Fleissige Hühner – Thankful Thursday – Busy Chickens

Die heutige Hühnereierbeute präsentiere ich am Küchentisch. Hachz, ich kann wieder leben hier. Das Müesli ist am richtigen Ort versorgt, die Teller sind dort, wo sie immer gewesen sind. Der Kühlschrank steht an der gewohnten Stelle. Es herrscht schon fast die perfekte Ordnung. Morgen werde ich sie hoffentlich erstellen können, wenn sich mein Gehilfe soweit erholt hat, dass er die Beine wieder…

Right ahead a documentary is playing on Yannick's TV, the only source of light in the room despite the dozen of times he's off-handedly mentioned at Felicity how bad that would be for your eyes. Water cascades in unbothered ripples down stones smooth and flattened even at their edges enough to insinuate this has been happening for centuries, luckily nt disrupted by human hands. And along that stone, right over the edge and onto its flatter back, comes crawling… a fish. Or several, actually. By the looks of it, likely the size of a finger.

"They're climbing up the waterfall," Yannick's voice helpfully supplies over the German speaker describing something similar in the documentary itself - and around a mouthful of something. Likely a spoonful from that frankly outrageously large bowl of Müesli in his lap you can occasionally see at the very edge of the recording when he moves it away from the head of a cat trying to stick itself into it. "A kind of goby. They have suckers on their stomachs and drag themselves all the way up a rocky wall."

A few moments of silence, interrupted by Kaspar Eichel and the playfully dramatic music in the documentary relaying the scene further. They're moving… surprisingly quick. Then a snort from behind the camera. "You on your way to the lab."

HER EYES ARE ALREADY BAD TO BEGIN WITH. It comes with going hours on end poring over notes in a dimly light laboratory. This, Felicity's already told him multiple times and still he insists on reminding her anyways even if she points out he does the same exact thing. Staring a screen to type words can't be great for his eyes either.

Felicity supposes that's just what comes with being friends with Yanni- do as I say not as I do. Doesn't mean she has to listen to him though. Besides that's just what Yannick Hänni does anyways- always looking out for his friends, but never for himself. It's gotta be a bad habit, she can't help but think, repression at both its finest and its worst.

A bit like the stones sanded down by the waterfall's cascade. Even the stablest, most level-headed individuals get worn down over time don't they? Even they have to have their breaking points. It worries her often sometimes- not the rock, Yanni. Sure he's more or less managed to pick himself up after the skating incident- why else would he be a well-published tabloids' writer then- but well.

Purpose seems far from his mind at the moment.

Maybe it's better to compare him to the fish swimming up the waterfall. If that is even what the narrator is saying; Felicity's only going by what Yanni is translating for her. German- one of these days, she's going to pick up that language if only to finally be able to actually decipher her friend- it takes a Swiss to know one, right?

"Yeah?" She grabs Benedikt XIII- or is that Gregor VII, she still can't tell the difference- and sets him on the cushion between them. Why Yanni's eating breakfast during twilight hours is beyond her though. She waves one of the many cat toys strewn around in front of his face. "Shouldn't be possible for them to swim against that current; they're like hummingbirds. Defying logic of science and all that, huh?"

She shake her head though. "Not for a few more hours. My boss won't be in until eleven- you have me for the next...what, five, six hours?" Which isn't usually the case, but her boyfriend's out of the country visiting his best friend. There isn't much of a reason to go back to her apartment, not when lab's already close by; by then, she'd just have to trade one dark room for another dark room. She gives a mischievous smile in the darkness.

"Why- you want to come with? Maybe you could make a documentary in this style about...how about the organisms living in our fridge?"

Jaaaa doch, ist ja schon gut… bin ja gleich fertig! Alle, die heute nach mir ins Bad wollen, benötigen Geduld. Klar, einerseits geniesse ich die grosse Dusche. Aber andererseits muss ich erstmal rausfinden, wie man diese überhaupt bedient:

Oder soll das jemand verstehen? Anstatt die Dinge zu verbessern oder einfach zu reparieren, werden hier jede Menge Anleitungen geschrieben. Oder noch besser: Die Klobürste ist, igitt, sichtbar schmutzig. Anstatt sie zu reinigen oder den Bürstenkopf zu wechseln, haben sie jetzt einfach eine neue daneben gestellt. Die Mentalität geht mir echt nicht in den Kopf. However, erstmal was essen! Im Bistro “Soupa Breakfast & Brunch” gönne ich mir ein wunderbares “Oat Meal”. 

Weder Fisch noch Vogel, weder Porridge noch Müesli. Geschmacklich ähnlich wie Milchreis, nur eben aus Haferflocken und warm. Was mir übrigens gestern schon aufgefallen ist: Die Portionen hier sind stets riesig! Kein Vergleich zur Schweiz, wo ich auswärts doch meistens zu kurz komme. Keinesfalls zu kurz kommt heute mein Vitamin D Haushalt, denn wir haben erneutes Kaiserwetter! Ja okay, dieses Wortspiel hätte in Wien besser gepasst. Den Anfang macht heute die Burgruine “Devin”, rund 10 Kilometer östlich von Bratislava gelegen.

Bereits nach Ankunft mit dem Bus ist uns klar: Das wird super. Ostern ist vorbei, viele arbeiten wieder. Ich bin gesund, die Sonne scheint und vor mir liegt die beeindruckende Ruine einer rund 1'300 Jahre alten Burg. Was will man mehr? 

Tatsächlich ist es nicht mal die Burg selbst, die mich so ins Staunen versetzt. Denn viel ist davon nach dem Angriff durch Napoleons Truppen ja eh nicht übrig geblieben...

Es ist die Lage! Errichtet genau dort, wo der Fluss March in die Donau mündet. Ein Ort, den man malen müsste, würde es ihn nicht wirklich geben. Ich bin hin und weg.

Die Flussmündung ist nicht nur Standort dieser Burg, sondern auch die Heimat unzähliger Tier- und Pflanzenarten. Kein Wunder, von hier oben sieht das aus wie der Amazonas! 

Und einmal mehr kann ich es nicht lassen. Ich verlasse die Burg und folge dem Donauufer. Wir stossen durchs Gebüsch in die Tiefen des Amazonas vor. Oder so. Immer weiter… und weiter… und weiter.

Sorry, aber es ist auch echt das Paradies hier. Ich vergesse Zeit und Raum, ausser mir verirren sich nur ein paar Fischer hier her. Im weiteren mache ich mit einer Schlange Bekanntschaft, die plötzlich vor mir auftaucht. Dass es an mir nicht viel zu knabbern gibt, merkt sie jedoch schnell und zieht gemütlich weiter. Mindestens genauso hungrig wie die Schlange bin ich unterdessen selbst, weshalb wir mit dem Bus ins Zentrum zurück fahren.

Im Restaurant “Koliba Kamzik” bekommt man slowakische Spezialitäten, soweit die Zunge reicht. Ich entscheide mich für Pirohy mit Schafskäsefüllung, serviert auf Pilzragout. Typisch slovakisch und ein absoluter Gaumenschmaus!

Dazu gibt es eine Birnen-Limonade mit frischer Minze, nicht zuletzt bei dem Wetter ein wahres Träumchen.

Apropos Träumchen: Das erste Mal seit Reisebeginn habe ich heute so richtig das Bedürfnis nach einer Siesta, weshalb ich nach dem Mittagessen ins Hostel zurückkehre.

Fraises mascarpone et ses variantes

Ingrédients pour 6 à 8 verrines • 300 g de fraises • 15 cl de coulis de fruits rouges • 250 g de mascarpone • 50 g de fromage blanc • 70 g de sucre glace Préparation Dans un saladier, mettre le mascarpone avec le fromage blanc et sucre glace et fouetter. Mélanger les fraises coupées en morceaux avec le coulis et les répartir entre les verres. Napper de mascarpone puis les mettre au froid. Au moment de servir, ajouter du Müesli.

Variantes Vous pouvez aussi mettre quelques fraises tagada dans le mélange et/ou des pailles d’or à la framboise en morceaux.
