This video by StopMeOh which analyzes Caitlyn’s final look mentioned something i hadn’t noticed!! which is that Cait does not sleep with Maddie in her own bedroom! She sleeps with her in what appears to be a guest bedroom.

A lot of people interpreted Cait’s look when Maddie turns on her as betrayal, but let’s face it, Cait never really trusted Maddie. She never really let her in -literally did not let her into her bedroom, which she did with Vi when she barely knew her.

4am arcane hemospectrum headcanons. listen to me closely now, and feel free to give me some suggestions and inputs if u so desire.

Vi and Jinx: rustbloods. it would make sense for them to be the lowest land dwelling class, members of the rust caste are also known for being prone to adventures and frankly, violence.

Isha: bronzeblood. she is warm hearted, kind, yet capable of Kicking Total Ass in a display of Radicalicious Badassery. her bunny ears, the bugs… bronzes do enjoy animal companions.

Ekko: goldblood. the genius, innovative mind he has, oh ekko my boy. your heart is golden and so is the blood rushing through your alien veins. goldbloods are intelligent and snarky, standing their ground. like my boy.

Sevika: oliveblood. she is just. so cool and awesome. shes so metal shes so totes punkrock im gonna scream. olives are strong, loyal people. also ive read they are associated with luck, which points to her gambling addiction.

Caitlyn: purpleblood. the highest land dwelling caste. they slaughter and subjuggulate lowbloods, slaughtering and oppressing them. may be a bit on the nose, yes, but it fits the kirammans so well in my eyes. come on people, draw her in juggalo paint.

Maddie: violetblood disguised as an indigo. she would be masking her caste to infiltrate the land dwellers. also i think it would be humorous to imagine her hiding her gills. also violets are so sleazy, eccentric, lowkey manic.. she probably has malformed horns, which makes her guising process a little easier. god i love her please

Mel and Ambessa: fuchsiabloods. the highest of them all, holding power over the rest. in my mind, all noxians would be sea dwellers. they have so many responsibilities to attend to, the weight of the world on their shoulders.. mel wishing to stop the violence, the brutality. ambessa being a warlord, dependent on those feats to bring glory to her people and do what she thinks is right. listen.

In literary/cinema mediums, when a character extends their hand in friendship while hiding their other hand behind their back, that can actually symbolize tension between trust and betrayal

The hidden hand means the character is hiding something, literally or metaphorically. A weapon, a scheme, an ulterior motive. It signifies that their friendship is likely a trap

TLDR Maddie was always hiding something and the writers hinted at it the whole time

Arcane is a masterclass in body language and how to properly use it in storytelling to get your message to your audience without thunking them over the head/spoon feeding it them.

Caitlyn's relationship to Vi vs her relationship to others is a great example.

Caitlyn is almost always trying to create less distance between Vi and her or "fill the gap" between them:

After Vi ditches Cait in the brothel to jump Sevika, Cait seeks her out and saves her from Sevika

When she gives Vi the medicine for stab wound, they're breathing each other's air

She reaches across the space between them on her bed to caress Vi's face

She chases after Vi following the Council meeting not going their way

Fairly certain, she was going to go look for Vi after her shower if Jinx hadn't kidnapped her

She seeks out Vi after her dad, more or less, says he doesn't want Vi in their house. Not to kick her out but to find some comfort in being close to her (i think this is why she pushed so hard for her to be an enforcer, to keep her close)

Cait also does a fair share of looking at Vi's lips, slightly leaning in, and second guessing herself all within a span of a blink

Vi asks Cait not to change (she already has), so she closes the gap between them, and they share their first kiss as a form of reassurance

She takes down Vi mongoose style and again starts closing the gap between them by betraying Ambessa and helping Vander

Cait slightly/momentarily leans towards Vi's lips when she's pulling the bag over her head

Vi spits in her face and wipes it TOWARDS HER MOUTH and not away

After Jayce shoots Viktor and Ambessa attacks, Caitlyn has ample opportunity to go after Jinx, but she focuses on Vi and covering her back until she gets sliced across the abdomen and then she runs to her to help her to her feet

Now let's look at how Caitlyn creates gaps and space with Maddie even tho they're sleeping together:

Beginning of episode 4, while they're sitting in bed, Maddie tries to close the gap and create some intimacy. Caitlyn, in turn, leans away from her, creating space between them

Maddie is also the one trying to initiate/create emotional intimacy, and Caitlyn swerves her each time

Maddie kisses/nuzzles Caitlyn's neck, and in response, Caitlyn has the quickest expression of "eugh" before fixing her face and moving away from Maddie

Instead of leaning into the intimacy Maddie is trying to give her, Caitlyn gets up to work on something and says she'll come to bed soon

Caitlyn lets Ambessa dismiss Maddie from the room after (more than likely) overhearing the discussion about restarting the council (I really think if this were Vi, Caitlyn would've pulled rank and told her to stay)

Maddie is also very absent from the rest of s2p2, and given how we've seen Caitlyn actively seek out Vi in her absence, she honestly doesn't seem to care where Maddie is or how she's doing

And none of this is explicitly told to the audience thru dialog. All thru body language. And i just think that's really neat

Caitlyn and Maddie: It Just Makes Sense

For Caitlyn, Maddie is like alcohol and fighting are for Vi. It's a way to feel good in the moment, but with a massive hangover afterward. They hurt themselves because they're not together.

On one side, we have Vi, who has probably never been intimate with anyone, finding refuge in fighting and alcohol—familiar yet self-destructive habits. On the other side, there's Caitlyn, who can't really rely on alcohol as an escape because she values staying in control and has a strong sense of duty, which prevents her from being anything other than what’s expected of her. Her escape, however, is sex—something easy to obtain, offering a fleeting moment of pleasure, much like alcohol.

Maddie, in this sense, is just a good bottle of wine for Caitlyn. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t respect Maddie—it’s clear she does. We know Caitlyn had flings before meeting Vi; she's beautiful, and people are likely drawn to her, so she probably gets courted often. She doesn’t seem shy in that area either. Caitlyn is experienced in seducing women, as we saw in the brothel. She may have even used her flings to irritate her mother, possibly bringing women into her room just to provoke her. And this idea was also hinted at through that tweet by Amanda Overton, one of the writers of Arcane.

So it makes sense that she would sleep with Maddie, who is the perfect person to help her cope in the moment.
