Album Review: Day 2
NPR Tiny Desk: Mac Miller - Mac Miller
★★★★★
Mac Miller's Tiny Desk concert is an absolute classic, it was the day it came out, and it has only gotten better with time. The mixing in these songs sounds gorgeous, especially for it being a live album, and its clear the sound engineer they had work this project out was a true master at his craft.
Mac's choice to add strings on "2009" is a great choice, the opening of that song never gets old, and once the piano chimes in I swear it feels like ascending. The Thundercat feature on "What's the Use?" is also a great choice, with him bringing the energy and emotion that track deserves.
Mac can never be replaced, and its a shame he passed not long after this concert, but in a way, that only makes the melancholy feel of songs like "Small Worlds" or "2009" hit even harder than it already does.
Absolute masterpiece of a concert, a moment, and an album.
