UPDATE ON K-MAG AFTER SURGERY
Following last week’s hand surgery, Kevin Magnussen has been advised not to take part in the Rolex 24 at Daytona with MDK Motorsports. The Danish F1 driver will be replaced by Jason Hart.
After last week’s hand surgery, where Kevin Magnussen had a small cyst removed, the Danish F1 driver has decided not to take part in the 2023 Rolex 24 at Daytona. Kevin Magnussen was set to race a Porsche 911 GT3 R with MDK Motorsports joining Mark Kvamme, Trenton Estep and his father, Jan Magnussen.
– I’ve been advised by the doctors not to drive the race next week. The surgery went well, but I need to rest as much as possible to be fit for fight before we begin preparing for the F1 season. It’s a shame. I’ve been looking forward to that fantastic race and to get a new chance to drive with my father and MDK Motorsports. I’m wishing the team a great weekend at Daytona, says Kevin Magnussen.
– We’re glad that Kevin’s surgery went successful, and we all wish him a speedy recovery. As we have already stated, our drivers’ and team members’ health are always our number one priority. We’re also happy to announce that Kevin will be replaced at Daytona by our Porsche Carrera Cup driver Jason Hart. Jason and I raced together at Le Mans last year and I was very impressed with his long-time experience, talent and dedication to his craft. This is going to be another exciting challenge for MDK Motorsports, says team owner and driver Mark Kvamme.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona will be green flagged on January 28.

kevin was only 0.9 second away from p6 but that’s the end of the gulf 12 hours race! af corse - mdk motorsports finished p7 overall and p5 in the pro class. they started from p15, so i actually think this was a pretty good going for them. they were helped by some retirements, but that’s the nature of these endurance races. kevin averaged the time of the fastest drivers, the car in front of him actually pitted later than him, so it had newer tyres and yet he still slowly ate away at the gap between them. especially in the last 5 laps where he was 1.5 to 2 seconds quicker each lap. jan was actually 1 to 2 seconds slower than kev per lap and mark was probably around 4-5 seconds slower than kevin per lap, so he was by far the quickest out of all of them and this is the first time he has driven a gt3 car.
the trio is also doing daytona 24 hours and a part of me really hopes that mark will withdraw from the team - or at least change from pro to pro am if possible. not even a formula 1 driver can make up for a slow driver. i don’t think he will because pretty sure the only reason he owns a racing team is to race himself, but they are never going to win with him in the team. it is so clear the he is just holding them back.
oh, and also it has rained in abu dhabi this weekend. it also rained during the race and there was nothing on the radars? it was so crazy! i hope it happens during the last f1 race of the season next year, it might make the abu dhabi race exciting for once 😏

Its such a special thing Kevin Magnussen really excited to race with father Jan in Gulf 12 Hours
Although the F1 winter break is well underway, Haas driver Kevin Magnussen will be back behind the wheel of a racing car this weekend as he takes on the Gulf 12 Hours endurance event with father Jan. Kevin and Jan are set to share a MDK Motorsports-run Ferrari 488 GT3 in the December 9-11 encounter, which takes place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi – the same venue as last month’s F1 season finale. Jan raced in F1 during the 1990s, representing McLaren and Stewart and scoring a point with the latter, before going on to forge a successful sports car career, claiming four 24 Hours of Le Mans class victories and a class win at the 24 Hours of Daytona. READ MORE: ‘We’re seeing the rewards’ – Brawn hails positive impact of F1’s 2022 rule changes Kevin has also dabbled in sports car racing, previously testing for the Porsche World Endurance Championship (WEC) effort, contesting the US-based IMSA SportsCar Championship and signing to race with Peugeot in the WEC before his shock F1 comeback with Haas in 2022. Jan Magnussen made 24 Grand Prix starts – 23 of which were with the Stewart team Having raced together at the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans – where they finished 29th overall and 17th in the LMP2 class with an Oreca 07-Gibson – the Magnussens will hit the track again in the Middle East, with Kevin relishing the opportunity. “We’re going to get a few laps in the car before going to Abu Dhabi with it. But, of course, it’s something that I’m really excited about,” said 30-year-old Kevin, 19 years younger than father Jan. “Racing with my dad is always something that I enjoy a lot. It’s such a special thing that we’re still both active racing drivers at the same time. He’s not that old, so I feel like I have to grab the opportunity, as much as I can, while he’s still in good shape and fast. READ MORE: From Magnussen’s mega comeback to the pursuit of Piastri – 8 crazy storylines from the 2022 season “It’s the first time that we’re going to drive in a GT car together and I think he’s going to be pretty hard to beat in that one, but we’ll see!” Kevin and Jan Magnussen will share the cockpit again after a previous outing together at Le Mans Kevin is not the only son of an ex-F1 driver on the current grid, with reigning two-time champion Max Verstappen following in the footsteps of father Jos, who competed for the likes of Benetton, Tyrrell and Minardi from the mid-1990s to mid-2000s. Given that Jos also tried his hand at GT racing after F1, Max was asked about the prospect of joining the Magnussens as a father-son racing duo in the future. “I want to, but he doesn’t want to at the moment, so I need to convince him! He’s fully into rallying. I hope, of course, in the coming years, we can do that,” said Max. REVEALED: The move you voted as the best overtake of the 2022 F1 season To hear more about Jan Magnussen’s life before, during and after F1, listen to his recent appearance on the Beyond The Grid podcast. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com
