These are all made up for my cube. I wrote down 192 unique cards. So far, 78 are illustrated. At this pace, I'm going to be finished next year :P

Aleixo, the Crimson Blade (+ Aleixo's Folly)

let's take a look at this guy who is definitely alive and well and such! some backstory, lore, and some other things about our favorite (only) planeswalker from oroza (at this point). also we talk abt aphen a little!

author's note: the end is a little bit intense, i think. not 100% sure. also, read about aphen first, if you want. it'll make more sense that way

so, we have this nice little planeswalker! good old, classic knight who hails from the Ekhma. he's a human (i guess), about fourty-ish? spark ignited like twelve years ago. so he's pretty good at being a walker. he generally goes about, fighting things, slaying wyvrens, dragons, and all, and is a commander in the Ekhmite army. his armor's special, i think, and his sword (which is definitely special) is permanently stained to be blood-red. which is why he's called that. believe it or not

at some point, he ends up investigating a lead into a Time-related Aphena plot. he makes his way to an ancient tomb beneath the Akand Peaks (thanks fantasynamegenerators), expecting nothing more than the regular bunch of Apheneon cultists and hordes of undead. instead, Aleixo comes face-to-face with, the Unkillable Monach, Aphen itself. Aleixo immediately retreats, rushing to tell his allies of Aphen, who does not take kindly to the disturbance of its rest

okay i came up with some Actual Writing for this next segment. so i'll put it here i guess. will put it with the rest when i write more.

Aphen stands, ancient bones creaking after eons of disuse. It raises its head to the sky, and lets out a mind-numbing shriek. Aphen knows it must stop that damned walker from escaping, but also knows that it is already too late. Suddenly, sunlight begins to stream through large cracks now forming in the ancient tomb's ceiling, and impossible amounts of dust are thrown into the air as Aphen flaps its wings once, and is gone.

that was fun. i hope. now back to this boring stuff! Aphen knows it can't catch Aleixo, so it decides just to fuck as much stuff up as it can before the Ekhma come to arms. Aphen flies about, destroying villages and cities all dilly dally, and then decides to take a charge on the Ekhmite capital, Vanulum (thanks again fantasynamegenerators).

as Aphen nears Vanulum, it is called to land by the blast of a horn.. Aleixo's horn. Aphen decides to humor him, and comes to a stop above Aleixo, before dropping to the ground, demolishing the landscape. suprisingly, Aleixo stands alone, no army to protect him. Aleixo offers Aphen a bargain -- in return for its immediate retreat from the lands of Ekhma, he will pledge himself to the Apheneon, and join their numbers.

As Aleixo finishes, Aphen is impressed. This one man—whether planeswalker or not—came to face it alone. Diplomacy may not be the worst choice at this time, perhaps. Why not reward this human's fearlessness? "Very well," Aphen states, unblinking. "Our dealings are done, and you are Ekhmite no longer." Aleixo watches as Aphen begins the assimilation, as runes twist about his head. Having slain so many, he wonders how it is to be an Apheneon. He lets his eyes drift shut, having accepted his fate The instant Aleixo's eyes close, a deafeningly loud slam of jaws is heard for miles around. His body rushes to meet the ground on which he stood just moments before. Aphen is satisfied, and takes to the skies.

Now, Aleixo's blade is finally at rest, laid upon the shattered earth beneath it. It is crimson no longer.

hello everyone!!! just finished the 540 card phyrexian cube draft environment ive been building for the last few days :3 i havent played with it yet, ive just been hyperfixating on phyrexia for the last week or so and this is the fruit of that. if anyone has any recommendations or wants to share with me draft results in it that would be great <3 otherwise look at it and draft in it if youd like! im pretty happy with it :3

(Limited) Ravnica Cube 2024

Here is my Ravnica Cube that I put together for Limited for whenever I get together with my friends. Most Cubes are designed for Draft, but me and my friends do not have the patience to do a Draft, so we're happy to grab five packs and treat it like it's pre-release night.

This is the most current iteration and I don't believe I'll be modifying it much further.

It took me a long time to refine it like this. The very first version had twice as many Gold cards. Someone on Reddit enlightened me that Multicolored cards are harder to cast in Limited environments, so I needed to cut back on the Gold cards, as well as add color fixing.

Speaking of color fixing, I most recently added the Surveil lands. I used to have the Guild Halls. As flavorful as they were, if you ended up with multiples, it came at the cost of not pulling color fixing lands, putting you at a disadvantage.

In addition, very few cards in the Cube have multiple colored pips in the casting cost. (I liked to joke that it's a Duel Masters Cube.) That plus all the dual lands / mana rocks, makes it very easy to mix all the colors. Most decks can be 4/5 color good stuff, which can mean its not a complex Meta, but me and my friends are not complex players.

Like I said, I'm likely not going to be adding many more cards. MTG had managed to resist power creep for the longest time, but the most recent sets clearly out pace the types of cards we got a decade ago. (Cards like Rubblebelt Maverick and Snarling Gorehound would not have been printed at common a decade ago.)

I also did some slight modifications based on ideas that Gavin Verhey talked about on his youtube channel. Cutting back on cards with First-strike, Flying, Hexproof, and making room for cards with Reach.

And that's it. Again, it's not an amazing Cube, but Ravnica represents the good times I had with my friends, so it'll always be special to me.

Magic the Gathering idea: form a pod of at least four people. For each person in the pod, the remaining players agree on what commander to assign them. Each player builds an EDH deck around their assigned commander.

To allow for low budgets, fast turn around, and the casual format, you’d encourage proxying cards. Alternatively, limit each player to a certain number of proxies as a way to cap the power level (although this is predicated on everyone having a single collection to draw from for deck construction or everyone having a collection that’s about the same power level)

I think this could be fun! Kind of a mix between cube, commander draft, and a group wide deck tech challenge? That’s the idea at least.

hello!

i'm somewhat, and for the past few days i've been working on making my biggest mtg project yet: the Eras of Oroza, my own custom set! before i get rambling, i'll put this here:

this set started with a simple card cycle i made to play around with cumulative upkeep -- the Five Ages.

each one details a specific time in Oroza's history, and bare the new enchantment subtype, Era

the world and story of the set are not yet finished, but the general premise and mechanics have been established. the set revolves around the enemy color pairings-detailed below-and is somewhat ravnica-inspired

the groups:

The Apheneon — white & black this group delves heavily in the concepts of thinking and memory-- but works for their supression and annihilation. similar to the Orzhov, the Apheneon also work with death, being the group with most of the common undead, such as zombies and skeletons the Apheneon ability word is "Diminished," and cares about having two or less cards in hand.

The Begdros — black & green the Begdros, as an organization, focuses on wars and fighting them. many Begdra cards have fight effects, giving their deathtouch-heavy creatures an interesting take on removal. unlike most planes, Orozan angels are almost exclusively alligned with black & green, and thus rank among the Begdros warriors the Begdros ability word is "Slaughter," which cares about when your creatures deal damage-- as well as sometimes giving additional bonuses if that damage was through fighting

The Thahmis — green & blue i have not figured out too much about them yet. sorry. they do do suspend and impending and time travel and stuff. the Thahmis ability word is "Development," denoting abilities that care about you putting counters on creatures that you control.

The Khalkos — blue & red ah, red and blue! my favorite color combination! the Khalkos focus heavily on industry. they're dirty, dirty capitalists and i sadly kinda love them for it. they have vampires and vedalken, too. that's pretty cool i think. the Khalkos ability word is "Production," triggering abilities whenever a noncreature token enters on your half (or quarter) of the field!

The Ekhma — red & white the Ekhma, like the Begdros (and the Boros, i guess), live for combat, but in a much different way. they're a big army-like thing (also like the Boros...), and i haven't figured out too much else about them. other than the fact that i'm going to make them not just be Boros. the Ekhma ability word is "Engage," and they trigger whenever your creatures attack or block

i'll give all major cards i make their own posts here, and dump less important ones together. i'll also try to write story stuff (whether summaries or full things) too. thank you for being here for this!
