I’m writing this out for a mutual. @peaches2217, ignore the anons. I got you.
You’re gonna be hungry at the end of this. This is a pretty simple and filling recipe, and it always helps when I’m feeling bad. Short of driving over and making it for you myself, this is the best I can do. So without further ado…
Fideo For A Bad Day:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 box of vermicelli noodles. (Acceptable substitutes include: tiny shells, tiny elbow noodles, estrellitas (tiny stars), pastina, and alphabet noodles. I don’t care, as long as it’s small. I favor estrellitas.)
A neutral oil of your choice. I usually use vegetable
1/2 onion, diced (a teaspoon of onion powder is also acceptable, just use your best judgement)
8 cups of water or chicken broth
An 8 oz can of tomato sauce
A tsp of chicken bullion (or to taste. Skip this if you used chicken broth)
1 tsp of salt (or to taste)
1 tsp of chili powder
1 tsp cumin
Cilantro (optional)
Mexican blend cheese (also optional)
A protein of your choice (also optional. Rotisserie chicken is the easiest. If you have ground beef or turkey you feel like cooking, that works wonderfully. Just add some salt, pepper, and onion or onion powder to it, for seasoning.)
Cooking:
Get a pot. A BIG one. Big enough to hold at least 8 cups of liquid. (It’s more than you think it is.) Acquire a lid for the pot as well.
Coat the bottom of your pot in a neutral oil and put it on medium heat. Once it gets hot, dump your noodles in. Toast your noodles by stirring continuously until, ideally, they’re all golden brown. But this is a difficult step, so as long as they’re mostly a little toasty, you’re fine. (If they burn a bit, that’s fine too; Mama always said it adds flavor.)
Once the noodles are toasty, add your onions. Cook until softened. (Skip this step if you’re using onion powder.) (The water from the onions stops the noodles from toasting, Dad claims. So don’t add them until the noodles are to your desired toastiness.)
Once they’re soft, add your liquid. Mama always microwaves her water before dumping it in, just because having it hot speeds up the cooking time, but that’s not required. Just pour it in. Don’t stir yet.
Turn up the heat to a rolling boil.
Before you stir anything, add half the can of tomato sauce and all your spices. Now you may stir.
Taste. I don’t generally care for tomato, so I like my fideo to taste more like chicken bullion, so I usually add about a teaspoon or two more. However, the tomato adds richness to the soup, so I also usually add a little more of that too. Add these, as well as more salt, if your heart so desires.
(Edit: do be careful with the salt if you’re using normal sodium chicken broth. I usually use low sodium.)
By now your soup should be boiling. Turn it down to a simmer. If you like broth (I do), simmer for about 10-15 minutes. If you don’t, leave it cooking for a little longer with the lid off.
Meanwhile, stir occasionally—otherwise it WILL stick to the bottom of the pot. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Serve hot. Optionally, garnish with cilantro, protein of your choice, and cheese. (I LOVE adding cheese, it gets all melty and gooey when it’s fresh out of the pot like this. However, it’s optional: my severely milk allergic brother likes this recipe, too.)
Other optional additives we’ve tried include potato (add with the water), peas and carrots, and corn (unless frozen, add at the end).
And voila! Bad mood cured! This serves my family of four big eaters, and it makes a fair amount of leftovers for crappy days to come. (I’d give you lower proportions, but, uh, I’ve never tried to make less than that.)
Love you!!!

1,4, and 7 for the ask game? :0
1. favorite place in your country?
I haven't really been to a lot of places, so i'm gonna say it's probably this creek (i think?) outside of moscow. It's like one of those swamps/lakes you see videos of people faceplanting on, you know the ones? With the sinking wobbly ground. It's an environmentally protected area bc of the endangered moss that grows there, and also bc of the moss the water from the creek is safe to drink (once you boil it, of course).
People have built these wooden bridges by the edge of the water, so that people 1) don't fall through and 2) don't damage the moss. They gather volunteers regularly to patch them up.
The water level is probably less than a meter and a half, so if the day was warm, the water's gonna stay the same all throughout the night. Also, it's like stupidly foggy at night, it's fantastic.
My friends and i try to go camping there as often as possible during the summer. (We camp out outside of the protected area, of course). This year we celebrated kupala night twice (according to the old calendar and the new one), both times there, it was amazing. Oh, also, pretty much everyone swims naked there and no one bats an eye, so that's fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. favorite dish specific for your country?
I don't know if it's exclusively a russian dish, but we have this salad here that's traditional to make for the festive dinner on new year's (which is the national holiday here instead of christmas). It's called olivier salad and no two recipes are the same, so i'll just give the one i grew up with.
Take potatoes, carrots and eggs, boil them, chop them up into sorta kinda cubes. Add chopped pickles, peas and fresh apples (also cubes). Normally people add chopped sausage or some chicken but i don't eat meat rn, so i forgo it. Dump that all into a fuckoff huge pot, mix in ungodly amounts of mayonnaise, and you've got yourself a festive little treat.
Most people i've compared recipes with think that the apples part is deranged. I think it's the best ingredient.
7. three words from your native language that you like the most?
......oh god, these are all gonna be swears, aren't they.
1) Невъебический [nev'ebichesky]
Ok. So. "Не" is a prefix meaning "not"; "в" is a prefix meaning "into"; "еби" is from "ебать" which is "to fuck"; and the last part is like part suffix part ending that makes it an adjective in the active voice?? Ig?? (I'm specifying bc if i said невъебенный [nev'ebenny] it'd be in passive voice. Both of these words are extremely made up. But so are all the others, and these are my word blorbos.)
It basically means a fuckton, but, like, not specifically for quantity. It's just. "Insane" ig is a good translation. Like, you can say "and insane amount", but you can also say "an insane view", you know.
2) Подсолнух [podsolnooh]
Oh, look at that, not a swear!
Sunflower. "Под" - under; "сол" from "солнце", the sun.
They're my favorite flowers and i just like how soft and... kind? the word sounds. Also, fun fact, we planted them this year, they looked beautiful all summer, and now we have a harvest of sunflower seeds. Very yummy.
3) Наверстать [naverstat']
From an old measuring unit - "верста" (1066.8 meters, according to wikipedia). Means to make up for lost time, basically.
And an honorable mention to ливень [liven'] bc i'm out of slots, but couldn't get it out of my head. Means "downpour", from "литься" - "to spill/to flow".
For my linguist mutuals. I'm so so sorry. I don't know what the fuck i'm talking about. This was the best i could do <3

Dragon : do you collect anything?
Unicorn : were you a horse girl (gender neutral) growing up?
Dryad : have you ever had a garden? What did you grow?
Castle : Would you be a princess, a prince, or a knight? Explain why!
Wizard : if you could know one fact about every single one of your tumblr mutuals, what would you want to know?
ooo so many! thank you babes ♡♡
dragon: I collect... so many things. I love collecting paper/scraps to make little books and paper from, I have a ton of cat based objects, I have a lil earring collection, aaand some grosser collections of mine.. I have some teeth, a few bags of hair (I like to keep it when I cut it), and a jar of fingernails I collected for 3 years 😅 (I bite my nails compulsively lol)
unicorn: I wasn't, I'm lowkey scared of horses!
dryad: I had a small garden with my grandpa when I was in high school! very simple with tomatoes, zucchini, and squash. and my girl plants us a garden each spring 🥰 we always a few varieties of tomatoes (Cherokee purples are my favorite!), a few varieties of peppers, lettuce, snow peas, eggplant, squash, carrots, and this year we tried watermelon! we were planning on having a fall rotation this year but time caught up on us. we also grow marigolds/coneflowers along with our veggies :)
castle: hmm... maybe a knight? I'd much rather take care of people than be cared for! (but I'd actually be the court jester)
wizard: oh jeez.. this one is tough!! i love finding out about people so maybe just an obscure fact about their life? or a favorite memory of theirs that will always stay with them ♡♡

2. What's your top 5 songs at the moment and why?
OOOH okay okay... i think first i'm gonna go white ferarri, been on a bit of a frank ocean kick again lately and i just love that song by him. all the background vocals make it feel so atmospheric and between that and the melancholic lyrics, it feels like being hugged very gently in a cold room. in our lifetime by texas is also up there for sure; i forget what mutual put it on my dash a few weeks ago but i've loved it since. about by another michael bc. well. i envision music videos in my head. unholy ghosts by david keenan is just generally one of my favorite songs and i'm always surprised it hasn't gotten as much play as i think it has. lastly, desert scene by uncle chris, one of my current fave long songs. makes walking home feel like a movie.
6. Describe one of your favourite people.
kinda tall, but it's easy to forget that when you're around him for some reason? he's nearly 6ft but he has 5'6" energy. really funny, great sense of style. has been working on being more earnest w himself lately.
10. Share a recipe you love.
винигрет!! it's a russian beet/root vegetable salad. learned this my sophomore year of college because my professor brought some in for a lesson on food culture. i'm gonna put it below the cut, but it includes beets, white potatoes, carrots, pickles, white onions (optional), and dill (garnish). some people also put peas in it. served cold. i've made this for other people a ton of times and i always love it. it's my go-to meal-for-friend.
12. What's your favourite season and why?
i've said this before, but i think every time a new season comes around, i end up loving it just before it ends. i don't really like summer as a weather pattern, but by the time summer's ending, i realize i'm going to miss it, for example. but i think if i had to pick, i'd go winter. as long as i get snow, at least. i like bundling up, being chilly, coming in from the cold. lovely.
ok recipe time
винигрет - ingredients: beets (whole/raw or canned/boiled, not pickled), carrots (whole), white potatoes, white onions (optional but recommended), dill pickles, fresh dill (optional but recommended, NEVER dried), white vinegar, oil (optional). may add green peas.
wash and clean your veggies. don't bother peeling.
bring a large pot of water to a boil. if you bought your beets raw/whole, boil those first, as they'll take the longest time to do so. otherwise, start with the white potatoes.
while your beets are boiling, take this time to start chopping* your dill pickles and white onions. i personally don't think you can go overboard with pickles in this salad. i've used a whole jar to make a couple tupperwares of this before. as you chop, add your ingredients to a large mixing bowl.
once your beets/potatoes finish boiling, use a set of tongs to transfer them to a large bowl of cold water/icewater. the temperature shock will make the skin of the veggie very easy to remove. this is especially satisfying for the beets lol. canned boiled beets are way more convenient time-wise but i recommend boiling the beets yourself at least once because it's just so satisfying.
in the same pot, begin boiling your potatoes/carrots. meanwhile, chop* your beets/potatoes and combine them with your pickles and onions in the mixing bowl.
do the same for the carrots.
mix everything together. at this point, you can add white vinegar and oil to taste. fair warning, have a light hand with the oil, i've learned from experience that too much oil is WAAAAY way worse than too little, and frankly this salad is delicious with none at all too.
at this point you can add some fresh dill on top for added flavor, throw in some green peas if you'd like, then cover and throw in the fridge for a few hours/overnight. serve cold.
TL;DR, boil & chop up beets, white potatoes, and carrots. chop dill pickles and white onions. combine. add white vinegar and vegetable oil to taste. add green peas, fresh dill if desired. allow to chill.
notes: you can very much just eyeball the proportions, but i will say a few things. 1) you always need less potato than you think but boiling extra potatoes is never a bad thing because potatoes are a lovely little snack. 2) the beets are always going to be the star of the show, this is a beet salad. the end result should be mostly red. 3) you can never have enough pickles in this. like, to me the two non-negotiable ingredients in this are beets and pickles. not for nothing the whole flavor profile is dill. 4) white onions are optional and so is the oil but the white vinegar absolutely is not. trust. it doesn't take much either a tablespoon will bring you so far.
if you're nervous about getting the proportions right, just google винигрет and take the image results as references.
*russians can be very particular about the way you chop things for винигрет. good knife skills are everything if you want to impress with this. the idea essentially is to cube everything (fresh dill and white onions notwithstanding). to be honest, as long as everything is relatively the same size, it'll be just as good.
can be served by itself as a hardy salad, as a side dish, or with rye toast. lovely any time of the day. couldn't tell you how long it lasts in the fridge or whether it stands up to freezing (though i imagine it would) because whenever i make it, it always gets finished too quickly to say.

Best Companion Plants For Celery: Enhancing Growth and Flavor
Companion planting involves strategically placing plants near each other to benefit one another in various ways, from deterring pests to improving growth and flavor.
When it comes to celery (Apium graveolens), choosing the right companions can enhance its growth and overall health.
Celery, known for its crunchy stalks and distinctive flavor, benefits from companions that provide shade, deter pests, or improve soil conditions. Here’s a guide to some of the best companion plants for celery:
Tumblr media
1. Nasturtiums (Tropaeolum spp.)
Nasturtiums are excellent companions for celery due to their ability to repel pests like aphids, whiteflies, and beetles. Their trailing habit also helps provide shade to the celery plants, which prefer cooler soil temperatures.
Additionally, nasturtiums attract beneficial insects such as predatory beetles and parasitic wasps that further protect celery from pests.
2. Onions and Garlic (Allium spp.)
Onions and garlic are classic companions for many garden plants, including celery. They help deter pests like aphids, carrot flies, and spider mites, which can affect celery growth. Planting onions and garlic around celery can improve its flavor and also help in suppressing weeds when planted densely.
3. Beans and Peas (Legume spp.)
Beans and peas are nitrogen-fixing plants that enrich the soil with nitrogen, which is beneficial for celery’s growth.
Celery, being a heavy feeder, benefits from the increased nitrogen availability provided by legumes. Planting beans or peas near celery helps improve its nutrient uptake and overall vigor.
4. Lettuce (Lactuca sativa)
Lettuce makes a great companion for celery because it has shallow roots and grows well in the shade provided by taller celery plants.
This mutual shading helps keep the soil cool and moist, which celery prefers. Additionally, lettuce does not compete heavily with celery for nutrients, making them compatible planting partners.
5. Tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum)
Tomatoes and celery can be beneficial companions when planted strategically. Celery’s aromatic compounds may help repel pests that commonly affect tomatoes, such as aphids and whiteflies.
However, ensure tomatoes do not overshadow or compete excessively with celery for sunlight and nutrients.
6. Cabbage and Brassicas (Brassica spp.)
Certain brassicas like cabbage, kale, and broccoli can help deter pests that affect celery, such as cabbage worms and aphids. However, be mindful of spacing as these plants can grow large and may shade or compete with celery if planted too closely.
7. Herbs: Dill (Anethum graveolens) and Parsley (Petroselinum crispum)
Herbs like dill and parsley are beneficial companions for celery. Dill attracts beneficial insects like predatory wasps and pollinators, which can help control pests and improve overall garden health. Parsley, with its shallow roots, complements celery well and can enhance its flavor when grown nearby.
Tips for Successful Companion Planting with Celery:
Spacing: Ensure adequate spacing between companion plants and celery to avoid competition for nutrients and sunlight.
Soil Preparation: Celery prefers well-drained, fertile soil. Prepare the soil with compost or organic matter before planting to improve soil structure and nutrient availability.
Rotation: Avoid planting celery in the same location year after year to prevent soil-borne diseases and nutrient depletion. Rotate crops with unrelated plants to maintain soil health.
By choosing the right companions for your celery plants, you can create a thriving garden ecosystem that benefits all plants involved.
Experiment with different combinations based on your garden’s specific conditions and enjoy healthier, more flavorful celery and companion plants throughout the growing season.

ok, so as per my last post, here is my Saiki k soulmates theory/mechanic, which I think Aiura would explain to Saiki.
(Aiura explains how she is Saiki’s soulmate.)
In popular culture, soulmates are two individuals who are destined to be romantic partners, either by God or the universe.
The concept of soulmates is based off of the mechanic of fating, which is something that Aiura can see and measure as a clairvoyant psychic.
Popular culture describes platonic and romantic soulmates, but there’s no real difference in the way the mechanic works. Classmates, coworkers and colleagues of all sorts may be fated together. People who do not like or hate each other can be fated together. Best friends and romantic partners may be fated, of they may not be.
This is because the purpose of fating is to bring together two people who fit a particular role in one another’s life. This role does not exist to serve that person, but to balance out the social sphere on a macro level.
In relationships, it serves as a neutral factor- that is to say, fating itself neither encourages nor discourages romantic connections- indeed, fated partners run the gamut of human relationship types. There are no disadvantages to befriending or entering a romantic relationship with someone who you are not fated with.
The only advantage of relationships with fated pairings is a possible empathetic link, or a telepathic link (exclusive to psychics.) These are much less useful than they might sound.
Family usually are not fated, as they are already ‘thrown together’ so to speak, by definition. Therefore it is rare except in cases of long lost relatives. Most people who are fated together end up as friends or colleagues on civil terms.
There are four main categories of fating. One can be said to be:
Fated in tandem
two people with many similarities who work well together. Most of these end up as friends. Also, the highest percentage of romantic relationships fall under this category of fating.
(what people traditionally associate with “soulmates” and romance)
Fated in balance
two people with some similarities and some differences who balance one another effectively. Many of these become good friends and strengthen over time. Romance isn’t uncommon in this category.
(‘peas and carrots’)
Fated in opposition
two people who serve as compliments to each other and challenge the other. Most can eventually come to reach some form of mutual understanding. Many can become friends with one another (think narrative foils, rivals, kismesis, etc.)
Fated in destruction
People with many differences who push one another past the realm of comfort and safety. They distain one another, or may respect but still dislike each other. Often, these relationships end poorly, but not all of them do. Some even become friends. It’s pretty rare for them to become romantically involved.
(rivals, enemies)
The categories are based on the compatibility in personality, going from highest to lowest. Why would two people with low personality compatibility be thrown together by fate? Because fating is fundamentally about fulfilling a role, regardless of how the people involved relate to each other. The mechanics do not serve those involved, only the universe’s own purposes of balancing things.
People who are fated together will end up coincidentally meeting much more often than is normal. Fating doesn’t guarantee that two people will make a connection; it merely increases the chances of it happening.
When someone meets another they are fated with, they may feel a certain pull towards them, like an unexplained magnetism (these are called abstract interest.) If it isn’t explained by desire for friendship, attraction or casual interest that tie back to a concrete quality, and it continues until the people involved regularly meet, then it is fating at work. (These are called concrete interest.)
However, people may be concretely interested in their fated match as well, so this test won’t work in many cases.
Empathy Link
Over time as a relationship develops, both partners may develop some level of empathetic link with their fated partner. This enables them to experience the emotions of, thus better understand, their partner. Many people will develop at least a weak link to their fated partner. Some will develop further, having a grasp on their partner’s every fluctuation of mood. The benefit of this will depend a lot on one’s skill with identifying emotions.
Telepathic Link
A two way telepathic linking can form between fated partners, if both partners are form of psychic. With effort, both sides can tune into the connection. Actual telepathic communication is difficult, as focusing on another’s thoughts naturally cancels the ability to focus on or allow entry to one’s own thoughts. It’s possible to set up a laborious turn based communication system when one is able to communicate face to face with body language or spoken language (making it more of a supplemental than replacement communication method.)
Some psychic fated partners’ empathy and telepathic links can connect them on a fundamental level, such that they can be said to share one mind. However, if one partner is killed, the other will continue to exist as they did before they formed the partnership, as they are not actually physically integrated.
New fated matches for someone can appear over time. They can also be dissolved, though this is difficult to achieve, and requires a genuine and concerted effort by one or both parties, with the goal of preventing future coincidental meetings. Some psychics have the natural ability to dissolve fated matches for others, though there are wider and unpredictable repercussions to this act.
Once people learn what fating actually is, they tend to discredit its influence. However, this is unwise, as knowing who one is fated with can help foresee future obstacles and better prepare for the future.

Esteemed colleagues, mutuals, and whomever else this may concern: I have a new screen recorder and it is so much better. I may go back and redo my old stuff just to have some better quality gifs. Anywho, now to the matter at hand:
At the request of @spookys-woolhat my beautiful analysis of "Hold That Tiger" (sorry, it's another 2 parter 😅😬)
For the longest bloody time I was trying to figure out what the heck Newkirk was saying here in this opening scene and apparently it was "rhubarb rhubarb" which was something in the early days of the British acting world that extras would mutter to make crowd noise along with stuff like "peas and carrots" and the like. So there's your fun fact for the day
Tumblr media
I don't think returning the tank was his concern Hogan 😂
Tumblr media
I just love that as soon as Hogan walks off they all start talking about how mad he is
Tumblr media
Back when the costume department was still figuring things out 😂 they're slight changes I know, but it makes a big difference
Tumblr media
I'm sorry, this scene was real cute and all but I couldn't stop focusing on her messed up collar! Like please somebody fix it 😂
Tumblr media
Schultz's facial expressions were on point in this episode, poor guy was put through the ringer though 😂😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Newkirk as a gestapo officer in this episode will never not be funny
Tumblr media
Like look at the face he makes here

Hiya! I love your blog, and I was won whether you had any headcanons about the cuisine and cultural dishes in Valino, Doriath etc, or even Angband! Thank you :)
Oh this is such a great question! I love world building asks like this! I’ll start with Doriath because I can draw from my Flora and fauna post but definitely feel free to ask about other locations too!
(I also do go into food in Angband on a few posts here though I am also planning a longer post about that!)
Like with my flora and fauna posts I use a combination of canon information and my own headcanons!
thank you so much @moveimbi I hope this is ok! Feel free to ask more
As always please feel free to ask more! I wasn’t able to cover everything here and I’m always interested in researching, taking more specific topics or going into more detail
Cuisine in Doriath differs slightly in Menengroth to the wood elves outside there but near all of the food is foraged or grown within Melian’s Girdle. There are not many formal gardens or farms but rather woodland plants and other flora are cultivated and nurtured by the elves as they’re found.
I have a post about the gardens of Menengroth soon!
Green amaranth, spring onion, tree onion, lotus root, lemongrass, hyacinth bean and more are all brought to Doriath from the magic of Melian.
A variety of berries grow in Doriath and are common as food themselves as well as garnishing and decorations for other dishes. Blackberries are one of the more common ones as are black currents, elderberry, mulberry, and bilberry.
Roots, nuts, and seeds are common components of meals, both simple and complex. Some examples include salsify, wild carrots, daylily, earthnut pea, acorn and hazelnut, pine nuts (somewhat rarer inside Melian’s Girdle), and mustard seed.
I headcanon that in Doriath meats are rare however the captains and wardens are skilled hunters who do not consider a respect of nature as mutually exclusive to eating meat. They are after all part of a world where many creatures hunt others.  Meats are almost never served during feasts or celebrations but are rather eaten during longer missions and during non celebratory communal meals. The most common meat is ground birds such as pheasants and partridge (black and hill partridge in Eastern Doriath, gray partridge in Nivrim, blood pheasant in the very North of Neldoreth.
Occasionally wild rabbit is eaten and in the very Northeast of Doriath, guinea pig like creatures are raised to eat by some families, similar to the practice in Peru.
Birds eggs are eaten more commonly than meat throughout Doriath
Fish are also eaten somewhat more commonly and are served at some feasts with mild sauces made with sage and other herbs. Freshwater trout is perhaps the most common.
True salt is rare until Thingol establishes somewhat more widespread trade. There are salt like substances that are made by enchantments prior to this :)
Honeysuckle, elderflower and other fragrant flowers are used in the production of wines and other cool beverages.
