Oh yes, I totally agree!

1. Yes, we saw that Kiriwo's pupils change shape when he's particularly excited, but I think Beem was excited here too. On the other hand, it may even be that not all RtO demons get that pupil shape, so yeah, we'll see! (The pupil shape change was implied by Balam's research, but the research itself may be incomplete for all we know)

2. Yeah I think Nishi wanted to blur the lines with this arc, you know? It has darker and creepier vibes than the previous ones, and once in a while we encounter... More demonic demons, like Beem

My interpretation is that RtO demons in particular have given in to their deepest and evil desires, and fully accepted to hurt others to fulfill them, in exchange for pleasure deriving from it, and don't want to stop

...so I can see how Beem could be close to this definition, tbh. Maybe their inaction was what avoided the full blown RtO? Say, instead of actually painting all the time and killing people in the meantime they decided to chill, lmao

Also are they returned to origins? They kinda act like it, with their seemingly absolute disregard for the lives of others, but idk if they actively enjoy causing harm with their art(like someone returned to origins would) or just dont give af as long as they can draw and the art being cursed is just smth that happens unintentionally whenever they do art

Okay, I was loving this art-focused arc already, as someone who after... several years (hi I'm old)... decided to learn illustration for good. But unholy shit I wasn't expecting an actual storytelling lesson from Nishi-sensei!!! I'm specifically referring to these two pages:

..........do you see what Nishi did????? See, I always found the characters in M!IK to be exceptionally alive, as if they had independent lives outside the pages we can read. Basically all named characters are consistent and three-dimentional, even if they appeared for a couple of chapters at most. And there are LOTS of them, I tried to compile a spreadsheet for personal use and we are well beyond 100 at this point (I'm not done yet). This is most likely Nishi's writing method. It fits: "when it comes to terror designing characters, what's important is the foundation. When, where, from whom, and from what was that terror were that character's motivations born? Without that, art doesn't live". See all the crumbs of information Nishi left along the chapters, in text or drawings, or in the Q&As. M!IK's characters are alive, like the Bowing Palome. Clearly this is not new when it comes to storytelling in general, and to manga specifically. As an example, there's a whole chapter dedicated to character design in Hirohiko Araki's Manga in Theory and Practice, The Craft of Creating Manga (most recommended read btw), that goes over the data to collect even before drawing a character. I imagine that's among a mangaka's best practices. But that's the point, Nishi actually follows the rules of the Golden Way*, and created a work which is nearly perfect from any point of view: the four fundamentals (characters, story, setting, and themes), and even rhythm, art, comedy... I'm in awe. I know I sound like a smitten fan, and I am at this point, but seriously, this manga is qualitatively great, and it's a pity it's so underrated. *The set of rules/tips Araki compiled, which if followed would lead to a manga being successful, according to him. I guess there are other sources as well out there, like illustration schools? But this what I can tell you, as an outsider :D

LOL if you didn’t notice by my annoying amount of reposts I’m back to posting hehe. I have big boy posts to share with y’all BUT since I didn’t post last week due to the strike here is my reaction to Beem:

BEEM IS NONBINARY!! ANOTHER NONBINARY ICON HAS BEEN BORNT BY NISHI!!! They are SO COOL!! Like hello??? They are precious, they mean everything to me 😭. The way they are so into art and horror makes me so happy to see them I’m the story. AND more Zeze!! When I saw him I was like “oh fuck no, it’s going to get weird,” hahaha. But it makes sense, his brother (if i remember correctly) is an author so it only makes sense for him to come into this arch. I do love him a lot, he’s very much like Ronove where I was like, god he’s so annoying, I do not like him. And? His dumbass grew on me. I’m excited to see his brand of a chaos in action again. (Also pleaseee I must see Zeze and Ronove talk with each other at some point in this story. They either are best friends or hate each other hahaha)
