Loosely inspired by derinthescarletpescatarian’s post on who is a war criminal in fiction, but I just realized that among other violations of rights, the yeerks I have committed one of the few violations of the third amendment of the U.S. Constitution:
“No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.”
And depending on how you interpret it, the Animorphs accidentally violated this one as well, and it would be hilarious if it got brought up in court and everybody was just baffled by the charge.
Okay, so let's see:
Jake houses Tobias in a home that technically belongs to Jake's parents for a few months (#1 - #3), specifically pulling a few slats off the roof and setting up a nest in the attic without their permission.
Marco only has David illegally living in Peter's apartment for like two nights (#20) but it is once again canon that he does not have Peter's permission and once again clearly established that this an act specifically intended to further the war effort. (Would he need their landlord's permission, if they're renting?)
Cassie lets Ax, Erek, and eventually Tobias live in her parents' barn for a week or two while Ax and Tobias are recovering from Yamphut (#29).
I don't think any of the sleepovers count, nor does David breaking and entering at first the hotel and then Rachel's house.
So: if I was the Animorphs' lawyer (presumably Naomi), I would go with the defense that what happened with the yeerks doesn't technically count as being a war. Two sovereign powers have to declare war for it to "count" according to the U.S. constitution. For example, the Korean War isn't officially a war because the U.S. said so, and no Uncle Sam don't want to hear anything about it being fucking convenient to pretend we never went to war there. Given that the Yeerk Empire isn't a sovereign Earth power, and likely wouldn't be bothered to "declare war" on its prospective livestock, the "Human-Yeerk Conflict" wouldn't count as being a war. No war, no soldiers. No soldiers, no violations of the Third Amendment.
It's a slippery slope to make that argument, since all kinds of actions illegal during peacetime are protected during war — the most obvious being murder — but I still think it'd be worth it. No government is likely to charge the Animorphs with actual crimes (witness the outrage when Visser Three's lawyer points out Jake is a mass murderer in #54) so it seems reasonably sound. Not only that, but there's no law against killing yeerks at the time when the kids do it, so it'd be tricky to charge them with anything that was definitely a crime at the time when the war happened. Even killing human hosts could arguably fall under self-defense, because it always happens in circumstances when one of the kids or their allies are under immediate threat of being killed.
Alternately, Naomi could argue that the war was a war but Tobias can't be a soldier because he's too young. The U.S. requires that you be at least 18 to count as a soldier, and the Third Amendment only applies to soldiers. Sure, there are precedents for informal militias including children (both the American Civil War and the American Revolution had underage fighters) but no one wants to open up the possibility of child soldiers being legally recognized.

bruh I was in Sam’s Club and I was just casually looking at books and I found an Animorphs graphic novel
ANIMORPHS GRAPHIC NOVEL
I DIDN’T KNOW THOSE WERE A THING
it apparently came out some time this year and YEAH it was an entire graphic novel of The Invasion, the entire first book, and it had a preview for The Visitor which is the second one
y’all
you better believe I snatched that thing up and bought it. I hope they make graphic novels for every single book. At the very least the 54 main series ones, though I would seriously love seeing ones for The Andalite Chronicles and The Hork-Bajir Chronicles too
man it was so cool seeing the first book drawn out like that. The way the artist drew Elfangor... ugh all of my love
and Visser Three too I guess. the bastard >.>

Hii! Could I request gender bent grizzam? They're friends and they like each other but are too shy to admit it. One summer night they're stargazing and girl!Grizz starts asking girl!Sam how do you sing night sky related stuff. Could you add the dialogue from the scene where Grizz asks how to sign "kiss me" and the talk they have afterwards? This fandom is a better place because of you and your fics, dude
Thanks so much!! Here you go:
Gender bent! Grizzam One Shot
“More than friends?”
(Gender bent Grizz on left, Sam on right)
Samantha Eliot, often referred to as ‘Sam’ by her close friends and family, made her way up the stairs as quickly as she could after dinner to retrieve her phone. Family dinners meant no phones allowed, and she knew she probably had a few missed texts from her best friend. Her best friend being Georgia Visser, who Sam called ‘Grizz’ ever since they were in middle school. Once she got to her bedroom and retrieved her phone from her nightstand, she did, in fact, have three missed texts from Grizz.
The most recent one was what caught her attention: ‘Hey, can I come over? Practice sucked and the stars look nice tonight. -GrizzV
Sam was more than excited, trying not to sound too eager when replying: ‘Yeah, come on over. Meet me in the back.’
Sam had admitted to herself a long time ago that she had a huge crush on Grizz. She had ever since Grizz had found out she was deaf and tried to learn sign language for her. Which, she had accidentally picked up a British sign language book and Sam couldn’t tell what she was saying. Ever since then, Sam was whipped. But, she kept it a secret. Not that she was a lesbian, everyone knew that now. But the fact that she was head over heals for her best friend. She was 99% certain Grizz was straight. Grizz had had plenty of boyfriends in the past, not to mention a fair share of hookups that she was never shy to tell Sam about, much to Sam’s dismay. Plus, their friendship was so important to Sam. Aside from her childhood best friend, Becca, Sam didn’t have any other friends. And Grizz meant the world to her. So, she was determined not to fuck it up by admitting her feelings. No matter how much it hurt her to do so.
After changing into some sweat pants and a sweater (it was fall in New England so it was quite chilly at night) Sam snuck out to the back yard and waited for Grizz to arrive. Looking up at the night sky, Grizz had been right, the stars were great tonight. Dozens of fireflies lit up the trees in Sam’s back yard, and the stars seemed to sparkle like diamonds above her. The cool falltime air was chilly, but nice. It felt so good against Sam’s skin.
Sam nearly jumped out of her own skin when she felt a pair of all too familiar hands grip her shoulders, causing her to jump and turn around, smacking Grizz across her shoulders. “I hate it when you do that! Fuck you!” She said through shaky laughter.
Grizz was very obviously laughing. Oh, how much Sam wishes she could hear Grizz’s laugh. “I know you do, but I couldn’t resist! You were in your own little world.” Grizz smiled one of her breathtaking smiles, her nose scrunching up. God she was so cute. Even when she was all sweaty from lacrosse practice. “Shall we?” She asked, gesturing to the grass.
Stargazing was a norm for the pair, so Sam didn’t need to guess what she meant. Settling down in the grass and sitting with her legs crossed, Sam watched as Grizz lowered herself to the ground as well. Grizz was quite a bit taller than Sam, not to mention ten times more graceful due to her athleticism. It was impossible not to watch her.
The pair sat there for some time, just gazing up at the stars and basking in the cool air. Sam didn’t need Grizz to explain why she was here. She already knew. Grizz Hayes lacrosse a lot due to the lack of brain cells by her teammates. Grizz was smart, very smart, and was easily frustrated by people who don’t use their brains. So, they sat in silence.
The stars were so bright, hundreds of constellations were visible.
“Hey, Sam? Do you know what constellation that is?” Grizz asked after awhile, pointing up at the sky.
Sam squinted her eyes. “No, what is it?”
“Beatlejuice. How do you sign that again?”
Sam finger spelled it for her. “Since when are you trying to sign again? Don’t you remember what happened last time?” Sam teased.
Grizz rolled her eyes. “Oh shut up. I just thought, since I only know a few, I’d make it easier on you.” Sam raised an eyebrow.
“I can read lips.”
Grizz shrugged. “I know. I wanted to be able to talk to you, you know, in your language.”
Sam blushed. “Oh...” was all she was able to say. She looked up at the sky again, wondering if that was a sign or not. Probably not. But still, she held on to the hope that it was.
“What’s the sign for Star again?” Grizz asked.
Sam showed her.
“Can you teach me one more phrase in sign language ?” Sam nodded. “How do you say kiss me?”
Sam went red, what did that mean? Could Grizz be.... no. No. That couldn’t be it. But then, she noticed how Grizz’s eyes were trained on her lips and she decided to take a chance. After all , what’s life without a little bit of risk?
Leaning in closer to Grizz and reading her expressions, Sam noticed Grizz leaning in too. So, she cupped Grizz’s face gently, taking a deep breath, and slowly closed the gap between them, connecting their lips.
Sam felt elated. Like her whole body had suddenly burst into heavenly flames that only Grizz could ignite. Her heart was pounding. She felt Grizz kiss her back and she felt like she might pass out then and there.
Grizz was the first to pull away, giggling softly. “That was uhm- that was nice.” She said, blushing.
Sam blushed in return, waving her fingers through her ginger locks nervously. “Yeah... it was. Why did you.. I mean- have you always wanted to do that?”
Grizz nodded. “Of course I have. I just didn’t know how to say it before. I didn’t just fuck this up did I?”
Sam shook her head. “No no, Of course not. I wanted to too... so, did you ever notice me before now? In that way I mean.”
Grizz laughed, flipping her hair back. “Of course I did. That’s why I stayed away from the subject.”
“Why?!” Sam said, giggling.
“I dunno. I was caught up in being straight.” Grizz said. “Can I kiss you again?”
“Please.”

How the Yeerks Got a Sam’s Club Membership
Oh, God. It was time to go down to the Yeerk pool again. They had really beefed up security lately, and I hadn’t been able to sneak out of a cage in weeks. A Taxxon stood constant guard at the door of each cage, and those are not easy fellows to sneak past.
But I had been ‘upgraded’ with a universal translator, so I was able to understand and communicate with any alien now. Occasionally Hork-Bajir were mixed in the cages with humans, and I found it nice to chat with them. I found out that they’re actually herbivores, and that the pool complex housed an enormous greenhouse in order to supply them with the necessary supply of tree bark that made up the majority of their diet. The amount of money, energy, and man hours that this must consume were unfathomable.
But today I found no one interesting to talk to inside the cage, and instead resorted to eavesdropping on the Taxxon who was guarding us. He was complaining to another Taxxon about the water quality in their barracks.
“Every time I go in there the whole place smells like hessstle meat. Drives my host crazy,” the first Taxxon was saying. I should clarify that the universal translator doesn’t always translate every word. It usually leaves out the more colorful language.
“It’s that ssshestisss filter. Never gets changed,” his companion replied.
“It’s not like it’s hard to do,” the first one complained. “It’s just that you have to get a human host to pick it up the replacement from the store. Everyone gets a human and suddenly they’re too good to run errands for the lowly Taxxon controllers.”
“I could help,” I piped up. I don’t know why I say these things. They just come out of my mouth faster than I can stop them. Both Taxxons turned to me.
“Oh yeah? What can you do, trapped in there?” they asked, a hungry look in their eyes.
“I’m a human. I can go to a store.” I shrugged. “I’ve seen those filters. You can get them right up the road at the hardware store. I can be there and back in 30 minutes.”
They made a kind of a chittering noise that must have been laughter, their mandibles clinking together.
“Right! We let you out of here, and you never come back. And then Visser Three skewers us on a stick and we’re Wednesday’s dinner.”
“I’d come back. I’ve been a controller for months, I know they’d just hunt me down and bring me back. Or kill me. I just want to get out of here for a while, by myself. I get some peace and quiet, and you get a clean water filter. It’s win-win.” I thought I had them convinced. They eyed each other for a second, considering it.
“No, no good,” one of them finally said. “I know who you are, and Eshwell 656 would have our heads if they knew we let you out.”
“Yeah, but I don’t know who you are. She’ll know that some two Taxxons let me out, but I can’t identify you. Meanwhile, you’ve got nice crisp water in the barracks.”
The Taxxons exchanged another look, made that chittering sound again, and one of them scuttled off. Oh, well. It was worth a try. I slouched back against the bars of the cage, picking at a loose thread on my jeans.
A few minutes later, a Taxxon rushed over, a credit card clutched in its claw. It pushed the card through the bars at me, and the guard Taxxon unlocked the cage.
“You’d better be back before you’re missed,” it hissed at me.
“I’m on it!” I said, scrambling up from the floor. “I’ll meet you in the transportation dock in 40 minutes.”
I returned at the appointed time, and scanned the transportation dock for a Taxxon who looked familiar. The area was loaded with them, unfortunately, as most of them were either pilots or part of the maintenance crew. As I searched the area for the third time, a Taxxon sidled up beside me, nearly making me jump out of my skin.
“This way,” it hissed, rushing ahead of me. I hoisted the two hefty boxes and the plastic bag I was carrying and hurried after it.
The Taxxon led me to its barracks, an area of the complex I hadn’t been to before. It was deeper underground, the floor sloping downward beneath my feet with each step. Here, there was hardly any attempt to make it look like a place that humans might inhabit. It was more like a giant hive, Taxxons slithering in and out of various holes dug into the walls. A small stream exited one of these holes, and wove its way along the path. The stream met a shiny plastic cube, which I assumed was the filtering system, and exited the other side into a shallow pool. Taxxons lined the stream and surrounded this pool, drinking and washing their foreclaws and faces.
The smell coming off the water was putrid, and I could see chunks of meat floating down the stream. The water coming out of the filter was gray and shiny with grease.
“Alright, I got you two filters. One to use now, and one for later,” I explained. “As soon as you put the second one in, you need to start pestering someone to get you a new one. You should always have a spare on hand so that things don’t get this bad.”
I took the cover off of the filter housing and began to remove the old one. The stench of it was so intense that I had to pull my shirt up over my nose to keep myself from gagging.
“I also got you something else while I was out,” I said, reaching into the plastic bag. I pulled out two thick, plastic-wrapped disks, tossing them in the Taxxons’ direction. They sniffed them tentatively, and then gobbled them down so quickly it was as though they had disappeared.
“You’re supposed to unwrap them first, but okay.” I clicked the new filter in place and started the machine up again. In a few minutes, clear water was running out the other side.
“I’d better get back,” I said, standing up. “I think it’s about my time.”
One of the Taxxons ushered me back to the pool area, dropping me off directly at the infestation pier. I waited patiently for my turn. As I expected, Eshwell 656 berated me heavily for my insubordination. But it was worth it to get out away from the pool for a little while and stretch my legs.
<I could have you strung up for this. You can’t just leave the Yeerk pool whenever you feel like it! You are my prisoner!>
<Hey, you should be bragging about this. ‘Oh, your host cries and tries to escape when they’re free? Mine does general maintenance’. That’s what you should be saying.>
After that she was too angry to say anything.
A few weeks later I had just been thrust into a cage when a Taxxon approached me.
“I heard you can, uh, run errands?” it asked.
“I’ve been known to.” I replied. It shoved a tattered plastic credit card through the bars at me.
“Do you think you could get some more of those… Moon Pies?”

What you think about Sam Visser? I liked him when he just started doing make ups for Bella h and LRD but now most of his works for me just a meh. Vogue just announced that he is USA makeup ambassador of Dior and tbh idk, if he wasn’t Bella fave MUA, he probably never would have this career height. He is just 18 year old and barely worked on industry💀
I personally don’t mind it and some of Sam’s editorial work has been really cool, but I agree that he’s overrated. Tons of MUA out there is better at the style of makeup he is now known for and also excels at other styles as well.
I agree that Bella and Alexa Demie really helped boost his profile! With that being said, Dior making him their MUA ambassador would have been a smart move were they not a high-end/luxury brand. Dior is known for very minimal, natural aestethic so having an MUA who’s open to going ham with colour and textures would open up the market a bit for them. It’s just an odd choice because like you said, he’s 18 with very little experience and Dior isn’t known for excessive glam.
