X-ray imaging, PET scans, CT scans, and MRIs are various imaging techniques that are used to capture images of the inside of the body. 🩻
X-ray
— detects bone fractures, certain tumors and other abnormal masses, pneumonia, some types of injuries, calcifications, foreign objects, or dental problems.
MRA
— Magnetic Resonance Angiography uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency waves, and a computer to evaluate blood vessels and help identify abnormalities.
MRI
— Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses a magnetic field and radio waves to take pictures inside the body.
It is especially helpful to collect pictures of soft tissue such as organs and muscles that don't show up on x-ray examinations
PET scan
— Positron Emission Tomography may be used to evaluate organs and/or tissues for the presence of disease or other conditions.
PET may also be used to evaluate the function of organs, such as the heart or brain.
The most common use of PET is in the detection of cancer and the evaluation of cancer treatment.
CT scan
— Computed Tomography is used to identify disease or injury within various regions of the body.
For example, CT has become a useful screening tool for detecting possible tumors or lesions within the abdomen.
A CT scan of the heart may be ordered when various types of heart disease or abnormalities are suspected.

Radley's sneaky spicy cheatsheet for imaging modalities!
X-ray
Super quick zappyzap! One-to-four images per body part in the UK, unless you're doing fancy orthopaedic projections. Fast, cheap, and very good at looking at bones / basic abdominal or lung pathology / size of your heart. You hold still for like, one second. Then - ZOOP! You're done.
CT
X-ray BUT MORE X-RATED! Much, much higher dose, because it's basically taking a ridiculous amount of x-ray images while spinning the gantry (the 'camera', so to speak) around you at very high speed, and then algorithmically compiling those images to create a 3d digital construction of your innards! Very useful for looking at internal organs, especially with contrast media that makes pathology all shiny and pretty. Sometimes slower & always more expensive than X-ray, but much faster & cheaper than MRI. Patients can't move for the duration (unless you're doing cardiac stuff that takes a picture only in the lull between heartbeats - very cool!).
MRI
CT BUT WITH MAGNETS (okay it's not really much like CT except that it creates slices of the body in all three planes). There's no ionising radiation! It produces really, really clear, gorgeous pictures that show off soft tissue beautifully! We like that!! But... it's also really slow, really expensive, and really claustrophobic. A lot of patients don't enjoy it, and who can blame 'em? Who wants to be stuck in a small tube for a half hour while it makes horrid boomy noises at you? And you're not allowed to move at all? (we don't even like you to breathe too fast or too slow!)
Ultrasound
SOUNDWAVES GO BOUNCYBOUNCE. Though it produces a relatively unclear image that you need a lotta extra training to decipher, the tech is super cheap and available, and it's very quick to use! There's no ionising radiation involved! AND you can use it for realtime imaging - so, you can see a foetus move as it happens, rather than this movement messing up your entire image, or having to be carefully planned around!
Fluoroscopy
X RAY BUT VIDEO. This is a constant (and therefore high dose) real-time 'video' taken with X-ray, which can visualise movements within the body. You can watch contrast media (shiny juice) shift around to ensure that systems are functioning correctly! You can watch surgeons push their guide wires/stents/etc. into place, to be sure they hit the right spot! Or you can inject Shiny Juice into the blood vessels and, with angiography, watch it flow around the heart/brain to find blockages!
Nuclear med
WE STICK THE RADIOACTIVE STUFF IN YOU. For instance, we give you a radioactive tracer in a solution with stuff that binds well to bony metastases.... and BOOM we can see all your bony metastases on a PET-CT/MRI because they're glowing red-hot! Or we IV a nuclear tracer into your heart and make you exercise/give you meds that raise your heart rate and BOOM we can see whether your heart has an adequate blood supply during exertion!

A case of moyamoya disease by Fei Yang Chaojie Zou in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences
Introduction
Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare cause of stroke with progressive stenosis of the end of the internal carotid artery and compensatory capillaries. The symptoms and course of moyamoya disease depend on the age of the patient at the time of symptom onset and the type of first episode (ischemic or hemorrhagic), but vary in severity from transient ischemic episodes to persistent neurological deficits [1].
Case
Clinical data
The 57-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital on May 10, 2023, due to "depression, nervousness, worry and numbness of the body for more than 2 months." The patient complained of numbness and discomfort in the left index finger, middle finger and ring finger two months ago, gradually developed numbness and discomfort in the mouth, indistinctness of speech, weakness in both lower limbs and instability in walking, which improved for about half an hour. On the same day, I went to the local hospital in Guiyang for treatment, and no special abnormalities were found after completing relevant examinations (specific details are unknown). These symptoms can occur after strenuous exercise. Patients began to repeatedly worry about their physical conditions, nervous irritability, easy to lose temper, panic discomfort. Gradually feel low mood, decreased interest, lack of motivation, negative suicidal thoughts, poor night sleep.
Past History
"High blood pressure" for 3 years, with a maximum blood pressure of 185/? mmHg, currently taking "amlodipine 20mg QD" for the treatment of private complaints of irregular medication, poor blood pressure control.
Physical Examination
T:36.2℃ P:93 times/min R:21 times/min Bp: 119/71mmg. No obvious abnormality was found in the heart, lung and abdomen, and the signs were difficult to stand up (+). Conscious, repeatedly stressing that he was unwell. Lead to severe depression and anxiety, slow thinking, lead to negative ideas; Did not induce hallucinations delusions. Loss of instantaneous memory, loss of computational power. No depression or alternation of mood.
Auxiliary Check
Post-admission scale HAMD:29 points (severe), HAMA:31 points (severe)
Blood biochemistry after admission: triglyceride 23.79mmol/L, free cholesterol 3.43 mmol/L, total cholesterol 6.57 mmol/L. Head MRI+MRA: bilateral internal carotid artery intracranial segment occlusion, bilateral anterior and middle main cerebral artery shallow and local occlusion, poor development in the far branch, CTA is recommended to determine whether there is smoke change. Bilateral cerebral p1-2 is more likely to be cold than peripheral. Head and neck CTA: (1). Bilateral internal carotid artery C1-C7 segments were not developed, and severe stricture-occlusion was considered. (2). There was no development in the M1 segment of the bilateral middle cerebral artery, and there were multiple tortuous collateral circulation small blood vessel shadows around, so Moyamoya disease could be considered. (3). Bilateral anterior cerebral arteries are slender; Right-anterior cerebral artery A2 stenosis is mild to moderate. (4). Severe stenosis of P1-P2 segment of the right posterior cerebral artery is possible; The left posterior cerebral artery P1-P2 lumen is moderately narrow. Increased distal branches of bilateral posterior cerebral arteries.
Diagnosis
Major depression without psychotic symptoms; Moyamoya disease; Hyperlipidemia
Discussion
DSA is the gold standard technique for detecting intracranial stenosis and cerebrovascular malformations. The Japanese guidelines for the diagnosis of Moyamoya disease include MRI and MRA as a non-invasive diagnostic method . The latest diagnostic criteria in Japan suggest that cerebral angiography may be omitted when MRI and MRA findings meet all of the following: (i) MRA shows intracranial internal carotid artery or anterior cerebral artery and/or middle cerebral artery proximal stenosis or occlusion. (ii) MRA showed abnormal basal ganglia vascular network. At present, the treatment of moyamoya disease mainly focuses on neuroprotection, cerebral blood flow reconstruction and neurological rehabilitation. Treatment strategies can be divided into medical and surgical interventions. The main purpose of surgical intervention for Moyamoya disease is to improve blood flow in the hypoperfusion brain, and revascularization is considered useful for reducing ischemic injury . A 10-year follow-up evaluation from a Japanese Research Council registered study showed that antiplatelet therapy did not affect the incidence of cerebral infarction in patients with moyamoya disease. Therefore, revascularization is the most effective treatment for hemorrhagic and ischemic moyamoya patients .

Introduction to Transradial Access: Advantages and Clinical Applications
The global transradial access market size was USD 2.00 Billion in 2022 and is expected to register a revenue CAGR of 7.4% during the forecast period. Transradial Access (TRA) is the recommended method for coronary angiography and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) as it has a lower risk of bleeding and vascular problems than Transfemoral Access (TFA), increases patient satisfaction, and lowers patient mortality.
The increasing prevalence of coronary artery diseases and cardiovascular diseases, growing prevalence of obesity, and rising adoption of interventional procedures are some of the key factors driving the market revenue growth. In addition, increasing product launches and initiations by leading companies and rising prevalence of lifestyle diseases are contributing significantly to revenue growth of the market.
However, there are some restraints for revenue growth of the global Transradial Access Market. High cost of Transradial Access and product recalls are restraining the market revenue growth. The expertise required by the technique, the growing trend of a product recall, and the risk of failure are the major challenges to the growth of the market. The lack of healthcare facilities in underdeveloped regions has created an opportunity for key players to enter the untapped market.
The North America market accounted for the largest revenue share than other regional markets in the global transradial access market in 2022. The region has established itself as the market leader with a significant market share. A large number of individuals in the region suffer from obesity and diabetes. Because of the obesity epidemic in the United States, a growing proportion of patients have panniculus, which impedes TFA access. Obesity requires inventive patient placement to expose the femoral crease, mandates interventionalist access to atypically deep femoral arteries, and raises the risk of post-procedure bleeding and access site infection. Given that the wrist has less fat than the femoral artery accessing the radial artery in obese individuals overcomes several difficulties. Increasing healthcare expenditures and rising alcohol and cigarette consumption in the region also contribute to the expansion of the industry.
On the basis of end-use, the global transradial access market is segmented into hospitals and clinics, ambulatory surgical centers, and others. The hospitals and clinics segment accounted for the largest revenue in 2022 owing to the high prevalence of highly qualified healthcare professionals, and staff as well as the high percentage of diagnostics tests performed in hospitals and clinics, which is driving the segment revenue growth. Availability of long-term care facilities, as well as continuous patient monitoring, are two major factors driving revenue growth of this segment. The hospitals segment provides several diagnostics tests such as blood tests, Computed Tomography (CT) scans, capsule endoscopy, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and other imaging services. As a result, it contributes significantly to revenue growth of this segment.
