René Lalique "Grenouille" Necklace
Composed of 18K gold, glass, enamel and diamonds, this René Lalique frog and ivy flower necklace dates from circa 1902-1903. It is designed as a series of 11 molded green glass frogs joined by stylized green champlevé enamel ivy vines highlighted by diamond flowers.
An heirloom passed down in the Lalique family, this unique and mysterious necklace, one of his early experiments in glass, links Lalique to the work of subversive artists working in literature, poetry and dance in fin-de-siècle Paris.
Dimensions: 17.5" length, 1" width. Materials: 132 old mine-cut diamonds (with approximate total weight 2.64 carats); 11 carved glass; 18K Gold.

Inside Ashley Olsen's Life — and Closet!
When Ashley Olsen crafts an image for herself, she nails it, every time.
Working closely with the MC fashion team and stylist Leslie Fremar on our cover shoot, Ashley brought to life her vision of a light and airy yet intimate portrait—a sweet escape from dark economic times. Antiqued silk and lace lingerie were a nod to the 1930s, while nubby sweaters kept the looks grounded in modernity. Vintage-inspired jewelry and a simple, understated color palette were in keeping with the rule of the day: Less is more.

My 5 written excerpts from the AUT Library:
Below are my 5 written excerpts that I have found and analysed in relation to my current research.
The Creative Revolution, 2021, Dhaneshwar Shah, https://bit.ly/35avwag:
Gives multiple insights to different design philosophies, including but not limited too; the introduction and popularisation of pop art, targeting advertising that was made to pop and catch eyes, and the structure of the metropolis that is New York City.
I think that the relevance in this piece of literature is most prominent out of any of the 5 I've chosen as it goes into detail about pop art as well as Andy Warhol. Pop art kickstarted an entire industry of design that is still popular today and therefore the name of the literature makes sense when taking this theory in mind.
The Woman: Tops in Art, 1960, Amy Von Lintel, Bonnie Ross, https://bit.ly/3D8JDcv:
This piece of literature is about the commercialisation of woman's art in the mainstream art galleries. Gallery owner Dord Fitz worked intentionally to popularise & gain public recognition of woman's art working in mid-century expressionism. Which at the time was a saturated style of art however still caught the attention of onlookers, especially at the niche of Fitz's gallery. The relation this has to my previous research is in my societal mood-board.
Art and Urban Regeneration in New York City, 2021, María F. Carrascal Pérez, https://bit.ly/3qwjYWa:
This piece of literature covers the work of Doris C. Freedman. In the late 1960s, both financial crisis' had happened as well as the stress all over the world from the Cold War. Doris saw an opportunity to form and create innovative art programs that recycled the desolate/dirty city while also integrating local (minority) communities in the process. During a time of segregation and the fight against it, Doris did her part to make the lives of people more fun, calmed and collected.
THE ART OF DIVORCE, 2021, Katya Katakina, https://bit.ly/3Lab9t1:
This piece of writing serves as more of a reality check than anything, in regards to how the law in America serves still today. Documenting Harry Macklowe and the divorce of his wife Linda, that was forced to split art assets worth (and sold) for millions of USD. The question remains whether love had anything to do with the relationship or whether the relationship was purely for financial benefit. During the time of the Cold War, inflation slowly crept higher and higher each year the stand off went on - one way of keeping a large amount of liquid assets was to hold onto art and that is the primary subject of this story.
STATES OF MIND, 2021, Tali Roth, https://bit.ly/3uo15Ga
This last piece of literature is abstract in the sense that the artist (Tali Roth) is bringing the interior design of New York living to her home in Australia. Giving purpose to the name of the piece of writing and therefore making sense that the state of her mind is benefitted by bringing that piece of New York with her. An interesting part I found is that she didn't bother with a brief but rather let her heart and mind guide her on what best served her. Her style is described as "energetic, uninhibited and gloriously fun" which when put into the context of describing New York City is the same description.
Overall these pieces of literature enhanced my understanding of the research of my time period and I'm glad I went to such levels to find them!
Time for bed!
Ollie.

Sotheby’s Announces West Coast Expansion With New Beverly Hills Flagship Gallery Space
Public Opening 14 October with Highlights from The Macklowe Collection
New Street-Level Space Will Host Exhibitions of Celebrated Modern and Contemporary Artists, Designers, And Luxury Icons, in Addition to Fostering Links with Community Organizations
New York & Los Angeles, September 30 2021 – Building on Sotheby’s longtime presence in Los Angeles over the last four decades, Sotheby’s is pleased to announce the opening of the company’s first public exhibition space on the West Coast with a new, expanded footprint in the heart of Beverly Hills.
Opening to the public on 14 October and located at 350 N Camden Drive, the flagship street-level gallery space will be inaugurated with an exhibition of select works from the Macklowe Collection running until 17 October, spotlighting nine of the most significant works from an unparalleled collection of modern and contemporary art making its worldwide tour before a dedicated auction on 15 November in New York. Following the inaugural exhibition, Sotheby’s Los Angeles will host rotating presentations of luxury, design, jewelry & watches, and fine art, including bespoke exhibition programming specialized to the Beverly Hills location, providing Sotheby’s with new opportunities to reach a broader audience and showcase the best in fine art and luxury.
Mari-Claudia Jiménez, Sotheby’s Chairman, Managing Director and Worldwide Head of Business Development, Global Fine Art, said: “The West Coast has been an important market for Sotheby’s for decades, and reinforcing our footprint in Los Angeles is a critical element for continued success and growth in the region. As demonstrated with the immensely successful Palm Beach and East Hampton locations we opened in the U.S. last year, we’re committed to bolstering our presence in key markets and developing new ways to engage with clients directly in these regions.”
Located in the heart of Beverly Hills, the 1941 building housing the new space was designed by influential Southern Californian architects Douglas Hannold and George Vernon Russell, and is a rare example of pre-war modern architecture in the city. Within the 4,300 square foot building are flexible gallery spaces with 22’ ceilings, private viewing salons, and dedicated offices for Sotheby’s specialists and staff. Hosting regular public hours throughout the week, the new space facilitates a model where discovery of fine art and luxury objects is both convenient and centrally located. Items and artworks will be available for immediate purchase directly in the L.A. space via either Sotheby’s online Buy Now platform, or through private sale. Additionally, the expanded space allows Sotheby’s Los Angeles to invite local organizations and community partners to collaborate on arts education and non-profit programming, in addition to special events.
Peter Kloman, Head of Sotheby’s Los Angeles, stated: “An established destination for lovers of art, luxury, and culture in Southern California, Sotheby’s Los Angeles has long been a strategic center for the company. Years ago, our first space in the city was located in Beverly Hills, so the move to our new location is a long-awaited homecoming for us, and we are thrilled to be returning to such a vibrant and culturally rich community. We are looking forward to inviting collectors from Los Angeles, the West Coast, and all over the world to our new home.”
Highlights from the 65 works coming to auction this November from the Macklowe Collection that will be on view at Sotheby’s Los Angeles include landmark works by Franz Kline, Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, and Robert Rauschenberg, among others. The Macklowe Collection is one of the most important collections, of any kind, ever to come to the market. Each work from the collection is a consummate masterpiece in its own right; together they constitute an unrivalled ensemble that charts the highpoints of Western artistic achievement of the last 80 years. Acquired over the course of half a century, the collection is the fruit of decades of searching, honing, and refining, driven by immense patience and an innate understanding of quality. Separate press release available for more information on the Macklowe Collection.
Further programming details about Sotheby’s Los Angeles will be released in due course.

The most delicious summer berries, rendered in frosted rose quartz and ruby by Maison Verger Frères. Brothers Georges and Henri of Maison Verger Frères were hidden figures producing extraordinary Art Moderne work for the premier jewelers of Paris and New York. Not only did Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Boucheron count on Verger to realize their most challenging and imaginative designs, but they prized Georges’ stunning original creations, such as this bracelet.
