CRUSH — toji fushiguro
synopsis: toji has a crush on you, too bad he’s awfully shy to make a move.
warnings: toji fushiguro x fem!reader, fluff, toji and reader are both awkward, no curse au, minor mentions of shiu and megumi, toji finally beating the deadbeat dad allegations.
Tumblr media
toji fushiguro felt absolutely pathetic right now.
love had never been his strong suit. in fact he was convinced he was going to die alone until he met megumi’s mom. in the brief time they were together toji felt love’s greatest pleasures until she passed, leaving him with his greatest blessing megumi.
megumi was the excuse he used these days when shiu often asked him when he was going to get himself back out there again. it was easy for shiu to say when all he had to do was to turn up his charm and work that smile to get the ladies to fall head over heels for him.
toji however was a bit rusty in that department. rusty was the lighter way of putting it. his flirting skills were essentially made redundant by the time he managed to pull megumi’s mom.
to this day he doesn’t know how he managed to do it, when all he had was shitty dark jokes and a dream. plus he had a cute body that probably really sold it for her.
how he missed her so much at times.
he wasn’t oblivious, he knew he was a fairly attractive man. he saw the way women and men alike would ogle at him, hushed whispers being exchanged as he walked past them. often breaking into giggles like they were giddy teenagers. the attention that he received was nice but he didn’t pay it much mind, especially since it wasn’t the attention he wanted.
you were the pretty face that was bartending at the old bar he frequented at.
after he was stood up on a date, you placed a consolatory drink at his table that you insisted was on the house, no matter how hard he tried to pay. it seemed that you won the battle in the end as he slumped back into his seat in resignation, raising up the glass as a silent thank you.
that small act of kindness stayed with toji for a while. he found himself gravitating towards the bar, just so he could see you. he wasn’t even a drinker with alcohol having little to no effect on him but he bought drinks anyway, hoping he could turn your brief interactions into something more.
god he was losing it.
but this was worth it when you flashed him a smile that made his heart stutter, before turning back to deal with the other patrons at the bar. he watched you make the rounds whilst simultaneously trying to brush off poor pick up lines and flirty advances from tipsy patrons.
toji waited until the end of your shift as per usual watching the last of the patrons leave the bar. the nippy weather making him wish he wore a heavier jacket. looking at the time on his watch, he figured that shiu wouldn’t complain having to babysit megumi for another 20-30 minutes.
you waved bye to your coworkers as you left the bar spotting toji leaning on one of the lampposts waiting for you. it had been a common occurence ever since a creep who couldn't take no for an answer tried to follow you home and luckily toji was there before shit hit the fan.
“thanks for waiting for me.” you tried to cool your nerves and keep your mind off the fact how he good he looked under the pale moonlight. it was hard to not be stuttering mess around toji, his tall imposing stature was one that often pushed others away but it drew you in like a moth to a flame.
“how was work?” a simple question that should encourage the simple response of it was fine or it was alright. however you short circuited, your brain lagging for a few minutes whilst toji split his attention on the road ahead and you, ever so patient.
"it was fine." you spluttered out after a couple of minutes, embarrasment creeping up behind you. god why couldn't you respond like a normal, cool person. you chided yourself quietly, hoping he wouldn't pick up on it.
toji was lucky that it was late at night, with the shadows hiding the ghost of a smile on his face. he adored every single thing about you. the rest of the walk was punctuated with heavy silence, both of you too tired and awkward to engage in deep conversations but you tried where you could.
"so, uh what plans do you have for the weekend?" you asked, trying to sound casual. it was small talk, not invasive you hoped. toji racked through his mind trying to find the most appropriate answer to the question. sure he could say he was busy but what if you wanted to invite him somewhere during the weekend?
he had to seem available but not too available where you’d think he was a jobless bum. you were a couple of minutes away from your apartment where you lived when toji finally replied.
“not much.” he replied trying to maintain a level of nonchalance in his tone. “just work and then takin' my kid to get his flu shot."
toji watched your eyes light up at the mention of his son megumi and for some odd reason it made his heart flutter more than it should've. another awkward silence passed between you both until you felt confident enough to break it.
"so..uh are you free on sunday?" you asked, rumbling around your bags for your keys to get into the apartment and it was also so you could mask the potential disappointment on your face if he declined. it was so embarrassing how he made you feel so giddy inside.
“why?” he smirked knowingly, deepening the scar on his lips even more. “you tryna ask me out or somethin’?” was that too forward? toji does not know where this sudden boost in confidence came from but he rides the waves of it, not wanting to lose the momentum in the moment.
the flustered look on your face says it all, as you feel the heat rise to your cheeks. “well…uh…yes?” you replied with a sheepishness evident in your tone, playing with the straps of your bag to avoid his gaze.
now it’s toji’s turn to reply and hopefully he prays that he doesn’t fuck this up. “i’d love t—” a vibration from his pocket interrupts the moment. he let’s the phone ring out, not bothered by shiu’s incoming meltdown for when he did eventually pick up the phone.
he wasn’t expecting that.
“ignore that…but um yeah i’d love to go out with you.” he rubbed the back of his neck, not knowing how to proceed. usually in his romantic conquests toji was usually the pursuer not the pursued so this shift in dynamic was something new entirely for him.
however he wasn't complaining, for a beautiful woman like you, he would walk the ends if the earth for you if asked. he knows it sounds pathetic but he didn't care, for right now he was the happiest man alive.
toji may have been a novice, an apprentice in love as they say but maybe that inexperience was worth it because after a bunch of bad dates he finally found you.

megumi would let the whole you calling him 'bro' thing build up with little irk marks until blowing up
yuji is breaking down immediately
megumi trying his hardest to act nonchalant about it except he’s the most chalant person on the face of the earth pls the little irk marks i know exactly what you mean 😭 the good thing is his little outburst about how he doesn’t want you calling him that puts you in the position to tease him about how he likes affection and wants a real pet name
part of me wants to say that yuuji doesn’t mind it/register it at first but the idea of him breaking down immediately—even tho he’s the person who probably calls people bro the most often—is even more hilarious you’re so right. just imagine his eyes widening and then melting and pooling with despair, he’s practically on his knees begging because this must be some kind of cruel punishment 😭😭 and when he’s stopped being so dramatic he’s back to all smiles, except for a moment when he’s dead serious and holds your face in his hands and brings his forehead to yours and says, “let’s never ever do that again, yeah?” and then goes back to smiling like all is well.
i’d like to think that satoru could at least pretend to handle it, but i don’t think he’s capable of taking an ounce of what he can dish out, so he probably just threatens to drink bleach or something. also losing the idgaf wars terrible, in fact, he might be in last place. (real talk tho, satoru messes with you alot and being annoying is part of his love language, but he’s also expressly affectionate and romantic with you, so being referred to as bro might actually crush his soul for a little bit).
kento endures it because for a long time, he genuinely does not understand that you’re referring to him. it takes so long before he politely interrupts you mid-ramble to ask, “are you… talking about me?” usually he’s beating the old man allegations, but not today. when you say yes he just sort of nods, and wonders if this is going to be a regular thing.

"Megumi wants Yuji to be with his sister."
How? The fan translation states "walked off beside someone like you, Itadori" not "walked off beside you, Itadori". Clearly (apparently, not, my bad), Megumi was making a comparison.
If he is really trying to state something here about his sister's love life (which is weird, let's be real), he is probably trying to say he wants Tsumiki to have a partner that is a good person just as she and Yuji are.
Even with the framing, I don't think this is him imaging Tsumiki and Yuji dating. It's him imagining the most important, most cherished people in his life. Tsumiki, the only family he really has ever known and Yuji, the boy who has done everything he can to help Megumi since the day they met and forming a bond with him.
Also, when in the manga has Megumi actually been interested in looking for a partner for Tsumiki? He was trying to save her from the coma she got put in! And then later, save her from the Culling Games!
And just Megumi being Megumi, him playing matchmaker for his sister is so off!
"But what about the thing with Yuko?"
Megumi was a spectator if anything else, let's be real. It was Nobara helping Yuko out and Megumi was just there to react and answer questions.(Hell, Nobara even later got agitated at the idea of Yuji getting a partner before she does.) He brought a book with him, for crying out loud. Does that seem like someone who is trying to play matchmaker?
Him putting up a ten points sign was just another scene of him being impressed by Yuji. It was no different from when he said Yuji could beat any of them in a hand to hand fight without cursed energy involved or when he complimented straight to Yuji about how adaptable he is in a fight.
He wanted Yuji's life spared because he couldn't see another good person die. Not because "my comatose sister needs a boyfriend".
If Megumi wanted Tsumiki and Yuji to be "a couple", then how come he never bragged about how great of a person she is after Yuji (and Nobara) learned about her? How come he only told Yuji to "save him" and not "save Tsumiki" when he wanted help to save Tsumiki?
I already seeing people make the "Fushiguro wants the bloodline continued" "jokes" and honestly, ew, gross.
Maybe, it's just me, but it's feels invasive at the thought of one sibling trying to shape another sibling's love life.
Hell, even still, Megumi pushing Yuji to date his sister? He would really try to get Yuji to do that without considering how Yuji feels? For real?
It's him wishing that his sister had someone who she can also form a bond with just as he had with Yuji and for that someone to be like Yuji.
I'm actually surprised to not see those same people making the "Megumi wants Yuji and Tsumiki to date" even make a remark on Yuji saying how lonely he would be without Megumi.
Is it because you can't interpret it any other way than how much Yuji cares about Megumi? Because, didn't not too long ago people were trying to say Yuji didn't care for him? Now that the last two chapters (265 - 266) disproved that AGAIN, I feel like these people are grasping at straws to come up with anything to not admit that there are mutual feelings between Yuji and Megumi.
Same fandom were some people were making incest jokes at Megumi's expense so now he's "beating the allegations" that were never there in the first place. Huh? What?

I saw a video these days about jujutsu and I saw something that I never realized that Megumi is not a good person because he is willing to do anything for his sister, which makes him selfish and that he only saves those who he "deems" to be a good person and who qualify as a good person for him. his morality is very black and white just like geto. There's a line from him that is very realistic, especially today in the manga, that sorcerers are not heroes, an example saturo gojo.
Tumblr media
Just Megumi dodging these harsh allegations.
You mean Megumi Fushiguro, son of Toji Fushiguro Satoru Gojo?? Character alignment wise, I oscillate between considering Megumi a True Neutral or more of a Lawful Neutral where "Lawful" is being applied generously.
Megumi is incredibly principled. The baseline for his evaluation of a person is distilled down to an observation that "I won't kill you so, in return, you shouldn't kill me." In a lookback at his days before Jujutsu High, we see that he is more than comfortable beating the brakes off of people who violate this basic tenet, even if they don't infringe upon it with him directly. Despite the rule as he lectures the delinquents, his application of it is very in line with Geto's ideology that the strong should protect the weak and keep the strong in check.
Geto considered all non-sorcerers to be weak against curses thus it was sorcerers' responsibilities to mind the herd. Megumi is a bit more discerning which is a reflection of his strength and perceived weakness compared to his peers. It also factors the flaws and inherent ability to be evil into his consideration. What set Geto astray was the fact that, as the strongest, he couldn't fathom the weak to be a threat. Based on Megumi's actions, those that deserve protection, like Tsumiki and Yuji, are those who are selfless and act on others' behalfs even to their own detriment. So, doing anything for Tsumiki, not even his blood relative, is a reflection of her purity of character. He's not one to cause harm to innocent people but does consider past harm as damnable offenses (like the truck driver who struck a kid in the juvenile detention center... who may or may not have been the driver who killed Rika Orimoto).
I think the big difference here is the fact that... Geto was a part of "The Strongest". Megumi is not. While he was great against non-powered up delinquents, people within jujutsu society remark that he's not good at hand to hand combat. Further, at this point in the anime, we now see that Megumi, at any indication that a fight was going poorly, either had a death wish or didn't see a way out that didn't involve summoning Mahoraga... even against Todo. EVEN AGAINST HARUTA. One could argue his morality is less to do with the idea of omnipotence as was the case with Geto and more to do with the fact that... he's not out here trying to die for someone who will later cause more harm to the world than he can cause good.
It's true, Megumi is aware that sorcerers are not heroes. In fact, he probably thinks those who are foolhardy and believing that they're helping people are especially laughable. Consider the fact that Megumi Fushiguro is a person who was bought and sold... twice... by sorcerers. He's got no choice in the matter as to the path he's on but he's got a tempered sense of reality that is informed by the fact that sorcerers die all the time, students and adults alike. He's just trying to make it out alive and with as much autonomy as he can and that informs an illusion of choice as to who is worth potentially dying for.
While his ideals definitely seem like they could lead him down a similar path to Geto, I think his motivation informed by a sense of self-preservation that he's willing to forego on principle differs greatly from Geto's perception that no harm would ever come to him at all. Geto experienced a foundational upset that altered his brain chemistry but Megumi is aware of his own weakness all the while and will still choose to fight. Please also remember the whole reason he even agreed to go with Gojo in the first place was to make sure Tsumiki wouldn't have a shitty life. He blindly chose a life fraught with peril so she wouldn't suffer at the hands of the Zenin. He, a child, essentially agreed to indentured servitude to protect her because, alone, he could not fend for her.
RE: Gojo as a hero... I am not so foolish as to say he is, but I am not uninformed to say he isn't either. He is simply flawed. Both in essence as a character and in the execution of his ideals. But consider the fact that, as The Strongest:
Gojo doesn't have to bend to the will of the elders that he disagrees with, he could simply kill them.
Gojo doesn't have to take missions just as Yuki Tsukumo refuses, he could let others continue to die in vain.
Gojo doesn't have to stick his neck out for Megumi, Yuta or Yuji, what matter are they to him when he has godlike strength?
None of the above would make him a villain to simply.. not participate in the rigamarole of jujutsu society because, with his strength, it's not like anyone could force him to. Doing the above also doesn't make him a hero; however, knowing that he could just go off and do whatever but he chooses the path of great resistance to cultivate abilities in others so as to better prepare them to be sorcerers and, as much as he can, protect them from the burden of their responsibilities. He's earnestly trying to improve facets of jujutsu society that he doesn't necessarily have to suffer because it's the right thing to do and it benefits kids who come up after him. In comparison to what he could be doing, he's trying to make a difference so the world doesn't lose another person like Geto to the reality of what it means to be a sorcerer.
In a broader sense, Gojo also meets the literal requirements of a hero as a literary device as he is a legendary figure seemingly born of divine descent and endowed with great strength and ability. This is just offset by him being canonically grating to like... everyone around him but Geto and just, generally, a silly, goofy lil guy 🤪✨
