56 years ago today the first hot wheels cars were introduced and became the obsession that I unfortunately spend most of my paycheck on.

May 18th 1968, Mattel introduced the sweet sixteen (the first releases). Hot Wheels Cars were popular because of its Guitar String Axels and and Bright Colors. They were originally only supposed to produce 50,000, it ended up being a half million with 85 percent going to Kmart Retailers throughout the US. Since then, Hot Wheels has produced 20,000 different Castings in 150,000 different Variations and has a total production of over 6 Billion Cars sold in 200 countries
