.
