"I miss fucking you, dude." Rafe calls out suddenly from beside me after staring at the dark ceiling for ten minutes, bored out of his mind. I know my lack of movement, my lack of anything really, is really boring for him and I know taking care of me has taken a toll on him.

But oh my god he's getting so annoying.

"Dude, shut the fuck up." I laugh, reaching out to whack his thigh as he rolls towards me, ignoring the movie that he put on the TV. He curls up next to me, eyelashes batting cutely at me in an attempt to woo me over.

"I'm just saying, you're completely bed bound, laying like a couch potato but still looking immaculate." He groans, reaching out to rub my hips soothingly, the massage healing an ache that I didn't know I had. "You're like a feast and I'm a starving man." He presses a kiss to my shoulder and I grin with a simple eyeroll.

"You're such a whore." I giggle but it only fuels him more, his face smushing into the pillow beneath him in an attempt to stifle his horniness. "Stop pouting."

"I crave you." He mumbles into the pillow, rutting his hips dramatically into the bed a few times for good, dramatic measure and I giggle, wanting nothing but to throw my head back in laughter but the brace stops me.

"And I crave peace and quiet and a boyfriend who'll wait on me hand and foot."

"I wait on you with every fiber in my being." He flirts, propping himself up on his elbow and looks down at me with a soft look, hand reaching up to soothe the crazy hair that tangles in front of my eyes. "A handy?" He asks and I laugh loudly and exasperatedly, shoving him away from me.

"No! Rafe! Stop, puppy dog eyes aren't going to work this time."

"Can I have a kiss?" He asks with a pout, leaning towards me as his eyes move in a triangular movement between my eyes and my lips. I pucker my lips, giving him a simple peck on the lips but he tuts. "Not that pussy shit, I want a real kiss. I brushed those teeth this morning, I know they're clean so no using the 'my breath stinks' excuse'."

"Fine, get over here." I pull him in, cupping his cheek, pressing my lips firmly against his and he lets out a sigh of relief, sinking into the way that our lips sink together, his lips guiding mine to part as the kiss deepens.

"I"m like a preteen- popping one just from kissing you." He mutters into the kiss and I close my eyes with a snort.

"You're such a dork."

Learning to be a New Yorker - Community

One major qualm I’ve always had about moving away from the South is moving away from people I know and am comfortable with. Sure, in my mind I knew of people who had moved to New York and were working here or there, but I always tended to imagine myself all alone surrounded by strangers if I ever were to move there. The most comforting part of our trip to New York was meeting with Mississippi State alumni (some I knew before, and others I met while we were there) and being assured that there are friendly faces everywhere. 

Aryn Phillips, a graduate of the School of Architecture, and I. Aryn and I met through a mutual friend when I was just a baby freshman. Time really flies. 

A blurry, sweaty picture of my friend Rachel Chalik and I. Rachel and I met this summer at Penland in a jewelry making workshop. She is such a talented jeweler and such a wonderful person. I’m so glad I got to have dinner with her while I was in the city! 

And of course I will always have my girls who I can drink wine with out of plastic cups with while soaking our sore, aching feet in the bathtub. 

Through the conversations and reassurances I had on this trip, I know that even if my besties can’t move to the city with me, it’s still going to be fantastic. In a city of 8.5 million people, there are friends all over the place.

Steven Grant/Marc Spector + Enemies to lovers and “Make me” 😏😏

BESTIE YOU CAME THROUGHHHHHH!!

"Marc, give me Steven right now- I can't stand to look at your face." I shove Marc away from me with a groan and he slip out of me, falling onto his back with an exasperated sigh.

"Steven can't come to the phone right now, if you'd like to leave a message- fuck, ow!" My hand connects with his forehead in a quick slap and he screeches, slipping off the bed while pulling a blanket around his waist, sending me daggers through his gaze.

"Shut up!" I groan, rolling over to shove my face into the pillow and I can hear Marc pacing around the loft, mumbling under his breath.

"Make me." He mutters with a deep groan, reaching out to pull my blanket off of me as my head whips around so I can glare at him with wide, hateful eyes.

"I want the nice, sweet, kind Steven- not you." I snap, pulling the blanket back from him, holding it tightly to my chest. "I can not deal with you right now." I fist my hair, taking a deep breath, wishing that this hookup would just be easy but he's so insufferable and I happen to be madly in love with his alter, unable to focus on my love for Steven when Marc is staring down at me.

"I thought you wanted to fuck-"

"I don't always just want to fuck. Steven's a better lover." Marc's face pales at my comment and his lips part in quiet shock and for a moment I think I genuinely hurt his feelings but he gives me a stern scoff and an eye roll.

"Jesus, fine." Marc sighs and moves towards the bathroom with a heavy, disappointed sigh. "Just give me a second okay?" He shuts the door without another word and I let myself take a moment to regroup, taking a deep breath and letting my eyes close as I breathe in Marc and Steve's mutual scents with a fond smile.

Moments later, Steven appears from behind the bathroom door with a hesitant smile on his lips, his eyes timidly trail over the naked expanse of my thighs.

"Aye love, everythin' alright? Marc said you were having a bit of an issue." He sighs with a smile, sitting down beside me on the bed, a hand reaching out to slip under the blanket to rest on my naked hip.

"I wanted you." I pull him down to me, lips slotting with mine simply as he grins against my lips.

"Yeah?" He asks, the question sending goosebumps down my spine and heat even lower as he slots between my thighs, lips skimming against the column of my throat as I whine breathily. "Was Marc mean to you, sweetheart?"

"So mean." My hips jut upwards, into his and he damn near falls on top of me with a moan, both of us taken off guard by my sudden need for stimulation, friction, anything.

"I'll take care'a you." He smiles softly, pulling away as his soft brown eyes sink into mine, hand reaching up to cup my jaw, thumb brushing against my lower lip. "Always."
