I have been thinking about some bonding time between Mario and Toadsworth (since Toadsworth would probably be Mario's father in law at some point xD). I like to hc that after the events of the galaxy event, Mario becomes quite interested in astronomy. Toadsworth acutally knows a lot about it and catches on on Mario's interest. So they would sit together, star gaze together and Toadsworth would teach Mario the things he knows.

(I don't know if this makes sense but I just wanted some bonding time with those two :) )

OMG YES MARIO AND TOADSWORTH BONDING FTW!!! 🤩👌Astronomy is such a good idea for a common interest, I could very well see them spending time together in the castle's observatory and conversing privately at night when all the other citizens (and the princess) would be asleep; talking about life, duty, future aspirations and family. 🌌 The same way Luigi and Peach would primarily bond over their immense affection for Mario, Toadsworth and Mario would bond over their devoted love for Peach, and the two would thus develop a very fond relationship. 💖

There was this fun scene I wanted to draw a while back, in which Mario meets Toadsworth for the first time. The man would be terrified at the thought of being introduced to the princess' trusted steward and very wise mentor (and beloved father figure); wanting to make a good first impression above all else and somehow let him know that he means absolutely no harm whatsoever to Her Highness Peach Toadstool.

After a formal interview upon which the old toad would take notice of Mario's fumbling but unequivocal benignity - as well as obvious nervousness -, he would give him a friendly smile and say: "My boy, I have no doubt that someone who knows how to maintain such a sumptuous mustache is as judicious as they are deft, and will do most finely around the castle. What do you say?"

That would be very effective in breaking the ice. Delighted by the offer, Mario would promptly return the compliment, and the exchange would rapidly turn quite jovial. Slightly worried by the prolonged duration of the meeting, Peach would enter Toadsworth's office only to find him engrossed in a lively conversation with her new friend about facial hair, and she would quietly leave again without being seen; very pleased to see them getting along so well. 🤭

The thought of them instantly taking a liking to each other is one that I really like, and I'd love to eventually make another piece where they're seen directly interacting with one another. ^_^

Vampire Therapist FTW

I don't tend to buy games/visual novels when they're first released and this week was an expensive one for me, but I grabbed this little gem as a consolation prize. I've missed visual novels and I was instantly interested in its premise. I mean, "Vampire Therapist" says so much so quickly!

Now, I haven't finished it yet, but I have had a delightful time with it thus far. The main character, Sam Walls the vampire cowboy, is an adorable cinnamon roll who wants to help other vampires thrive. His new vampire mentor, Andromachos, is as patient and civilized as you could hope an ancient vampire could be. Each of the patients is unique, and some of them are historic figures.

The view on vampires, their psychology, and their issues is interesting. One thing I appreciate is that the game goes out of its way to show how philosophies, religious beliefs, and other modes of thought influence their worldviews, even many years after those modes of thoughts dwindled in popularity. It reinforces how they are products of older times.

I've become partial to the term "bloodfather/mother/parent" for those who turn others into vampires; I automatically liked it better than V:tM's "sire."

You learn various cognitive distortions and identify them in the statements your patients make; this is the heart of the game experience. I've found myself hearing Sam in my head, identifying them IRL since I started playing, which has added an extra layer of amusement.

I haven't done multiple playthroughs yet so I haven't seen if your choices make much of a difference. There have been some moments when it's clear that it doesn't matter what you choose - you'll either have to go through all the options or you'll go through until you choose the right one. Either way, there doesn't seem to be much difference in how others respond. After a certain point in the patient-cowboy therapist exchange, you don't get many choices; Sam just proceeds to wrap up with his observations and advice.

This has been a little disappointing, since it may make replaying it less satisfying, but it's also reduced the need to save-scum for a persistent little perfectionist like me.

The art is beautiful and Western-style, which I prefer. The entire thing is voiced by good voice actors in a variety of accents which I have had no trouble understanding; having so much voiced is a special treat!

The music is good, but one thing that might bother some of folks is that the music from the club runs rather continuously beneath most conversations. If you find it distracting, you may have to turn it off.

I hope to say more later, but I thought I should put in a good word now. $15 ain't a lot but can be a lot to an indie game company, and buzz can be important for something newly released. If this sounds like it's your bag, there's no harm in grabbing it. You might even learn some things that'll be of use to you.

And yes, Matt Mercer does voice a couple of characters. That wasn't a main draw for me, but I know it is for some folks.

How I feel about this character: I'm quite fond of her,actually

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Luke,angsty/toxic family relationships ftw!

My unpopular opinion about this character: If someone is going to be a mentor figure to CHB,it's her not Percy. While he's a good guy with an usually great moral compass,he's also often closed off. This isn't a flaw,it's just that Percy is a bit too aloof for the role. Whereas Annabeth was shown as a mostly friendly person(of course,there are exceptions,but that's mostly her being jealous of Rachel or feeling threatened by something),specially in HoO. She took Piper in,helped Leo out in Argo II,gave a (long and overly complicated) explanation to Frank about the Chinese Finger Traps while everyone else laughed at him. Besides,it would've been a great culmination to her arc with Luke.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I'm fine with Annabeth as she's,but I oftentimes think she's more of a daughter of Aphrodite who happens to have intellectual interests than a daughter of Athena. This is because most of her triumphs are related to her using emotions and/or relating to people.

Mp100 au - The whole basis for Reigen and Mob's mentor-mentee relationship is built on a lie that was good for the both of them. Mob needed to know a self-assured adult esper who understood that his powers can be dangerous and has thought about that constructively and productively, and Reigen needs a nephew-best-friend he can help teach and grow so he has a long-term social relation.

So it's a little difficult to think of who would fit the bill for Reigen - if I can figure that out, then I know who would be Mob.

Yusuke would be the one to leave the safe water bottle company and make his own office and lie about having ESP to a kid who needs guidance, I think. But would he break that character once he learned the kid DOES have powers? If he's an adult and assuming he grew up pretty okay (Reigen standards) then I imagine at most that he's having a moment of inner panic abt having lied abt this bc he thought the kid was fibbing. And then he looks at the kid being so hopeful and glad and he folds - he'll roll w it! The kid needs the lie right now.

Oh, Masaru could be a good choice? The very kid that Yusuke saves and dies for in canon! Another thought was Botan in a role-reversal au as well as mp100 au.

In that case I could see Yusuke as Mob and Shizuru and Botan having dual roles as Reigen (being the mentor: Shizuru, being the goofball w crazy charisma rolls: Botan)

Kuwabara siblings sharing the spot for Serizawa would be neat! They're very sensible in canon, both practice and encourage a normie life of studying and working despite their powers, so Serizawa's problem of finding it extremely difficult to control his powers due to his anxiety feel like a sufficient background for what would push them into a terrorist organisation.

Hina as Soichirou... She's been dead too often in my aus and concepts, Rui usually taking the spotlight, it's time for "oh no it's worse when they Lived". Epic divorce-woman ftw. Rui fulfills Shimazaki's powers of teleportation and knows where Yukina is at all times. She would really like Yukina to just stop trying to convince her mother not to be a terrorist anymore. For plot reasons she'll sometimes help Hina out in her plans if it doesn't negatively interfere w the twins' lives.

Hiei as Takenaka who is distressed abt his sister repeatedly running away to pursue their birth mother who at this point kinda scares him and he's not seen her in years. Also very isolated in being an ESP-kid and having no one else like him to talk to, upset to learn the Telepathy club is a lie. We don't see him for SO MANY episodes and when he returns as the twin brother of the There-are-so-many-things-wrong-with-this-child (Yukina).

Kurama might be part of Claw to help out his mother... Perhaps he is a Serizawa? (Speaking like these are actors for a theatre production) Koenma is the child in claw w the wooden dolls who cries when they get OP-broken.

I love Yusuke btw but I can't stand when a MC from one series is transferred as the MC of a different series for an au simply bc the character is the MC. It's just so automatic. I personally also like to use Mob for drawing studies when deciding how to draw Yukina's expressions and write her thoughts and actions, but it also grates on me to spend more than 10 minutes to just switch all the character roles for the personalities most similar (why not just go watch the original...). This is the hater in me! Sometimes I find her.

favorite thing about them: i love her relationship with her dad and while its very heartwarming and sweet how they looked out for each other and he encouraged her to follow her passions instead of doing what society expects her to be (a housewife basically). also how unhinged she can be. mech exploded things with her robots MULTIPLE times and i love her for it, even though she needs therapy with her terrible coping mechanism of trying to turn her robot into her dead dad replacement

least favorite thing about them: not that i don't like skins that are girly/cutesy but when it comes to tracy i don't think the amount that she has really fits her character (like her just around the corner skin as an ex.)? i wish she had more skins like puppeteer

favorite line: "It's difficult to get what people are thinking. In contrast, it's must easier to figure out a robot's engine." Tracy is a very relatable character

bROTP: the mentor/mentee or father/daughter relationship between puppeteer tracy and whiplash kevin, they're both great and the duo is one of the highlights of coa 3 for me. especially because tracy really misses having that kind of figure in her life in the main timeline :'')

also a VERY recent development but i love her and orpheus together. their characters have a lot of interesting similarities that not a lot of people talk about between them!

OTP: like i said in luca's, i really love her and him as a queerplatonic relationship. though i do rlly like emmatracy romantically too! luca obnoxiously eats popcorn whenever tracy has emma over for movie dates.

nOTP: don't really have one for her aside from the obvious "dont ship her with kids she's a whole ass adult". though considering how much i love family dynamic tracy and kevin it feels personally weird for me to think of them together romantically

unpopular opinion: while her character is tied to her childhood memories with her dad, i wish more people respected her maturity ESP because she's a grown adult. you'd be surpised how many times i have people be surprised when i tell them she's 21 considering how much the fandom draws her like a kid, same kind of issue with characters like emma and mike just bc theyre short

The Centuries Old Boyfriend

Let’s get right into it, shall we? 

I was recently reading this book that I was quite looking forward to when I first heard of its release. When I finally managed to borrow it (KU ftw) I started reading, got interested, and then DNFed when the love interest showed up. 

There are multiple different ways a love interest is introduced. Depending on the author, a love interest can be introduced as a character in their own right (these ones are awesome) or as the mc’s love interest. The second one but in urban fantasy has its very very distinct way of introducing the love interest. 

Y’know, the mc noticing how good-looking the guy is. How mysterious. How powerful. How attractive. (How incredibly annoying and smug, but that’s me, not the mc). And then trying to be cool and composed around the guy, and failing in painfully second-hand embarrassment inducing ways.

And the cherry on top is that our mc is a normal human and her love interest is very Not Human and Perfect and Has Lived For Centuries. 

Raise your hand if a book came to mind when I said that. 

Now, I’m kind of primed to dislike these love interests because a. I’m a repulsed ace b. I despise second-hand embarrassment and c. I value dignity. 

And I feel like I’ve finally hit my limit of tolerating the centuries old boyfriend trope. 

I think I’ve finally figured out why I dislike it so much, so let me explain in a good old-fashioned point by point list. 

First off, I feel severely put off by any romance where the two characters are not on completely equal grounds in terms of the power dynamic. If it’s an employer-employee, mentor and apprentice, or even if it’s two individuals where one holds the power in how their interactions go, I will stop reading because I feel so frustrated by these.

(I know it’s possible for there to be healthy relationships from these but what I’m talking about is generally and not about the exceptions, okay?)

Then there are the relationships were the characters are physically on equal grounds (rank, magic level, etc) but one character has the upper hand in the relationship just because of how smug and flirtatious he is while the other repeatedly gets flustered to the point of finding it difficult to talk. 

This is what the Centuries Old Boyfriend does. He’s Perfect, isn’t he? And our dear protagonist here is only human. 

That’s my second point. 

Most of the books I’ve read with this trope do a decent job of explaining why he’s so enamoured with this particular human, but the question of “He’s lived for so long and has been single all this time; why did he end up with her? What’s special about her?” has been left unanswered at times too. 

Surprising as it may sound, I don’t always despise the COB (unless he’s an insufferable flirt). Sometimes he’s actually decent. So, at times, I wonder if she really deserves to end up with him when he’s, to be quite honest, leagues above her in terms of... a lot, actually. He’s not human, he’s lived for incredibly long so he’s probably got really strong magic, and likely he has a high rank in his society, too.  Why end up with the protagonist, then? It seems kind of an unfair relationship. 

Thirdly, I don’t like this trope because it’s always the Centuries Old Boyfriend. It’s pretty much always a Him while She gets to be the pathetic human, and tropes like these which play at gender stereotypes in this way- let’s just say I’m tired of it. Understatement, but I’ll leave it there. 

(Side observation here, but books with the COB are almost always written by a female author, which I found interesting. Do females generally like the idea of a mysterious powerful mate? Or is it that male authors just don’t really care as much about romance? I don’t know, but it’s an interesting difference to note.) 

And Finally, I don’t like this trope because it always introduces the COB as a love interest first, character second, and that’s a whole other ramble that I shall leave for another day. 

What would I like to see instead of a COB? Love interests who have a balance of power between the two, who are characters first, who are just another friend of the protagonist before becoming something more. I want to see romances that are comfortable and progress naturally across time. I want to see romances that start as friendships. I want to see a romance were the guy gets just as (if not more) flustered than the girl.  Is that too much to ask for? I dunno. But I’m going to very determinedly hunt through books to find authors who write what I want to read (and myself write what I want to read) so it’s not like I’ve given up on books lol.

So, those were my thoughts on the COB and my opinions of him. It is a shortened version so that I could keep paragraphs concise and to the point, which means I might have left out important details and nuances, so if something about this bothers you then toss me an ask and I’ll answer.

For AUs... How about an AU where Keiji and Megumi both survive the First Trial? I'd like your take on that :)

BUT SERIOUSLY TY THIS IS SO INTERESTING!! i saw your post on this already and commented on it then (in the tags ofc JGVKDDJDJ), bUT that was the meta of yours that inspired me to think that, maybe, keiji wouldn't be the way he is without that particular first trial and its outcome..? so i'll be operating under that assumption for these scenarios, so as not to feed a fed horse! (as peta would say,)

this does seem like quite the task, considering that it would require both conceptualizing megumi when we have minimal information about her, and reconceptualizing keiji to the keiji before the death game, when we also have minimal information on how he thinks in general... (and his characterization in this is all based on a theory to begin with, so it's not the most steady foundation lol)

of course, their first trial would need to be something else for this au… to keep things simple, it'd be best if it was neutral– neither him saving or not saving megumi, to neither restore nor forsake his faith in himself. megumi saving him would probably leave some positive impression of her on him too, so a trial which includes none of those things would be mosy fitting. but the trial itself isn't what's interesting, so i won't go into it further djdksbdk.

assuming they don't have a trial together, they'd meet each other the first time with everyone else-- i'm sure megumi would recognize keiji after the initial shock of how different he looks. and even if keiji tried to distance himself from her, she'd mention she knows keiji right away. i do think she'd have quite a bit of logic in her, but not an unsympathetic amount! however, she has been shown to throw morality to the wind when protecting keiji in the past (though asunaro may have been involved in the coverup in ways we don't yet know), so i think she'd do something similar here. she'd say she knows him and possibly that he's a police officer to solidify his standings amongst the other participants, assuming that keiji doesn't lie for himself first.

speaking of what keiji would do… so, i'm reconceptualizing him as more solemn and maybe a bit less guarded? however, it's also important to keep some level of his chill with his stupid grin and avoidance, because that constitutes a large part of how he copes with his trauma. a keiji wrestling between solemn genuineness and avoidant nonchalance, protector and sacrificer, logic and emotion! a mid-way between the two extremes of before the shooting and during the normal death game. definitely more stoic, though… less smiley but not brooding either. i think a more stoic, perhaps more reserved personality pre-death game would make a lot of sense for keiji, considering that he has absolutely no friends.

BUT ANYWAY!! back to what i was saying– i think megumi would lie in keiji's favour, because she wants to get him out of there alive (sympathetic megumi ftw!) but she may hold it over his head a bit, if only to keep him in line with her plans by means of guilt. it's worth it, though, if she can make up for what happened with the shooting– really, she couldn't believe it when she saw keiji! after he quit, i bet they'd barely seen each other since. the bags under his eyes make his face look so gaunt and haunted compared to how he was when he was a kid…

she still treats him like a kid, too. they slowly fall into the mentor-pupil relationship again they had before, by habit, like ancient cogs beginning to turn for the first time in years. but, this isn't all easygoing, of course.

i don't think megumi would apologise for the coverup. at least, not right away. she seemed very keen on ignoring it back when the shooting happened, so despite any guilt she'd have around the incident, she doesn't bring it up. keiji's somewhat content to keep it that way as well, considering that facing what he did would shatter him. but being with megumi is like facing the shooting… i'm sure being with her like that would bring up bad memories and relight slumbering resentment. he'd eventually want an apology, an explanation, something… how soon "eventually," would be, though, i'm not sure. especially considering that keiji wants to survive, and megumi will help him do that.

though, i think keiji's will to live in this scenario would be a little weaker, oddly enough. because when he kills megumi, that plunges him into the confirmation of himself as a sinner-- he has more to run from, and if he's killed two people now for the sake of his well-being (first because he feared for his life, second in hopes of being rid of his trauma), why not do it again? he's not going to dwell on it anyway, he's not going to look…

but keiji in this scenario is wrestling with himself. he'd still like to be a protector. maybe… it's still possible? maybe he's not damned just yet? maybe there's worth in sacrificing his life for the more vulnerable.

and that internal conflict could potentially clash harshly against megumi's goals of getting them out alive by any means necessary. she's not malicious, and she wouldn't try to get someone killed for the fuck of it, but when it comes down to it, she's just there for them.

i do think megumi would feel guilty for the children, though… gin and kanna are so young. sara is so bright-eyed and clever, it almost reminds her of what keiji was like back then… but she's willing to shoulder the guilt of murder for keiji this time, if only to finally atone for what she did to him and to save herself as well.

there's a few ways this could go though!! i have about four. 1) megumi is ruthlessly logical as keiji is in the actual game, and keiji goes along with it for the sake of his own survival. they end up being the sole survivors of the death game; keiji hates megumi and is entirely broken // 2) same as the last one except the rest of them thwart megumi and keiji's evil plans and maybe keiji and / or megumi die.. :v // 3) megumi is still ruthlessly logical BUT keiji's resentment of megumi and his morals push him away from her and he works against her to protect everyone // 4) megumi starts out logically, but noticing how keiji has changed as a result of his trauma and how cold he's become (she can see the same strains of her "forget morality, save yourself" logic in him and some of his decisions) she decides to let herself fall to emotion and either sacrifices herself for keiji or someone else.

and, some misc. things i didn't get to mention above....!!

i REALLY loved your idea of megumi being team mom. with the above in mind, it's exactly parallel to keiji's role in the normal death game! a should-be protector wracked by guilt who abuses their power regardless. and to think of keiji potentially taking on the role of the abuser while also possibly being one of the vulnerable underneath the force of that power… it's just really interesting!

depressing parallels aside though, i think megumi would be a nice sensible mom figure for this group of idiots sjfhddj. maybe a little blunt or initially distant, but ultimately caring.

as for her role in a wider sense, i think megumi would actually be more trustworthy than keiji is in the normal death game. although she has the disadvantage of sexism working against her, she's actually in a police outfit and lacks the shady appearance. i'm certain she could conduct herself in a way that would garner everyone's trust-- she wouldn't have any questions she needed to dodge like keiji in the main game, unless keiji brought up the shooting, but even then, that's much less severe than murder. there wouldn't be any creepy flirting with her either, not only because there's no questions to dodge in the first place, but i think she'd opt to use her authority to harshly shut down any opposition, like she did with keiji after the shooting. and when that fails, she'd fall back on logical and / or manipulative rebuttals. i also think a large part of why nao and reko specifically don't like keiji is because he's a man! a creepy man at that, and that feeling really is justified, but the point is that megumi's a woman, a respectable woman, so they wouldn't have the same qualms with her. she could also prove herself to be a more capable leader than sara, being older and still having a cool head. she'd very much come off as a reliable leader if she tried to, i think.

but back to happier things!! i think keiji would take on a less authoritative role if under megumi's wing. it's hard to say exactly how his role would change, considering that we don't know if keiji saw the percentage papers normally, and if he did in this au, would megumi as well and would they both try to cling onto sara for survival's sake? BUT i'm not going to get into that, i just want to say that i think it'd be neat if keiji took up an older brother position to in group! kind of the same as the normal death game, except he has less control over what the group does and is more on the same standings as the other participants. i think he'd get closer to being a genuine protector in this scenario, fail sooner at his attempts to avoid emotional attachments to the other participants, and i also think he'd do a lot less of the creepy flirting!! because really, the only reason he did that anyway was to dodge questions, and that'd be a lot less necessary if 1) he had dependable megumi vouching for him from the beginning, therefore making him less suspicious to the others // 2) megumi's death would no longer be a topic of concern cos it didn't happen! // 3) if someone attempted to dig up info about his past or something of the sort, something that could get in the way of the group's trust of him and therefore keiji and megumi's chances of survival, megumi could likely shut it down as she has a good reputation amongst the group. besides, the only one who would say shit like that is shin, and people don't trust him very much anyways sjfjsbfnd.

i think keiji and sara would potentially have a less manipulative and more wholesome friendship in this au ahhh ;<;

as much as a manipulative dick megumi is to keiji in this au, she gets softer when his hallucinations seem to be affecting him more, or when he has nightmares. (CAN YOU TELL I'M A SUCKER FOR FLAWED BUT GENUINE MENTORSHIPS YET)

i've started to become STAUNCHLY AGAINST the notion that keiji killed megumi maliciously or that he would kill megumi maliciously!! because logically, it'd probably be more beneficial to have such a trustworthy ally in the death game (maybe not trustworthy to him, but to everyone else) and emotionally, I JUST THINK THEY'D HAVE BEEN CLOSE BEFORE OKAY AND I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA THAT HE'D KILL HER 😭😭 (that's more my emotions than his LOL, but i think it's so important that megumi's murder was an inactive murder that keiji was unsure of to the moment it happened and beyond!! you could say his angst about killing megumi during the 2nd main game is more about him killing another person, regardless of whether or not it was megumi, BUT i like to think the fact that it was megumi SPECIFICALLY was significant to him.) so that's why throughout i haven't really entertained the idea of him trying to kill her or anything like that, especially considering the theory i'm weaving this au under, which dictates keiji would likely be a lil softer + more emotional :>

CONSIDER,,, in that scenario i posed where megumi sacrifices herself for someone / keiji: while she's dying or before her death, she hugs keiji and tells him she's sorry, it wasn't his fault. no one's ever told him this before because he's refused to talk about what happened with anyone after her dismissal of it. after she says that, though, it feels as though he's let out a breath he's been holding for years and some of the weight of the shooting is finally gone.

4. Izaya Orihara from Durarara

Ah yes, the og queen bitch. Has my taste for villains ever recovered from Izaya? No. If your villain isn’t at least a bit like Izaya I’m not interested. Durarara was one of my first serious fandoms and Izaya was the first character I ever wrote for and I think you can explain me as a person if you consider Izaya was my all time fav at 13. I can’t really say anything about Izaya that hasn’t been said thousands of times before, I love how goofy and overperformative he can be, I love how there’s so much in him once you crack him open, I love how good of a villain he is for a messy story such as DRRR, puppeteer villains are really a league of their own. We need more puppeteering twinks, maybe then I’d be more into villains yaknow.

3. Hawks from Boku no Hero Academia 

To no ones surprise!Him! I’ve been drifting off from BNHA recently what from catching bad case of JJK what from just reading n watching more other stuff and honestly that’s probably good because I’ve been into BNHA for a couple of years now as my main fandom and I really could have used a break. Not to say I don’t like BNHA anymore tbh I think right now BNHA is the best it’s ever been just ya know, drifting. That being said my love for Hawks will never die, god what a good boy and we got his backstory too aaa ;-;. BNHA was just like Servamp, something I liked but didn’t really have a fav character in until this random support character strolled in and won my heart. God I love how much we got on Hawks. He’s completely different from his initial impression and his unrelenting strive to do good despite being thrown from one horrible situation to the next is just ;-; HES SUCH A GOOD BOY. He’s selfless to a fault, literally putting everyone before himself and putting himself down for not being able to achieve more than is humanly possible I’m just ;-; I WANT HIM TO BE HAPPY. He just makes my heart happy, he’s good and warm and hardworking and in a manga where trauma plays such a major role in so many characters it’s so good to see Hawks there, having been through three different types of hell and still coming out unnerving in his goodness. All I want for him is to have a good life and to one day be able to smile for real.

2. Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen

Again no surprise since I’ve been so into jjk lately. Satoru is p high up rn cuz I’m mainly into JJK now but god knows where he will actually settle. He’s not even really my favorite character in the show, that goes to Inumaki, but this is a list of who I think about the most (tho all of these characters are either no 1 or no 2 for their shows) and boy my brother and foxy can tell you I’m constantly thinking about this bitch. I didn’t really care about him that much at the start but then I got to Hidden Inventory and OH BOY MUCH TO THINK ABOUT. Satoru is such a wonderfully complex character whos evolution you can clearly follow through the years. He’s under so much pressure as the strongest sorcerer to deal with everything and he has to operate in that system trying to change it for the better while at the same time trying to make sure his students arent sacrificed in the name of that change. He has a very goofy disposition but along side with Nanamin who’s a lot more explicit about it, it’s clear he cares about mental state of his students a whole lot. He knows this world is terrible and that the will come out of it with scars and that he can’t protect them from all of it, but he balances protecting and letting them grow as much as he can. They need to grow so jujutsu society can change after all, but they also need to be protected so they don’t fuckin die before that can happen. This is without all the many many opinions I have on Hidden Inventory and SatoSugu as a whole, how they influenced each other, how differently they reacted to their shared trauma (Funny how everyone on this list is fuckin traumatized) and what resulted from it. How their fucking love story is dramatic enough to be a Shakespeare play. Also I like it when he’s long and goofy ahahah

1. Chuuya Nakahara from Bungou Stray Dogs

Not to objectify men on main but I couldn’t choose a picture 

If there is ever a day when I don’t go feral over Chuuya I’ll probably be dead. He not only lives in my head rent free he owns the place.

BSD has such a great setup with Chuuya, like he’s ex partners with the mentor of the main character who got betrayed and abandoned when the mentor left shared evil organization. Sounds like grounds for drama right? YOUD THINK SO. Like Chuuya and Dazai have such a great and interesting dynamic and you can feel how strained it is from the distance and betrayal and they bicker and fight as their defining relationship trait BUT there is such a strong underlying trust to all the fighting. These two trust each other with their whole lives and that hasn’t changed despite everything, despite how much time has passed and how much that trust had been tested. So you’d think he’d be an important character :) HES STUCK IN SUPPORT HONESTLY HES STUCK IN BACKGROUND UNLESS HES NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING COOL AAAAAA. Chuuya is literally one of a kind, I’ve never seen a character with such a good design and such an cool power and such an interesting relationship to one of the main characters and such a love and support from the fandom BE SO UTERLLY AND COMPLETLY WASTED. Even when we get Chuuya scraps they rarely build on relationship he has in canon but just throw in new random ones at him (tho that’s a broader problem of Kafka throwing new characters at the plot instead of developing the one he already has really). We get a hint of a cool fight with him? Completely cut out, More often then not it just feels like he is benched because he’s so damn strong there would just be no plot tension if he went in and broke some heads (which is also a problem with Satoru, guys stop writing op characters if you’ll just put em on the bus aaa). Anyway he’s completly and utterly wasted by the plot.

And it’s such a waste because he’s such a good character. Like he’s a member if the villain organization and is obviously by that very vicious and violent but also so empathetic and kind to people he considers his friends. He and Dazai have the brawn and brain thing going on and stg Chuuya is like the only brawn I can think of that is classier then their brain. Look at how this guy dressed, he’s high class gay, hat, choker, coat, gloves, he is bringing in the looks. I love how he can actually be completely calm and rational and put together but then put him with Dazai and it’s back to ‘we are 15 and we will scream out heads off at each other’, they are so childish. 

Anyway I love Chuuya he deserves to be treated better and I will never stop screaming about Chuuya ever

Quick note, I'm answering all of these from a canonverse angle specifically.

USUK/UKUS SURVEY (by americapersonified) QUESTIONS:

- In what decade did they officially become involved?

If you know me, you know I loooooove WWII USUK. There's just so much significance, both personal and historical, to the WWII US-UK alliance that I doubt they didn't start dating during the 1940s. Maybe they first kissed on VE Day, maybe they first kissed on Janurary 8th, 1942 (you'll find out the significance of that date eventually if you follow along with my historical USUK fic "Tigers in the Sky", wink wonk).

- Who tops? (USUK or UKUS?)

They wrestle it out. Either that, or they do rock/paper/scissors. In all seriousness, it likely depends on what fantasies they're acting out, who's less drunk, etc etc.

- Was either of them a virgin before their first hookup?

Maybe America, definitely not England, though I like changing this around in human AUs.

- If not, to whom did each lose his virginity?

England either lost his virginity to Portugal or France, depending on just how closely England entangled himself with them during alliances/invasions.

Although I doubt America lost his virginity in canonverse (before WWII, that is), I guess his first time might be with either France or a human. With France, it'd have happened during the Rev War to spite England, while if it was with a human, it was a one-night stand that America probably felt bad about afterwards.

- Are they more patient with each other in private, or do they bicker/tease each other all the time?

A mixture of both, to be honest? They express more affection and intimacy in private, as they don't feel a need to put up the same barriers they maintain in public or when around other people. At the same time, they're both always up for a verbal sparring match, regardless of whether or not they're behind closed doors.

- Will they get married?

I'm a sucker for gooey romantic shit, so of course they do. Anyway, speaking from their perspectives, they love each other and probably have preconceived notions of what a modern long-term romantic relationship should look like, so they'd get married regardless of what their bosses think.

- If so, where will the wedding be held? (Add other details if you wish)

Regardless of whether or not they're public figures, their ceremony was probably rather small but still decorated rather nicely with some of their closest allies invited cordially as guests. I think the first time around they'd get married in a quaint chapel in the English countryside somewhere, but when they renew their vows they alternate between each other's bucket list venues -- so one decade, America insists on renewing their vows in Las Vegas with an Elvis impersonator as the officiator, another decade England arranges a ceremony on a historic ship, the decade after that America organizes a bombastic ceremony at Disney World, and so in so forth.

- At whose house do they most often stay together?

In canon, they usually stay at America's house. In my opinion, they try to split trips 50/50 whenever possible, though any number of reasons could compel one of them to visit the other more often.

- Do they refer to each other by their nation names or human names?

Depends on the situation, time period, etc. I think that both their nation and human names are intimate for different reasons that evolve over time.

- What pet names do they have for each other?

America @ England: sweetheart, babe, baby, (insert gooey silly pet name here when he's trying to tease England rather than openly express affection towards him)

England @ America: love, poppet, my love (He uses these both sarcastically and endearingly.)

- Who drives?

Depends on which side the country they're in drives on.

- Is Alfred good at making Arthur's tea?

Eventually, he develops a knack for brewing tea just the way England likes it, but he doesn't admit to himself that he cares about England enough that he's learned how to make perfect tea and scones -- it's just so that England will stop making a sad face and cheer up, you see! A hero can't do heroism when his lover is all pouty and sad! Anyway, England knows that America can brew tea correctly, and so he gets pissed off whenever America brews his tea incorrectly, as England knows that his lover is trying to get a rise out of him.

- It's universally accepted that Arthur is bad at cooking. Does Alfred enjoy cooking? Is he good at it? Or does he usually stick to McDonalds and fast food?

Hey, England's canonically good at baking :( But anyway, I have no doubt America can actually cook very well when he tries. However, fast food is easy, tasty, and convenient for him, so he usually just orders delivery when he's not having England or a friend over. I bet England would be surprised that America can actually cook really well the first time America prepares a lavish three-course Thanksgiving meal for the two of them, though America brushes off the effort he puts into cooking and alternates between pretending that he doesn't know how to cook and taking pride in how much better his cooking totally is compared to everyone else's.

- Do they shower together? (Not specifically for sex)

As long as the shower stall or bathtub is big enough, yes. Just as England fixes up America's shirt collar and tie before attending formal events, England likely also joins America in the shower to both save water and make sure America washes himself and towels off properly. I'm not sure how they'd stay in such close proximity to each other while naked for so long without getting at least a little handsy, though, lol

- Who smells better? (In your opinion)

Uh, England? While America probably has a nice warm sandalwood and sea breeze musk when he's trying to be seductive, he's also sloppy enough that he'd smell of grease, lint, and sweat most of the time (sorry, you know it's true). England is probably more attentive to his own personal hygiene and so usually carries a faint aroma of rose blooms and tea.

- How vocal are they in bed?

Both are very vocal, though England probably moreso when America's doing a good job.

- Is spending time together easy, or are they forced apart for long periods at a time?

I'm a sucker for America and England dealing with the loneliness and longing of a long-distance relationship, so while they'd do their best to find time to visit each other, they both have separate lives and duties that sometimes keep them apart. Still, they generally spend every vacation together, and their allies/friends are used to every invitation likely involving a plus one at this point.

- Are they wealthy, or do they live modestly?

Depends on the time period and where they are. I'd imagine they both own lavish estates and apartments/flats as well as some more modest homes across their respective nations, though they try to maintain lifestyles similar to those of their more average people.

- For Alfred specifically: Glasses on or off?

On in public, off in private or when they're being annoying (as glasses are wont to do).

- How often do they break up?

Unless they have a really bad misunderstanding, I don't think they'd take breaks or break up. They've developed good communication and rapport with each other after decades of dating.

- Open relationship?

In terms of romance, definitely not, they're both too possessive (and also imperial powers lmao). In terms of the bedroom, however, maybe that'd be a different story... (Jealous possessive America ftw)

- Did Arthur actually care for Alfred before the revolution?

Hmm, probably in a paternalistic (NOT paternal) sense, like America/Alfred was an abstract love object for him who he sometimes mentored and sometimes brought gifts for, but who he otherwise chronically neglected up until America broke off their relationship unilaterally with force.

ok so this headcanon/au list is weeks of me randomly writing down stuff. (i may make a list of some more uh... nsfw headcanons later on, but idk)

also, some of these aus are very dumb and unrealistic, but whatever, so

there is no beetlebabes shipping in this at all. don’t even try. the only shipping is charles/delia (do they have an official ship name?) and adam/barbara/beetlejuice, which is beetlelands and/or goldenrat!

(some of these are very unrealistic/basically just me projecting but this is my list and i’ll Do What I Want)

also, fuck formatting, i’m too lazy

- au where higher powered demons/ghouls have wings. naturally, beetlejuice has them and he is a fucking disaster. he knocks shit over, gets them caught on everything, and will knock people over. (somehow, they’re the only thing that’s actually clean)

- au in which the netherworld had a more lasting effect on lydia, and causes her to have sort of “fainting” spells (there’s a whole long and convoluted explanation but i’m too lazy to type it out.) since this is obviously bad for multiple reasons, beej turns into a “service” dog to help her at school (the fact that he knows lydia is being bullied may have influenced his decision)

- lydia and beetlejuice share one, very very damaged brain cell between them. they’re both smart in their own ways, but the second they try and solve something together? nothing. they usually end up almost going through with a stupid scheme until someone stops them last minute

- they may not have a dog, but (big) sandy the sandworm is just as happy to play fetch

- they also have a “girls” night once a week, in which they watch crappy horror movies, paint their nails, talk shit about people, and beetlejuice gushes complains about the maitlands

- bj can actually speak quite a few languages (he’s been around quite a long time, after all) however, he chooses to hide this fact until a time where he can a) freak someone out or b) show off

- bj follows lydia to school occasionally and will either make snide comments about the other students, or tell lydia what they’re doing on their phones (lydia sometimes hears things she wishes she had never known)

- lydia and beetlejuice stay “married”, but only in a convinient way (financial aid and tax benefits ftw, beetlebabes fuck off)

- beetlejuice plays the ukulele (as shown in the musical) and you can sometimes hear him playing on the roof (if he sees anyone listening he’ll immediately stop and go pink and disappear)

- bj and lydia go to pride every year, and Fuck Shit Up in a (mostly) legal way. once the maitlands figure out how to leave the house, they accompany them and let loose and join them in their chaos. delia eventually starts coming as well. charles stays home to preserve his sanity.

- beetlejuice figures out the maitlands can leave the house so long as they have a piece of it with them, and so makes them bracelets with wood from the house. they’re both extremely happy and grateful.

- beetlejuice and miss argentina are pals, and hung out together when beej used to spend all of his time in the underworld (he still pops by to visit her occasionally, and even helped her with the backlash/work after juno died)

- au where it’s now book of mormon, and lydia and bj are paired up for a mission. chaos ensues. (don’t ask me how this one would work, because i honestly don’t know.)

- lydia has a sleepover at her house with school friends. one of them brings a ouija board. beej and the maitlands decided to have time fun with it, and lydia tries not to crack up watching them.

- delia and beetlejuice are friends (bc they lowkey have a decent amnt in common ngl) and delia will occasionally join in on beej & lyds’ schemes

- delia treats beej like a son due to him acting like lydia’s crazy and feral (yet very loving and overprotective) older brother. charles doesn’t get it, but it makes her happy so he goes along with it.

- just like beej and lyds have “girls night”, delia, barbara, and beetlejuice have something similar where they drink wine, gossip about the neighborhood moms, and watch shitty reality tv and yell at the screen. charles tried to interrupt once and got a bottle of wine thrown at him (courtesy of delia)

- beetlejuice and lydia are Trans As Fuck (lydia’s lesbian and beej is pan) the maitlands are both bi, delia is pan and charles is Straight.

- souleater au where lydia is the meister and bj is her weapon

- beej has a big fat crush on the maitlands, but him being the emotionally stunted demon he is, has absolutely no idea how to express this

- the maitlands suspect that bj is crushing on them, but they aren’t completely sure (they still think he’s adorable, though)

- beej loves cuddling. that’s it, that’s the headcanon. he is a very touchy person (and not just in a perverted way.) he and lydia can be seen cuddling in bed binging horror movies, and bj is known to get comfy on the couch that is definitely not big enough for both him and the maitlands. (also, beej loves being the little spoon.)

- lydia and delia share a very niche interest in astrology, and it’s probably one of the only things they have in common. (delia still loves lydia and lydia loves her too, even if she would never admit it)

- au where lydia dies in some accident, and beetlejuice pulls a bunch of strings to make her a demon. he now has to train her to use her newly gained powers. (to make her a demon, they had to be related, so he adopts her as his younger sister)

- to mash together the au above and the wing au from the top of the list, one day lydia starts growing wings and beetlejuice couldn’t be prouder.

- the maitlands have really dumb (but cute) nicknames for beetlejuice (gummyworm, teddy bear, marshmallow, etc. they occasionally call him lawrence, which makes him melt.) lydia has borderline insulting nicknames for bj (trash man, hobo, stinky bastard, etc.) and charles and delia just call him random variations of his name (mr. juice, beetleman, mr. beetle, etc. they will use his full name if he does something too chaotic, and it’s then he knows to run)

• beetlejuice was a son of hectate, but died after performing wayyyy too many rituals to increase his magic, and it eventually got too much to control and the strain killed him. he keeps his powers when he dies though. (he got banished from the underworld and was tied to a living soul for as long as they lived - it was lydia, so now they Fuck Shit Up together. hades regrets his choice of punishment.)

• barbara is a daughter of harmonia

• adam is a son of hephaestus

• delia is a legacy of eros

barbara and adam are instructors at camp halfblood (barbara teaching pottery and adam teaching woodworking)

they take lydia under their wing when they notice she doesn’t really have friends, and so they eventually meet beetlejuice (he has a Big Crush on them but refuses to do anything about it. for now.)

- hunger games au time! (at this point i’m just doing aus of all of the old young adult series i used to read)

• beetlejuice and lydia were the tributes chosen from district 12 (with beetlejuice volunteering to protect lydia during the games)

• their mentor is juno, who is an asshole and is utterly useless, as she doesn’t think they have any chance

• the maitlands are a couple that live in the capitol, even if they really don’t agree with the morals and lifestyle. they are huge sponsors for bj and lyds during the games.

• beej and lyds are the last ones standing, and after all the trouble that beetlejuice has made the capitol go through during the games, they decide it isn’t worth it to try and kill them, so they both win.

• the maitlands secretly take in both of them after the games

• charles flips houses and delia is an artist, they know about the maitlands and help keep the secret

- time for the divergent au nobody asked for!

• lydia was born erudite and transferred dauntless (she could’ve stayed erudite as well)

• beetlejuice was born dauntless and stayed (he did have an aptitude for amity, but he’ll take that to the grave)

(taking some liberties here and making it so that factions can interact with each other outside of school and mandatory events, however intermarriage and dating between factions is a no no)

the maitlands find beetlejuice doing Stupid Shit in the woods near amity. this happens a few times, with bj and lyds running away each time, until they finally catch them and they all meet.

the maitlands take lyds under their wing, but don’t know what to think about beetlejuice (they secretly adore him, but won’t be telling him that anytime soon. bj has a Humongous Crush on them, and tells them. eventually. they end up dating despite the illegality of it)

(ok so again, more liberties, cats can choose to join another clan when they become apprentices, and the clans interact a lot more outside of meetings and battles. also the only one i have a warrior name for is beetlejuice, because his would literally just be Beetlejuice)

beej is lyd’s mentor for non-medicine cat stuff (as shadow clan teaches their med cats to fight, and i feel like they would get all of the same training normal apprentices did, such as hunting)

lyds and the maitlands get along and hang out a lot, and beetlejuice just kinda trails along. yet again he has a crush on them. however, he minimizes his time with them so that they don’t find reasons to dislike him (in his eyes)

- ok so we’ve done one cat au, time for a much more niche one! this one is based on the book claws, by mike and rachel grinti. (it’s a middle school level book for sure, but i picked it up sometime in elementary school and i still love it now that i’m older)

• beej as jack (although he still has magic, his magic is just super chaotic and hard to control) lyds as emma, and they go on a quest for how lydia’s mom died (something to do with the faries)

• beetlejuice only agrees to do the quest because he wants a friend, which was really the whole reason behind giving lydia the heart.

• the maitlands are part of the pride that lyds takes over. they were wary of her at first, but backed her up when she needed it. they warmed up to her quickly after that, and they take her under their wing to show her the ropes of how prides work

beej continues to hang out with lydia, but isn’t really accepted by the pride for the most part, with the maitlands being the closest to being his friends. this eventually changes, and they grow closer over time.

- small httyd au: lydia is a viking, her dad is a high ranking official, her mom killed in a dragon raid, delia still does art ig.

• the maitlands are dragons, and lydia befriends them. she later befriends another dragon, beetlejuice. she eventually teaches the villiage dragons are good and all that jazz.

- ok back to headcanons now: adam rescued injured wildlife when he was alive, and that hasn’t stopped now that he’s dead. a section of the roof is dedicated to little habitats/enclosures for injured animals, so that they can rest up and heal

- although she isn’t so good at rescuing animals like adam is, barbara still loves animals. (beetlejuice will turn into different animals so that he has an excuse to cuddle her)

- bj secretly enjoys how vanilla/naive the maitlands can be, and thinks it’s really cute

- beetlejuice is actually pretty good at cooking, and will make dinner for him and the maitlands on date night. (he also cooks comfort food for people when they’re upset)

- bj is an internet troll. that’s it that’s the headcanon.

- beetlejuice wasn’t born or anything, juno just kinda made him by accident, and that’s why she hates him so much. so, one day beetlejuice just came into existence, a full 5ft 8inches of pure chaos.

this headcanon is a bit odd for me, because it changes depending on the story/plot i’m thinking about, so i’m now reintroducing the trans headcanons so i can explain how it would work.

he presented as female for a while before saying “fuck that” and coming out. he would’ve done it sooner, but seeing as he just started existing one day, it took a bit for him to realize that not wanting to be the gender he was born as just Wasn’t Normal. idk if the netherworld has hrt, but im basing my version of it more off the cartoon, in which people have like houses and lives, i’m assuming it exists, so he got hrt surgery n shit

on the other side, when this headcanon doesn’t apply, he was about 16 when he came out, his parents said Fuck That because he was growing up pretty far in the past (idk exact time period, but trans people were a big No No) and he ended up offing himself. he ends up altering his appearance or going through hrt/surgery in the netherworld.

- in a human au, because i just thought of thi, he’d come out at age 16 still, and juno, shitty parent she is, kicks him out. the deetzes take him in, with lydia being about 14ish, and the maitlands are their tenants who become the second set of parents. (lydia is trans in human au)

- continuing the trans hc, lydia and her parents suspected when she was about 9ish, and so after having it confirmed by multiple doctors and specialists, was put on blockers until she could start hrt at 16. it’s a very happy day when she turns 16 and beetlejuice definitely doesn’t cry

- beetlejuice has a phobia of water and that’s one reason why he doesn’t shower (the maitlands eventually help him deal with it enough to be able to shower/bathe occasionally, because he still does like his trashy look)

- bj does drag. lydia and delia help him with makeup and clothing.

- beej also worked as a male stripper for a time at dante’s inferno in the netherworld. he’s amazing at pole dancing, and he can walk like a pro in heels.

- also, because heels autocorrected to heelys st first, beej owns heelys and will zoom around the house in them. lydia eventually buys a pair for herself and they Go Crazy

Black Widow Solo Film Wishlist

Two overlapping timelines: modern day and 1940’s Russia

1940’s is Natasha’s origins in the Red Room; showcasing her training and her relationship with the other girls in the program.

Give me a scene with Peggy Carter, where she tries to give Nat a way out of the Black Widow program through joining SHIELD. (Have something happen where Peggy has to flee/Nat refuses or something, since we know she doesn’t join until later. I just really want a scene with the OG Marvel ladies!)

After Nat joins SHIELD, Clint teaches her how to do an American accent and some ASL. In exchange, she teaches him Russian.

Hinata and Sasuke getting to be teachers and having protégés are relationships I've been wanting to explore them, so I definitely want to explore that!

Sasuke I could definitely adjust his JJK verse and have him be a teacher. Maybe to add some drama, he defects from being a sorcerer. Or maybe we could play around with a curse user verse here? What do you make of the teacher and student dynamic where one goes to the 'dark' side. I like the conflict it could present, but as always we can talk more about this if it catches your attention. Also just to throw this out...because I like high drama from time to time, I'd be open to killing off Sasuke. Student killing their teacher and figuring out what to do from there. I find it spicy and a great dose of angst.

Hinata definitely still struggle with her confidence, like how am I supposed to teach these kids to survive out there?? I think that could be interesting issue to explore with either of your muses! She'd definitely advocate for the students to look after themselves in terms of mental health and always checking in with themselves. Due to her own struggles she wants her students to have resources to help. Cooking with Hinata would be a thing. I feel she would have certain feelings regarding these kids going out and risking their lives so young. I haven't fully unpacked Hinata in terms of being a teacher, but definitely much to look into I think once I find her groove better!

Naruto having Nobara as a protégé actually makes me laugh. I feel they would be bickering all the time. Though he fully supports his student is that teacher that yells from the stands for her to kick ass. That’s his energy as teacher, always supporting whatever his students are doing and if they’re up to mischief he’ll turn the other way because kids gotta have their fun. There will be a lot of hair ruffles, sorry Nobara. >>; 

Junpei and Yuuta, I definitely agree with you that they have to figure it out! I think we have to figure out their chemistry, how do they get along? With the more they interact, we’ll get there! Though I’d definitely be down for them have a friendship. They find something they enjoy doing together! It could be an situation that maybe whenever Yuuta finds himself back the school Junpei happens to be there? With no-one else is around really, Yuuta will go Junpei because he wants a friend to hang out with.  

Izuku and Junpei. They give me cute vibes, plus they both share a past of being bullied. They could find understanding with each other with that shared experience. Beyond their sad pasts, they could totally nerd out. Junpei about movies and Izuku about heroes. Each of them takes turn rambling about their favorite topic lol. Just piling moments like that between them I think could create a room for crushes to bloom between them. I definitely agree with your comment, a fond look in their way could definitely get them crushing. And because I love shipping just them pinning would be cute. Having cute moments where they brush shoulders or arms. Sitting super close as they watch movies together and it’s kind of hard to focus on the movie because they’re just so aware of the other beside them. ahem. But they like their friendship too and it’s like is confessing their feeling worth losing this wonderful friendship they developed? Who knows. c: 

Katsuki and Junpei. I honestly...we just have to throw them together and I will accept whatever springs between these two. Don’t have a clue how they come together because well their personalities seem like they would clash. Plus Katsuki did bully Izuku back in the day, and I just wonder if that have any impact on Junpei if that ever got out? There’s definitely potential but really gotta see them interact to open the door of potential between them. 

Yuuta and Maki: I really love how they both are Maki fans. If share nothing else, it’s their eternal admiration for Maki. I just love that. Does Maki know what these two get up lmao? I wonder how she take it. Somethings are better left alone kind of mindset? Them both crushing on Maki, that sounds really interesting. Like they’re supportive of each other’s crushes but also have this friendly competition? Kind like ‘Maki gave me a smirk today’ ‘So Maki kicked my ass today and called me a baka.’ Something like that. At the end of the day they’re friends and if you insult Maki in front of them they’re going to come after you. Sleep with one eye open. c: 

Izuku and Katsuki with Nobara: Izuku wouldn’t mind her! I think he’d like having a big sister figure. She’s so confident, maybe she could help him with having more confidence in himself! Chin up kid, you got this type of deal. Meanwhile Bakugou will just be his usual gremlin self and tell her to buzz off, she’s annoying. Though seeing her battle, he’s has to drink the respect because she is badass on the field. Seeing the lengths she’ll go, he likes her intensity! I’m totally  picturing the fight she teamed up with yuuji ( it’s my fave)

Mass Effect Trilogy Thoughts

I’m ten years late to the party (or 5 years depending on if you start at ME1 or ME3) but I finally finished the Mass Effect Trilogy, thanks to Dragon Age.

Here are my thoughts on the games, the ending, random bits, the romance, etc, etc...

After I played the trilogy I looked around tumblr and found that a lot of people thought the first game was clunky. I, for one, while I know there were kinks (especially regarding dialogue/romance options), loved the first game so much that it’s my favorite of the three games. I played Vanguard and once I got barrier I had so much fun just standing in the middle of fire blasting everything in sight. I hate shooter games because I suck at them, but ME1 allowed me to have fun. The unlimited ammo really was what got me, ‘cause I’m a terrible shot. Of course there was the whole heating thing for your weapon, but I rather have that than, “Oops, out of ammo!”

I didn’t like the battle system for ME2 and the whole working for Cerberus. The characters were pretty awesome, but it took me a bit to learn not to flirt since I wanted to be faithful to Kaidan (I play paragon, so I had to learn to stick to the middle options on the dialogue wheel). ME2 was pretty much my least favorite. I only wish I could have played with Legion more. 

ME3 took the best of ME1 and ME2 and made a great game...up until the ending of course. But seriously, ME3 is great and really fun and I loved just going around doing my Biotic Charge/Nova combo. Yeah, let me just charge a Brute or a Banshee that could literally one shot me and then nova/shotgun/charge them to death before they can kill me. That, to me, is seriously fun! Biotic power ftw!

The ending though. That ending...back before I had even heard of Bioware and was vaguely familiar with the name Dragon Age (I had thought to purchase it back in 2009 but went “Nope, I probably won’t like it” - fuck, how wrong I was...) I heard about the notoriously bad ME3 ending. It was all over the place in my geek sphere. So before I played the trilogy I looked up the ending on the wiki and read about it in articles, and I knew I’d hate it. So, since I’m on PC, I looked up some mods. I never met the star child (or whatever) or had to make a choice and I’m grateful for that. (My Shep always survives because I’m a completionist and I always get all war assets thus my end score is well above what’s needed for everyone to survive.)

First I got the regular MEHEM, played the trilogy, and the ending, with this mod, didn’t feel right. It didn’t satisfy me at all. I needed to redo some things to get the ending I wanted (I accidentally killed Steve Cortez in my first pt, fuck that noise) so I played ME3 a second time and used a new ending mod called JAM. That pt went perfectly. The ending seriously made me happy, and if felt so right! The Extended Ending, plus JAM, plus the Leviathan DLC, allowed me to enjoy the trilogy with no tears (besides for Anderson, Thane, Mordin, and Legion). There was only ONE plot hole with this combo.

The catalyst obviously targeted Reaper technology (in this mod/DLC combo), but the Geth and EDI were integrated with Reaper code. So how did they survive? (You know they survived by the ending slides with the Geth and EDI calling for Shepard when the gang went looking for her.) So I have to head canon an extra side quest after Priority: Rannoch, where the Geth and EDI discuss looking for a firewall against the catalyst energies for their built in Reaper code. Maybe they get it from the Keepers on the Citadel or maybe they create one together. Of course there is worry about the Reapers getting hold of this firewall, blah blah blah, but they keep it on the hush and hush and it works out in the end. I had no issues with the destroy ending where the Citadel and the relays go boom, because it made sense to me, I only worried about EDI and the Geth. (I united the Geth with their Creators, I’m not letting them die!) So I head canon the side quest and they’re safe. 

There is also the nightmares Shepard has about the boy. I also head canon that when she passes out after Anderson dies, she dreams again, and this time, instead of just standing and watching the boy catch fire, she saves him, she takes action, she stands up for herself and doesn’t let her guilt or fears or worries control her. She wakes with a start (and renewed energy/life) and then activates the Crucible/Catalyst. Perfect ending to me, yes, yes. (Watch here!)

As for the continuation of the series, after playing the trilogy I was disappointed that they didn’t continue the story post war with the reapers. I haven’t played Andromeda yet but I understand it’s in a different Galaxy with different problems and I think that was a missed opportunity on Bioware’s part to explore the other themes/consequences of the first trilogy. There is the dark matter/biotics/eezo/mass effect fields topic to explore as well as the fall out of Shepard’s decisions, such as the Krogan population surge, Geth/Qurian alliance, and the Leviathans. Leviathans indoctrination abilities are very concerning. And granted, Mass Effect 3 did hint that the Krogan and Geth Alliance weren’t a threat, it still wasn’t made certain. Personally I like to be able to have a game where you make sure the Krogans and rachni aren’t a threat based on in-game decisions from both the old and new trilogy. Also, I like the new hero to be able to formalize that the Geth/EDI/new AIs aren’t the threat they were made out to be and we can work together (for Destroy or even control ending, synthesis ending would have to focus on how it didn’t solve the real problems/took away freedom from people). Draw parallels from humans who are evil to AIs who go evil too. And everything leading up to the true threat of Leviathan’s trying to take over again and how the team work of species can over come their old oppressors. Just a trilogy about overcoming old thoughts/beliefs/etc. And it doesn’t have to take place immediately after the reaper war either. It could take place after Shepard’s death or when Shepard is very old and retired. I mean, you could make a game like that, it’d just take finesse because of the way they made ME3′s ending. It’d be tricky with the synthesis ending. but it could happen. A can of worms, yet I truly believe with the five years of development they had they could have written something that may piss off some, but ultimately be a continuation of the interesting galaxy/world the first trilogy created.

Okay, random thought here, but regarding the Asari, wouldn’t be it hard to keep their heads/back of their neck clean? So many places for junk to pile up, cleaning their heads must be a bitch. 

Also, this game was annoying with the male gaze, eye candy thing going on. It was everywhere and it never, ever, didn’t annoy the hell out of me. Pulled me out of the story every time I saw it, that’s for sure. I Like Miranda, but with her catsuit you can even see her lips! And I’m not talking about her face lips either!)

Alright, so romances...I went in knowing I was going to romance either Garrus or Kaidan. I didn’t know these characters yet and I saw these two were romanced the most by female Shepards on tumblr, so I figured I couldn’t go wrong with either of them. Playing a paragon Shep, and getting to know Kaidan, the romance for them made sense to me (My Shep is a spacer/war hero). I was highly attracted to his character, morals, and principals. With Garrus, I can see how a renegade Shep would be all over the “fuck rules” bit but with my paragon, if felt more like a mentor/mentee relationship turn best friends type of deal than a romance. Garrus didn’t fit with my Shepard, Liabelle. I did watch a youtube vid of his romance though and he is cute af.

Of course, later, I find out everyone hates Kaidan for Horizon (or being too emotional/whiny...which felt silly to me tbh). I didn’t. Kaidan’s reaction on Horizon made sense for his character and it felt real. My Shep knew Kaidan would react like he did and while it hurt, she didn’t love him less for it. She fell for him for his principals, why would she be upset at Kaidan being Kaidan when it’s Kaidan she fell for? Hurts yes, frustrating yes, but in the end they found their way back to one another and if felt really good. Now I’m a shenko shipper through and through. 

Also loyalty to a fault can be a bad thing, sometimes you need a friend who will call you out on your shit. That’s what Kaidan did/does (though he went a bit overboard with the betrayal line, but that’s him reeling and he apologized for it). So nah, I wasn’t mad or disinterested in Kaidan after Horizon or for the beginning of ME3. I liked his character development and him coming to realize he made a mistake. You can see throughout ME3, once he comes back, how he regrets it. Ugh, the well made angst mixed with the happiness of them being back together does things to me.

In the end, Garrus and kaidan were my squad, they were my boys. I think not having Kaidan in ME2 made my dislike for the game more intense because I didn’t have my boys together. I literally shouted “MY BOYS!!” at my screen while playing ME3 when I could pick Kaidan and Garrus for my team again. It probably helped that they balanced out my Vanguard really well.

As for romanced Kaidan head canons, I will say that while they were biotic rabbits between the sheets, they were still touch and go relationship wise for most of ME3. I don’t think they were at a place in their relationship for a real marriage proposal after they find her post destroy. They definitely need time to just be and I can see that happening during leave or working on the Normandy during non war times. My husband is in the military and I asked about what would happen if they were found out and the military does give people options, either break it off or marry. I figure by the time anyone finds out they’re already engaged. That just means postings, they wouldn’t be able to work together on the Normandy. I can’t figure this one out. A part of me sees Shep retiring, another can’t see her as anything but Captain of the Normandy. Kaidan could go back to teaching, and they could meet up on Earth every shore leave Shep has...but, gah, I still haven’t figured it out yet. I do like the idea of them retiring out by Kaidan’s family’s orchard, going camping, or traveling, having kids, etc.   

Lastly, the only character I dislike is Kai Leng (too one dimensional and an ass, easy to hate). The rest I will hug if I could. And I was sad I couldn’t have a third squad mate. I’d probably pick Tali mostly with the occasionally Liara or Wrex thrown in with Kaidan and Garrus. Also I have a big soft spot for Samara. I also am weird in shipping Javik and Liara (I want them to have Asari babies!!!!...after writing their book ofc), but I think Joker and EDI are cute af and you can pry that ship from dead, cold hands. Ack, and Thane dying hurt but felt inevitable since he had a terminal illness. Mordin’s death felt a bit unnecessary, he needs to be studying seashells gdi!! ALSO WHY BIOWARE, WHY KILL LEGION, WHY!!! Oh, and Kasumi needs to be able to keep the gray box and move on...humph. 

Alright, I may write a small fic for shenko but I might not, IDK yet. All I know is I miss Dragon Age like I’m missing my other heart, so I’m going back to it soon-ish. Will replay this wonderful sci-fi trilogy again though, sometime in the future just not right away. I’ll always prefer my Dragon Age games, but this ride was definitely worth it.

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

For real fic, in terms of writing voice, I suppose I most want to emulate styles like those of JK Rowling, Terry Prachett, Philip Pullmann, I forgot his name but the guy who wrote Name of the Wind, Arundhati Roy, Jane Austen, Kazuo Ishiguro, etc etc. This is quite the eclectic group, clearly, but what I admire writing wise about them is the character they give to their words. You might call it artistry, but I like to say character because it’s not just beautiful syntax, but language that feels alive. Like the words on the page are a character in the story in the same way a setting can be a character. I want to write just like that. Not saying I’m successful but these writers are totally goals.

And there are def fanfic writers whose panache I can’t help but absorb, most particularly the ladies of Shoebox Project.

But when at least one person agrees to the deception knowing their own feelings, it feels like their deception is so much worse. I guess, if it happened to me, I’d feel taken advantage of, like the things I did as innocent jokes were consumed in a way I didn’t want them to be - even if I helped bring it on myself by being a fake relationship in the first place.
