Fairy tail headcannon a nobody wanted at all😊
- most of the dragon slayers+erza eat bugs regularly and it's gross AF to everyone
-Natsu because he grew up in the woods and they were like the number one abundant source of food, same for Wendy but she stopped for a while because Carla told her it was nasty (as soon as she joined the fairy tail guild she reverted so incredibly fast)
-gajeel pretends to thinks it's gross but secretly he really likes the taste he just doesn't wanna have that in common with natsu
- erza and Erik because in the evil slave tower where everyone was starving if you found a bug you ate it before anyone else could grab it from you.
- sting did not do that growing up but started when natsu told him it was good, he does not agree but does it anyway so natsu thinks he's cool
- rogue only tried it a couple times because frosch wanted to try it to be more like a frog and rogue is nothing if not supportive
- laxus grew up normal and thinks all of them are disgusting
- Lucy has the WORST financial skills. Legit they are awful. Everyone thinks she's always broke cuz of the tpd (team property damage) constantly making them lose their reward to repair bills but (while that is a factor) when Lucy sees smth cute that would look great in her apartment she just cannot help herself. Lucy will be so careful trying to save her money then she'll see a new set of stationary and goes "haha rent what rent"
- the hand me down game at fairy tail was fucking insane when they where kids. For levy and lisanna basically everything they owned had been passed down like 6 times already
- that red shirt natsu wore in the flashbacks? Before him it was erza's, and before her it was canas, and before her it was laxus.
- gray wears almost exclusively white jackets because jackets are expensive and if he loses them he would rather they be easy to spot so he can find them again rather then have to buy a new one
- sometimes people will invite erza places for the scary dog privilege when they dont want to be bothered by strangers. Erza has no idea thats the reason she just thought people really liked walking with her through rough parts of town in the middle of the night.
- Carla and lilly have insane beef, for no damn reason. Like both of them are fairly polite so neither will say it openly but every conversation between the two is the most passive aggressive petty insult battle you could imagine
- freed, levy, Lucy and later jellal have a book club where they all meet up and talk about whatever they're reading and play Scrabble and talk a lot of shit about their annoying ass friends.
- happy sometimes comes but he is under no circumstances allowed to bring natsu(he knows what he did)
- when erza met seigrain/jellal in the magic counsel she first tried to attack him, when that proved to be a bad idea she later started specifically destroying stuff under his jurisdiction to make sure he had to deal with as much paperwork as possible
- for her modelling, Mira used to use a very light spray of holy water to remove body hair because it burns it off💀
- wendy romeo and chelia are actually best friends like they are constantly hanging out together just to go do stuff
- erza and Erik hate each other for no reason at all. Like over that year that she worked with crime sorciere they where ALWAYS BEEFING. Every time they were near each other erza was thinking insults she knew he could hear and Erik was fighting for his life not to strangle her to death.
When erza became sclass she used to sit on the 5th step of the stairs because Mira wasn't allowed on those stairs yet and it really pissed her off. She was like, just barely out of reach, so Mira would stand at the bottom the stairs yelling death threats at her and erza would be like "whattt I'm not doing anything I don't even know what your talking about in literally just sitting what are you so mad about"
- when Warren invented cellphones, despite all of them looking like modern smartphones, freed somehow managed to get one that looked exactly like a Blackberry and refuses to get a different one
- Mira used to cut her siblings hair and because she didn't know any good haircuts yet her 2 options where 1- bald or 2- bowl cut. Hence lisannas horrifying cut as a child

Character Analysis of the Twisted Wonderland Dorm Rooms - Heartslabyul
Not my usual content, exactly, but I thought this was interesting while I was researching for one of my upcoming posts!
Though the characters are in dormitories, they actually show really great characterization in the way they organize and lay out their rooms.
Long and with lots of images, so they are put under a cut.
Dorm Room Character Analysis Series
Heartslabyul | Savanaclaw | Octavinelle | Scarabia | Pomefiore | Ignihyde | Diasomnia
Riddle Rosehearts
Riddle has a lot of books. As in, so many that they aren't able to be contained to the larger bookshelf provided to the Dorm Leader. They have been stacked on top, as well as used to fill the smaller bookshelf to the left and stacked on top of that as well, and then also throughout the rest of the room. Little man is the highest ranking member of the library's readers club.
It is of note that Riddle's dorm is not as organized as you might think at first glance. I know a lot of people look at Riddle and oftentimes peg him as being the hyper-organized person with seems to be impossibly able to maintain how many tasks he has to balance. While that's not entirely untrue, and his room is far from messy, he does have books left open on his ottoman and stacked up on his nightstand that he was, most likely, reading in bed. His single framed art in his room is hung crookedly - and this is not a stylistic choice for the Heartslabyul dorm as some of the strange furniture. Both Deuce and Cater have similar wall decorations, but they are not hung crookedly.
Riddle is the only character to have a repeated motif of a broken heart in his decorations in Heartslabyul. Given what all we know about him and his history with his mother, this is fitting, if a little sad. Little details like this make me love to look at these rooms because you can see so much of how the designers considered the characters and their stories when designing their rooms.
Riddle also has a bouquet in a vase of Roses and White Lillies. While Red roses are a rather obvious motif throughout Heartslabyul, White Lillies are thought to symbolize purity, commitment, and rebirth. These are all strong character themes in Riddle's story.
Ace Trappola
We know that Ace likes card trick, as he learned them from his older brother, but I feel like it gets a little lost on a lot of the fandom that he likes magic tricks in general unless you pay close attention to his room card. He's got a magic wand, magic cups, and magic balls.
He likes basketball enough that he has an entire book dedicated to basketball and a hoop installed in his room.
He either has a spare dorm uniform jacket, or when he's in his room he takes off his uniform jacket and just walks around in the patterned vest and t-shirt. It's also possible, given that his brother was also assigned to Heartslabyul, that it's a hand-me-down jacket from his elder brother.
Ace has a card motif throughout his room, which is a cute touch considering he's based on one of the card soldiers. More than likely, it's because he does like card tricks and games. Of note, he also has a little callback to Deuce being his friend in his spade side table and the rest of his dorm as his rug features the Ace of Hearts, Spades, Diamonds, and Clubs.
Ace's desk doesn't seem to see a lot of use, considering that he has a tower of cards on it, which are notorious for being fragile and falling apart with too much movement. Given that we know in canon he doesn't like to study all that much, it makes sense - more than likely he built it while avoiding studying and then it hasn't been jostled because he hasn't really used his desk since.
Both Ace and Deuce (coming up) have not added personalized bedsheets to their bed as opposed to the rest of their dorm, and they're both freshmen,
As has been pointed out before, Deuce shares a room with Ace.
Deuce, of course, has magic wheel posters on his wall.
Deuce's desk is well used, and he has additional bookshelves hung on his wall. Deuce has notes sticking out of some of his books. He also seems to have a book on ducks and either cats/grim (it could be a book on magical beasts, but it's an interesting detail to add). - see addendum!
Deuce has a framed photo on his desk. I would guess this is probably a family photo of him and his mom, though I cannot confirm this.
Deuce has a jacket hanging on his wall, and while at first glance it might be easy to assume it's a PE Jacket or a Track Jacket, it doesn't match the NRC track uniform or PE uniform. This, actually, based on the cut, seems to be a motorcycle jacket, likely for riding magic wheels. It could also be something leftover from his delinquent days.
Cater's room is actually full of characterization, there are so many little details in his room it isn't funny.
To begin with, it seems like Cater's favorite color might be Orange, given that he's the only one in his dorm so far who has a noticable amount of it that breaks away from the normal Heartslabyul colors. This, of course, could be a design choice because Cater's hair is ginger, but consider that across the board it seems like quite a bit of thought was put into what goes into a character's room. Ace, for example, doesn't feature orange in the same way, and Deuce only features a small bit of blue in his rug. If someone was decorating a room, the likely reason to have so much of one color is because you really like that color, or because it matches the theme of a room. Since we know the latter isn't true, it's likely the former. Orange, symbolically, is often used to portray enthusiasm, agreeableness, and excitement when talking about color symbolism, and that tracks as that's the sort of image that Cater tends to display toward other people even if his own emotions are complex in canon.
Cater has a lot of hobbies in his room - which makes sense because canonically he does a lot of various hobbies. Cater is the sort of person who seems to be deeply into experimenting with who he is and who he wants to be.
Though Cater takes a lot of photos with his phone camera in the story, he also has what appears to be a DSLR camera.
He, of course, shows his love of music by having a small stereo, his guitar, and a pair of headphones next to his computer.
Speaking of Cater's computer, it takes up the majority of his desk, which is fitting for someone who wants to be an influencer.
Cater has a sweater at the ready on the back of his chair, leading me to believe he probably gets cold easily.
Cater also has a skateboard. I don't recall Cater ever talking about skateboarding in canon, but it's possible I missed it. Regardless, he has one - whether or not he can use it is a different story entirely.
Faces on everything. Similar to Ace, Cater's rug is a callback to all of his dormmates, though he also has a couple of emoji-like pillows/plushies. Emojis, of course, are a hallmark of digital communications so it fits with his character, though they are notably cheery and cute. I have to wonder how Cater's decor might be different if he was more honest about how he feels as opposed to playing a character most of the time.
Trey's room, similar to Cater, keeps in with having a notable color scheme with the color green. Again, this is the same color as his hair, however as was the reasoning was explained with Cater, this likely means that Green is Trey's favorite color. Green is a color associated with harmony, focus, efficiency and security.
Trey's room is notably more sparsely decorated than the other students. Most of the Heartslabyul cast have something - a photo hanging up, a unique piece of furniture, etc, however Trey really only has his hat stand. If you were to consider Cater one end of a spectrum that leans maximalist, Trey is the opposite, leaning much more minimalist.
It's also of note that Trey is probably the most organized person we've seen so far, even surpassing Riddle. His books are all kept in vertical rows, he has a pen holder on his desk, and he has a hat-stand to keep his hats. Everything in his room has a place, and there is no notable clutter.
Given that we know that Trey likes to bake, he probably doesn't spend much of his free time in his room, which is likely part of why it's so sparsely decorated outside the bed.
Similar to how Ace has a callback to Deuce, and how Deuce has a callback to Grim, Trey's rug is a clover that is divided into the shape of hearts, which is Riddle's motif, and a cute callback to them being childhood friends.
Addendums:
Several people have pointed things out in the comments, so I figured that I would go ahead and add them to this main post as well as they come in.
@margorako has pointed out that the jacket in Decue's room is indeed his jacket he wore during his delinquent days. As was featured in the Twisted Wonderland Manga. I thought it looked familiar, but this confirms that a) it's a magic wheel jacket, and b) that it is embroidered on the back. Great eye!
@eternalsnowfan02 mentioned that Cater does indeed skateboard, as is confirmed in his Union Jacket Birthday card when Jamil purchases him stickers for his skateboard. This means he is, in fact, a Skater Boy.
@xhazmia Pointed out that the book that features a head that appears to be Grim's Head is actually likely the hidden mickey for Deuce's room. Good eye! My vision is bad™ so I'm not usually the best for picking these out in the bedrooms in TWST. I managed to spot a few in the other rooms where they were pretty obvious though:
I have not managed to spot the one for Trey's room, but in looking closer I did notice something else.
This object on Trey's bookshelf is a glasses container, lending further to the notion that he's the most organized of the characters in Heartslabyul.

Marvel AU - Monster (or coward?)
Timeline: During The Battle of New York, but what if Sylvie and Loki invaded New York together?
Characters: Liane Felton, Loki Laufeyson, Sylvie Laufeydottir
Features: Ethan Lensherr, Rochelle Romanoff-Felton and some characters from Liane's past
IB: Monster by Imagine Dragons, Avengers (2012)
'Ever since I could remember
Everything inside of me
Just wanted to fit in,'
"We need to get out of here, this building isn't stable!"
"Funny, I was about to say that about your mental state!" Ethan joked, holding back debris as Liane ran for safety. The battle of New York was raging as heroes ran left and right trying to get STARK staff members away from the tower in a hurry.
"You're cute. Come on, I don't wanna drag you out from underneath rubble."
"Go, I'll hold it off until everyone's safe."
Liane nodded and ran towards the exit but as she ran through what she thought was the door to outside she found herself inside a box that seemed to be made of pure gold. When she turned around the door was gone and she was entirely surrounded by walls of gold, from floor to ceiling. Liane growled, her fists balled as her anger rose.
'If I told you what I was
Would you turn your back on me?
And if I seem dangerous
Would you be scared?'
"Dammit Loki or whatever, let me out!"
A dry chuckle echoed through the hollow space, clearly enjoying this.
"My my, Miss Felton. You forget yourself. That's hardly the way a polite young lady would address her father..."
"What?"
Liane turned to follow the sound and saw her father before her, standing in her family home with her, her surroundings now resembling her family's dining hall. She knew it was magic but she could hear the ticking grandfather clock on the floor, she could feel the heat from the roaring fire, she could smell the sharp scent of the lillies on the dining table and the hairs on her neck stood straight up as she heard the unmistakable voice.
"Come on little lady, say you're sorry and give me a smile."
"I won't fall for your tricks! That's not my father!"
"How dare you, you insolent girl!" Her father snarled, leaning in to hit her, booze on his breath.
"I'm not scared of you, your stupid magic can't hurt me, you're gonna have to try harder than that if you want to hurt me, Dumb and Dumber."
'I get the feeling just because
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
That this problem lies in me.'
The image of her father melted away and suddenly she was in her childhood bedroom and the scent of nail polish hung in the air as someone approached her, someone looming over her by miles. Then she saw his eyes and his wicked grin and felt her heart race. It was Quentin. She felt so much younger in his gaze, so much smaller and so naive. It stung her eyes seeing him like that before her, as if she'd never even left.
"Little Sister...myself and the boys want to play a little game and we need a damsel in distress."
"You're a liar, you always were!"
"What? We simply want to rescue the pretty princess but you will have to get in the boat and let us tie you up. But don't worry! We'll rescue you. Eventually."
"Rot in hell, Quentin!"
"Have it your way..."
Liane's eyes stung with tears as her eyes changed colour.
"Stop it, stop it Quent!"
"Awwww baby's crying! Look at the baby crying!"
"YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH QUENTIN OR I WILL BURN YOUR STUPID HEAD!"
'Can I clear my conscience
If I'm different from the rest
Do I have to run and hide?'
The illusions faded as she was transported back into the box.
"Now there's the Felton I was told about..."
"You could do so much if you weren't so pathetic and predictable all the time..."
"Who ever heard of a hero that can burn you alive?"
"You can both shut up! I changed! But you...you never will."
"Shame. We were really getting somewhere for a minute there. Shall we?"
"Go on then."
The room melted away all over again and now Liane saw a place she'd tried to forget. A room she wished she'd never entered. Seeing a face she never wanted to see again. And hearing that voice that haunted her days and nights ever since she put him away.
'I never said that I want this
This burden came to me
And it's made it's home inside,'
"Guten tag, frauline...."
"Edmund..."
"Awww no pet name this time? Aw you are shaking like a leaf. Would you like my coat?"
"You stay away from me!"
"But why? You knew this was happening, und you never said no to it before. You befriended those girls, you bought them the drinks, you made them your friends all happy, and you let me take them away..."
"I was drunk! You always made sure of that, you filthy monster!"
"Nein! Nein, I am not the only monster here. You were, how you say, complicit in the crimes? You could have said no. You could have said you wanted no part in my plans. But you were just so desperate to be loved and adored that you turned a blind eye! All those innocent, naive girls! The blood of those girls is ON YOUR HANDS ALONE! You, are the true monster, Frauline."
'A monster, a monster
I've turned into a monster
A monster, a monster
And it keeps getting stronger.'
Every wall started to reflect just Liane's reflection back at her but each one was different. Her childhood, her teens, her eyes bright purple in all of them, each reflection whispering the same word over and over again as the word started to ring in her head like a death toll.
Monster.
Monster.
Monster!
"ENOUGH!" Liane screamed as the room was consumed by flames, the reflections all melting and the illusions shifting in a jarring fashion from Edmund Zola, to Quentin, to Milton and then back to Loki, who was grinning from ear to ear.
"We finally broke her...told you it was easy."
"You were right, turns out if one's heart is so blackened and bruised, then it won't be tricky to turn it darker."
"I'm not a monster!"
"Oh really? Monsters are born from anger, pain and hatred. Monsters act without thought. Monsters are ruthless. And what does that make you? A monster? Or a coward?"
"I'll take coward over monster any day, and for the record I was tricked!"
The two Lokis laughed, holding their stomachs as tears rolled down their cheeks as if Liane had just told the funniest joke.
"Were you now? So you lashing out at your father, was because of a trick?"
"You hurting your brothers, that was the fault of a trick?"
"You turning on Edmund and testifying against him, all because you were tricked? No my dear sweet monster, you knew exactly what you were doing. That rage, your fire, you deliberately took that rage and damaged them.
"Scarring your father's face, burning your brother's hair, and don't forget that scar running down Eddie's chest, right over his heart. That was all you. That was the monster. And it's getting stronger. But the longer you hide it with this...hero act? It'll get murderous. It will hurt people you care about. That boy you like? Your precious cousin? Your new friends who just started to trust you? They'll all be ashes on the ground. And you'll be painted as a villain. Just like us."
Loki and Sylvie approached, as Liane looked up at them, tears in her eyes as Loki grabbed her chin harshly.
"Shhhh it's alright little Mutant, it's very simple. Either wait until your actions destroy everyone you love, or give in to us and follow the future rulers of Asgard."
"We could make your our little princess. Put a pretty crown on your golden curls. Keep you in a lovely little box where you won't hurt anyone back on Asgard. And all you'll have to do is just prance about and play dress up, ride on your very own pegasus, we'll make you your own boyfriend or girlfriend to play with, all day long. Or....you and your precious little team die. Either by your hands, or ours. Your choice, Princess."
Liane looked around her and saw her team through the confines of the box she was trapped in. All of them fighting tooth and nail to take out aliens and get the people to safety. All things she would have scoffed at a year ago. She saw Ethan, doing everything he can to help the citizens get away. Rochelle, fighting aliens left and right even as she's injured. Her team doing whatever it takes to save the world. They were better off without her.
'I'm only a man with a candle to guide me
I'm taking a stand to escape what's inside me,'
Liane hung her head and looked up at the Lokis, resigned to her fate.
"Do what you like. But don't hurt my friends. Lock me up, tease me, play with me, whatever. But you don't touch them. Please." There was shame in her eyes but Liane had decided she was better off a coward than a monster. Loki nodded his approval.
"Glad you came to your senses, Little Princess. They didn't need you anyway. Sylvie?"
Sylvie wrapped chains around Liane's neck and wrists, leading her to a portal as a voice rang out, beyond the box, from the outside. Liane was barely paying attention when it hit her ears. And a smile spread on her face as it repeated. And she could see outside the box his big green eyes, his dark hair and the concern and worry in his face as he shouted across the battlefield. Ethan was calling to her.
"LIANE!"
"Silly boy, come on pet, we've built a cage just for you."
"Shame."
"I beg your pardon?"
"I said, shame. Cause your pet just remembered what freedom tastes like!"
The entire box was set ablaze as Lianes eyes glowed, her chains sizzling to dust as she approached the two Mischief deities.
"Turns out I can be both. I can be the daughter of a sleazy businessman and a hero. The sister of a disgusting politician and an Avenger. The ex fiancée of the leader of HYDRA, and the girl about to kick. Your sorry. Asses!"
The box crumbled away to nothing as Liane approached the two co-conspirators with fury in her eyes, her fists aflame.
"You'd better keep fighting cause I'm gonna make damn sure you go back where you came from AND YOU NEVER COME BACK!" Liane roared as airborne fire seemed to burst from her lungs and out of her mouth, sitting the pair ablaze as they disappeared in a poof of magic.
As she managed to find her bearings a hand reached and squeezed hers tightly. It was Rochelle's, and her bright blue cousin was smiling.
"Let's end this fight."
"Together."
And the two fighting Feltons rushed back into the fray, a new sense of courage now fostered in Liane's bruised and blackened heart, slowly starting to rise to reflect on her face. Maybe the past wouldn't define her forever. And just maybe, she would get through this and move on. But not today. That battle was for another time, in another place. Probably in a doctors office somewhere. Monster, coward, hero was starting to sound pretty good from where Liane was standing.
Hope you enjoyed!

Hello I'm wanting to participate in the bg3 matchup please, if it's closed I'm sorry. I'm gonna do my tav (my pfp), thank you ^^ Name: Nixie Stormchapel Age: 27 Pronouns: She/Her Sexuality: Pansexual (Monogamous) Class: Sorcerer (Storm sorcerer) Race: Tiefling (Mephistopheles) Background: Sailor/Criminal (Pirate) Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Likes: Rum, jewelry, her "crew", kids/animals (secretly but not so secretly), whale blubber, a good erotica, the sea, her ship the "Dazzling Pearl". Dislikes: Pirate hunters, slavers, racists (especially against tiefling), people who don't respect/tip barmaids, people who don't know how to take a joke, scurvy. Hobbies: Pickpocketing, map making, singing sea shanties, drinking rum/tea, building model ships, and reading pirate erotica. Feats: Became a pirate captain after slaying a kraken that killed the former captain, "successfully" made out with a siren and survived when she ripped out her spleen, has freed hundreds of slaves from ships. Fears: Getting scurvy, adds lemon to her daily diet to avoid it, like adding it to rum/tea, her food or just eats it like one would an apple. Letting her "crew" down, constantly worries about their wellbeings but is to prideful to admit this fear. Personality: Is very charming and witty, loves to socialize, is always seen smiling or making jokes and can be a bit flirty but when she gets mad it can be pretty unsettling since it's so rare. Bonds: Tends to compliment people a lot, usually to get what she wants but if she likes you she means it genuinely, also loves to give gifts, like the treasures she found. Is loyal to her "crew". Ideals: Believes freedom to be the upmost of importance, the sea was freedom to her. When she was a pirate captain she not only pillaged other ships for loot but freed slaves being transported via sea. Faith: None Flaws: Has a bit of a drinking problem, but rarely gets wasted due to infernal blood, also loves shiny things, can't resist the shiny, so she often steals stuff under people's noses. Has a mouth of a sailor, no filter once so ever. Strength: 14 Intelligence: 12 Dexterity: 10 Wisdom: 9 Constitution: 13 Charisma: 17
A/N: Because you @lilly-pad02 didn’t specify a gender preference, just that your Tav is Pansexual and monogamous, I’ve given you one of both below. For your matchups, I think Gale (Male) and Karlach (Female) would be best suited to you.
☸ Gale would be a great match for your Tav, Nixie! He’s always excited to learn more about the world, especially about lands, cultures, and magics from far away. He’d love nothing more than for Nixie to regal him with all the tales of her and her crew’s grand adventures on the high seas.
Gale has made it very clear that to him, the most important thing in a partner is personality and commitment, not looks. He’s not against dating a tiefling, or a halfling, or even a mind flayer! He thinks Nixie looks amazing. She has this strong, adventurous aura about her which intrigues him greatly.
Gale may be a bit intimidated even by Nixie’s outgoing demon and sailor mouth, but that just becomes another one of the things he loves about her. He thinks it's very admirable, Nixie’s choice to save slaves from their slave ships, to grant them freedom. Gale knows freedom is not something to take lightly, it's a treasure, and it should be protected accordingly. (He’s also a little teensy bit intimidated by her sorcery, being a wizard and all, but he keeps that tidbit to himself.)
Gale’s home is in Waterdeep but he’s not against joining Nixie for one or two adventures on the high seas every year, so long as he can come back to his tower now and then to check in on Mrs. Dekarious and his old friends. On that note, Tara adores Nixie, for getting Gale to finally come out of his shell. Although the tressym may have a habit of making a passive-aggressive comment or two about the pair finally “settling down” lol.
Knowing that she wants to avoid scurvy, Gale takes it upon himself to find all the recipes he can that include lemon or orange, promising to make them for her. He loves cooking and is more than happy to adjust his ingredient list to suit her needs.
The both of them are constantly in pursuit of something more, something greater- a trait they admire in one another. They encourage each other in the best of ways, all while understanding that even though they're committed to one another, they’re committed to their unique goals as well.
Overall the two of them work great together! Their goals in life and love align just perfectly! Thanks to Nixie’s travels and Gale’s teaching, they become one of the best-known couples in Baldur’s Gate. Bards and poets alike write songs and prose dedicated to their relationship. It’s very safe to say they’re basically couple goals.
❂ Karlach would also make a good match for Nixie! She’s just as loud and adventurous and always down for a good time. Plus, Karlach is a tiefling as well, so she gets the discrimination that can come with the horns and tail.
Karlach and Nixie together are like the life of the party! They’re both so compassionate, even though their lives haven’t always been easy. Karalch admires Nixie so much for her rebellious spirit, choosing to free the slaves on slave ships she and her crew come across. Karlach herself was a slave once, and she would have given anything for someone like Nixie to come and rescue her before she was dragged to Avernus.
A date between the two of them involves A LOT of rum drinking. And singing. And karaoke. (Do they have karaoke in DnD? Well, whatever, they do now!)
So long as Karlach’s infernal engine gets fixed, I could see her enjoying a life spent mostly on the high seas. She’d love feeling like part of a crew/family and getting to stay by Nixie’s side. Just promise to keep the rum stocked for the journey, throw in a pirate’s hat, and Karalch’s on board!
The two of them are a fierce couple. They become well known as renegades, especially amongst other tieflings. In fact, they sort of become tiefling legends- being hailed as heroes for freeing many of their people from slave ships and never being afraid to punch a racist in the nose.
With the two of them together, there’s nothing they can’t face!

Yes let's daydream.... My perfect magical home... I want an old brick house. I like gothic, victorian, Art nouveau or even older architecture styles. A huge garden full of flowers and vegetables, fruits and animals. I want sooo many trees everywhere. A pond with water lillies. A forest full of bluebells. I want to see birds and deer around all year. I want old and beautiful things. Pretty wallpaper and cute kitchen tiles. Wood floor. So many paintings and collections of little pretty things. Stars on the ceiling of the bedroom. A guest room. Living room with a green velvet Couch. A greenhouse. A country cottagecore kitchen. A mermaid bathroom. An attic like in the beautiful 90s witch movies. Maybe a tower with a secret entrance full of witchy magical things. A wall full of books, movies and music. A stained glass window! A house with a name is such a lovely thought I might call it Bluebellgrove. A magical secret maybe a fae forest around, a dragon sleeping in the cellar guarding my gold, nymphs in the pond, dryads in the trees, ghost in the attic. All supernatural being are welcome. They can be my neighbors and the animals and trees. 🌲🌳🌿🦇🦔🐿️
Imagine a Mix of the addams family, Pippi longstocking's house (plus animals and Gold treasure in the cellar) , the spellman aunt's house (old and New Version plus talking cat), wizard school aesthetic with a bit of thranduil's woodelven palace. A movie set like Tim burton, Wes Anderson, Guillermo del Toro, Terry Gilliam and the All of the movie Sets in Penelope (Christina Ricci movie) Tim walker Photographs.
Dark Cottagecore, dark academia, eclectic, french abandoned castle, english countryside, american 90s witch, Grimm's Fairytale haunted forest, Edmund Dulac, Alfons Mucha, John Bauer illustration style.

When the Circles fell and her and her friends were on the run, she's touched by a spirit from the rift and it reverses her Tranquility

A Question asked...
So, let's say hypothetically that before the tryouts for The Emperor's Coven Lilith didn't curse Eda.
Then it played out like it did where Eda wouldn't fight her own Sister for a place in the Coven, and walks away.
But as she wasn't Cursed, she didn't turn into the Owl Beast.
Do you think the events of The Owl House Series would've still happened or would it have been different?
Oh?
The events would have been very different.
With no Owl Beast Curse, I wouldn't have had to run away from home after the Beast caused me to attack my own father and family.
I had to leave them to keep them safe. ☹️
It's very likely that I wouldn't have been around the old Watch Tower (where The Owl House was later built) to fall over the Portal Door...
Without that, and still being at home, I wouldn't have been to the Human Realm, and Owlbert wouldn't be collecting Human Trash for me to sell, as I would not have any need to do that.
So Luz wouldn't have followed Owlbert through the Portal to The Boiling Isles...
Without Luz going back in time to meet him, Phillip Wittebane wouldn't have found everything he needed for his plans at that time.
But this probably only delayed things ...
There's a good chance that his plans for the so called Day Of Unity may well have succeeded. 😯
Yes, a very different timeline.
Amity? Without Luz, would she have been able to break free and be herself?
Luz? She would have gone to that Camp place.
Her life without the magic of The Isles would also have been very different...
So, on balance, it's possibly for the best what Lilly did!
Everything seems to have ended pretty well in the end...

You know the flat Rajan buys for Kala in Paris? The one that apparently has rooms for the whole cluster + family? With direct access to the roof and a clear view of the Eiffel Tower? That flat?
Yeah. I have a question. WHERE in the hell that is Paris is this flat??? No, because. I had a friend who lived near the Trocadero, 18m square tiny studio, 2 minutes away from the Champ de Mars. I would very much like Lana and Lilly to tell me if this magical flat really exists.
This way the day I'm finally loaded I'm going back to Paris and getting it.

Meet Fitzgerald’s Finders
A Rewrite of the Keepers from HPHL because yes
Top: Niamh and Percival
Middle: Nemesia and Charles
Last: Emira and San
Percival Rackham
Percival Rackham is the main leader of Fitzgerald’s Finders, a former Hufflepuff, and a divination professor at Hogwarts. He was the one who discovered the great power ancient magic had and that is was fading away and would disappear forever if it was not protected. As such, when he discovered this as a professor and talked to his colleague, the headmistress, she agreed and helped set up a group to research, find, and protect ancient forms of magic.
Niamh Fitzgerald
Niamh was not only a headmistress of Hogwarts, but she was also the namesake of this group, it’s co leader, and a former Ravenclaw. She was eager to help Percival in his quest to protect ancient magic and used her position to her advantage. Niamh was a very well read woman who excelled in the history of magic as a student and was fascinated by it. As headmistress, she worried about her students going on the wrong path and did everything to make sure they were always on a righteous path, although this did not always work.
Emira Ndiaye
Emira was always fascinated by the stars and stargazed at the Gryffindor tower often, and later, became the astronomy professor. She knew Charles Rookwood from her childhood as both of them came from the same hamlet in Scotland. When she became a professor, she formed a friendship with Percival Rackham and thought of ways that her passion for astronomy could be connected to his talent for divination. She also helped Nemesia research proper times to plant magical plants depending on the stars and learned about magical beasts from her colleague San Bakar.
San Bakar
San Bakar was a professor at Hogwarts of beasts who was also a former Slytherin. Originally from Yemen, Bakar traveled with his mother as a young boy when their magical abilities were discovered by their muggle community. During his travels, he encountered many magical beasts and developed a passion for them, enjoying the beasts classes he would take at Hogwarts, the location where his and his mother’s travels ended. He also dabbled in dark magic briefly just to know it if it was necessary to use in certain situations.
Nemesia Hearst
Nemesia Hearst was a member of Slytherin House who after discovering her love for herbology, came back to teach the subject and shared a close bond and friendship with Niamh Fitzgerald. She did research on magical plants that was kept in journals however they got lost for centuries until they were rediscovered in the 1900s in the Hearst Hall by her descendants. One of her biggest studies involved the discovery of Cobra Lillies and their characteristics and behavior as they did possess snake like qualities.
Charles Rookwood
Charles Rookwood was a transfiguration professor at Hogwarts and a former member of Slytherin and ancestor of Victor Rookwood. He was also a close friend of Percival Rackham’s and after Niamh Fitzgerald, was the second to join his cause. He was a very successful man however over the generations, his family resorted to crime circles, similar to the Hearst family in the 1700s. However, while the Hearsts managed to remove themselves from the dark arts and crime, the Rookwoods stayed with it, with one of Charles’ direct descendants becoming a death eater

Hi Lilly ! Please tell us more about your trip to Edinburgh :)
It was lovely
One thing about me is when I go to a big city, you bet I'm going to be a tourist.
Edinburgh was unreal! The number of independent artists, musicians, and performers is absolutely mind-boggling. I've never seen anything like it. There was always the distant ringing of someone playing "Scotland the Brave" which really tied things together. People were so friendly and rooted in who they are, and you can tell they loved their city. The architecture was gorgeous. It's not every day you get to see archaic gothic towers next to modern skyscrapers.
That's one thing I love about Scotland, it is so rich in tradition while still remaining with the times. The place is full normally during the September season because of the cultural pipe band events because players come from America, the Middle East, Africa, and Austrailia to compete in the World Championships.
If you plan to visit Edinburgh, you HAVE to visit the castle. Pre-book online because there is not a chance in hell that you'll get in from the gate because it's always so full on the path to the castle. The castle itself is very large and spectaculately built. You get to see the prisons and the royal rooms and get a glimpse into a private room where the Crown of Scotland, which was used to coronate Charles II, is kept today. I've never seen anything so beautiful.
If you're a fan of creativity, love to see free spirits, and are willing to have a dark academic experience, you should definitely visit. After all, it is the city that inspired Harry Potter. There is definitely a magic in the air. I love Harry Potter, so you could imagine how fun passing the corridors and nooks was.
Edinburgh has a sparkle to it that you won't find in Glasgow because of its lore. I walked everywhere because, once again, tourist city = 0 parking. It was tiresome, but I soon realised that's just how Scotland works. If you want to go somewhere, your feet are your best vehicle. I went to the highest points and could see the sea from the distance.
You see, Edinburgh is a big city that was built at the coast for defence and trade reasons, so you'll notice that there is a lot of business going on as well as amazing coastal views.
I visited the iconic Edinburgh University, and I was almost tempted to make a switch because of how beautiful it is. Afterwards, I went into the mall, and apparently, there's some Gordon Ramsey restaurant that I unfortunately forgot to try. However, the mall is packed with all a girl would ever want.
After experiencing it all you can go to the train station and its fairly cheap to go from Edinburgh to any other part of Scotland so if you want to travel with ease it's good to stay in Edinburgh so you can have easy access to travel opportunities to the rest of Scotland (not to mention once every year they have a fun little Hogwarts train reference, absolutely beautiful place too, Scotland takes its architecture seriously)
I am the biggest, non Scottish Scotland fan. I had a great time in Edinburgh. It opened up my little small city brain up to the concept of freedom, creative talent, and tasteful living.
All in all, an 11/10 experience. Long life Scotland!

Mystic City - Pittsburgh,PA
The evil Empire, led by the formidable Emperor Drakon, sought to impose its will upon the city, spreading fear and darkness wherever it went. Its towering skyscrapers cast long shadows over the landscape, while its armies of robotic enforcers patrolled the streets, enforcing strict rules and curfews on the citizens.
On the other side of the city lay Wonderland, a hidden realm of magic and wonder that existed parallel to the ordinary world. Populated by fantastical creatures and ruled by the enigmatic Queen Seraphina, Wonderland was a place of dreams and imagination, where anything was possible.
Caught in the middle of these opposing forces were the residents of Pittsburgh, a diverse and resilient community made up of people from all walks of life. Despite the challenges they faced, they banded together in solidarity, supporting each other through thick and thin.
At the heart of this story were two unlikely heroes—Ethan, a young artist from the city, and Lilly, a mysterious traveler from Wonderland. Through a twist of fate, their paths crossed, and they found themselves thrust into a battle for the soul of Pittsburgh.
As the forces of good and evil clashed, Ethan and Lilly discovered that the key to saving their city lay not in fighting fire with fire, but in harnessing the power of love and unity. Drawing strength from their community and their unwavering bond, they embarked on a journey to bring about peace and harmony in Pittsburgh, bridging the divide between the Empire and Wonderland.
In the end, it was not through force or magic that victory was achieved, but through the simple acts of compassion, understanding, and friendship. The city of Pittsburgh was forever transformed, becoming a beacon of hope and inspiration for all who dwelled within its borders. And thus, the tale of life, community, and love in Pittsburgh endured, a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit.

Chapter 5: One Endless Darkness
Part 3
———
They make their way towards the Cloaktower. As they walk, the streets are quiet. Posters plastered up across every flat vertical surface mention the three day mourning period for Lord Neverember. The citizens that brave the streets are sombre, dressed in black and keeping their voices low. Melancholy music echoes over the wind.
The gates of the Cloaktower are open, revealing a intricately manicured garden lining a pathway that winds towards the tower. The gate is flanked by two guards, lightly armoured and holdng staves to attention - a gnome and a half orc. Lilli takes the lead, pulling her soulders back and raising her chin. Upon their arrival the two guards step forwards.
“Halt! What is your business at the Cloaktower?”
”We have information regarding magical disturbances and artefacts that we think might be of interest to the Many-Starred Cloaks.” Lilli states. The two guards look at each other and nod.
“One moment please.” The gnome guard touches their head, bowing it just a little.
“Someone will be out with you shortly. Please wait here.”
A long few minutes drag by before finally, a flash of teleportation magic ripples out and someone steps through the gate, appearing from nowhere.
“Ooh, cool portal.” Lilli mutters. The someone is a human man, in his 60s, bald, dark skin, and cloaked in a robe that has a pattern of space and stars lining the inside. He clasps his hands and huffs.
“How can the Many-Starred Cloak help you? Magic disturbances? Artefacts? Come on. Speak. I don’t have all day.” Lilli glances at the guards before continuing.
“We found a portal guarded by monsters inside the old asylum in lower Neverwinter. We both nearly dies escaping. We also found this-” and she hold up the arcane focus. The wizard glances at it nonchalantly.
“What were you doing in the old asylum? Isn’t that condemned?”
”We were investigating the people turning up feebleminded on the streets. Our hunting led us there. this gem - or focus, whatever it is - nearly melted my brain when I grabbed hold of it.” Zythraul adds.
“Melted your.. Ugh. Let me just have a look.” He waves his hand closes his eyes. The focus in Lilli’s hand flashes with an obsidian aura. The man gasps, cutting off the spell abruptly.
“Well, yes. I think you two better come in and tell me what you found in greater detail. Follow me please.” He waves gestures towards the gate. Zythraul and Lilli follow.
As they step through the gate they feel that pulse of magic vibrate through them and suddenly they are in an entirely different space; not the garden pathway leading up to the tower but a room filled with arcane study parephenalia. The wizard man follows them through. “Firstly, introductions. My name is Athalos of the Many-Starred Cloak.”
“Humility. This is Zythraul.”
“A pleasure. We are grateful for your help.” Athalos looks at the two of them over his nose,
“Indeed. It’s lucky you sought out our help. Do you know what that is?”
”Some kind of arcane focus, best we can tell.” Athalos nods.
“It’s definitely that. With a powerful spell baked into it, as well as some powerful detrimental effects. I would have recommended you avoid attuning to it but well… we’ve missed that boat apparently.” He looks pointedly at Lilli, who looks away and around at the room.
“And have me miss out on getting to know you? Rude.” Lilli hears Zotrym say. She jumps ever so slightly in surprise, not expecting him to interject. She spots him sitting in a chair behind Athalos, elegantly draped, one hand on his cane, bowler hat on his knee. She says nothing to him in response. The other two appear to not see him.
“Well, do you know anything about the portal we saw in the asylum? This focus came out of that.” Zythraul asks, resisting the urge to throw a judgmental glance in Lilli’s direction.
”Came out of the... huh. Well, without being there myself it’s hard to say. Describe it. You said monsters came out of it? Describe those.” Zythraul does. Athalos contemplates.
“Definitely sounds like it’s connected to the underdark. You don’t get those monsters here in Neverwinter. A portal appearing in the city like that around the same time the head of the city is murdered and strange magic foci coming out of them? It does seem suspicious. Let me just…” and he turns to a shelf of books behind the chair Zotrym is perched on, contemplating for a moment. Lilli is sure Zotrym will be seen, but the mage says nothing about the green man sitting in his reading chair. Zotrym winks at lilli, apparently hearing what Lilli was thinking.
“He cant see me either. Just you babes.”
“Uhh, you didn’t say anything about these detrimental effects. Anything I should be worried about?” Athalos pulls a book down from the shelf, flicking through the pages. Over his shoulder he mumbles,
“Oh. yes. probably.” Lilli and Zythraul wait as Athalos loses his train of thought in the pages of the book he is skimming. There’s a long moment of a quiet before he turns around, remembering the presence of his visitors.
“Oh! Right. Detrimental effects may include a slow descent into madness and hallucinations. also, if you stray too far from it your senses might stop functioning until you get back within range. But, you can summon a powerful ally with it and it will definitely empower any spells you cast, so there’s that?” Athalos goes back to skimming his book, furrowing his brow. Lilli looks concerned and falls back into another chair behind her. Zythraul also scowls.
“I’m sorry, what? Madness? Hallucinations? Loss of senses?” Athalos nods. Zythraul turns to Lilli.
“Lil, we don’t need this. We should leave it here for the mages to put somewhere safe. Unattune from it and let’s go.”
“Oh, that would be a good idea, except you can’t. Not that easily, anyway” Athalos says, at the same time Lilli hears Zotrym say,
“I wouldn’t suggest that.”
“Can’t?”
“Not unless one of you can channel a greater restoration into you at the same time. I know I certainly can’t. Those potential side effects I mentioned? Empowered tenfold if you attempt unattunement. You won’t sever the connection unscathed without help. Or you die.”

The towering inferno behind Blaze stared down upon her with displeasure. Blaze could feel her mother's disapproval, not anger, but disappointment. There were many rules she was expected to obey, and to follow as princess and future goddess. Everything was to prepare her for a future she still couldn't see or fathom. This was not part of that future, a future everyone had planned out for her meticulously. For once though---this was her choice, her desire, and one she embraced no matter the consequences.
Blazed looked up to her mother with those bright white coals for eyes expecting to be scolded. Yelled at, disciplined even, as she had never stepped so out of line in her life. She was an adult now by mortal standards physically she would never age beyond what she was. But to her mother she would always be a child, always be her little flame and she often forgot that blaze was grown now! and like other mortals she had mortal desires.
But this? It was sudden, and now that she had time to consider what she offered it was dawning on her what she'd said. No she did not regret nor retract her offer. But it was plain that blaze perhaps had acted impulsively.
" Mother? ...."
Blaze spoke as Sol had not responded since blaze's affirmation. There was still more silence before the goddess clasped her hands in front of her and let out what seemed to be a great sigh. She spoke finally with that same motherly tone only filled with agitation and disappointment with her child.
" ... Oh Daughter, my little Flame... this choice is one you must bare. "
Her eyes traveled to Poppy with a softer look as she lowered them to lilly.
" Mmm perhaps this path is Wise... speaking with the gods of Flora may give us new insight... perhaps this keeper can shine light on the laws and bylaws of flora... "
Sol Rose to her full height and her eyes closed, the magic was waning and she knew her time was ending. She must depart, and return to her slumber.
" ... My decision then--- Child of Flora... and her youngling, as of this moment. Due to my daughter's brashness, i hereby grant you leave to remain, as my daughters promised consort. Until such time that the keeper may be called and a resolution resolved... "
Sol Turned and made her way back to the Pyre back to the brazier that burned evermore. Stepping within the great pyre and growing to her true size once more. She loomed over the great hall and extended her arms outward.
" My word is law, let none question it... however Little Flame... know that... your choices will have consequences. You must live with them... in time you may come to regret this choice... in time... in time...always with time..."
she whispered her last few words as she sunk back into the pyre and with a bright flash of flames. Her presence faded away and the temples atmosphere returned to what it once was. Blaze felt like a scolded child---but she did not regret her choice. She wanted to embrace Poppy for just a moment but doing so as she would was ill advised. She bowed her head to Poppy and made her way across the temple toward a priest who waited for her She crossed her arms over her chest and her flames began to die. The black becoming red, and red becoming orange. Slowly her body returned to its beautiful violet hue.
Blaze fell to her knees smoke rolling from her body as her flesh and bones returned to her. Weakness over took her, her mana all but drained from the ceremony. Her clothing had burned away, leaving her rather bare but a priest quickly covered her and helped her stand once more. Blaze tugged the robe about her closely and made her way before Poppy with a weakened smile.
" I... apologize... i had wanted to spend more time together before... making such an offer. But it was the only way i could think to allow you to remain. "
She sighed softly as she pulled the robe closer around her.
" I hope you do not also think me brash... i could not think of another way... "
Well, so much for hoping for a simple friendly chat and getting to stay here. Poppy wasn't sure about all these rules that the universe had, though supposed a Goddess would know them better. Makes her wonder if they were the same in Flora. Not like they could simply call up a God from there to ask about it for a bunch of reasons.
Then the opossum witnessed a small argument between Blaze and Sol. Kinda reminds her of when she argued with her mum after she started dating Renard. Regardless her small trip down memory lane was cut short at the choice, making her blush.
"Oh, geez, that's a big choice right there. N-Not that I don't like ya Blaze. You're strong, really nice, and I do think ya pretty. Just kinda sudden, ya know? Not that I'm saying no. Honestly, I wouldn't mind marrying someone like you." Poppy's mind was all over the place from now having this choice. "Though do the rules apply to me since opossum's don't have a Tree of Life anymore?" Maybe she should've brought that up a bit sooner along with giving some more context.
"So, um, the Opossum Goddess Delphi kinda took all the magic she gave to the Opossum Tree of Life to, eh, push all the other Gods away and cut mortals off from them?" Oh boy, that sounded extremely bad saying it out loud. "N-Not sure why, only stories to go off of. Anyway, that's why opossum's can't use magic and have anti-magic." Hopefully she didn't blow her chance.
"Why don't that ask the Keeper of Rules from our world mom?" Lily asked, making Poppy look down at her daughter. "In school they taught me that there was a whistle that summoned them, and that the feline royal has it. Can't Ms. Blaze go ask for it?"
"That's not a bad idea, though sounds like it could take a while to sort out." Poppy wasn't sure how much time they had with how long they've been here already. "I'm gonna say yes to marrying you Blaze, though we could also have someone check on this whistle thing." Guess Poppy was now engaged to Blaze. What a turn of events.

Revolution Française, Musée d'Orsay, et La Tour Eiffel
The beginning of Week 2 kicked off with a very topical lesson and walking tour focusing on the French Revolution. With Bastille Day looming in a few days, it was cool to go in depth into the buildup to one of history's biggest events, as well as witness the sites, or lack there of, in person. I think the way the French Revolution is commemorated in Paris is very unique, as certain sites are completely destroyed and only demarcated, despite their more pressing historical significance than others that are preserved. It is quite different from the US where you can do a Revolution tour in multiple places and be flooded with tons of historic buildings that romanticize the revolution. After a tour of the Conciergerie, we made our way along the Quais and to Shakespeare and Co. for some Hemingway Hunt stops, before a trip to the Paris 2024 store at the Carousel du Louvre. We then concluded an easy Monday with reading in the Tuileries and a nice dinner in front of the Pantheon.
Tuesday began early along the Seine for an appointment with the Impressionists at Musée d'Orsay. The art, as well as building, was spectacular; however, it is not nearly the right size to house the demand that it receives. I was a big fan of the Neo-Impressionists and their use of what equated to small dots to paint a bigger picture that was still true to reality. As the movement moves towards more surreal elements in the post-impressionist era, I tend to stray away from my adoration. However, the big bucks of the museum lies in the core Impressionists, where I had mixed feelings. I think the style is wonderful for landscapes and depictions of multiple people, however, I was not a fan of the portraits or close-up group paintings that did not do the style justice in my opinion. I also was not a fan at all of Renoir and was quite surprised with how much his work disgusted me in comparison to the other masterpieces surrounding me. Outside of the paintings, Rodin's Gates of Hell was quite stunning to see and I think it was one of my favorite masterpieces. I also quite enjoyed Monet's work on display, choosing one of his works for my monologue. I hope to make it to L'Orangerie to see the famous Water Lillies before my time in Paris ends.
We ended the night with an excursion to the Eiffel Tower, bringing a picnic with us to sit and enjoy the Parisian evening. I did not think I would be impressed with such a tourist trap as the Eiffel Tower, but the pure power that the image and symbol of the structure carries is too much to overcome when you are at its feet. It was absolutely beuatiful and you could not have asked for a better night. Once the lights came on, the allure made all the more sense. It was magical and I am happy that I could cross it off of the bucket list.

P.G. Six — Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites (Amish)
Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites by P.G. Six
Lately, you’re likely to hear PG Six’s Pat Gubler shading Garcia Peoples’ guitar sprawl with folky modal melodies or wigging out alongside New England psych mainstay Matt Valentine in Wet Tuna or beefing up an already guitar-centric sound in acid folk’s Weeping Bong Band. But before all that, he, along with Valentine, did a lot to invent the whole freak folk genre in Tower Recordings. This debut solo album, originally recorded in 2001 and expanded with eight live and unreleased tracks, comes just after that and continues on from there. Its lysergic takes on ancient tunes make you realize just how freaky the folk genre is, even before you start to fool with it.
Gubler accompanied himself in a range of stringed and keyboarded instruments, some familiar, some not, as well as a mystic flute. His main partner for this disc was Tim Barnes, a drummer who has collaborated with rock and experimental artists including Tony Conrad, Ikue Mori, Sonic Youth, Jim O'Rourke and Jeph Jerman.
The original disc opens and closes with versions of “Letter to Lilli St. Cyr,” one in flute, the other in a reedy, staticky keyboard and the overtone haunted strumming of something like a dulcimer. The sounds are traditional but stretched and distorted into stranger shapes. The traditional song, “When I Was a Young Man,” gets this treatment, too, starting in a ren faire lilt of folky flute and sunlit guitar, a patter of hand drums moving its stately rhythm. Not only elapses, however, before a fuzzed electric shoulders into view, putting buzz and friction under this melancholy frolic. The song ends in a tug of war between its folk and psychedelic forces, with splintered distortions of electric guitar winning out in the end.
That latter song is one of the more well-behaved and gentle cuts from this original collection. The longer cuts push further into alchemical amalgamations of folk and free-rock jam. “Go Your Way,” an Annie Briggs cover and the album’s clear centerpiece, changes shapes like a wizard sloughing off forms. Its radiant picked purity giving way to fluttery sung melody slapped into motion by north African desert rhythms. It dissolves, late in the cut, into pure tone and timber, the sawing dissonance of stringed instruments smoldering, throwing off sudden bright sparks.
“Go Your Way” comes up again in the extra tracks, via a sparer, less free-ranging acoustic version performed at the Dwars Festival in Amsterdam. “When I Was a Young Man” also gets a second look, this time from a radio performance on New York’s WNYU, and an alternate take of “Divine Invasion” was recorded live at the Flywheel in Easthampton; I’m pretty sure I was there. These extra tracks are, to a one, warm and unfussy and assured, Gubler’s clear, unhurried voice drifting over complex webs of crystalline picking.
This expanded version of Parlor Tricks documents a free-wheeling turn-of-the-century scene in which New Weird America was just getting started. Hippie enclaves in California and rural New England had got to wondering, what if you took old British tunes and chords and got them really, really high? The answer was surprisingly wonderful, an art with roots in the past and heads in the clouds, and P.G. Six was as good as anyone at it. Parlor tricks, indeed! This stuff is magic.
