one thing i love about chuuya's character is not only his loyalty, but that of others to him.

in the sheep, he was relied on but not fully trusted as leader. it was a job he had to take for no one else could.

in the port mafia, meanwhile, he didn't have to rise the ranks as he did. he need not be relied on but the members trust him, would follow him as leader should mori die.

the sheep were wary of him for good reason, but never had to be. the port mafia doesn't have to trust him as they do but choose to.

AU where Dazai and Chuuya both escape the lab together and grow up on the streets together

Dazai would be a menace in the Sheep, but just as Chuuya ended up having leadership responsibilities shoved off onto him, a makeshift hierarchy would form and Dazai would just kinda...naturally fall in line with being his righthand man in the sense of decision making because while he might not be the best at self-preservation and street smarts, he knows his way around the underworld a little too much

But also skk being in survival mode 24/7 because they're just constantly waiting for something bad to happen as they're plagued by nightmares of the lab again and the awful things they endured—but Chuuya's not alone in his suffering. They have each other. And Dazai would quite literally kill for him and steal the clothes off the back of some drunk dude if asked to

They make little campfires in the dead of winter and huddle by the flames to tell funny, lighthearted stories of being on the streets: Chuuya found a cat colony recently, while Dazai sneaked into an illegal gambling den and robbed a mafia agent of their money (and may or may not have made a target out of himself for swindling)

Dazai thinks it's hilarious because he has more money than he knows what to do with now (and offers to buy Chuuya some things like gloves and a hat and thicker coat) and Chuuya just looks at him in disbelief like he's an idiot.

The sheep betrayal makes me so fucking emo cause its like, there's a bunch of little homeless kids who help out a fellow kid, no questions asked, only to find out that kid is a powerhouse and he's agreed to tag along and he protects you but instead of feeling protected you get scared of him and the idea that one day he might realize his potential and leave you to fend for yourself once again. And you've seen his power so you know if he ever uses it against you its over. So you do anything you can to make sure that never happens. On the other hand there's chuuya who fights for these kids with his life and thinks of them as family and he's so emotionally attached that even after the betrayal there's no question in his mind about whether to continue to protect the sheep or not. He just does.

Brother Dazai X Reader X Chuuya

Why Him?

YOUR POV:

I’ve been in the port mafia since I was 12 I’m a nurse but I have an ability. You see my ability was creation my ability gives me the power to create any non-living material/object from my exposed skin by transforming the molecular structure of my body fat cells and turning it into something. It comes in handy I guess. But I’ve always found it useless. So I love being a nurse for the Port Mafia. However Mr.Mori appreciates it cause I can create replacements of certain valuables and usually by the time people find out it’s a fake it’s too late. I’ve hated my ability cause it always makes me hungry. I eat up to 10 meals a day when I use my ability. Today was one of those days. I had used it to make new communication devices. When me and my brother were summoned to the boss Dazai carried me into the room as I was exhausted. Mori said “Ah, Dazai,  (Y/n)  there’s someone I want you to meet. Chuuya Nakahara. He is the leader of the sheep.” Dazai said “you’re the punk kid from earlier! Very short!” Chuuya said “I’m still growing! And I’m not the leader of the sheep I just have a good card up my sleeve.” As they bickered I asked “Mr.Mori, with all do respect I don’t understand why I’m here. I’m useless. So why am I here.” Ougai replied “you are very useful. Now Dazai and Chuuya you too are going to go on a little mission. (Y/n) please step out your job is separate.” I bowed “yes master.”

Time Skip

When I was summoned by Mr Mori I passed my brother and gave him a hug “be safe and careful brother. I love you.” Dazai smiled and patted my head “you should know by now that no one stands against me.” I smiled “I know” I turned to Chuuya “thank you please look out for each other. Chuuya thank you for your service even if you didn’t have a choice.” I bowed and walked in. Mori said “I would like you to be close by with your tools. Just in case. I have a feeling once the sheep find out they might attack Chuuya. So then he’d join the port.” I nodded “as you wish boss.” He smiled “very well you may be excused.” I then made my way out and waited for my brother’s safe return.

Time Skip

As I went to the spot I was told to meet my brother I watch Chuuya was stabbed and I saw him hiding on the ledge near water. I was with my brother now and Chuuya said “don’t kill the children.” Dazai smirked “as we discussed the children will remained unharmed.” Chuuya huffed as he mumbled “bastard planned it” as my brother and the men left I went over to Chuuya. “What do you want?” He barked and I said “let me help you please.” He mumbled “fine.” So I got to work I brought out my medical box and put gloves on. I removed his jacket and shirt then I removed the knife slowly and put it in a bag. I pulled out some needles and said “these may hurt a bit but it’s going to remove the poison.” As I gave him the shot I bandaged him up. “Here I hope this helps.” I then grabbed a blanket and draped it around him. “To keep you covered I’ll clean your clothes. Now please follow me.” As I got into the limo with him he said “are you really related to that suicidal maniac?” I giggled “oh you mean my brother Dazai. Ya… I know he is a handful but I appreciate you looking out for him!” I said with a smile. Since that day we formed a relationship.

Time Skip

A year later we became boyfriend and girlfriend. However, my brother wasn’t to pleased when I told him he said “why?!?! Oh why?! (Y/n)! Why did you pick Chuuya?! Why him?!” I giggled “love works in mysterious ways” I said with a smile. Dazai said “you know there are taller and more better looking guys out there right?” As he said that Chuuya overheard and like usual they argued

Chuuya-at least I’m not a suicidal manic!

Dazai-at least I’m tall!

Chuuya-I’m still growing!

Dazai-really how much? Half a centimeter?

Chuuya-why you!

Dazai smirked and said “nuh uh uh! Your my dog Chuuya you must respect me after all you lost!” I sighed and shook my head. ‘I wish they could get along.’

Time Skip (in armed detective agency)

I was sound asleep when I heard my brother “we got to go.” Was all he said. I asked “but Chuuya!” Dazai said “we are leaving forget about him you deserve better.” That was YEARS AGO. I miss Chuuya but I know brother did what was best. But now we were in a crazy scenario and it all evolved around a man named Fydor. People where turning into vampires and dying it was scary. However, I was forced to watch from sidelines. When I saw Chuuya tears filled my eyes. He is a vampire! I was shocked I went to the roof as I watched Dazai get the antidote to get the poison out of his body he then said “I had a card up my sleeve. You can come out now!” I looked and saw Chuuya he took off the contacts and said “so what now?” I was frozen the man I love was in front of me. As I blocked out everything just staring at Chuuya I heard him say “damn! These fangs won’t come out!” I giggled and went over to him. “Let me help.” I mumbled as I grabbed something to help them slip out. “There!” I said with a smile. Then Dazai and Nikolai talked with Chuuya I stayed quiet. ‘Just like the old days back in the port.my brother and boyfriend kicking butt while I’m a nurse on scene. I missed it.’ I thought.

Time Skip

Things seemed at peace and I felt happy but I had some sadness ‘I should’ve tried to talk to him more’ then I heard a voice “so you’re still alive.” I saw Chuuya and I said “ya why?” Chuuya said “that’s what Dazai told me during the battle of the guild. But I knew you wouldn’t have died so easily.” He walked closer to me and pinned me against the wall. “Now you owe me for all the time I spent looking for you.” He said as he gave me a kiss I sunk in then I heard my brother. “NO!!!! (Y/n)!!!! Why?!?! I tried to get you to go with Kunikida! I should’ve tried harder! Why Chuuya?!” I smiled and looked at Chuuya then grabbed his hand “Dazai dear brother. You can try to set me up with someone else but it won’t work. I love Chuuya and only him.”

The Sheep King and his Demon AU

Aka Bsd except Chuuya doesn't join the Port Mafia.

The Sheep never betray Chuuya. In fact they are basically one big dysfunctional and loving family.

Chuuya still goes on the search for Arahabaki and meets Dazai. But the Sheep trust him, their wary of Dazai but not Chuuya.

As time goes on, the Sheep warm up to Dazai and basically adopt him like a stray cat. Chuuya and Dazai get together, the Sheep tease them relentlessly for it.

Just a silly lil AU on their antics and Soukoko being Soukoko even though Chuuya remains King of the Sheep.

Agency informant Izaya

Izaya Orihara from Durarara in the world of Bungou Stray Dogs. However this Izaya is quite different, essentially everything in Durarara still happened.

The final fight with Shizuo and the brutal humbling reminder that Izaya was still very much human.

This is an Izaya who has changed, who tries every day to be a better person than who he was.

He came to Yokohama because he was curious if the famous Demon Prodigy was in fact a Demon. And ended up with a whole new life.

He learned to let people in, he learned how to love people. And became the human Shinra always said he could be.

No one from Durarara shows up because Izaya has erased all evidence of him online. He has left Ikebukuro behind and will never return.

Izaya is like Katai in the way he's not technically a member of the Agency but he's still with the Agency. The Agency adore him, Dazai is basically his little brother at this point.

Sometimes Izaya wonders if he deserves this, but he's thankful anyway.

Izaya's firecely protective over them all, and helps out when shit goes down. Usually from behind the scenes.

He has an ability, Sunsets Last Applause, that functions like Ango's except it works through looking at people rather than touching objects.

An AU that takes place across different moments and arcs in canon, either about Izaya or he's in someway involved.

The Port Mafia brothers AU

Aka Bsd except Akutugawa and Dazai have a good sibling relationship

Basically that.

Dazai finds Akutugawa and recruits him into the Port Mafia. What Dazai didn't expect was for Mori to put him in charge of Akutugawa.

Dazai freaks out, because he's in no way equipped to raise a child (child in question is 2 years younger than him.)

The reason Dazai freaks out is because he wants to do right by Akutugawa. He saw a scared kid and wanted to help him, but he doesn't know what to do.

Oda is there to give him advice and reassure him that he'll be fine. That Akutugawa will have to learn to stand on his own two feet in this organisation.

You need to guide him, be a helping hand. Dazai doesn't abuse Akutugawa in this, at all.

In the Port Mafia, Akutugawa is basically Dazai's shadow. He's silent, he's never far from him and almost treated like the furniture, a bodyguard.

For his own protection, no one can know their true relationship especially Mori.

Outside of the Port Mafia Akutugawa is Dazai's silly, bitchy little brother and Dazai is his dramatic, dumbass older brother. Their idiots and they love each other.

Silly lil AU that's basically Dazai and Akutugawa's antics, along with Gin. And Oda keeping an eye on them with Ango.

Moonlit Butterfly

When Atsushi's ability manifested, the Orphanage called the Special Division of Unusual Powers to take him away.

They were fascinated by his ability, see they wanted to start the Hunting Dogs programme. But they didn't have proof a human could survive the procedures.

Hence, where Atsushi came in as their lab rat.

However at some point, Fukuchi learned of him and said such a strong ability couldn't just be wasted like this.

So along side being a lab rat, now Atsushi was being trained by Fukuchi. And let's just say Fukuchi was not a kind instructor. No one treated Atsushi like he was human.

The great war came and Atsushi, now 10 years old was deployed as a soilder. Which is where he met the other kid in his regiment, 11 year old Yosano Akiko.

Yosano had been working at a sweets shop just last week, but was persuaded by Doctor Mori to join the war effort. He told her she could save lives with her ability, and she wanted too.

Neither really knew what they'd signed up for, though it wasn't like either had a choice.

Yosano is the first person to show Atsushi kindness, the first to treat him like a human. Both of them have a sibling relationship and everyone else in the regiment keeps their distance.

They love Yosano one moment and than hate the next as their angel of death. And Atsushi is deemed a demon simply for existing.

Well, not everyone thinks that. The only person outside of the duo who are kind to them is Shunzen Tachihara.

He's an older sibling to them. Yosano and Atsushi remind him of his little brother and Shunzen's always there to let them have those little pockets of ease and joy during the war.

(Entire regiment: that's an angel/Demon

Shunzen Tachihara: Those are children, leave them alone!)

AU is basically the embodiment of the universe bought them together, ripped them apart and somewhere along the way they found each other again.

Because Shunzen... Meets his canon fate, Yosano and Atsushi are seperated after the war. Yosano to the psychiatric hospital, Atsushi back to the lab.

But with the efforts of one Genuis Detective they are bought back together again.

And if I can figure out a plot, this one might become an actual fic. Mostly centers on them in the war but does include afterwards.

The Wary Weretiger

The Orphanage never let Atsushi forget who he was. Atsushi remembers killing Shibusawa and was told about why he came.

Shibusawa wanted the tiger, most people want the tiger. Atsushi doesn't really know why, just that it's unique the tiger and because of the power it holds.

The Headmaster really told Atsushi almost everything. The man was many things but a liar wasn't one of them.

He taught Atsushi that the only one you can trust is yourself and Atsushi took that seriously. The only being Atsushi trusts other than himself is the tiger.

The tiger and Atsushi are close, they are the only one each other have. Because of that Atsushi has better control but not completely.

Atsushi doesn't trust anyone else. Every adult in his life has let him down, has tortured and abuse him.

He runs away from the Orphanage and lives on the streets.

He knows the Guild are after him, he's met Fitzgerald and knows about Fyodor. Atsushi has even met Doctor Mori, who was an old friend of the Headmaster and curious about his ability.

So when Atsushi gets asked to join the Agency, he refuses. Because he believes they just want his ability. They did start the whole thing by searching for the tiger, so... Fair assumption.

And while, true the fact the rampaging tiger is actually a homeless teenager definitely shifts everyone's priorities.

They work to build up trust with Atsushi, wanting to show they truly want to help him.

But Atsushi doesn't want their help, he's gotten this far on his own. He's been hunted his whole life, known pain as a constant companion.

He doesn't know what to do in the face of genuine kindness.

Unfortunately the threat will continue to grow and Atsushi will end up having to ally with the tiger.

He's smart, cold and has a short temper. But underneath it all he's just a kid that wants a home.

The Agency swear they'll give him one, one day.

I have an idea then I thought about at like 3 AM 

Imagine if the demon prodigy fem Dazai took in an 8 year old Kenji into the port mafia and than took Kenji with her when she left the mafia.

The mud slide happened way earlier and instead of Fukuzawa finding Kenji Dazai dose.

And no one in the port Mafia even knows where the blonde child came from or why it’s following their demon prodigy. Not even Mori.

And everyone is too scared to even ask.

kinda wild to me that one of the most compelling aspects of both Chuuya and Kunikida's characters to me, that I never really see talked about, is how they're heavily set on a doomed crash course towards complete and utter destruction, and how I am so, so worried for them both.....

so where is chuuya on the hound-mutt scale? i’m leaning to hound

TEEHEEEE chuuya is VERY hound. im sort of insane abt the similarity of test subject/purebred dog (caused me to go insane and write a whole fic.), where both are Created for some purpose. obviously chuuya in the lab is made to hold arahabaki, he is created to be a weapon. very much like the process of breeding a dog for size or strength or speed, the test subject is honed by human hands into a creation that serves.

so he is initially, under N, made into the hound. then after this, his whole relationship with the sheep is built around him being something useful. hes the king of the sheep but hes in service to them - which is where we come to the second very explicit Purebred hound thing: he's a sheepdog. herding them for their protection, chasing off anything that threatens them. and hes loved by the herd as long as he does his duty. they celebrate his violence and his power because it protects them, celebrate his quick thinking because its done for them, but when he uses these skills of his for himself, he becomes a threat. a flock does not want its hound to threaten them, and the owner has no use for it when it does, so the owner shoots. or: shirase stabs him.

then you also have the fun extra that many purebred dogs are prone to short lifespans bc they have unnatural human-created genetic problems which can very well lead to their deaths (think of anything puglike with their squished faces and respiratory problems bc theyre bred to be cute), so there is a requirement for their lives to be supplemented by yet more human aid (medication, surgeries, other treatments) and chuuya is created to utilise the singularity - something that will kill him unless he is restrained.

so yes! chuuya is the epitome of the hound side of the dog motif spectrum!!
