In this series – we get to see what may have happened in Liam let fear keep him from proposing to MC (Daniella) when he had the chance. Instead, he didn’t choose her out of fear that doing so would put her more in harm’s way.  When Daniella returns and Liam has to watch her fall for another man … let’s just say sparks fly.  Come see if Liam can prove he still has what is needed to get the girl.

The pregnant Queen is finally awake.  She’s on anesthesia and a bit high – so that’s entertaining.  Liam’s anger is thawing towards Drake (finally!) This series is so good – so if you haven’t started it – it’s time to catch up.  And if you’ve been waiting for the next chapter – here it is!

Colette comes to Cordonia on a mission.  Drake seems to know her and be able to vouch for her.  Liam, of course, falls for her quickly.  As people in high places end up in jail for their illegal activities, Colette’s life is threatened.   Is Colette a danger to the crown?  Will Liam be able to keep her safe?

11/25/2019 - It has been over a year since I updated If Only, and I feel absolutely sick about it.  I apologize for not updating as regularly as I should have.  I came back in May with the intent to keep writing and bring new stories to the fandom, but my world got rocked with a horrible family situation.  I went MIA initially because I had a family emergency come up in September of 2018.  My father was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer.  He became stable at the beginning of May which prompted me to feel a bit reinvigorated to write again.  We were thrown for a loop when he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the end of May after a brief period of stabilization. His kidneys shut down and he went into respiratory failure.  Ironically, the cancer may have weakened him, but it wasn't his cause of death.  I was a wreck.  I've slowly gone through the grieving process and wanted to try my hand at writing again.  I can't promise you I'll be consistent, but I'm going to try. Thank you all for the amazing support and thoughts.  Thank you for your sweet reviews.  I will be going through all of them. <3

Chapter 18

Riley was certain of one thing – she would always find herself awestruck at being able to fly on a private airplane.  She hadn’t traveled all that much before, but when she did, it was a pain.  The astronomical cost of airline tickets, the long lines, the long list of TSA security no-nos that she could never seem to grasp . . . all of it made the whole prospect of travelling more of a nuisance than anything else.  Traveling with Liam, on the other hand, had been nothing but a dream since the moment they got to the airport.  Liam once again took charge guiding her to where they needed to check in.  Things at the airport had gone just as smoothly as they had when they left Las Vegas.  Actually, it had gone even smoother than Las Vegas since they were flying out internationally and that terminal had not been nearly as crowded as the domestic terminals.  Liam once again breezed by as Riley trailed behind him, still unaccustomed to the life of private jet-setting.  She still found the entire thing to be a bit surreal.  What normally would have been a two hour process had only taken them twenty minutes.  Apparently, the life of royalty had some major perks.

A little over an hour later, Riley found herself sitting on the private plane that was scheduled to take them to Cordonia.  She stared absently out of the plane’s window as she contemplated how differently her life had ended up than what she had planned out over the years.  For one, she never, ever saw herself sitting on a private plane as they waited for the all clear for takeoff.  For another, she never thought she’d get married to a complete stranger on a whim – in Vegas, no less.  Then again, she also never thought she’d ever meet someone like Liam.  She bit her lip lightly as she watched him joke around with the flight crew.  Apparently, he knew all of them quite well.  They weren’t treating him like a prince, but rather an old friend who they were excited to see.  But that was the thing about Liam – despite his royal roots, he seemed like such an average, ordinary, everyday guy.  He was genuinely a good guy - somebody you could sit around and have hours of conversation with and never got bored.  She smiled and watched as he fawned over pictures of one of the flight attendant’s newborn grand-daughter.  He never fell short of amazing her.  She had always pictured herself winding up with some sort of science geek, who, like her, had spent years focusing on his education to land the perfect job.  Liam was completely different.  The connection they shared was one in a million.  The time they spent together alone in her apartment had further solidified that fact.  She’d have been foolish to let him slip away from her in Vegas, and if she had, she’d likely never find that sort of connection with someone else ever again.  Their relationship wasn’t something that you could just dismiss as being a spur of the moment, one-time fling.  He made her feel alive again, and she loved how he had forced her to reevaluate the life she was living, and helped her to see that none of it was what she wanted.  It felt as if they had known each other for years instead of only a few days.  There was just something about Liam that brought out her desire for an exciting new adventure.  For the first time in years, she didn’t have a plan, and it scared the shit out of her.  There was no denying the fact that she felt like she was swimming in the deep end of the pool without any sort of lifejacket.  But, for some reason, she was okay with that, because she knew she’d have Liam by her side to help keep her afloat.  

Riley’s smile grew as he chatted with a different flight attendant about their travel plans when they got to Cordonia.  He was going on and on about how he wanted to take her to their country house to show her the orchards of apple trees.  She looked around the bustling plane – apart from the three flight attendants she had seen, she had counted four more flight attendants and two pilots on their flight.  She shook her head in disbelief.  It was crazy to think that all nine members of the flight crew were aboard just for them.  It was hard to believe that this was her life now.  

Liam grasped one of the male attendants on the shoulder as he headed back over to where she was sitting.  “You look rather deep in thought,” he murmured as he sidled into the seat next to her.

She smiled softly.  “Just thinking about what a whirlwind this has all been.  I guess it’s just hard to believe that we won’t have to listen to crying babies or fighting for space for our carry-ons in the overhead compartment.”

“I admit, those are things I have never had to worry about when I traveled,” he smirked.  “But I can imagine those sorts of things would be rather inconvenient.”

“Exceptionally so,” she chuckled.  “You’re so amazing with people, Liam.  The way you talk to them and treat them with the utmost respect regardless of your status,” Riley looked at him in admiration.  “You’re just a genuine, sweet man,” she said, clasping her hand in his.

He looked at her adoration.  “I’ve known all of them for years – since I was old enough to travel with my father,” he smiled.  “They’re like another set of family members.  The older woman I was talking to?  Dolores?  She just welcomed her first granddaughter.  My father gave her some time off to spend with the new baby,” he explained.  “Being royal doesn’t make you any less human.  Having compassion and being respectful are just decent things to do,” he explained as he squeezed her hand back.

“Well, you don’t see a lot of that in New York,” Riley mused.  “And I’ll be honest, people can become a bit snooty when power goes to their head.  Trust me.”  She thought of the many rude people she encountered as she walked along the streets of New York City.  There was always some guy in a total rush with a cell phone pressed against his ear and a briefcase swinging from his hand pushing his way down the sidewalk trying to get the next available cab.  New York people were savage.

Liam chuckled at her observation.  “Quite true, love.  I assure you, that is just how I was raised.  I just couldn’t live with myself if I treated anyone with anything but the respect that they deserve.”

“You are one in a million, Liam Rys.” She smiled broadly, squeezing his hand tightly.

“As are you, Riley Rys,” he winked at her.  

She blushed as she changed the subject.  “So, do we have any layovers or are we landing straight in Cordonia?”

He shook his head.  “No stopovers, that’s not how private jets work, love.  The flight should take about eight hours tops,” he explained.  “We’ll be arriving in Cordonia at around 7:30 in the morning.”

“Wow, that early?” Riley asked.  

“The time difference will take a bit getting used to, especially since you’ve lived in New York your whole life,” he explained.  “The early arrival will be beneficial to us, I’m sure.  I doubt the press will have caught wind that we’re arriving that early.  It might give us enough time to get you to the palace without the mad rush of press on our tails,” he reasoned.

“The press?” She asked, her eyes widening.

Just as Liam was about to explain further, the pilot came over the loudspeaker announcing that they would be preparing for takeoff.  Riley inhaled deeply as she felt the power and speed of the plane push forward as it readied itself for take off.  She was momentarily distracted from the idea of the press and what exactly he meant about them being on their tails.

When they reached a comfortable elevation, the captain came over the loudspeaker again.

“Your Majesties, thank you for joining us this afternoon.  We expect the flight to take roughly eight hours, and we are expecting clear skies and smooth travel.  Should you need anything, please let any one of our staff attendants know and they will be glad to assist you with whatever you may need,” the voice boomed.

“Was he talking to me, too?” She asked, her eyes widening once more.

“Well, yes, love.  You are the future Queen of Cordonia.  It is only right that he address you as such,” he explained.

Riley knew that marrying Liam automatically meant that she was royalty, too, but having someone actually refer to her as one was crazy.  

“Your Majesties, would you like a beverage?  Wine?  Or champagne perhaps?” Dolores, the attendant Liam had been talking to earlier asked.

“Love?” Liam asked.

“Um, maybe just some water?” She asked quietly.

“Of course, Your Majesty.  Prince Liam?”

“I’m fine, Dolores,” he smiled brightly at the older woman.  “Maybe when we have our meals I’ll have a bit of scotch,” he added.

“Of course, Your Majesty,” she acquiesced as she poured Riley a glass of water.

“This is surreal,” she murmured, mostly to herself.

“Love, this is what you have to look forward to each time you travel,” he laughed.  “With our busy schedules, it only seems right that we travel as comfortable as possible.  After all, we don’t know when we’ll have a spare moment to ourselves again,” he said knowingly.

She nodded nervously, her hands fiddling about in her lap.  That’s actually what was worrying her.  What was life going to be like now that they were heading out of their Las Vegas and New York bubbles?  

Liam leaned over, clasping his hands around hers and smiled.  “You’re fine, love,” he murmured encouragingly.  “Now that I have you held captive in an airplane . . . ” he trailed off, eyeing her a bit nervously.

“What?” She asked; worry once again coursed through her body.

“Are you ready to talk about what you’ve signed up for?” He shot her a nervous smile.  He looked as if he were waiting for her to jump ship . . . or in this case, plane . . . any second.

She eyed him suspiciously, taking a large gulp of her cold water.  “You act as if I just signed up to go to war or something,” she chuckled anxiously.  “I know you don’t want to scare me, Liam, but I think I can handle whatever they’re going to throw my way,” she said.  Think being the operative word.  She talked a good game and tried her best to calm the quaking nerves inside of her, but in truth, she was absolutely petrified.  She had no clue how to be a princess . . . let alone a queen when that time inevitably arrived.  How on earth was she going to manage it all while still getting to know her new husband?

“I don’t mean to sound so cryptic,” he explained apologetically.  “I suppose I just wanted to prepare you for what might happen when we arrive,” he said vaguely.

“Are you expecting a grand welcome?” She arched an eyebrow.

“Well, possibly,” he admitted.

Her eyebrow arched a bit higher.  “Oh,” she said nervously.

“To be quite honest, I’m not sure what to expect.”  He ran his hand nervously over the back of his neck, and looked at her bashfully.  “Our early arrival does buy us some time as I mentioned, but I’m honestly not too sure what the Cordonian people have been told.  I’m not sure if they’ve publically announced the end of my engagement to Olivia,” he said uncertainly.  “In fact, I’m not sure if they even announced that we’ve gotten married.”

“And if they have?” Riley asked.

“If they have, then you can expect the press to be hounding us until they get a printable story,” he sighed.  “It’s the nature of the press, love.  They have a hunger for a scandal . . . the more prominent the person, the more desirable the story,” he said glumly.

“And being the heir to the Cordonian throne, any story about you would be explosive,” Riley said, understanding where he was going with his explanation.  The press wouldn’t let the story rest until they had every single detail about the end of his engagement to Olivia and their subsequent marriage in Vegas.  They were in for one hell of a welcome if that were the case.  She shook her head hesitantly.  The idea of being hounded by the press wasn’t something she was particularly looking forward to.  She had never paid attention to those sordid, trashy tabloids back home.  She had always thought that it was grossly negligent to publish half-facts and over-exaggerations.  This was the conversation that she had been worried about.  Up to this point, everything had been a vague and distant idea that she had formulated inside of her head, but as Cordonia loomed closer and closer in front of them, at some point they’d have to discuss the elephant in the room, and apparently, Liam had decided that “some point” was right then and there.

“I wish I could say that this will be easy, love . . . but it won’t.  I wish I could take the burden of the scrutiny of the press and the people and my family away so that you would never have to endure a single unpleasant moment.  But having lived this life in the limelight for as long as I have . . . I know that many will have . . . reservations,” he explained hesitantly.

“Reservations?” She asked, slightly confused.

“They may publish some untrue things about you . . . they may suspect we got pregnant out of wedlock, hence the quickie marriage . . . they may even publish some nasty, untrue remarks about your friends and family . . .” he trailed off.

She winced a little.  She had never really had a thick skin growing up.  She had always been sensitive, and she didn’t like to be teased or taunted.  The idea of having a whole nation scrutinize her every move, made her physically ill.  The idea of having someone critique how she acted, what she wore, who she spent time with . . . it all felt too much.  But to have that extend to her family and friends?  She couldn’t imagine dealing with that on top of everything else.

Liam continued.  “Olivia was a well-liked Duchess, and although the marriage was arranged, I’d imagine that many may not take kindly to the broken engagement . . . and our subsequent union,” he reasoned.  

“Like Bertrand,” she arched a questioning eyebrow.

“Yes, like Bertrand.  Some of the people of Cordonia are traditionalists.  They may not be so welcoming to the fact that I have married someone not of the country.  Not of Europe for that matter,” he explained.  “But I have no doubt that once they get to know you . . . the you I fell in love with . . . all of their reservations will disappear,” he said optimistically.

“I hope so,” she said meekly.  “I know it’s going to be tough . . . I just don’t want people to hate me, you know?”

“They won’t hate you, love,” he chuckled.  “How would they hate the most amazing girl I’ve ever met?”

Riley sighed, leaning closer into him.  “You were engaged, Liam.  To a woman you have had a friendship with for most of your life.  Are you telling me that she’ll warmly open her arms and welcome me to the palace?”

Liam grimaced in reply.  “Well, obviously not.  Olivia will prove to be a difficulty.  Of that, I’m quite sure.”

“And your parents?”  Riley added.  “You got into quite the tiff with your father before we left.”

“As did you,” he reminded her.  “My father and stepmother will come around.  Once they realize that Cordonia’s future will not be in any jeopardy and that the monarchy will continue, they will warm to the idea of our marriage.  It will take time, love.”

She nodded.  She sucked in a long breath.  She needed to be strong.  As long as she had Liam by her side, she knew they’d be able to overcome whatever difficulties that were headed their way.

“We’re going to get through all of this together, Riley.  I will never forget how much you’re giving up for me . . . for us,” he said passionately.

She leaned in for a soft kiss.  Liam deepened the kiss before pulling himself away.  “I have such a hard time controlling myself around you,” he said breathily.

“Let me distract you.  Tell me about Cordonia.  Not about the press or the bad stuff we might encounter,” she shook her head.  “If I’m moving to a brand new country, I should know everything there is about it.  The internet wasn’t too helpful.  I guess it’s so small that not a lot of people actually know a whole lot about it,” she frowned.

He nodded.  “It is small, but I assure you it has a rich history.  A history that you and I are now a part of,” he smiled.  “I’ll happily answer any questions you’d like about Cordonia, but I think that the best way to get to know our beautiful country is to experience it first hand in person,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everything,” she agreed. After a brief moment, she asked another question. “So, can I get a job when we get there?  Or is that sort of not allowed.  I just don’t want people thinking I’m some sort of gold-digger.  Your friends already accused me of being a crown-chaser, and I don’t want people thinking that I don’t want to work . . . because I kind of do?  I mean, I don’t really know what I could do considering I have a degree in Biology   . . . and I’m a medical school drop out . . . but there has to be something right?” she rambled out

Liam stared at her as if she had three heads.  She supposed it was a silly question.  Did royalty work?  She tried to think back on the lives of various royal figures - did Princess Diana have a job? What about Princess Eugenie?  How about Duchess Kate?  Surely an independent woman such as Duchess Megan Markle kept a job?  She frowned, she was being ridiculous.  Of course they didn’t have jobs.  They were too busy jet setting alongside their husbands.  She frowned at the thought.  She had never seen herself as being a woman who relied on a man to do all of the hard work.  She hadn’t liked when Liam’s friends had thought of her as being a crown-chaser, and she certainly didn’t want the rest of the public thinking the same thing.  Shouldn’t she be able to prove that she’s way more than just some woman that Liam met in Las Vegas?  She wanted to contribute in someway . . . even if she didn’t know exactly how she could contribute.

“You don’t have to work, love.  I told you that.  You will want for nothing the moment you set foot inside the palace,” he assured her.

“That’s such a strange concept,” she frowned.  “Not working . . .I mean, I went to college, got my degree, held quite a few jobs over the years, and now I just . . . do nothing?” she pursed her lips.  “I don’t want people to think that I married you for anything other than love,” she said softly.

“Being Queen is a job in itself Riley,” he explained.  “You’ll be expected to plan social functions, attend political meetings, coordinate various social programs, meet with different international figures . . . although the compensation process might be quite different than what you’re used to, you will very much have a job in Cordonia,” He rationalized.  

She nodded, although she still had a hard time wrapping her head around the whole concept.  “So the whole social functions thing . . . is that like party planning?”

“Oh, love.  It is far more than just a party.  Why don’t I give you a brief history of Cordonia and some perspective on the monarchy and perhaps then you’ll understand a bit more about how important the social season is to the Cordonian people?”

She nodded eagerly, sitting up in her chair.  “I’d like that a lot actually.  I feel like I’m jumping out of a plane without a parachute when it comes to knowing anything about Cordonia.  I really don’t want my first impression with your family to be me clueless about the country I’m now a resident of,” she gave a nervous chuckle.

A few hours later, Liam had recounted a not-so-brief history of everything about Cordonia.  Riley had no idea how Liam was able to remember all of it.  She guessed having grown up there gave him an upper hand, but still.  He was able to recount every single monarch and every single duchy that.  He could even rattle off population stats that all sounded like a bunch of mumble jumble to her.

“Lords and Ladies . . . palaces  . . . waltzes . . . balls . . . court . . . my head is spinning, Liam,” she frowned.  She needed some aspirin, or maybe a stiff drink.  She hadn’t expected her Cordonia 101 class with Liam to be easy, but she had hoped that she’d be able to at least glean some information to help her survive her first few days there.  Instead, she felt like she had nothing but information overload.  She couldn’t tell you who anyone was or what city was what because all of the names and places started to merge with one another after a while.

“I know it’s a lot to take in, but you’re doing remarkably well,” he said encouragingly.  “Hopefully some of the notes you took will help,” he smiled.

Yes, she had taken notes, but she had no clue what was important and what wasn’t.  She hadn’t even known Cordonia even existed before meeting Liam.  Now, she suddenly needed to know everything there was to know about the tiny country.  How on earth was she going to remember everything?  

“Trust me, love.  In time, all of this information will become second nature,” Liam beamed at her.

She snorted.  She didn’t want to tell him that she was more of a math and sciences sort of girl as opposed to being a history buff.  She couldn’t imagine a time when all of these Cordonian factoids would become second nature.

“Here.  Let’s test some of your knowledge now.  I’ll give you an easy one,” he said excitedly.  “What is the capital of Cordonia?” Liam asked expectedly.

Riley licked her lips nervously.  Her eyes scanned the notes in front of her, but she could barely make out half of her short hand.  She paused, uncertainly.  “Valtoria,” she half-asked.

“Correct,” he smiled at her proudly as he rubbed his thumb back and forth over her hand.  “You don’t give yourself enough credit.  You’ll have Cordonian culture down in no time.”

She smiled tightly in response.  She hoped he was right.  She had been taking notes off and on during their discussion, but she didn’t really know how it would help her if she got ambushed by the press.  It’s not like she could pull out a set of flash cards when she was getting interviewed.  She didn’t think that’d earn her any brownie points with the Cordonian public.  

Liam continued to quiz her on questions during the last few hours of the flight, and Riley admittedly was starting to remember some of the major things that Liam had taught her, but she still felt that all of the information she had just gained were whirling inside of her head like a tornado.  She had never wanted to excel at something so much in her life.  She felt like she was back in school, trying to cram in as much information as possible.  She just hoped it stuck.

“What if I mess up?” She asked worriedly.  “It took me years to even learn all the capitols of the fifty states,” she frowned.  “And even then I still managed to goof up every now and then,” she said, her voice laced with a bit of panic.

“Riley, love, you’re a natural at this.  You may not be Cordonian by birth, but we will have you be a star pupil on Cordonian history in no time,” he said encouragingly.  “Like I said, you’re already doing so well.”

“I don’t know how I’ll remember all of this,” she said faintly.  “There’s a reason why I went to medical school.  Liberal arts wasn’t exactly my strong suit,” she joked.

“I’ll be there to guide you, and my friends, once they get to know you, will be more than happy to provide you with some help along the way.  I happen to know that Bertrand majored in history at our university,” he said.  “I’d be happy to talk to him about perhaps giving you some private lessons on Cordonian culture,” he offered.  “He’d actually be well-suited to help you adjust to court life.”

“Bertrand  . . . yeah, I don’t think he’ll be very much inclined to help me considering he wanted to have our marriage annulled,” she sighed.  “He also seemed to think that I would be the demise of Cordonia.”

“Well, yes, remember, Bertrand is a traditionalist.  His duty to country comes before all else.  But regardless, he’s still my friend, and as such, he’ll want me to be happy.  If I ask him to help you adjust to court life, he will do it.  Begrudgingly at first, but after he sees how well suited you are as my wife, he’ll come around.”

Riley sighed.  What an optimist.  As much as she wanted to believe that Bertrand would help her, she believed that he’d probably eagerly wait for the moment for her to fall flat on her face.  She was about to ask Liam a few more questions about Cordonia when she felt a slight rumble under her feet.  She felt the plane begin to descend, and looked at Liam a bit concerned.  “What was that?” She asked in alarm.

“We’re getting closer,” he explained as his eyes peered out the window.  “It looks like we’re descending a bit to prepare for landing,” he reasoned.  His eyes grew a bit brighter as he stared out the window.  “Well, Mrs. Rys . . . if you look out to your left you’ll catch your first glimpse of your new home,” Liam beamed proudly.

Riley leaned against the window, her eyes gazing out into the distance below her.  She could just make out the aerial view of the country.  A million thoughts ran through her mind.  They were here.  They were finally here.   Riley gazed out at the shimmering blue ocean below her.  Cordonia’s coastline was breathtaking.  The little information she found on Google did nothing to prepare her for the sheer beauty of the country below her.  

She turned to Liam in awe, and he greeted her gaze with a beaming smile.  All it took for her worries to wane was a single look at Liam.  She knew this move would be hard, and she knew that she would be faced with a lot of scrutiny, and although she still had reservations about what would be like as an outsider, she knew that as long as Liam stood by her side, she’d somehow manage to pull through all of this.  

“That’s our country,” he said, leaning over her, pressing a soft kiss on the temple of her forehead.

“Our?” She whispered, still a bit overwhelmed about the reality of finally being in Cordonia.  She turned to face him, his eyes fixed on her in admiration.

“Yes, love.  The moment you said yes . . . the moment you signed those papers . . . this became all of yours,” he said proudly.

First Walker Family Halloween

“Oh my goodness Emma, she is the cutest little princess baby I have ever seen in my entire life!!!” Hana squealed as she scooped up her eight-month-old goddaughter from her mother’s arms and bounced her on her hip.  She smoothed out the frilly purple gown over the Harper’s chubby little legs as her mother watched proudly.

“She’s not just any princess, Auntie Hana …” Emma cooed as she adjusted the angelic white wings of the baby’s costume, “she’s a fairy princess.  The loveliest fairy princess in all the land!”  She stroked the soft baby curls from Harper’s big blue eyes, eyes that mirrored her own, as her daughter shot her signature smirk at her mother.  That familiar smirk, slightly upturned at the corners and mischievous like she knew exactly what you were thinking, just like her father’s.  Speaking of which-

“Really, Walker?”  Drake trudged into the foyer to meet the ladies, donned head to toe in his regal attire.  He pulled at the collar of his royal blue embroidered waistcoat uncomfortably, then swung his arms back and forth trying to loosen the sleeves.  “This thing doesn’t fit as well as it used to … and I distinctly remember getting stabbed the last time I wore this.”

Emma gave her husband an approving look before placing a chaste kiss on his cheek.  “Come on, Drake … I also remember this getup being good luck for you that night.  Not only did you win the duel, it also brought you good luck later.”  She gave her husband a suggestive wink as his cheeks flushed at the distant memory.  She took the quick moment as he looked away to admire the man standing before her, Drake’s broad shoulders and chest filling out the snug-fitting jacket just right.  The way the white pants accented his round derrière and muscular thighs sent her mind into a momentary flurry of inappropriate thoughts … Ahem, she chided herself.  Not until after the baby is asleep.  “Besides, don’t do it for me … your daughter requested a handsome Prince Charming to escort her to her first Halloween party.”  

Drake’s face lit up as he noticed the smiling frilly purple fairy princess bouncing in Hana’s arms.  “Baby Girl!”  He reached his hands out towards her, catching his daughter with an ‘oof!’ as she leapt giddily into his arms.  “You are the most beautiful little princess Daddy has ever seen in his whole life!”  He examined her tulle-covered body and delicate wings delicately, his mouth spread in a wide smile before he pursed his lips to press them against her forehead.  His eyes lingered on her fondly when he spoke again.  “I may not have been the prince your mommy set out to find in Cordonia five years ago, but I hope I can be the best Prince Charming you could dream of.”  

Emma gave his shoulder a knowing squeeze and caught his eye reassuringly.  “You’ve been even better than I could have hoped for, Drake.  And don’t you ever forget that.”  She placed her smiling lips against his for a slow kiss, pulling away only to beam at the two loves of her life fondly.

Drake gave her a goofy grin as he swayed back and forth rocking Harper on his hip, finally taking a moment to study his wife.  “Wow … you look amazing, Em.”  His eyes widened as they trailed down the length of her velvet crimson gown to the floor and then back up again to settle on her curves accentuating the bodice.  “I think I like this dress even more this time …” his voice was low and hungry, his eyes flashing a glimpse of his desire.

Emma laughed as she looked down and slid her hands across the soft fabric of the garnet gown, which she hadn’t worn since her first ball in Valtoria as Duchess years ago.  “Yeah, well, I’m just impressed I could still fit this mom bod in it without it ripping.”  She twirled around once for her family, glancing up at them expectantly for their reaction.  “I never wanted to play queen, but I think this will do for one night, right?”  

“I think we make the perfect royal fairy family, Em … just for tonight.”  Drake reached his hand out to grab hers and pull her alongside him and Harper, wrapping his arms tightly around the two beautiful ladies in his world.

“Eee!  Picture time!” Hana squealed when she saw the sweet family moment unfold before her eyes.  “Get in tight and smile!” she ordered as she aimed the camera on her phone at them with a huge grin.  “One, two, threeeee … got it!”

Emma shuffled over to her best friend’s side and reviewed the resulting picture.  “Oh it’s perfect Hana!  Harper is even smiling!”  She gave her friend a warm side-hug. “Thank you!”

Hana nodded her acknowledgement before tucking her phone back in her clutch.  “Well, are you ready to party, guys?!?”  She grinned excitedly and glanced over to the open doors of the vibrating ballroom, draped in fake cobwebs and twinkle lights, upbeat pop music echoing down the foyer.

“Ready!” Emma exclaimed, reaching for Drake’s hand again to walk into the party with her family.  She gave his had a gentle squeeze, eliciting that signature smirk from him.  

As they started to walk towards the festivities, Emma felt a tug from Drake pull her back.  She glanced over her shoulder at him, cocking her brow curiously. “Yes, Prince Charming?”

He pulled her closer, craning his neck to bring his mouth near her ear and whispering in a husky voice.  “Just one request tonight, your majesty …” Emma’s breath caught in her throat at his commanding tone, waiting for his ask. “You don’t take this dress off until I tell you.”  He leaned his head back, observing her with dark eyes that could only mean one thing.

Emma emitted a low amused chuckle, relishing his heated stare.  “Only if you promise to do the same, your highness.”  Her eyes twinkled playfully under the lights as she slipped her hand from his and reached around to- smack!- give his ass a coquettish pat.  

She giggled as she slipped her hand back in his and stepped up to place a small kiss to his cheek, before leaning across him to place another on Harper’s chubby one.  The baby girl gave a knowing gurgle, as if she understood the flirtatious events that had just transpired before her.  Emma stood up tall and readied herself for their entrance, gripping Drake’s hand tightly.  “Alright ... let’s hit it, Walkers!”

Oh Maxwell!

@i-miss-trr, you’ve done such an amazing job at writing Maxwell. Maxwell is deep, but he doesn’t wear that on his sleeve. I smiled when he first came in and was like “oh shit, now what do I do? I never expected this to work ...” Lol

Maxwell is so good to let Drake just vent. He doesn’t try to argue with Drake’s poor logic about being the only one who can feel as Drake feels. He just says, you’re not alone and then breaks the tension with a funny image of Liam trying to sneak out of the palace. (Side note for Liam stans: thank God Liam gets better at sneaking out, right?!?)

You know you’ve gotten through to Drake if he hugs you!

Summary: Maxwell teaches Drake an important lesson and helps him when he’s struggling.

Their house never felt so suffocating and lonely before as it did now while Drake made his way down the stairs in a T-shirt soaked with his sister’s tears. He had held Savannah for the past two hours as she cried her eyes out and it was the longest two hours of Drake’s life. Too emotionally drained, Drake fell onto the couch in the living room as his sister’s crying rang in his ears. She kept asking him the questions he had been avoiding since that woman left them both four months ago. How could he tell his baby sister that he himself was struggling to come to terms with their new reality? For the first time, her big brother who always promised to protect her, couldn’t do anything to dull the ache because he himself was too broken. He had never felt so useless before. Instead all he did was hold her tight until she cried herself to sleep. Hours later, her words still haunted him, “First Dad left us and now Mom. Why does everybody leave?”

Knowing he wasn’t going to be able to sleep tonight, Drake decided to light the fireplace to keep busy. At least he was still useful enough to keep Savannah and the house warm on this chilly night, he thought ruefully. No sooner had he finished lighting the fire, than he heard their grandfather’s clock strike midnight. That was the last straw! He knew he couldn’t run from his demons anymore. Each strike of the clock filled him with dred. To worsen his state, he couldn’t stop his mind from wandering back to that cursed day, exactly one year ago, when everything changed. The day that destroyed his happy family and pushed his Mom into depression. The day responsible for all of Savannah’s tears. The day that led to him and Sav being all alone today. His chest felt heavy as images of his Dad lying in an open casket flashed before his eyes.

He was too deep in his thoughts when a sudden knock on the main door brought him back to reality. Swallowing hard, he opens the door to send that person away and sees Maxwell on the other end. He smiles politely at Drake but it only enrages him more.

“Go away Maxwell!” Drake tries to slam the door but Maxwell leans against it, using his body to keep it open.

“No, Drake. Listen to me….”

“I know why you’re here Maxwell,” Drake barks in fury but all Maxwell can hear are the cracks in his friend’s voice.

“I promise it’s not that,” Maxwell says with utmost sincerity.

“I don’t believe you.”

“I promise I won’t even mention it.” He crosses his heart trying to convince Drake to stop pushing him out.

“I even brought beers!” He raises the two bottles as a bribe. Maxwell smiles nervously hoping him stealing these bottles from House Beaumont’s collection was worth it. Drake contemplates whether to let him in until Maxwell stubbornly declares he isn’t going to leave until he comes inside. Drake sighs heavily knowing how stubborn his idiot friend can be.

Reluctantly, Drake opens the door a crack and Maxwell scurried inside before he changes his mind. Shooting him daggers, Drake sits beside Maxwell and resumes poking and probbing the fireplace. Maxwell eyes him cautiously not knowing what to do next. He had not thought this through. Frankly, he was surprised Drake let him in in the first place.

Drake could see Maxwell fidgeting in his peripheral vision and it made ignoring him impossible. “If I hear the words ‘Happy Birthday’ from your mouth, I will punch you,” Drake warns him through gritted teeth.

“I never said a word!” Maxwell raises his arms in surrender. Drake eyes him suspiciously before going back to staring silently at the fire.

“Beer?” Maxwell shamelessly pushes the bottle in his face, stopping him from wallowing in self pity again.

Maxwell smiles victoriously but does a zipping his mouth action to further accentuate that he will not say anything else. True to his word, Maxwell doesn’t pester him again as they sit in silence drinking their beers. Surpringly, Drake noted, this silence was a lot different than the silence thay enveloped him before Maxwell came. Maybe it was the beer or maybe it was Maxwell’s presence but somehow this silence was not as stifling and Drake felt a lot calmer than before. For the first time, Drake was grateful for Maxwell’s company until his giggling ruined it. It was like sitting next to a 12 year old girl!

“What?”

“This is our first beer together buddy!” He declared with a proud grin.

Drake rolled his eyes but couldn’t help asking, “Is this your first beer Max?”

The smile on Maxwell’s face faded as he replied ashamedly, “No. I tried a glass when I was eleven.”

Drake raised an eyebrow as Maxwell averted his eyes and continued, “After Mum and Dad died, Bertrand used to finish at least three of Dad’s bottles every night. He said it helped him forget so one night, after he had passed out, I tried one glass to help me forget the pain too. It only worsened everything when we both got caught by my Uncle.”

Drake stared at him wide-eyed for a little too long. He could hardly believe the underlying hurt he just witnessed in his always happy-go-lucky friend’s voice. “Beer doesn’t work for me anymore. I need something stronger,” he confessed with a heavy sigh. Maxwell simply nodded too ashamed to speak yet.

Finishing his beer for strength, Drake decided to address the elephant in the room once and for all. “Max, why are you really here tonight?” His sombre tone killed the joke Max was going to use to try to deflect the mood. He realised there was no other way to address this but with blatant honesty.

“I’m here to make sure you are not alone bud; TODAY of all days.”

“I’m fi…”

“No you’re not fine Drake!” Maxwell cut him off curtly. “I know how you’re feeling right now. I’ve been through the same thing Drake.” Maxwell pats his should comfortingly.

“No you don’t!” Drake pushed his hand away. “You don’t know how I feel! Because we have not “been through the exact same thing”! So don’t act like you have!“ Drake gets up and shouts but not too loud so as to wake Savannah. Maxwell’s blatant audacity infuriated him. “Your role model and hero didn’t die on your birthday. You didn’t have to see your Mother breakdown and isolate herself from everybody. Your Mother didn’t just up and leave you all alone! And you certainly didn’t have to hear your baby sister cry herself to sleep EVERY DAMN NIGHT!!” Maxwell tries to calm him but in vain. “So don’t you dare tell me you know how I feel because you don’t!” Drake shoves him. “NOBODY KNOWS HOW I FEEL RIGHT NOW!” Drake turns and throws the empty beer bottle against the wall in anger. Then he clutches his head in his hands and slumps to the floor. Watching Drake shake with sobs stuns Maxwell. He had never seen him cry before. Unsure of what to do, he simply does th thing he wished somebody had done for him; Be there for his friend.

“That’s it. Let it all out,” he crouches down and encourages him sweetly. “Yell at me all you want. I won’t mind,” he pats his back comfortingly, “Just don’t bottle it up inside you. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!” He tells him sharply. “You have Liam, Leo, Bastien, Savannah… And me whether you like it or not! You are in a far better position than I was. When I lost my parents, I had nobody. I used to talk to everybody in court and proudly think I have so many friends. But when I needed somebody no one was there; not even Bertrand,” he chuckles dryly. “I was so lonely,” Maxwell whispers so lowly that Drake almost didn’t hear the last part.

“But you don’t have to be lonely Drake,” he points at him accusingly, “You have friends who actually care for you and are worried about you! Even Liam would’ve been here tonight but we both know how terrible the Prince is at escaping the Palace alone. Remember the time the guard caught him dangling from his window when his boot fell on the guard below? He needs a lot of practice.” Maxwell chuckles at the memory and despite everything, a small smile ghosts over Drake’s face too. “See? You have real friends dumbo! Don’t cut us out Drake.” The last sentence sounded almost like a request and Drake felt extremely guilty for his earlier outburst. Impulsively, he hugs his dear friend tight. Maxwell simply holds him as he cries into his shoulder. All the emotions he had buried for the last one year come crashing out and rolled down his face in the form of tears. That was the last time Drake cried because he was lonely.

My obsession with Open Heart continued and I’m not even sorry about it.

Hello loves!

 Another week or so has gone by since my last review post.  Okay, more like 3 weeks.  Dang, where does the time go?  

 Truly, if you’re reading this, I don’t deserve you.  But I can only thank all of you who are reading this, all of you who chat with me, who put up with my requests for more work, who post your amazing art and then are like “why the f didn’t she read it ASAP after she whined for me to post it yesterday?!?”, who understand that I want to use .gifs but I just don’t have the patience to find them, who accept me for who I am, who share their love of music with me, and those of you who don’t talk to me at all but who read what I write. Thank you!

 I found organizing by book was efficient – so I’m going to go that route again.  I’m also linking to masterlists whenever I can – and especially if I binged a bunch of a series.

 I’m fairly sure I read an unhealthy amount of fiction again … anyone want to take a guess at how many?

Honestly, I could go on and on about how fantastic this mini-series is.  The author has such a command of the craft. The storyline is fuckin’ beautiful.  I cried. I laughed.  I cheered when things went well.  It’s a six part series.  I read it from start to finish because I couldn’t put it down.

Honestly, in game of choices AME is not my fav.  However, what @lizeboredom has done with this series is amazing!  In this series, our MC has a lot of character, a very difficult past, and an even more difficult love for a villain.  Who is playing who?  Can love shine through when everyone’s intent is to win a game?  I honestly don’t know, but I cannot wait to find out.  Oh, and don’t worry, there’s like a virus or something in @lizeboredom’s computer, which is why Minah’s name keeps coming out Myrah. The virus isn’t catching though.

Megs:  Hello everyone!  Welcome to another episode of “The MFackenthal Show!”  Many many thanks to everyone who tuned in for the last episode.  The response to the return of the show has been truly fantastic and humbling.  It’s wonderful to have so many of you in our audience today!  

Please give your warmest welcome to tonight’s special guest @ownworldresident!

Alex:  Hey! *comes in waving*  Great to be here, thanks for inviting me Megs I'm honoured! *gives bear hug* I'm a big fan of hugs. *collapses dramatically into comfortable looking teal lounge chair*

Megs:  *Laughs* Well, make yourself comfortable, my friend. 

Alex:  Oh, you know I will!

Megs: Yes, yes I do.  So I hear that you’re working on a book!  Should I start calling you AJ?

Alex:  Okay so ... as readers of Something Unexpected will know my name is Alex. My pen name, recently decided, is A. J. Brooks. *grins like an idiot* I give you permission to call me Alex.

Megs:  Okay ... AJ ... so tell me, when did you join this crazy place we call the tumblr choices fandom?

Alex: I guess I could say I joined in about November? I started playing choices in August, because what better time to start than in the final semester of your bachelor's degree? I posted my first fic on Choices Archive which was unbelievably shit (the fic not the site!). I read A Royal Mate by @hopefulmoonobject aka Nesha and was inspired to write “You, The Lion” around chapter…. 6? I stalked Nesha to Tumblr, which I've never used before, and set up @ownworldresident, thus began the end of my social life. Courtesy of a design degree it was already pretty rocky.

Megs:  Who needs a social life when we have choices, tumblr, and fanfic, right?

Alex: Right! We all need AUs to carry us through to the next chapter.

Megs: Speaking of the next chapter ... have you read all of the choices books?

Alex: Hehe… *grins sheepishly* I have not. I have, however, played TRR enough times to have played every book twice over.

Megs:  Yeah, I think we’ve all done that!  Okay, so who do you stan in TRR?

Alex: *in a monotone* Oh, gosh, what a difficult question. Gosh Meg that's so hard to answer… *feigns thoughtfulness, then grins and speaks normally* if Liam isn't gripping the headboard with one hand to steady himself… What's the point of playing?

Megs: I’ll answer that with one word:  Drake.

Alex:  *rolls her eyes* And that’s my cue to leave the stage. *Alex starts to get out of her chair*

*Megs grabs her arms to keep her in the chair.*

Megs:  Nooooo!  Stay!  Tell us what you do when you’re not writing fics!  Geeze!

Alex: Haha, you know I’d never leave you, beautiful!  Okay, what do I do when I’m not writing fics ... I write my novel, reblog writing advice, play choices, chat to (and spam with excerpts) Nesha, Alicia, Stef, Urica, Pam, and you of course, also I have friends here but I'm not sure if they know I'm alive … I mean, I think I went out last month. This is specifically for Alicia - HE WILL REMAIN FRIENDZONED.

Megs:  Awh, maybe you need to give this guy a chance?

Alex: Oh gosh, not you too!  Stop!  FRIENDZONED!

Megs:  I’m just saying, sometimes the friend can be the *eyebrows raise twice* “friend.”

Alex: So, I’m from Australia! I was born in Perth (Western Australia), grew up in country WA, moved over to Melbourne to get a big fancy degree from a big fancy Uni, which i did *lifts fists in victory* and I love it here! Lots of ... um ... hot guys. But I spend all my time as a resident of my own world so don't actually see them much. I think I will need to go to Europe to find myself a Rhys.

Megs: nice deflection ... and we’re back to Liam.  Hahah!  Okay, okay, so as anyone who follows you on tumblr knows, you love to talk about writing.  Tell us about your writing process.

Alex: What's a ‘process? *frowns quizzically* I haven't really trained myself enough to have one. I have a muse, she is incredible, if I'm stuck I give her a problem and go and do other things and my tigress works on it in the background. For example the last big thing I wanted was a new story to write, so about a week later I was washing dishes or something and she went LIAM BANGS AN ASSASSIN and that's how The Mark came about. In case you were wondering or something. i also really like walking through forests, that really puts me in touch with my tigress. It's how You The Lion started. *shrugs* otherwise it's just when I feel like it. If I'm angsty I write Rayne. If I'm frustrated (at myself) I write Anna. If I'm excited I write SU with Nesha. If I'm focused I write my novel. *smirks* that's it! *chuckles*

Actually, Megs, are you up for an acting challenge?

Megs:  Don’t you know it!  Did you bring a script with you?

Alex:  Oh, just a snippet of my favourite passage of all I have ever written.  It’s Liam and Lisa's argument.  It’s love and trust and loss and honesty and pain, it’s really a pity they were too badly injured for angry sex. *winks*

Megs:  I call reading Lisa’s lines!

Alex: Wha?  Oh, okay, I’ll play Liam ...

*both ladies stand up in the middle of the stage and read overly dramatically*

Liam/Alex: “I thought you loved me Lisa…”

Lisa/Megs:  “Of course I love you!”

Liam/Alex: “Then that should be enough to just my judgement…”

Lisa/Megs:  “YES! It should! It should be enough to trust and yet you don’t! You don’t trust me, you’re blinded by him and how DARE you use your rank over me! I don’t give a shit what your reasoning was Liam that is not okay.”

Liam/Alex “It was to -”

Lisa/Megs: “Keep me safe! Guess what! I can defend myself, as if you didn’t know that. I told you, you should have believed me, because you said you loved and trusted me EVEN THOUGH YOU DON’T and that should be enough!”

Alex:  And end scene!

*The ladies take a bow*

I don't know if it makes sense without context and its only the dialogue but I love it!  You were a decent Lisa.  Though I’m not sure Lisa would have been quite so dramatic about it.

Megs:  You weren’t a half-bad Liam.  But i know he would have been more dramatic than you were being!  *wink*

*Both Alex and Megs starts to return to their seats - but Alex gets to Meg’s chair first.  Megs slowly goes to sit in the comfy teal green chair and gives Alex the side eye.*

Alex:  So Megs ... when and why did you decide to review and interview fanfic writers?

Megs:  What is it with my guests thinking they get to take over asking the questions?!  *Megs shakes her head in disbelief*  Hmm ... the first spotlight post/MFackenthal show was just over a year ago on May 5, 2018.  At that time, I wasn’t writing any fanfiction, but I wanted to give back to the community.  I don’t think I had even done a review post yet.  By that time I had written some posts to wish authors happy birthday or to highlight someone’s work that I was in love with ... but I had 100 followers and I wanted to celebrate that.  @maxattack-powell, @tmarie82, @lizeboredom, and a few others who aren’t here any more helped me come up with a way to spotlight the fanfic authors and I wrote a pilot episode of the Mfackenthal Show.  Ellen saw it, gave me this show, and the rest is history as they say.

Alex:  I love that you wanted to give back!  One last question ... *leans elbow on side of chair and rests chin on fingers to look at you, narrowing gaze* ... tell us one of your most fantastical Drake related dreams. Maybe you or someone can turn it into a one shot?

Megs:  Alex!  Oh my gosh!  Hahaha!  Hmmm ... okay ... well, the story would be an AU.  The MC, Megs - cause all the MCs are named Megs in my stories, is a Princess of a small country, but she’s gone into hiding because someone is after her and her family.  She goes to Cordonia and asks to help manage Liam’s social season.  She needs to stay behind the scenes so she can’t be in it.  She convinces Bastien, Liam, and Drake that she would be a good counselor/therapist for Liam - help him make decisions about who would be the best partner for him.  Of course, both Liam and Drake end up falling in love with Megs.  As always, Drake believes himself to be unworthy because he knows that Megs is a princess.  Megs is always very clear that she’s not in love with Liam and is in love with Drake.  All the forces keep Megs and Drake apart.  Drake eventually helps Megs get back to her country and Megs gets injured in a battle when she tries but fails to save her father from being murdered.  This means that Megs has to take the throne.  Drake tries to live without her, heading back to Cordonia.  Drake and Megs finally get together after her country and Cordonia enter trade negotiations and Liam sends Drake to make those negotiations. 

Alex:  *sighs* Megs, that’s beautiful.

Megs:  Thanks!  Probably not a one-shot though.

Alex: Probably not.  Alright - well, your producers are telling me that it’s almost time to wrap up the show.  So, I think it’s time for you and your audience to learn to do the shuffle!  So stand up.

*stands and looks at you expectantly until you do the same*

okay now drink this …

Megs:  uh ...

Alex:  Just drink it!  It's not poison *smirks as you drink and splutter then shrugs at your horrified expression and drinks the other half* don't worry it's just tequila. Okay follow me, stand there… music please… let's do this.

*proceeds to teach and dance and drink more and kiss the cameraman and fall over then get up and keep dancing like nothing happened*

--- several minutes later, both collapsed and grinning and slightly drunk ---

Please don't analyze me. I have a lot of problems. Urk.

Megs:  We’ll save the analysis for after the show! (hiccups) Alright folks (hic!)  I guess it’s time to go! 

Alex: *drunkenly* Omgosh I LOVE this fandom. Everyone is so friendly and (predominantly) positive *side eyes you* and creative and supportive and talented! I love you all. Thank you for being you, and if you interact with me, my fics, or anything I post, I consider myself honoured thank you!! To the fandom I will say keep being who you are. Every single one of you is incredible *shrugs excitedly, grinning*.

Drake is one lucky man ...

Queens by Train continues…

“Kate please put on some clothes, this is very distracting.” Drake’s pulse starts to hammer in his chest. Dammit they didn’t have much time, and watching her walking around like that made him so incredibly hard.

“Oh does my nakedness make you uncomfortable?” Kate grins slyly as she toys with the lacy waistband of her panties as if they really needed to be adjusted.

“In the worst way.” Drake squirms slightly on the bed.

“Sorry. I won’t be too long, promise.” Kate sways her hips to the music as she stands in front of her closet, searching for something.

Drake falls back onto the bed, closes his eyes. “Just hurry it up ok?”

Trying to distract himself from the image of Kate in her underwear that was seared on his eyeballs, he searches his mind for something, anything else to make the urge to fuck her senseless go away.

Baseball! Think of baseball. Thoroughly masculine, not a naked woman in sight baseball. Bats, gloves, balls.. No, not balls. Suddenly his own balls were starting to itch. Fuck, this mental imagery was not working.

Kate grins as she pulls a t-shirt and pair of jeans out of a drawer. She brings them over and flops them onto her suitcase. Drake jumps, his eyes snapping open to look at her. She pulls on her shirt, and then steps into her jeans, shimmies them up over her hips and buttons them.

“Oh thank God,” He says.

He’s still very uncomfortable though. Kate zippers up her suitcase, and walks around to the foot of the bed.

Drake is still lying back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling.

“Close your eyes Drake, let me help you.”

Kate slides her hands up his thighs, and then reaches for his belt buckle. When she had touched him he nearly wet himself with surprise.

“Kaaate, what are you doing?” He says grabbing handfuls of bedspread.

“Shhh, just stay still. And close your eyes.”

Kate pulls his belt free of the buckle, unbuttoning and unzipping his jeans. Drake tries valiantly to stay still but can’t, he squirms under her. He lifts up his hips as she pulls down his jeans, pushing them down to puddle at his ankles.

“We don’t have time for th -..”

Drake’s words catch in his throat as he feels her hands tugging at the waistband of his underwear. She frees him, pushing his boxers down to join his jeans.

“Kate…”

“Shhh, let me handle this. Try to relax.” RELAX?! Who was she kidding? Drake thought.

Drake opens his mouth to protest, then closes it again as he feels her mouth on him. He throws back his head and groans. “My God Kate…..are you s..sure about this. ”

She comes up for air, “Trust me, I know what I’m doing.”

Drake folds his arms behind his head, closes his eyes, giving into the intense pleasure of her mouth and tongue.

After a minute or two, he gasps, his knees starting to shake. “Uh K..Kate, are you ready for this, I can’t hold it back anymore.”

He hears her whisper, “Ok let yourself go.”

Drake feels her mouth pull him in again, and he grabs at the pillows above his head. With a groan he blasts cum into her mouth. He can hear her whimper of surprise, feel her lips closing tightly around him. As she sucks back his hot salty offering, Drake shudders, sweat breaking out all over his body.

Kate sits back on her heels, covering her mouth, struggling to swallow. Damn he was a mouthful in more ways than one. Her cheeks and jaw ached, but at least it was over.

Drake sits up on his elbows, looking at her with a newfound respect, an apologetic look on his face. “You didn’t have to do that.”

Kate gets up, grabbing the box of tissues from her dresser. She pulls out a couple, wipes her face, tosses him the box. “I wanted to, now shut up.”

He wipes himself, and then sits up to put his pants back on. Drake looks over at the alarm clock, it’s 12:15. “Game starts soon.”

Kate leaves the bedroom, goes down to the bathroom, rinsing out her mouth and washing her face. After brushing her teeth, she takes the time to gather some toiletries to put in her suitcase.

In the end they didn’t miss the game, just the first inning.

Welcome back!!!  I was afraid that after my last asks that you would never come back unless I specifically asked for you! 

You ask such a difficult question because I’m awful at ranking things.  I can tell you things I like ... but as I often quote myself saying - I was like 34 before I decided on a favorite color. 

But I love that you want to expand your horizons ... I just have no idea who you’re currently reading, so I have no idea how to help you there ...

Can you tell I’m kinda stalling?

Okay, how to organize ... I’m going to do one author per choices book and I’m going to go with whomever crosses my mind first ... if you don’t read for these books, I’m sorry in advance ;)

AME: @lizeboredom.  She has a story going about MC (Minah ... who she mistakenly calls Myrah) and Vince and she has made me see Vince in a whole other light.

ACOR: @wughhumans. Her Anthony and MC are on fire and it’s not just that it’s “bad” ... they’re on fire even when they’re being obnoxiously domesticated.

OH: @llovewrites. Ethan Ramsey X MC and her Ethan is just fucking perfect.

Hello loves!  If you’re still following me, may I just say thank you for your patience.  I know it has been too long since I have created one of my review posts.  I can only apologize.  I love you all, but I needed a break.  So I was gone for a while.  When I came back – the fandom had changed.  Mostly, people just changed their names, actually.  But it took me a while to find everyone.  And, of course, new people had joined the fandom – or at least I was introduced to people – so they’re new to me.  

I’m going to organize this by book instead of by love interest because some authors are keeping the pairings a secret and I don’t want to ruin their surprise.

I don’t think I’m back up to reading 80 fics a week … but I do think I’ve read quite a few (too many?) fics this week.  Let’s find out how many, shall we?

A few quick reminders:

Learning to Love Again (https://likethetailofacomet.tumblr.com/post/178641518985/master-list) by @likethetailofacomet  If you follow me then you know that I binged this whole series this week.  That’s right – all 46 chapters of it!  This series GAVE ME LIFE!  It’s a beautiful telling of the story of Drake, Liam, and Claire (MC) where Liam is immediately supportive of Drake and Claire – like supportive before Drake can even really make a move. The characters in this story are pure, beautiful, supportive, strong, and loving.  I have fallen in love with Liam and with Bastien in this story – and I know with certainty that this wasn’t the author’s intention – but I also know she fully supports falling in love with these characters.  Of course, if you’re a Drake fan (as I am) this series will make you happy also.  It’s not a love triangle and yet I still felt so much of that drama that I love in these stories. This series is drama at it’s BEST.  The drama doesn’t come from misunderstandings but from the plot. It’s not over – but it will be soon.  So catch up!

Brave For You (series) (https://likethetailofacomet.tumblr.com/post/178641518985/master-list) by @likethetailofacomet As I understand it, this was written and helped inspire Learning to Love Again because fans demanded a story where Drake lives.  In this trilogy, Drake does not.  Riley has to learn to live without him.

But will they fall in love for real?  This series has a great story crossover, it delves into some difficult situations around bullying, and we’ve just learned that Beckett also has a “real girlfriend.”  I need more @darley1101!!!!  Quit writing the rest and give me more of this ;)

Despite the author being drunk when she wrote this fic and named her character the wrong name – this is a hot story about a much tougher Minah (Myrah) who is flirting with danger when she flirts with Vince.

Only the First of Many (https://walkerismychoice.tumblr.com/post/182799720138/only-the-first-of-many-ernest-sinclaire-x-mc) by @walkerismychoice  As the author says – this is a retelling of the diamond scene from book 2 chapter 9 but from Ernest’s POV.  This is a sweet, hot, tender, and a beautiful rendition.  If you didn’t buy that chapter – this is a great way to read it. If you did – this is an even better way to relive it.

Oh shit!  I read 89 fics this week!  Granted 46 of them were one series, but I still!  I commented and reblogged 89 fics.  I guess I have to say – I’m back baby!

But seriously – I probably will not be able to maintain this pace.  I have to actually read a book next week.  LOL

a/n: In the past few weeks, I went through a lot of my writing and deleted some from my docs or removed them from the master list. some of my writing was messy and unplanned but I took my time with this story and I think I will do much better with this than my previous work. I’ve done a lot of research on this topic and want to write her character without too many flaws. I know I can’t make it perfect but I want to make it worth reading! I hope you all enjoy this. Indeed there are writers who write for other books.  In fact, I would argue that ROD seems like it’s getting a lot of attention lately because some in the fandom just did an appreciation week. 

Luckily for you - a Veil of Secrets appreciation week is coming up!  It’s being hosted by @lilyofchoices and a handful of others.  Check out this post to learn more.

Check out this series masterlist by @mrsnazariowrites to find a very creative and engaging PM series.  It’s in progress though ... which I only say to warn you that it may simply leave you wanting more.

Lastly, check out the authors of the @choicecrossover because I know they are including some if not all of those books in their future work and that probably means the collaborators have already written for those pairings or those books at least.

There are so many authors in this fandom, so I am sure that I am missing a key name or 200 ... but this should get you started and keep you reading for at least a little while :)
