An 18-year-old hacker who leaked clips of a forthcoming Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.

Arion Kurtaj from Oxford, who has autism, was a key member of international gang Lapsus$.

The gang's attacks on tech giants including Uber, Nvidia and Rockstar Games cost the firms nearly $10m.

The judge said Kurtaj's skills and desire to commit cyber crime meant he remained a high risk to the public.

He will remain at a secure hospital for life unless doctors deem him no longer a danger.

The court heard that Kurtaj had been violent while in custody with dozens of reports of injury or property damage.

Doctors deemed Kurtaj unfit to stand trial due to his acute autism so the jury was asked to determine whether or not he committed the alleged acts - not if he did so with criminal intent.

A mental health assessment used as part of the sentencing hearing said he "continued to express the intent to return to cybercrime as soon as possible. He is highly motivated."

The jury was told that while he was on bail for hacking Nvidia and BT/EE and in police protection at a Travelodge hotel, he continued hacking and carried out his most infamous hack.

Despite having his laptop confiscated, Kurtaj managed to breach Rockstar, the company behind GTA, using an Amazon Firestick, his hotel TV and a mobile phone.

Kurtaj stole 90 clips of the unreleased and hugely anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6.

He broke into the company's internal Slack messaging system to declare "if Rockstar does not contact me on Telegram within 24 hours I will start releasing the source code".

He then posted the clips and source code on a forum under the username TeaPotUberHacker.

He was re-arrested and detained until his trial.

I had a rough week last week. Tuesday my dog gets sick, so I look up her symptoms. And bc I'm a crazy person, my mind automatically latched onto the worst possibility. So I spent three hours crying hysterically and having panic attacks bc I was so scared she would die. Then Wednesday I had to take my dog to vet and was still super stressed out. Thursday and Friday I have to deal with medicaid and disability paperwork. Saturday I had a panic attack so bad that I couldn't stop it and had to text my brother to come help me (he lives with me. we're too poor to live without a roommate, and we've basically lived together our whole lives, so it was whatever). Sunday morning I have a panic attack and can't leave my house to play my weekly dnd game bc the thought of spending hours with other people away from home was...bad. Sunday night, I got completely (and irrationally) terrified of being alone. I was so afraid that I called my mom, and of course she offers to come over. And I'm freaking out so bad I let her, even though it was late and I know she has to get up early for work. (She only stayed until my brother got back around 10:30)

BUT, today is a new day. I managed to get my blood work done today, and talk on the phone to my case worker, and pick up a pair of contacts from my eye doctor to wear until my order comes in. And I didn't have a panic attack. I mean, I still had to have my dad take me, bc leaving home alone isn't something I can do right now. (Mentally or physically. My brother's car broke down, and since he's the one who has a job, he's been using mine. i stg it's like a fucking family curse; every time someone is already in a financial bind, their car will break down.)

So I have decided to take the next few days to just relax. My two besties that I've been friends with since middle school both have kids with autism and they said I'm probably going through autistic burn-out. I'm pretty sure I'm autistic and my doctor thinks I'm somewhere on the spectrum, though on the lower support side. I'm gonna play bg3, and unwind. And try to work on some fic. (bc I have the next chapter of 16 Days damn near finished, and it's the last chapter that ties up the current plot, then there's an epilogue that takes place later that played out like a movie in my head, so writing it will be a breeze.)

Side note, did y'all know that some school systems still use 'high/low functioning'. I've had to say to my coworkers that autistic people would prefer not to use those terms. But it isn't surprising; one of my cousin's kids was literally diagnosed with Asperger's. Which has fallen under the autism spectrum disorder since like, forever ago. And also there was a TA in the autism classroom I worked in once who literally told me that autism was caused by demonic possession. I'm so glad I left the school system. Bc I eventually was going to fucking explode with rage after the way my kids were treated. (My students, not my actual kids. I don't have or want any)

Working in EC has really shown me how little the school system actually cares about helping the disabled; they will cut corners and do shit that 'technically' meets a kid's IEP, but doesn't do a damn thing to help them. And if you say something like, 'i don't think that counts' your coworkers will not be happy. But to a certain degree you can't be too mad, bc there is literally not enough time or resources to meet every child's needs, bc they cram as many kids in one EC classroom as possible, hire the minimum amount of TAs required by law and expect one teacher to be able to magically meet all their needs. My last job had 3 kids in wheelchairs in those tiny ass mobile units schools started using, that literally did not have room to move around, unless the other students stood up to let them get by, and sometimes even move their desk. We had multiple kids with autism. One of them stimmed by screaming, another was triggered by loud noises.

This post kinda went off on a tangent. Anyway, heads up to any parents who have kids starting school, make sure you get a copy of your child's IEP. If you think they aren't being serviced, contact your local Board of Education, and tell them that you have a child with an IEP who isn't receiving adequate services. Then threaten to sue them if they don't start providing your kid their services. It does not matter if you can actually afford to sue them or not, an IEP is a legally binding document. You have the right to sue, and most of the time the threat alone is enough to kick their ass into gear.

Past my physical disabilities, I am neurodivergent, I have several "scary" mental illnesses that I am not obliged to share, but what I am willing to share is the fact that I have autism. When I am not doing that, I often spend my time badgering my long-distance significant other like a cat realizing you are mere moments late to it's regular feeding schedule. It loves me, though, so I'm allowed to be a little cat running in front of it to play insurance fraud every once in a while. (TCG & Anime), Warrior Cats, World of Warcraft, Monster Hunter, Baldur's Gate (I - III), Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Axolotls, Dinosaurs and Spyro. However, I ask that you err on the side of caution when it comes to critique of any medias mentioned in my presence unless I initiate it; I can take it very personally, like you're attacking me, and it will, 100%, make me act like the big companies need defense from some random online.

I am a non-practicing, baptized Wiccan. I respect all religions, even if I do not personally practice them or have bad experiences with them. I saw a [long post] with a lot of different people’s thoughts on use of the word crippled, especially in the context of the able-bodied nd/mentally disordered. I’m having a lot of trouble parsing it so I don’t want to reblog and add my thoughts directly, but I do have thoughts. (btw the post and the other post the ask was ostensibly in response to both have a lot of interesting discussion about ableism towards both physical and mental disability (and a lot of overlapping issues), I just. can’t read very well right now.)

before I got really sick, I started shying away from using the word crippled, because I’d heard other people say it was ableist, just like I started shying away from using the word crazy to describe things like buckwild video game plots, or how we’re not supposed to use “stupid” because it’s just one step down from the r slur dontchaknow, or “dumb” is a slur against the nonverbal (frequently posited by the fully verbal).

but as a cripple myself now (depending on how precise we’re getting with the term; I do not have severe motor dysfunction, paralysis, or loss of limb, but I rely on mobility aids to leave my home for more than a couple minutes and I am severely disabled), I think maybe broad discouragement of use is a bad thing? individuals who are not comfortable with it should be respected, just as individuals who prefer person-first language for themselves should be respected, but as a Broad Community Thing yknow? like, a lot of the instances in which it’s used are just... correct usage. to the best of my knowledge current use of the word “cripple” is basically synonymous with “disable”. crippling illness is generally considered acceptable even by those against other uses. how is that a different use from crippling depression, crippling debt, crippling cold?

it wouldn’t be more or less correct to refer to these things as debilitating instead. but “hey swap in debilitating” never seems to be the talking point. I’ve only ever really seen “don’t use The Bad Word”. which kinda increases stigmatization and stuff.

and like, by the same turn, I’d been nd and mentally ill (different things to me, and it’s very valuable to be able to speak of the cluster of autism adhd and other closely related disorders as a group with a single group term, which again no one is trying to replace as they try to turn nd into a whole-community term they’re only saying “no not for you”) for a very very long time, but one of the first things that happened as a result of me getting very very ill was being hospitalized in a psychiatric unit for several days. (which btw was abysmal and made things much worse mentally so like be careful tossing that kind of recommendation around.) and idk people saying “that’s crazy” doesn’t feel like an attack after that. especially when I’m most often hearing it from other mentally ill people that actually talk about accessibility and call out ableist things in the games they’re playing or their public conversations with friends.

idk it just kinda feels like. people are picking fights over language and in more than ten years it has not helped at all. so while there is absolutely some derogatory language that the outgroup should not say (the n word, the f slur, the r slur, etc), this kinda feels like it falls under the “queer” category for me. a word that absolutely has been used as a weapon (and which targets’ preference to “opt out” should be respected) but also is not inherently a threat.

(plus a lot of it feels like it totally fails to take into account that english is a living language, and use dictates meaning, and these words flat out are not the same as they were 50 or 100 or 1000 years ago, even though understanding how they came to be is valuable and often illustrative.)

In its decision, the court announced that Kurtaj had violent reactions while in custody, so he will remain in a secure hospital for the rest of his life, unless doctors determine that he is no longer a danger. Another interesting point is that this hacker, while under police protection, hacked Rockstar Studio using only the hotel TV, his mobile phone and an Amazon Firestick device.

Arion Kurtaj, 18, carried out a solo cyber attack in September 2022 while out on bail for previous crimes. He first attacked the financial company Revolut, stealing the information of about 5,000 of its customers, and two days later he targeted Uber, causing it almost $3 million in damage. The teenage hacker then hacked Rockstar Games, the developer of the GTA games, and warned them that he would release the source code of GTA 6.best-free-virtual-machine-software-for-windows-10-and-11-in-2023/

Kurtage also hacked Nvidia in February 2022, during which about a terabyte of data was stolen. About 80 gigabytes of the company's data were then released by him, and the 18-year-old hacker also threatened to release the rest.

We all share a memory (no amnesia between switches) and generally act as a single unit, hence the name. We will tag who posts what when it’s clear to us, but treating us as a single entity outside of conversations is perfectly acceptable. Despite this, we are still plural regardless of how unified we may appear.

This blog is mainly meant for us, and only for us, but we are keeping it public for now in the hopes of finding some friends. We only tag our posts for our own organizational purposes. You can learn about some of our more frequent users of this blog in our #intro tag.

-She slays. this is further reinforced with the Ultra Analysis Best Jeanist costumes ranking in which hers is #1 for ingenuity. The lace up over-knee boots are really carrying

-This page establishes that at least one of her super moves (Fig Tree) is on par with Kamui Woods' power if not stronger. She's a tank and her power output frequently reaches that of more main characters, further demonstrated by how she swept Kaminari (2x), Kirishima, and ranked #4 in the Entrance Exam and in the Obstacle Course, even above mobility-focused characters like Iida and Sero

- She's Funny as Hell

While it's well established Ibara is truthful to a fault, it goes beyond even normal perception of honesty-- For Example:

-The time she correct Present Mic at the sports fest, which is said to be on par with the Olympics. (She has the audacity)

-The time she said Shishida's strategy (a simple decoy plan, which he did not tell her about specifically because she's like this) in the JTA was worthy of lashing on all ends and that their loss was being burned by the fires of hell.

-The time she apologized to Gigantomachia for attacking him, despite the fact he is a literal natural disaster and was there to kill them an itsy bit.

-Despite the above, she seems to have no trouble lying to Mineta specifically;

at the Sports Festival, she mentions having deceitfully stolen his headband, which she only regretted once she believed she had lost in the Cavalry Battle as karmic punishment

In School Briefs 2, she and the other girls decoy a bath visit to lure him out of hiding to prevent him from peeking. Despite her rather extreme response to Shishida's strategy, she has no problem executing this plan and actively acts it out. This makes Ibara one of the only characters to actively hate Mineta in every interaction they have. Girlbossery. Furthermore, many of the gags they participate in BNHA Smash results in her beating him senseless. Because she does not fucking like him. He compels her to break the backbone of her entire moral code.

-Despite her rather strong confidence and willingness to appear publicly, she gets stage fright in School Briefs 4 for Class B's play. She's also given a role that explicitly mimics her personality, seeing as Monoma mentions she's incapable of deception.

-Although she abhors deception on an extreme level even to a minute detail, the way she speaks is considered confusing and she doesn't seem to pick up on cues to clarify what she means (autism moment)

She still calls Shishida "Beast of Revelations" despite his protests-- she's not a spiteful person, I think she genuinely just thinks what she's saying is a direct synonym for him and ergo is True.

In School Briefs 2, when Class A is doing the "Hotpot of Darkness" penalty game, Ibara puts bread into the hotpot. When Iida draws it and eats it, he asks what the "gluteny lump" is, which she responds with "The Body of the Lord", leaving Iida briefly horrified there may be a body in there until Momo translates that she means bread. She herself does not speak up to clarify at all.

Her Friendships With People are Genuinely Cute

-The Class B girls are repeatedly shown to be very close friends, and their unique personalities play off each other well.

In the Ultra Analysis Book, it's stated that her and Kinoko Komori are "Cultivation Buddies"

In School Briefs 6, it's stated that the Class B girls refused to make obligation chocolate for the boys because of the work it takes. They unionized.

She also gets along well with many of the guys, most notably doing her internship with Kaminari and Sero, and her and Shishida being described as "Beauty and the Beast". Even with his protests, they seem to get on well, but butt heads because they both have "take-charge" attitudes.

She's both really humble and really arrogant, ranging from her stage fright to declaring that she's the one who can judge sinners. She knows what she's good at and does it well. She's also capable of immense violence but also is a silly teenage girl who isn't like, fond of violence, it's just that she takes things from 0-100 really fast.

She's Really Misunderstood

I get that a lot of people are put off by her whole Christian schtick, but I think nobody really considers that Christianity is an extremely minority religion in Japan, and doesn't hold the same wait as Western Catholicism or Protestantism. Furthermore, the stuff she talks about really doesn't follow any exact code or doctrine-- it appears to follow sorta whatever the fuck is going on in her head (mystery) and is just a way for her to express herself and give herself rules to follow (autism). And she holds herself to the same standards she expects from others, or even moreso. She's just silly. I thought this was the Catholic Aesthetic website. Cmon.

Also she's a girl in BNHA come on. come on

She's Cute

-both Kaminari and Kirishima state they feel bad attacking her even if they've fought other girls, with Kaminari especially calling her acorn eyed (slang for someone with large, dark eyes). She's got that tbh stare.

-The anime also has her emote quite a bit more than the manga! in both the manga and the official game art, she looks incredibly unenthused or confused about the Christmas stuff, which is just funny to me. Girl that's Your Day

i find it hilarious that margaret (@featherrwbyrnjr) who i guess has me blocked now would assume a lot of things especially because i was in no way hostile in my recent post.

margaret and her friends have all been monitored by twitter countless times and suspended for abuse and harrassment. this includes monty (margaret's friend) telling me he hopes i get hit with a car, and promptly getting suspended afterwards.

margaret has said extendedly homophobic, ableist, and transphobic things towards several of my friends, including my current boyfriend. monty has stolen art from one of my friends.

monty and margaret are adults. ADULTS. who have been harassing people who are as young as 13 over a ship.

let's unpack just a little bit.

1: you deciding that shuake and shuakes as a whole are bad people because of your bad experience with your ex friends is your own fault.

2: do you even know what yaoi means? yaoi is the sexual fetishization of mlm couples and generally mlm people. the people who usually create yaoi content are usually straight women. a huge majority of shuakes are mlm/nblm, wlw/nblw, trans, etc. this includes myself, apollo, briar, cyber, kayla, and literally EVERYONE who you have attacked on twitter and verbally abused and sent threats to.

3: you repost shuake content with the intent to attack others for shipping shuake. YOU are the instigator. you don't know how to mind your business even if it could save your life.

4: i was actually referencing to a twitch stream in which robbie commented on shuake. get your shit straight.

5: you throw around the term biphobia like fucking CRAZY dude. biphobia this biphobia that do you understand that akechi's entire dialogue is gay coded? do you understand that, even in atlus' attempts to be homophobic in other contexts, you can still have lgbtq undertones? atlus is also notoriously bigoted in more ways than just homophobia yet has several autism coded and otherwise neurodivergent characters in the entire persona series.

6: shutaba is fucking vile, as well as akesumi. these are ships involving characters who are minors shipped with characters who either are portrayed as a sibling figure and/or an adult. akesumi is the equivalent to a senior in hs dating a freshman in hs. shutaba is a literal fucking stepbro x stepsis type ship and it is disgusting. futaba shouldn't even have been a romance route but atlus made her one because apparently female characters in persona games have to be dependent on the male main character.

margaret only ever mentions her autism when someone brings up a valid point - even in a very civil way - just so she has something to pin against the people who are telling her she is wrong.

margaret has told shuakes that she HOPES GORO AKECHI KILLS THEIR PETS, which is an extremely sensitive topic to me and my osdd system as a whole, hence i said some ugly things due to a persecutor's reaction, which i later owned up to and apologized for. upon people telling her sending death threats to ANIMALS was disgusting and uncalled for, she DISMISSED IT and said "goro said it not me".

she denies the fact that a huge majority of shuakes are disabled and/or lgbtq, including myself, and continues to call shuakes who have had it with her vile behavior ableist and homophobic.

upon people who tell her she's in the wrong, she blames it on being autistic, and when someone says "i also have autism/am disabled and i have never said shit like this", she attempts to privilege check people by saying things like "i don't have access to health insurance" or "i work several jobs" etc etc. (also known as the oppression olympics).

margaret and monty both have targeted several minors under the age of 16 to attack them for shipping shuake, including on tweets that do not say a single thing about shuakes or them in general.

they consistently have been caught gatekeeping (i.e. you can't kin/stan futaba if you're not autistic) characters.

I was the quiet kid growing up. Probably said less than 5,000 words during my childhood - seriously, didn’t talk much. Naturally, I was bullied and left out. As everyone else, I wanted friends and relationships, but didn’t understand the rituals. So, I became, and continue, to obsess over human interaction (not trains like the boys).

I’m an outsider watching and observing how people handle conflict or begin relationships. As an adult, I have a laundry list with step by step instructions.

Step 3: It’s a pleasure to meet you, ____. (Make sure you say their name 3 times in the conversation because it helps you remember who they are.)

Step 4: Listen. People love to talk about themselves so it actually works out for me. I’m deeply curious about people. I’ve learned that not everyone has that same obsessive curiosity for humanity.

You put on your “suit” to navigate the world and you take off the “suit” to relax and be weird at home. I seriously don’t like talking so it’s nice to not have to be chatty at home. I can just be.

I can process a lot of information at once; however, I have to be careful. Too much executive function where I’m switching between one task to the other drains by battery fast! When I’m overwhelmed I get anxious which leads to a loop of panic attacks like a computer glitching. Most people don’t like to think about complex problems and solutions. I see it as a puzzle or a chess game which I find exciting. I can see the interconnectedness of the world and how we have worlds within worlds within worlds. It’s all quite fascinating but it can also be quite disappointing. I’ve always been more about the collective than my own ego and I have no problem supporting and mobilizing for a cause that I feel benefits everyone. That outspoken behavior can get you in trouble.

I don’t understand sarcasm or reading between the lines. The fluff that Americans like to add to their conversations is very confusing. Just be direct and honest. I was told to treat others the way you wanted to be treated growing up. So, I was honest and direct but apparently that can hurt people and push them away from you.

During conversation, you are processing so much that when people hear you talk it sounds like you are not confident or confused. I want to know more about you but at the same time I don’t want to offend or seem like I’m prying. I’m also taking in the senses around us - I feel sensitive to things touching my skin.

The disadvantage of being autistic as a female, is you are easily a target for a predator. If you meet someone charming, I mean really great at it, then it can lead you down a dark path. I engage in small talk and I watch you to determine if I can trust you. I watch your interactions with other people, watch your behaviors online. I may see you at the store and not say anything because I want to watch and see you when you have your guard down. How do you act? I may be gathering information to mimic or determining if you are to be trusted. I know what behaviors I want to be around and I quickly cut out those who exhibit negative behaviors I don’t want to be around.”

I don’t usually do tumblr sadposting, but I guess maybe the holidays are getting to me and such. I already posted this on /r/trueoffmychest. I’m not sure whether posting this stuff or bottling it up (my usual practice) is better, but I thought I’d give this a shot. I may decide this makes me feel worse and go back to bottling it up. I have no strong feelings about whether you reblog this or not. Potentially distressing content below the cut. 

I just feel like it's too late to form real relationships or succeed in life in conventional terms.

Background: I am thirty-five year old man. I don't really have any real friends, and feel like I haven't really since high school (and not many then). I am a kissless virgin straight guy. I am back living with my parents. I have a very spotty employment history, sometimes working with startups that never went anywhere, sometimes doing part time work doing things like Solidworks CAD design stuff. I followed a weird path academically, got a bachelors in economics, then a masters in mechanical engineering. I'm starting a new CAD job in January. The money is okay ($30/hr), but it is part time with fluctuating hours, and generally my résumé is as holey as Swiss cheese.

I have been getting therapy, and have been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. My therapist and some other people have recommended resources to help me try to get out more. I started going to a group that hosts events for people on the autism spectrum, and I went to vocational rehab which connected me with MERS Goodwill which has provided employment counseling that I felt didn’t help much in getting a job (I got my new job primarily through an unrelated personal connection), but maybe did help me in overcoming the severe anxiety I feel around applying for jobs. I also started going to a kind of Jewish young-adult oriented group.

It just doesn't feel like it helps. I can't really connect with people, whether allistic or autistic. I feel like in primarily allistic gatherings, groups of people are already engrossed in their own circles before I know how to break in. I can talk a little bit, but I feel like often the conversation goes into areas I just can’t relate to. In autistic groups, well, I don’t really like to say this, but I find a pretty large fraction of fellow autistic people annoying. Even on weeks when I have a fair number of events that I’m involved with, I feel like I “go to events” rather than “have a social life.” Even when I talk to people, I feel like it’s okay as a one-off conversation, but don’t know how to build deeper relationships.

When I look outside myself, trying to see the world beyond my personal problems, I also feel depressed about the state of the world. I feel like Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and their friends are destroying my country. I feel like we are missing the chance to keep this planet livable, and now maybe it’s too late. I think about the horrific abuse of animals in factory farms on the scale of tens of billions per year.

I’m not really doing anything to solve these problems or make the world a better place, but I feel like I have to at least try not to make them too much worse. I’m vegan, and I avoid driving when I can, usually bicycling or taking public transit. It’s not enough, CO2 levels are still rising, billions of chickens are still being slaughtered, etc, and more systemic solutions are needed, but I feel like even that bit of harm-reduction I do further alienates me from people, and makes me more of an awkward weirdo in social situations, bringing my own food to pizza parties and stuff. I feel scared of a lot of left-leaning activism, because a lot of social justice rhetoric isn’t good for me psychologically.

I have a hard time using “real-name” social media like Facebook, or online dating. I have a Facebook account but use it about once a year. I’ve never tried any online dating. I think a few women have expressed interest in me in the past that I was largely too oblivious to pick up at the time (e.g., a girl who mentioned that she like guys with eyes the same color as mine), but I find it really inconceivable that any woman would be attracted to me with my life in its current state. (Physically, I’m okay-ish, but at my age, well, my nasolabial folds are starting to get deeper, etc.)

I’m into some nerd stuff, but I feel like I can’t get into a lot of the “mainstream nerd” interests like Star Wars, Marvel, Game of Thrones (I read the ASoIaF books, but only watched about one episode of the HBO show), etc. One mainstream nerd interest I enjoyed was some tabletop RPGs that I played with online friends a decade ago, but I feel like I don’t know how to get into a scene like that IRL.

I play too much multiplayer Mount & Blade: Warband (9 hours over the past 2 weeks, according to Steam), and really nothing else in my Steam library. People on a server there recognize me and sometimes talk to me, and I sometimes chat there too,  but I tend to shy away from forming real relationships. I always feel a little uncomfortable when people recognize me and want to talk at a personal level. I also look at a fair amount of hentai and furry stuff, and play some pornographic games. Sometimes laughing at jokes and stuff I see on Tumblr makes me feel happy for a time. The discussions are sometimes good too.

I feel that I’m in a lot of ways like the standard image of the Loser Bad Guy that I see in the media: the socially alienated guy who goes on a shooting rampage, the hateful misogynist incel, the isolated, downwardly mobile angry white male who posts Pepe-in-a-MAGA-hat memes on 4chan. I’m not planning on doing a shooting rampage or anything, but sometimes I just look at myself, and think: what a creep. What a waste of food and water and air. Sometimes I fantasize about getting into an accident that leaves me braindead so my organs can go to people who would make better use of them than I am.

I wish I could be more happy and grateful for the ways in which I am blessed. I am in decent health. I have enough to eat. I have a roof over my head. I am not locked in a battery cage where I can’t stretch my arms out. I am a straight able-bodied white male from an upper-middle class family living in a first-world country. Maybe I just have an unwarranted sense of entitlement, but I don’t know how to be happy with me life as it is.

Sometimes I just feel really angry at myself, for not being smarter, for not being more mature, for not taking advantage of more opportunities I’ve had in the past, for not being more motivated to change, for not doing more to help the people I could. Sometimes I just feel angry at myself for being angry at myself, for my own futile, unproductive anger over my own flaws.

I don’t really feel I talk honestly about this stuff with anyone I know. Sometimes I talk to my therapist, and I don’t lie to her, and she knows the core facts that I laid out here (difficulty with employment, relationships, etc), but I feel like I always shade toward something a little brighter than how I feel -- or, at least, how I feel at my worst moments. Maybe it’s just that my moments with her really aren’t my worst moments, so I’m not in the frame of mind to say how I actually do feel in my worst moments. With my dad, I feel like he thinks I’m just being overly dramatic and irrational. Maybe I am, but if so I don’t know how to be rational, at least consistently. With my mom… well, I usually don’t talk to her about this stuff. I feel like when she sees weakness, she goes in for an attack.

So with death battle’s upcoming Mitsuru vs Weiss match I wanted to talk about, mostly nerd out about mitsuru, look regardless on weather you like rwby or not weiss isn’t on mitsuru’s skill level.

Spoiler Alert: he uses numerous conflicting examples and sources to effectively inflate Mitsuru as a fighter.

(I mean she fought two gods and lived to tell about it.)

Neither of which she is confirmed to fight. That’s the issue with feats like these: they rely on possibility. And it's equally likely that Mitsuru did nothing. Only Makoto is canonically confirmed to fight the Nyx Avatar.

In fact, the closest thing to a canonical representation of the battle was the P3 movie Winter Of Rebirth...where Mitsuru is fighting Shadow hordes, not Nyx who is getting soloed by Makoto. And since Makoto is a Wild Card user. he would be VASTLY more powerful than Mitsuru.

As for Erebus: Again, only one person (Aegis) was required in the fight. So we don’t know.

Not just that but Mitsuru also has average agility (which dictates speed and hit rate with physical attacks) and average luck (dictating the success of status attacks) alongside the LOWEST END stat in the game meaning she wouldn’t be able to keep up with Weiss, she’d most likely fail using status attacks since they have a base success rate of 25% and one solid physical hit would do serious damage.

So right there are reasons why Weiss would have a chance if we follow your apparent standards of using gameplay.

But mitsuru is the team’s tactician and well studied in her academics despite fighting monsters, she’s top of her grade, she’s a great fighter and when she returns in persona 4 arena/ultimax she’s kinda insane as a fighter. (going through the full story in both’s massive text walls would take ages But I played through both a few months back and the things they write them capable of doing is insane)

so I decided to come up with a post (originally a power point before it crapped out) as to why mitsuru at her current skill is just too much for weiss.

So we’re using gameplay as a basis with Mitsuru’s P3 stats and her P4A moveset, judging how you’re talking.

Let’s talk about mitsuru first

Mitsuru is top of her grade, she’s so good the school often ask her to make speeches for assemblies that rouse the school so much, the principal tried copying them word for word out of jealousy.

And? So is Weiss so which school has higher standards? Also speech giving ability Is not the same as tactical thinking.

Despite also studying for school, she leads and runs S.E.E.S as a tactician (a chairman actually has the final say on everything but she leads them in battle) Her persona is both good for combat and sensory support (meaning she can sense her allies and other people, persona and non persona users)

On and off mind you as you’re only required to go into Tartarus occasionally and extended time in Tartarus will wear out a Persona user.

Meanwhile, Weiss’ studies ARE fighting since she needed to qualify for Beacon so her life has been revolving around being a good fighter.

Mitsuru’s persona can conjure ice in an instant and is completely unaffected but any ice type attacks done to her, she doesn’t even react at all.

She can also heal and is a pretty good healer in battle (When she isn’t casting marin karin! Regardless there’s no rule in death battle that says they can’t heal, the only rule was outside help and with the last handful of death battles some of them had healing factors) 

She can also charm her enemy or cause them to go into panic

Yeah and she’s super weak to fire.

And-wait a minute. Why are you referencing Diarahan and status attacks in the same post as the one where you try citing feats from Arena? Are you just picking choosing what Mitsuru gets?

Mitsuru doesn’t need to use her evoker and can actively summon her persona in the real world. (This is also mentioned in persona 4 arena and shown in battle as mitsuru states she only uses it out of habit.) This is also stated by when she calls her persona in both the game and manga she doesn’t use her evoker.

And even IF she does summon her Persona without her Envoker here: She’s in a different world. Same in Ultimax.

Also: That ice spear doesn’t look very impressive when you remember Weiss summoned an ice WALL that fast in Volume 1. Yeah, if you’re gonna use outlier feats, so will I.

She is able to again as I said snap second conjure ice within seconds in any shape she deems necessary

Non persona users can’t see persona (one guy remakes on how he sees a silhouette but only cause he’s standing next to her, another character natsuki walks into a battle and can’t see the others persona from the distant she’s at.

And yet in Persona 4 Yosuke reacts to seeing Yu’s Persona awakening.

Her persona Artemisia has a whip that can reach long distances and instantly freeze her opponents, she can also make floating and homing projectiles.

Mitsuru herself is remarked as moving faster than the eye can react when others watch her fight her shadow, this is also reflected in her normal combots where she moves faster than the eye can see and can hit a person over 15 times (don’t believe me? watch her combo video)

And at one point while fighting naoto a person with a gun who is also a persona user is able to disarm and disable in two fluid motions.

Disarm who? When? under what circumstances? Also a gun shoulding matter if Mitsuru can tank nukes right?

Need I stress mitsuru is incredibly smart, she has to run a magic C.I.A and outsmart a bunch of idiotic men in suits who think she can’t handle it, and had to at one point outsmart detective naoto, which is a feat in itself.

Weaknesses:

Fire is mitsuru’s weakness and while that sounds like an easy solution remember when weiss’s weapon starts burning with fire, mitsuru is either gonna back off, or disarm her.

That being said it’s her only weakness.

She also has average agility, less versatility, unreliable versatility, no debuffs or buffs aside from Mind Charge, limited mobility, a reliance on her Persona for big attacks and Mitsuru is never shown disarming someone so thee fire weakness is still major point. Especially by P3 standards which would cause her to be dazed and buy Weiss time.

That might seem bogus as being it but mitsuru has a lot of “human” weaknesses that won’t come into the death battle.

as a fight she is the superior, not just because I prefer her but because she’s been doing this longer and has to manage a fighting lifestyle and being a normal woman dealing with people who probably think she’s breaking the law for speaking out of turn with them.

Like what? Are you afraid they’re gonna bring up how Mitsuru and other Persona users tire out in places where they can use their Personas?

The third whom I must stress is a normal bandit, she doesn’t summon things herself, use magic, she’s not a god trapped in a human body, she’s just a normal woman, and she beats weiss down, while weiss struggles to get afoot and she loses this bout as well.

Let's just ignore how vernal is technically stronger than a complex sized scorpion and was posing as a demigod at the time....

Now I know it seems like I’m only glossing over negatives, which I must stress I’m not doing out of dislike, I took a deep dive-

Bullshit. One look at Persona then RWBY shows you doing the bare minimum for RWBY while giving Mitsuru the best versions of all her elements.

For example super and goku one which has insane feats that the other will never reach, hench each one literally ending with clark winning.

superman just has feats that are too insane.

Superman lifted infinity. Mitsuru help weaken one giant Shadow that was aid to be strong enough to destroy a mountain and yet it's strength stat is weaker than Junpeis. (And before you complain about me using gameplay on a supposed non gameplay feat-Erebus HAS NO non gameplay feats.)

They are nowhere compatible, even in the comparison range.

Weiss can kick some grimm ass, but we’ve yet to see her have a decisive victory against an opponent single combat.

where as we get to see/play (depending on weather you read the manga or play both arena/ultimax (both are canon because it’s the same thing but contextualized as a comic) mitsuru fights people with the same skill as her and comes out on top.

A. By the same standards, Mitsuru is in the same boat as Weiss

B. You’re using Arena as your line for feats but not moveset (or even consistently as feats since you still quote P3)/

And C. Np she didn’t. The investigation team is LESS experienced than Weiss so logically they’d be easier if we accepted your interpretation.

Just seen a post on here that’s brought back a memory.

When I was 12 I had my first mobile phone. I remember it had a horror game on it - I can’t remember what it was called, but you played two characters, a father and daughter. The father had to stay in the light or be attacked, while the daughter had to stay in the shadows or lose health.

So I play this game through to the end, and the daughter character gets cured of the curse that means she has to stay in the shadows. Then it read “her autism is also cured”.

I remember being 12, and feeling really freaking down about that but not really understanding why - id only been diagnosed as autistic about a year earlier but at the time i wasn’t really sure what it meant - just that I was different and that was why.

But holy shit man - that character had zero lines of dialogue, zero characterisation (in all fairness this was an early 2000’s mobile game) and they introduced her autism in the same sentence they cured it. No wonder it felt bad.

It is always treated as an individual problem: the kid is awkward, the kid might have autism, etc.

I'm a Gen Xr who grew up largely in nerd culture and dominantly socialized on BBSs and via role playing game culture, and here is my take.

BBSs had a reputation for being "full of weirdos." After all, why would any normal person meet people online, ever? Moderns would have a collective heart attack at the thought of their kids on BBSs, exposed to "weird" adults.

But in my big city (Los Angeles), there was also a whole youth culture that focused on BBSs. A big city could have as many as 50 BBSs, a smaller region might have one or two.

Most hardcore BBS and gamer kids that I knew, were upper middle class kids [1] - children of professionals, but also the highly status conscious faux-middle class and faux-rich "yuppies" [2] - whose world was entirely circumscribed by their parents. Their parents tightly organized their kids' lives. The kids ended up with no social skills. Their parents controlled who they got to meet, where they spent their time. Where I grew up was so hard to get around that you weren't likely to meet people who weren't part of your school world, without considerable legwork.

Even more, Los Angeles is famous for being a difficult social environment, particularly if you're in certain social groups or a ""model minority"" where "normal" and average middle class kids were seen as freaks because the aspirational standard was something most of us will never get to be.

How is an average person even going to get basic social skills under those circumstances?

Enter gamer culture (which in the 80s, meant tabletop) and the digital underworld of BBS culture.

The BBS subculture was an outlet for young people who couldn't connect to other people in their city, who perhaps weren't allowed to interface with other young people. And not surprisingly, BBSs became a nucleus of "gamer culture," too. Young people who couldn't get out to role play IRL could do it online.

Most importantly, BBSs provided a way for young people to meet and interact without their parents' oversight. It's not surprising that my boards' most active hours were the hours when the parents were asleep, and the sliver of time between arriving home from school and the parents getting home from work.

Also consider the demographics of the Gen X "baby bust." When I was growing up, it was possible to grow up on a block that didn't even have a single other family. There weren't that many ways a kid or teenager could have a social life with people their own age, outside of school or very parentally controlled circumstances.

Tbh it's this common early life experience of parentally, regionally, and culturally imposed isolation that led to the social awkwardness. The awkwardness didn't produce the isolation for a majority of us. How many people in my old crowd have an autism diagnosis? Not very many. Not even at any kind of much higher number than in the general public!

(As a footnote: whenever something went on in a kid's life - a bad early love relationship, bad grades, etc - it was really common for parents to blame the BBS culture and take away the young person's computer. There were also fewer girls on BBSs and one of the reasons was that parents were panicked about girls being exposed to creeps and older people and counterculture. Which reinforced the BBS being about creeps, older people, and counterculture.)

[1] not the 1%, but per 1980s economics, perhaps the 5%. Actual *rich* kids would have had either way more freedom, or way less.

[2] "yuppie" has suffered concept creep and seems to just be interchangable with upper middle class and rich people these days. In the 80s, it was a very specific zeitgeist and had a very specific meaning. Yuppies were pretty specifically social climbing, upwardly mobile middle class Boomers who benefited from the last gasp of the postwar economy and the credit bubble. Suddenly you could purchase social capital on credit. Which is what most yuppies actually did. Yuppiedom was about appearances as much as, or more than, realities. Most children of yuppies didnt do as well as their parents but at least half of that is because yuppiedom was fake to begin with.
