(USA TODAY Sports)NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fell and broke his hip at a concert Friday in Los Angeles and will undergo surgery Saturday.Deborah Morales, Abdul-Jabbar's longtime business partner, made the announcement Saturday afternoon. It's unclear what show Abdul-Jabbar was attending.Medical Statement from Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s longtime Business Partner, Deborah Morales “Last night while attending a concert , Kareem had an accidental fall and broke his hip.  He will have surgery today.  We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem,…— Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (@kaj33) December 16, 2023Abdul-Jabbar, an all-time great who played 20 seasons in the NBA, has dealt with multiple health issues in his retirement. He beat chronic myeloid leukemia in 2008, underwent coronary bypass surgery in 2015 and was open about his prostate cancer diagnosis in 2020.Three years ago, the six-time MVP penned an essay describing himself as "fortunate" to survive prostate cancer. He wrote about his medical experience as an ideal outcome, highlighting racial disparities in the healthcare system."I’ve been fortunate because my celebrity has brought me enough financial security to receive excellent medical attention," he wrote. "But while I’m grateful for my advantages, I’m acutely aware that many others in the Black community do not have the same options and that it is my responsibility to join with those fighting to change that. Because Black lives are at risk. Serious risk."Abdul-Jabbar retired in 1989 after playing for the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers. He was a social justice champion throughout his career, an effort he has continued in retirement.

Subscribe to Ball Don't LieJake Fischer and Dan Devine get together to talk about Draymond Green’s indefinite suspension by the NBA, Giannis fighting with the Pacers over a game ball and the 1st place Minnesota Timberwolves. On this episode of No Cap Room, Jake Fischer and Dan Devine discuss Draymond Green’s indefinite suspension by the NBA and whether it is a sign of the end of the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty. Jake also talks about what the Warriors might be looking to do on the trade market.Jake is in San Antonio to watch the Spurs take on the Los Angeles Lakers (without LeBron James), and he has a lot of thoughts about what Gregg Popovich and the Spurs are doing as the team has lost 18 games in a row. The development of young players is the #1 priority in San Antonio, but are they getting too aimless and experimental?Giannis Antetokounmpo set a career high, and a Milwaukee Bucks franchise high, when he scored 64 points against the Indiana Pacers last night. But the big news story is how upset he was about not getting the game ball delivered to him after the win, which just adds more fuel to this budding rivalry that started in the NBA In-Season Tournament. Finally, the Minnesota Timberwolves are tied for the best record in the NBA (along with the Boston Celtics) and are finally seeing the potential that they hoped to achieve when they traded for Rudy Gobert before last season. Dan explains why this team is a real championship contender, and Jake talks about what the potential fallout could be if the T’Wolves can’t find success in the playoffs this year.🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports PodcastsThis article contains affilate links; if you click such a link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission.

Giannis Antetokounpo put up a franchise record 58 points in Milwaukee’s revenge game after their loss to the Pacers in the in-season tournament. (AP/Morry Gash)Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks got their revenge on the Indiana Pacers after their loss in the NBA’s in-season tournament.Antetoknmpo dropped a career-high 64 points while leading the Bucks past the Pacers 140-126 at Fiserv Forum. That set a franchise record for the Bucks, too, surpassing Michael Redd’s previous record from 2006. The win came after the Pacers beat the Bucks in the in-season tournament semifinals in Las Vegas last week.Things briefly got heated amid the Bucks’ run in the fourth quarter that pushed them to the 14-point win. Bucks forward Bobby Portis was ejected after he tried to defend Antetokounmpo after a hard foul in the paint.Early in the fourth quarter, Antetokounmpo drove to the rim when Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith grabbed him and threw him to the ground in the lane. The play didn’t look intentional, but rather as if it got away from Nesmith after he fell for a shot fake. But before Nesmith and Antetokounmpo could separate, Portis came flying in trying to shove Nesmith himself. That sparked a small altercation that required the two players being separated. Antekounmpo’s younger brother, Thanasis, lost it on the bench, too, and had to be held back. Both Portis and Nesmith were hit with technical fouls in the incident, and Portis was ejected. Portis finished with 19 points after shooting 8-of-13 from the field in 23 minutes. The Bucks held a 111-98 lead when Portis was tossed. They opened the fourth quarter on a 22-8 tear, and eventually caused Bucks coach Adrian Griffin to pull his starters shortly after Antetokounmpo hit the 58-point mark. But after a slight Pacers run, Antetokounmpo returned to seal the win for Milwaukee — which is when he hit a pair of free throws, a layup and then a dunk in the final seconds to get to 64 points on the night.Antetokounmpo was unstoppable for the Bucks. He added 14 rebounds and shot 20-of-28 from the field while putting up his 58 points. He went 24-of-32 from the free throw line, too, which set a new career-high in free throw attempts in a single game.Antetokounmpo is now responsible for two of the top three single game scoring records in Bucks history, both of which came in 2023. Wednesday night was the third 50-point game he's had against the Pacers, too. His 61-point game is the first 60-point game anywhere in the league since Damian Lillard had 71-points last season with the Portland Trail Blazers. Lillard was responsible for the last two before he was traded to Milwaukee.Lillard added 21 points and five assists for the Bucks, and Khris Middleton had 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.Tyrese Haliburton led the Pacers with 22 points and seven assists in their loss. Myles Turner had 22 points, too, and added nine rebounds. They were the only two starters for Indiana to score in double figures.Things got heated again after the buzzer sounded, too, and Antetokounmpo was seen yelling at Haliburton and other assistants on the court before he took off sprinting into the tunnel. The Pacers reportedly took the game ball with them into the locker room, which Antetokounmpo wanted to get back. Eventually, he came back out onto the court and gave a normal interview with Bally Sports Wisconsin. While it was a very tense matchup in what has been a great rivalry in the Eastern Conference already this season, Antetokounmpo managed to pull off the historic outing and get the win. The two teams will square off in a pair of matchups on Jan. 1 and Jan. 3, which are sure to be just as competitive.

The Chicago Bulls are finally inducting Michael Jordan and others from their dominant run in the 1990s into a Ring of Honor. The Bulls announced plans for their Ring of Honor on Tuesday, which will be headlined by Jordan, Scottie Pitten and Dennis Rodman. The inaugural class for the Ring of Honor includes 13 people and the entire 1995-96 Bulls team — which went 72-10 and won the NBA title, the fourth in their six-title run. Former Bulls coach Phil Jackson, assistant Tex Winter and former general manager Jerry Krause are also being inducted, as are Artis Gilmore, Jerry Sloan, Toni Kukoc, Bob Love, Chet Walker, Johnny Kerr and Dick Klein.Introducing the Chicago Bulls Ring of Honor! We are excited to announce our Ring of Honor, celebrating past players, coaches, and front office staff who have made outstanding contributions.Join us for the ceremony at our Ring of Honor Game, presented by @MagellanCorp, on 1/12. pic.twitter.com/eiSlmIGN6r— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) December 12, 2023The Bulls will honor the class at a private event at the United Center on Jan. 11, and then during halftime of the Bulls’ game against the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 12. Warriors coach Steve Kerr spent five seasons playing for the Bulls, and was a member of the 1995-96 team. The Bulls will keep adding to the Ring of Honor every two years. In order to be eligible, players must have spent at least three seasons with the team and have been retired from the sport for at least three years.Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson, seen here in 1998, will boh be inducted into the Bulls' Ring of Honor next month. (Phil Velasquez/Chicago Tribune/Getty Images)Jordan spent 13 seasons playing for the Bulls, and won six NBA titles with the franchise over an eight-year span alongside Pippen, Rodman and others. Jordan was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009, and both Pippen and Rodman were inducted in the following years. The Ring of Honor announcement comes amid what has largely been a rough start to the season for the current Bulls. They are just 9-15 so far this season headed into Tuesday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. The team has, however, won four of its last five games and only fell to the Milwaukee Bucks by four points in overtime on Monday night. The Bulls, in their fourth season under head coach Billy Donovan, have made the playoffs just once in the past seven seasons.
