"ok roxy" i said, like a silly billy, "you made concept sketches for a mortified major arcana that youre pretty much happy with for the most part. now you can stop thinking about 'what if there was a tarot deck themed after mortified?' and get on with life." but no. despite the last time i read mortified being like 3 years ago and barely remembering most of it, @five-rivers has as TIGHT as a grip on my brain as ALWAYS and i started thinking about a minor arcana theme.

sooooo it would be cups (usually representing water + emotion) as human/mundane emotion/self/mind/introspection/whatever, swords (air + thought) as the ghost/ectoplasmic version of that, coins (earth + wealth) as human/mundane power/leadership, and wands (fire + willpower) as the ghost/ectoplasmic version of that. and they would each stick to a background setting and loose color palette for coherency. like in rider-waite, the aces would be a sort of pure distillation or genesis of the suit, the numbered cards would show scenes involving the items (and in this case depicting various less-major mortified characters), and the face cards (pages, knights, queens, kings) would depict individual characters embodying or exploring the values in different ways. i also wanted to make them mostly fit together into a loose scene together if possible but thats a sketch for another day :) an idea for who is what face card:

(i ran through a few different ideas for this, and all of them that involved Wes put Inky in a spot that implies shes an Ancient. and i think that rules.)

i finished a long-term project, concept sketches for the major arcana of an imaginary tarot deck based on Mortified by @five-rivers!

this is the second attempt, after some re-assessment, and the reason some of them have a different art style is because they went unchanged from the first attempt. a lot of thought went into the symbolism here, so feel free to ask me about it! i am thinking about changing the order to make more sense thematically, though. also if anyone wants to draw these in a less sketchy way feel free👉👈

Summary: Danny had actually been looking forward to Casper High's ghost safety assembly, but, between a ghost attack and his parents' newest weapon, things go wrong very quickly. Now Danny will have to fight not only ghosts and hunters but his own instincts to get everyone back home safely. If at all.

Some fun with Mavis + the twins - or as I like to joke, "The Flynn Kids from Phineas and Ferb - Goth edition!" XD

I feel like aside from the knowledge of her father and Ericka doing...THAT and Lucy's penchant for trouble, Mavis would love having baby dhampir siblings around to mother. She and Johnny would probably not only be the twins' guide to humanity since their parents know little about normal humans, but they're also probably the twins' godparents should something happen to Drericka. I liked the idea of her singing and dancing with them like her dad did with her.

For the 2nd I stole from Onward's "Dance Fight" sequence. Part of the fun of this is to these kids, the Prince of Darkness and Monster huntress are merely their goofy dorky embarrassing parents. And Mavis FINALLY isn't the only one mortified by seeing her father flirting...even if Simon's more embarrassed by how BAD it is than disgusted like his sisters.

To make that last part even funnier: Mavis' mortification with her father flirting is even better when you realize Mavis is actually BETTER at flirting and being romantically assertive than her father despite having had ZERO experience prior to Johnny while Drac fell to pieces and could hardly speak to BOTH his zings despite seemingly being quite good with the monster ladies. (Greyrose rizz, perhaps?) This dynamic is a big reason I've been considering Bi!Simon and Aroace!Lucy.

Bonus: Yes, Lucy's extra speech is definitely inspired by Drac's burning eyes in Transformania.

Hi! Are you the dp author who coined the term fraid for a ghost's chosen family?

I might be? I remember looking up terms for a group of ghosts when I was first writing Mortified, but it's honestly the kind of thing that multiple people might have come up with independently. It's not a super hard leap from group of ghosts to family of ghosts. However, given how popular Mortified got, I wouldn't be at all surprised if I popularized the term.

Whump Word of the Week: Mortified

"Mort" - this is a word related to death. Embarrassed to death. It's going to be the death of them. My god, what happened that was THIS humiliating? That must be pretty bad.

I'd also like to note this second definition:

subdue (the body or its needs and desires) by self-denial or discipline. "they wish to return to heaven by mortifying the flesh"

Which implies a double meaning in which whumpee is trying to get their mortification (or something else) under control. To hide it through a vicious inner battle. And isn't all shame a form of self-denial? A denial of pride if nothing else?
