Silence
Pairing: Azriel x Cassian's twin!healer!reader
Summary: When you get stuck Under the Mountain, your mate finds the sudden silence deafening.
Warnings: none!
a/n: Based on an anonymous request! Requests are so fun! I love exploring ideas I never would have thought of. Keep them coming! This all takes place within the same AU where reader and Azriel kept their relationship secret from the IC (besides Cassian).
Azriel's POV
The silence was deafening. Never in the last 450 years had he felt such empty silence. The bond was never closed.
But now it was silent and cold. The golden thread that joined him to you floated from the middle of his chest, right at the center of his soul, into nothing. He pushed the heels of his hands into his eyes, rubbing until he saw stars, willing this to be a dream he would wake up from. But Azriel knew better than to think this was a dream. He never slept anyway.
“Keep Velaris safe,” Rhys’ voice had said. “And don’t come after us.”
Rhys’ voice was calm, yet commanding. It was the demand of a High Lord: something Azriel physically couldn’t ignore.
At first, he didn’t understand the command. What did he mean, don’t come after us? Keep Velaris safe? You and Azriel had just been having a mental conversation, gossiping over the abhorrent fashion of the Autumn brothers, when Rhys’ voice interrupted you mid-sentence.
But when Azriel reached back out to you to ask what the warning meant, he was met only with the thick, suffocating silence.
The bond was never closed. It stayed open when you were hard at work: treating the injured, delivering babies, or easing the pain of Illyrians’ clipped wings. It stayed open when you were angry, or sad, after an argument, especially if you wanted him to feel particularly bad about it afterward.
The bond was never closed. Not when he went on missions for weeks at a time. Not even when he dragged Rhys’ prisoners to the dungeons of the Hewn City and did unspeakable things. You were his comfort. Your shared emotions were what grounded him, reminded him that life was worth living. They were a constant in his life, as effortless to absorb as breathing.
You had become his inner voice; his conscience. His reminder that he wasn’t the villain of this story. Now that it was gone, he wasn’t sure.
For 450 years, the bond was never closed, a vow the two of you had made when you accepted the mating bond. But now, that silence was louder than any battle or war he had ever partaken in.
The memory of when he had found out you were mates played in his head. Azriel couldn’t keep the memory from flooding into his mind and the guilt that came along with it every time he remembered.
You, covered in blood that wasn’t your own, watching him with worry in your eyes.
“How long have you known?” He remembers asking, venom lacing every word he spat at you. He was angry and embarrassed; how could he have missed all the signs? How could you keep such an important, life altering secret from him? He couldn’t show that embarrassment, couldn’t show weakness, especially not to you. So he chose anger instead.
“Since the day we met,” you replied, taking a step and trying to close the gap between the two of you. Instinctively, Azriel took a step back, the shock turning his embarrassment to shame and anger to rage.
“I was eleven when we met, Y/N,” he hissed, implying the absurdity of the time frame. Nearly a century of his fate was kept a mystery to him. Cassian had joined them at that point, pointedly observing that Azriel wasn’t taking the news well. A thought surfaced in his mind. Turning to Cassian, he has to refrain from advancing on his longest friend. “And how long have you known?” Cassian’s silence was the only answer he needed.
Azriel shook his head to clear it, choosing not to remember how you cried at the way he turned away and left you with your heart in his hands, just for him to crush it.
It all made sense after your confession. He never understood why you insisted on being childhood friends. He was broken and lonely and disowned by his own family, but you had always shown true kindness and friendship. As you grew together, you slowly evolved into innocent adolescence first loves, and eventually adult lovers. It wasn’t until your untimely move from Illyria to Velaris to work for the late High Lord that Azriel never saw you again. That is, until the first war with Hybern and your admission of the truth.
After Azriel had recovered from the initial anger and shock, your best kept secret had become a shared secret as the two of you accepted the bond. He still remembers the first time he heard your voice in his head. Your lovely, soft voice that wrapped around his mind like the sweetest honey.
“Old age getting to you?” You teased as Azriel took what looked like a painful blow to the stomach from Rhys during training.
He was so taken aback by your voice that he even turned to you, thinking you had said it out loud. But you weren’t looking at him; you had your back turned in a combat sequence with your brother.
The momentary lapse rewarded him with another hit from Rhys, this time on the side of the head.
“Everything alright, brother?” Rhys asked, concern flooding his voice.
But Azriel only smirked and turned back to his brother to begin again.
“You’ll pay for that later, love” he responded through the bond and could have sworn that he saw you falter in your training from his peripheral vision.
How could he have let this happen? How could he have not foreseen that you would be taken from him? A mysterious invitation calling for the High Lord and his second in command to attend a party Under the Mountain? What kind of Spymaster couldn’t ascertain the danger that now all-consumed the other half of his soul?
Azriels felt something hit his knees, the sting traveling up to make his teeth chatter. He pulled his hands away from his eyes and saw that he had fallen to the ground of the Townhouse. Cassian quickly knelt in front of him, gripping his shoulders to keep him from total collapse.
Azriel stared at Cassian and saw his lips moving rapidly, but no words came out. He furrowed his brows in confusion. What was he trying to tell him?
In fact, Azriel heard no sound at all besides the buzzing silence in his ears and his own mind hurling insult after insult of his own sad excuse of being a mate.
But wait…that was it. Cassian had turned to the others and Azriel was able to read the words on his lips as he spoke to the remaining Inner Circle in the room: She’s his mate.
All at once, too many voices spoke and the sounds came rushing back to Azriel. As if he would keep him from dissolving through the floor, he gripped onto his found brother for dear life.
“Cassian,” Azriel groaned, finding his voice at last. “Cassian, she’s gone. I can’t feel her.”
“We will get her back, brother. I promise.”

— “You were flirting with me?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: Azriel x fem!reader
summary: You leave Azriel mid-makeout to debrief with your girls
warnings: suggestiveness, the ic being nosey, miscommunication, rhys and cassian knowingly riling az up, the girls get drunk and interrogate reader, the boys get drunk and interrogate az,
amara’s note: this might be the funniest thing i’ve ever written. also sorry for my absence i’m posting more soon💗💗
Tumblr media
You’ve had a massive crush on Azriel since the day you met him. He didn’t really notice you and was somewhat nice to you.
Really, you had no idea how you started crushing on him, I mean he paid you no special attention or anything. Maybe it was because he was quiet, handsome, tall, dark, mysterious and only spoke when it was necessary. He also cracked jokes and flashed grins that made your heart flutter. The Mother knows how much it grated your nerves whenever a male tried to hit or talk to you when you clearly had no desire to.
Azriel was the complete opposite and you started worrying that you were the one who grated on his nerves everytime you tried speaking to him.
“Hi Azriel, how are you doing?” you noticed him sitting at the dining table, collected yourself and asked him.
“Good,” he said staring straight into your soul before he realized his answer wasn’t really socially appropriate so asked you, “How are you?”
You just smiled awkwardly and nodded, “I’m fine, thanks.”
And that was how 90% of your conversations went. There was no further comments or extra questions and fuck if it wasn’t awkward. You really wanted to get to know him but you also knew how impossible it was since even the people he had been friends with for half a millennium often considered him a mystery.
Sensing the weird energy in the room, you just swiftly said goodbye, not bothering to stay to hear his goodbye.
He wanted to ask if you maybe wanted to do something, perhaps eat brunch at the restaurant you talked about to Cassian but you were moving before he had the chance. Azriel got extremely annoyed with himself, wondering why the hell he couldn’t ask you out like a normal person.
With determination, he promised himself to try the next time.
The girls all knew about your very obvious crush on Azriel and encouraged you to approach him often. They were all mated and happy and you wish it was you, you that had a mate, you who got loved and kissed and hugged and fucked.
But you just had to be obsessed with a man that paid you no attention… Maybe that’s why you wanted him, you viewed him as a challenge, and you loved challenges. Despite wanting his attention and wanting to get to know him, you still had self-respect and didn’t act like a pathetic, desperate, love-sick puppy infront of him.
So you went from always greeting him and smiling at him, trying to initiate conversations to flat out ignoring him. I mean, he never talked to you first so maybe it was time to accept it and just admire him from afar.
Azriel began to sense a dullness in his days, a void he couldn't really pinpoint. He realized he hadn’t talked to you, or rather, you hadn't talked to him while he played it cool, trying not to make his beating heart obvious. He noticed the absence of your chatter, questions and lovely voice, realizing that his days grew more mundane and boring without someone asking about his shadows, what his plans were, where he got Truth-Teller.
Azriel observed during dinner that you didn't glance at him once; your attention was solely on the girls or his brothers. You chose to stand up, walk across the dining room and grab the bowl of potatoes beside him instead of asking him for it, and it really irked him. Was he not worthy of passing a simple bowl of fucking potatoes?
He wondered if he had done something to make you avoid talking to him. Despite not being the most talkative person, he paid very close attention to everything you said, even if it seemed unnoticed. Azriel loved your presence and he thought he made his interest in you very clear when he looked at you.
Cassian had said girls like eye contact, still everytime he stared into your soul, you only looked weirded out. Was he doing it wrong? Maybe he wasn’t keeping eye contact long enough.
He had grown extremely fond of your talking and felt empty without it. Finding you alone in the kitchen while you prepared a quick breakfast, Azriel decided it was time to talk. The others had already headed to the training grounds as you had slept in. You were cooking your breakfast, not noticing Azriel.
“Hey.”
You stopped dead in your tracks, frozen in place as you slowly looked up at him. Was he really talking to you? But why?
“Yeah?”
He stayed quiet for a bit, just staring at you in that weird way he always did. Even though he wasn't sure if you liked him back and was afraid of rejection, he still wanted to talk to you.
“How have you been?”
You fight the urge to furrow your brows in confusion. Since when the hell did Azriel care? You were truly baffled and tried to act normal.
“Uh, I’ve been good, you?”
Azriel didn’t like this. He didn’t like this at all.
Usually, you'd spontaneously share every detail of your morning routine, even without him asking. He fucking loved to listen as you talked about your broken hairbrush, the struggle of choosing clothes, the snug fit of your leathers due to gained muscles, and the morning hassle with your hair, prompting you to wake up 20 minutes earlier than usual.
“I’m okay. Have you done anything else today? How is your hairbrush?”
A stupid question really, but Azriel didn’t care. He wanted to see that familiar spark in your eyes as you talked about anything and everything. No way would he ever forgive himself if he ruined something between you.
Your face heated at the fact that he remembered such a minuscule detail about something you said weeks ago.
”Oh, the hairbrush? It broke so I got an enchanted one. Heard it's like a hair miracle, tried it, and it really worked. By the way, your hair looks good. Did you cut it lately?”
Azriel couldn't help but warm up at your rambling. His eyes widened at first, and then he threw his head back and laughed. The deep, rich sound was familiar, yet it never failed to feel like the first time. It was a beautiful and joyful melody that always managed to make you melt on the inside.
"I really missed you," he admitted, feeling your heart pound in your chest, unable to meet his gaze.
"You did?" Azriel's soft smile warmed your heart, the one you'd nearly missed.
"I did. I enjoy being around you and hearing your voice," he confessed.
"Oh, I always thought you didn’t." You couldn't help but feel a mix of surprise and relief.
Stepping closer, Azriel's presence loomed over you, his hand gently lifting your chin.
“Please, don’t misunderstand me. I’m sorry that my silence ever gave you that impression. I thought I was making my interest clear, to be honest,” he murmured, sincerity gleaming in his hazel eyes.
“Okay, I promise I won’t misunderstand again. But why did you think you made yourself clear?” you whispered, feeling a rush of energy as you locked eyes with him.
“Because I made a point of holding prolonged eye contact, thinking it was a clear signal of my interest,” he explained matter-of-factly.
You couldn't help but raise your eyebrows, suppressing a laugh. “So, all those times you were staring at me, you were actually flirting?”
Azriel's expression softened, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. “Well, yes. I thought you knew.”
Suppressing a giggle, you bit your lip and glanced away, not wanting to offend him.
“Ah, not exactly crystal clear, but I understand now. Let’s go for a walk and chat some more,” you suggested, linking your arm through his.
"Sounds perfect. Now, tell me about those new leathers you got," he said, his playful demeanor easing the tension, steering the conversation towards lighter topics.
Over the next few months, the bond between you and Azriel deepened. He trusted you with secrets of his life that remained hidden from everyone else. These private conversations became the pillars of your connection, sweet moments for you only.
As the months went by, an unspoken desire for more lingered between you and Azriel. Yet, despite the magnetic pull, something kept you from going the final step.
You've had countless close moments where you almost kissed, where just a tip-toe closer would have sealed the deal. But it never happened. So close, yet so frustratingly far away.
Mor's question disrupted the laughter and gossiping of the girls' night, the clinking of wine glasses punctuating the anticipation in the air.
"Remind me again why you and Azriel aren’t a couple?”
Mor's curiosity hung palpably, shifting the mood from gossiping to an interrogation.
“Well, it’s kinda complicated,” you replied, swirling the wine in your glass as you gathered your thoughts.
“We have a great connection, but there's this unspoken understanding between us. It’s like there's a boundary we're afraid to cross.”
Amren raised an eyebrow, her sharp eyes observing you closely. “Unspoken understanding? Fancy fucking excuse”
Elain giggled and nodded in agreement.
You chuckled, “Maybe it is, but it’s like we're both tiptoeing around something, afraid to ruin what we have. I mean, do I want to be with him? Yeah, I do. But we might fuck something up and I think we have too good of a relationship to throw it all away.”
Nesta leaned back with a smirk, “Sounds like a case of unresolved sexual tension. Maybe the only cure would be to finally get a good dicking.”
You shot her a look, “You make it sound like a medical condition. Also that has got to be some plot from your smutty books.”
Feyre chimed in, “Maybe it is. Maybe it's time you took a bold step to see what happens. Who knows, it might get you laid.”
The group erupted into laughter, but underneath it, you couldn’t ignore the truth in their words. You liked him, there was no denying it. But did he like you as much?
“Is she dating anyone?” Rhysand’s casual question caught Azriel off guard as he browsed his big wine selections with Cassian while the girls where out of the house.
Azriel feigned ignorance. “Who?”
Rhysand and Cassian exchanged a knowing look. “Y/N. Is she dating anyone?”
Something about the question irked Azriel. “Why the hell do you care?”
Rhysand shrugged nonchalantly. “Just curious. I might set her up with someone.”
Azriel's jaw clenched as he fought to mask his frustration. Rhysand's casual tone grated on his nerves, igniting a simmering jealousy he hadn't realized he harbored. Suppressing a sigh, he forced himself to respond evenly,
“She's a grown female, Rhys. She doesn't need you playing matchmaker for her.”
Cassian chuckled, sensing the tension in the air. “Easy, Az. No need to get defensive. I think little Y/N might want a lover of her own, no?”
Azriel's gaze hardened, a flicker of annoyance flashing in his eyes. “I'm not being defensive. I just don't appreciate your implication. And no, she doesn’t need some lover.”
Rhysand raised an eyebrow, his smirk bordering on mischief. “Interesting. And why is that?”
Before Azriel could formulate a response, you had returned with the girls, your laughter echoing through the room, shifting the focus away from the questions. Azriel sighed, silently cursing Rhysand's annoying questions and the unresolved feelings stirring within him.
You turned off the tap and brought the glass of water to your mouth, much needed after the amounts of wine you and the girls had downed. It was honestly a miracle Mor had the energy to winnow you to the house of wind.
As the girls walked to the library for more drinking, you snuck into the kitchen for some water.
You put down the tall glass of water, swallowing the refreshing and cool drink before your body tingle.
Your stomach flipped, blood heating as your skin broke out in goosebumps.
His presence was undeniable.
Azriel was here.
Turning around to leave the sink, you saw him standing there behind the island, looking at you with a soft look that made your stomach flutter and cheeks heat.
"Hi," Azriel greeted softly as you approached him.
"Hi, Az." you replied, feeling a surge of warmth at the sight of him.
"Did you have fun with the girls?" he asked, his voice gentle.
"Yeah, I did," you answered with a smile as you looked down.
Azriel's lips twitched, and he gently lifted your chin with his pointer and thumb. He looked down at your midnight blue dress and raised his brows
"You look absolutely breathtaking."
Your heart beat faster and faster and you were damn sure your friends upstairs could hear how hard it drummed against your chest.
You leaned into his touch, the move careful and intentional. Azriel’s thumb rubbed against your jaw, your eyes glistening in awe at his handsome self.
”Thank you. It’s nothing special, I just like the color.”
Azriel's gaze softened, his eyes lingering on yours with a tenderness that made your knees weak. "It's not just the color," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "It's you. You’re beautiful."
A blush crept up your cheeks at his words, and you bit your lip nervously, unsure how to respond to such sincerity. But damn, he looked good, and the alcohol in your system made you feel bold enough to speak your mind.
"You look really good," you said, your voice a little breathless. "This shirt suits you."
Stepping closer, you let your hand rest on his sturdy chest, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath your fingertips, the tension between you palpable. Slowly, your hand traveled down to the planes of his stomach, each movement filled with anticipation.
As you looked up at him with a mischievous smile, you played with his belt, the air crackling with the electric energy of the moment. His reaction was immediate, his gaze flickering with desire as the tension between you reached its peak.
Azriel clenched his jaw, his hand moving to the back of your neck, pulling you closer until your breaths mingled. The sudden proximity caught you off guard, making you gasp softly.
"Careful," he murmured, his voice low and tinged with desire. "Let's not do things we can't handle."
Your breath hitched at his words, a shiver running down your spine as his proximity sent electric sparks coursing through you. “That sounds like a challenge, Azriel,” you taunted, your voice barely a whisper.
Azriel’s smirk widened, his gaze burning with intensity. “Consider it an invitation.”
You looked at each other, breathing shallowly. Azriel’s intense gaze softened gradually as his eyes traveled further down to your lips. He swallowed, pupils wide with lust.
"May I-"
"Yes."
It was a tender, sweet kiss that caught you off guard in the best way possible. You didn't expect him to be so gentle, but you welcomed it wholeheartedly.
His touch was tender yet reassuring. One hand cradled the back of your head, while the other wrapped around your waist, drawing you closer to him.
You melted into his embrace, savoring every moment of closeness. Your hands found their way to his neck, clinging to him as if you never wanted to let go.
Azriel’s shadows swirled around you lazily, one trailing up your calf and causing you to twitch in surprise. Pulling back, you were met with his clouded, lustful eyes. A mixture of concern and confusion cleared up his hazy gaze.
Suddenly, the reality of the situation hit you like a ton of bricks. Here you were, in the kitchen, making out with Azriel—the very male you'd had a crush on for what felt like an eternity. Panic surged through you, and you took a step back, needing a moment to collect yourself.
“Are you okay?”
“Mhm, I’m fine, just give me one second,” you managed to stammer out before turning on your heel and practically stumbling out of the kitchen.
With your heart racing and your mind in a whirlwind, you burst into the library where the girls were lounging, each with a glass of wine in hand. Feyre perked up at your arrival, offering a lazy smile.
“There you are, was wondering where you went,” she mused, clearly already feeling the effects of the alcohol.
Without thought, you blurted out the bombshell news. “Guys, Azriel and I kissed.”
The revelation seemed to sober up the entire room, and suddenly, you were bombarded with questions and reactions from your friends.
“Oh my gods, finally,” Mor exclaimed, practically jumping in her seat
“Is he a good kisser? Was it rough or soft? How did he hold you?” Nesta fired off questions, her curiosity piqued.
”All of you owe me 10 cold coins each. I’m always right,” Feyre slumped back in her seat, sipping the wine as she nodded happily.
“I knew you were up to something while we were in here,” Amren chimed in with a knowing smirk.
You grinned widely as you shared all the details with the girls, who were just as excited as you were. They leaned in, eager to hear every bit of the story.
As the questions swirled around you, Elain’s confused expression brought the conversation to a halt.
“Wait, why are you here? Aren’t you supposed to be kissing right now?” she asked, her brow furrowing in confusion.
You froze, the weight of her words sinking in. “Well, yes, we were just... making out, and I had to come here. I panicked.”
In response, your friends practically shoved you back outside, Nesta taking the lead. “And don’t you dare come back until your legs are shaking and you have a big smile on your face,” she declared with a mischievous grin.
You took a deep breath, suppressing your smile as you made your way back to the kitchen. Azriel stood there, leaning against the kitchen island with his feet crossed and arms over his chest.
“Are you sure you’re okay? We don’t have to do anything that makes you uncomfortable,” he said, his voice laced with concern.
You softened at his words, stepping closer and wrapping your arms around his neck. Pulling him down slightly, you gave him a loud kiss that ended with an audible "mwah."
"I really couldn't be more comfortable. I love you, Az. Like a whole lot," you confessed, your voice filled with sincerity and affection.
Azriel's eyes softened at your words, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He brushed a stray strand of hair from your face, his touch gentle and tender.
"I love you too," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "More than I can put into words."
You felt a rush of warmth flood through you at his admission, your heart fluttering with happiness. Without another word, you leaned in and kissed him again, the feeling of his lips against yours sending shivers down your spine.
Azriel grabbed your hips and slowly backed you into the kitchen island. You yelped when he picked you up and put you on the counter, deeping the kiss.
“Let me take you on a date. I want to do this properly,” he whispers breathlessly between kisses as he tucks your hair behind your ear.
You put your hands on his chest lovingly as you nod, smiling up at him. “I’d love that.”
extra scene where rhys and cassian visit azriel in the kitchen:
Azriel stood frozen as you left, his mind going into overdrive, worrying if he had done something wrong. Just as he was about to follow you, Rhys and Cassian popped their heads into the kitchen.
"Yo. Where did she go?" Cassian asked, scanning the empty kitchen.
Azriel furrowed his brows at the pair, or rather their heads.
"What the fuck are you doing here? Go before she comes back," he urged, shooing them away with his hand.
Rhys leaned against the kitchen island, a satisfied grin on his face. "It's about damn time."
Cassian nodded in agreement. "Fuck yeah, took him long enough. But hey, better late than never."
Azriel frowned, feeling the weight of their words. "You guys make it sound like it was some kind of mission."
Rhys chuckled. "In a way, it was. And you finally completed it."
Azriel sighed, "Stop talking like that, you sound fucking ancient.”
Cassian smirked at him, arms over his chest as he said “Y’all kissed?”
Azriel's cheeks flushed slightly at Cassian's question, but he maintained his composure. "Yeah, we did."
Rhys raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint in his eyes. "And?"
Azriel shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "And it was... nice."
Cassian laughed, clapping Azriel on the back. "Nice? Come on, tongue?”
"Yeah, tongue,” he said trying and failing to suppress a smile.
Rhys raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint in his eyes. “I knew it, you little freak. What else?”
Azriel's expression turned guarded. “Okay, that's all you dickheads need to know. Now, get the fuck out before she comes back.”
Rhysand’s eyebrows shot up, a finger wagging in Azriel’s face. “You better not fuck in my kitchen, I swear to the Mother, I’ll make you both scrub every inch.”
Azriel rolled his eyes and ushered them out, leaning against the kitchen island, waiting for you.

✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
It took you a second to register your surroundings.
You knew the house was bound to be nice. After all, Rhysand’s family was loaded. You’d seen it in pictures from previous vacations, in the ones Mor had sent you over past summers when you’d gone back home. But even then, you still hadn't prepared yourself enough. The house wasn't only large and fancy. It was cozy– lived in. And it was absolutely beautiful.
There were little touches everywhere—- knick-knacks and seashells, photo frames, and soft rugs that felt like clouds under your feet. From somewhere deeper in the house, you heard Feyre and Rhys laughing. They had arrived a few hours earlier, settling in and preparing the house for the rest of you. At least, that’s what they told you all.
You and Mor had your suspicions that their reason for such an early arrival was more about having an empty house to mess around in before the rest of you came. You could still hear Mor’s conspiratorial whisper in your ear, teasing about how Feyre and Rhys probably took advantage of the quiet to enjoy some uninterrupted time together.
"They probably wanted to get all the best spots first," Mor had joked on the drive over, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively. You laughed, agreeing silently that Rhysand and Feyre's early arrival was likely more for their own pleasure than out of any noble desire to prepare the house.
From outside, the crunch of gravel under tires announced the arrival of Azriel and Cassian. You heard the low rumble of their car engine idling before it was cut off, followed by the slam of car doors and the muffled sound of laughter.
“C’mon, let me show you your room,” Mor said, placing down a few of her bags and gesturing with her perfectly manicured hand.
You followed her up a set of stairs, taking in the walls lined with art and framed photos. Each frame was unique, from sleek, modern designs to ornate, vintage styles. The artwork ranged from abstract paintings to intricate sketches— and interspersed among the art were photographs capturing various moments. It was easy to spot the ones Mor was in, her blonde hair standing in stark contrast against the raven black of Rhysand and his sister and the dark brown of Azriel and Cassian.
You stopped at one in particular, a photo of Rhys, Cassian, Azriel and Mor standing around a small, circular wooden table. You laughed.
Mor turned around at the sound, a frown on her face as her gaze flickered between you and the gallery before you.
“Oh my god,” she said, quickly backtracking a few stairs down. “Do not look at that.”
But it was too late. You leaned forward to inspect the photo more. Rhysand had braces, Cassian was sporting a terrible haircut, Azriel looked too tall for his frame, and Mor was mid-laugh, a piece of pizza hanging onto the metal outline of her own braces. You let out another laugh, cooing out a sweet Aww at your best friend.
She huffed beside you. ”I’m going to kick you out of this house if you keep staring at it.”
You flashed her a grin. “Aw, c’mon. I love it.”
Mor only gave you a blank look in response. She stayed still, raising an eyebrow impatiently as you grinned, eyes flickering between her and your newfound favorite photo. You reached into your back pocket, fingers grasping the edge of your phone. You itched to have the photo in your camera roll, to be able to send it to Mor as a joke whenever she failed to return your texts.
She registered the movement quickly, letting out a small sound of surprise.
"Absolutely not!”
Mor grabbed your arm before you managed to take a proper picture, pulling you up the stairs behind her as you laughed.
“You realize I can just take a picture later?”
”I’m taking that damn thing down,” she grumbled, “You’re enjoying it too much.”
You let her drag you along, still chuckling as you absorbed the surroundings. The house truly was a perfect blend of comfort and luxury, with wide hallways adorned with art and mementos, and an abundance of windows that flooded the space with natural light. It felt clean– dreamlike, even.
Turning a corner, Mor stopped, opening the door with a large gesture. You stepped inside, eyes widening at the open space. Sunlight poured in from the large windows and a small sliding door framed the ocean view perfectly.
”Oh my god,” you breathed. A sense of peace washed through you.
“I knew you’d love it,” she said with a satisfied grin. “Wait for the best part.”
She walked over and gently slid open the small door, your vision quickly registering the balcony connected to your room. You stepped out, the fresh ocean air hitting you immediately—bringing with it the soothing sound of waves and the tangy scent of salt. The view was breathtaking: an endlessly stretching out horizon with water sparkling under the midday sun.
You closed your eyes, reveling in all of the senses. You could almost feel the stress of the past few weeks melt away, a tangible sense of release rolling through your limbs. You didn’t need to think about grad school applications now, didn’t have to worry about buffing up your resume.
When you opened your eyes, you turned to find Mor watching you with a satisfied, giddy expression. “It’s like a little slice of paradise.”
“More than a little,” you mused as you took in the view before you. “Does everyone have a balcony?”
”Nope,” she replied, “I preferred the nicest shower. But Rhys and I figured you’d want easy access to outside for the same reasons Azriel picked his room.”
She mimicked bringing something to her lips and taking a drag.
You rolled your eyes but a laugh left your lips in spite of yourself. It took you a few seconds before her final words registered and your eyes trailed to the balcony beyond her shoulder, where another little door connected to the space.
Mor followed your movement.
”That’s Az’s room,” she clarified. “You share the balcony.”
”Oh,” you said. Mor gave you another smile. “Cool.”
She let out a small shriek of excitement, grabbing you in a quick hug. “God, I’m so excited for this summer. I get to tan, listen to some music, hang out with my favorite people and get pissed faced drunk.”
”All of your favorite things.”
Her grin grew on her red-painted lips. “Exactly.”
She paused, eyes widening as she dropped her hands from around you, taking a step back as she said, “We need to get drinks!”
Without another word she darted off, calling out for Feyre as she turned the corner and disappeared from your viewpoint.
Your gaze lingered on your open door for a moment before you turned around, walking closer to the edge of the patio. You leaned over the balcony, taking a deep, calm breath. The horizon stretched out before you, waves rolling in a rhythm that seemed to sync with your heartbeat.
You’d always loved the beach, loved the sense of peace that came with being near the ocean. Something about it felt so new— felt so refreshing and lively.
The sound of distant laughter filtered into your ear, and you easily recognized the boisterous cadence of Cassian’s voice. You followed the sound, glancing over towards the glass door of the adjacent room. Through the sliver of his room’s open curtains, you watched as Azriel dropped a bag on his bed, a small smile on his face at something said to him.
You angled your head further.
A nagging voice in the back of your mind reminded you that it might seem odd to be peering into someone else’s space, even if they were your friends. But, they were your friends, weren’t they? It wasn’t weird to be interested in what they were up to, especially when you were all sharing this space for the summer. So you pushed aside the fleeting feeling of unease, convincing yourself that you were simply being sociable and observant.
Azriel lifted his head. You blinked, quickly looking back to the view in front of you in an effort to avoid catching his gaze. You grimaced to yourself, a rush of heat flowing to your cheeks.
Smooth.
You shook your head, gently tapping the balcony railing as you turned around to head back into your room. You made sure to keep your gaze down, to fight the urge for your eyes to flicker towards Azriel’s door.
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
All of the windows in the kitchen were open, filling the space with the fresh scent of ocean breeze. You gave Rhys and Feyre a quick greeting, walking towards one of the opened back doors. The urge to explore the beach and feel the sand beneath your feet pulled at you, calling to you like a siren to a sailor, but you stayed still. The drive here had been lengthy and, as a result, your deep-seated exhaustion weighed heavy on your limbs.
“Thinking of going and looking around?” Feyre asked, a small smile playing on her lips.
"Later, definitely. I’m feeling a bit too tired right now to be in the blazing sun.”
Feyre offered you a knowing nod. “Makes sense.”
The sound of footsteps drew your attention and you turned to see Azriel and Cassian entering the kitchen. The latter's eyes immediately found yours, a grin breaking out on his lips as he walked towards you in three long strides. He wrapped an arm around your shoulder and pulled you into his side.
”God, I missed you,” Cassian said. You resisted the urge to roll your eyes at the comment, knowing full well that you all had met up before making the drive to ensure that you had everything needed. But Cassian always had a flare for the dramatic. So, instead, you just gave him a small laugh and wrapped your arms around him in return.
He pointed to Azriel. “He’s such a bore, dude. He wouldn’t play any games on the road.”
Your gaze flickered over to Azriel. He rolled his eyes.
“Because your games involved me removing both hands from the wheel.”
Cassian shrugged, the movement redistributing the weight of his arm around your shoulders. “So?”
”So?” Azriel retorted. He opened his mouth to say more, but with a quick scan of Cassian’s face led him to closing his mouth and offering another eye roll. Azriel then turned his attention to you, holding your gaze as he offered you a smile.
”Hey, Y/n.”
His voice was much softer than a few seconds ago, a different tone than that he had used with Cassian.
You smiled back. “Hi, Az.”
You weren’t sure what to do next, torn between wanting to give him a small hug and the presence of Cassian’s arm around you. Az held your gaze for another moment before he walked past. You took in his figure, briefly noticing the change in his attire from this morning when you’d seen both him and Cassian. His long, black pants were now replaced by black shorts, instead. Before your stare could linger, Mor entered from the opened porch door, kicking off the sand-covered shoes she wore as she stepped into the house’s threshold.
”Oh great, you’re all here,” she said, pushing her sunglasses up onto her head. “Cass, are you ready to go?”
”Yup,” Cassian responded excitedly. He separated himself from you, casting a quick glance down at your form. “Wanna come?”
”Where are you guys going?”
Mor and Cassian answered simultaneously, “Liquor store.”
You raised an amused brow. “Have we become too fancy to just go to a grocery store?”
Mor shrugged. “I like my options.”
From across the kitchen, Rhys wrapped an arm around Feyre's torso, a cheeky grin on his face as he leaned forward to place his chin on her shoulder. “And yet, Mor, you always manage to return with a bottle of wine and a pack of white claws.”
Mor offered him a scowl. ”Shut it.”
”Actually,” Feyre hummed, “While you guys are out can you grab some groceries? I have a list. I can text it to you.”
Mor and Cassian exchanged a glance. “Sure, but it might take a while.”
Feyre arched an eyebrow. From beside her, Rhys rolled his eyes. “Why?”
It was Azriel who responded to her question, “Because they’re probably planning to 'taste test' everything they buy. So then they'll be sitting there and waiting it out until they can drive again."
You glanced over at him, watching as a sly smirk tugged at the corners of his lips. The hazel of his eyes were bright now, more visible with the sunlight pouring through the windows. There was a glint of amusement in them as he met your gaze.
Morrigan let out a sound of mock offense. Cassian grinned. You laughed, giving him a playful swat with your hands. It only made his grin grow further.
”I can grab it, Feyre,” you said, “Cass and Mor can go on the alcohol run alone.”
She gave you a grateful smile, but a flicker of concern furrowed her brow. “Are you sure? It’s kinda a lot for one person.”
You frowned. “How many things are we buying?”
“I figured we should make as many meals to counterbalance the amount we’re spending on drinks.”
You clicked your tongue. “Smart.”
She tossed a glance over her shoulder, meeting the studying gaze of her boyfriend. “I can go with you.”
Rhysand instantly frowned and mumbled under his breath, but you failed to catch his words as Azriel’s voice chimed in behind you.
”I can go.”
He stood next to you and you looked up at him, meeting his eyes for a fleeting second. He smiled.
“And I can drive.”
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
The list Feyre had given you was indeed a lot— and all over the place.
Az trailed after you, pushing the large shopping cart as you slowly scanned the shelves in front of you. The car ride with him had been quiet, but it was the type of quiet you often yearned for— the comfortable kind that made you feel at home. He'd opened your car door for you, a gesture so casual and natural that you hadn't fully registered it until you were sitting in his front seat, pulling your seatbelt on. For some reason, the act had yet to leave your mind.
"What do you need?"
Azriel' braced his forearms on the cart's handle, leaning forward as he waited for your answer. Your gaze fell to the silver chain that dangled from his neck, now freed from its usual place hidden underneath his shirt.
"Y/n?"
You blinked. "Yeah?"
Azriel's brows furrowed slightly and he straightened his posture, pushing the cart closer to you. "Feyre's list," he clarified, "What's on it?"
You let out a small oh of realization, offering Azriel your phone in order for him to read off Feyre's comprehensive list of groceries. You switched places, Azriel maneuvering around the cart to look around the store. Your phone looked so strange in his hand and you suddenly regretted offering it to him instead of forwarding the text. You grimaced to yourself, mentally praying that your parents didn't message you— that no strange, unpromising alert flashed across your screen as he held it. The feeling that now flushed your body was the same cold, unrealistic panic that you felt when you traveled— when you'd go through airports and suddenly stress yourself into thinking you'd accidentally packed a live firework or a bomb.
Azriel had made it across an aisle by the time you reeled your thoughts back in. You let yourself fall behind his steps, observing him as he walked along the various cereal boxes.
There was a time where you'd believed that you and Azriel could be more than friends— back in freshman year when you'd first met. It was an instant spark, something so electric even Mor had felt it, had spent weeks making jokes about your crush. And months later you'd found yourself in that room with Azriel, inches away from his face on halloween night, lips still tasting of the fruity drink Cassian had made for you.
But nothing happened— not then, not after.
Two years had passed since and so much had changed. Not only within your life, but with Azriel himself.
He looked different now. His hair was longer— still cropped enough at the sides to show that dangling dagger earring you'd always loved— but long enough on top where his curls were on full display. He'd grown those out in the past two years, had stopped cutting his hair too short for them to show. He was tanner now, too, his golden brown skin holding an even darker sun-kissed glow— but you attributed that to the summer sun rather than the years.
It all fit him so well.
Azriel turned to face you, two large boxes of cereal in either hand. You straightened yourself, fixing your posture as hastily as a child caught watching something they shouldn't have been. If Azriel noticed anything, he didn't make any indication, opting to ask you about which cereal the others would prefer.
You both managed to switch again, Az taking his place pushing the cart as you examined the various boxes on the shelves in front of you. There were only a few more things left on Feyre's list and it felt like an internal fight to find all the items before the grocery store's white light lured you to an eternal sleep— or a well needed nap.
"You excited?"
You looked over at Azriel, meeting his hazel eyes instantly. While his face seemed neutral, you could see the hint of enjoyment that danced in his eyes, a golden-hued green that made you smile instinctively. "Yeah," you said, "It'll be a fun summer.”
Azriel made a sound akin to an appreciative, agreeable hum. The aisles felt narrower the more you walked alongside him, feeling the ghost of his touch as you brushed against him with every step.
"And for the festival?" He asked.
Your smile grew larger at this.
The festival was actually one of the things you were most excited for this summer—aside from the general premise of being with everyone, of course. Summit Pulse was three days of live music, featuring over 80 artists across multiple stages. From indie bands to electronic DJs, Summit had been a dream of yours to attend since freshman year—the same time you'd first learned that Mor and Rhys had a beach house in the same city it was hosted.
"Very," you tossed him a glance before you pulled out three boxes of instant Mac n Cheese. "And I can imagine you are too."
You were sure of it. Your shared love of music was one of the things you and Azriel had bonded about originally. You still remembered the first time you'd hung out with him outside of your Intro the Philosophy class, sitting on the couch in the apartment he shared with Cassian and Rhysand. You'd spent most of the night looking at each other's music— analyzing your saved playlists and talking about the various concerts you'd been to.
Az's smile grew, a single dimple appearing on his cheeks as the corners of his eyes crinkled. "You'd be correct," he replied. A small pause followed before he said, "I think I just need to get the energy for it."
You laughed, stopping in place to turn around and look at him. "Me too," you admitted. The exhaustion from early had started to rear its ugly head again and your legs still ached with the long car ride. You let out a small tired sigh, running a hand along your face. Azriel's eyes traced the movement.
"I am really excited,” you said, “But god, I'm so exhausted. I'm glad we have a few days for me to mentally prep."
Az raised a brow. "I can imagine. You've had quite the semester."
You titled your head in response, brows falling into a subtle, confused furrow.
"Mor told me how hard you guys were working, that your professors weren’t very accommodating.”
You raised a single brow at his wording and the corners of Azriel’s lips twitched upwards. “Alright,” he added with an amused shake of his head. “She said your professors were assholes who needed to get laid.”
You let out a small snort at this, an unintended response that you would’ve felt embarrassed about had it been anyone but Azriel in front of you. His smile seemed to quirk up further.
"Mor was right. It was a rough semester to say the least.”
For more reasons than you'd been willing to let on. Yes, your coursework had gotten a lot more demanding, but it wasn't just schoolwork that tired you out. Mor and Feyre had already started their grad school applications, spending nights in the libraries making pros and cons lists for every school each of you were interested in. Their plan was to find places close enough to one another, to settle in one city and get a large apartment together. Your grad school applications had remained untouched— you had no schools in mind. No programs. No connections.
"I can also imagine your breakup didn't help with it all," Az said. His voice was quieter now, as if he was unsure of the words he was speaking. You held his gaze as he looked at you. "I'm sorry about that, by the way."
You shrugged. "I'm not."
It was the truth. Eris had been a great boyfriend, sure, but you weren't overtly heartbroken over the breakup. You’d met Eris in a Political Science class and despite your initial impression of him, he’d grown on you fast. He was a sweetheart at his core but you simply didn’t mesh as well as you once thought. The breakup was inevitable in the same way that it was amicable, mutual, and very much needed.
Something flickered across Azriel’s face and his gaze darkened. He straightened himself, his posture now emphasizing the height he held over you. "Why?" Azriel said, voice low. "Did he do something?"
His response made your mouth go dry for a fleeting second. Azriel and Eris always had a long-standing hatred for each other that you’d never truly understood. It traced back to some events that had transpired during their high school years, this you knew, but your knowledge stopped at that. Your relationship with Eris had definitely distanced you from your friends— Mor and Azriel to be specific, but now that things were finally beginning to feel normal again, you didn’t want to ruin it.
"No, no," you quickly clarified, offering him a reassuring smile. His shoulders seemed to relax at your answer and you swallowed as you took in his face again, gaze still entirely focused on you.
You cleared your throat before turning yourself around to examine the shelves once more with new interest. "He was a good boyfriend to me. But it wasn't going anywhere and I felt like he was distracting me from more important things."
Reaching up, you attempted to grab a box on the top shelf, recognizing it as the last of those granola bars that Mor used to hoard in her cupboard. The box remained out of reach with every stretch of your hand.
"So no more distractions for you?"
Before you could respond to his question, Azriel was behind you, leaning over you to effortlessly grab the box from the shelf. He wasn't touching you, his chest still a respectable distance away from your back, but you felt the warm presence of him on your skin all the same. Your stomach did a small flip and you found yourself releasing a breath you hadn't realized you'd sucked in.
Azriel offered the box to you. You looked up at him, gently grabbing it with pinkened cheeks. You chose your next words carefully.
"Only meaningful ones."

meddling, pt. 4
pairing: azriel x reader
word count: 4.6k - we have a lot of ground to cover with this one
summary: reader accompanies azriel to an event at the house of wind that rhys is hosting for the summer court. fluff, angst, and jealous (borderline murderous) azriel ensue.
also based around this request: would you consider writing a protective/jealous azriel? like maybe someone is getting a little too comfortable with his mate lol
a/n: so sorry for all of the slow-burn pining that has taken place thus far. i think you'll find that this part will make up for that. as always, pls leave feedback! hope you love it <3
read parts one, two, and three
Tumblr media
rhysand was hosting a courtly event at the house of wind this evening. you weren't quite sure of the political details regarding the whole thing, but you'd deduced that tarquin would be visiting from the summer court after hearing various brief conversations that cropped up during meals.
such as the one that took place during dinner at the town house the night before.
"so, rhys, what exactly is the nature of this party we're hosting for summer?", cassian had asked, shoveling a spoonful of roasted vegetables into his mouth mid-sentence. a few droplets of the lemon & herb sauce had escaped his spoon, splattering against his bearded chin. you'd smiled at the sight, azriel hiding his own huff of laughter behind the rim of his wine glass.
rhys leveled his brother with a blank stare, shaking his head in mock disappointment at cassian's less than stellar table manners.
"it is not a party, cass," rhys drawled, sounding bored. "tarquin is visiting to discuss a few matters regarding the new treaty. however," rhys paused, taking his own sip of wine, "he's also bringing varian and cresseida," another pause, "and i believe - fifty others from his court," rhys finished, pushing his fingers into his temples.
cassian snorted, raising a dark eyebrow, "so - a party," he smirked, resting his elbows on the dark wooden table before him. "i propose we break out the expensive booze for the occasion," cass stated, attempting to use his most noble voice.
you met azriel's amused gaze from across the table, a dimpled smile spreading across his cheeks once you'd both locked eyes.
he shook his head in feigned exasperation at cassian's antics, and you'd nudged the toe of his boot with your own under the table, huffing a laugh.
"cassian, you will be on your best behavior," rhys stated, pointing a lithe finger in the war general's direction. "you're already on thin ice with summer - we need not encourage them to send more blood rubies our way," the high lord exhaled, stabbing a fork into his piece of roast.
you'd cleared your throat then, sitting up a bit straighter in your chair.
"am i allowed to join?", you'd asked. every head at the table lifted to look at you, surprised expressions on their faces. as comfortable as you'd become around the family, you still really only engaged with azriel on a consistent basis. and, as isolated as you'd been during your first few months residing at the house, no one truly expected you to willingly participate in this not-party.
your eyes darted from rhys' pleased expression over to azriel's honeyed gaze. he peered at you tenderly, with eyes that looked like hazel pools of pride.
he was, indeed, proud. proud that you'd spoken up, proud that you'd asked to join the rest of them for a gathering that would have otherwise made you feel the need to hide yourself away in your rooms only a few months ago.
"of course you can, sweet y/n," rhys said, voice oozing delight and charm.
your smile threatened to split your face in half, and you found azriel's eyes again. he nodded once, encouragingly. his own smile grew marginally, a dimple peeking through.
he tried his best to hide his budding fondness towards you around the rest of his family - especially cassian. his brother would never let him hear the end of it, otherwise. such busybodies, all of them. azriel was terrified of his family's meddling tendencies potentially spooking you in the opposite direction.
but, even with all of that being said, azriel couldn't help the words that spilled from his lips before he could stop them:
"uh -," he set his wine glass down gently - holding the stem between his fingers, swirling the liquid once, "you can accompany me, if you'd like to. if that would make you more comfortable," he said confidently, voice unwavering.
if his family had to witness him asking you to be his plus one to a formal party, the least he could do was sound like he wasn't nervous to do so. but, he was. he was very nervous.
however, the butterflies in his chest threatening to rip through his skin and flurry throughout the room only thrashed harder when he watched the way your eyes lit up at the offer.
your gaze flit around quickly, surveying everyone else's expressions - you were met with soft smiles as the family silently watched the sweet exchange. and then there was cassian, sporting a smug smirk as he pushed the food around on his plate.
you looked back to azriel, his expression soft, his fingers tapping quietly at the base of his wine glass.
"i would love to, az," you said graciously, and you sent another nudge to the toe of his boot with your own foot under the table - a 'thank you' said in a language that only the both of you spoke.
Tumblr media
now, tonight, you were preparing for said event - having no idea what to expect. what you did know, though, was that you were attending it with azriel. a fact that definitely added a bit of pressure to the evening.
you knew that az would be a perfect gentleman, as he had been since you'd met him nearly eight months ago. but, you were developing very loud feelings for him - feelings that you were unable to shrink and contain in a quiet corner within your heart and mind any longer. they were boiling over, pushing and shoving to make themselves known.
and, honestly, if he didn't reciprocate those feelings, you weren't sure how you'd recover. this was not just some juvenile crush - azriel had helped mend together the pieces of you that were left jagged and splintered upon arriving in velaris. after your past, after the shattering pain you'd become used to, azriel had taken gentle hands and sanded away your abrasive edges.
you took a deep breath, studying your appearance in the floor-length mirror that was propped against your armoire. nuala and cerridwen had assisted you in getting ready for tonight, and honestly, you almost didn't recognize yourself.
your hair was set in long, elegant, loose curls down your back - the skin there exposed due to the gown you'd chosen. a black, silk, floor-length number that appeared as though tiny stars had been woven throughout the fabric. your makeup was beautiful - glowy and fresh. you looked happy. you looked like you belonged.
you were stunning, and you'd hoped your chosen ensemble would turn the head of the one male you couldn't stop thinking about.
little did you know, azriel hadn't been able to turn away from you since you'd arrived.
Tumblr media
it was now half-past-seven, and you knew az would be knocking on your door soon to escort you downstairs for the party.
azriel shut his own bedroom door, waiting for the quiet click of the latch before descending down the hall to your chambers. he tugged on the left sleeve of his suit jacket, worrying over the fit of the formal clothing he'd chosen for the evening.
he stopped in front of your door, and opted to readjust his silver chain - a beautiful gift you'd given him only a month prior - to assure it laid correctly, before knocking. his wings twitched in anticipation, and he really hoped he wasn't over-dressed. he glanced down at his black dress shoes, his black slacks. he frowned, slipping a hand into his pocket to fidget with truth-teller nervously.
before his thoughts became too loud, too stifling, he heard your doorknob turn from the opposite side of the threshold.
and there you stood, in a dress that very well may have been sewn and stitched with the sole intention to bring him to his knees in front of you.
that, paired with your innocent eyes peering right up at him had azriel malfunctioning.
his mouth opened and closed several times as he took you in. open. close. open - you thought he may finally say something, but, alas, he closed it again.
while his mind was spinning, thrashing, screaming, his shadows had gone eerily still.
cauldron... boil me, was the only clear thought that he was able to translate from within the absolute stirring storm that was happening internally.
should he bow? he felt the overwhelming urge to drop to his knees and worship you like you had created him with your own hands.
speak, you fool, he commanded himself, realizing that the silence had stretched on for far too long.
"you-", he forced out, swallowing hard. "i am very lucky to have you on my arm this evening," he spoke, taking all of you in once more. you'd placed a dainty gold necklace around your neck, one that trailed right between your cleavage and down the front of your dress. azriel took that detail in now, his fingers twitching at the sight of it.
and you, well. you were struggling to keep your own composure from where you stood. this male in a suit was absolutely devastating. a suit that hugged his tall, muscular form so well, you'd wanted to personally thank the individual who tailored it.
the chain. your eyes snagged on the chain almost immediately. it sat against his bare clavicle, and that's when you'd realized that his chest was showing completely. he'd left the top three buttons of his black, silk dress shirt undone. his tan skin, marked with swirling illyrian ink, showing, and a chain?
you'd really hoped that cassian had convinced rhys to serve the expensive booze tonight. you were going to need it.
Tumblr media
the party was progressing along, and after a few glasses of lavish wine, you'd felt loose enough to unabashedly enjoy yourself. azriel was doting, attentive. he'd provide you with a refilled glass every now and then without you even having to ask. he'd paraded you throughout the busy space with a chaste hand on your lower back - your exposed lower back. the feeling of his silver rings against your bare skin sent a bolt of lightening up your spine each time he guided you throughout the room. he'd gently check on you every now and then, asking how you were feeling, if you felt okay, if you needed anything.
and as the night further progressed, and more drinks were had, you found yourself leaning into his strong frame as you both mingled with various partygoers.
azriel had loosened up quite a bit himself - his own drinks allowing him to open up a bit more than usual. wide smiles were being thrown your way more frequently now, and his affectionate hands had found your body on several occasions as if they were acting on instinct.
he leaned into your ear, making sure his next words were only for you.
"you are stunning," he'd said in a gravelly voice, a single wing wrapping around your back as he spoke. he pulled back to take a sip of his drink, his eyes never leaving yours in the process.
you'd blushed, face on fire. but, the alcohol had made you a bit bolder than normal, so you unabashedly placed a hand on his bare chest as you took your turn leaning into him.
"i was hoping you'd think so," you said, your voice smooth as the silk you were wearing. your eyes traveled along the expanse of his face. his long lashes, freckled nose, full lips. your gaze landed on that damned chain once again, and you trailed your tongue across your lips subconsciously.
azriel tracked the movement, his breath hitching at the sight of you. the wing wrapped around your back tugged you in a bit closer to his body, and you stumbled slightly in your heels before pressing your shoulder into his.
"i always think so," he whispered, matter-of-fact.
you paused with your wine glass halfway to your mouth, locking your clouded gaze with his own molten-honey eyes.
he stared back, unblinking. he felt as though his chest was going to cave in. you were ruining him in the best way possible. his slightly drunk mind was swimming in thoughts of you, and he did not care if he drowned right where he stood.
just then, a tendril of shadow darted to the shell of azriel's ear, whispering something that only he could hear. you watched his expression drop momentarily, his shoulders slumping slightly.
"i'll be right back, okay? rhys, he-," he started, huffing out an exhale. "just, i'll be right back," he swallowed, downing the rest of his glass in one go. he was clearly disappointed in the interruption of your intimate moment, a moment that really seemed like it may have ended with his lips on yours.
he went to turn around, his wings tucking in tight to his back in preparation of having to push through a crowd of people. he reached an arm back behind him, wrapping a scarred hand around your wrist. peering over his broad shoulder, he met your eyes.
"will you be okay?," he paused, searching your features for any sign of discomfort at the prospect of being left alone.
you smiled, nodding once, "i'll be at the refreshments table - i need a refill," you offered, nodding your chin towards the large, extravagant spread at the other end of the room.
he nodded, offering you a dimpled smile.
"i won't be long, promise," he said, squeezing your wrist gently in a reassuring gesture.
you watched as he disappeared into the crowd, only the apex of his wings peeking over the heads of party-goers.
you loosed out a breath, making your own trek to the opposite end of the room with the sole purpose of refilling your glass.
Tumblr media
you stood next to the exorbitant spread of food and drinks placed around the massive refreshments table, taking everything in with your back to the crowd. you were lost in thought about how much effort rhys put into this entire evening, how detail-oriented he was in his planning, when you felt a warm hand on your bare shoulder.
a hand that you knew was not azriel's.
you peered over your shoulder hesitantly, immediately feeling nerves flood your chest and stomach. you knew almost no one here tonight, aside from azriel and the inner circle - the amount of guests from summer out-populated your small group in excess.
and sure enough, your eyes met those of a summer court male, his orbs twinkling as he took in your appearance appreciatively. he made no effort to hide the way that his gaze raked over your form from head-to-toe, his eyes traveling all the way down to your heeled feet before they snapped back up to your face.
"well," he crooned, "i knew rhys hid away the good liquor, but i had no idea that he was in favor of hiding beautiful females, too," he purred, stepping a fraction closer to you. you turned to face him completely now, arms crossing over your chest to hide yourself from his wondering eyes.
"what's your name?," he continued, pausing to sip his drink, "and more importantly, where have you been?", his eyes sparkled, pure male confidence oozing from every pore on his body.
you opened your mouth, eyes flitting around the room to plot a potential escape route. you were not comfortable. not at all.
az, please come back, come back, come back, you chanted silently, your eyes dancing around the room quickly in hopes of spotting the tips of his wings amongst the large crowd. he knew that you'd be here - in this general area. surely, he'd come straight here to find you. right?
the male before you tutted quietly, grasping your chin with his thumb and pointer fingers to turn your head back towards him, wanting your full attention. he was also wearing rings, but his jewelry didn't have the same gut-twisting affect on you as azriel's had. no, your gut twisted now for a completely different reason.
"eyes on me, little one," he cooed, brushing a strand of hair from your face. you bristled, internally recoiling at his touch, at the term of endearment he'd bestowed on you.
the summer male's hand went to your shoulder, his fingers grazing the skin as they traveled down your bare arm.
"be careful," you heard a familiar voice snarl from beside you. his tone was cold, rough, and left no room for discussion.
azriel.
the male before you dropped your gaze immediately, standing up straighter in az's newfound presence. he dropped his hand back to his side, his fingers twitching as he stepped back from you - curiously eyeing azriel instead.
"ah, the shadowsinger," the man said, attempting to sound far more confident and at-ease than he obviously was. "to what do i owe the pleasure?," the summer male continued, swishing the wine around in his glass.
you didn't miss the way his eyes flashed with unease, and you almost let a smirk form at the sight. you glanced over at azriel, his shadows now swirling around him in agitation. his honey eyes, normally flooded with so much soft, affectionate warmth when settled on you, were now hard, narrowed, and full of ice. this was the feared shadowsinger of the night court - a side of him you had yet to see.
"you'd be wise to walk away," azriel started, his voice sharp. his hand found your lower back, much like it had the entire evening. except this time, it felt claiming, possessive. the cold metal of his rings were a nice reprieve from how warm your skin had become due to this entire interaction.
the male faltered for a moment, but he tried his best to glom onto the last fragment of dignity he had left. "now, now, azriel. there's no need to cause a scene over a female," he spat the word as if he were disgusted by it, and you felt azriel's hand twitch against your skin.
"i've caused a scene for far less," azriel deadpanned, voice lathered in irritation, "and mind how you address her," he continued, "i'd love nothing more than to personally deliver the hand that you used to touch her right back to tarquin's front gates," azriel's deep voice was death personified, and the summer male before you was smart to heed the warning. he exhaled a clipped breath before turning on his heel - striding away into the crowd and out of sight.
azriel let a low growl rumble deep within his chest as he kept his eyes locked on the retreating male, his eyes narrowed. he only allowed his gaze to find yours once he was sure you were both safe from his lingering presence.
you turned your body toward his, azriel's hand still splayed across your lower back. you had no idea what to say, where to start. there were too many emotions to sort through, too many feelings to give names to - and the liquor circulating through your veins wasn't helping, either.
he watched your expression carefully, his eyes softening - the way they always did once he'd sought you out. he rubbed your lower back affectionately, his pointer finger tracing small shapes across your skin.
"sorry," he finally muttered, his eyes searching your own, trying to gauge how you were feeling. he'd never wanted you to see that side of him - that cruel side of him that was able to inflict unimaginable pain and suffering onto the unfortunate soul at the other end of his blade. he didn't want you to run in the opposite direction, although he wouldn't blame you if you did.
after all, as someone who was so used to being shrouded by darkness and shadows, he'd come to believe that he didn't deserve to sunbathe in the light. and that's what you were - a blinding, all-compassing, warm beam of radiance.
his reaction to the summer male was instinctual, second-nature. and that particular reaction was azriel grasping onto every ounce of restraint that he could muster. his knee-jerk urge involved putting the knife in his pocket to good use.
"sorry?," you questioned, brows furrowing. "azriel, for what?", you continued, stepping closer to him, every instinct in your body compelling you to comfort him, to smooth out the concerned lines that had formed between his brows. to wash away the ashamed look that was threatening to flood his amber eyes.
"that-," he sighed, clearing his throat, "i shouldn't have acted that way," he finished, reaching up to absentmindedly run his fingertips across the chain that hung around his neck.
you tilted your head to the side curiously, "i'm glad that you did," you confided, "he made me horribly uncomfortable," and azriel bristled once more at the notion, at the idea of another male intruding on your personal space - going as far as to touch you.
his nostrils flared, and you offered him a comforting smile, wanting so badly to calm him down. you tipped your chin towards the outdoor balcony, resting a hand on his upper arm.
"i'm in the mood for some fresh air," you spoke, stepping around the side of his body to begin leading the way to the large glass doors that led outside. "join me?", you met his gaze hopefully, and azriel wondered if you knew that he would never say no to anything that you asked of him.
he nodded once, his hand still firmly splayed across your lower back. he followed you through the crowd and took his place beside you once more as you approached the balcony railing.
you stayed silent, peering up at the twinkling stars that blanketed the night sky. azriel glanced over at you, both of his hands now taking purchase on the railing.
your mirrored his actions, resting your own hands next to his as you leaned over slightly to take in the sight of velaris below - mesmerized by the smoking chimneys, the bright lights of the rainbow, and the sidra that flowed amongst it all.
"so beautiful," you whispered to yourself, awestruck by the picturesque view spread out before the two of you. it was so extravagant, a living, breathing work of art.
azriel swallowed, his eyes boring into the side of your face. he nodded once, "beautiful," he agreed on a breath, but he wasn't referring to the same view that you were.
the starlit sky perfectly matched the dress that looked as though it was poured over your body, and azriel didn't have much composure nor restraint left in him. not after the last few months, not after he'd seen you in his clothing, not after the affectionate glances and nervous touches shared between the both of you in a room full of others that had no clue, not after sitting across from you for dinner each night - where he'd started looking forward to your little foot nudging his own beneath the table, and not when another male had just tried to sweep you away from him.
his wings flared momentarily, the action allowing him to release some tension before they settled proudly against his back once again.
he stared at you for a moment longer, before touching that chain around his neck one last time - grounding him, giving him courage.
"y/n," he whispered, his large right hand lifting from the railing momentarily - before gently placing it right on top of your much smaller, softer one.
you looked over at him then, expectantly. you were so beautiful. so soft, so elegant, so perfect.
"i'm going to kiss you. do you think that would be alright?", he asked on softly, taking a deep breath of crisp evening air.
your eyes widened, and you blinked. your cheeks turned the sweetest shade of pink as your processed his question.
you felt frozen - of course that would be alright. you'd daydreamed about this moment for months. how his lips would feel, taste, how they'd move. would he be rough, gentle, would he use his tongue to explore your mouth? where would his hands go, where would your hands go? what if you were bad at-
just kiss him already, you scolded yourself, and before you could allow your nerves to take over, you nodded eagerly, a bashful smile creeping across your rosy features.
azriel exhaled a breath he didn't even realize he'd been holding, had almost convinced himself that he'd been rejected. he wouldn't have been wholly surprised, but still - it would have been agonizing all the same.
he stepped closer to you, his gentle fingers splaying across the left side of your jaw. as he angled your face upwards towards his, he allowed his thumb to caress the skin of your cheek, smiling at the warmth he felt from your perpetual blush.
"i've been thinking about this for so long," he whispered, ghosting his lips across your own. he shuddered at the feeling, the contact.
finally, he thought to himself.
you nodded, placing a hand on his bare chest.
"me too," you whispered back, nuzzling the tip of your nose against his. his other hand gripped your waist at the action, squeezing once.
and upon hearing your reciprocated want, azriel surged forward, his lips finding yours immediately, as if he'd done this for centuries. it wasn't rough, but it definitely wasn't gentle. you could feel months of repressed want flowing through the both of you, clashing where your lips met. exploding into fireworks and stars, creating vibrant new galaxies at the contact.
he squeezed your waist once more, feeling the fabric of your dress between his fingers. a soft groan trickled up his throat and directly into your mouth, and you almost burst into flames at the sound.
your hand slowly slid upward, caressing the bare skin of his chest before gripping his chain into your fist. and of course, this sent thoughts that were far from innocent cascading into azriel's muddled brain. he pulled back from the kiss, only a fraction, and his knees almost buckled beneath him when you chased his swollen lips with your own.
he leaned into you, pulling at your bottom lip with his teeth gently, and you let out a reactive whimper at the feeling. his head was swimming, and as much as azriel prided himself on being a gentleman, you were eliciting feelings that were too overwhelming, too much. his instincts were screaming at him to lie you down, spread you across his mattress, really show you how much you made him feel.
he pulled you against him, his wings wrapping around the both of you - to shield you from sight, to keep you warm, to bring you closer.
his lips met yours again, and his hands traveled from your waist, back up to your jaw, holding your face between his hands as if he were granted the honor of holding the most precious jewel ever discovered.
he supposed, in that moment, he was.
finally, he pulled away, placing a gentle kiss to the tip of your nose. he brushed loose strands of your hair behind your ears, smiling fondly at you.
"gods," he whispered, catching his breath. "you are such a dream," he finished, taking all of you in hungrily. he would never be satiated enough, not now that he's finally tasted you.
you sucked your lower lip into your mouth, still tasting him there, and his pupils dilated at the action.
smiling, you reached up to wrap your arms around his neck, playing with the clasp of his chain, "speaking of dreams," you mused, "i've been dreaming of this for a very, very long time," you smiled, playing with the cluster of curls at the nape of his neck.
"well, i hope i didn't disappoint," he teased, his hands finding your waist once more, fingertips grazing the exposed skin of your back.
you huffed out a laugh, resting your forehead against his bare chest, "you know," you started, tone laced with mock contemplation, "i wasn't able to really tell," you glanced up at him with a smirk.
azriel cocked an eyebrow, smirking down at you knowingly.
"i think we should try again, just to be sure," you quipped.
azriel laughed, a beautiful, melodic sound.
you didn't have to tell him twice.

GOLD STAR FOR YOU
Acotar Crack Headcanons
In which Reader introduces gold star stickers in the bedroom. Reader x everybody. Poly type deal. And it is most definitely a competition. There are sticker charts. Gold prize - for the male with the most stickers? A week alone with reader. No interruptions. No sharing.
(This crack list is brought you especially by the shared brain rot with @chairofchaos . Please enjoy our devolution into smut headcanons that tonight has brought us.)
Azriel:
Confused at first
When he realizes he’d be SO into the competition element
So competitive
“How many does this get me” as he’s just pounding
“And this?”
It devolves because you stop being able to give him stickers
“What about this, baby? What if you can’t walk tomorrow? How many stickers do I get then?”
You can’t do a damn thing about it as the sticker sheets fall from your hand
But when you’re done
The two of you curled up together
You take the whole sheet and start giving him stickers, one by one
He’s smirking as you line them up in rows along his chest and arms
Then you finally put one on his nose, grinning as you recall the feeling of his head between your legs
“It was that good, huh? Maybe we’d better try to one up ourselves. See how many stickers I earn from you then.”
Helion:
Catches on quickly
He goes out that day to buy his own sticker sheets
Likes to give them to you too
Gives himself gold stars for how often he can make you moan
“Yep… that’s another one FOR ME”
Gives zero fucks about the overall competition
He just likes being in competition with himself
Puts the stickers on his nipples like pasties with a shit eating grin
Eris:
You reach back to place a sticker on his thigh
He stills immediately
When you explain it, he’s so hurt about being interrupted
“What the fuck? What is this childish game?”
“Do not place your shiny sticker on me, woman.”
“I am doing sexy things here – leave me be”
He peels it off his thigh, sticks it on the small of your back and keeps going
He still kisses the star when he’s done
“So the stickers are a no?”
He’d sigh and kiss your forehead
“Just tell me first next time. I don’t like surprises.”
Cassian:
Has monkey brain - is super into it
“STICKERS? SAY LESS”
Adds his own prizes to the mix
Is competitive but really just cares about making you feel GOOD
The stickers and prizes are just a bonus.
Walks around shirtless just to show off his stickers
“These are my rewards! Don't you like them?”
He has a sticker chart on the back of the bathroom door where he collects his stickers at the end of each day.
Eventually he just starts sticking them to random things around the house - mirrors, his daggers, the kitchen cabinets.
Lucien:
You give him a sticker on the forehead during oral
his little mechanical eye like gleams at you as he SMIRKS
he’s like 'hmm what's this?"
He takes one off the sheet and does his little smirk and the star just GLOWS
he sticks it on you down there
because he LOVES TO EAT
gives a little predatory grin as he crawls over you to move to the next thing
Tamlin:
Gets distracted by you placing the sticker on his shoulder
Pauses mid thrust
“No no dont stop”
“What… what is that?”
“It’s a sticker. You’re doing a good job. Keep going”
“... what?”
He’s so confused
He doesn’t keep moving
You take the sticker back - “You stopped moving. You stop. You lose the sticker.”
He does NOT like the stickers
“Please put them away.”
He’s very butthurt over losing his only sticker
Immediately flaccid
Rhys:
Isn’t a part of the competition
That male is interested in Feyre and Feyre ONLY
Hears about the competition from Azriel
Immediately goes to Feyre
“We need to buy gold star stickers.”
“Why?”
“Trust me, Darling. Gold. Stickers.”
Your next visit to the river house becomes an adventure of finding all the places where the two of them left stickers while Rhys grins and Feyre rolls her eyes with a laugh
Your favorite find is under the tablecloth, where it’s next to a golden paint smear
“We recreated our mating night for the anniversary,” Rhys whispers to Cassian conspiratorially
He’s intentionally loud enough for all of you to hear
He doesn’t really understand the rules
He just likes the idea of putting the stickers everywhere him and Feyre fucked so he can show off.

wings a court of thorns and roses
rhysand x reader reader is mesmerized by rhysand's wings and he makes a tempting suggestion.
tw: slightly nsfw
playlist here!
Tumblr media
I was sitting in my room when I heard the front door slam. I could feel his anger, a whole level above him, through closed doors. I put the sketchbook I was holding on my desk as I got up to see what all the commotion was about. As I made my way down the spiraling stairs, I saw Rhys storm into his room, shadows trailing behind him. I glanced at Cassian and Mor, raising my eyebrows in question. They simply shook their heads, don’t push him.
I felt another pulse of anger through the bond, he must’ve been infuriated if he let these surges of emotion pass through the bond. I looked at his door, contemplating whether he’d kill me if I tried to talk to him. I had to try, at the very least.
As I walked across the hall, Mor grabbed my arm. “Hybern used faebane. He’s angry, give him some space to cool down.”
I shook my head, “he could be injured, let me just check up on him.”
She let go of my arm but I could sense her and Cassian say a silent prayer for me to walk out of that room alive. I rolled my eyes at them, mustering up all the courage I had before walking towards his door.
I took a deep breath and cracked the door open to peer inside, hoping he couldn’t sense me behind the door.
“Come in if you dare. I won’t kill you but I make no promise to spare those morons in the hall.”
Humor. That’s unexpected. This shouldn’t be that hard, seeing how he was cheery enough to mock Cassian and Mor still.
I walked in, my feet shuffling against the obsidian floor. He was standing before the window, gazing at the starless night sky, as if the stars too, could feel his anger and decided against shining tonight in solidarity for their High Lord. His wings were out. Wings. This was the first time I’d seen them. They were identical to Cassian and Azriel’s wings and dark, so dark that it seemed to eat up any light that dared to shine around them. What would it be like, to use those onyx wings as a backdrop for a starry night sky?
“Are you hurt?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
He removed his attention from the window to answer my question. “Not badly. I’ll heal.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
Silence. His attention turned back to the mountains in the distance. “He baited me. I should have been more careful. Should’ve known about the faebane.”
I paused, unsure of how to respond.
“You can’t know everything. It was a slip up, now you know how to handle confronting him next time.”
“Next time I see him, it won't be to confront him.” He grumbled. A simple threat, frightening nonetheless.
Again, my eyes wandered to his wings. Imagining the things I could paint. The moon illuminating snow capped mountains, stars glittering like diamonds against the black of his wings.
If you’d like to paint my wings, darling, all you have to do is ask.
I was mid gasp when I coughed instead, earning a chuckle from Rhys. I had forgotten about my shields all night since I’d been painting in my room, no use for mental barriers when there was no one around.
He turned, facing me expectantly.
“You’re not serious.” I said.
He merely raised his eyebrows.
“You’re injured.” Excuses. I knew that was just an excuse. To paint him, I’d have to get too close to him. I wasn’t ready for that.
No need to be afraid, I won’t bite.
I cursed him, “pig.”
A breathy laugh.
“Cassian and Mor were terrified of you just then. I’m pretty sure they prayed I’d come back in one piece.” I said.
He shifted, his eyes dropping to the floor. “They know better than to cross me while I’m angry.”
“You don’t seem very angry, quite the opposite actually.”
He hesitated for a second. “You’re a soothing presence.”
I looked away, cheeks heating up.
“Paint my wings.” He said, breaking the silence.
I opened my mouth in protest but hesitated when our eyes met. His violet eyes were full of hope and anticipation.
“Fine.” I huffed, a sly smile creeped onto his lips. Night Triumphant indeed.
I made my way to the door to gather my paints but before I could even walk a step, Rhys waved his hand and my paints along with brushes appeared on his bed.
I shot him a playful look which he returned.
“Alright, lay on your stomach then. If you get hurt any further, it’s your fault.”
“I’d gladly let you hurt me darling.” He retorted.
I bit back a laugh, “who knew the High Lord of the Night was a masochist. I’d pegged you to be the sadist type.”
A devilish grin and equally vicious eyes narrowed at me. “I’m whatever you want me to be, angel.”
I fought the butterflies in my stomach, urged them to go away.
He sprawled out on the silk sheets, his wings laid out before me. I readied my paints and leaned over him, standing on the edge of the bed to start the base layer. It wasn’t the most comfortable position but it would have to do. Though it seemed like Rhys had other plans.
“It’d be much easier if you took a seat, darling.” Despite not being able to see his face, I could hear the smirk in his voice.
“I’m not sitting on you Rhys.” I said.
“You wouldn’t want the throne to go cold would you darling?”
I rolled my eyes, “I’m not gonna make this comfortable for you Rhys.”
His response was that breathy laugh, the one that made my skin burn and my stomach flutter. I made sure my shields were up before climbing onto his hips, my thighs on either side of him.
“This seems pretty comfortable to me, what happened to the promise of pain?” He taunted.
I smacked the back of his head, “let me paint in peace.”
“You make me suffer, angel.”
“Good.” I replied.
For the next hour, I lost myself in painting his magnificent wings. Time slipped away as I focused on getting every star, every cloud, every snowy mountain right. Rhys seemed to enjoy the quiet as well, his head resting on his arms as he watched me in the mirror. I tried not to shy away from his gaze.
“I think I’m done.”
“Finally, my back is aching.”
I winced, I completely forgot he was hurt. I scrambled to get off him but before I could, he turned onto his back, positioning his hands on my waist, keeping me straddled on his hips.
“Rhys! The painting!” My eyes widened, the paint was going to smudge. He was laying on his back now, watching me panic before saying, “Don’t worry, it’s dried. I made sure of it.”
A sigh of relief left my lips.
“Then let me off.”
“I don’t think I will.”
I stilled.
He was gazing over my face, taking in what was before him. A hand came up to wipe away a smudge of white paint on my collarbone. I shivered when his cold hand touched my warm skin. He lifted himself up with ease, his face inches away from mine. My cheeks were bright red, my eyes dropping to his chest and my hands fiddling with the threads of my sweater. His featherlight touch traveled from my collarbone, up to my neck and stopped at my chin, gently lifting my face to meet his. I looked up at him through my eyelashes, eyes narrowed. His lips were no longer twisted in that arrogant smirk, eyes no longer held that devilish gaze. His lips were parted in anticipation, violet eyes pining with desire.
“Are you gonna do something or just stare.” Barely a whisper.
Within seconds his hands were gripping the back of my neck, bringing my lips to his in a hungry, desperate, burning kiss. We were wind and water, violent waves crashing against jagged rock. His hands roamed under my sweater, drinking every curve, every edge. My hands mirrored his, wrapping around his broad shoulders and then traveling down his solid chest. I couldn’t get enough of him, couldn’t get close enough despite being flush against him. He withdrew from the kiss, taking a breath, looking into my eyes, searching for hesitation. I smiled at him, don’t stop. The devilish smirk was back. His lips trailed down my jaw, my neck, my collarbone, there wasn’t an inch of me he didn’t claim. His hands held my waist so hard I knew they’d be bruised in the morning. I didn’t care, I wanted every bruise, every mark he gave me.
What shall I be for you tonight, angel? Sadist?
He brought his hand to the back of my head, gripping a fistful of hair and pulling back. I whimpered as he used the opportunity to leave bite marks all over my exposed neck.
His grip softened, his lips now trailed further down and lightly kissed the hollow of my neck.
Or shall I worship your body?
He flipped us over, pinning my hands on either side of head. I was trapped between his strong, tattooed arms.
I don’t care what you do to me, just never stop touching me.
He smiled brighter than the north star. His lips brushed over my ear, “your wish is my command,” he breathed.

Batboys x reader headcanons/thoughts: having a nightmare
Warnings: none, except nightmares, just fluff and cute Illyrians :)
Rhys
Rhys would softly stroke your hair, trying to wake you up. “Hey baby, wake up, it’s me... you’re okay.” You startle awake, immediately going in a sitting position with tears in your eyes. He strokes your back gently, tracing little patterns on your skin while sitting up next to you
He always helps you by taking calming breaths together. He would grab your hands and count with you, “one more deep breath, good girl.” That man praises you SO MUCH!!
And when you calm down, Rhys would be the kind of person to not let you sleep immediately, he would talk to you and ask about the dream. After a while you both start to talk about other things, a soft conversation in the comfort of his arms. Eventually you fall asleep mid conversation.
I know for sure he would watch your peaceful face for a while when you sleep, slowly drifting off too.
I also think Rhys would feel guilty about the fact you get nightmares so frequently, so that's why he fights to stay awake, to be sure you are comfortable when you fall back asleep.
Cassian
This man always sleeps so deep, but when he feels your foreign shifting in the tight grip of his arms, he awakes eventually.
Cassian would sooth you by kissing you all over your face. Soft kisses starting on your cheek, than your nose and other cheek. “Don’t worry baby, I’m here, everything’s okay”. He literally can’t stop pampering you with kisses.
When you realize it was all just a nightmare, silent tears of relieve fall into your cheeks. “Cassie, ‘m sorry for waking you up again”
“No no, never apologize for that baby, come here” he quickly says. He would not let you feel guilty about this kind of things. He grips the back of your head and pulls you into his chest. You snuggle into his warmth. He smells like a warm day and something sweet, like caramel.
“I love you sunshine” he whispers into your hair
“I love you too, my sweet Illyrian warrior” you answer and he can only chuckle in response because of the nickname.
Azriel
When you’re like best friends but so in love and he is working late on something, he hears you screaming. He rushes into your room, worried something happened. When he sees you asleep, he whispers your name softly. You wake up. “Are you okay?” he asks.
He is so worried but wants to give you space too. You on the other hand, want him to stay. “Please, Az, can you stay?"
“Are you sure that’s a good idea, love?” he says hesitant. “I could make you some tea?”
“Please, just for a moment, come lie with me” you plead. I feel like it wouldn’t be the first time Az sleeps next to you for comfort. Sometimes it’s the other way around and you sneak into his bed, always toying with the loose curls of his dark hair. “Okay sweetie, only for a moment then” he complies. He lays in bed beside you, his warmth so welcoming and comforting. You lay your head on his warm chest and he kisses your hair.
Sleep finds you quickly when Az is so close to you. He always wraps is his wings around you and sometimes you feel his thumb, stroking just above your hips. Thanks to your comofting smell and the softness of your skin on his fingers, he falls asleep too
And ofcourse, he eventually stays the whole night
Would you all like it when I include Lucien and Eris too? Lucien is one of my all time favourite characters and there's not enough of him on this app!!! But I’m scared I don’t know enough about Eris? :(

yes or no
Rhyzriel x Reader
Summary: Azriel walks in to give Rhys a report.
Warnings: this is actually PURE smut, soft!dom Rhys, kind of switch az, d/s dynamics, voyeurism, wingplay, minors dni!
A/N: apparently I was in a mood today, here’s some absolute (soft?) filth
Rhys wrapped his arms around your waist, tugging you back to rest against his chest. At first, it began sweet - gentle even. You relaxed back into his chest, closing your eyes and sighing. Strong legs caging you in, pinning you in place. His hand slipped under your top, thumb running back and forth over the soft skin of your stomach, idle and lazy strokes.
“Have I told you how beautiful you are today?”
You huffed a small laugh, “yes, you have.”
His knees slipped under your legs, casually hooking yours - spreading you open for him.
“Rhys,” you murmured.
He curved to place a kiss on your neck. “Yes?” The smooth voice echoed in your mind.
“What are you doing?” You replied aloud.
“Enjoying time with my mate, of course.” More like playing with you. His favorite pastime.
“It is.”
One arm tightened around your stomach, holding you closer. His hand trailed lower, fingering the band of your pants, popping one button open.
“Rhys,” you sighed, even as your body began to relax in him, eager to feel his touch.
“Something wrong?” He sounded amused.
“No.”
“Then be quiet.”
Your mouth slammed shut at the order, at the underlying hint of dominance in it, especially as made his way further, back and forth strokes, slowly making his way down to where you wanted him. An involuntary moan left your lips as his fingers finally grazed your clit, hips jolting into his hand.
“Do I need to gag you?” A rapid shake of your head, but really … you wouldn’t quite mind it.
As always, keeping your mental walls lowered for him, he heard that particular thought and his hand withdrew. From the corner of your eyes, a small piece of cloth, black and smooth, appeared in his hand. Other hand withdrawing, he hooked a thumb between your lips, gently opening your jaw.
The cloth doubled over, before slipping between your teeth, tied snugly behind your head. Immediately, your mouth began to water and you ran your tongue over the foreign material. Smooth against your tongue, thick enough for your teeth to bite into.
Another thought from him, and your clothes disappeared. You had been wondering how long that would take. Dragging his nails up the inside of your thighs, your breath caught as you watched him get closer and closer, before pushing your legs further apart. Two fingers gathered your arousal, nearly dripping down your thighs now.
“All this for me?” Another nod, mumbling something incoherent. “It better be,” he breathed.
Hips rolling back, he hardened beneath you, a groan leaving his throat. Gentle but firm lips pressed kisses against your neck, sucking just enough to leave a faint bruise. You tilted your head, opening for him. Surrendering to him. His hands slid up, cupping your breasts, thumbs brushing over your nipples.
You arched into him, embracing his touch, reaching your arm back to touch him - it froze mid air, a midnight swirl of magic catching it before lowering it down to your thigh. You whined in disappointment. It was only him who could get you into this state - the state where you’d whine for anything. Rhys loved this game, the control he had over you and your body. At least in this bedroom.
“I do love it.” You rolled your eyes, a slap to your core cut that off. “We have a guest,” he warned and your breath caught. Hands tried to cover you, but he pried them back down with his own. A shadow creeping under the door was your warning, and it swung open without hesitation.
Your body flushed, embarrassment at being caught in this situation. You were tempted to slide those mental shields back up, so he couldn’t hear your - “Don’t you dare.”
You fought the urge to roll your eyes.
A half smirk came over the shadowsinger’s face as he saw you, the position you’d been caught in.
“A bit caught up?” His smooth and cool voice seemed to echo through the room.
“No,” Rhys answered. You couldn’t answer.
Before you could frown, his hand swept back down, the other wrapping around your stomach and pinning your arms in place. Head falling back against his shoulder, your eyes rolled back, grinding your hips into him, a small snarl and nip against your neck stopped that. You didn’t care about the audience anymore, it felt like every part of you narrowed down to him, to the feeling of his fingers on you, the hard planes of his body behind you, legs spreading you wide. Teeth nipped at your neck, and the moan you let out wasn’t stifled by the gag.
Rhys stilled, and you blinked your heavy eyes open. Azriel was still speaking, giving a report about something, but his eyes were on you. On where Rhys’s hand connected to your body, on the swell of your breasts. Slowly, you raised one hand up your body. Rhys let out an amused chuckle, and allowed it.
Keeping your eyes on Azriel, you trailed your fingers up, running a knuckle along the curve of your breasts, pinching your nipple between your thumb and forefinger.
“Do you want him to come over here, darling?” Hesitation. You didn’t want anything that would make Rhys uncomfortable. “It wouldn’t. I’ve had a long time to think about this.”
Fuck.
“You have a dirty mouth.”
“I didn’t say anything. I can’t say anything”
“A dirty mind,” he corrected. “Yes or no?”
“If you want to, if he wants to”
“That’s not what I asked,” his tone changed, firmer - demanding an answer.
“Yes,” even in your mind, you thought your voice sounded breathy. You turned your head to watch Rhys, his eyes glazed over, telling something to Azriel. You heard Azriel moving, and you tried to turn, but Rhys gripped the back of your head and held you in place. You were keenly aware your body was still exposed.
“What’s your safeword?”
You swallowed, “Spring.”
Seconds later, your vision was obscured, another fabric tying tightly over your eyes. You couldn’t see anything, complete darkness. The rest of your senses heightened. The bed shifted, someone was moving - you were moving, kneeling, knees pressing into the soft sheets, hands rested on your thighs.
“Are you ready?” Rhys wasn’t asking you.
“Yes,” Azriel’s strained voice came.
Then, hands were lifting you. Rhys gripped your hips - his hands were familiar, pushing you forwards, but Azriel’s hands, rougher, gripped each of your thighs, spreading your legs out. They worked your body easily, the two of them seeming to know exactly what to do.
“Breathe,” was Rhys’s only warning, as Azriel - it had to be him, pressed against your entrance. Hands slammed you down, and you yelped - muffled by the gag, a painful stretch as you were fully seated.
Too much. It was too much, you were too full.
“You can take it,” Rhys encouraged - this time speaking out loud, he pressed against your upper back, and your hands naturally found their way to his shoulders. You’d never … never been on top of Rhys, at least. Well, not in a while. Rough hands found your hips, encouraging you to move.
It took you a minute to get your balance, to find a rhythm, but the gentle rocking of your hips, the slight movements, made his heart rate increase, his breaths quickened. Soft, but effective apparently. Gently, his hands ran up and down your sides, brushing over each of your curves, stopping to sweep underneath your breasts.
Rhys was still behind you, “that’s it,” he murmured into your ear, you’re doing so well.”
The little bit of encouragement was what you needed, what you needed to grow bolder. As you did, you were rewarded, and both the gag and blindfold disappeared.
“Az wants to hear you,” Rhys said with a hint of amusement.
Az, currently beneath you, watching you with glazed eyes. Faster, you moved faster, starting to push your hips up and down. He groaned as your nails dug into your shoulder, and you had an idea. Not something you could do without permission or asking, that was likely to get you killed at worst, maimed at best. Instead, you eyed the curve of his wing, knowing his shadows would track. You wanted him to invite you, for him to make that choice.
“You can touch them,” he seemed shy - maybe even hesitant. You could feel Rhys’s surprise behind you. “Just don’t stop moving,” he groaned.
“Be gentle, love,” Rhys spoke to your mind this time.
Carefully, avoiding any of your nails, you ran a finger over the curve of his left wing, gauging his reaction. He stiffened, eyes closing. Good. Repeating the motions, Rhys grabbed your hips, helping you keep a steady rhythm as Azriel’s eyes stayed closed.
You liked this, liked that you were both working to bring him here, to give him this kind of pleasure.
It didn’t take long before Azriel’s fingers were digging into your thighs, stopping you. Sensing it, Rhys pulled you off, just in time for Azriel to finish - all over your stomach.
Rhys disappeared, probably to grab a washcloth, and you moved, trying to give him some kind of space. It wasn’t hard to pick up that was his first time having someone touch his wings - in that way, and you realized the vulnerability in it. Instead, his arm darted out, wrapping around your waist to tug you closer. You let your head rest on his chest, running your hand up and down his arm, listening as his heart settled back to normal.
This, you wanted to do again.
“We will.”

All in my Head🖤
Summary: You’ve been head over heels for Azriel since you were kids but never said anything, but when Elain enters our lives you spiral and everyone can see how much you’re breaking what will happen when Az finally notices
Pairing: Azriel x f!reader
Warnings: depression, lack of eating
•Masterlist•
Tumblr media
Flashback
“Come on Az I just wanna play!” I squealed excited that Rhys finally let me play with his friends
“I don’t know, why would you wanna play with me” he said glum as ever
“Because I like you now come on cas and whys are waiting for us!” I said taking his hand and running towards the others and that’s how our little group formed
Present
Ever since I met Azriel I knew I loved him he was so kind and amazing even if he didn’t show that side to others I knew him deep down but how do I tell him he’s my mate? It’ll ruin everything
“Hey sis what’s running around that head of yours now?” Rhysand asked as he sat on the couch next to me
“The usual” I sighed putting my book aside, Rhys always knew how to read my feelings, sometimes it was a curse but he was always there for me
“Just tell him you never know what’ll happen”
“I don’t know I’ll…..I’ll think about it okay”
“Okay as long as you consider it” he smiles
Tumblr media
But then everything got in the way, Feyre entered our lives and I was so happy my brother found someone to love him the way he deserves but then her two sisters came soon after and what happened just ruined me
Azriel couldn’t take his eyes off of Elain, he spent all his time with her everything was about her and he started to pull away from me
I started spending more time with Mor and Cas they always cheered me up sometimes even the presence of amren was better than sitting with my thoughts alone
“Honey I think you need a girls day out, come on we will go shopping and make Cassian carry everything” she said making me laugh which felt strange these days
“Okay!” With that me Mor and Cassian walked the streets of velaris having a great day for once
“Oh Cassian this would look amazing on you!” I said holding up a red wine colored silk button up shirt
“You think?”
“Of course I’m getting it for you! You’ll look amazing”
“You don’t have to I can get it” he said fumbling for his money
“No you’re my best friend it’s just a little treat from me okay?”
“God you’re amazing” he smiled
“Hey y/n what do you think of this dress?” Mor asked behind us holding up a simple sapphire dress that flared at the waist and came to mid thigh
“It’s cute!”
“I think you should get it, maybe it’ll catch the eye of a certain someone!” She said winking making my face heat up
“Oh I don’t know Mor”
“Come on you have to try”
“Ugh fine but only because I know you won’t quit”
I paid for everything and we made our way back to the House of Wind hanging out in my room, Cas tried on his shirt and like I thought he looked amazing and they convinced me to try on the dress
“Well what do you think?” I asked nervously fiddling with the hem
“Angel you look stunning” cas said mouth open in awe
“Really?”
“Oh girl if only you were mine” Mor laughed as she made you twirl
“Stop you’re embarrasing me”
“You know I think this is the perfect moment for you to go tell him” with all the compliments it boosted my courage and I agreed
“I’m gonna do it!”
“Go get him girl” Mor said excited as they waited in my room, I ventured down the hall to Azriels room where he spent most of his time, but when I turned the corner what I saw felt like an arrow through my heart
“I love you Elain” he said as she pulled him into a passionate kiss
I turned quickly not wanting to hear or see anything else, I ran back to my room in tears, cas and Mor quick to question
“Hey said he loves her, they kissed”
“Oh Angel I’m so sorry” Cassian said holding me in his arms, after hours of crying I settled down and just wanted to be alone now
“Let us know if you need anything” Mor stated before they left leaving me in the darkness that was my heart
Tumblr media
They days went by and I never left my room for anything, they’d bring me food but I never bothered knowing I couldn’t stomach it
Hearing a knock on my door before it opened Rhys quickly sitting by me on the bed
“Oh my little star, it kills me to see you like this” he said pulling me into his chest
“It hurts Rhys” I said clutching my chest
“I know sis I know”
“It feels like I’m dying, maybe I’ll be happy then”
“Hey don’t say that, you never say that”
“Maybe it’s for the better” I said pulling away and laying in bed
“What can i do” he asked rubbing my back
“Nothing can help me now Rhys just….just go be with Feyre”
“You know I love you”
“I know” he placed a kiss to the top of my head before leaving
The cycle continued until one night I had enough, I packed a small bag and left in the middle of the night, it was hard with how frail I’ve become and how numb I feel, but I walked along velaris to the mountains till all that was left of velaris was a distant light, I came to a cliff out looking the ocean, I first came here with Azriel when he needed to get away for a bit where I realized he was my mate
Seeing the sun rise I pulled out all the little gifts my family had given my that I held dear to my heart, a little star figurine from Rhys, a necklace from Cassian and a antique ring from Mor, then a diary that Azriel handmade for me I laid them all out before me missing what I use to have, remembering how things use to be
“I love you all” I stood up teetering on the edge of the cliff, about to take my last breath feeling the wind blow across my face I fell forward when I hear Rhys scream in my head
“Y/N NO” his scream making me flinch but it was too late as the ocean surface neared, I sighed in relief before arms circled around me and suddenly I was on the cliffs surface again
“Rhys no why’d you stop me, I was gonna be free” I scream turning to see it was Azriel not Rhysand
“What the hell were you thinking?” He said anger laced in his voice
“Just let me go”
“No we’re going home” he sighed packing my little bag up and winnowing us back to the house of wind, everyone was sat around anxiously, but when they saw me Rhys ran to me holding me close but I couldn’t shed anymore tears there was no more left, I’ve become a shell
“Oh my little star”
“I’m tired Rhys, I’m so tired”
“Why didn’t we just let her do it she’s so obviously done” Elain stated making the others gasp
“Get out” Azriel growled shocking everyone even myself
“But baby…”
“No you get out of this house, you never speak to my family like that, especially not her” with that elain stomped out having a long walk ahead of her
“Come on let’s get you to bed Angel” Cas said as he picked up my frail and exhausted body
“I can take her” Az said making my heart skip a beat from its frozen state
“Is that okay Angel?” I looked up at cas and nodded
Soon being in Azriels arms it just felt right he was so warm
Azriel placed me down on the bed covering me tight, pushing away stray hairs
“How did this happen, I haven’t even noticed anything” he sighed a defeated look on his face
“How could you, you haven’t talked to me in months Az” I whispered out
“I’m so sorry, I never meant to hurt you, I was so confused and the whole time you’ve been in front of me”
“What do you mean”
“When Rhys called for me to save you, I felt it in my chest the fear of losing you, of never being able to show you how much you mean to me, it snapped, you’re my mate”
“I know” his eyes widened littered with sadness
“What when? Why didn’t you tell me”
“I’ve known for centuries, that day we shared on the cliff, but I think I’ve always known, I wanted you to love me for me, not the bond”
“Mother above I’m so sorry, but I swear I’ll spend the rest of my life showing you how much I love you, how your eyes sparkle when you’re talking about something you love, or how you always smell like vanilla and it makes my heart beat against my chest when you walk by, I love everything about you, just please give me a chance” he was now crying which I barely ever saw
“I’ll give you a chance as but…..but I need time”
“I understand just let me help you my love” I nodded feeling my heart start to thaw for the first time in months

Hii! If it’s okay, could I please request some hcs of Leif from MID with a motherly s/o?
The reader doesn’t have to be female, I just think that he deserves a nurturing partner after all that childhood trauma
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lief X Motherly! Reader
Pairings: Leif X Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Some angsty shit, mentions of Murder, Cursing A/N: Dude I can't agree more that Lief deserves someone to nurture him LIKE OMLLLLLLLLL! this man when Rhys and him had the argument and leif said "your not the only one who tells me that" I was so shocked - Leif had like a really SHITTY PAST DUDE - You were Ava's neighbor so you wanted to greet her the day after her interview - So having you be there makes him so confused how could you handle him? how could you handle his personality - Leif is a bit feisty but also very bold when it comes to things and leif can be shown to be slightly challenging and quick to assume things such as him instantly assuming Ava your BFF was dead when she was found to be unconscious. - Leif was shown to be dangerous as shown by the many threats towards Ava's life... yet you showed cared for him? you wrapped up him whenever he got hurt and would scold him - He first got pissed at you and thought you were challenging him on his healing abilities - but you were showing him kindness which most daemos find weak - You took care of Ava properly and made sure she was fine and all the daemos men called you Ava's head Lady in Waiting  - You were there in the morning helped and fixed her place as you took care of her. Ava saw you as a mother figure yes she has her own parents but having you was nice - You cared for her and showed her motherly attention and when you tried to show the other daemos that care - Violent tendencies come to him so he pulls out his sickles and would try to charge at someone so you have to restrain him the most and he gets pissy
- When Leif came across you he was immediately struck by your warm and comforting presence. - When someone gets your attention he gets defensive and would try get your attention back onto him - he has abandonment issues so he likes to be by your side but he doesn't speak up about it at all for example Ava was explaining how to put on the clothes for the others - You know how he likes poking ava with you its even worse he pokes but sometimes likes to touch diffrent parts of your bodies randomly. You could be washing dishes and he would pop up behind you touching your waist an then try to scold him but he's always far away - Even as a healer he finds it annoying how you try to patch him up - He likes to sharpen his sickles and shows it off to you as you just make sure he is alright - He likes to talk about him being a ex-assassin and flezes it as you tell him how cruel it was as he just stares at you - Believe it or not Leif respects you more than anyone in this world aka earth I mean- have you seen yourself? but he says he doesn't respect anyone - The group saw you punch a guy who tried to touch you and ava inappropriately due to being drunk the guy passed out with a singular punch - You gained their respect but when leif tried to join in on punching the male you dragged his ass away - he started to like you after awhile and would flirtatiously threaten you as you scold him like always which he enjoys - He smirks alot and I mean alot but he enjoys staring at you when you do things - You asked him about his past and he was hesitant and you apologized and told him when he was ready he told you anyway as you frowned telling him that he didn't deserve that -  you soon pointed out to him that distracting himself from his trauma by focusing all of his energy into his work killing started to become recreational for him as it was the only mechanism that could relieve emotional pain. - he became so dependent on bloodshed to keep him mentally stable almost as if it were an addiction - Leif would look away and scoff and tries to tell you off as you deadpan at him with an look 'Bro I know' - You give him ideas on how to relax himself as you give him plants for him to take care of due to noticing when you brought a plant to give to Ava he wouldn't stop staring at it - So you give him these plants to look after and explain they need light and water - He flexes it and says it was 'special' cause he tried to repeat all the facts you say about them so he seems smart - so when he watched one die after a couple of days he freaks out and rushes to ava demanding her to summon you cause you weren't there due to you being at work - You got off work and explained to Leif that it died due to not being taken care of so he makes sure to ask if he's doing stuff correctly which makes you confused how he is so calm - He has a short patience and would go off at a moment not like Asch but still has a short temper - threatens Ava for him to hangout at your apartment whenever you try to leave as Ava panics as you tell Leif to stop - You tell him that your just next door and come by whenever and he starts becoming an annoying pest - Ava would drag Leif to your place as others complain as Ava tells them to shut up as Ava knocks on your door as you open the door with a tired look wearing a face mask and your Pajamas wearing duck slippers and baggy sweatpants and a white shirt with a goose holding a knife in its mouth with bubbly words 'Peace was never the option' above it as Leif smirked at you.
- A sigh past your lips as Ava left to go to bed and leif entereed your apartment as you motioned for him to sleep on your bed as you were heading to the couch - This mother fucker decided to pull you into the bed and tell you to just sleep here as you warn him if he breaks anything your gonna tell ava - You fell asleep drooling onto bed unaware the leif clinged onto you enjoying the warmth you shared - it was weird how someone as caring and nurturing as you were caring for a blood thirsty ex-assassin - In the moments that you both have interacted with each other Leif felt something that he hadn't in a long time... Comfort

One Summer — Part Six
Tumblr media
Pairing: Reader x Azriel
Summary: One beach house. One festival. One summer to fall in love.
Warnings: drug usage/mentions as usual, alcohol, mor/feyre/reader being fashion icons, reader & az being 'just friends', drunk girl bonding, reader being a sentimentalist and loving her friends
Word Count: 5.4k
Previous Part | Series Masterlist | Next Part
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
There was a cramp in your stomach from laughing so hard— a pain made worse by the fact that Mor’s roughly concocted mimosas fueled the hilarity of every comment. She and Feyre were in stitches beside you, their snickers echoing off the walls as you all made your way down the stairs. It had taken a while, but you were finally ready to head out for the last day of Summit. The boys had been waiting with increasing impatience.
As you rounded the corner into the kitchen, Cassian looked up with a start, his hand paused mid-air, spoon halfway to his mouth. He choked as he took in the sight before him, his eyes widening in disbelief.
“What the hell do those say?” Cassian coughed, pressing his hand over his mouth as he swallowed hard. He stood up from his seat, and you bit back a laugh.
You three had been adamant about making your last day truly memorable. Somehow that had turned into throwing out any pretenses of looking cute or trendy. Instead, you three wanted something more sophisticated, outfits that showed your maturity. You’d each chosen special shirts for one another.
Yours was a white tee with bold, unapologetic text: “I made your dad a bottom.” Mor’s shirt was a masterpiece of absurdity. She’d cut it into a sleeveless, oversized fit that hung off her frame with casual abandon. The front featured a stock photo of a muscular, awkwardly posed werewolf figure with the caption “Human by chance, alpha by choice” scrawled underneath in an ill-advised font. Feyre’s was also a true work of art. She'd played pretend offend for all of three seconds when she'd first seen it, giggling about how true it was. Her shirt boasted a crudely drawn frog holding a paintbrush, paired with the words “Dyslexic with tig bits.”
You exchanged grins with your best friends.
"Aren't you gonna tell us how good we look?" Mor asked, placing a hand on her hip. She gave him a look of impatience, as if the time running by without her compliment was getting on her nerves.
"I-" Cassian ran a hand across his mouth, tracing his mustache with extra care once he noticed her budding scowl. "Rhys! Az!"
The two boys emerged almost instantly, their mouths falling open in amusement as their eyes scanned the shirts. Rhys was the first to react, his face lighting up with a wide grin as he let out a low whistle.
“Pretty privilege lets you guys get away with way too many things,” he mused, his attention fixed entirely on Feyre as he approached her. He gently took her hand, guiding her into a dainty twirl to showcase her outfit.
Your gaze shifted to Az, who leaned casually against the wall, amusement dancing in his eyes as he crossed his arms over his chest. Mimicking his pose, you crossed your arms defensively. He shook his head, pushing off the wall and strolling towards you.
“Well, don’t cover up the art like that,” he said, glancing at your crossed arms. “I was enjoying it.”
You blushed, letting out a snort as you dropped your arms, gesturing dramatically to the shirt. Az’s eyes glimmered as he reached forward, his fingers lightly brushing the edges of the fabric. “Why this one?”
“Mor chose it for me,” you replied, your breath catching slightly. Azriel nodded in approval.
“Fitting.”
Cassian, now fully recovered, let out a hearty laugh. “Well, I’m feeling left out. You all look—” he paused for dramatic effect, “—exceptionally unique.”
“Good answer,” Mor said with a satisfied nod. She wrapped an arm around you, pulling you along with her as she walked towards the kitchen. “And isn’t the idea of dommy Y/N so hot?”
You groaned, your face flushing red as she giggled beside you. For the tenth time that morning, you begged her to stop using such a strange title. Her laughter only grew louder.
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
The merch line was long, but you didn’t mind waiting; the day was cooler, the sun less blistering than it had been, and the thought of having a physical memento from the weekend was comforting. Az had volunteered to keep you company while the others leisurely watched a smaller set on the schedule. There was an ease to this moment, the kind that settled in when time stretched out.
Azriel turned his head to look at you. His eyes scanned your figure and a second later he was shaking his head, looking away as a laugh left his lips. Your heart skipped a beat. Az’s laugh was something you coveted, a sound you’d become addicted to over time.
You waited until his eyes reached yours again to raise your eyebrow. "What?"
"That fuckin' shirt," Az replied. "I just can't get over it."
You grinned, nudging him with your shoulder as the line moved forward. "Don't judge. It's been a chick and dick magnet."
It was true. You'd gotten more compliments on your shirt than you'd ever received in your entire life— at least, drunk you seemed to think so. God, you needed to wear this outfit more often.
Azriel shook his head again, offering up his hands in surrender. "No judgment here," he said. He scanned you again, eyes glowing with a sense of contemplation. He pulled his cap off his head and placed it on yours. You tracked his movements with your eyes, watching as he took a step backwards and admired you as if he'd just created a masterpiece.
"Perfect."
It was an effort not to beam at the word alone, at how it seemed to anchor itself in your chest, resonating with a deeper meaning you were too embarrassed to fully acknowledge. You cleared your throat, ignoring the warmth that rolled through your body, surely collecting on your reddening cheeks. You placed your hands on your hips.
"I look good?"
Azriel let out a small hiccup, a smile spreading across his face. "Oh yeah," he said, reclaiming his spot next to you in a few, easy strides. "You look like every dude in Rhys's frat."
Your smile fell. You attempted to give him a glare, to scowl, but Azriel's proud grin pulled a laugh from deep in your chest. "You said it looked good."
Az's smile curved, deepening into the crevasses of his cheeks. "And I meant it, you look great. Stunning."
There it was, that feeling again— that giddiness that left you fumbling for words. Something warm and silly spread throughout your chest. For a moment, you struggled to respond, fumbling through your mind to put together a coherent sentence. It was proving hard, so incredibly hard, when Az was looking at you the way he was.
"I didn't know frat boys were your type."
Azriel shrugged. "I didn't either. Guess we're both learning new things."
You playfully smacked him with your hand and reached up to remove his cap from your head. He shook his head, taking it back to adjust the band with nimble fingers. You watched him, noting the slight tremble as he refitted it to your head.
“You keep this,” Azriel said, securing it on you again. “It looks better on you anyway.”
You swallowed, fingertips brushing the brim. “Careful, Az. It might sound like you’re flirting with me or something.”
Azriel stared at you for a moment. His gaze was steady, searching. Do friends look at friends this way? Was it wrong to crave his gaze so deeply?
"What can I say," Az finally replied. The line moved forward. "I guess I just can't resist the pull of a frat guy."
Azriel brushed his palmalong the small of your back to guide you forward. The warmth of his touch lingered long after he removed his hand.
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
You weren't sure how much time had passed since Az left to go put all of the merch in the car. His instructions to you had been clear: stay in the same area so he could find you when he came back in. When he'd left, there was still around an hour until you'd meet back up with Mor, Feyre, Cass and Rhys.
But Azriel's instructions left your mind the minute he was out of view. You'd reached that perfect point of being slightly crossed—mostly drunk, but not dangerously so— and everything felt vibrant. Alive. It made no sense to stand still or sit in a patch of grass and wait for Az to return like a sad codependent dog and its owner. No, that wouldn't do.
So you wandered, finding yourself by the food trucks, a new fruity drink in your hand. Non-alcoholic and entirely too expensive for its small size, but money didn't seem real to you. There was a large smile on your face as you weaved through the small crowds. You'd made around six new friends, random people you began talking to in line, those equally as drunk who voiced their love for your outfit.
You barely registered when you bumped into a girl, the drink in your hand sloshing a bit.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” A soft voice exclaimed. You brought your attention to her face, taking in her long brown hair as she wiped a drop from her shirt. You were about to apologize then too, but then her eyes met yours. Something sparked in them. They widened, the brown glowing almost, and she beamed.
“I know you!”
You stilled. “You do?” There was something familiar about her but you couldn’t quite place it. The smile especially. Something warm and friendly.
“Yes!” she nodded eagerly. She grabbed the arm of a person next to her, pulling them into the conversation. Deep blue eyes and sandy brown hair.
“Babe," the girl said, "This is the girl from yesterday!"
A look of realization formed on her partner's face. She turned to you again. "I was just telling them earlier about you. I took your picture yesterday."
They nodded, a small chuckle leaving their lips as they took a sip of their shared drink. "She was," they said, "The pretty girl with the boyfriend who had a sick wing tattoo.”
You blinked. Maybe you were feeling a bit slow today, a bit lethargic, or maybe you were a bit too gone to carry such a fast conversation. You let their words sink in, allowing your face to blossom into a smile. You recognized her face now, remembering the sweet approach she'd had to you and Az. The picture you now cherished so deeply. Your cheeks warmed.
“Oh, uh. He's not my boyfriend.”
The girl stilled. A sense of surprise flickered across her face. “Really?”
“Yeah,” you laughed lightly, “just friends.”
She exchanged a look with her partner, a silent conversation passing between them, and then turned back to you with an intrigued expression, eyes slightly narrowed, lips still curved at the edges.
"Really?" She repeated, as if her question would pull a different answer, one that may have satisfied her more.
You gave a sheepish smile, shrugging your shoulders. You suddenly felt entirely too vulnerable, embarrassed in a way you hadn't felt since you were a child in kindergarten. She exchanged another look with her partner.
“Does he know that?” They said.
You shifted awkwardly, the heat rising in your cheeks. “Yeah, I mean, it's kinda weird, though. I don't know...” You trailed off, feeling the words slipping away from you. It was hard to articulate when your mind was so pleasantly hazy. You hesitated, then added with a chuckle, “It’s a long story.”
They both nodded. The girl looked at her partner before turning back to you. She grinned and shrugged, her eyes bright with curiosity. “Well, if you have the time, so do we.”
You furrowed your brows. She leaned in closer, like a best friend about to share a secret, and whispered conspiratorially, “I love a good storytime.”
And so, you found yourself sitting on a patch of grass, with Victoria and Jamie, as you learned their names to be, a band playing distantly on the stage nearby. The entire history spilled from your lips like uncontrollable bile, as if you were drafting a biography and starting it from the moment you met Feyre—because that’s when it truly all started. Almost four years ago, you realized.
You talked about freshman year, about your introductory philosophy class, your friendship with Az that blossomed into this deep, heavy crush. You told them about that almost-kiss, the one that lingered in your memory like a bittersweet stain, and even about your relationship with Eris.
Victoria's drink was empty by the time you’d finished and the sun had dipped ever-so-slightly in the sky, now painting the festival in golden hues.
“Wow,” Victoria said, exchanging a meaningful look with Jamie before turning back to you.
You felt a twinge of embarrassment. “I talked too much, didn't I?"
“Not at all! That was incredibly entertaining. Felt like the plot to some kind of romcom,” she said, laughing lightly. Jamie nodded in agreement. You felt heat rush to your cheeks.
“So… what’s holding you back?” Victoria asked, tilting her head slightly as she studied your face. You opened your mouth to respond, but she quickly interjected, “And do not say it’s because you’re not sure he feels the same. You’re wearing his hat.”
You offered a sheepish smile, bringing your fingers up to trace the brim of Azriel’s cap, still securely placed on your head. You’d almost forgotten he’d put it there. It made sense now, why your face didn’t feel as burnt as usual. It also felt silly to admit that it was a worry of yours--- that maybe Az didn't see anything romantic with you the way he once did, that maybe these small moments were doused in a platonic love, like that from Cass and Rhys, and you had deluded yourself into thinking too deeply about them.
You shrugged, a small, helpless gesture. “It’s more complicated than that,” you mumbled, but your words felt hollow even to your own ears.
Jamie leaned forward, their gaze sharp and inquisitive. You resisted the urge to draw back at the eye contact, at how their blue eyes seemed to be reading you. They casted a glance at Victoria.
“Is it because of your ex-boyfriend?"
"What?" You frowned, letting your shoulders sag as the words ran through you. "What do you mean?"
They shrugged, sharing another glance with Victoria.
"You mentioned him a lot. And you said they all had a past. Maybe it’s some kind of guilt?”
Your eyes widened as you considered the possibility, the weight of it settling heavily in your chest. You hadn’t consciously connected the two, the strange anxiety and guilt that had bubbled throughout the week. But now that it had been mentioned, acknowledged by someone other than yourself, the thought lingered, a seed of doubt taking root.
Maybe they were right; maybe you’d been letting guilt hold you back from pursuing what you truly wanted. That extended to things far beyond the way you felt for Az. The truth was, you did feel guilty. You'd lost time with your friends when you and Eris dated. It was part of the reason why you felt even worse for not wanting to move with Mor— because you didn't want to disappoint her another time, to make her feel like you were choosing something else over her.
And there was Azriel. Azriel, Azriel, Azriel. Where was he anyways? You should go find him. Surely it's been too long. Were you spending too much time with him? Should you be at Mor's hip instead?  Your thoughts started swirling faster, more compounded and harder to process.
“I guess I hadn’t really thought about it that way,” you admitted, your voice quiet. "Maybe that's it."
Why was it so easy to be more honest to complete strangers than to yourself? Such a strange thing, you thought, as Victoria watched you carefully. Her eyes softened with understanding. There was a moment of silence before Jamie smiled encouragingly, gently placing a hand on her thigh.
“I think Vi has something to show you.”
"Oh, right! I do." She beamed, eyes lighting up with excitement. She pulled out her phone and a few seconds later, she was holding it out to you, a photo on the screen. "This was why I was so glad to run into you."
The photo was taken the day before, during the set where Victoria had taken that picture of you and Azriel. This one was from behind, capturing Azriel’s arm resting naturally around your waist as you both watched the band. The sight stirred something deep within you. You felt a smile tug at your lips as you remembered how that moment had felt—comfortable, right, as if the world outside had fallen away, leaving just the two of you.
When you met her eyes again, Victoria grinned, clearly delighted by your reaction. “Watch the live,” she said, offering you her phone to hold in your own hands.
You listened, gently taking it and pressing down on the photo. It showed you looking away from Az, a soft smile on your face, and then, right after, Az looking down at you with an expression just as soft, one that you felt deeply in your chest. You let it replay a couple of times.
No wonder Victoria had assumed you and Az were together, had complimented you like a couple, told her partner about you both. If you were an outsider watching this moment, you’d think you were a couple too—so natural, so connected. What could be, if only you were brave enough to reach for it.
Victoria’s voice pulled you back. “It was fate that I ran into you again. The picture was so cute I was tempted to post it somewhere in hopes it got to you.”
Her words made you smile and you glanced at Jamie. The way they looked at her, with such tenderness and affection, was like something out of a fairy tale. It made your heart ache, longing for something similar. Azriel's laugh echoed faintly in your head.
Jamie caught your gaze and nodded toward the phone in Victoria’s hand. “Friends don’t look at friends that way,” they said, their grin slightly teasing but gentle all the same. “Just so you know.”
Victoria sighed wistfully, leaning into Jamie as they wrapped an arm around her. "You know what I think?" You raised a brow, inviting her to continue. Her face softened as she met your gaze. "You should tell him how you feel."
You sighed, looking down at the ground. Admitting you felt something for Azriel could change the dynamic between you. And not only that, but the dynamic between you and everyone else. You liked where everything was at now. You didn’t want to ruin it.
“It’s just not that simple.”
“No one said it would be,” She said gently. She looked up at Jamie, her eyes shining a bit brighter than seconds before. “But sometimes, the best things aren’t.”
You had given Az similar advice the day before—urging him to chase his dreams and not confine himself to limitations. The irony of those very words being directed back at you now, especially about him, made you want to laugh. It felt oddly fitting and full-circle. Maybe you could write a paper about it.
Jamie tangled their fingers in Victoria’s hair. They nodded in agreement, giving you a look that said: Listen to her. She's right.
Victoria seemed to catch your hesitation and she called your attention with a gentle murmur of your name. "I'm serious," she said. "The regret of not trying will probably be much stronger than any guilt you feel now."
You smiled to yourself, picking at the grass around you and feeling the blades between your fingers. You looked at them again, amused at how your day had led you to this insightful couple and some much-needed time to spill your guts.
"You guys are so wise," you said with a small chuckle. "Y'know that?"
"It's these fucking spiked lemonades," she replied, lifting up her empty can. "They give me a fifth sense."
Jamie chuckled next to her. They patted her head gently. "Sixth."
"Huh?" She said, turning her head to look at them.
"Sixth sense, babe," they said. "You already have five senses."
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
Azriel had found you five minutes into your second conversation with Victoria and Jamie, his eyes wide and cheeks slightly red. He'd been looking for you for almost fifteen minutes, his countless calls having been sent to voicemail because your phone had been silenced. You'd apologized profusely, but Az had laughed it off, saying he was grateful that you had a shirt he could see from miles away and a hat he knew like the back of his hand. He greeted Jamie and Victoria, recognizing the latter almost immediately, and then jokingly thanked them for watching you while he was gone, making a joke that you were a wandering toddler with an affinity for shiny things.
Victoria shot you a knowing look as you both walked away.
You had a few more minutes before you were scheduled to meet the rest of the group, so you took the opportunity to enjoy the scene. You and Azriel wandered through the vibrant area of the festival where booths from local artists and craftspeople lined the grassy areas. The atmosphere was lively, filled with the hum of conversation and the occasional burst of music from nearby stages. With everything around you vying for your attention, your mind stayed tethered to the conversation with Jamie and Victoria.
You stopped when you spotted a photobooth nestled between two tables, a vintage looking thing advertising two strips of 5 photos for 12 bucks. A steep price, but something in you was drawn to it nonetheless.
You looked at Azriel with a grin. “Does the photographer feel like being photographed?
Az raised an eyebrow. “I feel like no matter what I say, you'll somehow convince me to do it anyways.”
You smiled wider, biting your lip to keep it from spreading too much. “You know me so well.”
The space was intimate, practically needing you both to sit atop of one another. You gently took his hat off, placing it in your lap as Azriel’s arm slipped comfortably around your shoulders, drawing you even closer. The gesture was casual, something he'd done countless times before, but it sent your pulse racing all the same.
Azriel’s smile was warm as he looked into the camera and you found yourself acutely aware of his presence, noting the smallest of details despite the camera's low quality. The curls on his head, the sharpness of his jaw, the way his eyes crinkled as he grinned. The smile on your face as the booth snapped its first picture was a result of staring at Az's reflection; your second smile came from the sound of his laugher, soft and genuine, filling the tiny space.
You reached out and gently cupped his cheek for one of the next poses, your fingers brushing against his skin. His expression softened. And then his fingers were grazing your hair, slowly tangling themselves by winding a strand around his finger.
As the fourth picture snapped, you noticed how he was looking at you—not at the camera, but at you. His gaze was steady and unwavering, filled with something you couldn’t quite name but felt in every fiber of your being. You turned to look at him, meeting his eyes with soft breath.
Jamie’s voice echoed in your head, a distant but persistent echo. Friends don’t look at friends that way.
The space between you seemed to contract. You took a deep breath, feeling a familiar buzz of longing resurface. And suddenly, you were eighteen again, millimeters away from Az on that Halloween night. His eyes drifted to your lips.
Victoria’'s voice whispered next: The regret of not trying will probably be much stronger than any guilt you feel now.
Azriel leaned in, his eyes drifting shut as he brought his hand up to cradle your hair. Your breath hitched and you moved to close the distance, a sudden need filling your body. Azriel, your mind seemed to whisper, repeatedly like a prayer, Azriel Azriel, Azriel—
A sudden, blinding FLASH snapped you to reality. You both pulled back slightly, eyes wide, as the booth’s camera whirred to capture the memory you’d just almost shared. Azriel blinked, clearing his throat, and you scrambled to pull back the curtain, stepping into the blinding sunshine.
You fumbled with your shirt, trying to smooth it down as though you'd been caught in some misstep. The words, I made your dad a bottom, mocked you boldly. Avoiding Azriel’s gaze, you stared at the ground as he handed you the strip of photos. Your hand brushed his briefly, lingering long enough to feel the warmth of his touch as you took the pictures.
You glanced at the photos, then looked up to find Azriel already staring at you. You opened your mouth to say something, but a familiar voice yelling your names cut you off. Mor and Cassian came sprinting towards you with wide smiles. You shoved the photo strip into your bag.
You smiled, making an effort to focus on the story Cass was animatedly telling as he wrapped an arm around you and pulled you into his side. But your eyes kept drifting back to Azriel, who seemed just as lost in thought as you.
✹ ✶ 𖧷 ✶✹
You were a sentimentalist at your core.
For as long as you could remember, you collected memories. You stored them away like treasures, delicate and fragile, saving them for rainy days when you'd wrap yourself in nostalgia like a warm blanket. You wanted everything to have meaning, for things to make sense in a world that often didn’t. Perhaps that’s what led you to study philosophy—a major that let you think too deeply about everything, that encouraged you to seek understanding to a point where nothing made sense.
The Stoics believed that the practice of virtue was enough to achieve eudaimonia, a well-lived life. As you stood in the grassy expanse, watching the lights dance across the night sky and feeling the music pulse through your veins, you thought that maybe this was what they meant. Maybe this was a well-lived life—being surrounded by the simple joy of being alive.
The sun had long set and the sky above was a blanket of deep indigo. You'd all chosen to enjoy the headliner and final performance from a distance, preferring the open space behind the throng rather than being swallowed by the crush of bodies near the stage. From your vantage point you watched the massive crowd sway in unison, a sea of bobbing heads and glowing sticks. Every now and then flashing neon lights would meet your eyes, causing you to squint at their power.
You could see it all—the band on the huge screens, the ocean of people, and the world alive around you. Your arms were intertwined with Mor and Feyre's as you danced together, singing the songs at the top of your lungs. Mor pulled you both closer and you felt her laugh more than you heard it, a rumble through her body as she beamed into the endless night.
Feyre laughed, and you watched as her gaze fell elsewhere. She squeezed you both before bouncing towards Rhys, hair flying wild and free. He caught her easily, their bodies swaying in perfect harmony and you grinned at the way they fit so effortlessly together. You stored the image of their smiles away in your mind.
Mor pulled you towards her, bringing your cheeks between her palms. Her eyes were glowing with a mixture of happiness and the alcohol in her system as she grinned.  "I'm so glad you're here!"
The words ran through you, warming every corner of your body as you smiled back to her. Distantly, you could feel the tickle of tears behind your eyes--- the urge to cry from a strange mixture of love, happiness, and guilt. You let your mind focus on that love as your smile grew wider.
"Me too," you responded loudly. "I love you."
Mor's eyes lit up even more as she squealed, pulling you into a quick hug as she repeated the words back to you, over and over. When you pulled away, you found Cassian next to you, his strong arms wrapping around both of you, drawing you into his orbit. He twirled you and you laughed, moving with him until your world was a dizzy blur of colors and lights. And when Cass moved to pull Mor, you paused for a moment, looking around the crowd. You weren't quite sure what you were searching for. But your heart seemed to be seeking it, some craving.
A few steps away were Rhys and Feyre, their faces lit up with excitement as they sang animatedly to Azriel. You turned your attention to him, observing his genuine smile and the way he moved to the music. Despite the proximity of your bodies on the same patch of grass, in this fleeting instant, he seemed distant, absorbed in his own enjoyment--- and you watched it with a sense of admiration. Your gaze lingered on his lips.
The craving you once had—whatever it was you had been searching for—faded as he laughed.
You gently pulled away from Mor and Cassian, stepping aside to watch your friends dance. The scene was too perfect to let slip away unrecorded, so you pulled out your phone and captured a bit of it. The quality would suck in the darkness, the figures mostly shadow with laser lights painting them in brief flashes of color, but you didn’t care.
A bittersweet ache ran through you. You'd never have this moment again. And if you parted ways after graduation, you'd miss out on many more moments like this. When you looked back up, Az was approaching you. There was a smile on his face that matched the warmth in you, a sense of peace that paired perfectly with that tingling excitement that Az often made you feel.
He extended his hand towards you. "It's time to take your own advice.”
You looked at his outstretched hand, then up at him, a smile tugging at your lips. He didn't need to explain his words further. You knew exactly what he was referring to. Almost instantly, your mind traveled to the countless times you had urged him to embrace the moment, attempted to pull him out of his head.
You let out a determined breath and grabbed his hand, intertwining your fingers with his as you pulled him back towards the group. Mor and Feyre had blended into a new group, singing along and laughing with their new friends. Meanwhile, Cassian and Rhys were dancing in a playful, almost mocking manner, with Cassian humorously mimicking the way Rhys and Feyre had been dancing closely.
You tugged Azriel into the midst of it all, letting him guide you into a light twirl. The music wrapped around you, the lights casting an ethereal glow over the jubilant crowd. The world narrowed into this experience--- to you and Az surrounded by your friends, to Mor singing the lyrics to a giggling Feyre.
The Stoics believed in many things. They believed in the value of virtue and the pursuit of wisdom, in accepting the things we cannot change, and most importantly, they believed in the power of the present moment. It is the only thing we have control over.
Your wandering thoughts from earlier were all true. You'd never be this young again. You'd never attend this same festival, never be this drunk, never dance like this in this exact constellation of friends and music. You'd miss out on many memories, many moments just as joyous.
You’d never have this exact moment again.
But right now, it was all yours.
And that was all that mattered.

Morning
-I am of the opinion that Azriel fucks you differently depending upon the time of day.
-Let's start with morning, shall we?
-Azriel is a scheduled, reliable male. Training in the morning, always, no matter the night he had before. He owed it to his High Lord to always be ready for a fight - physically, and mentally. His constant, consistent training was how he maintained that.
-However, what Rhys didn't know about what he partook in before training wouldn't hurt him.
-When Az would wake in the morning next to your - usually naked - sleeping, curled, warm body, hair sprayed across the pillows, scent unique to you filling his lungs, face painted in pure elation and serenity...
-...yeah, he would get a little hard.
-The best was when you would wake up with him, eyes dull with sleep, but their color still bright. A small, languid smile on your face. He couldn't help but touch you in that moment, his body begging him to satisfy every sense he had with the feeling of you.
-He would begin with your face, dragging the knuckle of his pointer finger across your cheekbone. Opening his palm to feel the entirety of your cheek. Tracing down the column of your throat with his pointer finger. Painting across your collarbone with every digit. Cupping your breasts delicately, fondling them, massaging them. Dragging fingers down the center of your stomach, heating up every inch of it before finally...
-...yeah, I think we get it.
-The interesting thing about sex in the morning with Azriel is that, although it begins slow, he goes fucking fast in the mornings. Pounding his fingers into you over and over again, your cum dripping down his fingers and wrist. When he finally tastes you, it's a feast. Sloppy and wet and messy and you're groaning and he's smiling so fucking big. He gets you right on the edge of euphoria before pulling back and pressing a quick kiss to your lips and turning you around, face pressed against your soft pillow, and plunging himself inside of you without a drop of mercy.
-(All of this happens within minutes because, like I said, he's got a schedule to keep).
-As he ravages you, pumping in and out and in and out faster than your brain can process, he fucking sweats. It drips down his back, down his face, across his lips, down his chest, everywhere. Your still drowsy body loves when you scrape your nails down it, coating your palms with it and fucking up his previously clean, fluffed hair with it.
-The finest, perfect part about his sex in the morning is that, even though it's rough, quick, rabid, he holds you close the entire time. He cradles your head in his forearms, litters your spine in passionate, lingering kisses, holds your hips like a cracking sculpture, caresses your scalp, thighs, and lower back.
-It is a paradox; rough yet gentle, greedy yet giving, horrid yet beautiful, quick yet endless, and hateful, yet some of the most loved you ever feel by him.
-When he finishes, and you finish multiple times, he departs you with only a kiss, and rushes down the stairs to make it in just enough time for Cassian to not suspect anything.
-He gives you smirks and winks all day anyway, much to your chagrin.
Afternoon
-Around mid to late afternoon is when Azriel tends to get an itch.
-An itch to step away from it all: his desk, his tasks, his responsibilities.
-Sometimes this itch can be scratched by something simple: a walk around Velaris, or a flight, a cup of cocoa, or even a quick nap.
-Other times, however, this metaphorical itch can only be scratched by the exclusive, spectacular taste of his mate.
-And luckily for you, Azriel is the fucking king of quickies.
-He finds you within minutes, utilizing the convenient bond cemented in his very bones, and conveys his desires with only a look.
-Some days, you decline. Too busy with work, too tired from a night previous, or just plainly not in the mood.
-On these days, Azriel understands. He leaves you respectfully, always with a short kiss and a silent promise of "later" permeating in the air.
-On the days where you do accept, however, is when Azriel truly lights on fire.
-The caveat to quickies with Azriel, however, is that he cannot risk any...leakage onto his clothing. Whether that be cum, spit, or otherwise.
-Frankly, you couldn't either. The both of you took your jobs and professionalism too seriously.
-Which is what makes these quickies so fucking good.
-He kisses you, hard, and lifts you under your ass against his waist to press you against a nearby wall, covering the both of you in shadow. He kisses you until your head spins before unzipping whatever top you have on, and claiming the shit out of your breasts.
-Gods how he loves your breasts.
-He kisses and licks, nibbles and bites, marks and marks and marks you all over your chest and ribcage, whispering words dripping in honey.
-"All mine, these are all mine, aren't they?"
-"Never going to get enough of these - enough of you."
-"I can hear your heart, baby. Need a break?"
-"Fuck you," you respond, your matching smiles and shining eyes giving away your infectious joy.
-He kisses your tits long enough to make your mouth go dry from hanging open so long, before finally making his way up to your throat, whispering "mine" along the column.
-Never leaving a mark.
-He kisses around your pulse, and sometimes you kiss around his as well, before finally recolliding his mouth with your own, and kissing you like a male starved. Mapping you like a cartographer exploding a new land. Rejoicing in the mix of your skin and your mouth on his tongue like a male on his knees in prayer.
-You would think just kisses from him wouldn't count as a quickie, but with how thoroughly and religiously and hungrily he does, you come close to release every time.
-The both of you counted it.
-On days when his cartography becomes too much to bare, or the ego in your chest roars at the thought of him getting you so close to release by just his kisses, your fingers finagle their way to the tent growing in his pants, and palm him through the leather.
-Azriel felt that, as long as your mouth was not on him, he could control himself. The bar of professionalism would be met, and the risk of leakage would be next to none.
-But you have never been one not to test a theory, especially in the name of science.
-You palm him so wretchedly ferociously and savagely that you can practically sketch the exact curve, vein, and girth of his bulge. That's how hard he gets through his pants. You wonder if there is any blood left for his brain.
-You even push him away from you and lick him through the leather, never enough to stain his pants, but enough for him to feel the heat of your tongue cupping his balls and dragging across his dick.
-Still, he never comes, not once; however, that didn't mean he didn't retaliate.
-On days when you'd suck him off this way, he strikes back like a true Illyrian warrior.
-Unforgiving, and calculated.
-He guides you away from him, and does the exact same thing to you.
-Fingers you through your pants, pressing the fabric so taught against your clit you thought you would explode, before pulling his hand away, and replacing it with his mouth. Licking your folds through the fabric, nudging your clit with his nose, devouring and consuming you through the protection of one tiny piece of fabric.
-The mix of heat and fabric is so delicious that, every time, he leaves you near tears.
-He pulls away from you slowly, makes sure you can stand on two feet, and with one last kiss to your cheek, he backs away from you.
-"Later," he whispers, one of his shadows drying the tears staining your hot cheeks. "I want more of you later. I want more of you always."
-You always somehow return to the task you were attempting to accomplish previously, mind puddy, hands shaking, and breasts deliciously sore.
Night
-So yes, Azriel likes to fuck you fast. Leave you wanting more. Drooling for him. Pooling on the floor. Left on shaking knees. Departing from you with only a few words.
-But his favorite, most beloved way to fuck you is to make love to you. Slowly. Intimately. In every way he knows you love.
-And that is how he does it at nighttime.
-But, I am getting ahead of myself.
-After long days of meetings, missions, planning, or even just boring paperwork, there is nothing he adores more than a quiet, serene dinner with you. He enjoys cooking the meal himself, usually making something one of you has mentioned having a recent craving for, and absolutely beaming when you finally walk through the door.
-You join him in the kitchen, and immediately wrap your hands around his waist, pulling him into a hug. He holds you close, breathing in the products in your hair, and kissing the top of your head.
-"How was your day?" you ask him.
-He's honest. Somedays he says "good," somedays he says "okay," and somedays he just sighs.
-You don't usually ask him to elaborate on those days unless you get the feeling that he wants to, but no matter what, he always asks you the question back.
-You are always honest with him too.
-After that, he finishes off dinner, and the two of you eat. Some nights it's full of conversations, sometimes superficial, like how the weather has been, but sometimes they're deep. Deep enough that sometimes he wonders if your words are able to reach inside of his brain and stroke it, hitting it exactly where he needs to be challenged, praised, or questioned.
-It was unreal every time, how well you knew him.
-Other nights, however, were coated in comfortable silence. Maybe you were both too tired to talk, or too content, or couldn't think of much to say. He never minded. If there was anything he could appreciate, it was happy, wonderful, comfortable silence. It was a sign that his day had come to an end, he had kept his Court and his people safe, and he had done at least something right.
-And what better way to bask in the safety of silence than with the person who knows you better than anyone, and the person you have more love for than stars in the sky.
-After the two of you have full stomachs, he always leads you to your shared bedroom by his arm, and pushes your chair in for you.
-Your face heats every time. Without fail.
-So does his.
-He leads you to the bedroom and kisses you once, twice, three times, before departing to take care of the dishes. He pictures how you make the mundane, simple task of getting ready for bed so godsdamn beautiful: your face cleaned, your hair refreshed, your breath newly minted, and your shoulders and jaw relaxed. A timeless beauty. A vulnerable sight, only for him.
-He finishes up and heads back to you, hands clean and soul at ease. He finds you already in bed; maybe reading, maybe writing, maybe already closing your eyes.
-He gets ready for bed himself, making sure his teeth and tongue are brushed thoroughly.
-Some nights, that is it. He joins you in bed and you drift off together, holding each other close at the beginning of the night, and closer in the morning. Smiles on your faces. Soft snores escaping you. Bodies breathing in sync.
-But not most nights.
-Most nights, after him joining you in bed, you pull him in, and kiss him so softly he barely feels it.
-But it's there.
-"Touch me, Azriel," you whisper, "and let me touch you."
-And he lets you.
-The kisses start soft, just lips on lips, before your tongue breaks his lips apart, and your bodies begin to warm up. Either he lays you down on your back or you push him down, either way, one of you gets on top of the other, and the two of you begin to do nothing less than venerate each other.
-So much kissing, so much feeling each other up and down; down each other's backs, across each other's faces, through each other's hair, across each other's stomachs, and so much breathing and groaning against each other's skin.
-This is all before a scrap of clothing comes off.
-When it does, however, Azriel undresses you like a nurse would undress a wound. Almost in slow motion, so he can take a peek at how every inch of your body looks that day. Maybe you gained a bruise, a scratch, a freckle, or a stretch mark. Either way, he wanted to make note of every inch of your body, memorizing every way your skin moved or wrinkled, your muscles flexed. He needs the image of you in his mind constantly updated.
-You do the same to him. Collecting every change in his body and adding them to his mental schema.
-When all of your clothes are finally off, and his mate stands before him completely raw, is when he begins to lose control of his mouth.
-"Gods, have you always looked like this?"
-"So warm, so soft."
-"How come every time I see you, I feel like I've spent my entire life blind?"
-His claim of never needing to resort to poetry holds true, but that doesn't mean he isn't damn good at it.
-After minutes and minutes of leaving hickeys, kisses, and indents on each other, so much so that both of your lower stomachs have begun to boil and your lungs are gasping for air, is when Azriel pulls away.
-"Can I?" he asks as he presses his forehead against yours, his hazel eyes glowing and his bulge pressed against your slick. You nod, smiling, and with one last kiss, he slides home.
-And fuck does he go nauseatingly slow.
-Even if you're on top, he ensures you pierce yourself with him with purpose, sliding his dick all the way in, all the way out, and all the way in, over and over and over.
-It was fucking heaven how well he fit in you, how he got you so wet you didn't even need to try, how deep his dick goes inside of you...
-...and how he has no qualms about never shutting the fuck up.
-Especially when you're on top - the view of you sliding him in and out of you, your body fully open to him to admire, and face at his disposal to kiss and whisper into.
-"My mate, oh my mate."
-"Right there, do you feel that? Fuck you take me so well."
-"My gods look at us, look at me in you."
-"You like that? Right there? I fucking love you. My mate. My love. My soul."
-As I said, poetry.
-One thing he never fails to take advantage of is the full-length mirror leaning against your wall, giving the both of you the perfect menu of angles to view yourselves.
-I think you know where this is going.
-"Look at us, baby. Look at us."
-"You're so fucking beautiful."
-"Look at yourself when you take me inside you."
-He goes on and on, drunk on the feeling of you, diminishing him of any sort of filter.
-I cannot imagine any reason you would want to shut up the most private, silent male in all of Prythian while he's sprouting sweet nothings to you, but if you do, there's one surefire way to do it.
-Reaching out your pointer and middle finger, only two fingers are necessary, and tracing thin lines down the veins in his wings.
-Never will you ever see him go so silent so quickly. His cheeks instantly redden and his voice escapes him. His cock begins to twitch inside you, his grip on either you or the sheets becomes so fierce his scarred knuckles turn a milk white, and his mouth falls open.'
-He becomes immediately and totally helpless.
-The two of you begin to fuck harder then, chasing the high the both of you are so close to, fucking into each other faster and faster and faster until finally you are coming on his cock, and he is spraying across your thighs.
-Finding release with a mate is different than any other - it is blinding, hot, and immeasurably pleasurable. It fills every vein in your body with a molten rapture, forcing you to collapse into his body, and his own to collapse onto yours. The bond within both of your chests throbbing in delight like a second heartbeat.
-After a few moments of you practically regaining consciousness, his warm, sweat covered body begins to move against you, making sure your head is comfortable on a pillow and your body is flat. He then presses kisses all across your face, etching a smile onto your face.
-"I still believe," he whispers against your temple, "that I will never get enough. I love you I love you I love you."
-The smell of sex and sweat vanquishes your nostrils as you stand up and head to the bathroom, Az's eyes burning holes through your skin.
-By the time you return, Azriel's arms are open to you, and you tuck yourself in. He holds you impossibly close, his miniscule chest hair rubbing against your cheek. His wings add a second layer of protection.
-Your body begins to fade, but your mind lingers a little longer to process one final statement whispered into your hair.
-"Gods, never allow me to be parted from her."

Starfall With The General
Cassian X Fem Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Starfall is upon the inner circle the first one since Rhys has returned from Under the Mountain. You are finding more reasons to celebrate as your brother has finally returned home. The only thing missing is your favorite General, who unbeknownst to you planned a night you would never forget.
Content warning: Brief mention of abuse, talks about grief
A/N: Few things! First this is my first time writing for ACOTAR so feedback is always welcome! Secondly, if anyone is interested in a second part of this please let me know!
Word Count: 3k
Standing in front of the full-length mirror, you looked at the black off the shoulder, lace dress that hugged your curves a slit rising to your mid-thigh with your eyes and red painted on your lips you bit the inside of your lip second guessing the choice of attire. “Mor, don’t you think that this dress is a bit much?” You called out as the bubbly blonde stepped out of the bathroom holding something in her hands. You smoothed out the lace that hugged your hips and became slightly self-conscious of how tight it was. Silver lace whirled around the black fabric making you look like you were hugged by light shadows.
Mor approached you giving you a once over, as you noticed that something was glistening in her hands. “Nonsense, you look like a goddess and with these,” She opened her hand to reveal a hairpin with a red jewel on the end with a velvet choker with another red jewel matching the one on the hairpiece, causing You to raise her brow, “You will have males and females on their knees.” Mor met your eyes and sighed, “Trust me.”  You nodded in acknowledgment for her to continue and Mor pulled back some of your hair behind your pointed ear and slid the pin in. Moving behind You she placed the choker around her neck, the red jewel glistening in the candlelight.
Mor gripped your shoulders and looked at you through the mirror, “You look beautiful, Y/N,” she smiled, and you reached for her hand to give it a squeeze. “I bet you’ll captivate the attention of a certain General too.” Your heartrate sped at the mention of the General of the Night Court’s armies, causing Mor to laugh picking up on the different pace your heart was not beating at, “I’m going to check on Feyre, see you downstairs?” You nodded and released Mor’s hand as the blonde sauntered out of your bedroom.
Your gaze reverted to the mirror at your reflection. The glistening of the Red Jewel on the choker complimented the extravagant gown. The color scheme reminded you of Illyrian leathers and red siphons, you placed your hand over the jewel and let your mind wander to Lord of Bloodshed. His warm hazel eyes, his jovial smile that made your pulse quicken, even his wings that always tucked you close when you were cold, his hands that you on more than one occasion imagined around your-
A knock on the door caused You to jolt out of your stupor and you step away from the mirror and reach for the door. You smiled as Azriel stood on the other side of the door. You drank in the Shadowsinger as he had forgone the flight leathers and wore a black dress shirt that complimented his tone figure and dress pants. His shadows lingered low on his shoulders barely stirring at her assessing gaze. You met his hazel eyes, “Well, Shadowsinger, I must say you clean up nicely.”
Azriel took a moment to gaze you his observant eyes locked on her necklace and the crimson-colored jewel that deigned your neck. His eyes met yours again with gave her a smirk, “I could say the same about you.” He held out his arm and you slid your arm through his as the two of you made your descent to the party. A cool sensation kissed your neck causing you to giggle as shadows swirled around your neck and bare back tickled you. “They like you.” Az teased and he let out an exasperated sigh, “And they insist you know that you look beautiful tonight. Heat rose in your cheeks at the compliment and your eyes widened as lips pressed lightly on your flushed face causing you to pause stop in her tracks. “My shadows aren’t wrong, Y/N, you are a vision tonight.” you met his eyes, and found mischief behind them, “Could have the Lord of Bloodshed on his knees worshiping you tonight.”
Your brows furrowed slightly at the suggestion; this was the second occurrence that your close friends brought up Cassian having his attention on you that night. It was making it more difficult to dampen with the swell of hope it gave you. Cassian was your best friend had been for as long as you could remember, and you were naturally attracted to him but never wanted to pursue anything more. You didn’t want to risk his rejection as he had so quickly become an unwavering presence in your life that it was not worth risking losing his friendship in the hopes of something more. He was kind and patient but always pushed you to your limits to make you a better fighter, and friend. The Lord of Bloodshed was loyal as well going as far as defending you, when and Illyrian who made a comment on her figure and her capability to fight. He was everything you wanted and would hope your mate-
The cold kiss of a shadow against your hand brought you back to the present and to Azriel who had his brows furrowed in concern, “Where did you go?”
You waved him off and gave his arm a reassuring squeeze, “No where, come on, Spymaster, I don’t want to miss the show.” You could tell that Azriel didn’t believe you but wasn’t going to push you on it. As they approached the entrance to the ballroom in the House of Wind the noise of people on the other side grew louder. Both you and Azriel pushed open the doors and were greeted with heads turning in our direction. You took a sharp intake of breath, having the attention on you especially being part of the High Lord’s court was something you never were used to.
As you walked into the room conversations resumed, A scarred hand gave yours a comforting squeeze, “Want something to drink?” Az’s whispered. You nodded and he untangled your arms to go fetch drinks for the two of you.
Leaving you to scan for the rest of your friends and by the open balcony doors violet eyes met your own. The High Lord of the Night Court gave you a smile and you could feel something trying to break through your shields and let him in, “you trying to out dress me at my own party, Y/N, you wound me.”
You rolled your eyes as you headed in his direction, “If only to knock your ego down a peg, Rhys”. Looking at the high lord and how handsome he looked in his signature formal wear smiling in your direction you couldn’t help but think of Starfall years previous, when Rhys was trapped under that dreaded mountain, there were no lavish parties, no celebrations. Only the hope one day your friend would come home to enjoy it with you was what kept you from falling apart all those years. Him being home and even though there was a faint look of exhaustion in his star-flecked eyes, he overall looked happy.
Rhys smile grew as he grabbed you in a tight embrace, “I am happy, Y/N.” You weren’t even upset that you let your feelings flood to him if only for a moment. You pulled away and the pad of his thumb brushes away stray tears that have fallen on their own. “Don’t waste your tears on me.”
You grip his hand and give it a comforting squeeze, “It’s just nice, to have you back home.” Another intake of breath, “I missed you, terribly, and there was a point I never thought I’d see you again,” His hand squeezes yours in response. You open your mind to him and show him the love and appreciation you have for him, things you never got a chance to say before he was ripped away from you.
His eyes glean as tears of his own threaten to spill but he clears his throat, blinks a few times and kisses the knuckles of the hand he has not let go of. “We need to catch up, you and I, what say we have dinner soon just us.”
You nodded earnestly, “I would like that a lot, Rhys,” you whispered.
“Me too, you know you have always been like a sister to me, and that I love you.”  I nod my head, “Good,” he says aloud and really takes in your appearance, as if his mind is also wandering off to those 50 years when he didn’t believe he was going to celebrate Starfall with his family either. He shakes his head slightly and smiles at you, looking you up head to toe, “You look beautiful, tonight. Any reason in particular for wearing Red and Black?” His eyebrow quirks.
You release his hand and cross your arms, “Mor is a busybody who ambushed me and chose my outfit and the accessories for them,” you grumbled and that caused Rhys to chuckle as Azriel approached with three glasses in his hand, handing one to yourself and the High Lord. Azriel meets Rhys’ gaze, and the prolonged silence told you that they were having a conversation. You let them have an interaction as you scanned the room once more hoping to see her general.
You look back over to the two Illyrian warriors to see that their gaze has reached the entrance where Mor and Feyre stood. Feyre was gorgeous in that silver gown that resembled starlight, her eyes scanning the room until she found Rhys’ and he sucked in a breath, like air had been ripped from his lungs. Azriel and you gave a quick glance, smirking at one another. “Go get your girl, High Lord.” You mused causing Rhysand to give you a dirty look as you of all people rarely called him by his title. “Go on, enjoy tonight, you have earned that right.” You planted a chaste kiss to his cheek and pushed him toward the entrance to meet his cousin and the once human girl halfway.
Azriel closed the space that Rhys left, stepping closer to you, “Cassian is going to be late, said he had a few things left to take care of before he arrived,” Azriel said casually sipping from his glass as the two of you looked at Rhys talking with Mor and Feyre.
“Hmm,” was your only response, taking another sip as Rhys grabbed Feyre’s hand and took her away from the party, a pang of jealousy sat low in your abdomen, not because of Rhys’ affection toward Feyre, you were glad that your brother had found someone he enjoys, but wishing someone would look at her the way he had with Feyre, his mate. You had a good life, a great family who loved and doted on you, but there was a part of you that yearned for that unyielding love and devotion from someone, the love you read about as a child and later as an adult with your romance book collection.  You took another sip of your drink and watched others gather and dance enjoying the festivities.
A few hours Everyone began congregating towards the open balcony doors as the night raged on. You had lost Azriel in the crowd, not long after he told you Cassian was going to be late. Well, the stars were about to pass through at any moment, and he still hadn’t shown up. Worry and fear sat in the pit of your stomach hoping that something was wrong and that he was hurt. Then the hair on the back of your neck stood up, and a distinct tug had you walking away from the crowd and toward the door.
Taking a look back one last time Azriel’s gaze found yours and he lifted his glass and gave you a nod of goodbye as you left the party. Following the pull that led you up the stairs to your room, you opened your door. Slipping off your shoes a moan escaping your lips as your feet met the luxurious carpet, you felt a gentle cool breeze kiss your skin. You turn and notice the door to your balcony is open the dark colored curtains gently moving with the breeze. You stood alert as you knew your door was shut when you left.
Walking toward the balcony you were weary and tried to reach out to Rhys in your mind. There was no answer.  A calm feeling swept through your body and against your training you stepped out onto the balcony. The night sky was clear and the stars were bright but no sign of an intruder, then as you looked up you saw the first shooting star of the evening. A soul traveling across the sky as the breeze picked up causing a shiver to run down your spine. Entranced by the Starfall you leaned against the balconies railing enjoying the sight, the worries you were having before falling to the wayside. You were so entranced at the sky you were unaware of the steps that were made behind you or saw the shimmering red siphons glowing in your darkened bedroom.
Cassian watched you gazing at the stars leaning against your balcony in reverence. Leaning against the door frame as he studied the back of your head, content to watch you peacefully. The inner circle had a hard time with his brother’s absence, but Cassian knew that it had cut you deeply to have his brother ripped away. He also knew that you felt more deeply and tried to keep those bad feelings to yourself as to not be a burden to others. It was one of the many things he loved about you that undying selflessness. Though he always made sure you were taken care of as you always put yourself last and when Rhys was gone you had thrown yourself into work and helping others and always making people smile in the darkest of times, but him and Azriel were aware of how many nights you were in your room sobbing over the loss of your brother.
Which is why it was so easy to get the Inner Circle on board with his plans tonight to make this evening special for you. Mor had already tasked herself with your outfit, Rhys, Az and Amren would keep there distance and be difficult to find so you felt more inclined to sneak away back to your room. Giving Cassian the perfect opportunity to be alone with you. Cassian's eyes flicked to your dress and the red of the hair pin shimmering in the moonlight. The color scheme was not lost on the general if anything a primal possessiveness almost bubbled as if you wearing the same color as his siphons and leathers made you his. He made a mental note to thank Mor for dressing her in that tonight. Though the dress hugged your beautiful curves just like the leathers you wore training with him. He imagined digging his fingers around your plump ass and when you had walked in, and moaned Cassian almost felt like he was going to pass out.
He had been attracted to you from the day Rhys, and Azriel and him found you in the forest on the Night Court border. Though you were in the midst of escaping from an abusive partner that was chasing you in the forest that day. The 3 brothers neutralized the threat of your former partner that day and insisted you come back to Velaris where the 4 of you have been inseparable ever since. Though he knew the first time he looked into your eyes that, he was yours hook, line and sinker.
Shaking his head from his thoughts He feinted a cough causing you to spin on your heels and the fear morphed into glee as you registered who was behind you, “You’re home!” You run up and wrap your arms around his neck. His muscled arms wrapping around your waist lifting you from the ground. Cassian couldn’t help but grin at your words as he put you down his hands still gripping your waist, “I know Rhys, said you would be late, but I was worried something happened.” You furrowed your brow slightly indicating your worry.
Cassian simply pressed his lips to your hairline, “Sorry to worry you, Sweetheart, I’m here now and I come with a present.”
You shoot him a weary look acutely aware that his thumbs are drawing comforting circles around your hips “Cassian, we don’t exchange gifts for Starfall.”
The General smiled, “So you don’t want it?”
You rolled your eyes, “I never said that,” You met his Hazel eyes to find his pupils had blown out and that he was looking at the necklace with the bright red gem on your neck causing heat to once again rose to your face. His gaze is like a caress and you try to dampen the arousal you feel at his heated gaze. “Cass,” you breathe out his name and Cassian closes his eyes and hums as he leans into your neck, his scent overwhelming your senses as he presses a chaste kiss to your heated skin.
“You look breathtaking tonight, Princess.” His breath warms your ear as a calloused hand grazes your bare back, “Are your ready for your gift?”
You nodded as he reluctantly pulls away from you, you instantly missing the warmth of his touch and reaching into bag you took in that he was also not in his usual leathers but in a deep maroon dress shirt his sleeves rolled to reveal his toned forearms and black pants that accentuated his assets that made your blood warm. He pulls put a small box with black ribbon and hands it to you. You open the box and gasped, pulling out a silver locket your initials carved into it causing a memory to resurface:
Your eyes were red and splotchy from crying the night before , Rhys was gone, ripped away from his home, his brothers, you. Fear had taken the inner circle by neck and no one knew what to do. You spent a lot of time walking around Velaris seeing others give you solemn smiles. You hated being pitied even more hating the looks they gave as if her beloved friend was never coming home. You always tried to counter it by making sure every person you interacted with felt happy and better than they were before you came around trying to ignore your own dreaded feelings ringing in your ears.
It had been weeks, and you were beginning to feel like he was never coming home either. Walking down the rainbow bridge, twirling the locket that held the portrait of you, Rhys, Cassian and a reluctant Azriel in it, a gift from Rhys for Solstice one year saying you were part of the family, getting lost in your thoughts alone. Though you knew you weren’t alone you could feel Cassian’s presence above. He always kept enough distance so he wouldn’t be reprimanded but close enough to be there if you needed him. Az made sure you were never alone either a lingering shadow that lingered around your feet every time you left the townhouse.
You paused looking out at the Sidra the sun glistening over the sea. You closed your eyes wishing that Rhys, hadn’t left, hadn’t sacrificed himself. Wishing this was all a terrible dream that you needed to wake up from. A small bout of anger washed over you, you ripped the necklace from around your neck and threw it and heard it splash in the water. Wrapping your arms around yourself you walked away knowing full well when you reached your room fresh wave of tears would surface.
Calloused hands were on your cheeks bringing you back to the present, warm honeyed eyes met yours. “There you are,” He whispered, swiping away tears that had slipped for the second time this evening.
You looked down at the locket in your hand and opened it, the image still intact surprisingly a few smudges from drops of water but was not destroyed. “How did you get this?”
Cassian gave her a grin, “If my memory serves me right, you called me a drowned rat the day I retrieved it.” You think back and your eyes go wide in surprise Cassian continued, “I knew you would want that back one day, so after you walked away, I dived into the water and got it back.” He removed his hands from your face and shrugged, grabbing the necklace and twirled his finger indicating for you to turn around. You spun around and moved your hair out of the way to make it easier for him to clasp the necklace around your neck. When he put the necklace on his hand lingered on the back of your neck causing a shiver to track down your back.
Your brows furrowed as you turned back to face him, “Why not give it back to me when you got home?”
Cassian paused for a moment and sighed, “You threw it in the Sidra in the first place, you want to try and convince me it wouldn’t have ended up in the fireplace next?” Your silence encouraged him to press forward, “I kept it safe knowing, hoping, that Rhys would come home. When he winnowed back that day from that dreaded mountain, you reached out to clasp the locket and had a pained look when you were met with bare skin.”
You began wringing your hands with nerves, “Why wait for tonight?”
Cassian’s wings flared slightly, as he walked to the railing looking up at the night sky, flashes of green and blue painting the sky. You followed him and he offered his hand palm out, a silent request, you slipped your hand in his and he interlaced your fingers, and your pulse was ringing in your ears. “Few reasons, the first was because I had to pick it up, I had it cleaned and polished last week.” He paused and you saw a flash of nervousness in his face. You squeezed his hand with quiet encouragement. He turned and faced you, using the hand that was intertwined with yours he pulls you close, his free hand splayed across your back. Your chest pressed against his front, your breaths quicken, as he bends down and kisses you.
You unlock your hand from his to wrap around his neck, as you deepen the kiss. Then something clicks inside you, your eyes snap open as you press your free hand on his chest and push slightly. The General pulls away from you only to press his forehead against yours and your eye sees the tether that connects you two. “Cassian,” You whisper, fresh tears spring up. “You’re my mate.”
