Been listening to “Respectless” again and I’m honestly thinking about a scenario that could fit in the Monsters Inc franchise
So let’s say the CEO’s of the major energy companies (Monsters Inc, Fear Co, Scare Masters, etc.) decide to have a meeting to find out the best techniques to get more energy for Monstropolis or something like that and just like in Monsters University, Johnny starts shit. Cue a singing battle between Mike (having Carmila’s role) and Johnny (having Velvette’s role). Sully is basically the Zestial singing “We can’t act without more intelligence” like the reasonable king he is
After Mike’s “This meeting’s over!”, we see Tylor, Val, and the MIFT crew with their ears pressed against the door and Fritz, bless him, says “Ooh, this sounds like a very productive meeting!”

((tylor x reader x duncan concept coming up… gender neural of course))
you’re a young monster and recent addition to the mailroom leading up to the events of the show. when a mail chute gets clogged the mift crew, or rather fritz and a monster you’ve never seen before, show up to fix it. that‘s the day you first meet duncan who’s also new to monsters inc and being trained by fritz.
it’s pretty uneventful, they don’t take long to fix the chute and are on their way after a few more jokes that fall flat. you‘re still happy to have met another newbie and duncan seemed to think the same.
in the next few months you get settled into your new job and the infrequent run ins with mift turn into semi regular meetings of duncan seeking you out to just chat (and gloat sometimes). once you find out about his pet you stop by the mift office when you’re nearby. the cute fuzzball is a powerful incentive to come visit and duncan even lets you pet it (it’s surprisingly friendly to you).
the more you get to know duncan though the less you want to hang out with him. he’s kind of underhanded and a little manipulative, the kind of monster who’d sabotage you if you got in his way. and lately he’s acting more creepy on top of that to the point that you don’t want to be „friends“ anymore. not like you were ever more than acquaintances.
but to him you’re his work crush! he wants to impress you by showing off and he’s gets roto to be extra nice and cuddly to you when you hold him. it’s part of his plan to get you to like him back. just as much as duncan dreams of being the mift supervisor he wants to be your boyfriend. in the future he’s planned out in his head you’re by his side, he’s decided that for certain.
unfortunately for you his „romantic“ attention reads more as creepy to you. he’s often slinking around you, closing in on you on your break and you won’t ever recover from the heart attack he gave you the time he landed right in front of you in a dark hallway after hours (because he‘d been perched somewhere and watching you… you just told him he would’ve made a good scarer and got out of there as fast as you could).
subconsciously you know what he wants from you. but for the most part you’ve brushed of duncan’s behaviour as just him being a little strange and creepy. you choose to act oblivious the „flirting“ as long as you can. he has to realize you aren’t interested sometime, right? it’s not like you’ve ever met outside of work either.
however he’s still one of your first friends in monsters inc. you don’t have that many friends at work or in general even and you have a feeling he’s the same way. you’re kind of in a limbo.
that’s your status quo for some time. some monsters leave the company, new faces join, a big conspiracy gets uncovered and scream energy gets replaced by laughing energy… the whole world is upside down and through all of it duncan stays a constant presence in your work life who doesn’t get the hint you don’t want to be more than friends. it’s unsatisfactory for both of you but he seems to believe he’ll win you over with time.
enter a new force that rattles the shaky balance between duncan and you: tylor tuskmon. he’s a pretty-boy fresh out of college, with high ambitions that get absolutely crushed on his very first day on the job. a top scarer who beat sullivan‘s record with a letter of recommendation that’s useless now. you were just trying to buy a drooler cooler when he literally ran into you by the vending machine and broke down and vented to you for the duration of your lunch break.
tylor‘s been relegated to mift and wants to get out of there fast. he‘s trying to become a jokester now, since the one thing he’s worked for all his life has become completely impossible. you feel sorry for him but boy, what a first impression. also he‘s a big guy, it hurt when he bumped into you.
you see tylor more often after that. he‘s with the mift crew since there’s always something in need of fixing in a place as big as monsters inc you meet more or less frequently.
it’s easy to like tylor, he’s kind and honest and gets contagiously enthusiastic. he can be immature sometimes but that’s the lack of life experience. this is his first job. age wise you two aren’t that far apart but he still has a kind of innocence, almost gullibility when faced with new situations.
he reminds you of yourself if you hadn’t dropped out of uni.
it’s impressive tylor pulled through and finished his education. admittedly he’s also a looker. even his clumsiness can be charming it it doesn’t cause a major accident.
tylor‘s grateful you listened to his troubles on his first day of work without judging him. you’re the friendly face of the mailroom and you aren’t crazy and annoying like the others at mift. most of all you look like you know what you’re doing. you’ve found your place in the mailroom and you’re good at what you do. he aspires to become like you in that aspect. he‘s also starting to like you.
but we all know how duncan already feels about tylor. he sees the college boy as a threat to his promotion. duncan catches tylor making googly eyes at you when the two are fixing the pneumatic tubes in the mailroom. tylor, clumsy as always, trips and falls. you help him up but laugh at the parcels hanging from his horns and tylor laughs along. the sound signals a direct threat to duncan‘s entire future he’s got planned out in his head.
an even bigger competition between the two is sparked. they get into an argument on the way back to the mift office with duncan whispering he’s got dibs on you, you’ve known each other forever! tylor is taken aback at first. he snaps out of it and gets back at duncan. you get to choose who you date. obviously you would never pick duncan!
the tensions are mounting with you right in the middle of it all. what are you gonna do with two monsters pining for you who are also at each others throats half the time?
((and scene 🧎‍♀️. i needed to get this out, hope you like it!! love your blog 💋))

What the MIFT crew would listen too:
Gotta keep the Monsters Inc fandom alive somehow. This is just a little post of what I would assume the MIFT team in Monsters at work would jam out too. Purely based on what we've seen throughout the show and just plain assuming.
Val:
- She definitely likes indie music, perhaps some hyperpop and techno here and there as well.
- It gets her going, especially in the morning, she likes the fast pace of some songs and the loud base in others.
- Her favorite artists would be Artic Monkeys, MGMT, and probably Lorde.
- She'll blast her favorite songs while riding on that buggy/work vehicle.
Fritz:
- I feel like he'd be into oldies.
- He's an 80s/90s rock kind of guy, he likes the nostalgia it brings, but also I feel like he'd be into all genres from his generation.
- I see him listening to The Smiths, Billy Joel, and especially The Beetles.
- He'd probably have some sort of little speaker in his office so he can play his CDs while working.
- He has a big CD collection btw.
Cutter:
- Ok this gal definitely likes punk rock, new and old.
- She absolutely for sure listens to Misfits, The Clash, and maybe even Green Day.
- She for sure goes to a lot of concerts too, when she's off that is.
- Probably met one of her kooky husbands at a concert.
Duncan:
- Ok he's literally my favorite and I want to do him justice so this is kind of hard.
- I can't really put into to words what his music taste would be.
- I'm thinking Mitski, Bôa, Olivia Rodrigo, and Adele.
- I imagine he'd be pretty insecure of his music taste, he would definitely be shy about suggesting songs to others.
- He'd keep his favorite songs on the down low, but when alone him and Roto will dance and laugh to the music.
Tyler:
- This one is kinda hard too, I've been thinking about it and I'm pretty sure he'd be an indie enjoyer as well.
- He'd of course throw in a bunch of other genres too.
- His playlist would be mixed up.
- I see him listening to Weezer.
- That's it, he's a Weezer enjoyer.

Mindy Kaling Joins the Cast of Monsters At Work on Disney+ Including First Look Images
One of the first original series announced for Disney+ was “Monsters At Work”, which takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley’s discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer, until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in.
Today, Entertainment Weekly has released the first look at some new images of the new characters from the series:
The multitalented Mindy Kaling—who voiced Disgust in Inside Out has joined the hilarious cast of Disney+’s highly anticipated animated series Monsters At Work. Kaling will voice the character Val Little, who is an enthusiastic member of the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (aka MIFT). Additionally, Bonnie Hunt will reprise her role as Ms. Flint. Formerly in charge of training new Scarers at Monsters, Inc., Ms. Flint now manages the department responsible for recruiting and training the funniest monsters to become Jokesters. Monsters At Work will begin streaming on Friday, July 2, exclusively on Disney+.
Ben Feldman voices the lead character Tylor Tuskmon in the series, which will introduce new monsters alongside returning favorites—including Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan, who will again be voiced by Disney Legends Billy Crystal and John Goodman. Starring alongside Feldman and Kaling as part of the MIFT crew are Henry Winkler, who voices Fritz, the scatterbrained boss; Lucas Neff, who voices Duncan, an opportunistic plumber; and Alanna Ubach, who voices Cutter, the officious rule follower.
In addition to Crystal, Goodman, and Hunt, returning voice actors from the beloved film franchise include John Ratzenberger as Yeti and Tylor’s dad, Bernard; Jennifer Tilly as Celia Mae; and Bob Peterson as Roze, the twin sister of his original Monsters, Inc. character, Roz. Voicing additional new characters are Stephen Stanton as Smitty and Needleman, the bumbling custodial team at Monsters, Inc., and Aisha Tyler as Tylor’s mom, Millie Tuskmon.
Produced by Disney Television Animation, the series was developed and is executive produced by Disney animation veteran Bobs Gannaway.
It is produced by Academy Award-nominated producer Sean Lurie. Kat Good and Steve Anderson are supervising directors. The late Rob Gibbs (Monsters, Inc.) served as director on some earlier episodes.

Good Stuff: Monsters at Work
Tumblr media
Monsters Inc was a good film. Monsters University wasn't a good film. Monsters at Work is where things actually blur because it's surprising that they made a whole show surrounding something you'd think would be one and done. Never say never, I guess. So by all means, did this work or did it need work?
Tumblr media
See what I did there? It's about the title... of the show. Heh.
To start, I gotta appreciate the effort that went into this being a good looking CG show, a first for Pixar. It's not entirely made from their house, but ICON really made you feel like you never stopped watching Monsters Inc. Not as cinematic, and you'll definitely notice some lip sync errors, but credit where it's due that it looks amazing.
Tumblr media
Speaking of which, the characters...
The new cast is a slow burn to enjoy on their own. The old cast from the movie feel like they never left and they're great, but you're honestly with Tylor where the MIFT crew can be hit or miss unless you're okay with the charm of their dynamic. It has the good casualness of the original film. One thing I feel should've had more this season is Tylor doing more work to show that he is an effective member of the MIFT and it'll truly suck when he becomes a Joker. I dunno, didn't feel like he felt like a developing member of the group when we hardly see him do much actual mechanic work outside episodes 3 and 8.
Tumblr media
Episodes 6 and 8 were kinda everything I'd want in a good episode of Monsters at Work where it's a nice blend of action, dysfunctional yet breezy comedy, and that heartwarming charm by its end that gets me to like the characters a bit more. It all somewhat reminded me of a certain show. "The Office?" God no, Veggietales.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Got the known duo with the supporting rogue gallery but you know, it's factory working instead of Christian stories
For what this is, it feels like we got the most of both the previous films, both their ups and downs. Even if things felt rushed, I enjoyed Tylor's journey of working his way up, getting along with his new workmates and Duncan, and just proving his worth to a place he wants to fit in. Kinda captures what Monsters U wanted to convey and what Monsters Inc. understood with the idea of change. I'm unsure of the complexities that they tease (like other scare companies existing, rules surrounding having children around), but this was a series that felt worthy of seeing unfold week by week. It's not the bombastic outing I was kinda hoping, but it's a enjoyably breezy sequel for Monsters Inc. fans.

Note
"Who Broke the Coffee Machine" Parks & Rec scene but with the Monsters incs/at work characters
I can see that and it would be great. It be Duncan probably in Ron's role though as I don't see Fritz doing that to the Mift crew.

Monsters at Work Review (Spoiler-Free)
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Monsters at Work review contains no spoilers.
Disney+ launched with the promise of bringing many adored Disney franchises to the small screen, but with big picture ambition, storytelling, and production values. So far, that promise has mostly been met, with the Disney+ original series like Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier feeling like stretched out features diced into episodic instalments. However, Monsters at Work, Disney+’s new sequel series to Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., feels more like traditional television than a “X-hour movie,” for better or worse.
Monsters at Work takes place immediately following 2001’s Monsters, Inc. After Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman) discover that laughter generates ten times more power for the Monstropolis power plant than screams, Mike and Sully are put in charge. and tasked with helping the company transition from an organization of scarers to jokesters.
Meanwhile, recent Monsters University graduate Tylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman) arrives at Monsters, Inc. as the top scarer in his class, but finds that his skillset doesn’t fit in with Monsters Inc.’s new corporate culture. He’s assigned to the MIFT (the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team) crew, a misfit group of monsters comprised of warm leader Fritz (Henry Winkler), over-enthusiastic Val (Mindy Kaling), down to business Cutter (Alanna Ubach), and threatened brown-noser Duncan (Lucas Neff). Tylor is torn between pursuing his dream of getting on the scare floor or falling in with his new whacky work family.
Despite a talented and more-than-game voice cast, Monsters at Work feels more like the TV spinoffs of popular Disney movies of yesteryear that used to populate the Disney Channel more than a proper extension of the Pixar property. This makes sense considering Pixar is not involved with Monsters at Work and the show is produced by Disney Television Animation and overseen by Bobs Gannaway, who previously worked on shows like Timon & Pumbaa, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, and The Emperor’s New School. The new series looks cheaper than its predecessors and also lacks the sharp writing. While children may find more to laugh at, the average adult viewer will be charmed by, but not laughing at anything much in Monsters at Work.
Another thing that takes some of the excitement away from Monsters at Work is our familiarity with the Monsters Universe. After two films, the wacky character designs and world-building feel familiar and therefore are less likely to surprise. However, exploring the unsung heroes of Monsters,Inc., the maintenance folks and other day-to-day operational players is an intriguing idea with room for growth. In the two episodes screened for critics, it does appear that the show is presenting the idea that college isn’t the only path to a fulfilling and meaningful career, which feels wildly different for kid’s entertainment and a welcome, necessary message.
Monsters at Work also looks like it will have fun playing with tropes of workplace comedies, taking aim at institutional businesses during transition. Anyone that has been through a company merger or a “culture reset” can find something recognizable in Mike and Sully’s struggle to redefine what Monsters, Inc. is. There’s also some lighthearted jabs at workplace burnout that are fun to see.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Monsters at Work does not feel like a genuine article sequel to Monster,s Inc. or even a “X hour movie,” but it doesn’t necessarily need to. While the writing is a bit underwhelming, every comedy series needs some time to gain footing. Monsters at Work will have to do more to surprise audiences who are already familiar with this world, but by looking at the unsung heroes of the workplace, it has an interesting and fruitful avenue to explore and a talented voice cast to really sell the whole enterprise should things really get cooking. Though it isn’t Pixar, it still may end up being something serviceable.

Disney has announced the premiere date for their upcoming Monsters, Inc. spinoff series, Monsters at Work, along with the synopsis of the new animated series.
Monsters at Work will premiere on Disney+ on July 2nd and will focus on an eager young scarer, who now has to figure out how to bring in the laughs.
Official Synopsis:
“Monsters At Work” takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley’s discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer, until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in.Ben Feldman stars as the voice of Tylor Tuskmon in the series, which introduces new monster characters alongside returning favorites, including Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan (John Goodman).   I mean, sure, Monsters, Inc. originally hit theaters in 2001. So this animated workplace comedy is clearly timely and ready to build off the momentum of the film’s release from 20 years ago!!
Monsters at Work debuts on Disney+ on July 2nd.
